Reviews of Jojolapa Nepalese Bar & Kitchen
O. K.
We went here just yesterday for my husband's birthday and the owner and waitress were so attentive to all of our needs (16 of us may I add), including all my young nieces. The food was very flavoursome not over-spiced or bland like other restaurants, who think flavour doesn't matter. Everyone had a great time and the head waiter even sang happy birthday and brought the cake over for my husband. 5/5 highly recommend!

Been here a few times and loved the food every time! Tasty and not too spicy. Great variety for vegetarian meals (pictured is the vegetarian platter). Veg kofta curry is a great main would recommend. Only thing I’d say is maybe more staff when it’s busy as it’s hard to get the waitress’ attention. Would definitely visit again and again, happy to support a local business

What an incredible place!!! The food is amazing so much flavour like curry but at the same time completely different and there are so many vegan options Inc fake meat items. I wish I lived closer so I could go all the time! The staff are lovely so friendly and the cocktails are lethal!!! Service was faultless the place was spotless everyone needs to go here it is brilliant.
S. M.
Decent service, food is good quality. Only issue is on valentines they offer a set menu which can be limiting, plus I needed dairy free and gluten free options. They had a vegan dessert available but brought me out a dairy one, I had to checkb if it was the vegan one, which it wasn't, to which I was told they don't have a vegan option. They did deduct it from the bill as they couldn't provide me with an alternative so I appreciated that but then we were billed for another tables bill... again was sorted out but only because I noticed. So service does have some room for improvement. Really like the decor and ambience of the place. They did aim to be as accommodating for me and did offer us drinks on the house too 🙏🏼🥂

Super friendly service from Anya, we sat just inside and the front was open so we had a nice view. Not too much choice of beer, but the Stella was good. The food we tried was amazing, shared Himalayan lamb kebabs, which were delicious. I had the Naga Shatkora chicken which was perfect and just the right amount of chilli heat. Lovely surrounding inside and friendly staff make it special..
G. S.
Great location. Ambience and music is brilliant. Was warm inside. Staff very friendly and kind. Food was great, lots of veggie options, momos were brilliant and chilli paneer. The only reason for a four star is, first restaurant ever been to with no dessert menu and payment was cash or bank transfer only. Will however definitely be going back
M. H.
Lovely little restaurant. Did enjoy the ambience and decor. As it was my first trip was a little uncertain about the food but, it sure was delicious. The only thing I would say is that the portions were small for the money charged.
R. L.
A great selection of vegan food! I've visited several times over the last three years and enjoyed each time. A little outside the usual city centre radius but worth the walk.
R. A.
Really nice choice of dishes. Portion size generous and had great flavours and the Raaj lager and IPA were really nice.
A. G.
Very cosy place in the heart of Jewellery Quarter, great atmosphere with even greater food, staff and owner are very nice and kind. It is slightly on pricier side, but no regrets on the food, especially when its one of a kind Nepalese kitchen around. Definitely would recommend to anyone to try at least once. Menu has a lot of variety, so anyone should find something to like.
P. S.
It was my first time at jojo lapas. I had a really nice evening. The service was amazing and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. I loved the interior decor. I loved the presentation as it looked beautiful and was full of amazing flavours. Would recommend!

Stop, wait a minute, think, reflect. “Did I just experience something off the charts?” My mind was blown following a visit to Jojolapa Nepalese Bar & Restaurant.
The restaurant looks diminutive as you pass it by on the street. Enter and behold, this is no ordinary restaurant. JoJolapa’s interior queues matches its culinary intentions. It is best described as fusion: Nepalese meets Indian meets British hipster. The light pours in from the skylight giving the comfortable, lounging dining area an inviting warmth.
The service is exceptional, the concept of JoJolapa, it’s dishes and its soul are explained in detail. I recommend letting them guide you. Go on, try dishes that will open your chakra to a whole new world of food.
The pick of the dishes, for me, was the soya tikka biriyani. If I was to describe it better, it is a Nan topped rice and (Meat, vegetables, vegan meat) pie delivered with a side of curry sauce. What an amazing dish; I had to ask the serving staff if they’d accidentally served me actual chicken given how convincing the soya chicken was.
What an amazing place, the most exciting culinary experience I’ve had for a while.
S. B.
Wow, this place is a little jem, food excellent, cosy and contemporary. Staff so friendly, looked after us, our set meal for five was outstanding, and was totally refreshed as the dishes were eaten. Absolutely recommend this place.
S.
Absolutely fantastic! The food was incredible and the staff were lovely. Will definitely be back next we're in Birmingham!
D. W.
Great food, great service, and lovely atmosphere. The portions are large and you can tell that they are cooked with love.
R. S.
Great place, I would say one of Birmingham's hidden gems of a restaurant. Its spacious inside, and perfect for a quiet meal or a large party. I attended a networking event outing here and I wasn't dissapointed with the food and service. Nice choice of food and very tasty. I will definitely attend again.
I. G.
Great customer service and tasty food!
A.
Really tasty Nepalese cuisine in a nice restaurant. A little out of the way of many popular places but worth the extra 3 or 4 minutes walk. The sweet chilli chicken is to die for and the pancake type starter stuffed with meat is wonderful (can't recall the exact name but just eat it!) Worth trying the Soul Tree Indian wine too, the red has a lovely hint of spice, just a tingle, perfect match for the food. All in all a quality meal at a good price (£45 for 2 courses plus the usual poppadoms etc, before wine), highly recommended
c. B.
Really good food
Friendly staff
Nice atmosphere
Very clean
J. H.
Wonderful experience. Great food, excellent service, lovely staff, decent price. Couldn't recommend it enough.
K. L.
We had Chicken and Vegetable Johl Momo. They are amazing and taste like true home cooked one. Khakura Ko John, chicken was very tender and nice taste. Service by the owner Sanju was amazing. Would definitely recommend.
v. m.
Beautiful place with a variety of tasty vegetarian and meat dishes and customer service to go with it
A. K.
Bit pricey and portions are little less, but apart from that it has good ambience, nice and welcoming staff. Worth a try.
P.
Absolutely fantastic meal. Lamb rogan josh was tender and full of flavour. Good service. Limited choice of beer which was a shame.
Not been before but it was recommended by a fussy foodie. Highly recommended
V. K.
Lovely restaurant with a really nice atmosphere.
We visited on 26/06/21 and the food was so so delicious and tasty.
Welcoming staff and good prices. You definitely should try it!

Amazing food and customer service. There is so much choice on the menu and the atmosphere is beautifully decorated. The only thing I would say is it could be warmer in there!
J. D.
Great authentic tasting food. Would highly recommend. Lovely atmosphere aswell.

Loved it, great service, amazing food, overall atmosphere... Will come back :)

Came in late but was still treated with great food and awesome staff. Will definitely be back.

Lovely friendly warm welcome and felt safe in current circumstances. Beautiful restaurant with polite and attentive staff. Best curry we have ever eaten. Beautifully presented and the food was the best we have had in a long time . Highly recommend for a relaxed evening or special occasion ..perfect. thank you so much . A family night out to remember . X

Excellent eatery with a wonderful atmosphere and theming. Every time I come here the vibe is relaxed and warm, with a good selection of non-instructive music that fits the scene and polite, attentive staff. The food is excellent too, with a great selection for vegans and veggies. A great place that suits a quiet mid week meal especially.
C.
It was my first time dining at Jojolapa today and in all honesty, I was slightly sceptical about going here as I had read a few recent negative reviews about this place beforehand... However, I must say, that I had a very positive experience here! Our waitress did appear a bit shy and nervous (most likely just requires further training and experience) but other than that, the food was great! I ordered the steamed momo for starters which were really nice and the Makhani curry (very flavourful) with coriander naan. The mains are on the slightly pricier side, however, the food, atmosphere, environment and staff make it worthwile!
R. 8.
Food is so yummy and awesome. Couldn't fault it at all....normally most curries taste the same but having ordered several different types of curries, each individual curry tasted as they should be. For vegans and vegetarians alot of choice on the menu. Thanks to the young lady who served us, on her first shift and she did well! ☺️. Will be coming back for defo.
D. P.
Great food, but sort out your heating.
Lovely decor inside, but unfortunately it was so cold inside and it was hard to forget about. We all ended up wearing coats. They did have a couple of fan heaters but it didn't make any difference.
Food was lovely and part of the executive lunch menu. I had the dumpling and Nepalese chicken curry, both were tasty and well portioned.
Well priced. £12.95 for poppadoms, starter, main and drink. Additional drink was £2.

Found this wonderful restaurant after a separate event that we went to. The staff were amazing and made us feel really welcome. We had a set meal for two, I found the food very tasty and well presented. More importantly the wife was well impressed, happy days!
D. V.
Great selection of dishes and desserts. Lots of interesting ornaments and pictures make the place feel cosy and inviting. Good range of cocktails and drinks. Friendly and attentive staff and owners. Reasonable prices.
N. N.
The service was outstanding for us, very friendly staff and very helpful. The food was also very very tasty, flavors were bursting out of the fresh ingredients. Id highly recommend it and will be going back again!
J. P.
Superb starters and curry here. Staff we're very friendly and help us understand the menu and how Nepalese food differs from other Asian cuisines. My curry had a good amount of heat but not too hot which I loved. They also had several beers on tap which is always a bonus. A welcome addition to the Jewellery Quarter
M. R.
Delicious food, friendly service. Only downside wasn't that the main portions were ungenerous to say the least. There were 8 of us and we mostly had the same thing (the Nepalese traditional chicken or lamb) so perhaps they were caught a bit short for ingredients?
J. J.
Wow what fabulous place!!
The food was amazing - the flavours and ingredients were of such a high standard and I'm from a family of chefs. We hired the room upstairs for a family get together and the service we received was unquestionable. The staff looked after us so that we could just enjoy the evening with friends and family - plus saved us doing the washing up and other organising of the evening. Booking the venue initially and advising on menu choices was done in such a professional manner.. On top of this having a music system with karaoke just put the icing on the cake.
Thank you to Sanjay and his staff for the perfect night out!!! Will definitely by coming back. Jay

I visited in a ravenous state tonight and was greeted by a smiling waitress and the owner. After a long look at the menu, I couldn't limit myself to just a main and a starter, I ordered 3 starters instead.
I asked for dumplings and two recommendations from the waitress, with a side of naan.
Appearance and presentation had me squirming with excitement as the food arrived.
A sweet and sour chicken with a beautiful and tangy afterthought.
Lamb seasoned to perfection.
The dumplings were everything I had wanted (I had left the hotel with dumplings in mind).
The naan was, surprisingly, the best part of it all, light and fluffy, but delicately crispy in parts, it was the best naan I've ever had, and I've never had a reason to rate them before now.
I highly recommend a visit for a great meal.

I’ve been a regular at the previous Jojolopa for a while now and written reviews how this was by far one of my favourite places to eat.
Visited the new restaurant last night and I’m so disappointed!
Ambience not as good which is a shame as the building is great...felt like a school hall and acoustics a nightnare
Food was good, well mine was but the menu juts has 6 options!! They’ve culled the menu!! I feel this is because they are now too busy to offer more choice?
Used to love their Jalfrezi but it’s now off the menu? Don’t have the biryani, so so bland!
They’re busy and it’s great news for them but I won’t be going back in a hurry which is a shame
T. U. A.
We found out that for us one of the main problems in going out in UK is that most of restaurants have a restrictions on having children in after 7.30 or 8 pm. As we like having our son this going out with children in the evening can present itself as a big problem.
Not in Jojolapa 🤗. We found here, apart from good food and very good service, a lot of welcoming for us as a family. They not only accommodated us quite fine but they were warm and nice to our son. That s what I call having a customer orientation policy. I wish more businesses have this.
Thank you Jojolapa for your warm welcome
F. V.
A fantastic place to dine. helpful staff who will explain the menu and make recommendations. The food is unfailingly delicious. This visit has notched up a high point in my restaurant history. I recommend it to everyone. If you are in Birmingham you absolutely MUST visit this place. You won't be disappointed.

Lovely Nepalese restaurant well decorated and clean. Staff very efficient and welcoming. The food is excellent and offer vegetarian options. The signature Rogan Josh is really good.
G. S.
Terrific, fresh tasting, curries with clearly distinctive spicing, and sense it was made by someone who cared. Home made feel to the dishes, meaning that in positive sense. Very pleasant and attentive staff. Would definitely visit again.
S. J.
Loved the food. Momos are worth trying especially the Jhol Momos. Other items to try are Lamb Rogan Josh, Soya Tikka Chitwan Curry and Kathmandu Chicken Biryani.
M.
Ambiance is good, server are polite only the food is average. I had panner and I can taste turmeric in it, raw tumeric which was not cooked. Food was bland only the best was naan and Lamb curry.
T. S.
We went to Jojolapa for a friend's birthday meal. The staff were amazing and more than accomodating. The food was lovely and there was a great atmosphere! I'd recommend to anybody!

The lunchtime menu is really good value and very tasty. For £6.99 we had poppodoms, chicken jalfrezi with rice, some lentils and a soft drink. Definately worth a visit.
L. F.
Came in late but was still treated with great food and awesome staff. Will definitely be back.
K. M.
Great food and staff ❤
M. F.
Our recent experience at JoJolapa's was amazing. The food is really out of this world. The chili chicken is one of those dishes that once you have tried it, you always want it everytime you visit, which is annoying since the menu is full of amazing food. Fantastic experience, annoying also, since I want to try everything!
M. G.
We had an evening meal here and the food and service was good. I have though had better food of this type elsewhere so I can't give it the full 5 stars.
T. C.
This place has amazing food and very friendly staff. Would a 100% recommend plus great value for money and lovely atmosphere

E. M.
Excellent food and service, probably the best curry I've had in Brum. Definitely worth a visit.
B. B.
Supposedly Nepalese, actually mostly standard western Asian cuisine you can get from any high street balti house, the major exception, at least twice the price and too salty yet bland
k. L.
What a great restaurant here.... superb Nepalese curries served here.... trust me.... just try it.... much better than the other similar indian restaurants in that local vicinity. Kesh.
