Reviews of Northern Lights
A. L.
Amazing choice of craft beer and a treasure trove of other options. Spoilt for choice. Food served until 10pm and its great. Staff are charming and engaging. Absolute pleasure on our first visit. We will be back.
J. M.
We'd wanted to call in for a while as it looks like a popular place so finally visited for a few drinks on a Friday evening. It has a fun vibe and the food menu looked nice. It's dog friendly which I think is great. The drinks/bar service is good and they have a range of IPAs if you like that.
Will definitely return for dinner some time soon.
M. M.
Great bar with a large selection of beers and spirits. Really great vibes for all who attend, no matter when you go always a good group of people. Would recommend if anyone was looking for a new watering spot.
C. S.
This place is rocking, craft ale and food (I haven't tried the food but it is popular). We have been sharing ourselves in other bars so being back for the first time in a good few years is great. I live local so during the frosty period we have just had and, the lack of local transport, buses were running but very infrequent. It was great to discover that the bar is better than it was. I will be back in now I have rediscovered a wee gem of a bar. When it was the Brewbot a lot of people said it wouldn't last, thanks to Galway Bay Brewery it has lasted and will continue to do so. Busy but room to sit and chat. Drop in sometime you will not regret it.
C. m.
This is a great bar, nice atmosphere, really good choice of craft beer and food. The bar staff were really friendly and helpful. Would definitely visit again.
L. M.
Fantastic, warm, friendly bar with craft beers which served as a perfect place to catch up with folks post work for a few beers. Quirky, unconventional & really.
h. j.
Lovely bar, good food. Staff are great. Prices a bit high for my liking
J. A.
Great food and selection of craft beers. Good music and atmosphere. Best of all dog friendly.
J. J.
Nice pub with really good food. Second visit and we had chicken and chorizo linguine fabulous!. Reasonably priced. Two meals, 2 cocktails and pint of beer and cider £51.
Staff really friendly and helpful. I forgot to leave a tip so apologies to the staff.
Nice atmosphere. Well worth a visit.
D. S. S.
Great selection of beers, with Galway Bay regulars and an incredible selection of guest beers.
C. L.
Attended a function upstairs nice space for small party.
Bar service was not overly quick and avg. £5 for pint so not cheap either.
Food was provided in the evening and highlight was the chicken wings!!
A. D.
This place is awesome!! Great service, great food, great prices and atmosphere. I keep going back.
S. P.
im not really keen on these real ale pubs or micro pubs, but the Northern lights was a pleasent suprise. inside was welcoming & the staff were very helpful as i never really know what to by for the best. 10/10
A. o.
Smashing grun smashing atmosphere staff very helpful and a great selection of craft beers i will be back sunday roast hard to beat
K. L.
Galway Breweries first outlet in Belfast and a superb collection of ales were on with prices over £5 per pint. But quality shines through
P. M.
Great to see a bar on this site finally doing well. Northern Lights is really well run, the staff are fantastic & the place has a really good atmosphere.
A. S.
Will definitely be back here. Friendly, helpful staff, & new beers to try? Win, win!!
M. G.
Despite being absolutely rammed due to the all Ireland match and belsonic, we had drinks outside and our server (didn't get his name but he had a shaved head) looked after us beyond the call of duty. He warned us service would be slow (it really wasn't) and kept tabs on a table inside for us. We were about to give up when he informed us a table was ready.
The food was great, the best I've had out in a long time and all the servers were beyond nice and attentive. We found a new local and can't wait to get back.
M. W.
Great craft beers, relaxed atmosphere, dogs allowed. I would recommend "Off the Hook"
G. H.
A great pub for lovers of craft beers. Good range of products and very helpful friendly staff.
P.
Beautiful pub, beautiful inside, have to get a tea or coffee sometime. It's a beautiful pub inside, sort of posters and alternative things you would not see in other pubs, Dr who poster if I recall correctly. Nice staff too always a bonus...no need to do a risk assessment..which is good , so quite relaxed. ..
🙏🙂
R. S.
Beautiful Sunday roast dinner properly cooked and well priced.
P. W.
Great spot for craft beer. Friendly staff. Good service. However, the food is average.
D. H.
Nice food nice staff and craft beers what's not to like
M. S.
Food was very good. Craft beer was also good but too many of the beers out.
R. H.
20 options on tap
1 stout
1 nearly ale
All the rest lager
Average price approx £5.40
A handful of decent real ales wouldn't go amiss
E. M.
such good service and amazing chips
J. L.
Craft beers, great food (for veggies too) board games and 2 for 1 wings on a wednesday. Great spot for groups.
d. t.
Excellent choice of beer, possibly the best in Belfast. Fantastic food as well.
P. a.
What other beers could you ask for, are probably not worth trying? Spoilt for choice at this wee gem. Food is good to. Tip the staff yeoooo
H. W.
Great selection of craft and international beers available. Love the old industrial vibe the place has. Always a stop on our yearly 12 Pubs of Christmas route.
The bartenders are always willing to help you choose a new or different beer based off your likes and their recommendations.
D. R.
Galway brewery pub. Interesting ales. Popular place. Worth a visit
N.
There is a wide selection of drinks on offer, a brilliant spot for craft beer lovers. They also have a good range of spirits and suggest a whiskey/ gin of the month which is a good way of encouraging to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. However, you will pay for it with steep prices. £5 + for a beer and around £7-8 for a spirit and mixer.
The food wasn’t amazing, it was a bit like something you would get from a students union. I don’t think the meal that we got was prepared fresh, it seemed like prepackaged food served on new plates. Nothing special
Service was good though, with friendly staff.
j. m.
Brilliant bar with a great selection of craft beers ales and whiskeys.
P. O.
Food of decent quality and good selection of beers.
L. H.
Great bar for tasting a wide range of craft beers and you can even grab a bite to eat now. Think they have a steak night on Thursdays or you can grab something like chicken wings other nights of the week. Also they offer tasting platters for a very reasonable price so you can try beers to your heart's content. Great selection both on tap and bottled.
C. D.
Amazing, diverse range of craft beers - including of course from the Galway Bay range itself. Lots of seating and good for large and small groups and had has a fun, relaxed atmosphere anytime I’ve been in. Personally, I was disappointed with the food. The Chips were undercooked and the chicken was overdone. The wings aren’t butchered either. I have only eaten in it once though, maybe others have had a better experience.
t.
Food was decent and good value. Superb range of beers available. Staff friendly and facilities clean. However maybe a bit too dark to eat in. Fish and chips, chicken burger dead on, the best was the phili cheesesteak sandwich with nice tender beef. Sunday roast options appeared popular among other diners.
F.
Really good selection of beers! Like.. really good! Also there’s a really chill atmosphere and they do pub grub. Decent place to grab some quick food and a few beers with a big group. There’s board games as well that are available for customer use!
A. O.
I love this place. Superb beer selection for craft drinkers and decent food at a reasonable price.
D.
Love this spot on the Ormeau road's bar Bermuda triangle. Sorry Parador hotel lol
This place is unique to me as it offers a wide range of craft beer selection with a range of board games for a fun game or two plus 2 for 1 chicken wings deal on Wednesdays. Addictive. Downside? None as I write this review as we always get a friendly smile from staff and prices are decent too.
C. C.
Although primarily London-based, I usually get back to Belfast for a week or so each month. My house being in South Belfast, Northern Lights is the closest thing to a “local” for me and I make sure I go there for a pint (or three) each time I’m over. Knowledgeable and good staff and great selection of beers. A favourite of mine.
J. M. c.
great place to be staff very friendly and welcoming very safe track and trace in place good social distancing staff all wearing masks there is a good choice of beer ale n cider choice of food available nice and warm with heatlamps outside i live near here so i will definetly be back five stard for service and quality and hospitality.
D. M.
Had a great time here yesterday afternoon/evening. Very friendly staff, good atmosphere and nice food (from what I remember!!!). We will return.
E. M.
Great bar, great beer. Part of the Galway Bay brewery chain which is committed to providing a range of craft beers at all times. Also welcomes gamers, hosts meet the brewers nights and serves lovely pub food.
N. B.
Decent resurrection of Brewbot. Nice bar, would be 5 stars if their bottle prices were more reasonable. They have some decent bits and pieces on the list, but there is a bit too much profiteering going on.
G. W.
Great selection of craft ales. Friendly and efficient staff
M. B.
Great bar. Used to be Brewbot but Galway bay have taken over. Similar wide range of beers if not quite as extensive as it used to be. Still well worth a visit. Lots of beer choice in bottles, cans and draught.
N. H.
Fantastic selection of beers with knowledgeable staff. Layout is dominated by the central beer hall like table. But there are plenty of smaller tables too. Plenty of games available the same as sister pub Against the grain.
L. M.
Honestly don't know why it doesn't get more business for lunch - lovely ambience, great music and food cooked to perfection (got the fish finger sandwich - perfectly light, crispy batter)... Just a shame I was working, or I would have gladly availed of their well-stocked bar.
P. A.
A great bar with friendly staff, i havent eaten here, but the food looks great and the wings are apparently a delight. A fantastic selection of craft beer with a rotation menu.
G. M.
Great atmosphere, amazing staff and superb food and drinks. Couldn’t ask for more!
R. F.
Pub focused on craft beer. Usually 20 on tap. Part of Galway Bay Brewery. Board games available and a pool table upstairs. Typical range of pub food- burgers, fish and chips etc.
P. C.
Great food, great beer, great service. Monday to Wednesday 50 per cent discount. How can that not attract people? Top place. 😊
O. D.
Come and have a fancy beer... Or a less fancy beer... And worship the almighty lord of Buttermilk Chicken!!! He is brown and delicious and you can gorge yourself in his wonders. Also, you can worship the lady of board games... Connect 4, The Game of Life, Cards against Humanity. You may even be blessed by the one true God... Which is Dog!! Bring your pupper and share a bowl of refreshing aqua vitae together! It is a place of all the wonders!! Come!
P. S.
Had NYE here. Fun night out with board games and loads of space for large groups.
a. h.

C. B.
Lovely food - hefty portions of delicious pub grub, and very attentive staff.
T. M.
Great bar, excellent selection of Craft beers and friendly/professional staff.
T. G.
Very different experience. No mainstream brands. Staff are a little stressed with the whole COVID thing, but that is understandable. Worth a visit.
A. M.
Good selection of Galway bay craft beer. Lots of space and the food is great to!
C. F.
One of my favourites. Good food and cheery staff. Shame it doesn't face the sun though, especially in this weather.
R. C.
Always loved this place. Great staff and great beer. Didnt eat but the food looked good! Plenty of good offers
J. M.
Great bar. Unrivalled selection of beers in Belfast. Child and dog friendly!
Good food options also
A. H.
Great place. Nice atmosphere and good selection of beer. Food was nice pub grub.
M. E.
Can't fault the beers, excellent selection of their own Galway Bay stuff and some guests beers. The chicken wings need work though, a research trip to Tribal Burger or The Hudson is in order.
M. J.
Fantastic atmosphere with the most helpful friendly staff, food was delicious and sewing a smile 😊, will definitely be back soon.👌👏👏👏
D.
Atmospheric rustic craft beer pub. Good selevtipn of IPAs. Their own Full Sail is a proper IPA - makes your eyes water! They seem to have stopped selling the 9% stuff (Belfast folks couldn't handle it I guess) Mostly young(ish) clientele but not student-age. NO TELEVISION nor jukebox nor musak, though theres a band sometimes.
They do Growlers, but at the moment not the bottles (which are way expensive).
M. P.
I always love going to Northern Lights. Delightful staff, a great selection of beers, and a tasty menu.
F.

J. P.
Used to be called Brew Bot, still the same good pub. Lots of random ales and beers. Lovely staff who all have an interest in the beers as well. Great pub!
C. R.
The beers on draught are solid at a fair price. They do pitchers, too! Love the food, too: great taste at a great price.
S. B.
Great craft beer pub in south Belfast. Varied range of brewers on tap with an equally varied range of beer styles. Pricey, but it is craft beer.
A. C.
Great bar for a date. Lots of tables and is always busy (but not too busy) there is a wide range of food and drink and best of all free board games!
N. t. d.

(Translated) The best craft beer bar in Belfast! A wide selection of beers covering a wide range of styles, and giving pride of place to Irish beers, in particular those from the Galway Bay Brewery, of course. The line-up of cans is an ideal complement to the menu of taps. Beautiful place, very satisfying food and friendly staff, you can't do better!
(Original)
