Reviews of Starling Cloud

Very quick service. What we ordered was very good with crispy chips. Steak was very good and cooked to order. My chicken was a generous portion. Would go back if in Aberystwyth again.
R. A.
Room 6 on the ground floor at rear of building was a modern room clean and quiet at night, it had a king size bed with a comfy mattress and bedding, Air con, hairdryer, tea coffee making facilities with biscuits, USB sockets next to bed, free WiFi and parking, located in a sperate building to the pub which serves good food at very reasonable prices. Good choice on menu with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Breakfast is good too. Staff were great. Exceptional for the money. I paid £50 for the double room only for a Friday night.
A. J.
It's average. I wouldn't say it's amazing, but definitely not the worst.
We booked 2 rooms but only 1 was ready at check-in but this was due to them being a team member down in house keeping.
The room was okay. The bed was comfy and lighting was good. However there was a huge stain on the sofa bed, nets had dirt on them and the toilet roll holder was falling off of the wall. 1 of the 2 mugs were dirty. Photo evidence can be provided if needed.
Other than that, it was fine. Convenient location and easy to find. I would recommend that more tea, coffee and sugar should be put into the rooms.
Cannot comment on the Starling Cloud pub itself as we did not eat there and don't think we would at almost £10 a breakfast. I definitely do not think our room was a £110 room.
C. G.
So this is the pub you have to use to check into the hotel next door, we had two meals there on two different days and to be honest we didn’t eat much of them. Not too pricey but you get alot of salad and garnish compared to the actual food, some people like it some don’t, I asked for it to be removed but it came out covered in veg and garnish. At times it felt a little slow paced in there but the staff was friendly and helpful. Would I choose to eat there again, probably not but it does seem to get busy around dinner time so it can’t be all that bad, if you’re after somewhere that offer a carvery or a decent portioned Sunday roast then this isn’t the place to go.
P. G.
Quick and attentive staff. Little confusion as to where we could sit with our dog but that may have been our error in not reading signs? Food was served quickly and was hot and perfectly cooked. Very friendly place to visit. We will definitely be back.
J. T.
I spent my 50th birthday weekend here. It was amazing. The staff were fabulous, the food delicious and the room was lovely. They catered wonderfully for disabilities. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you very much to the team
K. J.
Would have been far better with proper melted cheese on top and freshly made guacamole 😋
A. T.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good rooms. Overall, the hotel is a pleasant place to stay but in need of fresh investment. Based on my own room experience, the hotel is a bit like a tired Premier Inn. Pub next door is excellent.
J. J.
Lovely staff and food. Served quickly. Wonderful play area for kids and dog friendly with water and treats for dogs. They've started doing events as well which I look forward to attending.
N. L.
We had a great weekend here. The room we stayed in was a good size and really clean. Breakfast was really nice as was an evening meal we had here also. Service was surprisingly fast and all the staff very friendly.
c. h.
Really poor service, drinks took ages to arrive, then one was missing and one wrong. Then our side was missing. I booked a table for 9 and yet we were seated at a booth that sat 6 so we had to put a couple of tables together ourselves. Only saving grace was food was nice
C. P.
Food was lovely but service was very poor. After we got our food noone came back to check on us or offer more drinks. We finished our food and were still waiting for someone to appear when we noticed 2 other people waiting at the bar. After a few minutes more of waiting I went to the kitchen door where I saw the staff on their phones! I knocked and told them they had a queue so they came out and did their job. We were fed up by this time so just paid and left with no more drinks or puddings. Hence no tip! To the owner. You need to train your staff how to look after your paying customer's!
S. D.
The room we had was nice and spacious but there is a lack of storage space for hanging clothes fortunately we were only staying for 2 nights so this wasn't really a problem. The TV is on the small side for todays standard but the WiFi is free. The pub is nice and has a large selection of draft and bottled beers, the food was nice but the portion sizes are very small for the price, they do take the Blue Light Card that then gives a 20% discount. Overall the stay was OK but nothing special for the price.
R. E.
The food was perfectly fine, the service was perfectly fine. Not overwhelmed by the experience however I didn't expect to be. We had a nice meal, no more to say.
M. C.
We had evening meals here on 2 consecutive nights which were well presented & tasty. Friendly & attentive staff & dogs are allowed in bar area. We will return when next in the area.
D. W.
Not busy but unable to use restaurant? So no waiter service. Ordered from the bar. Drink expensive £5 a pint food above usual price and just so all told not good value. No Rump steak on menu, mainly profit based establishment
A. O.
Service was slow quite a long wait between drinks order and returni g to say part of the drinks order was un available. Then an even longer wait before we could order our meal! Place was not busy either so not quite shure what the reason was! Food was fine
J. T.
The staff were really polite and friendly with an easy check in. The room was lovely and clean and cleaned daily with good facilities. All in all a lovely experience and will be returning soon.
D. W.
Arrived earlier than expected was greated by a friendly member of staff who was very polite and helpful room is very well laid out bed is very comfortable and spacious. would definitely be back in the near future.
A. G.
Arrived at 9pm hoping for food but the kitchen shut at 8pm, staff very nice and apologetic and explained why. It was a Thursday night and very quiet . Good parking and reasonable prices.
C. S.
Food was delicious and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice just my husband didn't get his toast with his full English. Apart from that lovely place highly recommended.
E. S.
The staff where very lovely, made sure that the orders arrived as best they could, music was great, very festive, had a nice time
J. L.
Cheap and cheerful.. comfy family rooms. Well rested. Free parking and close enough to walk into town.
E. G.
Very kind staff. The chicken rotisserie was good. But careful at the other meals which can be disappointing (in particular the roast chicken with mashed potato advertised as a speciality but less nice/good than the chicken rotisserie - which I recommend). I started with this one (on the first photo) and get so disappointed that i get the rotisserie straight afterwards, which you can see on the 2nd photo!).
You get a discount if you sleep there.
Overall nice time there.
G. l.
Great place, brilliant bar staff, not to busy but sell a great range of drinks. Highly recommended for a quiet clean and friendly bar
S. C.
Walked in without booking beforehand. Nothing special, prices were reasonable and food was standard. Clean and friendly staff. Nice place for a last minute roast dinner.
S. L.
Perfect stay!! Checkin straight forward with Reception/bar staff being extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms were cleaned to a high standard and very comfortable. Had dinner and breakfast in the pub. Food was very tasty and the pie and mash was the best we have ever tasted. Waiting staff were lovely and very attentive. We have moved to the area and will be visiting regularly as well as recommending to family and friends.

We really loved staying at Starling Cloud, it was perfectly placed for a few days in Aberystwyth, friendly staff, good food, comfortable room. Unfortunately although they did their best there were just not enough staff in the bar/restaurant and service was more than a little slow, saying that we would definitely stay there again
F. (.
We were staying in the hotel from 26th to 28th June and the experience was disappointing compared to our last visit which was pre Covid. Some changes were not unexpected given the current cost of living crisis but what disappointed us was the poor quality of service. The staff were very friendly and pleasant but sadly inept. We prepaid our full breakfast for the mornings of 27th and 28th. On each occasion, the food order when served to us was incorrect. We hosted a dinner in the restaurant for 6 guests on the evening of 27th June. Once we were served with the main meal, we were abandoned for the remainder of the evening. Nobody came to enquire if the food and drinks were satisfactory or if we needed any refills for our drinks, or if we wanted desserts or drinks to finish off the meal. I should add that we have no complaints about the quality of the food and beverages that we were served throughout our stay. The overall impression however is that there is a lack of management on the site committed to delivering a level of service that matches the quality we expected from Marstons.
S. O.
Sorry, but everything was 5 star ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐- until you pay!
Staff are awesome 😎 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5
Food was lush ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5
Amount paid was ⭐⭐⭐⭐4/5
Can I tip my 10% to staff? NO! - Unless you bring cash...😯 Which would have been £5 towards the staff on just my visit alone!🤨
Please change the system to allow staff their bonuses, which may I add, they fully deserve on this occasion.😠
A. P.
Food was extremely mediocre and disappointing. Food was OK but overcooked and dry. Could get better quality for a lot less cost!
Service was great when we could find a server even though the restaurant was empty.
Floor was disgusting and dirty and covered in food everywhere.
Table service was not good. Had to order deserts at the bar as gave up waiting. Deserts were nice though.
Manager was having an argument on the phone which was inappropriate and easily heard by customers.
A. L.
Second time we've stayed here. Lovely place, good food, fantastic atmosphere. Jess was a trooper, excellent sense of humour and deserves a promotion! I pulled an emergency switch accidentally and she was there in seconds checking up on me. Faultless care.
t. b.
The two members of staff were so friendly the Irish lad and the girl behind the bar brown hair were very accommodating. We always come back to this restaurant when we visit the area this 5 th time over the last 7 summers
P. B.
We came across this place on a Sunday evening and was really pleased we did. The food was excellent. The service was great and the beer was wonderful. A right result.
L. H.
Food was good but the service was shocking, had to ask for a white wine spritzer 3 times as everytime the waiter or waitress came back with the drink it was incorrect. I followed the waiter back to the bar in the end and explained to him what I wanted.
R. M.
We had a good meal here, although it wasn't to the liking of one of our friends that we were with. The staff were keen to get feedback, although the meal just wasn't cooked to her taste unfortunately.
R. R.
Very friendly staff . lovely meal.i would have given five stars but I didn't have discount off my food and drink bill I way staying in there hotel
L. J.
Went in for a festive meal and it was delicious, quick service , friendly staff .
l. h.
As a stranger to the area ,I saw this pub and decided to try it. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, my sister and I had the fixed price menu ,very good value ,and delicious.
D.
Basic food and a bit on the bad side of value for money. Needs more in the food or less of the price to be good value. Food was good, but not worth the price imo.
T. E.
Service was good ,bar staff listened and took advice when not sure how to pour a particular drink. Food was good and filling
l. H.
Good food, clean rooms staff great both day and night only thing children run around the pub after 8pm staff didn’t speak to the parents value for money
C. L.
I had the mixed grill and it was cooked perfectly to my liking, Guinness was also spot on
B. D.
It's not bad, but it's not great either. I do think both the food and drinks are overpriced for the area though and it is a bit out of the way.
N. A.
A family room, very comfortable and quiet with everything we needed. Would definitely stay again 😊
N. R.
Came in for a Sunday Roast and was definitely not dissapointed. The waiters were very friendly, and the food, namely the rotisserie chicken, was very well done. The prices are reasonable, and the place was clean and welcoming. Nice place for a quiet Sunday roast. Would recommend to anybody already in the area.
c. w.
SERVICE - Staff were most warm and welcoming and gave excellent service, taking orders and bringing both drinks and meals.
QUALITY - Refreshing Tanqueray Gin, Elderflower Tonic, Ice & Cucumber is a lovely glass.
QUALITY - Roast Beef, fresh vegetables, cooked and presented nicely on a hot plate.
Condiments were brought as requested.
OVERALL - The decor, freshness and spacious Bar/Restaurant was super clean.
We live 15 miles away and have every intention of returning with friends.
Thank you for giving what you promise.
a. w.
Very pleasant room with effective air con. Shame i couldn’t open the window at all though. Nevertheless i had an excellent sleep. The room was quiet and very well sound-proofed. Linen and room were clean. Probably bring your own toiletries as the one provided are of the Travelodge type ie fixed to the wall rather than individual soaps. Bit surprised that had to go into restaurant to book in to hotel but that is just a foible of the hotel. Staff were bright and cheerful.
D. J.
This pub is situated slightly out of town on one of the main roads into Aberystwyth; the A44.
It is more of a complex, with a pub/restaurant and a separate hotel with parking.
The hotel is basic but has all you would need for a stay; although you do have to check in via the pub.
The pub itself has two areas, the bar and the restaurant. Both however, are decorated the same but a signpost by the door directs you to the appropriate area.
There is an outdoor area around the side with a play area for children as well as an area out the front, which is under cover, for more seating options.
There is a good selection of beer and lager and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
Give it a try, you may be surprised.
T. S.
Dog friendly. Great range of food and drinks. Second visit this year. Would highly recommend.
S. M.
Had a nice drink one afternoon as just passing through. Staff very friendly and helpful.
B. L.
The room was clean , well stocked and felt cosy. The staff cleaning the rooms were so friendly and were helpful. The staff at the restaurant who helped us check in were brilliant too and made us feel very welcome. Overall a great experience and would come again if staying in Aberystwyth.
Thanks,
:)
S. S.
Clean well set out restaurant/pub .Pleasant friendly staff food good .Choice of menu very good
E.
They have very tasty and great menus.
S.
Well the beer was good and the rooms were good and the servers were utterly amazing! I'd employ every single one who I had a conversation with.
What wasn't good however is the burger and the stake. Sadly the beef patty was burned to death, literally I chew on charcoal tasting patty. The stake was tasteless and my colleague and I were wondering how can chips be so tasteless too. Anyway we finished it since we were hungry and had no energy to send it all back. Will be back for beer but no more food. Kitchen needs significant improvement. It can make or break an experience.
S. B.
Good food, lovely staff that always make u feel welcome, hotel spotless, we wud recommend it 10 out 10,
Sharon & Mark Broomham
e. J.
Very quiet when we got here, so I was very optimistic and after reading other reviews. However food arrived and it was great, a good selection of drinks too
M. M.
Nice place good service excellent food. Loved it 👍
K. S.
Lovely food tonight and staff are really helpful and polite. Will definitely return, very nice indeed x
L. T.
Friendly staff and good menu, food cooked properly. Will go again, lovely apple 🍏 pie and custard
S. C.
Hotel is great, staff who checked me in were fab, the rooms are decent sized. A few minor issues like main bathroom light didn't work and you can hear people walking around their rooms.
The biggest negative was the pub. On check in we were told we didn't need to book a table. 3 hours later and you couldn't move in the place. So always book a table!
I. W.
We had a good meal served by very helpful staff clean tables and good food
s. d.
Warm welcome interior needs work quite expensive but food was second to none great customer service food came quickly and hot I would defo go there again highly recommend
P. O.
Stayed here many times. Staff always pleasant. Room clean, comfy bed and decent bathroom👍👍
J. R.
Lovely clean, comfortable and quiet room. Shower worked well. Friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Good choice of food on the menu which arrived promptly when ordered. Ideal situation for walking into town and a great base for our 50th Aber students reunion weekend!
G. P.
Excellent quality and service as not been down here for 20 odd years and it's still as nice a place as I remember been in Wales
D. M.
Brilliantly situated close to the town and really enjoyed staying + staff were very friendly + rooms were very clean and spacious
R.
Stayed over night for a wedding. Huge bed, clean room and huge breakfast. What else could you ask for
A. R.
I was in Aberystwyth with my Wife, our Daughter and our dog. Having seen on the website that The Starling Cloud was dog friendly, we decided we would go there for a meal to get out of the cold, wet weather.
It was a very good idea. When we entered, we were shown to a table. We were told we had to go to the bar area with the dog, which was no problem. A gentleman who was sat at the table next to us with his dog, asked us if we needed water for the dog. He then informed us that he was the Porter and worked there at the Starling Cloud. He also told us that there were dog biscuits at the bar, should we wish to give them to our dog. Definitely dog friendly!!
We ordered food. My wife and I ordered the "Steak and Chicken", our Daughter ordered the "Bacon Burger". Considering the shortage of staff (same as for many hospitality establishments), the food arrived without any lengthy delay it was cooked to perfection and delicious!!
In conversation with the Porter, we mentioned that it was our wedding anniversary. After we had finished our meals, we were offered complimentary desserts as it was a celebration. The offer was very kind, but we had to decline the offer as the substantial main courses we had just eaten were quite enough for us!!
All in all a VERY enjoyable experience and will DEFINITELY go there again should the opportunity arise!!
A. C.
The staff were awesome, nothing was to much trouble they catered for the 20 giulietta enthusiast impeccably, would definitely go back
J. T.
Neither negative or positive opinion really of this place. Just personally for me, the bed was way too soft to get comfy...
The room was clean but empty for the size. The TV remote was flat, luckily I had a couple of AA's in my bag so wasn't an issue.
So the food in the bar. This was OK, nothing to write home about and the service was OK, but again wasn't much either. I think they had only 1 server on duty and really should have had at least 2. The 1 who was on duty was very pleasant and friendly, just over stretched....
So neither a good or bad review, I've certainly stayed in better and worse places.... Sorry, probably not too much help, but I wouldn't avoid this place if I needed to stay somewhere in the area...
T. R.
Good food, reasonably priced.
Very dog friendly.
Large car park.
J. Z.
Although old and tired decor, we still liked it.
The staff we very friendly an it had a nice feel to it.
The food looked good too even though we didn’t have anything ourselves
J. F.
Excellent meal ,very pleasant Staff .Everywhere was very clean .Thank you
W. S.
First visited Tuesday and had fish, everything was cooked perfectly so went back on Thursday and had gammon, again cooked perfectly. Very helpful friendly staff and dogs are welcome. Will definitely revisit when we are in the area again. Loved it 😊
O.
The breakfast was lovely, the hotel room itself was pretty much what you would expect from a Premier Inn, and as such this made the hotel perfectly adequate.
The only downsides that I had was that I felt the air conditioning wasn’t the most powerful, the room didn’t seem to cool down anymore when it was on than when it was off, and the double bed is made up of two single beds and the mattress had a large ridge in the middle which meant I had to sleep on one side and wasn’t able to stretch out. Despite this I had a great nights sleep and I would stay here again in the future without hesitation, just please invest in some new mattresses!
J. K.
A good clean pub, typical Marston's set up. Friendly staff, prompt service, good food, best steak I've had in a fair while.
R. T.
Stay was impaired by broken internet connection throughout our 3 day/2 night stay. No credit card payments could be made so we did not eat at the restaurant.
C. J.
Room was faultless... The pub/restaurant on the other hand 😳 Didn't have any toilet paper in the ladies or disabled toilets, obviously hadn't been cleaned that day either as smelt awful and had sticky sink/floors. Various things advertised but not actually on the menu! Bar staff not knowing what certain drinks were and having to leave the bar to ask and leaving others to wait?! Food was highly overpriced for what it was. (Wetherspoon grub with a restaurant price tag!) Friendly bar staff but just need a better manager maybe?!
P. B.
Arrived for early lunch to a very quiet pub. However, as the place started to fill up it was obvious that the staff, although very pleasant and professional, were under pressure. Starters were ordered and arrived promptly. However, we ordered a sharer of chicken wings with dips. Upon arrival the dips were not in separate pots but plastered all over the food, which spoilt it for one of us who didn't like the sauce. Mains arrived and the roast chicken was delicious. However the chicken in the chicken pie was hard. Can't decide if overcooked or cheap imported chicken. Not the best I've eaten. We would have ordered pudding but the wait after finishing mains and staff eventually appearing to clear the table meant the moment had passed. Not the best meal we've had here.
A. B.
Really nice place to sit and eat. Ended up having a dessert whilst here. The chocolate cake with melted chocolate, not normally a chocolate pudding fan as can find them rich but this pudding was amazing, just right for a sweet tooth.
K. H.
Friendly staff. Prompt and courteous service. Slightly expensive, but nice food. Would go there again.
s. r.
Has come along way in the recent years as in better food but service could do with improving
M. J.
Meal wasn't warm from the off. Rotisserie Chicken needed to be cooked longer. It was a "not busy" Saturday lunch, and some meals weren't available! Staff were friendly and helpful!
S. b.
Staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. Sunday lunch (chicken + 2 sides) was a disappointment, chicken was amazing, let down by cold watery veg and not very much veg and the mashed potatoes were obviously cooked in the microwave, over cooked and grey ( all dried down one side) staff did replace veg and mash, and were apologetic. So put right in the end. Kids portion was very small and strange choice of veg for a child dinner.
a. R.
Every time we've been we always had good service and a good meal on this particular occasion the menu was limited and there was no staff my sister had a pork dinner and had to send it back as it was not nice then she had the chicken dinner and that was tough so we were not very impressed this time
s. w.
The wait staff were absolutely lovely, the Camembert was delicious, and the gravy and potatoes were perfect. My cauliflower cheese was cold, but Salli, our server, was very helpful and tried her best to make sure we were still satisfied with our meal. The atmosphere was cosy, especially as we were near the rotisserie oven!
C. O.
Greated with a smile , which continued throughout the evening. My wife was greeted with a birthday wish and regards from All staff a very nice touch .
Food and cocktails perfect. Served in good time . Staff were attentive. Excellent experience.
N. Y.
We chose this place as we got married earlier in the registry office round the corner, the service in the restaurant was fab, but the food quality and presentation was not up to our expectations, my new wife ordered the steak and ale pie and I ordered steak, the party on the pie was not edible, it was hard , the steak was basically cremated.
As for the room(no7) can’t fault it, clean tidy well presented A1, would recommend staying at the starling cloud to friends and family.
D. C.
Went for the 3 course lunch menu at very reasonable price. Only issues were the cooking of the steak (asked for Med came out WD) and Fish Fingers on kids meal were over cooked. Service was very good and friendly.
j. p.
Iv stayed in many hotels in Aberystwyth and this one is the best, the rooms are amazing and Modern, probably on par with hotels like the Hilton (rooms).
The pub staff are very friendly and always helpful, the staff in this pub are the friendlies and Politest people iv ever come across and Iv don't a lot of travelling with my work.
Iv not had a bad meal in this place food is Brilliant, My favourite is the lamb shank.
n. g.
Average, room OK, seems a little expensive for what you get. We didn't eat in pub although we had drinks, some staff seemed happier than others.
We didn't enjoy our stay as much as the last time.
Great location- only 10 minuteswalk into the town centre, lots of parking.
M. M.
Have stayed here a good few times over the years. The biggest shock I got was they had no coke as I use this as my mixer then they were running short on vodka which meant I had to bring my own mixer for the five nights we stayed. It wasn't the staffs fault they were lovely and friendly
g. m.
Typical company run pub with an accomodation block.
Well kept beers, young friendly staff. Good modern type pub food at reasonable prices. Child friendly, good location, play area , large car park and beer garden complete the picture. Close to town center 10 min walk, train station and shopping areas.
r. l.
Really friendly place the staff made you feel welcome. The food was great also. will definitely stay again if I am working in the area in the future.
W. M.
Waitress Salli, couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. She even laughed at our jokes! (Which we’re not that funny) Food was wonderful and the whole dining experience was a joy. And our relatives who now live locally have said they’ll be back to dine.
A special mention to our fantastic waitress Salli.
K. M.
Bedroom was very comfortable and lovely white fluffy towels.
D. Y.
Great location, friendly staff, quiet rooms, bed comfortable.
A little tatty around the edges, TV controller was frustrating and temperamental.
Other wise a good stay, but perhaps a little over priced
L. e.
We were greeted & seated quickly, drinks were prompt, very satisfied with staff politeness, friendlyness, always smiling, food was excellent & appeared nothing was to much trouble, definitely will be booking again
N. G.
The starling cloud is a great place to stay.Nice rooms clean and modern. The restaurant/bar attached is good too.The staff are friendly and polite. Also very professional. Food is good too.can highly recommended this hotel.
J. C.
A couple of minor things in the room bathroom ... addition of a small shelf near the sink and a glass (plastic?) to hold tooth brush, hair brush etc. And a small shelf or basket in the shower to hold personal shower gels and shampoo as some people are allergic to the normal hotel provided products
d. n.
Great room nice and clean. Food fine up to now. Looking forward to breakfast. Staff helpful and friendly
S. C.
Lovely friendly staff, were working really hard although clearly short staffed. We were seated and served quickly and didn't have to wait long for food or drinks.
L. P.
First meal out in 12 months for Fathers Day treat with wife and children. No mixed grill so that wasn't a great start. Beer was cold although the second pint i had the glass smelled of Dishwater. It i what it is, could have been worse, but could also have been better. Sevice staff were good, although the chap on the door 'greeting' people, eithet wear a mask, or don't - your chin doesn't need protecting.
K. W.
As a one night stop, it is definitely the place to go. Fantastic, tasty food and lovely staff.
One slight issue was with obtaining the key and going to the room however that wouldn't have been the cleaning staffs fault.
Will be coming back 100% the next time we come back, it is such a lovely atmosphere with a welcoming vibe from the staff members.
Definitely a place for my go-to list.
S. T.
Food good when you get it all, the lad who took the order was very good but 1 of the waitresses could only be bothered about her phone in her back pocket and forgetting things. Also texting while pouring drinks. Not very good customer service.
D. I.
Wanted mixed grill but no steak no gammon and no brown sauce this restaurant should and could do better on the plus side staff are excellent very pleasant would go again worth a second visit
N. M.
Comfortable and cosy stay, clean rooms and great service
D. B.
food was adequate out of some ingredients namely salad how can you run out of salad dishes .service was by a young lady very pleasant and cheerful

My sister and I eat here at least once a week now and pre lockdown.
Never have we had such slow service. The lady- Raine was running around everywhere trying to cope with everything. She was being abused by customer's. I was sharp with her to begin with having waited 15mins for drinks etc. When she came i asked her just to stand and take some deep breaths and calm herself. I asked her to tell me what the problem was. She was new to her role, with a new menu, no head chef, no managerial support and only one other member of staff- Ethan. I advised her when she met customer's at the door she explained to them that she apologised first and explained that due to illness etc they were short staffed therefore service would be longer than the usual standard. I watched her practice this and customer's were more than happy. Basic customer communication- where is the training? After Raine felt comfortable with doing it, she was calmer and back in charge. The additional issue of no head chef and new menu, which the kitchen staff didn't know how to operate also saw her giving them the support they needed. In fact they did a super job. Our food was beautifully prepared, cooked and served. She coped extremely well after she received just a bit of gentle guidance and support. I believe it was grossly unfair and extremely unprofessional to place Raine and Ethan in this position in the first place. I asked where the manager was and was told she had gone sick! But the way she said it left me thinking there was more to it! If I was rating on her alone it would have been maximum stars but, due to the lack of help and support it is much lower. Please praise her for her actions today, she deserves recognition for keeping everything going.

Reduced menu due to Corona measures but still good choice overall. Staff very friendly, great service. Waitress even found a vegan main course and dessert for me that weren't on menu. All our meals were good, especially vegan lasagne. Signage clear and covid measures in place.
W. E.
Clean and welcoming, had a lovely meal too few pint s feels covid safe and staying in their lovely hotel, Highley recommended
S.
Would like to see it doing chicken as it used to in 2021, sadly didn't go as often this year
G. B. (. P.
Nice place, went here after a long day shopping.
The service was a little slow and the waitress was more interested in talking to her friend rather than take an order, which got her asking me the sand question twice without realising, but, the food was good.
I had half a chicken hunters chicken. The leg was so juicy, then got to the very dry breast which was a shame, but it was still nice.
My wife had the curry and she thoroughly enjoyed it.

Came here last night for a couple of beers and a quick bite , just waiting for a friend as we were heading into town for a catch up.
Spoke to an absolutely lovely lady called Siobhan, she was so helpful and cheerful , really enjoyed my time there, foods good , pint was nice and lively too.
I will be back ! Thanks siobhan

Clean, spacious accommodation, and an easy stroll into Aberystwyth. Air conditioning, free WiFi, restaurant close by and very quiet, thanks to the double glazing. If you're lucky enough to get s room at the back, you'll even see the Cwm Rheidol steam railway loco and carriages entering and leaving Aber for Devils Bridge. Highly recommended.
G. T.
Good family friendly pub. Food was very good and the manager thoughtful and responsive.
T. P.
Only went to the hotel part the restraunt was closed due to a member of staff having covid . Hotel very basic but clean , beds very hard going home with bad back
B. B.
Excellent customer service, room immaculate and just a stones throw from the town...
Restaurant really accommodating and made my little girl feel part of the family, Simone couldn't of done more for us at breakfast.
Didn't get a chance to have dinner but breakfast was just what I needed after a perfect night's sleep
Nothing else to say really, keep up the good work

Visited the starling cloud last week on several occasions. The staff are really friendly and looked after us especially the boss. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was great too. A few of our party stayed in the hotel too and they found it to be a quiet, comfy room with a great breakfast. So overall I'd definitely highly recommend the starling cloud.
A.
Really lovely staff, taking care to get the correct drinks especially when it comes to craft ales and special gins. The food was delicious, and amendments are easy to make. The wait time was considered to be 45 minutes, but it felt way less so I doubt it was that long. A comfortable pub restaurant, kids were also here, as were older couples and students. Lovely for everyone :) only reason for not 5 stars is because its comfortable and not experimental, standard pub food - although it was still great!
T. M.
Couldn't fault the service staff or food from the early shift was excellent . Magda, our server was brilliant. One thing i will say. The service and customer satisfaction went down when the afternoon shift started. They were more interested in talking to each other than clearing tables, customers doing it themselves.
Not good. 6/1/19.
T. E.
Not your nice cozy restaurant but great food none the less. The service did seem a little slow and not entirely on the ball for somewhere relatively quiet but if you aren't in a rush then just relax and enjoy your meal. My stake was perfectly cooked to my liking and very tasty, their fries are great too. My wife's battered fish was nice and crispy batter with nice soft fish.
A. l. b. o. e.
FOOD...IS...AMAZING! i had a homemade lasagne and my partner had a curried dish. the service is humorous and friendly and make you feel at home. The chef is a fun character and the management and staff members always want to make sure your satisfied with your drinks and meals. cant wait to go again.
D. G.
The food is okay, bit pricey for what you get.
J. W.
The service and food is very basic. We have been coming to the pub for over 5 year's and the service and food has gone down hill. Prawn cocktail no cucumber or tomatoes just a bit of of green salad
Arrived at the pub 2.45pm no Sunday roast left, no cauliflower cheese very disappointing. A few members of staff are very nice and some others are not very friendly, it's such a shame as the pub could offer so much more for the prime location.
A. R.
Meal with friends
We had a burger, large fish and chips, light bite scampi. Service was a bit slow in that i had to ask the waiter was there a long wait?
After the meal arrived. Everything was very tasty. The place wasn't that busy. After receiving our meals we had a relaxing chat.
C. D.
Party of four of us had lunch plus dessert. The food was very nice and arrived quickly. The half chicken went down particularly well. The desserts were lovely! Everyone really enjoyed them. Our server was friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Shame there weren't any decaff tea or coffee options for the pregnant member of the party, however there were enough cold options that it wasn't an issue.
D. R.
Service was excellent and worthy of 5 stars. Very family friendly and standard of food would be 3 out of 5 hence the 4 star rating.
N. W.
Lovely family pub with great menu and the hot fresh chicken looked amazing. Was quiet and food served pretty quick. Staff OK but older chap behind bar had an attitude towards another guest who complain the coleslaw looked nothing like the menu picture. We had no issues though.
A. b.
Overall it was a good experience but there were a few items on the menu that were not available. Quite surprised as this was the day you were advertising as steak night and hoping to attract customers.
L. A.
The surroundings are very nice. Good selection of lagers and beers. We booked online although as the weather was very nice we sat outside. Menu wasn't difficult to understand. Time from ordering to getting the food was a little long at nearly 50 minutes and it was cold compared to how I like my food. Had fish chips and garden peas. It was sufficient for the price
N. G.
Good room and food. However, really really slow service as the team was obviously under resourced, putting the waitress in an impossible position
D. I.
Friendly staff, nice food, every meal we tried on the new menu was excellent. Nicely decorated and lovely beer garden. Could do with a couple more draft ales. Stayed overnight in the separate accommodation block, this meant no noise from the pub could be heard even in our room which was the closest to it. The room was air conditioned, comfortable, well decorated, with fast WiFi. It was a little cramped, especially with the sofa bed folded out, but still very nice and good value. Cooked breakfast included in the price, it was good, but slightly let down by a poor choice of pastries and bland sausages.
J. A.
Staying with work, major staff shortage waiting along time to get served. For food and drink. Overall clean and tidy comfortable rooms is a plus.
M. G.
Had an enjoyable 3 night stay with friends and found the accommodation comfortable and of a good standard. Food in the restaurant/pub was good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was not included in the room price but worth the extra. However, our room was not cleaned during our stay even though the "please clean room" notice was left on door. The hospitality and restaurant service was excellent from all staff members.
D. C.
I booked to stay a couple of nights as I was there for a funeral, the staff were so polite and helpful, nothing was a problem for them,
The room was very comfortable and spotless, plenty of room to park,
The restaurant was very clean with some lovely food, we were able to set up tabs and pay after events,
I would stay here again and defiantly eat here in a heartbeat
a.
Food excellent but long wait time
C. H.
Loved this place, reception staff really friendly and helpful. Food was lovely, service great. Really handy for the shops and beach
R. J.
The food and service was great. We hadn't been to Starling Cloud for a while as the food had not been very good but we will certainly call again.
A. L.
Excellent food had a really good night, the staff friendly always smiling, will go back when we come back down as live in the midlands, going home tomorrow so lovely last evening with a very special friend
c. P.
Fantastic service from the staff. The food was really good. Well worth a visit!
R. N.
Handy Pub/restaurant in Aberystwyth. Food was fine, staff very friendly. It did feel a tad expensive in terms of food vs price but not excessively so. Overall would visit again.
I. L.
Sunday lunch- Generous portions.... but the gravy is like brown water, no flavor at all. It's advertised as ' home-made'... the chef needs to find another recipe!
K. D.
While the food can be nice it can also be cold or not cooked to spec.
Service is often slow due to staffing and we have left before dessert a few times due to the wait.
My mum is still boycotting the venue due to our table receiving 3 or 4 plates which were chipped. She has complained a few times but has received no response.
Pub is nice.

I stayed at the motel and also had evening meals in the pub. The room was fine, although the winter duvet made the room rather too warm at night. The pub food was tasty and the service on the first evening excellent, the second evening the girl couldn't even be bothered to bring cutlery a stark contrast to the previous day when the Irish lady was excellent.
L. t.
Came today 1/1/2018 for a family meal as we visited at the end of summer and had a lovely meal, good portions, decent prices, but today portions were smaller, prices have increased, not all items were on the plate, adult portion of macaroni and cheese is the same size as child's portion in a well known restaurant, strong cheese was used in macaroni cheese so it was overpowering taste. Had to stop and get the kids more food on the way home as they were still hungry. 65 mile round trip for what we thought would be a lovely meal. Very disappointed and will not be returning again. Will stick to well known restaurant where we leave full for less money.
M. S.
The food was ok and the drinks. However, the food took to long nearly 1 hour and everything seemed overly priced for what it was. The waitress was being extremely apologetic however there was no organisation short staffed and people appeared not to know what they were doing. We finished out meals and set off!
N. M.
Very friendly staff, very nice food! Staff were clearly working very hard so maybe management should put more staff on shift to lighten the workload
H. M.
Had a really delicious breaded chicken burger, with bacon and cheese. Was amazing.
Have a really varied chicken menu with rotisserie and breaded chicken, burgers, roasts etc.
However, also have other options if chicken not for you like fish for example.
Came with a couple of vegan people and there were a few options which is good. Only downside is there was only one real dessert option for the vegans and that was apple pie, so if they weren't to like that then they would not really have been able to have anything other than ice cream.
For non vegans the dessert menu was fantastic I had a really yummy chocolate cookie cup that was melt in the mouth.
C. H. (.
Friendly staff. Nice food. Very clean place. Only gripe I had was that there weren't any obvious signs for cigarette disposal out front. There was only one disposal tray and I didn't notice it until after I threw my cigarette into the road/path. Not an issue for me, but may upset non smokers/passers-by.
G. M.
Nice room poor restaurant. Ordered drinks with food. No drinks so asked again when food was served. Still ended up waiting on drinks and had to leave meal and go to the bar and request them again. Place was quiet and was only 3 drinks. Didn't have straws either, strange for a pub. Shame won't be eating here again.
R. J.
Great for kids - they've got a little play area and a good choice of children's meals. Children's meals come out quickly.
Been here a few times now and there's always a long wait for (adult) food - roughly 90 mins today. Recommend if you've got a lot of time, not if you're in a rush.
Excellent lunch time menu (12:30-5) Mon-Fri: £6/£8/£10 for one/two/three courses.
S. J.
The rooms are very clean & spacious, but the card keys are a nightmare we has 3 in the 3 days we were there. The staff in the adjoining pub ( where you sign in & get your key card ) were great & nothing was too much trouble for them , even under pressure . The food was average even though the pub was always busy .
J. D.
Very short staffed but only a few customers. Could have taken more time serving than chatting to each other. No body to ask for more coffee. Had to look for a member of staff to take out payment. I understand they're short staffed but at least looks free the few customers you have.
A. J.
There was a mistake with order but quickly rectified with no need to complain. As a Marston's shareholder I haven't used Marstons pubs for a while as disappointed with west Midlands pub but the starling cloud has restored my faith.
J. J.
Food was OK. Typical for a chain of this size. Not sure if they've got to grips with table service for drinks due to the new rules, or just a tad short staffed, but had to constantly try and attract someone's attention 10 minutes before finishing a drink so that the next would come in reasonable time. Hotel overpriced for what it was (£160) but that's supply and demand I suppose!
b. h.
We only stopped for coffee and the outside seating was empty. After entering, I was asked to sanitise hands and was asked the Track and Trace questions by a very pleasant masked server. Nice to see that safety was first. Not only that but the coffee was good.
J. O.
Still a good place to go, although food quality is not as it was.
D. B.
Great hotel which we use to visit our daughter at Aberystwyth university. Reasonably priced, good sized, ensuite rooms with the usual tea/coffee making stuff. Comfy beds. Good showers and always quiet. Free parking outside the hotel. There is the option to eat breakfast (which we have done - good cooked and continental options) and other meals at the Starling Cloud next door. Similar standard hotel to a Premier Inn.
R. M.
Good food large portion which was very welcome nice and friendly and welcoming to our dogs and provided dog treats.
C. W.
We stayed for the weekend an the room was nice, standard. I really liked that the sofa bed turned into a double so me my son an my husband slept all together on one massive bed!
After paying £130 a night we thought breakfast would be included but it wasn't.
A. M.
Nice, clean rooms with adjustable heating. Restaurant food is just okay but great value for money.
A. M.
Slightly better than a Premier Inn. Not as good as a Holiday Inn Express
P. W.
Very impressed,so much better, hadn't been for ages as it really had become dreadful. The service was excellent,we did have to wait a little while after our order was taken by a great guy nothing was to much trouble for him,but in all fairness they were over run from visitors and players to the local Rugby tournament. Hope it stays ad good,Evan better than when it first opened and that was good ,well done to all the Starling Cloud team .
S. B.
Food was good and service was okay. We went on a Saturday night and it took about an hour for our food to come out but they didn’t tell us about the wait. Other than that, it’s a good family pub!
E. J.
Great beer, decent enough food... Sorry to say that despite a promising menu, the food never blows me away... Kudos for actual rotisserie chicken, but let down a bit by the extras (sauce, mash, etc). Recommended if you're in the neighbourhood, and definitely worth trying at least once, I can imagine you could well gal in live with the place. Will always keep an open mind and visit when possible.
p. d.
Had a great night's sleep. . Hotel was brand new and was all nice and clean
Only bad point is we were promised private parking for our bikes and when we turned up they said there was not. . So we had to leave outside all night. . Also no breakfast was included too. .
M. C.
Lovely clean room, nice food, friendly staff pub restaurant nicely decorated for Christmas just a lovely experience we will come again. Thank you so much.
M. M.
A fab place. Staff are extremely friendly & accomodating.
Food was limited (no steak or chicken), but Minted Lamb was yummy...
A pleasure to be there
J. M.
Fairly run of the mill Marston's pub. Service was pretty slow for a quiet Sunday evening, but friendly when it arrived. Meals generally decent, the chicken tacos were really good. Sirloin steak unfortunately disappointing, full of gristle and no refund or offer of such offered.
B. L.
Pretty standard pub fare, the bar staff and servers were great. Never saw my onion rings but hey ho it was fine otherwise...
J. H.
Food was ok service terrible food came out at different times. Never cleared table or asked if we wanted sweet.
Finally ordered ordered the sweet at the bar want 30minute for a icecream. There was only half a dozen people in the so it was hardly busy
M. P.
The service was excellent but the menu, particularly the "specials", was unimaginative. We were a party of 12 and I was impressed by how quickly we were served with both food and drinks.....five gold stars to our waitress! However, I was totally unimpressed with the cleanliness in the ladies toilet which I visited early in the evening. This is one area that certainly needs attention as every cubicle had toilet paper and rubbish on the floor, which I might have expected had it been the early hours of the morning. Would I go there again....yes.
R. S.
I've had a few ropey pints in here recently, which is a pity because the beer used to be really good. They're happy to change it though; hopefully it's a temporary aberration caused by a staff shortage.
J. H.
Excellent service from friendly staff. Wheelchair accessible, and accomodating with no issues. Food was delicious and prompt, staff flexible with requests around both food and drink.
While not vegan myself, I went for a one of the vegan options-the menu is varied catering to various dietary restrictions, without making you feel like you are being awkward, or that you have gone to a 'hippie' or 'hipster' place by mistake!
P. J.
It was good to be back after such a long time! Staff - great. Food - Great. Ambience - gently vibrant.
C. J.
Friendly service. Interesting and varied menu and very good meal. Lost points because of poor attention to the ladies toilets. No excuse for several cubicles being out of toilet paper. one was filthy but that could have just happened who knows. But attention to toilet cleaning and supplies means a lot to many of us and could put me off going again
K. F.
Lovely rooms, great bar & restaurant. Fantastic service.
B. M.
Good clean place big room. Great price. Pleasant staff . Good breakfast. 10mins walk to town. Will stay again.
K.
Fantastic meal with the family! Beautiful food cooked to perfection! Children meals weren't your average slop on a plate. Lots of effort put into the meals. Great staff! A must try!!
A. B.
Excellent service, comfy beds and a great night's sleep. Food in restaurant was very quick after ordering.
D.
Excellent motel style place adjacent to a modern pub which serves food. Spotlessly clean. Friendly/ cheerful staff in the pub and room cleaner's. Lots of hot water and towels. Tea/ coffee in the room. Free parking and an easy flat walk into Aberystwyth. Good food and beer selection in the pub. There's a McDonald's and a Costa Coffee at the next roundabout too. I totally recommend this place.
J. B.
I stayed last night checked in around 9.40 and the man was doing last orders but said he’d take my order for a drink after if i don’t make it back in time .Really polit
S. A.
Excellent location with plenty of easy parking. A pub of the Brewer's Fayre variety (but different owner) some very good offers. Little touches like homemade coleslaw and a decent burger - yep, not fine dining but two adult meals for £10, you're not going to go wrong.
P. C.
I was only there for a hour in the beer garden but it seemed like a pleasant place. I will return next time I come over from Birmingham...
A. H.
Good food served by very pleasant staff.
We will return.
J. H.
Checking in was quick and easy, receptionist very polite. The room was clean and cosy, the food in the restaurant was ok, staff were pleasant and efficient.
D. W.
A nice enough place that has been busy both times i have visited.
It is waited service.. albeit slow for your order to be taken initially. Once the orders in it didnt seem to take too long.
The food is nice an ld standards prices for a pub chain.
Little corner area for children under 5 to play in...although it is filled with machines that want your money so be warned you woll3be asked for some 'pennies' if you send your kids in here 😁
F. G.
Matt the manger was wonderful, nothing was too much trouble, we will definitely be back.
He made us all feel very welcome!
Thank you Matt!
The food was excellent as was the service and very good value for money.
Key Cards:
The key cards were a nightmare, they stopped working regularly.....
Marstons you need to get this sorted!
we were all glad it wasn’t raining or it would have caused us more problems
The Rooms:
The rooms were clean, spacious with a queen size mattress, fresh towels daily plus tea, coffee and water.
The only downside was the wardrobe and cupboard space, because we stayed 3 nights it would have been nice to hang up a few more items and draws for underwear would have been a good idea.
I would definitely recommend this accommodation if you’re staying in Aberstwyth, it was within easy walking distance to the town.
S. H.
Hotel room is very clean and functional. Facilities are everything you'd expect including a hairdryer and tea/coffee making Inc biscuits. Pub is nice too, food in evening is a decent selection (menus in room if you want to look before going) breakfast is also good. Overall a good stay.
F. B.
The food has definitely improved since my last visit about 7 years ago. Clean environment and good Covid precautions in place.
r. b.
Fish on my plate and my daughters were overcooked after we complained we both had it changed to scampi. The server was very helpful and thoughtful
S. K.
Went with my family which included our special needs son and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The waitress was great and understood about our son and pointed out the two for £10 menu. The food was good. Very impressed
T. S.
We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights, 6 & 7th March. Room was really good, couldn't fault it. We had our one year old with us. We ate iut both nights at the pub and enjoyed the food. We did pay for breakfast for both mornings and it was great on the saturday but we had to leave early sunday morning due to my little boy being ill. Would definitely visit again. All staff were pleasant and helpful.
P. B.
We stayed one night in their adjacent accommodation. The room was remarkably clean and is it a compliment to say it was of Premier Inn quality? I hope so. There was minimal noise at night, except for some children kept up unusually late. Ample parking. Morning breakfast was also excellent. We'll stay here again for our next visit.
A. B.
Lovely big room, clean and tidy, didn't have food but loads of people eating, rooms are very clean and tidy
S. N.
Good pub food, nice beer and ambience but made great by the warm welcome and service from every single team member.
A. P.
We stayed in a double bedded room, which consisted of a bed and a sofa-bed. The sofa bed was really comfy though. The service was excellent, towels and toileteries were supplied. Breakfast was included. You could choose between different options, the portions were quite big. The staff was really friendly.
J. P.
Lovely room . Great food
P. J.
Rooms are very good, but food quality and service has dipped from previous visits
J. L.
Room comfortable but not well thought out, would have been much better with a double rather than 2 singles zipped together. Hotel quite noisy with a background hum and doors slamming. Evening meal OK but slow. Breakfast awful. Buffet minimal. Cooked breakfast OK, apart from undercooked sausage. Tried to tell staff but couldn't get their attention. Seemed too busy having a session of complaining loudly to each other about other staff members to care about customers. Shame.
A. K.
A quality pub! Spotlessly clean; possibly the cleanest and tidiest pub I've ever seen. Wide selection of food and drinks. You pay a fair price for food, but you really get what you pay for. Food was cooked well and in good portion sizes. Really friendily and helpful staff. Can't fault this pub in any way. Would recommend.
Y. B.
Popped in for a meal mid afternoon. Amazing friendly and professional staff. Great food and very dog friendly. Highly recommend.
S. J.
This place is tailored to families with children. Nice enough if you like rotisserie pub grub. It's probably a bit too busy to have a quiet, grown-ups only meal. The service is really good.
S. D. T.
Stayed in the hotel section, rather than going to the pub. Rooms are reasonably-priced, large, en-suite, with a comfy bed. Ticks all the boxes for a quick stay, really. Pretty quiet, as it's set back from the main road. A nice walk down to the seafront, too.
K. C.
Accommodation was clean and comfortable but disappointed with the pub facilities, travelling with a coeliac there was no provision for anyone requiring a special diet... Very unusual these days. Luckily the town was a bit more progressive 😊
G.
Great food - steak cooked perfect and good prices. Good atmosphere. Great room - comfortable - could do with spare pillows as I like 2! Also some small shampoo/conditioner would be handy!
L. H.
After visiting The Starling Cloud on a number of occasions we were very disappointed with our meal yesterday. My husband's mixed grill included a very under cooked piece of gammon and my steak which came after the other three meals for our table was well done instead of medium rare as asked for and the plate was missing the rocket leaves. On arrival I was ignored at the door for seating by at least three people so we sat down. We could immediately see tables that had not been cleared, chairs that had been placed at other tables not tidied away and altogether not a good experience. Thankfully my childrens' two meals were fine. We will not be going back.
R. E.
The rossterie chicken I had was really delicious as were the ribs, mixed grill and childs meal for my family. The staff were efficient, manager welcoming and ambience great. Will definitely be returning soon. Many Thanks!
A. “. r. D.
Staff were nice enough...
Food was OK but over priced for basic pub menus..
Not bad food just not outstanding
S. E.
It was convenient due to the location but not impressed with the food. Between a table of four, the burgers were dry, the pie was ok, the scampi and chips were very dull and not a meals worth on the plate and the hash was nice but needed something to go with it. For over £10 a head we expected to.atleast not be placed by the screeming kids
r. w.
first time there ,food good, service good and friendly, although seemed bit under staffed,
I. K. W.
Could be a good place to stay but spoiled by poor systems. You can only get a receipt for 1 night at a time rather than whole visit, door entry cards cancel every day and have to be re-activated. Breakfast much improved on previous visits but very slow.
S. R.
Always had really good food here. Can get busy at times but food comes out quickly once you've ordered. Sunday roast is really nice as the chicken is from their rotisserie.
A. S.
Very good food on the whole, but side orders were forgotten about and one starter seemed unusually small compared to others, especially as it was the most expensive.
In terms of service, the staff seemed to be unmotivated and unprofesional, often talking amongst themselves whilst simultaneously serving customers. Moreover, the staff seemed to be unfamiliar with their own menu! I had to repeat my order multiple times before having to point at the item that I wanted.
There is a wide range of drinks available, but probably the most expensive place in town (a bulmers set me back £4.05).
Overall a lovely pub with great food, but dont expect great service and it is not the place to start a night on the town.
M. M.
Great menu and customer service
A. O.
Came to the Starling Cloud Hotel and Pub in Aberystwyth for an overnight work stay; this being my first time in Aber. The hotel room was clean, incredibly comfy and quiet. The Maston Inns Pub was inviting and the smell of freshly coked rotisserie chicken coming from the oven that you can watch while it cooks is the best. Great value menu and the drink prices great. A ten minute walk into town if you want to and a Tesco superstore nearby. If I return for work, I will stay and eat here. Last but not least, the staff were fantastic and very friendly. Well done.
L. D.
Breakfast was amazing. Great Covid SOP. Truly felt like we were in good care by Nathan and Simon throughout our stay here.
R. M.
Pleasant staff and reasonably priced food and drink
N. R.
I love the ease of booking and the fact that once I have checked in, I am in a completely different building to the pub and hence pub noise is not an issue. I have used this place for years and have not been disappointed. It's an inn, not a 5* hotel, but the price reflects that. Very comfy bedrooms.
D. H.
Hmmm - not impressed. Sunday roast was mediocre and service was terrible. Surroundings were pleasant but the layout was a bit too open if you know what I mean. There are better places to eat in Aberystwyth - it won't take much searching to find one.
N. W. L.
Plenty of outside seating outside, food a bit hit n miss
J. c.
The dinner we had there was fairly priced and very good. The drinks, although on the higher end of pricing we're still ok. The service there was again good but nothing special. There is a friendly atmosphere there to compliment your food and a park for the children to play on.
W. O.
Good food at a reasonable price
R. L.
Food was nice but when I booked for a meal with my family and kids and I asked for a quiet area but then they stick u in the kids area right under a speaker playing music with the kids area full at that time and couldn't hear myself think let alone have a conversation with my family. We had a lemonade which was not nice to taste but they changed it as they said it must of been a bad one (the staff checked I wasn't lying by trying it from the tap and said it was a bad batch). They replaced it but it was just as bad.
T. C.
Nice looking pub ran out of buns for burgers on our visit and not offered any discount for having them without buns. Tea a disappointment as it was tea bags in tiny silver pot not the French press we normally get at the Hopwood.
Slightly disappointing experience.

Nice environment, plenty of parking available, decent outside seating areas and the service was prompt. For me though the price of the food was not reflected in the quality. Very much freezer to fryer style with the emphasis on rotisserie chicken. Even the curries are chicken stripped from the carcass with the sauce poured over. Very much like a Weatherspoons, but twice the price and far less choice. It reminded me a little of the ready meals section in a supermarket. Pulled pork, ribs, piri-piri, buttermilk chicken, burgers etc. The three stars is more a reflection of my tastes. There was nothing wrong with the place, it just lacked a 'unique selling point.'

The general atmostphere was very pleasant and all the staff who served us were very friendly and helpful, especially a young waiter named Callum from Blackwood, who had only started 3 weeks ago

Good pub grub at a good price. A couple of small play areas for the kids. Would have been 5 stars but I really fancied a roast dinner and they had sold out.

Its a typical branded pub, sometimes understaffed causing minor irritations, wouldn't become a regular there but would pop in occasionally. Staff are friendly, drinks are good, food can be hit or miss.

Lovely food and a safe enviroment with great practices in place

Stayed as overnight guest, comfortable room, ample parking. Fantastic pub with excellent food but service was a little slow. Very reasonably priced overall, would benefit from a few more facilities (gym).

Absolutely fantastic time. Great staff are friendly and easily approachable. Made us feel very welcome. The room was well kept clean. I can't think of anything negative really. Laura was awesome!

Pub side super nice staff , really nice food cant ask for more been here in wales 4 days and this was the best evening meal we have had

Very friendly great food

The service was quick and welcoming as always, and the food was excellent. The only problem we had was that some of our drinks were not in stock, but otherwise we enjoyed our visit.

Nice place to stay just close enough to get around. Good prices food. Rooms very nice but there was no draw space in our room and only one socket but the bed is very comfy. Nice breakfast just had to wait a little because of staff training .

Popped in for a drink this time, quiet and friendly. Have eaten there in the past and food quality can vary from excellent to very poor. Service always very good though.

Nice and clean place staff friendly but last time we went we had to wait to be seen by a waitress which was over 10 mins after been shown our table.
Food is always good and nicely priced

Food was fantastic. Service was not. Took a very long time for the waitress to take our order and for drinks to be brought to the table. The waitress also kept dissappearing when she was required.

Slight error with order, which was corrected. Food was a little slow but was clearly cooked from scratch, which is better than certain other chains and should look on that as a plus. Very tasty, was decent quality and we all enjoyed it

Meals generally ok. Priced generally ok to. Great area for dogs but u would need to book as not alot of room for many dogs. Payment at the bar when ordering but can have a tab.

It's a good alternative to the town central pubs and gastropubs. The vegetarian food is always tasty but variety isn't overwhelming and luckily their halloumi burger is solidly nice! The cider is wet, cold and alcoholic. They seem to sell an ok range of non alcoholic beer, cider and mocktails.good parking and access, beer garden and play area for littles. Never struggled to get a table or seat even on Friday and Saturday nights as there are loads of them. Slightly confusing food ordering system of table service vs ordering at the bar but on the whole, a comfy pub with comfy food and drinks. I've not stayed at accommodation so review based on pubside only.

We visited the starling cloud today for sunday lunch, the food was delicious especially the cauliflower cheese, that was to due for, we were also really impressed with thier covid19 system, we felt safe and the instructions given were explained clearly and promptly, our waitress Phoebe was very cheerful and gave us a good, fast service, all in all very good experience and would highly recommend this place

The prices were reasonable. Staff working very hard but seemed to be insufficient hands so service very slow. I do not recommend the meat pie unless you bring a hammer and chiseled. Scampi was good
C. T.
Very nice establishment. Lovely deco inside. The new staff lately have been brilliant. Food was good. Always room for improvement. But all in all I'd go again

Nice venue and food is always good, unfortunately the Hobgoblin Ruby and Gold wasn't up to standard.

Check in was very simple out-of-hours on a Sunday day since there is a night porter. The rooms are basic but very clean and comfortable. Plenty of free parking out the front too. Overall a very pleasant stay!

New hotel nice and clean. Reasonable food. Modern rooms.

Although very quiet when we went we had to wait ages for the food we ordered, having said that the food when it eventually came was fine, would we go again, possibly as perhaps our experience was not typical so would give them another try.

The food was very nice for the price paid. The burger I had was cooked too much but except for that it was very tasty, and the overall appearance of the pub was clean and professional.

Great place to eat and drink. Always welcoming. Very good with covid. Great service. Hotel is really nice. Really lovely beds to sleep on. Best night sleep!!!

Thinking that the accommodation was within the pub it's self upon arrival I was pleasantly supprised to find it was detached from the pub. A bit like a premium inn with a beefeater.
PersonallyI would go one better as say it was as good as a Premier Inn. The bathroom linen was supplied from the same company Afonwen which in my opinion was much better.
Breakfast is served from 0700hrs in the morning which is brilliant for the working man on the road.

Me and partner went to stealing cloud on 19th of November on a Sunday late afternoon. My food was lovley and my parents food was not the best. Good was served quickly and the staff was lovely and polite. Location is just outside the town centre witch is nice and cailm envirinment

Good stay overall, we were warned in advance about a possible problem with the hot water (and given a discount to compensate), but it didn't cause us a significant problem. Comfortable bed, friendly staff, good breakfast.

Standard Marstons pub with pub food.
Stayed in the hotel that is adjacent to the pub area. Rooms are adequate and clean. Breakfast included in the room rates although when hotel is busy the kitchen seems to struggle at breakfast time. Had a 40 minute wait for a bacon sandwich !!

The food here is reasonably priced, service is quick and we always enjoy a meal out here. There are good facilities for children but these are also easily avoidable if you'd prefer!

Excellent service and food not the normal pub food Excellent.
Garlic mushrooms with hot bread delicious 😋

The food was pretty good. We had to ask for cutlery as it wasn't brought to us.
C. C.
Excellent food, only let down was the length of time it took to arrive. Just over an hour from the point of ordering to the arrival of food on the table. If you have time to wait - I’d definitely recommend a visit.

Only had drinks there this time but have eaten before. Lovely meal. Well mannered courteous staff always happy to help

Reasonable food on hot ♨ plates.
Pleasant waitress,
Lost 1 🌟 because Disabled ♿ toilet blocked, unusable. Will go there again, Are visit was in the late afternoon, it was quite, didn't wait long for food to be served.

Very friendly and helpful staff, food was very reasonable priced and our room was clean and tidy. If in the area again we shall definitely be returning!

1 week after lockdown restrictions were eased, a visit to Wales with the wife and daughter was on the cards. Booked here as it was close to Aberaeron and Aberystwyth was a perfect stopover. Rooms at the Inn were clean and spacious. Aircon worked beautifully. Bed and sofabed comfy enough after a long day. Towels very soft and fluffy. Only gripe was the lack of information in the room without having to contact to reception at the pub next door. No food at the pub due to staff in isolation but the manager on duty did call on the morning of the booking and notified us of the situation so we could plan ahead for dinner that night. Considering the last 2 yrs of a global pandemic, this is welcome break and an ideal location. Weather has been kind too for a short break.

Reasonably priced family friendly food and drink. Great staff.

Lovely overnight stay, very comfy.
Food was decent too 👍

You can't go wrong with 2 meals for £10! The food was tasty and hot, the staff were friendly and helpful... Not overly speedy but it was busy
D. H.
An ideal place to stop and have a good night sleep. The food is good but nothing special. It's what you would expect from a place like this. Have visited and stayed several times.
