Reviews of McHughs Bar and Restaurant
H. A.
What an excellent experience. Beautiful building, fantastic food, friendly and attentive staff and brilliant value for money. I had the boxty. I wondered if it would be big enough as I was starving. No fear of me leaving with any room in my belly. Others in party had steak, good deals on some night for 2 dishes. Saved £8. Great place, a must if in Belfast
E. B.
Lovely little pub, it is quite small here and we were lucky to get a table.
Great atmosphere, very lively with Live music.
C. F.
We love this place. Dont miss an opportunity to eat a Boxty (see photo) and have a pint of Clonmel. Great traditional atmosphere and live local musicians make this a go to place every time
K. B.
We recently visited for food and drinks. Staff were very accommodating. The food was good quality, my husband particularly enjoyed the rib eye steak on the block. It was one of the best steaks he has had for a long time. Well priced, especially considering the historical story behind the building (being the oldest in Belfast). Overall would definitely recommend.
B. A.
Surprisingly good pub food. Great ambiance. Only one table with loud Americans but other than that, a good spot to park your kiester for a spell.
B. B.
Brilliant boxty accompanied by classic Irish tunes. This is the pub lunch I’ve been waiting for these past two years.
B. D.
I'd recommend this bar to anyone as this bar goes above and beyond to make sure customers are having a wonderful time.
Plenty of Entertainment and Excellent quality of food.
Drink prices fair considering you're in the town centre
Nothing bad whatsoever to say at all about this bar/restaurant.

I visited McHughs today for the first time in several years. I just wanted to give my thoughts on the positive experience I had. I came in at 12:30pm on a Saturday the week the third lockdown ended and it was relatively quiet inside. Most people enjoying their beer outside in the sun. I came in for some food and I was quickly brought to my table and served my drink. The burger and chips (the chunky style) came to a cost of £14 or there abouts. Some people might say this is expensive but the food was really top quality. The beef was very fresh, thick and succulent. I enjoyed it very much and well the chips were delicious. People came over to me once of twice to ask if I needed anything and were never slow in doing anything. The staff were lovely. I definitely would go again. I love this part of the city centre beside the Albert clock and the Big Fish. So yeah I have nothing but good things to say.

Had a great meal here, we were in a large group and nothing was too much bother for the staff who were all great, would highly recommend for a meal. We had a few beers afterwards and the music was also very good, will return next time we're in Belfast
G. L.
Superb service and food. They serve belfast black which in my opinion is 10x better than guiness. The food was top notch. Steve and finula were excellent hosts. Found my new favourite place in Belfast.
J. W.
Just had the steak on a stone meal both myself and partner enjoyed it and we couldn’t finish the chips or onion rings as we were full from eating the steak . This is a great pub offering excellent service and food would recommend it
A. D.
Fantastic atmosphere along with friendly staff they have a great menu it's perfect for a Saturday afternoon outing, also the best door staff in Belfast funny guy's it's definitely worth a visit.
B. B.
Cool old bar with lots of history! We did not eat there but the guide we were with says it is good but takes time to get you food.
M. L.
Amazing food fantastic live band and the service is first class very friend the atmosphere was wonderful you dont leave you just want to stay and not move

I came here to try Boxty (for the first time) and I was pleasantly surprised. It was delicious. I also had a 1711 coffee (with whiskey and tia maria in it) and that was really great too. And everything was affordable.
W. S.
Fun pub, old world style, with nice selection of beers and lical talent performing traditional Irish music. This evening we had a flutist and some old style stringed instrument. Certainly got the crowd singing! Only drawback is the high prices but I guess that should be expected in that area given it's historic value.
A. T.
Great atmosphere and history. Meals were delicious and filling!
J. G.
Nice bar, friendly staff. Portion size is very poor. Out of four meals only one was substantial - burger and chips, probably due to the bun. Two portions of boxty with a very small amount of turkey and ham and a potato cake. The other meal was chicken and leek pie, again a small portion. Would go back for a drink but definitely wouldn't eat there again as I was still hungry and had to cook something when I got home.
J. J.
Good spot. Great Guinness. Staff sorted out table for 5 during Covid regs and waiters always attentive. Not 5 out of 5 because idont normally give that. Recommend
T. B. (. H.
Drinks before the Belfast Giants ice hockey game... its close to and just a quick walk across the Lagan... friendly staff and big screens in the bar showing live sporting events... good atmosphere
C. J.
Only ever stopped for a quick drink after an evening walk but very friendly staff and a great proper pub. Pop in, the food smells good too!
R. B.
Fish & chips were excellent. Irish stew was good but could do with more lamb & less potatoes. The atmosphere was great & bar staff were very nice.
l. b.
Great atmosphere and a good selection of alcohol. Friendly staff.
D. A.
How could you pass up the opportunity to have a Guiness in a pub which was founded 59 years before James Cook visited Australia. Fantastic little pub with great food, drink and atmosphere. The bar staff are friendly and conversational. Will take a great memory home with me to Australia.
K. B.
Lovely establishment, quite large so plenty of room. Great patio outside facing the square. Fantastic service, really great food and cold pints.
G. C.
Great wee bar. Serve good pub grub too
J. A.
Amazing, amazing place. Oldest building in Belfast with lots of character, great service, and the food is to die for. Get the boxty and a pie as well! (We had chicken and leek)
A. L.
One of the famous pubs that get recommended when tourists ask for "Where can we go out this evening and experience a little bit of Belfast?". The building is quite interesting with old vintage interior (and I understood it has an interesting historical past), staff is friendly and the prices moderately expensive. If you come in early let's say, around 20 pm is quite empty and relaxed. Later it gets crowded and you can even bump into a live performance of a local band, like we did. I must say though, the atmosphere was not as lively as we expected. The age average is quite high. After 1 beer we decided we want to experience something else.
K. D.
Titanic hotel could not feed us even though we were staying there. Lovely lady from Mayo looked after us in McHughs
C. M.
Excellent services and people. You must go here if you want to eat the best meal in Belfast
P. D.
Great pub with delicious food. Staff very friendly and helpful xx
J. B.
We came here after recommendation of our city guide at the end of a city walking. The place is picturesque but the chowder was just ok and the service appalling ( we had to get our own cutlery from the bar after the food was served and we waited ages for the bill.) I understand it is a pub and not a fine dining restaurant but I still expect to have cutlery on the table when my food is served.
K. B.
Excellent food and great prices for the UK. I had the steak on hot stone, with whiskey sauce, I quite enjoyed that! Be beware of overcooking, especially since it continues to cook as the steak cools. The toffee pudding was good but we've had much better ones in other restaurants. Nice atmosphere.
A. S.
Absolutely love this bar. I try and go for a few pints in it as much as I can 👍👍
T. S.
Great food and great beer and whiskey. One of the oldest pubs in Belfast.
M. Q.
Fun pub with lots of character and history right in the heart of the Belfast tourist area. Has a bit of outdoor seating which is fun if there is a nice sunny afternoon to enjoy a pint!
S. M.
Food and service excellent, busy bar but found a table no problem.
D. S.
The live music was great , food and drink all very nice x
D. R.
Great pub with brilliant live music and atmosphere.
The building retained it's original architectural features which makes it unique. It can get quite busy on Saturday nights. It would be good if they served any snacks to go with beers
j. h.
No words. Simply old world charm, authentic bar, terrific food, and pleasant service. Located near the clock tower on tje plaza
C. W.
Great food and service, live music at the weekend is really good and a great pint of Guiness!
c. M. g.
It's a great pub, good staff and service, a great atmosphere and I have got some great music sessions.
G. F.
Cool looking pub with good guiness. Food was just ok. Good for a one-time visit.
J. F.
Excellent selection of whiskeys! I must try the upstairs restaurant sometime.
B. K.
Good Irish pub, trad music on Sundays. Nice staff, good beer
V.
Such a unique place to eat. Our steaks were cooked on lava rocks and are brought to the table still cooking. It was really amazing and delicious! Our dessert was a salted Carmel cheese cake.... OMG!!!
P. N.
Had lunch right here when i traveled to belfast city. Food tasted good and still have affordable price.. nice place.
M. T.
Nice bar, good food, toilets a bit iffy to say the least, not nice.

Right Across the street. Nice place to have a moment.
E. B.
Easy to find a table, good choice of drinks, great service
G. M.
Nice bar. 300 years old! Great selection of beers upstairs.
D. T.
Fab atmosphere, lovely staff, great food, thoroughly recommend.

We had a boys reunion here recently. Food and service was very good. The bar staff on the day where very helpful with our requirements. We will be back. Updated as of 12.03.2022 It's been a long 2 years but Mchughs is still a great pub with friendly atmosphere, good food and service. There is live music as well. One of the better well run pubs in Belfast near the Big Fish. Prices are reasonable too. The management are doing a great job for the patrons. WC was clean as before. Good standards all round and security good. Great enjoyment can be had. Will be back! Thanks Eileen and Catherine!
D. B.
Proper pub, good food, friendly staff. Will definitely visit again.
S. A.
Another good Irish bar. Simple and basic no fuss main bar interior, with elegant upstairs eating only area. It can be a little dark in parts of the bar. Venue was very popular, and tables weren't cleared during the hour we spent there.
Live music is played here. Ale selection was reasonable, plenty of choices, just nothing to my liking.
C. H.
Lovely Irish trad music on both Saturday at 3 and Sunday at 4 means I'm there all weekend!!
D. P.
Nice place to hang and drink. Just wish I was able to eat here.
R. D.
Friendly bar, great atmosphere for the sports. Plenty of TV dotted around the place
L. C. (.
Amazing place, very friendly for out of town folk, and a great atmosphere highly recommended 👍
R. T.
Brilliant atmosphere, staff excellent, food was magnificent. Well done
G. S.
Friendly staff are very welcoming in this traditional setting of a pub. The seating is spacious and relaxed and it's easy to spend a few hours drinking here.
B. C.
Busy on a Friday afternoon and the Guinness takes ages to settle which is usually a good sign.
A. B.
Staff are great and great selection of beverages - I hear food is also great :)
B. M.
Amazing building. Great staff. outstanding food.
O. K.
Came into Belfast for a Giant's game, and stopped in here for a pint and a bite with friends. Cold Guinness, live music, good food, great craic. Must do this again. If you're nearby, stop in, say hi.
Z. K.
Super cosy, nice decor, great drinks and good people
E. M.
Some of the best pints of Guinness in Belfast. Cold and creamy! Superb bar just outside mainstream Cathedral Quarter.
T.
First proper watering hole after the Titanic and Belfast‘s oldest building to boot. Relatively affordable for drinks , too.
H. H.
Great food friendly staff and good music
R. G.
Lovely place not far from the Titanic exhibition. Belfast Black to be recommended. Service and food excellent, veg cooked to perfection.
T. C.
The oldest pub in Belfast- super food, drink and atmosphere
B. B.
Hot stone steaks are a must have. Can't complain about how they are cooked as you do it yourself.
C. E.
One of the creamiest pints I've ever had! Great Guinness
J. G.
Amazing hospitality and great Belfast lager and bushmills whisky
G. M.
Excellent food and excellent service definitely be back soon
E. R.
Great place to have food and a beer. The prices are good, specially considering the high quality of the food, it was absolutely delicious and well prepared. The staff was very friendly, and the place is gorgeous.
T. F.
Had a great night in McHughs last night, couldn't ask for more from the staff, quick and friendly service all night, especially the 2 bouncers on the door that were so sound and made sure we knew how to get back to our hotel safely! We will definetly be back to visit again.
A. S.
Had a meal in the restaurant on Saturday evening, the food was delicious & the staff were really friendly, id highly recommended the fillet steak
J. M.
Loved this place. Great modern Irish food and lovely friendly staff who could not do enough

Absolutely brilliant. Has been an amazing experience gorgeous food brilliant staff .very friendly

It is one of the 5 oldest houses in Belfast. A really nice place to be. In the basement there are sometimes concerts! The stuff is very friendly!
p. d.
Visited Mchughs 2day 4 bite of dinner. Absolutely beautiful food. 3 of us, all of us had a different boxxie i think they were called. I had the chicken 1, really tasty. Next time I'll have a chip along with it. And thanks 2 the nice staff as well, it was a nice relaxing hour
P. G.
Nice bar, lovely decoration in keeping with its status as the oldest building in Belfast. Fast free wifi too.
K. G.
A 1711 AD pub, offering some classic Irish beers. Superb ambience and great hosts / bartenders. Must visit for beer / Irish pub lovers.
J.
Lovely pint of Guinness, poured in adequate time. Nice to sit outside. Prefer lower seats which are available all taken though so no complaints.
D. G.
A lovely wee pub in Belfasts Cathedral Qurter, reasonably prices and great atmosphere well.worth alist.
J. M.
Called in for lunch ,Guinness nice , fish and chips as bad as you’d wish for , never seen/tasted such stodgy undercooked batter , hope it’s improved since my visit !
T. C.
Food ooked to perfection.staff were perfect and very helpful.
Q. C.
Very helpful staff, reminding me the existence of cashback which i hadn't used for ages. Nice drinks, excellent service and good food, even if a bit pricey (as many restaurants in Belfast). Their Boxty was perfect to get along the drink.
p. b.
Nice bar fantastic food.friendly
A. K.
Went for one drink big place was ok
Y. S.
Nice pub with good choice of beer. Clonmel Irish lager highly recommend! Unfortunately, kitchen is closed after 6 PM.

Great atmosphere, food and drink.

Popped in here for dinner before going to the ice hockey, I was hoping for a quick meal to tie me over, it just happened to be amazing!
Highly recommended, very nice and friendly bar staff, live music, never had a steak before on a hot rock to cook yourself. Love it! 5 stars will go again!
W. M.
Always a decent place for a few beverages
B. P.
Very good. Well worth a visit.
R. H.
Staff very friendly and attentive. Good selection of draught beers at reasonable prices. Food passable, will be back.
M. D.
Enjoyed lunch.. food and staff amazing
G. R.
Great atmosphere, fantastic food and a lovely pint of guinness.
D. H.
Nice prices and setting although quite quiet
D. G.
Good atmosphere and seating, prices are a tiny bit steep but that's Belfast. Overall good experience.
s. n.
Lovely outdoor seating and great Guinness.
Staff polite and hard working. Not normally my spot to drink but was walking about and it was sunny so stopped in and will definitely be back again many times.
P. M.
Enjoyed the outside seating and a perfect pint.
A. L.
Great night and brilliant staff
G. R.
♿️✅ easy to enter with wide doors, easy and open seating plan inside and out.
Came here after a walk along the river, easy to order and staff were great to chat to. Poured Guinness perfectly as well and brought it to our tables. Great spots outside for the brief moments of sunshine.
C. N.
Oldest pub in Belfast. Great ambience.
L. F.
Staff were very helpful. They were friendly and stayed open after the game. With it going to extra time and pens it made a late night. Thanks all.
C. M.
Not sure why I thought this was a quiet traditional pub - but as it turns out - it isn't really. Sat night is really busy with a few rowdy patrons among the more more normal ones. A few unfamiliar beers on tap which is good but some expected ones missing. Although there are a good number of seats in the downstairs, most were taken so I had to stand until some became available.
I wouldn't mind going back but it wouldn't be close to top of my list either.
J. M.
Great atmosphere and a fantastic steak. Staff are friendly and helpful.
p. c.
A proper old pub with great atmosphere and service.
Food was spot on. Try the home made pie of the day. We had chicken leek and bacon with mash top. Delicious. Only 15minutes walk from the Titanic centre right next to the dock. We eat here when we visit Belfast.
N. B.
Hubby had a pint of Magners on a walking tour to cool off because it was a hot and sunny day!
B. H.
Solid spot. Good food, fast service and friendly staff. Had my work Christmas party here recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great location but can't comment on value for money!! Will be back! Highly recommended!
K. (.
The fish and chips are the best I've had so far! The mushroom soup was ok. I wouldn't order it again. The bread was good and the ambience was great. Its said this is the oldest building in Belfast! I highly recommend this place!
D. B.
Great food, attentive staff and a good atmosphere
A. H.
Belfast lager. I could leave it at that but it's a proper olde world place which seems pretty popular with the local lunchtime office crew.
N. H.
Lovely bar with friendly staff.
P. M.
Fabulous food, great service
R. O.
We enjoyed a Sunday afternoon session as part of our wedding festivities. The staff were extremely friendly and the food was very tasty. Our Australian guests enjoyed a taste of a true Irish pub and session.
S. D.
Great drink, great food and great craic. Will be back soon.
P. G.
Traditional bar in Belfast's oldest building so plenty of atmosphere. A good range of beers and the food menu has something for everyone although I haven't eaten here in a while. Friendly staff, a good core of regulars and I never go too long between visits.
Live music features regularly and the cellar bar is a great venue for private parties. Recommended!
E. S.
This was a great place to eat situated in a great part of Belfast. It is right by the Clock Tower and the Big Fish. The flavors of the dishes were fantastic, but the portions were much smaller than I had thought they would be in respect to the prices. I ordered the Haddock Boxty and Eggy Bread for dessert. Our waitress was wonderfully kind and we were seated in the upstairs and could hear the live music from downstairs. The building that McHughs is in is also supposedly the oldest building in Belfast.
L. O. T. H.
Go for the old building vibe and beers, not the food. It's a beautiful building, supposedly the oldest in Belfast, and features a great interior. Unfortunately when we were there, they had a live band playing so loud that conversation on the first floor was almost impossible. Even when we got seated on the second floor for dinner, it was still hard to hear someone at the same table. Food was just okay. My steak and another person at our table were way overcooked. Steak wasn't even very tasty.
J. S.
This once sought after venue has become old and run down. Stiĺl has some great atmosphere and lovely staff.
Ordered boxy and got mashed potato, ordered non alcohol beer and got coke.
Not a great experience for our main lunch out with the kids.
D. H.
I've always liked this bar but noticed in the past while that the service hasn't been up to scratch. Was intending to stay for food the last time I visited but decided to give it a miss as it took 10 minutes for the bar person to pour me a flat pint. Wouldn't put me off going back but it has tainted the better memories I had of the place. Handy to the SSE arena so worth while calling in before or after a gig.
P. C.
Great pub very friendly staff and the people on the door even phoned me a taxi when I asked for one first class definitely worth a stop for a pint and a bite to eat 🍀🍺💚
C. L.
Great spot went here today after Pride great craic and atmosphere and good Guinness
M. M.
We're in Belfast for 3 days and found this place by chance. We're so glad we did.
Nice cosy bar.
Food- 10/10
Service- 10/10
Friendliness of staff 10/10
If your in Belfast definatly pay McHughs visit.
J.
Brilliant bar, nice atmosphere and amazing food
J. L.
Great pub atmosphere. Traditional Irish music played live in the background. Friendly staff with fine selection of traditional beers. Didn't have the food but it looked lovely. Portions not for the faint hearted.
A.
Nice pub near the river in Belfast and opposite Albert clock. Good beers and very nice atmosphere with live music every evening. It is placed in the oldest building in the city. There's a restaurant upstairs that serves good food.
N. K.
Awesome wings great craft beers! Great staff and the “local” (Paddy) is a great man. He’s been going 60 years to the counter. We will be back it should be there, after all it’s older than Austrialia!
G. H.
Always a good vibe to one of Belfast oldest watering holes.
Outdoor seating for the rare occasions of good weather and for smokers
The restaurant upstairs isn't bad. I'd recommend booking though. It's moderate prices means it's fairly popular
A. S.
Pub only as I haven't tried the restaurant... Always nice to meet up with friends and colleagues. Very friendly staff, great prices during happy hour and you can stand covered outside during a typical rainy night in Belfast 👍😉
D. M.
Nice Guinness. Good burger and friendly service. What more do you want.
D. H.
I passed McHughs on my first night and decided that I had to visit, on the name alone.
Visited the bar the first night, hoping to get food. I learned that I couldn't order food unless I was in the restaurant (upstairs), which was booked up all night; they seem to be very busy when a rugby game is on. Ordered a 3£ Guinness (game day price; not sure what it would normally cost), drank it, and left.
Came back the next night to get dinner in the restaurant. No problem getting in, we were the only table for the first hour that we were there (at 18:30 on a Sunday), and only a couple tables filled during our 2 hour visit.
Ordered the cheapest item, which was a 10.50£ burger. What an excellent choice! It was incredibly juicy and delicious.
Would have rated 5/5, but was served the wrong drink. I requested soda water, but received something sweet and slightly syrupy (but otherwise flavourless). This may have just been a problem with regional language differences. Otherwise, service was fine.
L. G.
Good place for a quiet drink and chill. Music played most nights and food is served till 8 upstairs. Near the square with live music through august and a quiet getaway from the main areas of Belfast
D. C.
Turned a miserable day into a good evening after Ice Hockey cancelled at the SSE Arena. Food was very good (especially the boxty) and the Guiness hit the spot. Also gave all the Panthers fans that had travelled over a discount.
M. L.
Nice food and drink. Very friendly staff.
h.
Super fun, lively and good people. The atmosphere was chilled and everyone was in good spirits! Only downside was the price of the drinks - my purse was significantly lighter when I woke up the following morning!
R. H.
Have fond memories of nights in Mc Hugh's, and good meals in restaurant upstairs. Also great gigs in the basement area...but that was a decade ago! Now I get the feeling of an absentee landlord, the place & staff have no direction, the little details are missing, no nuts or crisps at the bar, no candles on the tables, all these things and more bring punters back!
J. G.
Lovely pint of guiness and lovely food
M. M.
Craicin spot, really nice vibe about the place and the building itself has a alot of charachter to it. Very friendly staff and it attracts a good crowd. Does a good pint and has live music a few nights a week, would highly recommend. Their food is great too, proper feed - get yourself down. 🍀
O. S.
Loved the atmosphere. Traditional music played live which was awesome. I loved the food and the Irish beers. Friendly staff too. Must visit while in Belfast.
R. D.
It's a pub not a restaurant. OK for a drink, but not for food. Staff is slow or don't care to give menu or get your order. Noone cared, so I had to go to the bar and get a menu...and go back there to order. Food was good, served well and tasty. Service 0
L. R.
Best food, service, and atmosphere!!!!
M. S.
1st bar we went to every morning of our stag do awesome live music great service
j. p.
the place is nice, crowded. I like the 2nd floor dinning. the bar tender/waiter was very kind and helpful.
steak was great so was the fish and chips. price very reasonable
A. K.
for the staff behind the bar who are super friendly and attentive, they are polite and always do their best to give you the best service no matter how busy they are. Four stars; for how clean the bar usually is and how well regulars and tourists are spoken to.
C. S.
Amazing staff and great craic on a Sunday....
E. K.
Took nearly half an hour for a pair of burgers & not a word of apology for the delay despite the table next to us being seated, served & nearly finishing after we'd ordered. Also: didn't ask for a temp for theburgers, all well done. The burgers were good when they came though,
J. N.
Brilliant bar, friend staff and reasonable prices. Will be back
b.
Nice place. Bit dark. Food was delicious but a bit on the stingy side for some. The boxti would need something extra to make it worth the fairly high cost for some grated potato. Apart from that a good variety of beers and ciders.
C. A.
Great atmosphere and lots of lovely drink choices
C. B.
Only place I've found with a cask ale in town so far. Only have one mind you but it rotates frequently from what I can tell, so there's a decent selection. Bar food is good, they have a separate menu that they switch to after 6 pm and a full menu for the restaurant area.
V. S.
Stopped here at the end of our walking tour. It’s in a great location and has lots of outdoor seating which is perfect if you’re wanting to enjoy the sun! Prices are reasonable, staff are nice and it’s the oldest building in Belfast!
A. K.
Went for a Psycobilly night great night brilliant buzz
M. M.
Fantastic sweet chilli pulled pork boxty totally amazing. Fantastic staff really helpful and attentive. 2nd time here in 2 month s so must be good. Its also the oldest building in Belfast! Definitely worth a visit.
J. M.
What a find! We were visiting Belfast for the Maritime festival and this was the first place we found as we ventured out and I'm so glad we stopped here, great atmosphere, great selection of Beers, plus fantastic live music the night we were there and then we realised they do food as well, so we went upstairs and had the steak on the hot rock - just amazing and a novel way to eat steak - highly recommend.
A. H.
The Staff at Mchughs are friendly and the drinks were good with quick service, great experience all round.
D. R.
Awesome pub! Menu was great! Our bartender Malicky was so dang fun! Music while we were there was sooo awesome! Wish we could have stayed longer!
T. K.
Beautiful and ornate interior, restaurant was closed so we ordered the BBQ pulled pork and apple chutney boxty from the bar. The presentation was beautiful and the meal was delicious, service however was less than mediocre as the waitress was fairly unhelpful and less than personable and patient. Would return for the food but not the service.
J. M.
Great atmosphere. Beautiful Guinness. Food is good also. But gets busy. Friendly staff and good atmosphere. A great place to visit. A warm welcome is guaranteed. Friendly locals and visitors alike
k. s.
One of the oldest bar in Belfast. The crowd is very decent here always. I have found live music every time I visited this place. I love this one.
S. L.
Tasty food, lovely atmosphere
S. M.
The atmosphere inn this place is very comfortable. Dark woods surround you. Live music, and some delicious food! I heard that some actors from GOT hang out here when in town.
C. M.
Great wee spot for a quiet one however if you like carlsberg and harp then you will be disappointed because they don't sell it here but on the plus side they have clonmel on tap. Service can be quite slow at times but you will get service with a smile. Little bit pricey for a pint aswell
D. O.
Amazing food
Great prices
Very friendly staff
Great atmosphere
Highly recomend this place
The Gunness is amazing
S. O.
Great night, great venue, handy for buses. A tad understaffed.
R. w.
Great place food and drink spot on
A. R.
Oldest pub in Belfast. Great place to sit outside in the sun and people watch with a pint.
J. M.
Nice ambiance, beer and enjoyable food. Staff were very friendly and nice. Live music both evenings we were there. A constant flow of people in and out.
C. V.
We were walking by on our way to the Titanic museum, we noticed "Traditional Irish music" starting at 3.00 pm at McHughs. We made the decision to stop by for a pint after the museum. Sure glad we did. Try the bangers and Mash with your pint. A great experience.
F. K.
Good atmosphere, nice food and beers. Irish pubs are my favourite. If visiting Belfast, you should definitely go for a pint of Guinness there.
I. C.
Food was delicious but service was terrible. Had 3 courses and there was a mix up/delay/forgotten order every time!!. Bar was very busy downstairs but restaurant upstairs was very quiet so no excuse really.
S. U.
Nice old pub with restaurant. The food is adequate but nothing special. Our ham hocks were very large but tough on our visit. The decor is interesting and worth a visit.
E. A.
Good drinks, good bar food served until 6pm, caters to vegetarians and vegans. Sometimes live music. One of the oldest telephones in Belfast.
A. M.
Really enjoyed my meal and drinks and the service excellent x
J. M.
McHughs is a good bar to go to. With live music. It has a large food menu. A relaxed place to enjoy some drinks in the evenings. Always a nice experience.
J. T.

Definitely one of the best bars in Belfast. A great variety of foreign and local beers nd the food is great. Good location and easy to get too.
C. C.
Lovely friendly staff, clean spacious premises, outdoor seating available
A. K.
Love this bar. Shauneen the bar tender is a wee legend. There was a local guy giving hell at the bus stop across the road a few weeks ago... lots of elderly and young people afraid of his behaviour - abusive and irratic. It was really quite scary. Shauneen came across the road like a wee bullet and saved the day by putting him in his place. Total legend!! Also the food & drink in this place is top class. 100% would recommend.
R. R.
I was delighted and satisfied by the food, exquisite interior and friendly staff.
L. B.
Good location. My friend was impressed with the selection of beer but I thought the decor was too worn. Having a seat beside a poker machine didn't help my impression of the place.
M. S.
Outstanding bar staff ,great choice of beer/craft beer ,wine, and spirits.
Really nice building even the outside seating area is spotlessly clean.
N. T.
Very lively plenty of entertainment. However, the food is not up to the standard expected. If I ever go back I will have a drink and enjoy the entertainment but definitely no food.

Great place for a beer or two. Been there in a late afternoon and found the place quite crowded, but I suppose that was because there was an event nearby. In any case the staff handled it well.

Historic building. Friendly staff. Specializing in decent boxty. The standard selections of beers. Clientele is mostly tourists, and sometimes in large groups that monopolize the kitchen.
