Reviews of Ulster Sports Club
D. C.
House sound system upstairs is abysmal they really need to upgrade you can hear each other chatting in the middle of the dance floor.
Apart from that it’s probably the only decent club in Belfast that plays good music these days
A. W.
Over from Nottingham, first time in Belfast, the hotel bloke said give it try which was fair bc it looked like a 70’s WMC from first glance and I doubt we’d have gone in without the recommendation.
Glad we did though, loved the retro vibe, the on site brewery was cool, faint smell of disinfectant gave it some 70’s glamour and the people were well friendly
S. R. W.
My friend broke a glass and spilled two beers all over the table and the floor, yes it was a friend! The staff couldn't have been more lovely about it. Only downside is on a Friday night it gets packed with what I can only describe as loud, rowdy, teenagers who have the absolute need to peacock themselves if no on has looked at them for two seconds. Yes, get off of my lawn, I'm getting old.
B. B.
A brilliant spot for civilised enjoyment of their craft beers, lounge, tap room. Really good staff too.
J. M.
Big impression made this week compared to the initial reaction, door staff alot more approachable tho still a little clueless, and bar staff rocking their stuff, as they refused to serve me previously as they thought I was intoxicated, but I gave the venue another chance and glad that I did, all they gotta do now is get a reggae night off the ground 🌟 🎶 🆒 😎 ♥ 🎶 🌟 🎶

The UCS is probably the most chilled out bar in town. Great spot for quiet drinks during the day, especially with the little beer garden outside. The grapefruit IPA is absolutely fantastic too, and there’s always good music being played at a reasonable volume.
C. T.
Great place! Attended a small concert here situated upstairs. Great beer garden too and the back bar had a dj and dancefloor.
R. D.
Great pub with music venues and courtyard. Plenty of character.
g. l.
It's ok. It's probably not meant for me, had more of young/ hipster vibe. Might have been different if we had a seat outside. Their members only brew was better than decent, would return to give it another go. Strange to think I was probably sitting some where my own grandfather sat in the 50s
D. D.
Pretty standard craft beer line up. Good location and outdoor area. Toilets smelt overwhelmingly of paint thinner though which was worrying.
D. H.
My second time for lunch and yet again didn't disappoint great food and really friendly staff
J. A.
Extremely cool space and place. Great beers. Good vibe.
R. “. W.
Visited the brewery on the top floor. Great beers but lighting made it difficult to read the beer menu
B. G.
Really like this bar and always try to visit when in Belfast. Good beers, music and friendly staff.
J. P.
Great wee bar, nice selection of beers. Open til 1am and occasionally live music performances. Love this place
R.
Always a great experience here be it a few post-work pints or something more musical. Gamma Ray on draught too.
d.
It's okay, good for a gig or a chill pint vibe. Don't really like upstairs for a DJ or downstairs when it's the club but going. Decent smoking area.
p. h.
Had a great night here seeing Princess goes to the butterfly museum.cool we place with friendly helpful staff we'll definitely be back
C. N.
Good vibes, good service at bar and an all round good place to boogie
M. E.
An excellent venue for a drink with family or friends, where the staff are very pleasant and welcoming. Jonny is very accommodating and it is clear that customer service is a huge part of the recent success of this revived bar. Highly recommend a visit to here or booking a table.
A. M.
Sick venue with a vintage upstairs bar serving craft beers, lagers, ciders and IPAs!
N. F.
I came here on pride with a bunch of friends and we were very well catered to by all the staff, we were served by eimhear, Richard and zoe who were always there in the right time to get our orders and were clearly running around and keeping everyone happy. I spoke to hannah behind the bar and she was fabulous and I'm sure there was other staff doing an amazing job keeping the place running very smoothly. Havent been as happy with table service at a bar as they were on the ball constantly.
Amazing service, decent prices for the area and an over all lovely night!
c. c.
Ulster sports club is a special wee place. The decor is old school. Which is something I miss in Belfast.
It has great djs and bands playing. Little bit of everything. A safe space that it doesn't matter who you are or how you dress.
R. W.
Really brought back memories of going to venues in the 1970s! Well organised. I didnt easily find it as there were no entrance sign near head height and I walked by a few times. There is a a high up mural but the adjacent buildings were concealing this from the ground level! I had a great night though.
C. G.
Staff veer between the lovely and downright rude. Strange place…
S. c.
Sticky floors, weird smell, brilliant tunes and unbelievable shapes being thrown on the dance floor. Fantastic night!
D. T.
Ulster Sports Club has a fantastic atmosphere and the pints are cold and crisp. The outside area is great on a sunny day and upstairs is ideal for a blurry Saturday night.
Z. M.
Great, unique addition to the Cathedral Quarter area. It's aesthetic is very distinctive compared to most other bars in that area, unfortunately the prices for drinks are similalry high, and the selection of pints is somewhat limited compared to other bars. Would definitely recommend for something different on a Friday.
A. A.
I'm giving this three stars because I had a nice night until a blonde bartender came in around 6pm. She was rude and barely acknowledged us whereas every other staff member had a laugh and spoke with us.
G. H.
Table service was a bit stretched. Due to a gig happening near by there were a lot more customers milling about outside.
Always a nice relaxed vibe to the place
C. F.
Super "local" feel bar in Belfast and top stout as well. Vibes.
D. M.
Always a pleasure. Although the new beer was my main attraction for today's visit and I was disappointed that it was sold out. I hope this is a sign of its success and it will be available in the future. :)
S.
Nice place and good music 👌🏼
J. M.
Very good bar. Good music. Relaxed atmosphere. Everyone very friendly. Good place to go and relax with friends
D.
Love the art and style inside. Nothing too fancy but the pictures on the wall provided ample room for discussion for our table. Room outside and the back and plenty of history on the wall. Friendly staff and if you like to have a party there's a section on the first floor where local talent and I believe sometimes international djs play right in the heart of Belfast beside the Albert Clock.
N.
It was extremely busy when I was here, bouncers were friendly but otherwise couldn't recommend it. Bars were not equipped in the slightest to have so many people in the bar. Waited twice almost half an hour to get a drink with the bartenders taking for people in front of me both times. The third time I waited 20 minutes and decided to leave. Lots of pushing and shoving, and generally an unpleasant experience. I have given it 3 stars as I don't know if this is a regular occurance for it to be this busy.
C. 7.
Cool spot. Doormen were sound and staff all round were great. Good selection of beer. Would definitely recommend.
P. A.
Cracking venu. Great sound in the upstairs save. Lovely beer. Friendly staff.
E. J. C.
I really enjoy the ulster sports club. I love the fact it is pretty old school bar, not the bright lit up places you see today.
Also a lot going on inside with multiple rooms, and even a pool table. Great range of music and a place that is all inclusive for everyone.
R. S.
Very fun , cute vibes
C. B.
Love the revamp. Amazing night out every month for Songbook. Staff are lovely, friendly and remembered my order the last time I was in. Which is either amazing or a sign I need to hang out somewhere else.
C. A. A.
Prog and metal in Belfast in a dark Cosy place.
s. n.
One of the best new pubs in the city centre. Bar and door staff wonderfully friendly and decent selection of beers. Still has that old sports club decor and it works so well.
M. E.
This is a very pleasant place to spend an evening. The building still retains its original Sports Club exterior and the inside has been upgraded but not overdone. There is a range of events each month and the staff are very friendly.
J. G.
Like a step into the 1980s, the Ulster sports club is a wonderful establishment that's right up the street for anyone over 35 wanting to escape from the quagmire of pretentious yuppie bars that blight the city centre.... Quiet pints with decent tunes and pool tables await the thirsty stroller who chooses this water hole! A fine spot for the niche unfussy!
R.
Great bar, good atmosphere, usually pretty busy at the weekend
S. B.
Great bar door staff good craic as well.. made are night in belfast!! Defo be back😀
t.
Love this bar and it's style though hope it keeps the old school back part. So many quality pictures and memorabilia about. Food looks great too.
I.
Splendid Retro surroundings draught beer and cider selection amazing.
L. S.
Mixed bag in the sports club, some nights are great craic some nights are dead. Good Guinness there.
J. M.
Very friendly and the decor is very in keeping with the original club. Very basic with over priced drinks. It was way more expensive than other local bars. Don't think I will be back 😔
T. B.
Had a good night quirky ended up sitting at a table on the street, but it was quite warm outside and enjoyable.
J. D.
Good beer. Especially if you're a member. I'm joking, despite the name, there aren't any members. As far as I know. Perhaps that's only something they tell you once you've become one. Look, just have a beer and relax about the whole "do I have to be a member" thing. Which is, no.
As far as I can tell.
C. M.
Quirky venue with great staff and a good selection of craft beers and a couple on tap
A. M.
A call back to the old days in decor with a modern twist in drink choices. Reminded me of a youth mis-spent so to speak! Would highly recommend for daytime drinking or watching a football match.
M.
Front and top bars are nice when not crowded. Not sportty at all until you go in the back bar.
J. M.
Always a good night...great people and staff
E. C.
Great fun in a nostalgic setting, good selection of beers
G. C.
Great pub
J. N.
Not a bad spot
M. M.
Very casual bar. Recently opened. Showed sports in the back bar on a large screen. Pricing seems similar to the surrounding area. All in all a solid pub!
V. M.
Good pint of Heineken. No prosecco 😪 toilets terrible
G. M.
To be honest, I wasn't in it that long and didn't see any other part except for a front bar, leading to a beer garden. I was told though, that it would be used by students and a younger crowd because alcohol is apparently cheaper??
M. M.
A brilliant intimate music venue in belfast. Loads of character and always a friendly socialising atmosphere!
A. T.
Great bar cheapest wine town.
B. M.
surreptitiously cool. Good service and a decent out door drinking area

g. j.
Great music, great service and the drinks were really well priced for a city centre nightspot.
A. C.
Prominent city centre location in Belfast city of music. Quirky and cosy ground floor bar. Back bar hosts DJs and gigs. One to check out.
Y. M.
