Reviews of The Black Horse - JD Wetherspoon
a. d. k.
My son and I visited The Black Horse yesterday for food and a couple of drinks. It was exactly what we were looking for. This is a large traditional pub, good ambience, clean with nice cosy surroundings. The service was good, fast and polite. The food came out nice and hot, was excellent value for money, and of a good quality. The toilets were clean and well maintained. I would recommend and would visit again if in the area.
J. W.
Spectacular old Tudor building resulting in a good pub atmosphere. Good table service.
E. D.
Lovely pub, great decor - fantastic space, area for dining, drinking and outdoor space. Also got parking with is a plus for a spoons!
Service was lovely & food was delicious (actually substantially better than you would get from the spoons in the city center).
Only slight complaint is the pub was quite messy with dirty tables etc but not a deal breaker :)
P. D.
Fantastic pub, staff helpful and very industrious. Only downside is the cleanliness - very grubby round the edges but luckily everything else outweighs this issue. Food always good, clientele diverse and interesting and definitely good humoured. Wish other Wetherspoons were like The Black Horse
D. M.
Pretty place with a big garden and nice staff. The food is tasty and fresh. Totally recommend!
J. M.
Great choice of cask ales at good prices. Great range of food on offer and prices low. Very busy and staff struggle to keep on top of routine table clearing and cleaning. Cheap and cheerful!
G. o.
Great place to visit! Food tasted wondeful and were at a cheap price. Staff were very helpful and kind! Way better than before, would definitely recommend!!👍😊
T. M.
As you would expect from Wetherspoons a nicely furnished, sensible price drinks ,excellent staff service for a pub. Only negative acoustics need some attention as noisy women were in attendance in large numbers.
L. G.
Very spacious spoons. Fabulous outdoor space.
BEWARE THE CAR PARK! I got a fine but took my fine letter to the staff with my digital food receipt to show that I was a customer that day and the staff cancelled the fine for me. Thank you.
D. D.
Perfect food! Steak was perfectly cooked and for me that's a real deal maker or breaker Service was lovely and polite! Will be going again! 👍
M. J.
Really nice place with a beer garden. Very clean and friendly staff. Food was fresh and everything was in stock unlike some other Weatherspoons.
R. G.
Quick service, even when the pub was busy. We used the app to order, which seemed to work well, and I tried the new vegan burger, which was tasty.
C. B.
Friendly and professional staff, nice food and drink and very nicely furnished. Always been a nice place to eat, drink and socialise.
M. A.
Excellent atmosphere. Reasonably priced drinks and food. Watch the bowling in the back garden if it's sunny!
K. P.
Good pub but put my reg in the machine n I'm now getting parking fines from there won't be going back not worth the risk
D. H.
Went in on a Thursday and had there Thursday curry special and I was not disappointed. Food was fantastic came out very quick staff was very friendly definitely recommend. Keep it up well done 👍
J. M.
Good value breakfast with unlimited refill Coffee, lots of choice for both food and drink, excellent friendly service. Free parking for 3 hours.
V. H.
A typical Wetherspoons, but it does have parking. Don't forget to enter your registration into the screen on the bar or you could face a heavy fine!
h. w.
Nice breakfast at the Black Horse Pub, Northfield today. I ordered a traditional breakfast with extra sausage and toast. Was just right and didn't feel rushed.
J. R.
Went for a bite bank holiday Monday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't packed out. Traditional surroundings in a good way. Good selection of food with the, very good value, meal and drink deal 😃👍🏼. Staff extremely efficient and friendly, food arrived promptly and was very tasty. Four of us had a main course and drink and the whole bill was only around £32, brilliant ! Would have spent more than that in the supermarket. Would highly recommend 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
D. H.
Popped in for lunch, food and service were decent quality and the staff were friendly enough, exactly as I would expect from a chain pub
M. J.
fantastic, nice staff, fast and hot food
highly recommend
P. F.
Been here many times and always enjoyed the visit but today i was very disappointed the food wasn't up to there usual standard
s. b.
Had many breakfast here great price and beautiful food very friendly and helpful staff.p
D. T.
Wasn't asked how I wanted my steak cooked so it was very well done, the staff was very nice and asked if everything was OK for us, good value for money
G. P.
Great beer, great staff, fantastic fish and chips.
T. H.
Great staff and services at all Weather spoon pubs
Top 20 around BHAM and have visited most of them BLACKHORSE has had a refit money well spent cheers
M. F.
Good service and value, nice surrounding but rather busy on Friday 5:30pm
S. H.
Wetherspoons _ always a top pub, great selection of beers, all ages mix together in harmony.
O. F.
Lovely place. Friendly staff. Nice building with parking and a big outside space.
C. A.
Good wetherspoons. Never had a bad experience in here
R. C.
This Weatherspoons pub is lovely , good food , nice pint and the actual building itself is beautifull
M. F.
Came here for breakfast, we had the small and normal breakfast with a coffee. Staff were polite and friendly and the place was nice and clean. The baby changer was in the ladies as well and was very clean too.
Will be coming back again for breakfast.
G. S.
Always a friendly place, great facilities with loads if space.
Say what you want about the food, we all enjoyed our meals and you simply can't get better value beverages anywhere
d. r.
Went with friends for a meal had a lovely time staff very helpful, was seated in quiet area which was great
C. G.
Great pub, friendly service, parking available, clean and good food. 5 stars.
S. E.
Fantastic pub. Beautiful inside the old features are just beautiful!! Ordered from our table 404 in a lovely quiet room at the back..drinks came within 5 minutes and food in 15 minutes.. Brilliant service just what our family love.
Everything was perfect and cooked to perfection!!
Served by a lovely blonde lady who was very nice and who I apologise to here as we had no cash on us to tip however we will be returning and will make sure next time to bring a tip as amazing service like this is what it's all about!!!
Clean, friendly, great staff, food and drinks and the prices are very good too.
Highly recommended by us Thanks guys!!
M.
Always a great experience, I work local to this pub so is my go to after a hard day's graft. The staff are always lovely, very very affordable drink prices too.
D. B.
Staff quick to serve, relaxing and breakfast was really nice😆
A. F.
Nice and friendly staff and as always good pub grub.
A. D.
Must be an off day, food is mediocre at best. But at least the manerger was nice
A. D.
Great pub but they really need to fix the squeaky door that leads out to the patio it sounds like a strangled cat!!!!!
A. D.
Usual warm and friendly reasonable priced food you get what you expect.
G. W.
The Black Horse is a very popular pub in the area. It is a typical Whetherspoons pub that serves cheap food and affordable alcohol. It a attracts a generally younger crowd.
At the door security asks you to scan the qr code or fill in a form. It has a one way in and out system. You can order food and drinks through the app to your table. Service is quick and prices great.
Good place for a cheap meal and a drink. Wouldn't recommend for a big celebration. Oh and don't forget to enter your car registration at the bar if you use the car park.
A. S.
Decent place, the customers let it down... staff are lovely a d very kind... but customers are rude. Go earlier on in the day.
P. G.
Swift service and food as expected. Staff were polite and helpful.
L. a.
Great pub, food excellent and good value for money.
P. M.
Really impressed, great service, they clearly have only brought the best staff members back from furlough so far. Work service the app is great for ordering. It's a typical Wetherspoons quality food, but great value for money. Overall really great visit. Especially the staff. They were so friendly polite and helpful.
D. h.
Beautiful old building.. Worth taking a look at.. Indoors is still tudor styling..
a. e.
Really big lovely building - huge outside garden and car park - imagine this gets really busy in the summer.
lots of tables full but relaxed atmosphere - crowd is a real mixture but all friendly
staff very helpful
big fan of the free refills on the coffee - would come back here again
T. O.
Covid secure with screens and self serve where possible. The app wasn't the best and didn't have the items listed on the menu. Saying that friendly, cheep and cheerful.
C. S.
Food and service was good staff lovely
E. R.
Lovely traditional public house, clean, amazingly efficient staff members.
K. A. S.
Quick and easy service! Glad to be back to enjoy a pint & a packet of crisps.
s. d.
Nice evening in the sun.
Toilets still smell to high heaven!
v. m.
Food ok standard Witherspoons fayre. Menu is now getting back to normal. Be careful if using the car park you must punch in your reg number in the console at the bar.its very easily missed
L. B.
Had a few drinks. Enjoy my time there
K. B.
Great pizza very cheap I will be there soon
M. J.
Lovely full English breakfast with bottomless hot drinks, nice and quiet first thing in the morning
G. A.
The atmosphere here was wonderful.
Beautiful building and nice seating with a nice garden (used by the smokers).
Unfortunately though the food took ages when ordered via the app (as most people are nowadays) and the drinks ordered at the same time came after the food.
The staff didnt really seem to want to be there and dumped the food and drinks on the table, leaving the tray on the table and not returning until our desserts were taken to the table when they cleared up.
A nice place, but service is slow and food nit to the usual wetherspoons' standard
T. M.
Absolutely brilliant breakfast very filling and well worth the money the staff were very helpful as well
A. R.
Busy but plenty of room to keep a
Distance from strangers.
Lager good.
J. O.
Never had a bad meal, will be returning
M. A.
Cheap drinks and food was lovely and plenty of room inside the pub and outside the beer garden, only one thing the men's toilets the staff need to check on a regular basis as the toilet cubicles need cleaning.
l.
Lovely food and great service
G.
Very cheap, big old pub with loads of character ...decent
P. C.
Great food an drink very clean an looked after 🥳🥳🥳🥳
P. M.
Great to be back inside a pub/restaurant. I did struggle with the Weatherspoon's app at first but did manage to put the order for 4 meals in. Staff were great, very helpful, meals arrived quickly and were excellent.
C. N.
It was ok had the steak bit tough but it was well done the onion rings were soggy and they forgot the peas and it wasn't very warm hardly any chips
J. G.
Cheap lager, great pint of Stella and San Miguel... Can't complain never had a bad pint 🍻
C. “. E.
This is a lovely place, amazing old building which is very well kept up. Great choice on the menu, ordering and payment is via their app, totally appropriate at the moment. Swift service from friendly staff, great food!! I will be back!!
C. M.
Decent beer, great prices and staff!!
D. N.
This is a nice place to sit out the back in the summer but weekends I find it a bit intimidating inside with a few drunk locals
P. P.
Great atmosphere, good prices, good food & currently keeping up a good task of distancing measures, during #pandemic2020
A. M.
Enjoyed my day there, it was cold however sitting outside, but the staff were efficient and you did not have to wait too long for your drinks...
S. H.
Good pub but often crowded.
C. R.
Mega impressed with the unicorn gin ... Sparkle sparkle. Actually shot glitter throughout my whole drink. Mentality of a 12 year old 🙋🙋
P. B.
This was one of my favourite haunts... So this is the rub. I understand the need for a covid safe environment (for customers and staff) this is a priority but the Black hourse has started to LOCK the front door and leave people to wait out side until tables are available. On several occasions I noted 4-5 empty tables in the area I was, so why keep customers waiting outside.. seems to be a self destructive business model. Question. Is it safe to lock the main doors which is also going to be the main fire exit!............... On a positive note staff are great and still manage to smile and have a laugh with customers during these difficult times. Big thumbs up.... A little advice to the management... don't play fast and loose with your loyal customers they have long memories and have other venues to frequent.
s. s.
Helpful staff, food decent
L. W.
Food was great, staff great. Beware you need to pay for parking now, I didn't realise and had a parking invoice but wetherspoons resolved for me 👍
C. L.
Great service from Simon the manager and his staff, food was cooked fantastic I do recommend this place. 5/9/21
J. C.
Good to be back with some girlfriends in this pub. Great atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks and good food. Really missed this place.
H. T.
Lovely hot food, and cold drinks!
s. p.
It's a bit hit and miss with the food to be honest. Good value with the drinks though often drop in for a couple of pints. This place can be loud noisy drunk people, the management should deal with it but don't. Makes for an unpleasant meal if you've ordered one
k. 8.
Nice cheap food and drinks. Could do with some music in the daytime. Great friendly staff most of the time too. Ive edited the review from 4 to 3 stars as they broke my heart as long island ice tea is no longer on the menu. 😢
M. G.
Whilst the food was just ok, we found the senior bar staff to be very helpful. The waitress we had this morning was shocking! Her attitude was not the best, and when we pointed out that something was not quite right with the breakfast she ignored us. Walking past us several times serving other customers. We had to speak to the Senior bar staff who was polite and helpful dealing promptly with our issue.
Whilst we personal will not be going there again I would not discourage others has previously my experience here was a positive one.
To the waitress who served us everyone is entitled to an off day. But don't share it with your customers!
B. M.
Had breakfast here. Food was very quick but obviously reheated as it was stuck together. Other person I was with had cold beans, and we heard someone else send theirs back for the same reason. Good prices but you get what you pay for.
E. C.
Very nice and clean and very nice food.
P. G.
Went for breakfast with group. Had Eggs Benedict which was reasonable with unlimited coffee. It's a Wetherspoons so nothing special. Must remember to put your car reg in the europarks machine on the bar to avoid a fine. We were definitely warm as the fire in the back room was blazing away. Serve yourself coffee from bar machine.
B. N.
Always busy, even with the business there is a fairly quick food service and the bar staff are friendly the toilets (female) could do with a little more light but were clean. There is a medium sized car park and being a weatherspoon the food and drink is a very decent price. It's also child friendly and always has family's in there eating.
d. w.
Excellent service... Lovely food.
K. B.
Nice place .but feel really sorry for staff..1 person running round doing everything on main bar area. Giving out drinks serving food and collecting glasses..then customers having a go at staff ...call for a manager dont have a go at staff...weatherspoons you make plenty of money get more staff.
R. P.
A local depending on the staff exceptional service and the food is decent too, I always ask for a few extra chips an they do so I cant complain 😋
t. s.
Blackhorse pub Northfield. Love the food.we sat at a very dirty table.Thick rings on the table and spillages plus five glasses which I moved to one side.
Waitress with purple hair bought food to table ,she looked at dirty table and was clearing off.I said please can you get someone to remove these glasses. She said in a hostile way looking me full on"I don't have to serve you "and went off.
I went to bar and told a man working there my experience. He came and wiped table and took glasses away.
Ishe had the attitude of a spoilt madam who's parents owned the pub.
S. H.
Full English breakfast was well cooked although they did forget some of the toast on my partners plate of which they did fix straight away but having to get up away from eating to find someone was a little annoying. The free refills on tea and coffee was a good concept apart from fact that one of the two machine was broken and it was one near me so had to keep walking to other side of the pub to get one. But overall a good price and good food. Will try again in near future.
C. H.
It's an experience....especially if you like people watching!!. Goid staff and usual value on drinks.
C. W.
Always good food, great range of drinks, helpful and polite staff. Great pub!
F. H.
Bar staff were kind and helpful
L. P.
Lovely old coach house and good atmosphere
L. T.
We had the new lemon and herb chargrilled chicken with hot sauce and spicy rice, it was amazing. Great service too 👍
L. M.
Love the vegan breakfast and all the staff are very nice and polite
A. O.
Huge Weatherspoons, plenty of parking, there's lots of room inside different dining and drinking areas, there also some great outside space too for the summer. The locals are very friendly and so are the staff. It does get busy here at peak times so there can be a bit of a wait for food if it's really busy.
K. A.
We went before school for breakfast as a special treat. Service was fast and food was fine. A little surprised that there was no face covering/visor wearing by food serving staff?
C. B.
Lovely place, great service, food was well cooked and served promptly. Near clean and tidy with cheerful and efficient staff. Would highly Recommend this place, reasonable prices too, what's not to like??
M. B.
This is a great Wetherspoons pub with both a bar area and more family-friendly restaurant area. The service and quality of food was excellent (as always at this chain) however it was very busy when we visited on a Saturday lunchtime. The atmosphere is relaxed and the decor is interesting.
C. S.
It's ok for a place to have a drink, don't know about the food because I've never eaten there, but it looked good and there was quite a few people having meals. Gets a lot of regulars , staff always friendly
M. H.
A lovely public house, great food at cheap prices, and good selection of fine beers.
F. B.
Was not impressed with the service and wasn't that impressed with the food
R. A.
I had a couple of pints of Stella, I go in and enjoy a drink on hot days just to break the habit of staying in.
D. B.
Beautiful breakfast. Hot and presented perfectly. Filled me up a treat.
S. B.
Wonderful staff and ok food. Good value and price of drinks fantastic. Pity about the owner and his brexit views. We said we would never use a weatherspoons and did not know until after we had eaten!
w. s.
Best fish and chips I've ever had but the locals don't like large groups we all went for my granddaughters birthday and got more than a mouthful from some of the "regulars" because of the noise from the children so might be worth bearing that in mind if there's a few of you
S. O.
I was ushered into a room with my daughter who left after a while. Whe I ordered a drink I was asked if I was paying by cash or card when I told them cash I was told I couldnt because I was in a card onlt room. I think it's diabolical that I couldn't have a drink and pay by cash when I didn't have a card to pay with. I got up and walked out.
D. O.
A really good pub with good food for low price. Visit here every few months.
L. C.
Good car park, food and drinks arrived and were as expected. Disabled access is good. The pub is large and slightly confusing; I missed the exit completely.
N. R.
It is a Wetherspoons so you know what to expect. BUT it was really clean with staff cleaning and tidying tables which was nice to seee, lots of places to sit and a nice view out the back. Only downside was the hard eggs but still an enjoyable good value breakfast. I am sure you will see me again. The Weatherspoons app is fab for ordering and service very quick.
P. G.
Great pub top service
J. W.
I think we chose the wrong time to visit this evening. Waited 15 mins for a table, 35 mins for the food that appeared only after staff chased up our order. The chicken beast on the skinny burger was cold and tough and the salad was miniscule, limp and warm.
The worst was a regular customer literally shouting his conversation by the dining tables. My fellow dinners had difficulty hearing any conversation at our table and several separate couples sat, looked at the menu and left before ordering because of the disturbance and noise this particular customer was causing. I can only presume he was a regular large spender at the bar.
The floor staff were attentive though so that was a plus.
c.
Great location, free parking, plenty of seating choice during week days but have been led to believe this gets very busy at weekends. As with all Wetherspoons, affordable and varied choice of food and drinks.
s. h.
Beautiful building. Disappointing reno. Looks like an early 90s throw back, there so much value to be seen in the beauty of this place and it all looks reproduced not authentic.
The food is good value tho nothing special and our order was wrong. Place was cold and so was our food as they don't warm their crockery either.
Please remove the 1st thing you see on entering, the flashing gambling machine. is that really necessary!? Considering Wetherspoons had this up market image before, it now seems just generic and ordinary. I would still go just to look at the heritage and building tho and free refills inn fresh lavaza coffee sounds good to me.
K. H.
Great place to go food brilliant good choices staff very helpful under the Covid conditions well worth a visit
B. B.
Strange feeling when we walked in; felt like people were watching us. Lots of drunk patrons. Food was good and service prompt. Staff were polite and helpful. Needs a little TLC.
T. D.
Not loving the new menu. Lots of things removed. Food was nice though.
B. J.
Typical Weatherspoons good beer, good food courteous staff. Have been visiting the Black Horse for many years going back to the Davenport's days I'm glad to say the building is being well kept by present owners. If you want a good old fashioned pub this is the place to visit. Well worth an afternoon out.
L. F.
As a weatherspoons you know what to expect as far as value and quality. Lovely old coaching inn with pleasant outside seating area. They have kept the separate rooms, which is lovely.
L. C.
Came for breakfast. Can't give it any less than 5 stars it's really good value for what you get. The coffee is good & unlimited. The breakfast is really good for how cheap it is and the service was fine. Good garden to sit in when it's warmer too.
G. W.
A good pub, but could be nicer.
L. F.
Went for breakfast and food was good. Large area for outside seating as well
L. L.
We had nice food and there's a good atmosphere here. Many rooms to choose from. Very welcoming for any age group.
N. B.
Lovely building and very friendly service. Shame the apple crumble had run out, because all the other desert options are sticky stuff with ice cream. Maybe Mr Weatherspoons could give that some thought sometime. Nice garden area, one of the nicest Weatherspoons to spend a lunchtime in.
N.
Nice environment to go to. Drinks and food are Good value for money. Only let down are Toilets which, could do with being checked on a regular basis if they are not already done so.
B. M.
Lovely old building so glad Wetherspoons has made it into a useful business again. And i like the way they research the history of their pubs for you to read. The food at all the wrtherspoons ranges from very good to mediocre and I must admit my chicken was a bit tough and dry! Despite that it's a great place to relax and have a drink.
R. Q.
Great priced food and drink with friendly staff. Table service in operation
S. M.
Speedy service. Family friendly
p. b.
This is the second time I've wrote this!
A large Wetherspoon with at 5 separate areas to eat and drink. Two patios.
Friendly service and good guest ales.
Try The Spitfire
I. G. S.
Food okay, beer quality is acceptable but booth seating is very dirty. Otherwise its okay.
P. D.
Excellent food good service and on leaving I was stuffed which is good considering shared starter and double main course for 2 people with extra onion rings was only £24 including drinks. Good value
S. S.
Wonderful food great staff. Lovely building. X
M. M.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff but the food needs some serious attention. Either undercooked eggs or over cooked chicken, lukewarm meat when served and clearly microwaved veg that needs a longer cooking. Stick to the alcohol and you should be fine.
M. P.
Fantastic breakfasts. Come here regularly, you can't argue what you get for 5 pounds. Plus you can add the extras on aswell if you want more. I always order extra hash browns. 2 for only 50 pence and extra bacon and sausages. Food usually comes within 10 minutes of ordering unless it's a busy weekend. Well worth a visit for the breakfasts. Loads of parking space and plenty of tabels with a beer garden aswell. You can also use the app to order food and drinks so you haven't even got to leave your seat.
A. V.
Good pub Good beer Good price
M. B.
Although I wouldn't describe this place as upmarket, the staff are always friendly and helpful, food arrives fast and with a smile. Always great value and we'll presented. Lovely, welcoming place.
A. W.
You can't beat wetherspoons 2 steaks and 2 gin and tonics in this lovely pub saved from demolishem
s. h.
Good food, great ales and drinks choices.
b.
The breakfast here is fantastic. The staff are lovely. Only thing is the tables can be a bit sticky at times, which is expected at a pub. Would come again.
R. a. M.
Nicely decorated pub. Plenty of free parking. Good selection of food, reasonably priced but wasn't hot when delivered to our table and the portion sizes vary a fair bit, but overall a nice place with good prices
E. M.
Another great breakfast from Witherspoon's, seem to be consistent across venues.
L.
nice friendly staff with lovely food and a wide selection of drink
R. H.
Excellent food and service staff happy and friendly.
S. H.
Love this pub, great food , great drinks, friendly atmosphere
L.
Ok bit cold. Ordering on app good idea. Happy when we can go inside or warmer weather.
L. S.
Great Wetherspoon pub, having extensive dining areas and a fairly good bar. The menu is typical and the quality is consistently good, based on our frequent visits over several years.
K. M.
Had some lunch today... tried the gourmet burger. Was very tasty and excellent value for money. Food was served quickly and was hot. Staff seemed friendly. Recommended
A.
Great local pub with quality conditioned Ale and good food.
S. G.
Had a Manager's special priced curry on Saturday night. Was a bit irritated with some mistakes both on the till and in the quantity of wine that was poured. The food was ok but could have been better on several counts across our two dishes. So, y'know probably three stars but lets be generous on account of not saying anything at the time. Well not much.
Back on Sunday morning for a traditional breakfast each. These were pretty good, only the fried eggs weren't quite right - near enough but not quite.
Everything else seemed a lot more ticking over nicely once the coffee machine had its milk reservoir replenished. The Black Horse needs a second coffee machine cos there were queues 3 -5 deep most of the later morning. Quite a few of Tim's chain have two.
There's plenty of outside space (smoking and non) as well as 3 inside spaces each with a slightly different feel. Some of the wall displays are interesting, especially if you want a take on PM Neville Chamberlain from his adopted homies. Good car parking with two blue badge spaces by the ramped front entrance.
Architecturally it simulates an Elizabethan (1st) Manor but is actually of early 20th century origin. Weird. Also there is some stonework from a much earlier building in one part of building.
Give it a go. Ask for an itemized bill and chat it through if it ( or the poured measures) look wrong.
Glad I went back cos I feel a lot better for it.

Great cask beer and ciders. Food prices have gone up
L. S.
It's a pretty nice place to eat and some fit waitresses there which isn't too bad either don't expect to be served too soon though because some drunken will be taking his time at the bar smh but anyways yea pretty nice place to have a piss about!
C. P.
Lovely looking pub with good food at reasonable prices.
If you have heard of it's previously bad reputation, then try again now that the new management has settled in and I am sure you will be delighted at the changes
I. B.
Always good ales straight from the cask! Did you know every Wetherspoons pub has its own unique carpet? Cosy atmosphere, now serving great tasting pizza, open fires, a small range of alcohol free beers including wheat beer and friendly bar staff although it's always busy.
D. C.
Foods not bad , you pay for what you get ,
Not a bad lint with ales available ,
Reasonable prices.
Beutiful old English tavern with a million pound refurbishment done ,
Real fires and a cosy atmosphere.
J. J.
The black horse in Northfield is superb. Gorgeous decor. Food excellent. Smokers catered for excellent outdoor facilities. Couple of staff need to be retrained in customer service.
M. G.
Not impressed with the food, everything over cooked.
G. G.
Very pleased with the service good as usual
J. “. R.
It's a nuce, rustic pub, food is alright for what it is, staff is so busy at times, they don't get to be as friendly and warm as they could be.
T. D.
I'm not usually a fan of wetherspoons food but to my surprise not only was this place nicely done out the breakfast was great! It was quiet when we went, there is a great outside area.
J. B.
Good atmosphere for a family meal. Helpful staff
D. S.
Prefer here to The Pear in Kings Heath, who seem to make a habit of not only messing up your food order but also making you feel as if they don't really care that much when putting it right.
There's usually plenty of space here for the family to eat, with efficient, courteous service.
a. s.
Good meal..fast service..cheap and cheerful..open fire in large bar area..just what you need on a cold day..I reccommend
C.
I was quite surprised at how big the pub was. Although it's one of the oldest pubs in Birmingham, it's decor is nice, quite dark inside, and has a sizeable beer garden out the back. Typical wetherspoons though, you know what you're getting.
R. D.
Always enjoy my visits to the Black Horse. Great staff and food.
R. p.
As always food and drinks were very good. Controls at door for virus checks too, so well done W'spoons.
T. B.
Staff are always friendly and hand over food with a smile. Sometimes chicken in the curry is over cooked, but other than that a decent wetherspoons.
C. O.
A Wetherspoons, so loathe supporting, but the most stunning Brewer's Tudor pub. Detail is outstanding. Clientel not too tough for a Wetherspoons, friendly staff and pleasant bowling green and beer garden.
T. C.
Nice big old place good beers through out . Excellent service all staff pleasant and helpful. We had food service and food excellent
C. U.
Beautiful building no doubt about it, my recent visit was dissapointing, rude staff, waited ages for food only to be told the order wasnt recieved in the kitchen so had to wait 20minutes more.
I wouldnt rush back, but its not a bad pub, just my experience was poor.
k. m.
Had the best beefburger ever here last night
was feeling a bit peckish so ordered a double beefburger thinking
they would be small when it came it was amazing it was the biggest burger in the world , trust me try one
K. P.
Menu typical of any Weatherspoon's. Availability good. Staff polite and efficient. The only small niggle is that there was no fresh lime served with the chilli.
S. W.
Quick service and cheap food great pit stop for a breakfast or early lunch
B. H.
Enjoyed evening staff very polite
A. M.
Lovely place food i have been told is good. Drinks are good and varied. Staff are great when they get round to you
J. P.
It is a pub so be prepared for smellings. Tables are not really clean, I would suggest you that wipe it yourself before placing arms with your brand new shirt. Food is average. Parking could be tight. Alternatively Saintsbury's car park offering free parking.
P. D.
Love the black horse. Always good food & drink at the best prices and I mean that. Never had a single problem here and have been going to this pub for ages. Plenty of space, nice building, good staff.
S. D.
Nice building tastefully decorated.lovely food curtious staff.we had chicken wing, chicken strips and chicken nugget sharers with 3 different dips.all for 10 quid.also great varied menu some meals include drinks.
n. p.
Quick service, toilets where clean.
Its a really big pub so plenty of seating inside and out only put off was staff discussing personal things behind the bar.
A. T.
Very nice wetherspoons pub has character as interesting building especially if you go upstairs and lovely beer garden overlooking bowling green. Great food and friendly staff
J. C.
Nice food and ales. Just a bit of a wait at the "real ales" end of the bar; staff seem to concentrate on far end towards the toilets. Other than that all good!!
A. T.
Bit rough n ready but reasonable food and nice staff
P. D.
Lovely tudor building, great atmosphere with some character. Food was excellent really enjoyed it and nice beer.. Staff great really friendly and would come again
M. S.
Go in here most Friday afternoons.can be a bit of a wait for service but most weatherspoons I've been in are like this.great selection of ales.
G. H.
Food was lovely and served quickly..
Our server "paige" was extremely polite, cheerful and helpful !!!
K. R.
Good value, no thrills pub with large beer garden with a view over the crown green bowling club attached. Can get busy and service can be chaotic.
S. M.
The main reason for not giving more stars is that the availability of the Punk IPA is few and far between. They seem to have a persistent "tap problem" that means they are not able serve it. This has been ongoing for about a year doesn't appear that it will be resolved any time soon. So, fix the root cause of the problem and either train your staff how to use it properly or bring in someone that can.
S. M.
Have eaten here a few times the food has been good, the burger meals are great value for the money, better than some more expensive burger restaurants in the city centre...tolets need improvement, no locks in cubicles and generally unclean, wasn't like this when it opened several years ago.
M. W.
Had dinner at Black Hore northfield Bham very good. Good value for money any nice and friendly staff. Thank you to all staff made my 41st Birthday special.
Matthew Watson
C. K.
Decent, good selection beers, food good. Service is terrible, had to wait ages to be served. Other than that a good boozer with a friendly atmosphere. Just get more staff!
M. B.
A good Wetherspoons with plenty of outside seating for the vapists.
The ales are looked after and the food is ok for a 'spoons
A. I. (.
Always a good place to eat or drink. Spacious with different activity areas. I like going there with friends and family
B. B.
It's a Wetherspoons, it's not meant to be fine dining, although the fish and chips we had was very nice and not at all expensive and the steak was very tasty.
A. B.
Standard Wetherspoons food and drink, charismatic building. Service is usually slow but the staff are nice enough and the beer and whiskey selection make up for it.
T. H.
Great place to eat and they have a fabulous beer garden to sit in to enjoy this lovely weather.
P. H.
The Black Horse saved our lives... After an awful journey from Portsmouth in the freezing weather, and the snow, we arrived at our hotel a little later than expected. The local pub stopped serving food 5 minutes ago... we were advised (by a local) of the Black Horse. 15 minutes to get there in that awful weather but it was worth it... Thank you Black Horse..
C. M.
Huge Wetherspoons in an impressive building, on the A38 south of Birmingham. Good range of ales, friendly efficient staff, and well prepared food.
l. B.
Realistic prices for drinks great atmosphere enjoy the ambiance
I. B.
Great atmosphere and gud food in great pub.

D. S.
Lovely breakfast, and good service, never had cause to complain always served fresh and hot, and not harassed to leave even when it's busy. We will return.
H. S.
Busy with mainly locals drinking, plus side is there's nice big 'family eating area to the rear of the bar area
G. L.
Nice, locally-popular pub for breakfast or lunch visit. On-site parking. Beer garden at rear. Typical Wetherspoons menu, friendly efficient staff.
E. W.
Good selection of food and drink. Friendly staff
G. K.
Decent place for us locals...as you would expect from a wetherspoons..
Don't feel ripped off by drink prices...the place to get tanked up before hitting the more expensive venues lol
A. P.
It was ok but breakfast could have been better. Brilliant atmosphere and friendly staff.
P. G.
It's okay for food in general. Perhaps I picked a bad time, but table cleaning up seems to be if you're lucky you'll get it. Food was okay.
D. B.
Nice pub, same as most wetherspoon pub, staff a bit undertrained, we asked some changes in our plates and it didn't went to the chef's the same message.
K. A.
Reasonably priced, never had a bad pint. Lovely beer garden and food is always on the money! Never dissapointed
d. d.
Nice pub mixed customer base all adges. If you after a beer good place to come. Note they do not accept old one pound coins
J. U.
Lovely staff and nice food. Only thing is that it is a bit dark. Maybe they could have an area with better illumination.
k. m.
Had the best beefburger ever here last night
was feeling a bit peckish so ordered a double beefburger thinking
they would be small when it came it was amazing it was the biggest burger in the world , trust me try one

A. C.
Beautiful pub, very nice for a Wetherspoon's inside and out. £1.79 an ale
M. O.
Covid measures are good food was so so
staff were pleasant
the staff need educating on their app to explain to customers
J. P.
Friendly staff and food was good. I couldn't ask for much more.
j. k.
It's got a nice vibe in there but the coke tastes like it's been watered down the coffee machine by the taste of the coffee has never been cleaned and the food is all microwaved and disgusting
D. G.
Great for people watching
C. M.
Nice choice of beers and good staff
C. W.

J. H.
Went New Years day 2019...service was excellent...food great massive portions...staff very friendly..
j. J.
If u knew the pub in the 70s I'd cry They have ripped the authentic fea cher's from the bar. Vintage oak bar and fitments, replaced with particle board and granite tops.
J. P.
Excellent value Sunday morning breakfast, served with speed and courtesy. Well worth a try 😁
A. S.
Good pub been there for years, it is a weatherspoons and great to pop in to get a drink.

I was quite surprised at how big the pub was. Although it's one of the oldest pubs in Birmingham, it's decor is nice, quite dark inside, and has a sizeable beer garden out the back. Typical wetherspoons though, you know what you're getting.

It is a Wetherspoons so you know what to expect. BUT it was really clean with staff cleaning and tidying tables which was nice to seee, lots of places to sit and a nice view out the back. Only downside was the hard eggs but still an …

J. S.

C. G.

L. C.
Great for breakfast and coffee before work. Always clean and tidy. Staff a great too
J. K.
Good prices, nice beer garden hampered by the constant stream of ambulance sirens from the near by station and a staff made up of a trusted set of fast old hands and a younger group of staff who are inexperienced and slow. The bar seems to be constantly understaffed where waits of 5 to 10 minutes are common while someone polishes a fridge door.
J. D. l. F.
Friendliest Wetherspoons I've ever been in, had a great breakfast, big advantage to have parking.
H. M.
The staff were great table service was great I will go back again

S. H.
Great service, great food and a gorgeous waitress, best wetherspoons experience for miles.
S. T.
For a Wetherspoons it feels more like a local. Plenty of space to eat away from the bar and two log fires on a cold day.
M. T.
Value for money, convenient, great bar staff that don't leave you waiting
J. a.
