Reviews of Thirsty Bear Pub & Pizza Restaurant
L. W. F.
One of the best pizza places i've been. The owner and staff are very friendly and great company. Not only the food menu but also the drinks are well put together.
S. F.
I really love the pizzas from Thirsty Bear, especially the vegetarian one with artichokes. The dough is very well made and the pizza has a generous amount of olive oil. 😋😋😋

I visited today with my God Son and his mother for an early dinner. They had both been before and enthused about it and I'm now a convert to this super pizza restaurant. We all had slices of pepperoni pizza and I decided to be brave and go for two slices. WOW, the pizza base was amazing and it had a good sized crust. To say the toping was generous would be an understatement! I struggled to finish my two slices but wasn't going to leave anything as it was too delicious to waste. The waiting staff were fantastic, attentive but not fussy and the chef was a delight. For the quality of the pizzas, I considered the prices charged are very reasonable. These guys are Pizza Pros and I'm looking forward to visiting them again. They make the offerings of Dominoes and Pizza Hut look mediocre at best!

Impressed with the selection & tastes of the Pizza's here. A little pricey but acceptable taking into account the bubbly, friendly/helpful staff & a warm interior setting.
Really loved the large pizza size. It was LARGE, and despite my friend and I being starving when we entered the place, we only managed to eat 2 slices each before asking for a doggy bag and having to loosen our clothes a bit.
A. L.
Great restaurant with the opportunity to eat enormous quantities of pizza at a great price. Beer selection wasn't bad but they were out of stock of our first choices. Venue was Covid friendly with checking in being mandatory. Puddings were OK. Service was OK. Worth visiting and we would go back again.

I received table service for a pint on the first floor terrace. Nice to be out in the open air but not much of a view due to the high rise flats around. Outdoor heating a bonus although I didn't need it. Friendly staff and generally a cool place to socialize or reflect. Would recommend.
t. c.
Table service performed by a very efficient bar tender, you get well looked after.
The pizza here is really good and they are absolutely huge, but you can also buy by the slice.
Good choice of drinks, plus sport being shown on overhead panels.
P. W.
Such a good place to grab a bite to eat! The pizza is amazing, and way more food than you'd expect for your money! Went there on the off chance a couple of months ago, and just had to come back. Friendly staff, great food and a really nice atmosphere in this American styled bar. Although I have only been for lunch, I can imagine evenings there would be a great experience, something I'll have to make the time for!

I’ve had pizza here a few times it really could be exceptional but they put parmesan on everything. It’s so unnecessary on some of the pizzas, loading pizzas with delicious toppings then covering it in overpowering parmesan doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve been luckily enough to try a wide variety of pizzas due to ordering on TooGooToGo and this is by far my biggest complaint. The big slices are cool and unique as well as the style of pizza, I consider myself to have a pretty large appetite and 2 slices seems to be a sweet spot. Never eaten in but seems like it has nice diner vibe with tvs located conveniently and serving a few craft beers although no bevertown. Would be interested to try some of the premium pizzas as long as they don’t have parmesan polluting them. Also bring an option to put honey on your pepperoni

Went to this pub to pick up take out. Nice atmosphere, but a little small for social distance. The staff was very very nice. Really went out of their way to make the experience nice. Sadly, none of them were wearing their masks correctly. They were everywhere, but their face. Made me anxious and could not get away from the pub soon enough. Still, this is a personal feeling. Patreons looked comfortable. Besides, I suppose this point will be moot anyway after "freedom day".
The pizza was very tasty. I recommend the Too Good To Go magic bags. Much more affordable.
C. F.
Thee best pizza I have ever had - by a mile!!, it had everything going for it, lovely base with extremely tasty sause & toping. If you like a pizza then you Must!! give this place a go, your taste buds will thank you
R. M.
I can not give this place enough praise. The pizza is the best in Reading; fact.
The staff are brilliant, they always make sure that you're looked after and have given genuine recommendations for food based on their clear knowledge and love for the food there too!
It's also odd to me that somewhere I originally had seen as just a restaurant is now one of my favorite jaunts for a drink. Great venue just for a beer, slightly out of town so quieter than the centre and just as much atmosphere.
5/5 Restaurant and 5/5 Bar.
If you go in, make a point of asking for recommendations and if you meet Henry, the GM, he'll go out of his way to make your experience special!
C. B.
Absolutely fantastic! Great choice of pizzas and surprisingly good beer. friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere make for an enjoyable visit.
F. E. A.
The best pizza in Reading. Really tasty and succulent, filled with toppings and massive.
After they got our first order wrong, we ordered again and again, and we are really impressed.
S. K.
Absolutely wonderful pizza, best in town. Staff is helpful and friendly. Wide range of selection of sides and mains as well. Food delivery is quick and enjoyed the discounts on collection. Won't recommend attempting the largest 20 inch pizza alone, never ends well, share with friends instead.
J. P.
This place was a real find. I thought the pizza sizes were a bit random but actually 2 slices (plus a side) is a decent size for a meal, I actually couldn't finish mine due to the generous proportions of the jalapeno poppers. Had the Brooklyn pizza which was amazing; lots of ricotta and parmesan and perfectly cooked dough.
I. S.
I've only ever had takeaway from this place, but for that it's absolutely amazing. I LOVE the pizzas, and they're super generous with their portion sizes. Have ordered here at least 10 times and will continue to do so 🙌🏼
D. L.
I had one slice of the hells kitchen pizza and one slice of the (I think it was called Kansas) pizza with regular fries. The slices were huge and covered in toppings...very happy with the pizza and it was definitely plenty of food. My only suggestion would be an option for a variation of stuffed crust, but that's more a reflection of me being greedy. I would definitely return if I find myself in reading again, happy my friend made the recommendation.
C. L.
Thirsty Bear offers a great twist on the standard pizzeria experience. Depending on your appetite, pizza is offered up in single/double slice or full pie options, the portions are huge and the flavours amazing. Well worth a visit.
N. S.
Great pizzas, absolutely massive! Quite unique as you don't find these flavours elsewhere. The wings were really good too. The place was crowded but the service was very good. The lady who served us very friendly and always ensured that we were looked after. Will definitely return.
T. c.
Amazing place for everyone's taste. We found excellent pizzas, delicious drinks and kind stuff and impressive interior. Hope to see you soon!
c. o.
Best pizza in the world. Not that are they massive but they taste out of this world. Its the only place you need to go if you are after some tasty pizza. Great starters too.
J. S.
Arancini were very good, pizza not really, more like an American pizza rather than Italian unfortunately. Service was good.
H. B.
Hosted a surprise private party here for my partners 30th Birthday that was just amazing. Henry and the team went above and beyond to help plan and make it amazing night with personalised cocktail lists, amazing food and generally great service (even with 50 adults ordering loads of cocktails!). The area upstairs is just great for any function so definitely don't hesitate to book your next event here!
S. K.
Good Reading Place, the pizza's are good, American style but with a variety of topping. , the service is very good, the service staff are very friendly and attentive...and i go back continuously for the atmosphere and ambience. The pizza chef's is a legend...……...
C. R.
Monday night all you can eat selection of pizzas. £10. Great selection of beers/ales and ipas. Great service, chef and of course banging pizza
J. M.
A shambles start & a mixed experience!
Negatives: We weren't served for 45 minutes! Although we were a larger table of 6, it then took 1hr for our drinks to arrive. We had sat for nearly 2 hours without a single drink at our table. We even said that we didn't mind if they came at different times but we were honestly ready to leave at this point. Pizza had arrived and had all been eaten at this point (which were delicious!). The bar seemed very under staffed, with one member of staff exclaiming that it wasn't a 'cocktail bar' but a place to eat. This was despite us ordering food and also been given a menu with hundreds of alcoholic choices!
Positives: the pizzas were delicious and cocktails were yummy and great value for money too. There is so much choice for pizza and drinks (possible too much for the staff to remember). The staff catered for us in the end by offering us free shots which we were very grateful for and a discount on our order which was very kind of them!
I would recommend the pizzas but order them online for collection/delivery to save disappointment of very slow service.
K. K.
Giant pizzas that tasted amazing and had some of the most unique topping combinations I've seen in a while. Prices were reasonable and the service was fantastic, even for a group of 9 on a Saturday. Will definitely return!
B. M.
Good ambience restaurant ! if your looking for the pub feel then I would definitely recommend this place and they serve great restaurant food too. From pizzas to pasta dishes including ravioli, Italian/American starters . The largest pizza they serve is 22inc.
Good choice of cocktails served and other alcohol/hot drinks / wine / milkshakes and desserts served. Their pizzas are freshly made when you order of the menu.
I would suggest you book your table to avoid disappointment during the weekends/ evenings .
G. M.
We had the unlimited pizza on a Monday and loved it, as usual each slice is huge and the quality is incredible, best pizza in Reading!
N. D.
Delicious pizzas & really friendly staff. Also, lovely outside area. Thank you.
G. B.
If you want an incredible New York Style pizza... This is the place... My favourite is the meat packing district... So good... My far the best pizza in Reading!!!
E. R.
Decent for food if you’re hungry after a few beers, not a place to go out to for a meal! New York style pizza, which means massive pizza slices rather than individual pies. My partner and I went for the Monday all-you-can-eat £10 deal, which really isn’t worthwhile as two slices are enough for a meal (and is cheaper). The dough is good (crisp and flavourful) but the slices had a greasy, re-heated quality to them. The panko fried chicken topping (pictured) tasted like nuggets fried in old oil, and there was generally a much bigger emphasis on large amounts of cheese over flavourful sauces. Not bad, but not great either. Decent beer selection though, and good service.
A. H.
This pub is great for watching football or any other sports events and enjoying a cold pint of beer and the biggest slice of great pizza. Definitely worth a visit.
N. C.
Great pizza and dog friendly. The picture shows the 'Tribeca' and the 'Meatpacking' pizzas, both are delicious. This place also has lots of offers on depending on the day; worth checking out...
M. A.
Nice place to visit. On Monday's there is unlimited pizza for £10 which is well worth it. Slices are large and there is a nice variety.
D. W.
First introduced to The Thirsty Bear, via Too Good To Go, I have ordered many pizzas since, to take away and have dined inside a few times over the last couple of years.
Without a doubt it is the BEST PIZZA IN READING!!!
The pub has a really nice vibe and a great selection of beers, highly recommend the Thirsty Bear.
N. H.
The Best Pizza in Reading! The portion sizes are generous, the quality of the food is on another level and the service is Fantastic!
s. g.
If you love beer and pizza (who doesn't??) Large portions and nice chilled vibes, this is a slice of Ney York. Great pizza selection, good meal deals aswel. Veggies paradise, can't comment on any vegan options. Slices are authentic to the Big Apple. Nice place
S. g.
I loved their humongous size pizza slice — I tried the Tribeca & the Lower east side .. I loved them, they are so light, tasty, and most importantly; they are light..
0. 9. (.
Wonderful Pizza, for a nice filling meal I'd suggest 2 slices for a struggle go for 3!
B. G.
Really good pizza! Really good service. All you can eat, well good luck getting past 3 slices!
T. L.
Service a bit slow but pizza was lovely and drinks really good!
P. B.
Good pizza
Table booking system ‘online’ is slow - luckily I had booked another place due to my suspicions after getting a ‘you’re not booked until we say you’re booked’ email, so when they advised 18-19 hours later that they were full it didn’t matter. With the world as it is right now and places getting antsy about no-shows, you should have a modern booking facility.
But yeah, good pizza
G. P.
Great pizza with super friendly staff and good prices. There is a lovely roof terrace to enjoy the summer too. If you're into bourbon this is your place!
S. G.
I've eaten these pizzas at their sister restaurant in London and I have to say they are the best pizzas I've ever tasted and the slices are huge.
M. M.
Thirsty bear is a different pub, very well managed and the pizza is the best you can find in Reading.
Good place to watch sports, but if you're looking to have a chat sometimes the music can be too loud.
P. W.
Friendly, helpful staff. Beeeeaaauuutiful food. Clean and safe. Lovely manager 👌
M. C.
Great place to chill out with friends, with great pizza and chips and good beers would highly recommend. Will more than likely be my new regular place to chill with friends every week.
J. K.
I haven't been to the restaurant but just had a takeaway and oh man, hands down this is the best pizza in Reading. It came quick and was piping hot. Ordered the 'Central park' and 'Tribeca' and both were delicious. Proper pizza, like from NY and Italy. Will definitely try to visit the premises to sit down and enjoy the food fresh from the kitchen.
D. R.
Meal was delicious, staff very attentive, very nice evening had by all.
D. E.
The PIZZA here is AMAZING, the service inside was poor with rude staff, and very very slow service for cocktails 30 mins to order, 60 mins to make cocktails from ordering. Pizza was made within 10 mins of ordering, So I'd highly recommend take away pizza from here.
J. W.
Excellent pizza! Best in Reading
Drinks a little pricey and can get quite busy when the football is on
C. L.
Huuuge portions, great beer and service. Would recommend.
A. “. T.
The staff is always friendly, the beer is good and the pizza as well!
A. W.
I had really high hopes for this place but left a bit disappointed...
We ordered a fairly wide selection of the food on offer so can provide a range of views.
From the appetizers and starters/sides we had:
Arancini, calzoni frito, mozzarella sticks, wet fries (basically cheesy chips) and curly fries.
The arancini is clearly homemade and whilst the first one was cold, a second was brought with no hesitation. It was a single large arancini rather than the small "suppli" two bite sized arancini I am used to. It was a bit stodgy and I think it's large size had something to do with this.
The calzoni was good and had lots of fresh mushroom filling.
The mozzarella sticks and both variety of fries were ok but appeared to be frozen food cooled to order, as available at mistake supermarkets, nothing like the arancini or calzoni.
For mains we had 1x 16" pizza, one pasta Bolognese and one salad.
The salad was basically half an iceberg lettuce with a lot of croutons, a tiny amount of chorizo and some balsamic glaze. No other lettuce leaf , rocket, lollo Rosso, or other variety. No cheeses or any kind of other vegetables. A fairly pitiful offering.
The pasta dish was decent but took some time to arrive, well after everything else. That said it was wolfed down and had a decent amount of meat in the sauce.
The pizza was good. I see from the other reviews that this place has a reputation based on good pizza and I can understand that. I have had better but not loads better and not very often. We went for a half and half and I had the "hells kitchen" on my half. It was not without being overpowering so I could still taste the other topping flavours. Base was good but a little thicker than I am used to so it was quite filling.
There is a decent selection if drinks, nice beers on draught or by the bottle and a range of wines available.
The service was good on a busy night (noting the delay on the pasta dish, but also the "no fuss" fix on our arancini).
I think that this place would be advised to strip out some of the ready made food (chips and mozzarella sticks) and the salads, or make them more than they are today. Best stick with the tasty pasta and very good pizzas. Safest bet to a good meal
D. B.
Fabulous experience both eating and drinking! Perfectly polite staff. Nothing too much of a problem even when they are extremely busy. The food...well ..the pizza's are amazing, tasty & filling ..especially great for a group of you. The sides and lots of other dishes are pretty tasty too.
J. A. G.
Delicious! It's my favourite place in town, the best pizzas I've ever had. They are massive and are delicious. Highly recommended 😋
J.
The best Pizza place in Reading without a doubt! Amazing quality of ingredients which make all the difference, lovely staff and decent drinks too :)
C. M.
As a native New Yorker, I struggled for years to find a decent pizza place within this area and I finally lucked out! This place makes legit NY style pizza which reminded me of my local pizza shop in NY. Aside from the amazing pizza, they also have delicious wings and chips. This is a must try, the staff is also very friendly and welcoming. A true home run!
B. B.
Massive pizzas value for money. One point, no vegan menu
D.
Very tasty pizzas, good cold beer, cozy place all-around.
D. W.
Haven't has a bad meal here yet. Highly recommend the wings best in Reading so far. You won't leave here feeling hungry.
S. S.
I came to the Thirsty Bear many years back and found the dough too chewey but this time it was excellent, no complaints at all.
An early lunch time visit in Christmas week so it was nice and quiet. Service was friendly and informative. The food was served in good time. There is a full bar with a large selection of drinks.
They seem to have some very generous offers in place of the drinking and pizza variety. There is also a few timed eating challenges, for the brave/daft/hungry.
S. “. A.
Amazing portion sizes, absolutely delicious pizza
K. B.
Went to the preview night last night and the Pizza is something else. Very friendly venue and customer service was spot on! Well worth a visit
L. H.
Beautiful food, be sure to get a side of buffalo wings! Nice to see the quality hasn't dropped in either food or service during the pandemic. Will be returning again soon hopefully!
T. C. G.
I cannot rate this pub enough. The pizzas are my favourite in town. Lots of delicious toppings to choose from and incredibly generous sizes. Good range of places to sit and sports to watch. I come here every time pizza and beverages are needed.
S. G.
Great deals, amazing 20" pizza's, a roof terrace and amazing staff 5* from me :D
L. M.
It's a great place for a drink with very nice staff, But the best part are the Pizzas! We had 2 slices of pizza each and apart from being very nice and tasty, they were massive! I think this place will become the place where I will be getting my Pizzas from. Great prices too.
J.
Lovely pizza that is huge! I went for the biggest size and it lasted me from Friday dinner to Sunday lunch! Would highly recommend for group meals. Also the drinks are good but hard to stay when spoons is next door offering drinks for half the price. Lastly the outdoor seating section is great.
W. H.
The waiter doesn’t bother you which is fantastic. The environment is also very nice.
J. H.
Amazing place, especially for pizza. The slices are huge so 2 slices are enough to fill me completely. They use proper ingredients too, not the cheap rubbish you usually get on pizzas & staff all seem to be friendly.
e. p.
Delicious pizza and a good range of beers. At lunch they do a deal - one slice and half a pint for £5, which I go for regularly. It also shows sport on the TV but it's not very loud or intrusive so it doesn't take over the environment.
E. C.
Excellent pizza establishment. I went on a Sunday lunchtime. Pizza was tasty and portion size was very generous. In addition the staff were super helpful and they were playing good tunes. Before I went in I saw there was sport on screens but happily they were on silent (I'm not a sports fan normally so was relieved). We ordered way too much food. Follow the guidelines about portion size on the menu!
P. L.
Awesome food and a great ambient !!! Staff is one of the best ever had the pleasure to be served by !!! Will comeback for sure !!
F. d. T.
Amazing Pizza at a decent price. Good selection of drinks. Super clean. Not a ton of seating overall, but can accommodate groups of different sizes. Staff is always super helpful and friendly.
P. G.
This is just around the corner from a lot of local reading businesses so is an ideal place to come for lunch.
They mainly do pizza with American style sides. The pizza is very high quality and service is generally quick enough to fit into a lunch hour.
Good range of American bourbons and a decent beer range. I've been told the roof garden is exceptional in the summer but have not experienced it for myself.
O. B.
Here is the tastiest pizza I've eaten in Reading. The staff is very nice here. There is a large selection of pizza and drinks. There is a big TV and lots of beer for football! Two slices of pizza is enough for me to not be hungry all day. And it’s not expensive. I'll be back here when I'm in Reading.
T. P.
Best pizza in reading! Good service, and is a decent drinks menu. Some strange items on the menu, but it all adds up to a really good experience. Is far enough away from town centre to be not as busy, and still able to enjoy yourself on a Friday night
H. W.
Amazing pizza at a good price. Also sells American classics like root beer and coke floats.
S. C.
I absolutely love the pizza here! Since leaving Reading, this is the place I always come back to when I visit.
D. L. n.
The large pizzas were enormous and served for about 3 meals for the two of us. Chicken wings were very good. The place was clean as were the toilets. Quite annoying that no beer or cider was available on tap and the drinks weren't cheap though. However dogs are allowed which is a nice touch - adds to the hipster feel of the place. Will likely go again for food.
J. 1.
Pizzas are delicious. Generally relaxed ambience (apart from most Friday & Saturday nights). Screens for sport. Good spirit selection. Reasonably priced. Nice staff.
J. B.
The pizzas are very inpressinve, huge, gooey and from what I'm told very tasty. The only downside is the lack of vegan options. I'm not asking for vegan pizza because I don't think there's any way quite yet to replicate the type of pizzas Thirsty Bear is famous for. They could have a main dish that's vegan though, something that's not just a garden salad because it is quite sad to sit and eat leaves when everyone else has stomach-stuffing pizza.
M. D.
Great pizza, believe them when they two slices is enough! Good beers and wine too. Football was on and quite loud but would deffo go back.
G. C.
Excellent Pizza and good starters. The bar staff were friendly and everything arrived quickly and as expected. It's great to see this venue refreshed and looking good, if not slightly try-hard-quirky.
I'm not entirely sure how this works as a bar, but the beer selection was a bit uninspiring with a odd mix of premiums and bog standard (fosters etc). With a good range of cocktails and bourbons it's aiming higher so that was slightly confusing. However, the food is excellent so they have clearly invested a lot of energy in getting that right.
I look forward to going back again soon.
G. W.
Fantastic little pub which is so much nicer than the colossal Wetherspoons next door. Great selection of beers, inviting interior, and friendly bar staff. The pizzas look absolutely incredible, and huge!
S. T.
AMAZING pizzas - and that's from someone who loves a great pizza. They're all named after pasta if New York. Three of us ordered a 20", half Meatpacking District, half Tribeca and there was so much with a really deep layer of topping that we had to take two of the eight slices home for the next day. Absolutely delicious. Other than the pizza, it's a really smart pub / bar. Sort of place you could go any time of day or night
M. S. Z.
When you order pizza and arancino do not except anything close to the Italian ones. Anyway they tell you in advance :it's American pizza. Not bad at all. Very fulfilling, a bit expensive. Nice environment. Good service provided by Ms Elvira.
S. I.
Absolutely love this place!
Pizza is amazing, drinks are great. Always have daily deals with some man v food challenges.
Staff are great and really friendly.
A. H.
Good atmosphere, nice beer. One 16" pizza shared between three was plenty: we had two slices left. Pizza was okay. Good music though. Would come back but probably just for drinks and maybe a single slice.
S. R.
Nice place in Reading for a drink and pizza, although the customer service is really poor.
Girl at the bar was more concerned on filling the fridges with drinks than welcoming us to the pub and taking our order. The building was freezing cold and when we asked to put the heating on but the waitress refused and said that this was on timer only... this was 6pm getting ready for the evening trade but no heating, fridges unstocked and general rubbish in front of the front of house pizza service area showed poor set up and lack of care. The poor young waitress tried her best but must of been new without the correct training as couldn't take an order without seeking advice, didn't know the menu and showed no confidence during service.
r.
Good beer, amazing pizza and reasonably priced!
C. R.
The food is excellent, the pizza is better than it is advertised and perfectly portioned for the price. The hospitality is wonderful and friendly at all times. One of the best food and drink establishments in Reading
S. R.
Meat lovers pizza is my favourite and coming here with friends and pups is great
Z. N.
Absolutely delicious pizzas. American style, so I suggest buy one slice, and go from there. Cocktails are devine, say what you're up for drinking, and the staff will make one up for you, and give 241 on selected cocktails.
M. A.
Just placed my order with Deliveroo! And food came fast and still hot! I enjoyed my Tribeca pizza slices, wings and salad and my girls loved the popcorn chicken!
Glad there on deliveroo now. Will def order again soon! :)
L. J.
Lovely pizza - salad was just a small tub of lettuce, shaved carrot and two baby tomatoes. Food pricey. Pizza was Excellent though
A. D.
Great pub and great atmosphere. Came to watch the football and plenty of room. Got a takeaway which arrived on time - food looks amazing based on what I'd seen turn up on other tables!!
Definitely coming back!!
S. G.
I do courier deliveries here no problems. I like to pick up from this location always friendly service. Most of time no wait or little.
P. S.
The Thirsty Bear is constantly on my mind. I love pizza, and they have some of the best pizza around! I always judge a restaurant on their Marguerita pizza. If you cannot make a cheese pizza, you do not belong.
They can make a cheese pizza, let me tell you! Their pizza is crispy, has an outstanding texture in the crust and you can get pizza by the slice. How can you go wrong??? I give this restaurant/pizza joint 9/10 marks, as no one is perfect.
S. P.
Nice pub, without side roof seating. Great pizza but need to do vegan cheese, like everyone else. Zizzi is a very short walk away.
A. K.
Pizza bar it is! Great pizzas in huuuuuge portions. They taste really good. Great value for money also. Cosy atmosphere and very friendly and helpful stuff. Conveniently located in the town centre. Definitely one if the places to visit in reading. Will visit again soon.
M. K.
Caring efficient staff. Great pizza. Lovely relaxed evening with some interesting cocktails. Chilled out evenings are a must to have at the Thirsty Bear.
j.
Though it is a 5* there is one warning, no matter how much one tries consuming a 20” pizza in one sitting, it is not worth trying as they are so filling, so rather order the 20” enjoy as much as you can then ask for the rest in a take away, as many might know left over pizza makes great hangover food!
K. H.
Amazing Pizza and great atmosphere 👌🏾👍🏾🍕

This place opened a month or so ago and we finally decided to try it. Verdict: not bad, but also nothing to rave about.
It's in a convenient location (finally a pizzeria closer to residential areas) and it's been lovely furnished (still has some of that freshly cut wood scent when you enter). There are two levels - ground and upper. On ground level you have some seating, bar and lots of TVs (people were indeed gathering there and watching a match). On the upper level there's a lot more tables, a bar (non-operating) and also an outdoor area (we didn't try that one since it was pouring down). We were lucky and had the whole floor to ourselves (peace, quiet and a meal).
We decided to start with some drinks and an appetiser - Cheesy Garlic dunkers. Drinks were great, the dunkers not so much. I was expecting thin pizza dough sticks with cheese and garlic on it (cause it's an appetiser, not a main course), but this was a very thick dough and a very thick layer of cheese on top with completely unnecessary layer of tomato sauce. Too bad. They really could check out some other pizza chains how they do their (garlic stick) appetisers.
Next we ordered, each our own (cause we were hungry) pizza. What a mistake! We really should have gone with the Hungry Chart (2 slices for hungry, 1 whole pizza for two people). Good god, both pizzas were enormous!!! I took mine home and we had it for dinner and breakfast the next day. Both were good (not too thick + just the right amount of toppings) and the only thing that bothered us was the paper they slide underneath the food - it gets soaked and you cut/eat it with your pizza (see picture). If you only have a slice it's great, but it you are cutting a whole pizza on a plate it's inconvenient.
Service was friendly and quite fast, so no complaints there. What we didn't like was the pick-a-table-and-then-go-order-downstairs arrangement. I understand it's easier and faster for the pizzeria (also requires less staff), but it's very unfortunate for the customer. I can only imagine how badly this can be when the place is packed and you need to run around in order to first find a table and then go through the crowd again to order downstairs. Definitely not an inviting part. I'd rather order online and get it delivered then.
Price/value was decent. We might try it again in a few months or so, to see if things have changed or stayed the same.

Tasty pizzaa, good beer. It's a fairly rustic pub style of restaurant
Be warned, those pizzas are pretty huge, ordering it by the slice is quite wise unless you have a significant appetite.

Great place too eat or socialise, the pizza tastes amazing, our waitress Leanne couldn't do enough to make sure we had a great experience. 10/10

Huge and delicious pizzas! 100% recommended!

I was invited by the owners to visit their sister restaurant in London and the pizza slice size are massive. I've never tasted these New York style pizzas before and for sure, I'll be returning very soon!

Pizzas are OK. But I think they cooked and then toppings placed on top and heated up.
Pizzas are best when the cheese melts on top of the toppings not under.
Cocktails were good.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is always delicious, best pizzas in Reading by far! Also great value for money with a fantastic selection of beers/cider/wine
M. C.
The best and most filling pizza in Reading. And the Mac n cheese bites are reason enough to visit! Some great beers but Drink prices are a little higher than most reading pubs.
C.
This is the best pizza anywhere! You even want to eat the crusts when you have finished! Great food, friendly staff and kids to drink! The best bar in reading

Delicious food, would definitely return! Was a bit of confusion with a drink I asked for, it was on the cocktail menu but was told they didn't know how to make it and they didn't offer it. overall was a good place to eat

5/5 FSA rating as of 23/07/2018. Much improved since it opened. Prices are very good for the portion sizes, one slice is enough for me with a few drinks.
S. B.
Nice pub, good drinks selection and really nice pizzas. Don't be put off by the pizza prices: they're big slices and the whole pizzas serve several people.
D. M.
The best pizza in the world

What a great place to socialise! Relaxed & friendly atmosphere, amazing pizza and really lovely, attentive staff! Had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, will be back very soon!

Best pizza in the UK, trust me. Service was very good too, with friendly and welcoming staff, clean and tidy environment, nice atmosphere and competitive prices.
J. R.
Awesome pub with good atmosphere, Indy music and EPIC PIZZA. Perfect place to spend an evening with friends or have a couple of slides of pizza. They also offer delivery.

Confused by what its meant to be. Sportsbar ? Restaurant ?. The pizza was pretty good although I saw that the pizza guy ran out of fig jam and then I had to ask for more fig jam. For an American inspiration, I expected sensational service. Well. There is no service. The customer has to seek this out. YOU ARE LOSING MONEY, because your staff don't promote or sell anything. My wife could have drunk another appetiser and I could have done with a coffee. NOBODY asked us how the food was. The exact opposite to this is a place called COCOON in Reading. They are hot on service and I feel welcome there. Of course a different cuisine, but common, why have staff talking their foreign language in an Amercian type place in England ! It therefore does not stand out. The pizza is pretty good but not worth sitting down for. I really hope you sort this out because it will be a shame to lose the 2nd place to make decent pizzas.

Looks great, pizzas looked good)(was not eating) let down by ridiculous beer prices! Over £5 a pint... For a new bar and pizza place on the outskirts of town a tad high for people to have a drink with their food...
B. L.
Had take away, first time I tried it. Was very tasty. Crust was a bit thick though
G. S.
Takeaway Pizza is amazing! Can’t recommend the quality and flavour enough! A real treat and big enough to feed a couple of families!
B. O.
If only you could rate 6 stars, the Pizzas here are insanely good, and massive. Don't go thinking you need more than 1 of the big pizzas between three really hungry guys.
S. K.
The portion sizes on the pizza were really good, but the drinks felt quite expensive and the pasta portion sizes were small for the prize. The two pasta options were also quite quirky options. The atmosphere was okay, as was the service but it wasn't amazing.
R. M.
One of the biggest pizzas I’ve ever seen. A bit pricey, but very good pizza and service! Recommended!
N. S.
Amazing pizza and food .. lovely beer garden
K. C.
Great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff
Went for work lunchtime and service was quick.
Don't worry, a slice of pizza is a large slice (the side order of wedges was lovely too).
T. M.
Loved the generous pizza good to be able to half and half it and good selection of pints
M. F.
Holy schmoly! This place is perfect in pretty much every sense! Seating is abundant with two floors as well as a perfect-for-Summer balcony, friendly and vibrant atmosphere, welcoming and energetic staff and pizza. To. Die. For. Destined to be a Reading great.

Food was great here amazing pizza but the service was poor. We went in at lunch having booked a table online but no table was reserved. Having found us a table we were not told we had to order at the bar. Also having been sat upstairs as it was busy the bar there was not open so had to go downstairs to order.
N. A.
Pizza was great, staff very friendly and service quick. Best pizza in Reading😎

A. R.
The american style pizza is amazing! Plus, the Brixton beer is great! I hope they keep having it!
N. B.
Great pizza. Friendly staff. Very well priced. Came with a few mates to watch football and service was excellent.
M. T. (.
They serve beer and pizza (and other stuff), show football and tolerate children until a reasonable hour. Crowded on Friday and Saturday but then everywhere is. Music can be loud. Recommended.
