Reviews of The Anchor Digbeth
J. E.
Such a great pub. Great beers with a really authentic decor. Also they have secret DJ so you can put on 3 songs for free. The outside quad is just amazing. One of the best pubs I'm Birmingham. The staff are also very helpful and knowledgeable. A pub in Birmingham well worth a visit.
P. F.
Me and my mate popped in for a quick pint before a gig at the Institute. Spent our time in there chatting to the lovely couple who run this cracking pub. Always a go to in the Digbeth area.
T. B.
Great selection of craft beers and delicious stews.Live music on Sundays

Absolutely one of the best places to drink.
Friendly staff, perfect placement, affordable drinks and a good vibe. This place has it all.
Oh and plant and pulse on a weekend for vegan grub is spot on!
D. J.
Diverse choice of drinks, great atmosphere and really friendly staff. 2 for 1 cocktails happy hour on Wednesdays!
A. M.
Great drinker, good beer and the staff are all sound. Always has good music on!
E. D.
Amazing little boozer, staff have always been an absolute delight and decent priced drinks. One of the few old-school boozers that still has a pool table! Top notch.
D. N.
Really lovely pub. We visited just after opening on a quiet mid-day, so were the only customers. Great time to appreciate such a clean, well maintained old pub . Very good choice of beers on handpumps, unusually including several ciders and a perry. Good music choice, and a very nice pool table. Several rooms for all tastes; note that the craft beers are expensive for this area, but worth it.
J. M.
A nice little pub to chill out in and have a drink. Plus the price of Pepsi is reasonable £1.95, cheeper than a lot of other places I've been anyway.
P. M.
Amazing three room pub. Good beer, excellent staff, friendly mostly young clientele. Enjoyed my visit.
P. B.
This place is just on the edge of the Bull Ring and the food is excellent, I don't know how they cook the chips but they are banging.
P. L.
Wonderful pub. Great beer choice and well kept. Knowledgeable and pleasant barman. Had a very nice time. Will be back.
J. M.
Great local pub. Great drinks choices and fun and quirky atmosphere. Pop in for a quiet pint, or go to one of the many events they put on.
S. W.
Cracking real ale boozer. Especially recommended if you got time to kill waiting 4 coach as its right by digbeth coach station.
P. K.
Good pub with nic beers and good atmosphere
S. K.
Old beautiful pub in Digbeth Birmingham with a lot of history in the walls. buy a beer, sit down and just enjoy the atmosphere. Overnight in Digbeth when travel on football trips and just love it. Going back in jan 2019
A. S.
Nice traditional pub just south of the city centre. Lots of ales. Friendly and welcoming.
R. H.
It's beautiful, all the original features look so well looked after. The staff were lovely, helpfu, friendly and attentive. Cocktails were delish!!
S. J.
Good real ales cask and keg, free pool on a Monday and friendly staff and customers, a ten minutes walk from Birmingham Moor Street station
C. E.
Awesome beers... Traditional pub...
Super friendly staff 11 stars
S. P.
Fantastic boozer in the traditional sense, tucked away just off Digbet high street. Unassuming from the outside, homely and welcoming on the interior.
A good range of beers, pool table, and table football in the small but inviting beer garden.
G. F.
There are three places that I know by heart in Birmingham. I can get to them from any location without using any digital assistant. And those places are my workplace, depot climbing centre and the anchor.
Friendly staff, great food, great music playlist, decent prices, nice outdoor garden. they have pool tables. Cant fault it. This place is the heart of Birmingham.
P.
Fab hot mulled cider xx
M. P.
Gorgeous beers and gorgeous people
B. D.
Good vibe, nice staff. Only one ale on
S. M.
New to Birmingham and dandered into this pub after horrible meetings with estate agents and it was such a delight. Small, cute, homey, good music and great beers.
A. G.
Friendly pub, great atmosphere. Lovely staff, tasty beer.
G. M.
Back room excellent. Good selection of beers
P. C.
Great pub, always a nice crowd in.
M. M.
One of the best pubs in Digbeth. It's been going dtrong for years, often has live music. Nothing fancy, just a good solid boozer.
a. b.
Brilliant pub. Friendly staff.
J. F.
One of the best pubs in the city and certainly the best one in Digbeth. There's a nice snug to the rear of the pub, decent smoking area and a wide selection of beers. Usually some good music playing too. Old-school layout and stained glass windows might not be to everyone's taste but it's nice to see somewhere with a bit of character rather than a typical chain cut-and-past setup.
n. w.
Just wondered in a bit randomly as I am staying around the corner for work. Lovely looking place, prices are decent, cider seems ample, people seem pleasant and it looks lovely. Hope my wife doesn't realise I have found a nice pub for when I am away.
T. P.
Good selection of beer. Make sure you pick better music with the secret DJ than whoever else was picking when I was there. BUNK.
D. W.
Popped in for a quick pint with a friend I'd not seen in a while.. Lovely lager.
M. M. (.
A cracking pub just behind Digbeth Coach Station. Small, attractive outdoor area, great music, eye-pleasing interior architecture, friendly staff, and the epitome of a great publican in the name of Jules. Do yourself a favour and pop in for a pint
D. C.
Been redocorated since I was last there (some years ago). A good selection of beers available, and great Guinness.
E. L.
Nestled away behind the coach station is a gem of a pub. Takes you back to a long gone era, authentic without being kitsch. Good beer selection with rotating cask ales served in perfect condition and there's a pool table in the bar!
R. J.
The best cocktails in all of Birmingham!! 😍😍😍😘
M. P.
Friendly helpful staff with the sort of atmosphere you'd expect from a pub
J. N.
Awesome pub, lots of history and great beer and gin selection.
G. R.
Great little pub with interesting beer selection and ciders on draft. Very quiet when we were there (weekday lunchtime). Many original features still present in this sympathetically updated traditional corner pub. Close to Moor Street Station too!
M. J.
Nice little pub, very friendly staff...
9.
Love this place! Been coming for years and they are dog friendly!
S. C.
Brilliant pub, great beer and good service. A little gem of a place just outside the city centre. We only stopped for a couple of pints on the way to the station but would have quite happily sat there all night. Maybe next time .
A. D.
Great traditional pub,great service
P. E.
A good pub with a varied clientele and a really interesting decor. Friendly staff and good selection drinks. The only fault was the number of flies near some of the seats in the otherwise excellent beer garden. A good pub well worth a visit.
J. S.
Friendly educated staff who clearly know their booze selection. Locals are great and engaging with newbies and there's a large community of industry staff to interact with on Sunday nights. Fantastic nights out here.... Oh and who's not happy with a pool table too??
K. J.
Always a great time, guidance followed and clear guidelines around the bar 👍
A. L.
Great little pub but on the expensive side £25 for pint & half larger bag of crisps & glass of scratchings !!!
J. B.
Really great Pub with good art, but there is one local I wish did not go, he brings his own darts and his name is James. He outrightly cheats people for big money bets on the darts - great pub though!!!
D. B.
Close to the bus station this is an old school boozer. Nothing fancy but a warm welcome is guaranteed. Real ales on tap and pool table's. It's worth a visit for the half pint of pork scratchings
G. O.
Great pub & beers, excellent friendly service.
T. P.
Wonderful traditional Victorian rabbit-warren of a pub. Multiple bars around a central servery with warm, friendly staff, fabulous drink selection and a quirky phone app jukebox. (Someone else here has great taste in music so I haven't downloaded it) The homemade cheesy chips are to die for, although there was no sign or offer of any condiments. Worth booking a later coach connection for.
A. R.
This is a Birmingham hidden gem! The interior is incredible! Just stepping inside, you feel that you're back at the beginning of the 20th century. Truly beautiful for those interested in characteristic British pubs, history of interior design and architecture. Friendly staff
P. T.
Fantastic pub, very well kept ales, friendly locals, lots of rooms, great staff, can't believe there wasn't more people in there, given how close it is to city centre and so on. Lovely to find such a welcoming and old school boozer in Digbeth.
L. V.
The finest pub in the Midlands, don't be put off, looks are deceptive. Great foods, great well kept hand pulled beers, regular festivals, Gerry is doing Mary proud 💜
D. N.
The anchor is my favourite pub in Birmingham just near the coach station. They take pride in their beer and always have a good selection on. I probably spend too much time in here to be honest! It's a place you can sit at the bar and chat to the bar staff if you're on your own. Terry is a good laugh behind the bar and also the chap who looks after the beer(cellar monkey) is really interesting. The interior has been recently done up and it retains the original charm. The main bar still has a dividing wall in it so if you fancy a more cosy/private space it's ideal. I recently found out it's open till 3 at the weekends and they now have a dj in the back room. Not many of these kind of pubs around any more so don't hesitate to pop in for a real ale experience.
S. H.
Nice vibe. Shame they don't do food on a Sunday though.
J. C.
A fantastic old boozer with plenty of charm and a great selection of beers, wines and cocktails. It's recently been taken over by bar legend Julian Gibbs and given a fresh lick of paint, updated product list and a great new playlist.
M. D.
Lovely pub. I am not a craft or ale man, but I did like this pub. Only let down was the spotty barman who was acting like a child walking round screaming ABBA songs. He should not try and be the focus of attention especially when the football is on.
J. H.
Great quaint little pub.
Excellent atmosphere.
Late bar.
Pool table.
Excellent bar staff and management.
What else do you need for a good night out.
G. H.
1st time visit...Lovely old boozer.. staff are great and friendly and sell real ales so all good..
P. T.
Great beers, great bar snacks and knowledgeable and friendly staff with Julian and his team.
They offer monies off for card carrying CAMRA members which is a great bonus.
Also a good for stop off for BCFC matches with well behaved home and away supporters accepted.
See you again soon.
K. H.
Been a while since I have been here. Beer selection has improved from my last
visit. Love what they have done with small outside area
T. W.
Unfortunately for them the Anchor was the last stop on our pub crawl around digbeth. Through my hazy memories I remember the staff being good and the vibe pretty chilled. Can't comment on the beer as I can't remember what I had. I also played the worst game of pool of my life.
J. M.
Always a good vibe in here. Good selection of beers and 2-4-1 cocktails on Saturday nights. Heated smoking area and a pool table. Top pub
K. N.
Nice cosy atmosphere, good drinks, and friendly staff!
N. Q.
Interesting place, drinks were good and the service was very good too.
D. B.
Nice pub with lots of character although could do with more choice of real ale in my opinion. There was really only one on when we went.
A. W.
The Anchor is a proper traditional old Birmingham boozer, sympathetically refurbished for a hipster crowd. It's retained the original woodwork and beautiful old pub mirrors and stained glass, and it's cosy feel of lounges, bars and snugs. Funky enough for a hip crowd, and old-school enough for the traditionalists. Djs, quiz nights, pool table and beer garden. Nice pub all-around
p. s.
Nice old pub but my pint was pricey and they refused to take my old £20 note
H. K.
A Lovely Girl who gave us Pints , good atmosphere and Friendly People. The App Secret DJ is funny! The Anchor Digbeth is a good Place to Drink and have Fun with your Friends!
R. N.
Nice old fashioned pub. Good range of beers. Friendly staff. A bit quiet when I came at 5:30 on a Wednesday evening.
T. A.
Lovely old school boozer. Just my kind of place. Would definitely recommend. Not enough places like this left. Stunning frosting on the glass. get over and check it out
C. S.
The staff are always very friendly and they make great cocktails. Great selection of beers and it even has a little hidden beer garden.
A. D.
Nice real ales 🍺
S. G.
Nice city centre pub with a great selection of beers and the music wasn’t half bad either. Very 90s inspired.
C. B.
Nice pub, good beer. Food looked good too, but we had no time to try it. The Jukebox even had good tunes
C. F. B.
One of the few real traditional boozers in brum and done properly. The Anchor has the best pool table in town, a kick ass kitchen and a quaint smoking area with fooseball table. Always up for getting anchored!
D. A.
Fantastic choice of beers and a cracking proper pub. Come if you are looking for real pub atmosphere don't come looking for cosmopolitan cocktails and uber refined surroundings
J. 2.
Came in on a sat night after eleven...good music and it was busy with friendly people the bar staff was friendly and produced a good drink of my choice....will gladly come again
C. J. F. D.
Used this place for years, but a couple of gripes over the last year or so. Jukebox is now gone and replaced with crappy secret dj app. Price of a pint of shipyard ale shot up from £3.70 to £4.50 in less than a year (yeah, yeah, inflation). Can't quite put my finger on it but it's just lacking something now since new ownership...
S. S.
Typical traditional back street pub, nice stained glass and other features. Has pool table and holds matches. Good service.
C. B.
Amazing multi roomed traditional boozer with many real ales and ciders. One of the best pubs for real ale in the city centre.
P. C.
Lovely pub, nice atmosphere, great selection of ales and craft beer. Owner / Manager is a genuine gent.
R. A.
Nice old pub but not as much beer selection as I remember from visiting years ago.
L. E.
A great oatmeal stout. Good chrisps unfussy and sorts the lads out.
S. R.
Friendly pub. Visited here while waiting for my connecting bus. Just round the corner from the bus station. Worth a visit if you need to wait for a little but and Wana get out of the bus station.
A.
Great pub, old school and a little rough round the edges but friendly atmosphere and good drinks range w/ guest ciders and ales

S. K.
Nice slightly out of town old style pub. Good selection of real ales. Nice pint of Horton's Partridge Cider.
g. k.
First visit since refurb, cheese toasties were good, decent selection of beer as always, why get rid of the jukebox for a poxy app?
H. K.
Lovely pub. Friendly and good IPA. Also very warm, which is what you want in November. Lovely stuff.
