Wow... We were hungry and my daughter pointed to this place. I was unsure of what it would be like... so happy she saw it! Loved the meal... food was amazing and the service was perfect! I had the chicken florentina (spelling) with veg and potatoes... Amazing! Seriously... If you want Italian and are in Plymouth, UK this is the place! This time of year the large open windows onto the street were a treat.

Decided to eat here after walking past a couple of times. Although very busy they found us a table. The food was excellent with a good selection of drinks. The staff were friendly and accommodating and very knowledgable about the menu. The lamb shank was amazing and the pizza was great as well. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Decided to go for a walk down the Barbican to enjoy the waterfront and Christmas lights. Decided to stop at the Barbican Pasta Bar with my wife. We both really enjoyed our meals. Good food and good wine. My wife has not stopped talking about how good her lasagna was.

This has been a regular dinner location on our visits to Plymouth, and after a couple of years of playing it safe I took the plunge and got the korma pasta. Sounds wacky, but it's an absolute delight. Huge portions and friendly staff make this a must visit!

Very busy little pasta bar. I think it seemed family run. The service was very efficient although not the freindlyist. Food was disappointingly average.

Staff are so friendly - the lady that took my payment at the end on the meal was so nice! Food is very home-style Italian. Bruschetta was lovely though! Good price point too

Absolutely wonderful evening as always at the Barbican Pasta Bar. Amazing food, service and atmosphere. Been coming to this long established family run restaurant for many years, as a couple, as a group and as a family. Tonight dined with the family including 3 children under 5yrs. We were, as always, made to feel very special and most welcome. The children's needs were understood implicitly.. their food was portioned well and served very quickly, while the adults relaxed with excellent chilled wines and the best starters ever, including garlic mushrooms and King prawns. The main dishes of pasta were fabulous, especially the beef bistecca. Succulent beef strips in perfectly cooked pasta. Look no further than this restaurant for a warm welcome and wonderful food. I noticed that they have won several national awards for being top of their game.

Friday afternoon I rang up got a last minute table for two at 5pm. Rocked up and greeted on entry we sat at a small table and ordered the carbonara and vegetable stilton pasta, both dishes were perfect, portions are great, we didn't need a side. Two mains,a bottle of wine and a pint came to £45.

I visited the pasta bar with a large group recently. Great verity on the menu. Food was extremely fast considering we had 17 starters and mains. Very reasonably priced! A starter, main and a beer cost me £25. All of the staff were incredibly friendly

We had planned to go elsewhere but as we walked past, we looked at the menu and decided to visit. It was busy downstairs but a lot quieter upstairs. Our order was taken quickly and our drinks were then delivered to our table. The food when it arrived looked great, it tasted great as well, only one minor issue the calamari was a little over cooked it was chewy. The portion size was generous, we didn't miss having a starter or pudding. Would I go back yes is the answer.

Great food, service and atmosphere. Went early-ish on a Saturday night (5:45-6) and had no problem getting a table for two. Place was full by 6:30. Prawn cocktail, pasta with chicken and mushrooms were both delicious. Wife enjoyed her chicken pesto pasta. We were too full for dessert! Would definitely return if we are in Plymouth!

This place was suggested to us by a friend and it was everything they had said. It was reasonably priced, the food tasted wonderful and the service was spot on. We live nearly 4 hours away and we're just visiting, but my daughter has begged for me to take her back as soon as can.

I have been dining at this restaurant for many years. Food and service has always been of the highest standard. Went on Saturday with my sister for a family catchup. Being a couple of piggies we had the mixed starter for two. We both followed with the cannelloni. My sister (eyes bigger than her belly) couldn't finish all of hers. Boss man came over to clear our dishes and his first concern was something wrong with the food? We explained just something wrong with us. Lovely buzzing atmosphere, whatever time of year.

The starters were nice and good value for the area with their lunch deal. Their pasta is only so-so, I wouldn't say that the flavours are very rich or authentic. It was okay to try but I probably wouldn't return again

Visited the barbican pasta bar with the family whilst on holiday in Plymouth and what can I say it did not disappoint the food was freshly cooked and it tasted really nice. Great service by a waitress named Linda always a smile on her face. Will be definitely calling there again next time I visit.

Visiting friends at the weekend & dropped in here for lunch. We had the most amazing food. Our Lasagnes we're amazing, melting in our mouths with the most delicious sauce, the best we've ever tasted. The same could be said of my hubby's Spaghetti Bolognese & garlic bread. Lovely, friendly staff. I would definitely visit again on my next trip.

Ordered traditional homemade meatballs with pasta. Made it all gluten free for me (along with the gluten free process in the kitchen), tasted absolutely gorgeous. But amount of meatballs was only 3. Should've 5 or 6 at least. When a dish is literally titled 'traditional homemade meatballs' (full title of meal right there) there should be 5 or 6, not 3. Still though, great service, wonderful taste, great allergen-catering.

Booked in last minute to celebrate a friend getting a new job. The atmosphere here was perfect for such a celebration. We both really loved the fusion with other cuisines. Never before have I seen a korma pasta, or cajun, on an Italian menu. I settled with the cajun beef which was spot on. The combo platter was great, but our only gripe is there was an over emphasis on the ribs. Was very reasonable price wise too. Far cheaper than I'm used to paying in other cities.

Edit: Been here two more times in the last 10 Months, food has been fantastic both times as always, freshly made, Quality and Quantity, I would be a number 1 customer if they offered takeaway! Come here for special occasions, will always recommend to friends and family. Sadly on my last visit had to wait almost an hour for food but this was made up to us with Incredible food, very apologetic staff and a free round of drinks. Came here with the family for some pasta and pizza and was not dissapointed. The king prawn special pasta was exceptional, while the pizza was really good for a place specializing in pasta. The restaurant made an exception to change the seafood marinara to a prawn only option, which we were really thankful for, and it didn't disappoint. The only slightly underwhelming dish was the vegetarian canaloni, which lacked a bit of sauce. Thankfully, the other two pastas had sauce to spare.

Booked for an early evening meal and glad we did as the venue was packed on arrival. Menu choices were plentiful with the usual Italian fare, however not much seemed to be available for children whose tastes aren't 'italian' orientated. Reasonably priced with friendly staff but due to the packed venue, service was a little 'Italian' bordering on Cornish; Rome wasn't built in a day. Food was well presented and certainly ample for our requirements - well done to the kitchen team. Yes, I'd visit this popular Barbican venue again.

Best vegetarian cannelloni I have ever had, the menu totally undersold it. Were really accomodating for children too and made them small portions of what they asked for from the menu. Staff were really friendly and although they were really busy and we'd not booked they made room for us. Children really enjoyed their food as did parents. I feel guilty didn't have cash to leave a tip and they aren't cheeky and didn't add on an automatic service charge.

Well, what can I say.... this is by far the best Italian restaurant I've been to. I avoid the 'chain' restaurants these days due to food quality being so poor. The staff were absolutely fantastic and very friendly. Each course we had was just out of this world and I will definitely be returning when I come back and visit the area again.

Have now ordered for home delivery a few times since lockdown and hadn't realised I'd not reviewed until now! The food is just gorgeous from here. It arrives as hot as it would on your plate in the restaurant and is perfection. Tonight was a special one as its my mums 70th and we didn't want to have a typical take away but also didn't want to venture in to an actual restaurant thanks to covid and being a little extra careful. I sent a message earlier this week to ask whether it would be possible for us to order and collect as a Saturday night is not normally a night when you are able to have take away. I was so grateful to be able to place an order and get her a lovely meal for her birthday. We ordered pasta dishes which were all very very tasty and my dad and brother ordered the sirloin steak. We took precautions knowing it would continue to cook en route and order rare for both of them. It arrived as a medium/ rare and was essentially how they'd have ordered in the restaurant. However as a coeliac there was no info on the menu about what dishes were gluten free or could be made gluten free, and our waitress did not know the information without checking with the kitchen. The gluten free pasta was in a delicious sauce.. but the pasta itself was under cooked and not very pleasant. I suggest they try a different brand.

I stayed down for the weekend at the start of August with my partner to explore Cornwall and the coasts down that part of the country. And we spotted this little gem of a restaurant during our first night stay. We went back every night from Friday to Tuesday, and experiencing the first day of help out to eat out. They are super friendly owners and it's such a nice environment that it was the best bit of Plymouth for us! Me and the misses joke often about driving back down to Plymouth to get more pasta from these guys. It's a 3-4hour trip from London and I think one day we'd be crazy enough to do it for their food! The night I went here with family, the place was busy on both floors and fully booked. But after a quick change around, the manager got me the table I wanted up stairs. Very rare being so busy, to have someone that happy to fit more people in...... A real credit I feel to a place! We had 2 courses... I had a goats cheese salad on breads and a nicely spiced seafood linguine pasta dish. The bottle of wine I wanted was sold out, but the waiter had a replacement he was confident I would enjoy....... This place is nothing special to look at but is in a lovely location just a stones throw from the fishing boats on the harbour. The food was really nice and they also sell tribute real ale which is a favourite of mine. The service was prompt and everybody was really polite so if you combine that with reasonable prices I would recommend this place.

My 7 year old had a desire for lasagne at lunch time as we walked around the Barbican and we came across the Pasta Bar. The menu looked reasonable so in the 4 of us ventured. The plates on the tables around us looked appealing so it started promising. The lady who served us was efficient, pleasant and talkative...big tick there. The first dish to arrive was the lasagne in a kids portion which was perfect. Very tasty and the 7 year old was happy...good sign. The cheese burger for the five year old looked big and given that he had never finished more than half a burger before, to see three quarters get eaten was another good sign. I tasted the other quarter and it seema a little dry and charred for my liking but he liked it so...happy days...and that is where the accolades cease. I had the pork medallions and bruschetta. The bruschetta was tasty but a bit under seasoned and seemed to have been prepared some time before we received it. The pork medallions however...were unpleasant to say the least. Chewy and rubbery as if it had been microwaved...the aroma seemed to match the first conclusion. The creamy sauce was tastless and every thing was under seasoned. Devoid of any real taste...where is the wine and garlic in the sauce? My partner had the charred chicken caeser salad. I think they delivered the charcoal and forgot to bring the chicken. Dry and over cooked. When the server takes back plates of half finished food...does this not ring alarm bells? My main regret was not ordering the pasta as what was being delivered to other tables look very good. All in all not a complete disaster as my kids were satisfied. I would try again, but stick the pasta next time.

My parents are regular customers at the restaurant and really rate it. I've been a few times and would usually rate this place at least a 4 star. However, visited Sunday lunch time and ordered from the lunch menu 2 course for about £11. Ordered the nachos for starters which were disappointing; quality was poor, nachos were circular, similar to the ones you get out of the old El Paso kits, which wasn't a good sign. Which were led on a wilted peice of lettuce? No layering of the cheese, three jalapeños and 1 black olive chucked on top. With a tiny pot of salsa on the side and another pot of what seemed like thick cream? Stated sour cream but it definitely wasn't sour cream. Just lacked effort, would not buy again. Mains I had the bbq chicken, now I thought this was a save bet as I've had the BBQ chicken wings before and that was great. However, what came was a grilled chicken breast with some BBQ sauce, chips and a few bits of lettuce. Very disappointing. Although I am willing to accept the fact that it was the lunch menu and quality was less due to this. I would recommend having a better description of the dishes as I expected more than just a chicken breast with sauce. Which I could have prepared a lot better myself to be frank. Though the sticky toffee pudding was great, and the service was also very efficient. I'd come again but probably not of the lunch menu.
