After a day's sailing it's a great little pub to relax at. It was a shame there was no food available but the bar snacks and chocolate were appreciated. It was very busy when we went but you always felt welcome and not overwhelmed.

Lovely old pub situated on the island of Piel. I has an interesting display cabinet showing lots of different items. Prices are very competitive. Lots of people camping and the ruins of the old castle close by to wounder round

Although The Ship doesn't look very glamorous the landlords were very friendly & the food was top notch. Delicious fish & chips & mussels & the best veggie breakfast I've ever had.

Magical little pub on a magical little island..pub shuts for winter but what a place to go in the summer..camp or stay in the ship inn..ideal adventure for kids and grown ups alike..

Glad to see this place is open again and decent Ulverston Ales. Friendly landlord who seems to be keeping the place spick and span.

went today, the island is a lovely place to visit. had the fish and chips, the batter was a little thick but very crunchie so combined with the thick chips was very nice, if i was going to mark it 5 stars they would need slightly more mushy peas, a few more chips and a slice of butterd bread but a solid 3 cant be ignored if your heading to the island.

The staff were just settling in to the new environment. They were really helpful and polite. I had a lovely vegetarian curry with rice and popadum. Tasted great. Really enjoyed the pub.

Lovely pub- especially on a sunny day.
About to have new tenants at time of writing, so can't comment on food/service etc as yet!

Loved the place will defo go again

We enjoyed our food there, I went for the veg barbeque and my wife went for a meat one, we would highly recommend those. Parents went for potted Morcambe Bay shrimp and loved it. Food for kids had no complaints either.
I've been going to Piel for nearly 50 years and have seen a lot of changes (and a lot of lock ins in the Ship), but am happy to see many people coming to enjoy it. I was impressed by the current manager who had to deal with a Karen who seemed to want to complain about everything they had received and demanding full refund and free drinks (personally I think she was a chancer and her complaints were weak at best). Anyway, the manager dealt with it in a very professional manner and without any blood being spilled.

I love this pub with a rich background history!
dishes are good and beers amazing

Nice old fashioned pub, nicely located, but none of the draft beers were on and the food was mediocre, they could do so much more with the place

The Piel Island beer and fish and chips were amazing! Really good, friendly service, and a great day watching the sea. Would really recommend!

Lovely, friendly staff and great food!

Great pub with a selection of real ales from the Ulverston Brewery. Snacks available but can get busy in the summer months with a couple of hundred people turning up on a guided walk across the sands or 10 people turning up from the ferry! They cope very well under the circumstances!

Fish and chips were amazing. Friendly staff, amazing location. I wouldn't like to take a shower though if I was camping on Piel, shower in toilet block looked so dirty, green mould and filth everywhere.

Quirky pub located on an island reachable by ferry. Friendly staff. 2 real ales brewed specially for the pub. Good quality food, large portions.

Great place. We camped out for the night and had a meal at the pub. Great variety of vegetarian options. Nice to just go somewhere a bit different!

Busy place, especially when England v Sweden playing that afternoon, pub prepared for a full house.Friendly staff, food delivered quickly...ordered Stilton burger, but burger itself not good, tasted like cooked from frozen, not fresh.Asked for side portion of piri piri skinny fries, good portion but way too much spice thrown in s clump on the top.Not saying another choice from the menu would be the sane standard, was just disappointed. The island itself was well worth the trip over, amazing 14th century Abbots castle, camping for £5 per night behind the pub,,fabulous scenery, lots if fresh air... Don't miss out on a great couple if hours there

Excellent food and huge portions at a good price. The good price short fiery ride and a short walk round the island made it a adventure for the kids.
