Reviews of The Botanist Bar & Restaurant Birmingham

From the outside The Botanist Bar & Restaurant looks modest. Step in and the botanical concept unveils itself. It doesn’t try to bring nature indoors, which a lot of modern cafes do. Instead it tries to mix scientific study of flora with a modern themed bar and diner. It is a beautiful mix.
There are loads of informal seating areas to comfortably relax. Loving the warmth, I found a seat beneath a heater near the window. Service was quick, perceptive and helpful. I went with tapas style Vegan Board.
It arrived, 5 dishes for £15 served in small pots on a big block of wood. It looked stunning. Each dish was exciting, especially the bang bang cauliflower with its sweet, spicy notes and crispy exterior.
I took a look around, it was early and half of the seats were occupied. Most of the people there were either couples or friends. I did see a bench of work mates, which is refreshing. It’s a wonderful social atmosphere.
I will return, there are so many exciting dishes still to explore on the menu.

Our experience was lovely, the staff were very attentive . Didn't catch our servers name but he made sure we had everything. Our Sunday roast was amazing! Thank you to the chef's . We will definitely be back again *****
o.
Excellent. Started with cocktails which were nice but nothing amazing, brilliant starters of Salt 'n' Pepper chicken wings and Onion Petals. Followed by the house specials of hanging kebabs (Lamb for me, Chicken and Chorizo for my wife). Beer and a glass of wine as well came to about £75. But it was the service that makes them stand out, brilliant from the moment you go in, speedy and attentive service means everything when dining out and this place knocked it out the park!

Absolutely delicious food! We had the chicken and lamb hanging skewers and paid extra for flatbreads and it was all glorious! Will definitely be returning!
B. F.
Absolutely fantastic. Food was amazing and our waiter was brilliant. Decor was nice and relaxing. I would definitely visit again!!!!
S. W.
I had cauliflower wings with Frank sauce for my starter very nice friendly staff and helpful. Cocktail very yummy and delicious. It was a Parkinson's surprise supper. Fantastic starter to begin with.

The photos say it all! Just wonderful, the food and drinks. Service was also fab

My birthday was Tuesday aug 3 and luckily i could made a last minute booking via their online service. Upon entering i was assigned the server called Alan who has the patience of a saint. He waited for me and my guest to order our food and drinks , he helped suggest foods and drinks as we were unsure what to have. I was pleasantly surprised by the food such as the pricing and the amount we received. I can honestly say i’ve never left a restaurant until i ate at the botanist where i have had my money’s worth. Alan constantly kept checking up on us to ask how our food and drinks were. I cannot wait to come back . Alan & the other waiter on shift ( didn’t catch his name) made my birthday meal so amazing. They both are so kind and deserve the world!

Straight away, I have to say that the food here is very nice a if it were only for the food I would visit here again.
The reason for the lower rating is the service I "recieved" while I dined at this establishment. We were seated very quickly despite being early which is nice, but that may have been the only thing that was done in any type of timely manor. It took about 10 minutes for someone to come and take our drinks order after been given the menus and also while being seated by the front door - next to at least 3 staff members, at least 1 at all times. Once ordering the food and drink it was a normal wait for the food to come that's normal, but the drinks did also turn up at the exact same time which I find odd for a restaurant.
Upon finishing the food, which again was very nice, we were again waiting for what felt like ages for someone to even come over to our area so we could ask for the bill. We eventually got up and grabbed a member of staff which for some reason again we were waiting a substantial amount of time for someone to actually come and take payment - it was like they didn't want us to pay.

Booked in advance. Excellent service of cocktails to the table via our phones. Staff friendly. Was very hot in the basement on our arrival and they sorted air conditioning for us. Cocktails just beautiful 🥰. Toilets spotless. Felt very clean and safe.

Meal was great good value.. service not so great

First time here, fantastic atmosphere, bouncers were friendly and polite, felt safe, went in for a few drinks, lady at entrance to bar and restaurant, was " amazing" got a seat in the bar, great atmosphere, music was brilliant!! Made all the difference to the atmosphere, great service great staff, what a credit to Botanist...I have recommended it to my friends, family and work colleagues

Very nice venue! Unique decor and friendly staff. Very nice drinks (the smoky pineapple negroni was delicious!). Se stayed for food and had a very nice meal. The vegan options were limited but Very tasty. The staff were super friendly and even though they had already sold the last vegan dessert, they were able to make up another one for me as I couldn't have any of the other desserts.

This place should be nice, but unfortunately isn't.
It is trying to be too many things at once, it's a sit down restaurant, but also a pub with live music, but also a club and cocktail bar.
We went for dinner and the 'restaurant' is pushed right in the corner, but due to the loud music you can't actually talk, you can't hear each other.
This is not what you look for when you go for a romantic meal out.
The other issue is the bill. Like lots of places a "voluntary" service charge is added, but as we all know this is not voluntary due to it being added already. Unfortunately this is expected form this type of place, however once paying it also asks you if you want to add a tip as well. If you do this would essentially be 2 service charges, which I don't think is fair.

I have had the opportunity to work here for a year , about 5 years ago. Food is modern, European, British style. Somewhat imaginative yet safe. Overall fine, maybe even great to the outsider. However, kitchen staff has to deal with mice and spending breaks in syringe littered back alley. Coke (and I don't mean the carbonated beverage) is helping managers and wait staff to make though busy nights.
E. W.
The drinks were very nice, obviously, however, there is a particular male barman who just kept shouting random phrases, craving attention. It really detracted from a nice time. Of he wants to partake in a stand up show, work at the glee club.
G. P.
Superb cocktails and delicious food.
What a great little place; friendly staff, the bar knocked out some super cocktails and the kitchen delivered tasty kebabs, super hot crispy fries and flatbreads with crispy fresh slaw. Portion size was spot on, plenty of kebab.
We will be back.
Thank You.
[we booked table]
M. B.
Cocktails were great, staff really busy but get through the orders at a good pace. Really busy gets quite loud so not great for a quiet drink but just the job if your after a lively atmosphere and top Cocktails 🥂
A. P.
I had the fish and chips and it was huge! I was glad not to have ordered any starters. The curry sauce was so tasty 😋. Didn't fancy the strawberry and elderflower cooler much as the flavours didn't go well, they were bitter together. Anyhow, the place is very pretty on the inside. P.s if you order the garlic bread as a starter just be prepared for a smaller mains.
N. B.
We booked the botanist for a staff meal, well so we had thought, apparently we were sent an email to let us know they were fully booked!(we did not receive the email, maybe a fault on our side??)
Christmas staff party meal cancelled!!
The staff at the Botanist were exceptionally hospitable, infact amazing 👏🏾 after a little chat and some shifting around, they managed to fit the whole team in the restaurant. Food was on point, tasted absolutely amazing, cocktails were to die for, waiting staff very polite lovely clean friendly place to eat. Thank you for fitting us in at such late notice we had an amazing time 🤗

Have procedures in place for Covid check before entering the property. Service was very good and drinks where wonderful. Food was excellent. Only thing that let it down was the atmosphere, but unfortunately that is probably a knock on of the problems we are currently facing. Enjoyable experience. Hope you enjoy.
G. D.
Real nice place, comfortable, gives the feeling of being in a beach hut bar!! Food was fab!! 👌🏽 recommend the hanging kebabs!!
A. B.
Good looking pub. Unfortunately I didn't had a chance to eat an meal as tables were fully booked but drinks were really tasty. Bit expensive but manageable ;)
S. S.
Nice atmosphere and lovely staff. Cocktails a bit pricey probably due to the place being in city centre
m. #.
I tried botanist in notthingham and York locations and I loved the service and drinks and food in both of them sadly this one in Birmingham really disappointed. Quality of food is mediocre and drinks are very poor quality comparing to other locations. Location is okay and the place inside looks great.
c. b.
Nice food really enjoyed it. Had the vegan option and not disappointed.
S. ?.
Perfect place for a date. Food is good, drinks are terrific. Bring a date or anyone to make up the serving time as it can take long for your order to arrive.
T. B.
Great bar and drinks were lovely. Narman on this occasion was super slow considering it was very quiet but he did make good drinks once we got them!
A. B.
Probably about 3.5 stars... the place is really nicely decorated and got a cool vibe. Drinks menu is amazing, loads of lovely wine and cocktails.
The food was hit and miss...hallumi kebab was dipped in a coating that was unnecessary and was over done, the chilli chips were so greasy that they were inedible... but the meat kebab and starters were really nice.
Overall, great place to meet for drinks
J. C.
Loved the decor, and the Christmas menu (2021) is great... The turkey and all trimmings hanging kebab was amazing (it could do with a bit more meat).
I loved the baked Camembert cheese as starter, the burger was great.
W. S.
A pleasant place to enjoy a meal. A small but varied menu. We tried the hanging kebabs which were very tasty. Staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful when we had a minor problem with a drink, which was our fault. A central location to visit if in Birmingham city centre.
R. C.
This was one of the best looking bars I've ever been to. Kudos to the designer, even the toilet was cool. Huge cocktail menu, good beers on tap and live music. Had a really great time. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Birmingham. Cheers!
L. C.
When I first walked into The Botanist I was amazed by all of the interesting decor, it truly is a stunning place. It has
decent sized bar area that has one of the most efficient and professional bar teams in Birmingham in my opinion, a fantastic drinks selection with a wide range of wines, beers and most of all cocktails, however it could include a bit more information on soft drinks on the menu other than that it suits the needs for anybody.
The restaurant area is fairly big with a beautiful private dining area downstairs which would be perfect for parties, conventions etc the serving staff are some of the best I've seen, from English to Spanish to Caribbean they have a great selection of people from all different backgrounds and they were very helpful throughout my dinner experience, they are a true credit to the company.
Last but not least I have eaten a few times at the botanist but my favourite dish has to be the pork belly kebab with salt and pepper chips it really is mouthwatering. I have no complaints when it comes to food, other than that it can be quite a wait on the food time on the busier days but it has to be expected, so again no complaints. Overall I would highly recommend this place as I will be returning regularly
C. S.
Lovely restaurant with nice food, rather expensive, cocktails are a specialty at the Botanist and cost just as much as the food, new cocktail mixes none of your good old, well known favourites on the menu, but bar tenders will accommodate and the mixologist will make your request available for you, I had a sizzling kebab which was very nice, despite the bristles on the meat, none of the other guests had this issue as they had different meals, with some guests being vegan the menu was able to suitably accommodate all with their reviews of their dishes being very positive.
Not very disabled friendly with toilets being downstairs on the lower ground and multiple small stair cases on the ground floor, with the cramped conditions and walkways it's not ideal for a wheelchair users.
Card payments are taken at the tables by your server.
Live entertainment, when I visited, personally I thought it was a bit too loud. Had a good evening here.
A. W.
Food was really good and value for money
M. P.
Came here after hearing loads about it and reading some reviews. Was not disappointed. Booked a table and got there a little early. Grabbed a drink from the bar and then went to our table. Service at the bar was really good, staff recommend something I'd never had and really enjoyed 👌🏽. The food itself, went for the hanging kebab and it was really nice. Not over done at all and lots of flavor. Also tried the cookie dough dessert, oh boy was that lovely. All in all a great experience and thoroughly enjoyed
A. A.
Attended a recent cocktail masterclass and the staff were great. Especially George who was teaching us how to make amazing cocktails. I would highly recommend this place for cocktail masterclasses.
G. B.
Had a great meal, really loved the look of the hanging kebab my daughter had, and enjoyed my roast lamb, although it could have been a little less dry... Mentioned it was my daughter's birthday, and a glass of prosecco appeared, as if by magic! Top service from Ben... I think that's his name... Good work all round.
G. B.
Nice place. Has a good range of cocktails which are reasonably priced. Service can be a little slow as there never seems to be enough staff. Finding a table can be difficult too. Avoid the pinot noir as it's terrible.
J. B.
Trying the hanging kebabs is a must. So delicious. Lots of vegan and vegetarian choices too. Great choice of gins and ales. Service was faultless.. Nice and quick and attentive. Only downside was the noise. I'm so glad we got put in the little conservatory area as the main eating and drinking area was way to loud. People were shouting to be heard over each other and the live music. Great for groups and friends. Not so great for an intimate chat.
T. D.
Beautiful cocktail bar and restaurant. Friendly and efficient staff, more than happy to make your visit special xXxXx
S. E.
Great selection of cocktails with a solid food menu to back them up. Would recommend booking in advance for food but nights out you can walk right in... May be a queue at the bar though as it's a popular place
J. K.
Lovely meal with friends, great food and atmosphere. Serving staff could have been more helpful with it came to paying the bill for our large party (13 of us) had to push for printed out itemised bill also didn't say until we'd sorted it all out ' o we don't take cash' Took the shine off what had been a nice afternoon
S. Q.
Great atmosphere, lovely and warm, sat by the kitchen and very lively. They're getting 5 stars as they have Beavertown Neck Oil on tap, my favourite IPA. The hanging kebabs were OK, slightly over cooked. Service was great too. Worth a visit just for the neck oil.
D. W.
Pretty crowded so took a long time to get a drink but had a good atmosphere and a bit of liver music that worked well. Had an interesting Mojito but would probably have preferred a classic one
C. B.
Went for the cocktails and were not disappointed. Great choice, good service busy.
A. S.
I absolutely love The Botanist. There has never been a place that spoke to me more in the way it looks and inspired me to tidy my flat. The wait staff are pleasant and everything is presented beautifully. Every inch of the Botanist is incredible. The only downside for me was the lack of vegan options, which means I would struggle on a return visit. Nonetheless, I would always return for a good drink.
C. W.
Cocktails and food are amazing! Very reasonable pricing too. The decor is so lovely, a real gem in Central Birmingham. We had a lovely lunch. I will definitely be back! 👌🥂😊
K.
Great service and cocktails. Good was good too. I had the halloumi burger, Banana Sundae and a tropical cocktail ( I forgot the name)
A. H.
Beautiful place to go for food and cocktails!
Went for a Christmas meal for work so 14 people during a busy time and the staff were brilliant, they were patient considering we were those annoying people trying to split the bill! So well done for dealing with us!
But honestly the food was delicious I will be going again!
V. R.
I love this place! The cocktails are amazing and the variety is great. The music is also nice and very often you can even enjoy live music. I recommend you go there earlier or at least reserve a seat, because you may not find available spaces to sit.
S. T.
Lovely food and atmosphere! Good Covid safety measures in place. Some beers on the menu weren't available but enjoyed the selection we chose as substitute.
C. C.
Another great Botanist! They are excellent venues and I always try to pop in when I find one! They have great food, lovely staff and reasonably priced... A lovely venue too! It's also worth getting the app for a discount!
S.
Great food here last week, had the hanging kebab with garlic butter. Would fully recommend! My only issue was the slow service from the bar but being in the city centre this always going to be the case.
O. -. J.
Brilliant atmosphere and decor, the food was nice but not amazing. Cocktail was ok but nothing I would rush back for.
A. J.
Desserts and drinks were really good. Mains were a bit less satisfaying.
A. F.
Absolutely loved The Botanist, the perfect example of "my kinda place." Food, tastes as good as it looks. Presentation and environment, spot on, so relaxed and vibrant. Food was flavourful and comforting. Plate presentation, eye catching and clean. The Botanist's 'own touch' was appreciated and different. It made me want to dive in and enjoy. We left feeling happy and content.. I'm so embarrassed though, I do not know our waitress's name. Tall, light hair and big smile.. I'd like to say thank you for her most welcoming vibe, attentive and professional, only added to our great experience..
A truly great way to start one's day, I look forward to my next visit.
M. H.
It's a hipster restaurant/bar with a modest food menu but a huge range of cocktails and world beers. The small food menu is not a problem because the quality is good. Their hanging kebabs are great and the prices, while high for the drinks, are what you would expect for the centre of Birmingham. It's a bit busy in the evening but the service was top notch. Looking forward to my next visit.
L. H.
Had a fab time, really great place for food and drink. Food was tasty, especially the salt and pepper petals! Yum. Drinks were so tasty (a bit expensive but I think your paying for the experience?!) There is a kids menu too!
C. B.
Good food and good cocktails. That being said, cocktails are very expensive for what you actually get. Service was excellent, went for my mother's birthday and the staff treated us very well. Great place to start a night out in Birmingham.
C. K.
Amazing Place. Table of 10 of us booked for Bank Holiday Sunday. We were downstairs and had the room to our selves. Music, Aircon, and a great waiter. Food was great and everyone enjoyed. Drinks were fairly fast coming and the deserts were amazing. I'd go here again defiantly. Downstairs would of been a bit quiet for a smaller group but for a bigger group of people was perfect.
R. V.
I really enjoy this place, the atmosphere is fantastic and the décor is great. It's really done up to the Botanist theme. The drinks are great with different flavours that are unusual. I'm yet to eat here but I'm sure I will soon. My only gripe that it's a little bit pricey, but great place to relax with a nice cocktail!
K. T.
Great cocktail bar, and a great selection of beers as well. Busy because of the warm weather, but no delay in getting served, and drinks were spot on!! Definition worth a visit if you're in the area for an afternoon or evening.
N. L.
Good food and cocktails!
L. H.
Had a private room downstairs for a work do. Cocktail making and plenty of drinking. Cocktails here are brilliant, we had Liam as bartender and he really knows his stuff. Just ask him to make one of his choice and sit back.
T. B.
Just had a coffee early Sunday morning...friends had cocktails lovely and fresh.... ... what a beautiful building inside loved the decor ..
D. I.
Amazing bar,great staff,great service,great cocktails & GREAT FOOD.......HAD an absolute ball on here,live music too......HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
S. M.
Great places with superb stuff and delicious food 😍
K. B.
Nice little find. Lovely decor, very inviting. Staff were friendly. Tables and toilets are clean.
J. P.
Great decor, I have no complaints about the food. The cocktails are rather good as well.
P. C.
The place itself is pleasant enough, not over keen on booking a two hour time slot, then having to wait nearly half an past our time slot. The was not too bad,had the peppered chicken wings for starters which looked like they could've done with some colour, I almost sent them back to be cooked properly. The main was a bit better but the portion could've been bigger.Overall it was a good experience. Would deffo go back.
d. s.
7 of us dined here on thursday. Its in an area with lots of competing venues, but it stands out, with the decor and eclectic seating areas. The service was attentive, the food was good and competitively priced for the location and freshly cooked, rather than food service microwave stuff. I had fish and chips which the chips were a 10/10, came with exciting mini plant pots of curry sauce, mushy peas and a piquant tartare sauce :-). The beer selection was excellent, Neck Oil was on par. I will be going back
T. C.
Lovely food, the kebabs r beaut, very busy place so it took a while for each course to come out that was the only downfall.
J. W.
Great environment, live music on a Saturday evening, busy with great drinks selection & good efficient staff.
H. A.
Amazing cocktails and nice vibes. Try not to go when too busy and you'll get a seat
D. P.
Love this place so much ... especially when they have live music... only downside is the amount of time it takes to get served at the bar
K.
Lovely quirky place. Prices are what you expect to be in the centre of Birmingham. The food and drinks that we had were nice and everyone was satisfied with the quality of food. Personally I feel the portion sizes could have been a bit bigger. Not the biggest selection food wise but a nice big selection of drinks. Staff were polite and friendly.
C. A. (.
This place is very busy and extremely expensive, hence 4 stars, however the drinks are nice and presented in a nice way. Bar tender appears to be a professional which brings the rating up, however personal belief is that drinks are not worth the price. £4 for one shot of sambuca.
G. B.
Several choice of fabulous cocktail. Really beautiful decoration, and some concert are organized! Love this place.
J. P.
Quirky location with a vintage theme and a lot of wood paneling. Large bar with perhaps not enough seating if you just want a drink, although it wasn't an issue for us. Friendly bar staff. Food range looked good. Went as part of Birmingham Cocktail Weekend so did not eat. Good range of cocktails and featured a large gin menu
N. W.
Gr8 fd nice staff but they need to drop the service charge it doesn't have to be there peeps 😉
P. M.
This is totally not what I expected-it's brilliant.
Great place for cocktails with an extra special place you can hire for special occasions.
Food is available but I only sampled canapes (which were yummy) as part of a group evening.
Could easily spend the evening here although a bit pricey so I would save for special occasions.
Each to their own in the finance department.
Def a great place to socialize.
A. W.
Love this place, went Sunday, lovely Sunday lunch but disappointed that on Sundays they don’t do scotch eggs or chicken and chorizo hanging kebabs, good excuse to go back in the week
L.
Came for dinner as part of a hen party. Unfortunately due to restrictions we had to split our tables into two, but it was still a great night. The food was delicious and the service was flawless. Would definitely come again.
S. G.
Great drinks, fun atmosphere, incredible eye for detail. We also ate food was truly lush.
M. S.
Had a table for 7 people. Great food good sevice. A realy good meal out.
l. m.
Great bar, love the decor, lovely to listen to live music, drinks a but pricey but didn't put us off
V.
Great service, attentive and friendly staff, zero attitude. Very busy on evenings but they seem able to cope. Recommended!
M. D.
We ate here on Valentine's night which was also for a birthday celebration.
We LOVED it!
Booked in advance and was seated quickly - Given a lot of little freebies and vouchers which was a nice touch - Complimentary drinks at the nearby Hotel Chocolat and a facial treatment at a new shop nearby.
Our drinks were nice and were presented in fun and quirky bottles with dry ice steaming for effect.
For starter we had the hummus with some olives which we would recommend.
Olives had a seasoning on them which we think made them far too salty so we would ask for them without this next time.
For mains we both had the vegetarian option off halloumi and falafel hanging kebab with chips. The garlic sauce was AMAZING! We could not fault the kebab.
There is a Vegan menu avaliable so there is plenty of choice.
We would most definitely visit again! Nice relaxed atmosphere with a live acoustic singer to top it off 😁 #HappyCustomers
G. C.
Food really ace and different and staff friendly .... Make sure u book on main days though.. 5 star
J. K.
This a lovely place and the food is really delicious....the reason for 3 stars? You get a 2 hour slot which isn't enough for a relaxing meal and a catch up with friends, it's too far to go all the way to Birmingham for 2 hours. We weren't even asked if we wanted a dessert but were told we had 10 minutes left. Saying that I would go again if there was no time restriction
B.
Really great place. Beautiful decor, relaxing and great atmosphere. Food is simple and done to an excellent standard
l. s.
Ate here last night four of us , we all had different dishes. I had the hot sharers as a main ( very tasty and a lovely selection) l also had a beet pina colada, amazing . Everybody enjoyed their food. I would definitely recommend it and if I come to Birmingham again I will return .
C. W.
Had Sunday lunch yesterday ,tiny portion of lamb, vegetables cold, needs to be improved.
A. L.
Amazing cocktails and lovely welcoming staff
H.
Lovely cocktails and atmosphere, can't wait to go back
H. C.
We had a good time, staff are polite, cheerful and helpful. Good selection of cocktails and the atmosphere is good. There are smokers outside as you come in.
r. g.
The layout and interior of this place is nice. However the food and the customer service was mediocre. I had prawn and chorizo starter and seabass with 'salad' and coleslaw. The food was so bland and unexciting. If I returned again it wouldn't be for the food
K.
Took a while to get served. Bar staff not keeping track of who has been standing around for a while and they are the sober ones. Not much seating areas for bar area and our drinks were very watered down we so had the one and left.
L. P.
Glad that the person at front at the sense to put us away from the crowds. Thank you. Food was ok but came out very quickly. Felt rushed.
m. a.
The selection of Gin is fantastic and would love to work through it. The food was only ok. The fish in the fish and chips had burnt better.
J. T.
Great place for a cocktail, affordable, delicious and fast service even though it was busy
A. S.
Amazing place.
Excellent customer service.👌🏾
Wide array of drinks.
And a spectacular architecture to make for a cozy environment.
Would recommend for indoor, outdoor or indoor with sun roof drinks.
b. p.
Thoroughly enjoyed drinks here good atmosphere for a Monday night.
A.
A great place for unique cocktails and a good selection of bears and ales. We recommend the "Pots and Planters" cocktail selection - the bar staff were friendly and entertaining. There was live music the night we went, it was well suited to the chilled, trendy atmosphere of the place. Perfect for dates or meeting with friends.
K. L.
Yes really nice restaurant, good food, excellent Pina colada. Nice wine . Busy place, lovely live music, reasonably priced. I will go again
E. H.
We booked in to do the gin tasting class and it was absolutely fabulous! So much fun, we didn't stop laughing! May have been the alcohol lol but it was great value for money and a nice way to start a girls day in Birmingham, got us all in the mood for a day of fun, drinking and dancing!
A. P.
Great cocktails and a lovely setting. Staff are very knowledgable and even offered to make my friend something off menu that she really fancied.
S. C.
Our waiter Jack was brilliant and a great Sunday lunch with really good veg. Will go back and would recommend 👌
J. V.
Fantastic food and and amazing service staff. Highly recommended especially the hanging kebab's.
D. B.
Great cocktail bar in the centre of Birmingham was packed on a Saturday night had plenty of cocktails on the menu and a few beers on tap. The atmosphere was great and there was a dou singing and playing guitars which was also good.
D. W.
Excellent cocktails and service. Often very crowded and noisy which is no surprise due to it popularity but don't let this deter you, it's certainly worth it for at least 1 or 2 drinks.

I loved the atmosphere, I loved the décor and I loved the drinks. The live music was just an added bonus. I wished we could have found a seat but there was more than enough room for everyone. Will be returning.
T. S.
Good place to meet friends, friendly staff some covid-19 restrictions followed by some staff and customers, good choice of drinks, beers and spirits
E. E.
Quite large very nice place with super atmosphere. Fair prices. Recommended!
S. B.
Very good service and food was lovely will be visiting again.

Been here twice now, first time we didn't book and it was extremely busy, had a drink (big wave, which is rare to find!) and some camembert which was amazing. This time we booked, if you sign up to the newsletter online they give you a free bottle of wine!!! The camembert was again snagging, the waitress very kindly told me not to order another starter as the camembert is ample for 2 people! Mains were very tasty and service was amazing throughout. A tad pricey.... but overall worth it.
D. M.
Service was great, food was fantastic, really worth a go
N. C.
Not as 'pretty' ad others in the chain, but great atmosphere, food and service.
M. M.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience and really enjoyed the food here. We recommend booking a table in advance, which is what we did. Our waitress Lily was wonderful and very friendly. We really asked a lot of her because we kept ordering throughout the night. The food was great but what really sets this restaurant apart from others is the atmosphere and the drinks. There are plenty of alcoholic and none alcoholic drinks to enjoy.
R. A.
Fabulous place. Delicious food. Great friendly service
C. F.
Good atmosphere, busy but no problems getting drinks
S. H.
Ordered the watering can cocktail...serves 6 drinks i think we managed to get 8 between 4 of us... the cocktail was tasted beautiful and i think it was £25 not bad for 8 drinks staff were lovely we did have to wait a while for our bill but they were very busy and i didnt mind
s. k.
Great service from our waiter Ben who made our dining experience amazing.
K. F.
Lovely meal, bartender very friendly. Nice atmosphere
D. A.
Very busy but good bar I remember this place when it was a recruitment agency I used to work here. Its been done up very well and cocktails are lovely
S. D.
First visit great evening good choices of cocktails and drinks lovely evening had see you again very soon.
J. D.
Loved the food here, has a Camembert bread bowl, was delicious, then had the haloumi kebab, again delicious.
Nice building, with interesting decoration, nice staff and felt pretty covid safe.
Had an entertaining encounter overhearing on the table behind us that they felt entitled to an extra half an hour on their booking because they bought a bottle of prosecco, giving the staff less time to clean down their area.
O. P.
I only visited the bar. The drinks were fun to watch being made, and even better drinking them. They also had a live musician play some of my favourites. The train station is a short walk.
D. H.
Nice bar, but expensive and a long wait time due to cocktail orders
M. S.
A really good bar & restaurant in the centre of Birmingham. The food was delicious and the menu will suit all tastes.
J. Y.
Amazing. Excellent service. Food was tasty. Cocktails were beautiful. Quite expensive but you get what you pay for.
R. S.
It was nice place... had awesome drinks... food looked good
R. J.
Nice bar but it's more for those that want to look trendy rather than wanting a drink
M. T.
Super fancy cocktail menu, very nice and friendly staff, a very quirky and pleasant setup.
H. S.
My cousin and I wanted a Sunday roast on their website said they were. They were not. What we did have calamari, fish and chunky chip, halloumi burger with fries and long stemmed broccoli. Everything was delicious. Staff very friendly.
J. D.
Amazing decor in this place and the cocktails are fabulous. Makes going to a cocktail bar a much more interesting experience!
S. R.
Nice bar, plenty of room and good service, decent beers
J. D.
Beautiful tasty cocktails and the old fashioneds were lethal!! 😋
R. T.
Lovely food, great service need I say more.
M. B.
The hanging kebabs are lovely. Our server Jack was great, and everyone said Happy Birthday to me!
D. C.
great atmosphere visited last Saturday with our group & enjoyed ourselves
J. M.
Fun and querky. Great food and drink. Excellent service.
S. C.
I absolutely LOVE this place! The cocktails are amazing, they are as pleasing on the eye as they are on the tatsebuds! I love the mix of rustic/antique/contemporary decor, the food looks awesome and I've heard it's good but so far I've only tried the cocktails, I will definitely be back for more though! It can get busy in here so expect to stand if visiting at peak times but it's worth it! Great bar, in a great location.
L. T.
Did the cocktail masterclass with George which was so much fun! It’s was a private class due to COVID which was really good!
B. C.
Good service. Varied selection as mostly burgers.
I. G.
Lovely food. Great atmosphere
J. S.
Great place and lovely cocktails. The old fashioneds are deadly!!!
R. L.
Lovely place for drinking and eating, advise to book if eating.
P. M.
Okay Great Atmosphere Not enough bar staff so you can wait a while for your cocktail Pull pork Burger wasnt great not a lot of meat but the hanging kebab was good
a. w.
I came here with a large group of people for dinning. We had a beautiful private room downstairs and fantastic service. The food was delicious! A great atmosphere in the bar area. Love the live music too! We had a wonderful time and can't wait to return! Thank you to Sue and the team :)
R. W.
Great night out. The food was lovely and the private room we had booked for our party was perfect!
A. S.
First time visiting after the Lock Down and I am so glad to report that even with fantastic measures in place for Covid the atmosphere has not changed a bit , if anything its better .
As always the food was Divine drinks amazing, always the first place and only place I go when visiting Birmingham.
Please everyone give this little gem 💎 of a restaurant the chance and custom , I truly have never been to a better place ever . Keep up the fantastic work you are Amazing 👏
S. B.
Excellent lunch out. Tasty, well-presented food, and attentive, friendly service.
A. R.
Food was limited. They didn't have a lot of the menu, but the food we did have was very good! Drinks were yummy and service was friendly.
C. I.
Love everything, the decorations inside are exquisite, staff is friendly and helpful, really good music for young people with taste but also a bit of street and some rock here and there. Cocktails are out of this world and the food deserves only praise great job chefs, good portions. Will come back
G. R.
Quite average venue. Good place for day drinks. The chain is similar throughout in most cities I've visited it in eg Manchester as well. Friendly staff.
D. D.
Our server was amazing and attentive. She was very helpful in assisting us with a perfect drink choice.
The hanging kebab is my favourite dish. The kebab dessert complimented it well, although we were so full. Amazing food!
M. R.
From the lady on the front desk to the lovely polite waitress and the food wow wow wow absolutely fantastic. So we will definitely be visiting again for food.also with are friends for drinks.thanks for are lovely experience on a Sunday afternoon my 9 year old daughter loved it especially as the waitress explained everything to her about her food.
E.
Lovely vibe, great service (little pricey, but it is the centre of town).
J. K.
Give me a rainy Sunday in Birmingham, with friends and a gorgeous cocktail bar and I'm in heaven! The Botanist is the best! 🥂
M. M.
Friendly environment and staff, decent prices and easy relaxed atmosphere
D. B.
Great staff amazing food great place to spend an evening
H. L.
Food was so good but the staff made us feel like we weren’t welcome. We were treated so differently to a lot of the other people here. Note: Don’t wear anything that isn't designer!
M. P.
Visited here on 21st May. Covid regulations are being followed and due to this you may have to wait a while in the que and tables can only be booked for 1hr 45min slots.
Cocktails 10/10
Food 10/10
Service 8/10 only because we had several staff come to our table throughout the meal.
Atmosphere was lovely inside and so was the decor.
H. Y. K. P.
I went to this bar for a drink, didn't expect that it was really amazing cocktails! The one called "botanist" almost killed me! Highly recommended
I. P.
Food was decent although choices were limited.
B. D.
Lovely cocktails and decor, but be prepared to wait a while getting served at the weekends, went on a Thursday night and service was swift and very friendly.
S. H.
Lovely cocktails, great decoration, can get busy at times therefore a bit of a wait at the bar, worth waiting for their bloody Mary.
R. L.
I like it. During covid they do table service and bookings so as to avoid unnecessary transmission. When the drinks came they were very beautiful and tasty. I got very drunk which was not my intention. I could not drive home. I had to walk home in the rain but because I was drunk it was not so bad. When I went to collect my car in the morning I was notified to a fine. Be aware that this is not a florist's nor a place where plants are studied. It is purely for social gatherings with beverages. There is a selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. I think next time I will go for the non alcoholic drink.
D. C.
Best time to visit is a weekend afternoon when the area has an atmosphere but can get served relatively easily. Been on weekend evenings a few times and found it difficult to get served quickly due to popularity of cocktails and don't expect a seat. However, there is a good range of cocktails covering long and short drinks. Often entertainment in form of guitarist singer covering a range of classics. Prices are comparable to other bars in the city of this type, if you just want a beer go to a pub! Not easy to tell which beers are on offer from the bar though so got to ask. Staff are friendly and smell from kitchen area is usually tempting although I've never eaten there. Worth a visit to make your own mind up. Definitely a place to take a partner rather than a group of blokes on a crawl.
L. N.
I went with my 3 sisters we were a table of 4. Decent prices I had the calamari which was wonderful my only gripe would be I wish there was more of it. It was packed out and busy we still got our food very quickly. Waitress was polite and professional even helped us take a photo. I also had the lamb kofta kebab with sweet potato fries (£1 extra to swap from normal fries) the lamb was lovely very filling you get 4 chunky meatballs with a sauce on the side. I would had dessert as they do my favourite (cookie dough) but we were all too full. The food was presented well. Staff were polite atmosphere was great would recommend that anyone try it. The tables are a bit like garden benches there were many families there & some with kids also.
B. W.
Good food. Very busy. Tables felt crammed in together.
L. T.
Delicious cocktails and a really good atmosphere with elegant decor. We didn't eat, but the food being served looked great.
R. C.
Great food but drinks bit expensive
S. M.
Went for lunch today for my birthday. Food and service were amazing!!
F. D.
I had my launch party for my lipstick line on 8th july and i mean the whole layout was seriously amazing i loved the bar tender that was on there to assist the drinks and the manager who to me looks like kourtney Kardashian (you know who you are lol) are seriously amazing staff amazing night and i will do more events here from now on thank you so much guys for your hospitality and professionalism xxx
m. t. t. t.
Busy, so it was hard to find a seat but worth it for the cocktails
T. S.
Came from London you had a really great bartender there

Great Place For Drinks
If you're looking for a quirky place to have amazing cocktails then this is the place for you. Great location right in the city with friendly and knowledgeable bar staff. On a cold night you must try their Irish Hot Chocolate....very moreish and strong :-)
H. T.
Lovely spot with a great range of cocktails and polite and friendly staff. Great way to retreat from the heat.
H. C.
Delicious food, especially for vegetarians or people who like something a little different ! This is made even better by the fabulous decor and attentive staff !
J. B.
A bit chaotic but food was great and we got a free bottle of prosecco as our food was a little late which was a kind gesture.
v. b.
Chef lost the ticket of our food so we had drinks and came back. The drinks were nice
H. S.
Great service, food was beautiful and the drinks were very nice
S. L.
Great place
Great atmosphere
Excellent food and service
D. G.
Nice atmosphere. Different food flavours.
J. Y.
Amazing. Excellent service. Food was tasty. Cocktails were beautiful. Quite expensive but you get what you pay for.
R. C.
Great cocktails. Fun place
M. D.
We ate here on Valentine's night which was also for a birthday celebration.
We LOVED it!
Booked in advance and was seated quickly - Given a lot of little freebies and …
L. P.
Excellent menu and atmosphere. Attentive staff
A. R.
Fantastic food and really lovely staff, well worth a visit
s. C.
Went for a birthday lunch, service was quite slow and it didn't seem that busy. The waiter lent on the end of our table which was a little uncomfortable, she also forgot our baked camembart. She apologised after swearing under her breath and offered to get it for us after we had our mains but I didnt fancy bread and cheese after steak and chips.....this was the only solution offered to us. I mean overall the food and drinks were good but service was quite poor.
C. H.
Love this place! Really delicious cocktails and fun to watch how they make them. Tasty good quality food too. And I love the live music. Only downside is that it can get very crowded in there and can take a long time to be served.
I. R.
I booked a Cocktail Masterclass for 6 people at The Botanist in Birmingham and we all had a really good time.
It was a great way to spend a Friday afternoon. Lots of laughs, conversation and participation in making the Cocktails.
Liam behind the bar was a very knowledgeable and entertaining host.
I would thoroughly recommend it.
g. p.
Lovelly setting. Really good staff, perfect cocktails and nice food
T. N.
Great bar, but a Saturday night can be an experience you won't want to repeat. Because of their excellent cocktails, you can often wait at the bar in excess of 20 mins. I keep suggesting to places like this that they need a 'cocktail serving area' so the people who just want a pint and G&T can get one without gaining grey hairs in the process. Lovely bar to go to when it's quite thought, highly recommend.
A.
Great cocktail bar and restaurant with a varied menu to choose from. Went on a busy Sunday for dinner and the atmosphere and service were lovely. Ordered a sharing platter to start - the smoked mackerel pate and a home made scotch egg were amazing. As for cocktails; there's plenty on offer but i couldn't get enough of their own classic The Botanist. Just a great place with a nice laid back vibe.
M.
The food is real nice and staff are real nice to, the venue is well set out with contemporary and traditional features including the original fireplace
L. W.
I went to the botanist lunch time and was greeted at door by Sue who took my details to comply with covid rules. I was shown to my table and given the menu but I already knew what I wanted. I had spotted the hot platter when I went past a few days before. The platter was patatas bravas, scampi, pork cubes, chicken and lamb meatballs which I asked to be left off. I don't like meatballs. I also had an English mojito (and then another one) it was delicious. The food was delivered quickly and was well presented. The pork was well cooked and very tasty as was the scampi. The patatas bravos is a big favourite of mine and I wasn't disappointed it was perfect. The chicken was tender and tasty. For dessert I had an ice cream trio of chocolate, caramel and pistachio that I really struggled to finish but it was too nice to waste. The staff are very friendly and helpful and a really nice touch was the chef taking time to thank me for visiting the botanist. I would recommend the place to anyone. It was my first time there but it won't be my last. Thank you to all the staff for making it so enjoyable
R. G.
Stunning range of gins and moderately expensive. Decor is shabby chic. Foods quite good but it's more of a drinks place but there are lots of tables. It's not the warmest or most comfortable place so I'm not a huge fan. It does have great staff which is the real positive.
A. R.
Great experience here, with a good range of drinks and a great menu. Hanging kebabs are a must. Really interesting and different decor with a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Service was very prompt and efficient from very friendly and helpful staff. Definitely a place to return too.
R. M.
Lovely bar and great drinks offerings. Came here last weekend and the overall atmosphere was excellent. Will certainly be visiting again and I recommend to anyone looking for a nice bar in Birmingham. Conveniently located by the centre of town and are a number of clubs surrounding the area. Highly recommend.
A. B.
Good finishing standard. Team to be more attentive to waiting custom
R. E.
Really nice food and great ambience!
P. J.
Always busy with great atmosphere. Decor is cool- love the chandeliers. Good range of drinks too
D. T.
Amazing atmosphere, and a large selection of unique cocktails you are bound to never have tried.
P. N.
Amazing place with great cocktails and good food. Loved the hanging kebabs. Would have given five stars if the hostess wasn’t so rude. Having booked a table, we didn’t expect to be seated in a used table without cleaning it first. Furthermore, she served my cocktail with an unusual paper straw which made it difficult to enjoy my drink. If I had only been served by her I wouldn’t go there again. However the rest of the crew were friendly and so would give it another go.
V. T.
Amazing cocktails and fun atmosphere!!
M. M.
Great atmosphere, food and drinks. The hanging kebab is "famous" and highly recommend!!
L. S.
Ordered some cocktails and a decaf coffee. A tallish lad behind the bar with ginger/auburn hair explained that unfortunately they were out of decaf coffee. When I asked to refund the coffee he refunded our whole round of drinks as a gesture of goodwill! Very unexpected and polite service!
Thank you to the bar staff who served us, you were all very friendly and well mannered. And thank you for a chilled evening. We'll be back if we're back in Birmingham 😊
M. P.
Excellent experience. Unique style and comprehensive drinks menu. The food was nicely presented and delicious although the scampi was a little soggy. Price was fair and staff were pleasant. Music was a little loud at dinner and the furniture could be a little more comfortable but overall 5 stars because 4.5 isn't an option. Worth a visit for any occasion.
J. D.
If you've been to one you've been to them all. Same decor themes couldn't tell the difference. Very pricey but for the freshness of the ingredients in the cocktails are worth it. Beers from the menu are expensive especially now most of them are available in local supermarkets. Overall good variety of drinks quite a nice place
J. H.
Awesome place, really nice atmosphere and the food is delicious. Try the hanging kebabs, really tasty and something a bit different.
We were there as a large group, and the staff looked after us brilliantly, drinks and food always came quickly and all together. Can't fault it for a good meal.
E. M.
It's really lovely inside. The staff are very friendly and knowledgable and the cocktails are great 😊
P. J.
Went there today for the first time. The food and cocktails were amazing. The signature Botanist cocktail was possibly the best cocktail I've ever had and I've had a few.
R. W.
Big benches wicked drink list and attentive staff
C. C.
First time at any "Botanist" and it was pretty good. I think the appearance of everything you eat and drink is overall the biggest strength of the place. It tastes nice but your paying for that "Instagram moment" more than a substantial dining experience.
M. “. O.
Good atmosphere and nice bar to start the night in
J. H.
Fantastic atmosphere, service, food and drinks
V. D.
Great place and service. Great food too
T. H.
Had fantastic food here yesterday. We enjoyed the starters so much we ordered it twice. The pork scratchings, spicy sausage rolls and baked camembert in sour dough were real winners. Thanks for the best taste experience
P. W.
Great bar with friendly staff and a great atmosphere
C. Y.
Fantastic sunday lunch. Drink offers needed or expand the bottomless drinks menu
H. V.
We visited as a table of 12 on a Sunday evening. There was live music which was great. The decor is also beautiful. Unfortunately a few people in our group had items missing from their order e.g. side salad and sweet potato fries instead of normal. My risotto was also cold, as was the lady's next to me. Overall it was a good visit and the waitress did resolve the problems. Would visit again.
M. T.
Great venue with good food choices and impressive cocktails. Only comment would be that the wait at the bar was quite long. But would definitely return. My steak was yummy but would have a hanging kebab next time as they looked amazing.
L. C.
Lovely atmosphere, brilliant cocktails. Staff super helpful
Z. R.
Visited on Saturday evening and it was a nice evening, we didn't eat but we really enjoyed the drinks. There was a singer on who was good, but it was much too loud for comfortable conversation. I'd like to return on a weekday to try the food as the place was really well decorated and the menu looked great
C. M.
Best cocktails. Amazing choices. Absolutely love this place!
C.
Lovely bar with great decor. Not too rammed even on a Friday. Food is ok but not wonderful. The only downside is the music which is too loud and you can’t converse without having to shout. Bar staff very nice, especially the Spanish guy.
T. K.
Had a great time at The Botanist yesterday! A lovely buliding, great staff and fab food. The Cauliflower Wings and Scotch Egg are two of the best starters i've ever tasted!
K. H.
Great drinks, great food and the staff (our server was named Joe) were all super helpful and made great recommendations.
I. G.
Pricey artty farty bar, nice place and good decor. Food is nice and others that ordered food around our table looked good too. If nearby pop in for food but, personally I would book for a party of friends to go there, I'd feel as though they'd be disappointed.
S. V.
Good food, decent service Burger was served on tiny wood platter would have preferred something larger. Nice ambience and decent collection of beers albeit very pricey and all bottles were 330ml. Got discount off food via their app so that was a good night .
D. T.
This place is beautiful. Great cocktails. Good booze. Craft beers. Friendly staff. They had a live singer with his guitar that wasn't half bad when we went. Clean bathrooms. Plenty of seating, but can take a while to be served.
M. M.
Lovely quality food, great cocktails, nice atmosphere and good service even when busy. The live music on a sunday lunch visit was fantastic. Dropped a star for accessibility - first time visiting since I've had children (I wouldn't say it was really a family orientated kind of place but my mum wanted to return here for her birthday lunch as we'd enjoyed it previously) & I'd forgotten that access to the bar/restaurant is up a flight of stairs. Not ideal with a buggy - not sure how wheelchair users can get in but presumably they have a ramp / lift somewhere which I just didn't see. Fab place however for a night out or a relaxed afternoon meal.
C. L.
WOW Its a very stylish place with excellent food. The hanging kebabs must be tried but be warned, the kebab portion size is a little small so get plenty of extras or get an extra one if you are really hungry. The deserts are also excellent and the range of drinks really impressive with great draft lagers and awesome cocktails. It gets very, very busy and you'll need to book a fortnight in advance if you want to eat which to be honest if they managed the tables a little better they could do more servings as half the full restaurant was empty if you know what i mean. A definite place to visit and well worth eating there too.
H. R.
Great food, good service and lovely decor.
The table we sat at was very high, making us feel like we were five years old again, but that's the only bad point we ( 7 of us) had, everything else was great.
One of my daughters had the "Botanist" signature cocktail and it looks very nice, but tastes of fresh soil, yes really, so one she'll give a miss next time! Thank you for a lovely meal and excellent, pleasant service.
S. H.
I have never received bad service at The Botanist. The food is fantastic every time and there is a great selection of quirky cocktails. Staff are always friendly and happy to answer my questions. Thanks for a great day!
P. T.
Tad pricey but nice vibes & food
A. V.
They were amazing. The staff couldn't do enough to help.
L. D.
First time here loved it.. friendly staff food good and drinks.. reasonable prices
J. T.
Great food, service, and atmosphere
T. A.
This branch of The Botanist is exceptionally well thought out with rustic style fit out with contemporary food + beverage menu. Staff were V G and Sunday lunch was delightful for my family party. They offered a 40% discount on food in January if I downloaded their App . It saved £20+ on the total bill. Thank you Sara , Claire and the other helpful waiting staff and of course the 3 + chefs. Great Roast beef , Yorkshire pudding and veg selection for me. Like home cooking at ours best The portion of roast chicken chosen by my wife defeated her in the end! If you're in Birmingham City Centre , Temple St, I would highly recommend this you. The price of their meals is justified by their overall quality and upmarket ambience. Thank you. We will be back again soon.
r. a.
Adam in the downstairs bar goes above and beyond thank u so much because it was manic.
D. R.
Could be amazing. Just need to ensure they have more than one mixologist at the bar when busy, as cocktails aren't exactly fast.
What you do get is a nice atmosphere, good food and some amazing fresh, attentively prepared cocktails and so is very much worth coming.
N. K.
I went to botanist yesterday after quite a while and I had such a lovely meal and the atmosphere was amazing too. Truly a place where you can let your hair down and enjoy a high quality cocktail with some good comforting food. I would definitely highly recommend this place if you haven't been there before. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially Aisa, she was very down to earth and during our meal gave us a complimentary bottle of wine too. I love going to the botanist it's a really nice place just to hang out n unwind..
A. H.
Lovely decor, slow service x
D. M.
Great lively place, visited Sunday night and had easily the best service we've had in all of Birmingham. The barman (the one with the beard) impressed all ten of our group. He had the ability to take orders and pull pints, not an ability many bar staff in Birmingham seem to have! Our party, being all Irish were well appreciative of the efficiency of service and good beer!
A.
Plant pot cocktails! Do I need to say more?
The food was also pretty good. Definitely worth a visit
J. B.
First time at any "Botanist" and it was pretty good. I think the appearance of everything you eat and drink is overall the biggest strength of the place. It tastes nice but your paying for that "Instagram moment" more than a substantial dining experience.
A. F.
Music venue with live music every night, great bar and a restaurant.
Different band every night, great musicians and singers really uplifting. Brilliant coktails really good choice of ales for the beer drinkers.
Fantastic night out. I'd 5 stars for that. It's lit.
If you want to eat here, it's good pub food, very pleasant but nothing to rave about. If you come it would be for the music and the drinks.
5 stars for the music and the drinks and 4 stars for the food which is perfectly fine but if you just want a dining experience, pick somewhere less lively.
By the way I am never out of the place but is more for the buzz the feed.
A. C.
Love a Botanist! Great cocktails, well prepared and crafted, I especially liked the one shaken with aquafaba. Lovely decor, if needing maybe a few more tall tables as it can get busy yet seems fairly open with space.
L. F.
LOVED my first visit! They do so much so well; decor, staff, live music, ambience & quality/presentation of food. Only dropped a star because of the very limited food options for Vegetarians (that's me) & complete lack of Vegan options (my daughter). We could maybe have asked to adjust another dish to make it veggie or vegan but don't always want to be a nuisance asking. One Vegan option would be good, or suggestions next to other items on the menu, about how to adjust them, would be good.
B. T.
Pub is really quirky. Had live music, very talented musician. Drinks choice is fabulous. Food service is not great, very slow. Sunday lunch was a slab of beef, flat Yorkshire pudding and a variety of under cooked and over cooked veg.
D. W.
Lovely atmosphere and service, extensive drinks list and a unique interior. Most of the food was good but the burger I can’t recommend. Two very thin overdone patties with an uninspired salad inside. Even McDonald’s can do better than that. This, however, was the only poor point of the experience.
W. R.
Best barman in the city. Working in tandem, flipping bottles and mixing spirits to make the array of cocktails on offer. Perfect choice for after work drinks. The food we had is delicious, choose their hanging kebabs if you're unsure of what to order.
F. D.
Friendly noisy and atmospheric bar. Drinks expensive (Martini £10) and not much to write home about but a fun night has been had. Why does everyone want to drink pink gin when it's better clear.....
H. S.
Great service, food was beautiful and the drinks were very nice
V. F.
Fab place.nice ambience lovely staff
M. S.
Great way to spend a long lunch as part of a shopping trip to Birmingham. Fabulous cocktails, great food and a fine choice of dark ales that I was really impressed with. Not cheap and so definitely a bit of a treat, but 10/10 for value for money and great service. Can't wait for it to arrive in Coventry
R. C.
Popped in with a friend for a drink and enjoyed the experience.
We tried their signature cocktails with a horticultural twist (not sure if they'd call it that?!). Tasted great, reasonably priced and entertaining to watch getting made.
Nice location tucked away on a side street between New Street and the Business Quarter in Birmingham. Appears to mostly draw a business crowd on the workday evening.
It's a great place to hang out - lively atmosphere, very busy. We didn't try the food but what we could see looked great, all tables were snug and mostly for 2-4 people.
Only downside to such a popular place is that we struggled to find seats or a table as the place is packed. This can be a hassle with jackets and bags etc.
Service was alright, nothing outstanding.
Overall a great addition to Birmingham's bar scene.
t. p.
Great bar anazing cocktails
R.
Service was good and there is space to stand on a Saturday night, unlike most other bars but the atmosphere is still lively. However, unless you only want cocktails, it's difficult to know what beers they are serving as none of the taps have any lables on them so you end up having to ask what they serve everytime you go to the bar!
V. H.
Great lunch today! Highly recommend the scotch egg as the piccalilli is beautiful. Also the spicy macaroni cheese with the pork schnitzel - delicious. The waitress was super friendly and recommend the raspberry mojito which was so yummy! Love it here x
L. B.
Great food, fantastic cocktails and excellent customer service, specifically from Africa our waitress who did all she could to make our visit very enjoyable. I would recommend to anyone wanting amazing food and drink x
P. B.
Wonderful friendly atmosphere and great drinks. We were well advised by George, and he made us some amazing cocktails. The presentation is fantastic, and the taste was delicious. Try the namesake cocktail: Botanist

The food was actually very enjoyable. I was not impressed with the level of hygiene in the kitchen as there was a number of staff with long hair and beards, not wearing hair nets/beard snoods/gloves. Chips where cooked and then grabbed from a bowl and onto your plate with a bare hand. Also, in the toilets, directly Infront of a urinal, there was a spot like hanging almost 2 foot from the ceiling from a wire. That wasn't very pleasant. Other than that, food was a higher quality than most chain restaurants and the table service was decent.

Went to the botanist for a Christmas party. Really nice and relaxing atmosphere and good decoration.
I think it could also be improved by finding a way to cool it down a little. We were downstairs and it was really hot so I struggled to stay for a longer amount of time.

Had fantastic food here yesterday. The pork scratchings, spicy sausage rolls and baked camembert in sour dough were beautiful. Thanks for a great taste experience. very good!
S. C.
Very good , staff friendly, our wine came in an ice bucket and the glasses were chilled. A great selection of wines, not the bog standard same old same old. Some of the cocktails looked amazing.

My son recently had his wedding Breakfast and party at The Botanist in Birmingham. They had a fabulouse function area so we could be private. I have to say the food and service were first rate. Sue and her team looked after us really well. They did a great job of decorating the room and then the day ran seamlessly. It's a great venue and I would highly recomend it. Well done Sue and all the team. I know my son and his wife were thrilled. Thanks again
S. W.
Great cocktails, lovely venue with a really good vibe. The decor is amazing and quirky on places.
There are pitcher cocktails served in metal watering cans and chandeliers covered in all sorts of bits and pieces!
Such a gem of a place, so glad we found it!
I. S.
Food adequate but portions skimpy. Steak offered only as pink and well-done. Mine was more blue than rare so cold to eat. Bar service incredibly slow (inexperience?) and service lacking engagement. Nice quirky decoration. Wouldn't go back in a hurry.
T. S.
Very classy bar!!! Got a drink on the house as well lol. Will visit again👍👍👍

Katazyna made our visit here amazing and catered for a last minute Birthday suprise with sublime precision and genuine dedication. She's a wonderful asset to the Botanist. Overall a great place with a great vibe, tasty cocktails and nice food. Would definitely recommend.

Nice Cocktails with fresh fruits and other thinks

The Botanist allowed us to use there downstairs space for our charity quiz. The service that was provided was amazing, the staff at the bar were very speedy (which always helps) and everyone provided a truly great service! Would definitely recommend to anyone who is thinking of hosting a quiz night to use them!!
R. G.
It was okay but the food was disappointing (there were vegan options, but my falafel burger seemed kind of soggy, and it's definitely not a place for members of the We Want Plates campaign). It also seemed very noisy.
J. C.
Delicious food and great variety of gin and ale. Hanging kebab's are tasty and the sharing pudding called The Botanist Allotment is wonderful! Good prices and if you sign up to their loyalty scheme there are some great offers.
I. D.
Very nice place. Make sure you're well dressed otherwise you'll feel out of place. Expensive but great food and drink. Cocktails particularly good. Good atmosphere but can get very busy. Recommended for early after work drinks.
K. R.
Well I didn't eat here and it was a Tuesday night. The place was packed and the staff friendly. Some real ales and bar snacks were nice.
Cocktails served in watering cans is an unusual gimmick and they stick don't fresh herbs in them but it's more garnish than flavour
Seems very expensive for drinks though
J. W.
Nice cocktail bar and restaurant with a nice shabby chick ambience. The cocktails are solid and tasty. The bar staff is really nice as well. The ambience of the bar area is nice with a lot of day light flooding in throughout the day. The restaurant part of the place is tucked away on the other side of the place. Whilst still a bit noisy you don't get all the noise from the bar area. The food is decent but not special with a mix of burgers, salads and a good selection of vegetarian dishes. The me at skewers are pretty nice and filling. They do have live music quite often as well. Overall a very nice place to have some food or a few drinks, especially considering it is a chain. It definitely does not have a chain vibe to it.
G. s.
Good food, huge choice of drinks. Very loud when we were in there due to music, we couldn't hear our server most of the time and they couldn't hear us. At times we couldn't hear each other around the table. Tables have benches without backs and it is hard to get out as there isn't much space between tables.
N. D.
Delicious food and cocktails and very friendly service!
G. M.
Nice selection of beers and we were served by the most genuinely friendly chap! Nice relaxed atmosphere would recommend highly!
C. O.
It was a wonderful place. Great place to hang out
M. B.
Nice place for drinks and food and friendly staff
R. V.
Great food... Good service... 👍👌

Very nice bar but can be very busy on a weekend - The cocktails are really interesting and tasty, we purchased a cocktail that was served in a plant pot combined with a test tube full of liquid nitrogen, definitely recommend it if you see it on the menu. Bar staff seemed friendly too
P. J.
The Botanist is a chain but a one of the more up market ones. Not eaten here but its a relaxing place to come for a drink. It may be the amount of plants around the place but it always seem quite serene compared to the other busy pubs around this area. Food always looks good, will have to do an update after trying it! Quite an unusual layout with a "greenhouse-like" area on the front before a few stairs up into the main bar.
M. B.
Great variety of drinks. Would definitely recommend the cocktails here. Have a lovely downstairs function room to hire for occasions which has its own bar. I attended an event there and it was a very nice, cosy room.
J. S.
We went for food in cocktails was realy good food first class service even gave us a complimentary drink on the house as they didn't have our drink we wanted then we met Alin!!! What a top bloke he spent the time to talk to us gave us a drink he is a creadit to the place and will be back to see him soon if you go ask for Alin!!
a. e.
Lovely food and drink, reasonably priced. Nice setting, has a vintage theme throughout. Staff were lovely and food came quickly
A. B.
Great bar one of the better ones of the chain. Downside is waiting to be served. Let's have a separate cocktail bar area please. Every time we go in we are waiting for the staff to 'create' various cocktails. All we want are basic beer or mixers but have to endure the painstaking charade of cocktail creation. I've seen many just give up and move. This ain't great with the amount of actual cocktail bars opening up nearby where the regular cocktailers will no doubt flock to in future.
A. R.
Fantastic food and really lovely staff, well worth a visit
M. T.
My family and I meet up here every year. Howerver we won't be going again. Used to have greaot lunch menu but it has been grdereatly reduced with not a lot of choice. We ordered champagne....had run out. On a Friday. 2 other wines we ordered no stock. Waiter was very nice but mixed up our order and then kept pushing us to order dessert.
Z. R.
Booked in advance and had an excellent lunch and dessert, service was great, I’d highly recommend.
L. H.
Day time - food was great, excellent baby changing facilities and excellent entertainment for my 3 yr old. Ice cream was a lovely touch. Highly recommend. Night time - couldn't get served, really long wait, walked out.
J. G.
Fantastic cocktails and a very interesting menu, just a short 5 minute walk from either Snow Hill or New Street train stations. Potential to be excellent, just needs a more efficient bar service. Table service in the bar would be one improvement.
L. J.
Lovely place, very busy on the weekend (Saturday) when we attended. I class this place as "hidden Birmingham" as many people mainly know Broad Street.. there's so many great places in Birmingham and I'm proud to be a Brummie. 🍀
I. M.
Food luke warm. Asked for water 3 times ... never arrived. Waitress dropped a glass on the table and it smashed ... didn't say anything! Cleared it up but never brought a replacement! Food took ages to arrive so they offer free drinks.
My second visit. Wouldn't go back.
T. I.
I spent great time there, the drinks are nice and there are live performances which I love. We wanted though to order some food and we noticed there weren't any people at some tables in the restaurant for an hour. When we approached the staff they kept on telling us they were full that evening.
A. M.
Kind of liked it . Ambience , live music, staffs were really polite felt good to see they offered water at the restaurant sit outs to everyone before taking order which is a rare seen to find out, great varieties of cocktails, food was on little costly side as per the portion though but I enjoyed being there ☺️
S. R.
Booked for a hen do - I can't say it wasn't memorable. Fire alarm went off and we were all evacuated. That's not their fault but I took off stars because although they had our order a week in advance, the last girl got her main at 11pm for a 9pm booking. They heavily discounted our bill though so were good about it. Plus points - lovely surroundings and super yummy cocktails. Really enjoyed the pork skewers. If all had gone to plan it would have been perfect, just picked am unlucky night I spose!
M. S.
This is my second visit here and I love it just as much as the first. The food is so interesting and ingenious, offering choices that you might not realise you can't live without eating until you try them. I would highly recommend giving it a visit if you're tired of all of the chain restaurants that serve ready-packaged meals. If you *aren't* tired of such restaurants, give it a try anyway. I'm sure it will make you realise what you've been missing.
S. L.
Fantastic service and a great range a drinks to keep the wife and I happy! Thoroughly recommend the English mojito and the range of bottled beers. If you're eating try the salt and pepper onion petals on the side. Definitely returning.

Where do i start? At the beginning ...... we visited Birmingham for New Year. We went here on New Years Eve for drinks. Cocktails were excellent and G&T was surprisingly superb. Went back for dinner on New Years Day. We had starters and mains and all were wonderful. My wife had garlic mushrooms and duck and i had prawn and chorizo and shish kebab. Everything was really tasty and well priced. Gastro food standard in my opinion for a better price. Setting and atmosphere were great. Special mention to Claire who served us as she was spot on. Really made us feel welcome and took time to chat a little which i think always makes a difference to the enjoyment of a meal.
H. T.
Was here for a hendo bottomless brunch. The bar staff were amazing and never let the glasses stay empty 🙌😜❤️
A. M.
I had great service here and the food was delicious. I was just a walk in customer but they still managed to find a table even though it was busy. The decor is beautiful and the atmosphere lively yet cosy.
There was live music playing but it was around the corner from where I was eating so I could here it, but it didn't disturb my meal. I really enjoyed myself here
F. M.
I really liked the decor and the cozy feeling it gave me.
The food was good, the butternut squash pie was excellent and the sirloin was cooked to perfection.
Excellent array of craft beer and Gin.
I recommend the Botanist, if you are in Birmingham.
V. B.
Great quirky bar with a vintage Victorian theam producing signature in house seasonal cocktails.
Whilst it's a great addition to the city away from franchises and chains there is a few design faults.
Bathrooms are miles away from the restaurant in the basement. If you need to go expect to leave your companions for a while.
The restaurant is not very big and get booked up quite quickly in advance so you can't just be spontaneous.
They have a full bar team on peak shifts however with the bar becoming deep with customers again expect to wait a while for drinks. A great bar but it's become a victim of its own success, if you like a quiet drink, food and somewhere to sit this is not the place for you.
P. N.
a place to return to on any evening! great door staff and friendly bar staff. the upstairs atmosphere felt a little pretentious and upmarket ie. I felt old around all the students. As we were leaving the Botanist we were told about the downstairs bar by the door staff; so nice and really down to earth. We'll definitely be visiting the Botanist again!!
F.
Good cocktails although no fresh lime pieces in mojito
R. K.
Great place to go for a variety of cocktails. Alittle pricey with a short wait to get served but definitely worth a visit. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the cocktails they are making.
R. C.
Great cocktails. Fun place
C. D.
The atmosphere, choice of drinks and live at music on offer at the Botanist is fantastic. Nevertheless the bar gets very crowded at the weekend and service can be slow due cocktail orders.
H. V.
Nice food and atmosphere. Friendly staff. Reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
A. S.
Great place to visit in city centre of Birmingham. Delicious food and drinks.
b. y.
Wide range of well presented cocktails with other bar drinks and beers available. Pleasant surroundings and ambient live music. Highly recommended.
D. L.
Good food, varied and unusual choice on menu. Lovely atmosphere
Drinks very expensive and the service very slow!
It wasn’t that busy when we sat at our table but we had to ask the waitress a couple of times for our drinks to be brought to the table, and for the bill
Waitress didn’t appear very experienced
R. S.
Still one of Birmingham's finest bars. The live music is great and the theme exceptional. And now that the initial buzz had died down a little you can actually get to the bar and find some space to stand on a Friday night.
A. W.
Quite a stylish place, casual but strangely formal at the same time. The decor is quite quirky. Didn't eat, but the food looked good. Very good location for both New Street and Snow Hill stations.
P. K.
will definitely go back.A great place to eat & lovely cocktails, very pleasant staff and very helpful
loved it
R. B.
Love this place. Most recently visited it when there was live music which added to the great atmosphere.
Cocktails are amazing and the bar tenders are always great with their recommendations.
D. P.
Lovely cocktails and a pretty surrounding
H. M.
Excellent and friendly service. Lovely food - bottomless brunch.

Really amazing! Had the hanging kebab, calamari, and wings. All were excellent! Great cocktails and decor, even the bathrooms are lovely!
S. L.
Great place
Great atmosphere
Excellent food and service
S. A.
Had a fab time today cocktail making! Liam was a great host, kept the drinks flowing and the laughter coming! Such a great few hours cannot recommend enough!
A. R.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
Came here with a group of colleagues on a business trip, ended up coming in three days in a row. They have 40% off in Jan and plenty of choice on the menu to cater to all preferences and have something different each day. Would highly recommend the steak sandwich and the hanging kebabs for lunch options. Had a chicken Caesar salad with a sharing starter of baked camembert for the table for dinner on the first day. The camembert says it would share for 2, but it was huge, so could easily do more. Service was really attentive without being invasive. Decor is themed and cosy and when we were leaving from the dinner there was live music in the bar which was really good. Overall, great experience and even better at the 40% off food in Jan deal for My World members (their app) which made booking really easy and you also earnt rewards to spend at the bar. Can't go wrong!!
D. S.
The food was fine, but no more. Style over substance. Generally on the expensive side for the quality. The best aspects are the atmosphere and design of the place which are really beautiful. It's worth a look, just don't expect cheap or top notch food (it's fine, but pricey for middling quality).
J. S.
Having recently exhibited my art at The Botanist the night was a huge success not in a small part to the great surroundings and attention to detail the staff at The Botanist provided me and my guests.
Great night and great venue.
A faultless team. Thank you so much.

Nice venue, pints are fine but would steer clear of the cocktails

I love this restaurant very simple

Brilliant. Cocktail maker was amazing
S. S.
Had an enjoyable second time at the Botanist. Again to remark, the food isn't the best and neither is the price for what you get but the cocktails and theatrics for these cocktails which are brilliant. Look below at the Apple and Peach pot 😍
P. L.
It's a lovely place with original decor and good atmosphere. The beer and cider selection is really impressive, making the choice actually quite difficult. The food was good but not amazing. I'd recommend to book a table if you go in a larger group.
A. C.
Good lively atmosphere and nice food.
A. B.
Just the most fantastic staff on the Bar, Floor and Kitchen!! Just fantastic, can't wait to be back x
L. W.
Lovely meal. Great selection of food. Service was great too and felt safe with everything going on at the moment.
D. B.
Good location and outdoor seating. However, very disappointed with cocktails previously, having been served a terrible Bloody Mary that tasted more of lemon than tomato and that took 10 minutes to make!
D. G.
Nice atmosphere. Different food flavours.
J. S.
Great food and really helpful, cheerful staff. Enhoyed the visit, will return soon
J. V.
Love love love it here. Stopped by for lunch & both myself & my friend enjoyed a haning kebab each. My was sweet chilli chicken with a garlic butter. Wr shared a rocket & parmesan side salad along with garlic mushrooms. My friend had cookie dough dessert served with ice cream. I didnt hav dessert as there was nothing that appealed to me. Have to say that everything was cooked to perfection. Food was sublime & we both agreed we had mad the right choices. Staff really friendly & helpful. Def will return very soon.

Really cool bar for gin based cocktails. We tried the rhubarb and sage spritzer and thw peach and apricot smash. Both were lovely. Would definitely come again.
C. F.
Food good ,social distancing good ,service great ,tea very bad, would go again not have tea .
M. B.
Very interesting place to visit. We had great Sunday roasts. It's very busy in the evenings but almost empty when we came on a Sunday lunchtime. The live music was really good too.
J.
Tastey cocktails; unique presentations; interesting vessels used; fresh fruit in many cocktails; fun experience; nice ambience; slightly pretentious
g. b.
Nice place to go. Good atmosphere and food.
R. G.
The place is beautiful, the staff is amazing and the food is worth trying atleast once if your in birmingham. Weekends it definetly a place to come and have drinks the atmostphere is awesome you meet a bunch of cheerful people, positive vybs.
G. l.
Huge cocktail and ale ranges, live music some nights, great food. There's a quiet downstairs bar area where we sat and despite it being a Friday night and extremely busy upstairs there were plenty of free tables and no queue at the bar down there
S. J.
Atmosphere was great, they have a wide selection of drinks and everyone hit the spot, the decor is nice and clean, will definitely come again
G. E.
Nice bar with some great lighting and decoration, cocktails are good but it takes forever to get served so don't plan to order more than one drink here unless you are there for several hours.
A. R.
Amazing cocktails place. Also offers a nice menu for dinners. Atmosphere is cozy and the live music is great. Brilliant place, keep coming back over and over.
J. S.
Very busy and can take a while getting served at the bar but I love the place! The atmosphere is great and the drinks are good! Not cheap but it’s a good night out
W.
The cocktail combinations are good, but it's all expensive, noisy and mostly standing room only. Not the kind of place to come if you are interested in having a conversation.
S. H.
Food is amazing and staff are friendly and welcoming.
K. M.
Excellent concept bar, friendly well trained coctktail staff, happy to open the side door to disabled brother even when busy. Return to the bar each time I visit Birmingham. The Botanist house cocktail is a must.
K. D.
It's a busy place even on Monday to Thursday night. The cocktails are brilliant but weak. There are live music almost everything, I believe. I haven't try the food but they look nice. Sometime service can be quite slow.
M. T.
Food was beautiful
T. J.
Really close to New Street. Food was great. Good service. But the bar area was really crowded, as you would expect on a Saturday night. Steps up the bar and steps down to the loos, so not fab after a few drinks
E. B.
Good atmosphere with heated seating on the outside fronted area too. Sometimes they have live music on the bar area.
Also a restaurant with good food too.
