I love this pub. Sitting on the edge of canal offers lots of food and drinks choices. We had few drinks and some. Unfortunately the upper floor was closed but it's a nice experience

Came in for a few drinks and there were some guys singing was amazing night, only was going to stay for one drink but stayed until last orders, lady manager was such fun making sure we were all having a good time and the bar staff were super friendly. Head was abit sore this morning but shows we had a good night! Cannot wait to come back.

26Aug21:After being closed for a while this canal side pub is under new management and was be reopened 3 weeks ago. Did eat here on this visit, which was excellent quality at a competitive price. 2 meals and a bottle of wine was less than £26. Good service with a smile Aug20: Great location. Good service. Fair selection of ales and gins. Did not eat here but food did look good. Did check out menu which looked as if food was mainly homemade and reasonably priced. Large G&T with pint - almost twice as much as I would expect to pay .

Can't wait to put a review up, haven't even finished my meal. I have steak and my wife has a mixed grill.. Well, for a start, it's the best steak I have ever had, the staff are great and it's a perfect setting. Prices are unbelievably good for the quality of food Well impressed.

Went on Saturday and was busy which was good to see. Staff were lovely girl with red hair was polite and made us laugh. The lady behind the bar -red top was busy but made sure she said hello to everyone who was waiting. I take 2 stars off due to a male manager I think. shouting down a radio to someone in front of customers which wasn’t very nice to hear. Apart from that we had a nice evening.

Chain pub; don't bother. Ale was acceptable (1 good, 1 a bit stale), and bartender had no clue about either. Food was uninspired, but at least fairly cheap. I guess this used to be a nice authentic pub, but has been swallowed up by one of the chains. You can tell by the glossy menus and bureaucratic staff. Too bad.

The Tap and Spile is an old pub located just off broad street in Birmingham and backs into the canal. If you book in advance you can ask for a table with a view of the water. The food was excellent and very good value for money. The set ice was great and the staff are lovely. I would highly recommend it.

I'm a fan of the Tap & Spile because it's so very chilled and laid back. It's a family run business and they are just so lovely. Its a dainty place and the food is pretty simple but well cooked. It does get busy with couples and large family groups though, so at times it can feel noisy and claustrophobic.

Nice little pub/restaurant along the canal. Has a decent selection of beers/ales on tap and cask. Is on the pricey side but that's to be expected for any pub along the canal and in that area so it's worth popping in. On the cosy side at least down stairs but still has room for a group. They have an upstairs but have not visited yet.

The pub was a wonderful find . Traveled to Edgbaston for the Ashes and after walking into some chains and soulless bars, we fell upon this gem. The staff made us feel so welcome that we returned the following night. Sadly we ruined everyones night by singing on the karaoke.

I bought a Groupon for 6pm today 5/10 however due to the flu I couldn't make it so I sent my daughters. They've asked me to give you five stars and said they had the most amazing meal and to thank the lovely Spanish waitress (They think Spanish) who took care of them and even charged their phones. Unfortunately they didn't have enough for a tip so myself and my hubby will be coming up next week and will make sure you receive your well deserved tip. we were a little overtaxed by the waitress, I ordered 2 menus (worth 23.2) the groupon voucher covered 2x10.95 = 21.9 and we were charged 3 pounds even though we needed 1.1 pounds, and the drink was written on the site up to 4.35 per person and we barely received 2-3 pounds per person because otherwise we were told it was extra. So we were overcharged at around £ 5

Had a Groupon voucher for meal and a glass of wine. It's more of a pub environment than a restaurant. When we got there, there was a group of very loud men, swearing at the bar which put us off, but as soon as they left we were able to enjoy our meal with a lovely view of the canal. Food was amazing!!! House wine was also very good...Ladies toilet in need of renovation but we had a lovely time and will definatley return again. Also staff were excellent. Thanks for a nice night.

I enjoyed a lunch here with a friend from work. It was a special deal from Groupon so included a glass of wine and a main meal plus a side to share. We both chose the gammon served with an egg and chips and the side was enormous onion rings in a beautiful crisp batter. The gammon was a bit too salty for my taste and my friend's was rather tough, probably needed a steak knife! The onion rings were exceptional though! Nice setting as we sat by a window overlooking the canal and the service was friendly.

The food is lovely and is freshly cooked. I had the lamb chops and they were cooked beautifully and very meaty, my husband had the steak and ale pie which had proper pastry on top not one of those puff pastry things. We shared a pudding - apple crumble- and it was one of the nicest ones I've had. Definitely worth another visit especially if you use Groupon vouchers as we saved about £35 on the total cost.

The special fried cheese had a selection of four cheeses and was lovely and gooey. Slight mishap with the sides but that was easily and quickly sorted so no issues there. Pricing is also good considering the location. Well worth a visit.

It's a very small pub often with a very large amount of people inside. It's quite chlostrophobic especially on a weekend night. It's usually got a lively and good atmosphere inside (occasionally you get some trouble). It's worth a visit if you don't mind listening to some terrible and some fairly decent karaoke. Be aware that seating inside is very limited.

If entering from the pub at street level, you need to go downstairs to get to the restaurant area. The place is small with limited seating but thankfully we managed to get a table for 5 for lunch on a Saturday. The starters (quesadillas and calamari) and mains we ordered (even from the kid's menu) were all really good. And staff was super friendly and helpful. I might come back and try their deep fried calzone (panzerotti) next time.

I have eaten in a lot of places due to my work and being away from home and when I return to birmingham this most definitely will be where I go for some wholesome fresh honest pub food and drink. We had a very enjoyable hour here before going to see Kelly Jones at the Symphony Hall. The pre-concert menu including a drink was good. The staff were polite and attentive without being intrusive and the food was excellent. All only five minutes walk from the venue.

My experience at the Tap & Spile was quite good. I found that the vegetable quesadillas were very good however they were too tough for my knife and fork which resulted in me eating with my fingers. Otherwise it was really good however the veggie burger was tasteless and had a mush like consistency. The atmosphere was not as good as I've seen as the restaurant had no character with no lighting or decorations on the walls. It was good but quite basic if I'm quite honest. The music system was good though as it had most of my favourite songs. I would not go here again but it really depends on what you require from a restaurant.

We ate here on a Monday evening and had the Tagliate di Manzo and what a treat it was. Sliced steak with delicious chips and sliced parmigiano served with fresh salad on a platter for two. It was absolutely delicious and staff were friendly and accommodating. The desert menu didn’t have cheese and biscuits which was a shame but we shall certainly be visiting here again on our next trip to Birmingham. 10/10.

looking for somewhere for a quiet pre dinner drink, my wife and i just kinda wandered in. The guy behind the bar was a little 'loco', in a good way but very friendly and welcoming. with just one other couple in there, we smiled at each other remarking how some places must struggle to survive. Spotting Old Peculiar on draft i persuade (not difficult) wifey to stay for another drink. Glad we did. $.30 and the place started filling up. NIce people too! Everyone was chatty and having a nice time! Didnt eat, but will def try the tapas next time we are in Brum

Came here just for drinls so can't comment on the food. Good service great selection of drinks including wine and cocktails. Drinks are well made some very tasty wines like the malbec from Argentina (can only buy the bottle not by glass however).

A small-ish pub located near the city centre canal network. It has a small bar area on the road side and a bigger (but not too big) area down stairs, next to the canal. Pleasent atmosphere and more suitable for small numbers of people, not large numbers.

This is a small, canalside establishment run as a traditional English pub by a Spanish team. Great beer! Great food! We shared the daily special starter of cheese croquettes. Three different cheeses (2x small mild goat cheese, 1x each of blue, and medium tangy hard cheese), came with a piquant tomato relish, and roquet leaves. For main course we both had the bean burgers. House recipe patties, traditional style British chips which were fantastic, and a potent garlic and herb mayonnaise. In the bun with the burger was leaf salad, tomato, and sliced onion. Yum! The ale choice was Wychwood Hobgoblin, Theakston's Old Peculiar, and Tim Taylor's Landlord. All well kept, and tasted lovely. The reason for only four stars is that space is at a premium.
