I. J.If you are looking for a vibrant environment with uplifting music or if you are just looking for a relaxed lunch, you can have both.
We entered, asked for a quiet table, which we got and enjoyed our lunch. Very friendly staff, warm and inviting decorations, food and drinks arrived quickly. The food was simple pub food but very delicious. Sometimes simple food well executed is the way to go. But the chef could be more brave and try something new, I’m sure it would be amazing. :)

Firstly, we arrived and the light switch was not working in the room, it was really quickly rectified by the gentleman that I spoke to.
The staff were all super accommodating the whole weekend, especially as we rushed around getting ready for the wedding, even opening the bar for us a little early so we could have a drink before walking to the church.
The rooms are great, especially in summer as they are right next to the beer garden!
The food here is also fantastic, I really can't say anything bad about the bar or hotel side of this business at all.
Thank you for having us all! It was a great weekend. Will definitely stay again.

I had pizza, my guests chose sea-bream and burgers.
I have rule that on this day I broke. Only order speciality foods from specialist restaraunts i.e. curry from an Indian restaurant, noodles from a Chinese restaurant and in this case pizza from a Pizzeria.
The secret to a good pizza is the base, unfortunately this one was doughy and bland, I ate about a slice and lost my appetite for the rest. If it wasn't for the fact that the pizza boasted one of my favourite toppings, Njuda sausage, I would have selected the sea-bream.
My guests saw my dissatisfaction and offered me sample bites from their dishes. The sea-bream was a large fillet and the cream sauce was delicately flavoured, the burger was meaty and succulent, looks like the pizza was the only disappointing dish.
The waitress while clearing the table, offered to box my leftover pizza for take-away. When I declined and relayed her my experience, she hurried off and spoke to the manager.
Without any quibbling, the manager deducted the cost of the pizza from my bill; top marks for customer service.
Overall a pleasent experience.
S. B.Really spacious and well appointed. Loads of different areas to eat and drink in. Food is great - generous portions and very tasty. Pizzas have a light base and interesting toppings, and the lamb burger is a class act.
Staff are attentive, and took great care of our 18 month old nephew.
It's obvious that there's been a lot of investment in this pub, and in all the right places.

S. P.Great country pub, good selection of beers and wine. Food is very tasty, especially the steak and ale pie. Menu is a little limited for the repeat customer, but would recommend a visit. Outdoor seating area is nice too. Also has a decent sized car park too.
M. H.Stayed overnight for a family wedding nearby. We took up 3 rooms between us all and they were all spotless, gorgeous and very comfortably furnished. We struggled to persuade the kids to leave the room and go home! Very much enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back the next time our Ampthill relatives are having a do.

S. I.I had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. The venue is well presented and there is plenty of parking. It didn't seem very busy but there did seem like quite a wait for the main course to be bought out. The portion sizes were generous, with the exception of the plaice. The service was fine, staff were polite. I did not find the seating very comfortable and it seemed quite cramped. The toilets were pristine and very well maintained.

S. b.When we first arrived at midday you were heaving but got shown through to a smallish table in the conservatory which we felt wasn't really appropriate for a Sunday lunch for 6 adults + it was chilly/ draughty , We asked to moved into the large room with a roaring log burner which the girl did do quickly and explained she would need table a little later so i assume she other bookings ? However the meal was fabulous and served in a very timely manner WARNING The Yorkshire pudding could be a starter on its own the beef was beautifully cooked as were the veg. Deserts were lovely as well, All round we felt a lovely place with a great family ambience. No doubt we will be back,

j. c.Just been for lunch. Service friendly. Menu would cater for most tastes. Wine list short, but varied enough to match the food served although the addition of dessert wine, even by the glass, might lift the end of the meal. (Monbazillac, Loupiac or Cerons are nice and are a bit more affordable than Sauternes).
Would have been a 5 stars only the balsamic vinegar used with the olive oil as a dip for bread was from the cheaper/sour end of the spectrum.

Great setting, good singer in the bar.
Great food which everyone enjoyed and polished off.
Only slight negative was after paying for a round of drinks at the bar we were still without them when a young waitress wanted to take our food order 20 minutes later.
We preferred to wait for our drinks and waited another 5 minutes before my daughter went to ask again and finding 3 of the staff slating us for being "awkward".
We understand entirely how difficult serving multiple tables can be and were not making a fuss at all.
We asked for more drinks after our meal and were offered 20 minutes to finish as table was booked for another sitting. Again understandable...they knocked a bottle of prosecco off the bill , not really necessary but very kind of them .
Staff very friendly... wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

J. F.Excellent food, the pub went through a renovation a few years ago and is very nice. Since COVID there have been changes to the outdoor seating which gives plenty of space on days when inside is full and it's not too chilly outside - there are heaters at many of the tables. The team are friendly and attentive. We often go across for birthdays and when friends come to the area as we know we will be well looked after. Nice wine list and good selection of gins.

G. H.My meal was delish but my wife and son both had the roast, they both said that they would not have it again. I had a fish and chips and can honestly say it was absolutely spot on. Staff were very friendly too. Wife's roast potatoes were sost and not how they should have been. We will give it another go soon, just to be sure.

S.The interior is lovely and great atmosphere inside, but I found the food options are not the best for vegetarians and vegans (there were not enough options and too many with mushrooms which was quite same-same). They didn't have the veggie option of one of the pastas when we visited only the vegan but I found it quite dry and tasteless.

C.A group of 8 us attended this extremely well presented venue on new year's eve to welcome in the new year, 2022! I have been many times to the George and it doesn't disappoint. On arrival we were greeted by the lovely Ola, who showed us to our table for our prosecco and to introduce us to our waitress.
The starters were sharing starters that were great, especially the fish cakes. Then followed our main meal which the majority of us had fillet steak, which was cooked to perfection. I usually have medium rare but everyone on the night was having medium and although I was jubious of having a medium steak, it turned out perfect. One of the steaks was over cooked, we made the waitress aware and a fresh steak cooked to perfection was brought out minutes later. For desert, again sharing, the choice was fantastic, brownies, bakewell, truffles, cheese and crakers and plenty to go around!
The service was great, very attentive and very polite. We all had a great evening. The owner even popped her head over to say hi which was a lovely touch!

D.Always like this place, food is always very good. Visited on first opening date in July after being closed due to lockdown. Only outside open which was good, but felt slightly uneasy due to staff not wearing masks and visors and sometimes waitress came a bit close to table. Other coronavirus rules were ok, asked to hand sanitise and one way system in place. Not sure if I will go back though due to no mask wearing.

The staff were fantastic and although the restaurant was extremely busy it wasn't too noisy and there was not a delay on any of our food or drinks. It was quite splendid! HIGHLY recommend staying over and eating.

I will definitely go back again for lunch or dinner to eat from the à la carte menu.

J. R.An authentic coaching Inn from the 18th century I'm guessing situated in Woburn High St Bedfordshire. Enjoyed the reality of the sloping floor in the bedroom. Obviously the rooms had been modernised to meet the needs of guests but the "Olde World" ambience prevailed. Very reasonable prices too. The proprietor David couldn't be more helpful and cooked us a wonderful breakfast.

M. C.Popped in for a late Sunday lunch. Our group opted for the Sunday roast. The beef option was very good and cooked pink, while the chicken option had good colour and was moist. Staff were very friendly, polite and efficient.
A. P.My only complaint would be that the kids plates were scolding hot which was not ideal for a two year old.

o. w.I had high hopes as only heard good reviews about this place. bar staff ignored us when walked in and stood at the bar for 10mins waiting to get served a drink. We got seated for our dinner to be told they don't do burgers which is what my other half wanted, but on the other table near us a gent who had a burger and chips. We had a roast in the end which was lovely there was a bit of a wait for. the owner came over and chatted to us which was nice.

W. B.The George is one of the best pubs in central beds, the menu is superb and always offer different craft beers and all sorts of gins. Not the cheapest pub in the world it is definitely a meal for a special occasion or for a treat! Staff are always friendly and always keep a high standard of customer service in busy times like friday nights

K. W.Could be very good but we stayed in room 1, supposedly suitable for disabled people, unfortunately there were no rails to aid movement to the toilet & the floor would prove dangerous when wet as it was not non slip, which in a "wet room" it should be.
This room is next to their laundry room and unless you want a very noisy washing machine to be running until 2.00 am, as we found, making it impossible to sleep, ensure you tell the staff to NOT use it during the night.
For what it is, aesthetically pleasing but somewhat impractical for a disabled person, slightly expensive as well.

I.Had a lovely lunch today with my wife and daughter.It was the first time I had been to this pub and what a gem it is.We were made very welcome by well informed staff who were attentive but not pushy.The lunchtime menu was varied and typical of good pub food.My wife and I had home made steak and ale pie,mash and veg., and my daughter had rump steak and all the trimmings,and their were there empty plates when we were finished.We will definitely be going back and will recommend to others.

Room clean, quiet - everything you need. No wardrobe, but possibility to hang clothes. Blow-drying not possible in the bathroom, but at the desk (with mirror) There is also a mobile cosmetic mirror (magnifying mirror)
