Wonderful gin experience.
We put ourselves in the very capable hands of the staff who know their stuff when it came to gin, flavours and mixing.
Highly recommend this place if you live gin and want to experience something a little different.
It's a small and intimate bar. Gets busy so advise to book!
A. P.
Enjoyed the personalized gin survey for the gin and tonics. I must say I was hoping for some craft gin but learned that I had a couple tanqueray 10 mixtures... Either way, the ambiance is amazing. Love the personalized approach! Beautiful presentation. Great music selection and a wonderful staff!
A. W.
Had a sensational evening here. AMAZING gin selection, and nice idea to have a little survey to match you to a gin best suited to your tastes. Intimate setting and great service. More expensive than your regular G&T but that's to be expected when at what was rightfully crowned the best gin bar worldwide a couple of years ago! Already have another table booked for a couple of weeks time!
S. B.
Easily one of the best bars in Bham. Great menu and in particular recognition of other independent spots in Bham which is very rare in the city.

What a unique experience! Gins, gins and still more gins! (Rums & other spirits, too.) Definitely our favourite bar anywhere now. No more Artesian or Kwant in London for us - 40 St Pauls beats them all! From the so unobtrusive entrance in the top right corner of St Paul’s Square, to the pitch black interior - until your eyes adjust. Quite unlike anywhere we’d drunk before. Maybe a couple of dozen seats. I confess we were a little nervous of the scale of the drinks menu. But Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!! to Sophie & Mandy the bartenders for expertly guiding us through the large drinks menu in a lovely & oh so friendly & warm, relaxed way. We’d reserved a 90 minute session - we stayed for 3.5 hours..!?

So this place caught me by surprise. Qwerky unmarked front door that simply says '40' guides you in to a dark, almost 50 Shades of Grey type atmosphere. It's dark, clean and mysterious.
This place is a true hidden gem of Birmingham. One of the finest drinking establishments I've been to not only in the UK, but world wide. You are greated by the bartender who is extremely knowledgeable, kind and welcoming with a touch of good humour. I cannot recommend this place enough for a date if you seriously want to impress. Extremely exclusive and will be added to my regular venues anytime I'm back in the West Midlands.

Great hidden bar in Birmingham! Aman is lovely person and passionated about his cocktails! Highly recommend and would definitely go back!

This is not only one of the best bars in Birmingham, it's one of the best I've visited in the UK. The staff are second to none at what they do and the drinks are sublime. You can see why this is recognized as one of the worlds top Gin bars.
M. A.
Amazing menu. Superb knowledge. Perfect vibe. Everyone needs to experience this place. 💪🏼👍🏼
H. A.
Fantastic place, really welcoming and friendly.
Staff are very knowledgeable about the drinks they have here and what would be good for you.
The drinks themselves are very nice, something for any Gin lover. Also reasonably priced, between £7-12 for a usual Gin and Tonic, most expensive is £25.
A must go to for any Gin lover
D. R.
Proper drinks! Amazing gin menu and probably the best cocktails in Birmingham. If there's anywhere better I haven't found it. Go and you will know!
S. D.
Amazing place to really enjoy gin, and I learned a few things about the flavours and types of gin. Incredible staff and they really understand their drinks.
Heartily recommend for a date night or fancy few GnTs
R. B.
Great cocktail bar. Hidden behind an ordinary looking door. Intimate, with a great selection of music playing. The owner was brilliant as were the 2 ladies serving. Cocktails were the best I've had and I've had a few!

40 Saint Paul's is itself, a delicious cocktail. Blending the effortless cool of a Prohibition style speakeasy with understated classy chic garnishing with friendly, knowledgeable and approachable bar staff - This place is an absolute must for gin experts and amateurs alike.
Walk through the unassuming front door and you're lifted from encumbrance, transported back in time, to a place of cosy indulgence.
My small group was approached by the owner, who sensed our fledgling knowledge of his spirit and provided an accessible whistle-stop tour of the seemingly endless range that was on offer. Our drinks were beyond reproach and demanded a second, third and fourth visit and beyond. Bravo, St Paul's. Bravo and a bientot.
C.
Definitely one of my favourite bars !!! Amazing range of gins served in perfect glass

Had a fantastic evening here! The staff were friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The drinks were delicious, and the atmosphere was wonderful. Highly recommend!

I had friends visiting over the weekend and we decided to do a little bit of causal day drinking. Wanting to take them somewhere interesting I opted to see if 40 St Paul's had survived the lockdown. Thankfully it had! We didn't have a reservation, but we were able to get seats at the bar. The venue was relatively busy, but we were never left waiting for drinks. The service was very personal, and the only thing better than the service was the quality of the drinks.
The only negative about my experience was that I felt incredibly guilty about having left it so long to return to such a fantastic venue! To rectify that we have already booked in for a repeat visit!
B.
Went to this little amazing bar last night. Great gin based cocktails and friendly and helpful staff that made you feel comfortable.
G. W.
A gem of a place.
Amazing menu of drinks.
Knowledgeable, friendly staff.
Love it.
M. F.
Amazing atmosphere, we turned up last minute having been suggested this place, it took us 5-10minutes to find it but once you do it is amazing. The quality of the drinks to the knowledge that staff have. I would suggest anyone to pay a visit to this place.
I. K.
Although an enjoyable hour spent I found that the tailored gin experience didnt reflect my own personal taste and when asking for a basic gin cocktail I was told that the gin, the mixer and the juice were not available.
J. H.
Amazing quirky bar, would recommend to pop in for a few drinks! The staff were very attentive and made the experience special! The bar itself is very small and cosy definitely somewhere to try in Birmingham!
W. M.
Amazing hidden gem. Drinks were great. Staff couldn't be more accommodating and they all have a brilliant knowledge on all the drinks on offer. Definitely worth checking out!
A. S.
Nice little place with a good atmosphere and warm welcome. Drinks were a little slow but were real cocktails. So should be considered more as a kitchen than a bar in their preparation. Presentation of cocktails was nice and they had an extensive menu with there own little twists on the classics. I had their Martini which, if I'm honest, lacked the bite that I prefer. I'm not sure what it was missing but might have been on ice a little too long? All in all though, a nice little speakeasy and would recommend.
K. R.
I liked the speakeasy format and obscured entrance, and I thought the cocktails great. However, it seemed that people just turning up and disturbing other drinkers to check if there were tables available ruined the ambience...not to mention the freezing cold and lights every time that they stood in the doorway. They really need an outside doorman, or similar to maintain the lovely atmosphere. Orders were slow to arrive, but the staff really knew their gins and they were so good when they arrived. (I should say that other members of my party were less impressed, but I can only rate for me, and I found it a nice experience overall)
J. B.
A unique experience. Behind the very unassuming entrance is a wealth of knowledge and friendliness, and the most varied gin menu I've ever seen. The drinks were amazing and the atmosphere was buzzing. Booking is highly recommended as its very popular.
K. T.
The most gin in one place I have ever seen! Drinks were very good. Friendly staff that know their gin and what compliments each drink like the back of their hand.
Its a small, intimate bar tucked away in a small intimate part of the city centre. Booking is advisable and definately worth it.
S. F.
What do you expect from one of the best gin bars in the world? Gin, gin, gin and more gin (and cocktails). I'd recommend you book a table for at least an hour, as it's not the kind of place you'd call in for a quick drink. The service was slower than I expected, but our host was nonetheless friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
c. h.
Wow, I didn't know I like gin until I meet the owner, which he kindly helped us to navigate through the vast selection of gins. The atmosphere of the place is just right for a low tempo evening. Can't wait to go back again. Make sure you book at least a week in advance.
C. W.
Really cool bar, great atmosphere, very knowledgeable staff and incredible gin selection - I'll definitely be back.
P. H.
Amazing choice of gin!!! Which is only a good thing !! Also the knowledge of the gins is second to none.
M. O.
Imaginative cocktails, extensive gin selection and great people. All that PLUS a menu with a 3-D surprise.
J. B.
This place is easily missed. We were waved in by a chap who turned out to be the owner. It's a very cosy little bar, well equipped with most spirits, but best equipped with gin. My rhubarb cocktail, served in a trophy 🏆 was delicious. The drinks aren't cheap (to a northerner like me), but they aren't breaking banks either. The staff are v friendly and helpful and the facility is lovely. I'd recommend this bar.
A. W.
If you like gin, you'll love this place. If you don't like gin, you should probably give it a miss. Excellent martinis. Booking STRONGLY advised, it's a tiny venue and really popular, you'd be incredibly lucky to just walk in and get a table. Staff are lovely.
H. G.
Great selection of gin and very clever how the menu is made. Not use of the gins were made to my liking although as I think they required alittle more tonic for it to taste perfect. Very small bar so make sure you book
V. S.
Small, cosy bar with expert, friendly advice on what gins you might enjoy.
And the drinks were delicious!
M. C.
Don’t be perturbed by the outside, you are in the right place!
Knowledgable and helpful staff with the biggest range of gins I’ve ever seen.
Intimate atmosphere and well put together menu.
Only 2 people serving on a Saturday night; maybe nice to have one more just to smoothen our the service.
H. W.
It's known as the best Gin bar in Birmingham, I would agree. It seems like it would be pretentious, small, hidden bar with nearly 200 varieties of gin. But the owner is fantastic, he just brings it down a notch but not in a bad way, very friendly but not intrusive. Prices are in line with the rest of Jewellery Quarter. £7-£10 for a cocktail. 24

Stopped off for a quick drink before going to a concert. Initially difficult to find but once inside we were greeted warmly by the staff and given a explanation of how they worked and was given a large menu of Gin to go through, I settled on a Larios which was served at my table. A cosy venue and well worth a second visit when I can spend more time exploring the the vast and varied amount of gin on offer.
R. B.
Phenomenal gin selection and amazing cocktails. Bar staff really know their stuff, I generally don't bother to read the menu, just ask for recommendations! Beer and wine available too and some tasty bar snacks.
W. R.
We were in 40 St. Paul's on Saturday 6:15-7:15. Booking is essential. Several people arrived after us who hadn't booked and were turned away. It is a small venue, and space is restricted. They had hand sanitiser on each table, and wiped down after each group left.
Awesome cocktails. Their menu system has changed slightly. As well as their previous 'long menu' they also have a list of selected 'favourites', including Espresso Martini. I returned to an old favourite from the long menu, a Zuidam Oude Genever Old Fashioned (utterly awesome), and one from the new favourites, Shaky Pete's (an excellent mix of gin, lemon, ginger, and London Pride).
A firm favourite cocktail bar. Very friendly proprietors. The one proviso, they forgot our second order, but were lovely about it.
M. B.
Just had an inspiring few drinks here, had my first ever Martini on a whim and the single best G & T to date. An intimate space with a great vibe. The best thing is the knowledge of the staff.
I'm a whisky man on the turn.
D. W.
An unparalleled selection of Gins with such friendly staff who'll gladly recommend Gins and mixers for your pallette. The menu is a complex web of beauty, helping you to navigate hundreds of Gins and find the perfect ones to try. Prices are very reasonable and the bar itself is very small and cosy. Loved it :)
J. T.
Fantastic experience, atmosphere and service. Yes it is just that black door! Prices range between £8 and £13 per drink which is double with tonic, not bad given the context. A must for any gin lover.
B. Z.
Fabulous place serving 140 different gins - great service and the best small, cozy, comfortable atmosphere.
Go visit, but knock first or book to make sure you've got a place. It's small and very select!
S. H.
Super fancy gin bar decorated in the speakeasy style. Extensive and baroque menu system, great and innovative cocktails and presentations. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Try the figroni, unless you're a veggie!
J. D.
Fantastic! Secret cave, awesome service and great cocktails!! Recommended for an intimate drink, not a rowdy p155 up.
G. “. K.
Great little treasure hidden away here!
The host has such a jolly laugh & the bar tender is so pedantic you can see why he was once won international cocktail mixer!
This truly shows in the drinks! They are lush!!!
The place only seats about 20 & the lucky 20 they will be. You never have to leave your table..... well maybe to go toilet! It's a great little bar to fully relax in!
I'm so glad I stumbled across it!
M. D. J.
40 St. Paul's has a plethora of gins to choose from, which can make it difficult to make a decision. They have attempted to make this easy by creating a sort of catalogue that helps you drill down to the best drink based upon your taste. However, this can be complicated to understand. Someone does explain it, but as we experienced, it was delivered in the most mundane and boring manner.
The member of staff didn't even look at us as they spewed out the dialogue that they must of said so many times that day. I appreciate that they must say the same thing day in day out, but if you're asking easily in excess of £15 a drink, make eye contact with your customers.
Honestly, it is worth the experience and to say you've gone to the best gin bar in the world. However, I wouldn't be rushing back. The tonic seemed flat (this maybe due to the barman opening the cans in advance and leaving them on the side) and we were placed at the bar even though we had booked and people who walked in got far better seats.
G. T.
Only went for a drink and ended up staying for a couple of hours. Very reasonable prices, we paid from £8-10 for drinks and some included some great food. The staff were so lovely, we were looked after for the entire time with regular water top-ups. The mixologist even came and spoke to us to ask us how our drinks were to ask us which flavours we could taste. Overall a lovely experience - would recommend to anyone going for some pre-theatre drinks, or post-dinner drinks or just for a few after work or with friends.
D. C.
This is an outstanding gin and cocktail speakeasy style bar in St Paul's Square. Passionate and knowledgeable staff and the most incredible drinks. Highly recommended.
V. H.
Absolutely lovely gin menu and some great recommendations from the staff who are attentive & knowledgeable. A fabulous little bar - we all had a brilliant time!
I. S.
Thursday night, quiet, good chartable atmosphere. Mild mannered but enthusiastic host who knows his guns - all 140 odd of them. Great menu for exploring them. Book a table before you go
T. D.
Amazing selection of gins. Always been quiet when ive been which is great for good service. Background music questionable...
Somewhat lacking in ambience but who cares about that when the g and ts are superb?
J. M.
Great cocktails.
Great gins.
Great service.
A. S.
Hidden gem of a gin bar, just a short walk from the centre of Birmingham, they have a lot of varieties and the presentation is excellent. It's a small venue so be sure to book!
R. C.

Though I’m not a massive gin fan, I still enjoyed the experience, however those in my party who claim to be ‘gin connoisseur’ thought the place was fantastic and have returned subsequently.

The team have real Gin knowledge and push their small space to do more. Congratulations are in order if you manage to find the place. Remember it's on Cox's st... it's address isn't 40 st Paul's square!
