Not the most authentic but great Italian in Southampton in a central Location. The mussels were one of the best I've ever had. Penne was good too although the sauce was slightly sour in my opinion. The price is good. Would definitely recommend.

I was a bit reluctant to try La Tavernetta at first as there were other Italian restaurants around I'd rather try first. However I'm quite pleased my mates and I decided to have lunch here. From the start, staff were very friendly and welcoming. They allowed us in despite turning up 10 minutes earlier than what we originally reserved. Food was amazing, and cooked perfectly. Everything, from starters to mains to pudding was simply made fresh. Prices were a bit high but the food was well worth the money spent. My Tagliatelle with beef and mushroom in creamy sauce left me feeling full for hours. The pizza was big enough that my mate struggled to finish it. Also, their desserts were impeccable. None was too sweet or sugary. The apple crumble was warm and homey and the tira misu was delicate and fluffy. I tried the pistachio gelato and it was flavourful, creamy and had great likeness to the one I had in Florence. Overall, this restaurant deserves my utmost recommendation.

I have been living in Southampton for a couple of years now and always come back here. I haven’t found any other italian restaurant that could live up to this one. The food is amazing and authentic, truly every item on the menu is worth trying once.

Really lovely little restaurant. The staff were very polite, even when having to deal with the large group of loud 'lads' behind us. The food was amazing, especially the garlic bread and the fudge brownie. Would definitely recommend. Was a lovely date night!

Everything about the food was average: - Quattro stagioni pizza (in photo) - had to add copious amounts of parmesan, chillies and pepper to extract flavour - Rustica - not bad - too much caramelised onion, not enough contrasting bitterness from sun-dried tomatoes and gorgonzola - Pizza crust - white and more like a Tesco frozen pizza crust than something charred and spelty - Montepulciano - my favourite wine but somehow a little too acidic All in all head here if you're hungry and just need to quickly fill your stomachs

They managed to fit us in without a booking on a theatre night.. we had quick but pleasant time and the pizza was much tastier than the seafood pasta dish... from hearing from another table... if you have or are using the 2 for 1 deal then make sure you ask before you sit or when you book or both and be specific, as you could get caught out and not get your discount!!

My daughter and I, took my wife for her birthday evening dinner. My daughter recommended the restaurant, has been there with her friends. It turns out to be a brilliant place. Very polite friendly staff. The tables very spread out Covid friendly. We were attend to straight away, taking drinks orders and giving menus. After ordering, the food arrived in perfect time I hate wait a long time, freshly cooked to perfection. We had salmon, spaghetti bolognese, and my wife had chicken with lemon sauce, she loved. There is plenty of choice for all people. We had puddings and coffee as well. I had sticky toffee delightful pudding... To some up. Great atmosphere, great food, great staff, worth tipping, no pressure and looked after are every needs. For sure we will return very soon.

Wow, what an incredible little find! Despite not having booked a table we were made to feel very welcome by the greeter who went out of his way to find us a table, even though the restaurant was already very busy. The gentleman serving us was quick, efficient and went the extra mile by recommending the home made lemonade with gin, a great suggestion! We didn't have to wait long for our food, and were able to spend this time appreciating the authentic Italian decor and soft atmospheric music. When the food arrived however, we were blown away! Absolutely delicious and fantastic portion sizes, a massive thank you to your chefs for that! Earlier in the evening we'd been let down by a double booked chain restaurant up the road, but you truly saved the day. I really can't thank your whole team enough for a really magical evening!

We went to La Tavernetta tonight before going to the Mayflower theatre . There were 5 of us, we all had different meals & all were very happy with the food. Very quaint Italian restaurant with good food. It's a Wednesday evening so it was a little quiet and that was lovely. Lovely, antiquey decor. A great chalk board with the days favourites on there. Food was of a very good quality for the most part. Came out very quickly, although probably because it was quiet. I had the ribeye and my wife had the lasagne, both of which were delicious. Did have to add my own seasoning, which always is a funny situation for me. On one hand, I get to flavour my food how I like it, on the other, isn't that what I pay for? But good beef is good beef and this tasted delicious. All in all, a good experience and I'll likely be back.

One of the nicest carbonaras I've had in a restaurant! Portion sizes are large and there happy to provide you with a box to take leftovers away. Slightly more upmarket than some of the other Southampton Italians but worth the additional cost for lovely food and beautiful decor. Only disappointment was the garlic bread, with wasn't nearly buttery or garlic enough for my tastes.

Whilst you couldn't fault the service, the food was not as good as Piccolo Mondo, just round the corner. The pasta was slightly overcooked and the pizza doughy. It was not made clear on the menu that you could have any topping on the pizza. The house wine was good and great value.

Highly recommended, me and my partner were here in August. The staff were super friendly and arranged a table for us even though they were really busy. Plus the chef was super helpful and changed the cheese on the pasta so that my partner could eat it. Portion was far too big so I had a doggy bag to take home with me which I was happy about. I ordered the calzone and was very pleased with it. Wine was good as well. Love the place :-) Only fault is the toilets are a bit of a pain to get to, keeps you fit going up all those stairs though lol

Food was good but very Pricey and they added a number of drinks to our bill that we never had so had to ask them to relook at the bill which seemed a very big inconvenience for them. They looked annoyed by this and appeared to be arguing with themselves over it. When the amended bill returned, no apologies were offered. We were a group of 7 all ordering meals, 4 adults and 3 kids. We stayed in Southampton for a week and this place was by far the most expensive and wasn't by far the most delicious food we ate.

Had a great experience at this restaurant . The staffs were very lovely and nice, which made our meal very pleasant. The restaurant itself is also well decorated. However the quality of food does not match up with their staffs’ great service. Pasta was medicore, and there is a definite need to revise the pizza dough recipe. We tried both the calzone and a normal pizza. The dough for both was very dry which made it quite tough to eat. The toppings were great though. Hope to see more improvements in the quality of food!

Was looking for a decent place to eat near the Mayflower Theatre and this was it. I had one of the Daily Specials (ravioli in a cream sauce with walnuts) which was delicious. I've always loved the food here and the staff are lovely. Just make sure you book in advance at the weekend or large groups as its popular. Prices for all the pasta and pizza are reasonable for the quality of food and portion you get, personally not a fan of the other main courses mainly because they are significantly highly priced.

What a lovely little discovery. Nice food overall, and lovely staff - I had the seafood linguine, (which was described as seafood spaghetti on the menu) the dish was very tasteful, apart from the squid, which was a little overcooked, and chewy, but it was still a very good bowl of pasta, with lots going on, the prawns, mussels etc, were lovely. We were in a slight rush, as we were heading out, but the staff pre-prepared the bill, so we could leave on time.

Visited this Italian for a quick lunch with a friend. Had to say, very impressed, the service was really attentive and considerate, so friendly. The food was well priced and very tasty, I only had a simple pasta dish, but it was done very very well. The actual environment was cosy, but has more than just the ground floor so can accommodate quite a few people. I recently visited La Tavernetta with family and found it to be a lovely, relaxed restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere and delicious food. When we visited there were only a few other tables occupied, although this was late on a Tuesday evening. I had the cheese-topped garlic bread to start and a beef and mushroom tagliatelle for my main. The bread was a little dry, but tasty enough, while the main was deliciously rich and much superior to my own attempts at carbonarra! Most of our party enjoyed their food too. Service was quick and attentive throughout the evening, however the music was coming from an amp just above our table and was a little bit loud. I recommend La Tavernetta.

Our seating was unfortunate - the waiters kept bumping into our chairs to get around us. The food tasted alright, vaguely reassembling what I ordered - this doesn't bother me too much... but when I order a £15.00 bowl of seafood pasta, I want more than mussels, cockles and juvenile prawns. It has the same mix of seafood as the pre-mix frozen bags you can get at tescos... im not going to a restaurant to eat something I can make myself for less money. That being said, the sauce was very nice and the staff were very accommodating.

It's become rather a tradition of our little friendgroup to indulge in "Friday Club"; a meal out with rotating choice of restaurant each week instead of takeaway. I've long wanted to go to an Italian restaurant but I'll admit to being rather fussy; I guess living there when I was little leaves me spoilt! La Tavernetta accepted my booking via their web service within around an hour of making it for the following friday for a party of 5. The restaurant itself is rustic and charming rather than polished but that's just the way it should be. The menu offers a wide selection at reasonable prices though they are very slightly above the chain restaurants nearby. The staff here are extremely friendly and chatty with food coming out within an acceptable timeframe. The food quality is excellent. None of the dishes presented to us were of poor size and everyone commented on how well balanced the meals were. I would note the bathrooms are upstairs so those with access issues should beware.

First off, I'm Italian. I don't normally go to Italian restaurants abroad, as the comparison is inevitable. However, I happened to find myself with a few friends at La Tavernetta last night. I already knew the head chef, as she used to work in another great restaurant in Southampton, so my expectations were high. I have to say: all the food that was brought to our table was nothing short of delicious, and I know that because we all shared most of the dishes. But it's not just about the food: the atmosphere was great, and the service was friendly, quick and extremely professional. The Fritto Misto and the Fried Calamari were tasty and fried to perfection, the sirloin steak (ordered by the only Englishman in the party) was, according to him, the best he's ever had, and all the pasta was cooked "al dente" and properly salted, two things that Italian restaurants abroad for some reason can never get right. Mussels were fresh and the duck was juicy and tender. Excellent choice of Italian wines and great homemade desserts. Prices are also very reasonable, I'm SO looking forward to going back there, even for a simple mid-week meal.
