Well as you may or may not know I love italian food, so I asked my self, why on earth haven't we tried Positano. We'll we have and we weren't disappointed one bit. Yes the decor is in the 80 but that's fantastic, its Classic. Now to the food. We used to frequent a great Italian restaurant in Cambridge back in the 90s, I so far we haven't found anything close, till now. The starter (Antipasto Al Italiano) massive and was great. I had chosen from the menu but then I was offered a special, Orecchiette & sausage with broccoli. One of my favourite dishes. A good choice to test this place out. And my wife had veal, a dish that's not on a UK menu very often but a popular one in Italy. A great bottle of red and to finish of we had Grappa 💥. So after that very long winded chat all I can say I think I've found a fantastic Italian restaurant again. Great food, great wine , great staff, great venue, loved it. Yes we will return. Grazie!

First time at Positanos tonight after hearing only amazing reviews and I’m so glad to say we weren’t disappointed. From the moment we entered the restaurant we were greeted warmly and friendly by all staff and the service throughout the night was outstanding. The house wine was absolutely incredible (and only £10.80!!!!) which was a huge hit. We were amazed by the menu and how much choice there was which added to the excitement of trying to pick what to have. Overall, the food was insatiable and the portion sizes were very generous. The carbonara was probably the best I’ve ever tasted and the pizza was huge. The complimentary bruschetta was an amazing touch and honestly delicious. We were blown away by the food and service and the value for the money was the icing on the cake. Can’t believe we haven’t been before and cannot wait to go back again - already booked in again for a weeks time! Positano’s deserves all of the recognition it receives and I’d recommend anyone to go.

Reasonably priced menu. The service is very slow. The food are well presented. The calamari starter is good and not very oily; the salmon pasta is tasty but the pizza dinamite is too salty and does not taste like Italian pizza. .

Great food and service. Went on weekday lunch time and while quiet as expected, there were still people there and an atmosphere. Authentic Italian feel and excellent food. I had prawn in garlic and wine starter, then the seafood risotto and both were gorgeous. My companion had calamari and one of the veggie pasta dishes that was also well enjoyed. Hospitality done right!! Truly fantastic dining experience! Beautiful authentic Italian food served by some of the best wait staff I’ve encountered, each team member was passionate about what they were serving, knowledgeable, and most importantly, lovely. The team really make this place, they made so much time to chat with each table, and laugh with each other, this made for a fantastic and warm atmosphere. The food is absolutely to die for! But arrive hungry as the portion sizes are HUGE! We didn’t have room for dessert, but couldn’t resist getting a serving of the tiramisu to go - which was absolutely divine the following day! We will absolutely be back!

Visited tonight for only the second time ever. Really should frequent this place more often. From the second you walk in you’re welcomed & treated like family. The staff are all charismatic, funny and genuinely care about you having a great night and wonderful food. We intended on only having a main because the portions are so generous, however upon hearing the starters we decided to get two. Both were incredible. The wine was delicious. The mains were incredible & tailored to specific wishes without fuss. We had no room for dessert but we had to make room! They looked incredibly delicious! And they were definitely worth making room for! Mario was our main server, he was funny and attentive and genuinely felt like a friend by the time we left! Out of all the places to go out and eat in Plymouth this is THE ONE to choose. Nothing is too much trouble for these wonderful people, even boxed up what we couldn’t finish for tomorrow. The food, service and atmosphere are all the best you could ask for.

Positano is without doubt the best Italian restaurant in Plymouth and a family favourite for special occasions. Tonight was no exception - I had a starter of cape santa alla crema (scallops in a creamy white wine sauce) followed by pollo piccante (spicy chicken breast accompanied by sautéed vegetables) and it was faultless! The portion sizes are very generous and my mum had to ask for a box to take away the remainder of the huge lasagna she had ordered! My dad had saltimbocca alla romana and it was cooked to perfection. In short, if you are looking for a proper Italian restaurant in Plymouth, you can't find better than Positano. The staff are all very friendly and full of love for the food and service they offer and I couldn't recommend a visit highly enough!

This restaurant never disappoints. When my partner and I walk in Mario greets us like family and can't do enough to please us. One time my partner and I couldn't decide between the same two dishes so we planned on ordering one each and sharing but Mario saw that we each had a plate with both dishes on! Another time we went on a date there and my partner bought me flowers beforehand and Mario put them in a vase on the table for us. Last visit, I couldn't decide between two deserts and Mario served me a half portion of each. Every time I go there the dishes are superb and the attention to detail and hospitality is absolutely the best on town. Brilliant place to take your significant other

You have to eat here, it’s a local legend. Come for the tender veal, perfectly cooked pasta and lovely pizza. The waiters are hilarious, and remember you! It looks a little dated I suppose but to me that’s part of its charm. If it’s not broke don’t fix it. Equally good for a relaxed meal with a friend or an intimate romantic meal if you don’t mind being teased. That’s amore!

We dined in Positano while on our way back to London from Cornwall, crossing Plymouth. One of our local friends had suggested this Italian place for lunch. Absolutely loved the place and the staff (the guy is an Italian and he is fun!). We ordered a pizza, a lasagna, a res and a white wine. The food was wonderful, the only reason i deduct a star is the cheese in the food was overpowering and it marred the underlying flavour of the sauces. Which i found to be superb when i separated some of the cheese and tasted just the stuffing. Also, there are a lot of multilevel parking compounds around, which we didn't know so we parked far away and then walked a mile. Overall a nice place especially if you are missing Italy, they do a decent job.

We celebrated a 30th birthday at Positano at the beginning of August. It is our "go to" place for special occasions and they never disappoint. The staff are friendly, welcoming and always go the extra mile to ensure you have a good experience. On this occasion I went "off menu" as I really enjoy the veal with mozzarella and parma ham in mushroom sauce. There was a starter of smoked tuna carpaccio that my husband said was delicious. I had Italian antipasti, a good selection of tasty treats. Our son usually has the minestrone soup to start and he rates it very highly. Some of our party had fish as a main course, this is cooked to perfection with a light dressing. The pollo piccante was also delicious. We always try to save room for a dessert, the tiramisu is excellent, as are the trifles and cheesecakes. At dinner, bruschetta is complimentary, the recipe is a secret, and the meal is rounded off with a shot of Limoncello. We left with a couple of desserts and a cake that we had preordered for a family party at home. Needless to say they were fantastic.

Lovely food here, however we arrived at 6pm and were unnecessarily rushed. We booked a table 6-8pm yet we were asked to order drinks and food within the first 5 minutes of entering. We didn’t even have a chance to read the menu properly, we were quite upset and felt very uncomfortable. I believe you shouldn’t speak to your customers how we were spoken to. We left by 7pm and felt really awkward.

This place is a nice place to go, but beware if you want to be full you will be! The pizzas on the menu are huge. Have been a couple of times and the food is very nice, once though I did notice that the food was a little salty. The decor of the restaurant is some what dated but you can over look those details with the food and the friendly staff. Have only ever been for lunch on business trips so cant comment on evening meals.

We have been visiting for years and there is a reason it is constantly one of the city's highest scoring restaurants. The food is always excellent, my personal favourite being Calzone or one of the steaks, my girlfriend swears by the seafood! Always leave room for a dessert as they are excellent too! In two decades of visiting we have never had a bad dish or even heard anyone else complain either! The best food this side of the Amalfi coast!
