D. L.Traditional live music, reasonable prices, and the friendliest patrons and staff make it a busy haven for a great night at a Pub. At first the experience can overtake you a bit with the loud bustling of locals chatting about their lives mixed with loud music and a packed house, but once you dive into it and strike up a conversation with anyone you're bound to have a great time. Carlsberg is just one of my personal favorites, and back home in the United States I've found it hard to find on tap so that was my beer of choice. The Guinness is highly praised here though as the freshest Guiness you will find due to the small amount of travel from brewery to your hand. Absolutely recommend!

P. U.Lovely Irish bar with a great atmosphere, perfect Guiness. We went for just a beer and stayed there for six beers and some whisky shots. If you go to Belfast, you have to visit Maddens, to take a beer there, to listen live music there and to relax with great people there.

C. B.My sister and I wondered in on a Tuesday night. Irish live music. General feel of the pub was authentic, friendly and cosy. Drinks were reasonably priced. Overall though the best thing about this place was the bar man Barney. He was hilarious and genuinely just a top fella! Was sad that we found this place so late in our trip but will definitely be back during our next visit!

S. L.If you don't check out Maddens, forget checking out the rest of NI. Good range of drinks for good prices, but what really makes the place is the staff and regulars they have. The staff are excellent, happy to have a chat and with a good knowledge of their products, the real story here is the crack you'll have with the locals, or just a quiet pint you'll have to yourself listening to the trad musicians. A very friendly, open& tolerant atmosphere, and if you speak a bit of Irish so much the better!

M. M. C.This is an amazing wee bar, you get such a warm feeling when you are sitting enjoying a lovely pint. This is a very popular spot for tourists as well and you meet people from all over the world in here. There is always live music and on a monday night you can bring your own instrument down and jam with everybody. Everyone is so friendly and have never had a bad experience in this bar. Would recommend this place to anybody.

Real Irish music (traditional) played and sung by the patrons, a pub atmosphere, Irish culture, language, jokes, beer, lads, lasses, Republican sympathies. Have to be buzzed in to get in. Once you're in you're family and home. They will spot you a mile away if you're not a local, but will welcome you like family anyway. The BEST pub in Belfast. It's a small place so be prepared to be close to the person having a pint next to you. Also expect that person to be Irish. What a wonderful night. The music was lively, real, genuine, Irish music. We're going back tomorrow after the Belfast Opera house. It was so wonderful. We looked far and wide and must have asked about ten folks for authentic Irish music. Maddens is it.

M. K.Amazing and authentic Irish pub. Lovely and familiary atmosphere. The bar tender and the regulars are amazing musicians. They have jam sessions with old and traditional, but also with new and modern songs. Someone was even playing Eminem on violin. I would go there every week if I would live here. They have all kinds of drinks, a small selection of snacks and an ATM, because you can just pay cash. If you want to go in, you need to ring the door. So it doesn't mean, that it's closed for public, when the door is looked. Go to maddens and come back with a smile! 🍀

Great band and jaw-dropping guitar playing. Usual Belfast drink selection and a friendly crowd on both occasions that copes with being packed in to a tiny space.

M. M.Great traditional Irish bar. Friendly and relaxing with great barstaff and the best Guinness in Belfast. You need to ring the bell and wait to be let in, a reminder of Belfast's darker past. Inside the walls are decorated with Republican and socialist memorabilia as well as reminders of current struggles, Palestinian flags and the Irish Language. In the evenings there are traditional Irish music sessions. I would highly recommend a visit to this cosy pub, and did I mention that the Guinness is great?

Exactly what you want an Irish drinking hole to be, every pint is £3.60 which is fair for a city pub and it means you can try everything without being held back by the price differences. Barney is an absolute king of a landlord and makes you feel really welcome. Random Irish bands doing practice in the corner of the pub, 10/10 go there and get hammered
