Reviews of The Canal House Bar & Restaurant

Was recommended to us only 15 mins before entering.
Beautiful place you have. Very busy on a Saturday at 4pm, but they found us a table for 2.
Service was impeccable, not just from our service but from all staff. Very professional.
The only down was the earphones staff have to wear stops a 100% staff service, we often had to say it twice and louder.
Would definitely recommend it 👌

Outstanding experience. Lovely Sunday lunch. Budvar on tap was very good. Staff were the best part, thanks for making our afternoon such a good one. Live music was great. Really recommend this place.
N. W.
Wow! That's all I can say. Beautiful setting and first class service, not to mention the amazing food at a reasonable price. Can't wait to go back. Varied menu but we had the roast. Meat was cooked superbly and if you had the beef they asked how you wanted it cooked. Amazing. Staff were friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble.

Nice pub located in the heart of Birmingham. They have multiple types of beer and a wide selection alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, even including kids section too. The menu also offers a selection of food.
They can sometimes have live music. Specially good on sunny days next to the canal.
Averege pricing.
G. G.
amazing food, drinks, atmosphere and clean facilities. lovely view outside of the canal or waterway. smoking at a distance does not disturb ones meal, pool tables and bar downstairs can cater for a different crowd/ setting to dinning experience - which is great
M. S.
Lovely venue at the heart of Birmingham's main canal. Great food and lovely staff. The cocktail menu was disappointing as it usually has more unique cocktails to try but unfortunately their new menu were more of the traditional cocktails which were nice but nothing too special which was a shame as when I had visited previously I always looked forward to the cocktails. I'm sure I will visit again as it is such a stunning venue especially in summer. .
P. C.
Absolutely awesome bar, service is amazing especially Andrew! Food is out of this world! We are only visiting but will certainly return just to come back to this bar!!

I wasn't very impressed with the choice of beers. I ended up with a bottle of wine, but I will still give them 4 stars for the food. The menu is unique, which makes a nice change. It's not too expensive but I still think the food prices are more than they should be. I would go back again but not very often.

Went for valentine's Day. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Food was a bit pricey (£35) for 3 courses.. 2 of the meals are to share. Food was very tasty, just thought the price was a little high considering we didn't get to separately choose our starters or desserts.
They took the drinks we ordered to the wrong table, and didn't notice for some time until our starters were served to us. They followed quickly with the drinks we ordered and even gave us complimentary cocktails for the mishap. Very happy with the service and the food.

First time experiencing The Canal House. Wow food amazing. Very clean premises. Our waiter went above and beyond. Please place the kids brownie dessert on the full menu. Thank you Christian for sorting my dessert 🍨

I went with my husband and family friends to The Canal House and we absolutely loved the Sunday Roast. The staff was really kind and welcoming. The drinks were really good too! Although it was raining raining pretty bad, the views were great and we can just imagine how much better it would be on a perfect day! So we will DEFINITELY come back! Thank you so much!
T. H.
Great place for really good and proper Sunday Lunch, 1 x meat eater and 1 vegetarian. Really good range of beers and wines to go along side. We were walk ins, but it got busier during the afternoon, so would recommend booking. Will definitely be going back.
M. G.
Very friendly staff. Service is excellent. Food very tasty.

Went here to celebrate my engagement :) atmosphere was lovely, food was delicious. Music was too loud for a restaurant though, and it made conversation difficult. We had communicated with them beforehand about our plans to have dinner with family, and then have friends join us for drinks, and they'd said we could keep the table for drinks and were happy with the numbers we gave them. The staff on the night didn't seem to be aware of what we'd agreed over email, and didn't want drinkers joining our table after food was over. It was a bit annoying as we'd put a lot of effort into communicating and sorting out our plan. Still, it all worked out well and we had a smashing night
K. H.
Fantastic location, right in the canal. My friend and I ordered desert only here. She has a severe gluten allergy, and the staff took the time to make sure their sticky toffee pudding was 100% gluten free.
There was a live singer, who was fantastic. Pricing was average and reflected the setting. Would go again!

Flying visit here, and it were a great experience.
No seating outside, tho our party did arrive when the area were heaving : customers enjoying the relaxed atmosphere by the canal.
We stayed indoors, and were treated to live music.
I’m not from Birmingham, but upon my next visit, I’ll pop in again.
C. H.
Excellent venue in excellent location. Great atmosphere and nice outdoor area. Only criticism is that it took AGES to get a drink. When someone orders a round of cocktails it seems to occupy the bartender for ten minutes. Doesn't take much of this for the wait to build up.
k. b.
Wonderful experience today at the cancel House. Beautiful service from our server Jake and staff. They are so professional and welcoming. The place is clean and food came out quick. Staff was helpful and stuck to covid guidelines.
Do book ahead as it is a popular place. Food was good. They cater for vegan people as well. Colsaw was nice.
L. G.
Lovely food lovely service. Food isn't over priced. Chicken hanging kebab is to die for
P.
Great place for my birthday meal with friends. Excellent service, friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you to Andrew for his friendly service and pausing to take a few photos of our group for us!
Delicious food and lovely atmosphere with live music but not too loud to still chat to friends. I was very grateful for a table tucked away from other tables but also near the door for fresh air. Felt very safe and socially distanced.
Thank you for an excellent evening!
S. S. P.
Very nice Hanging kebab. Good atmosphere. Lovely in spring and summer at the canal.
K. J. (.
This place is simply beautiful, from the interior and exterior your Instagram will love this. Gorgeous by day and night. The staff are lovely. We had the roast lunch, fantastic service making us feel like medieval kings. Place to play pool inside also outdoor sheds for a more intimate date. Amazing will definitely be going here again when heading up to Birmingham.
N. A.
A quirky, charming, gorgeous place for food and drinks. We celebrated a 30th birthday here and were incredibly well looked after by the lovely staff and well fed with the delicious food and cocktails. 100% we'll be back and recommending to friends!
N. P.
Been here a few times now and it's a great place to go for some food and drinks next the canal. We had a great Sunday roast, the veg was tasty and cooked well. I will definitely be coming here again and would recommend having this. For desserts we had the peanut butter and dark chocolate pot and the cheesecake which kept you wanting more! Definitely recommend having these!
N.
Came here for a Sunday roast as a family of six and very luckily found a table available. I have to say, the food was lovely! Between us we had the beef and pork belly and everyone enjoyed it. The sides are definitely worth a try too. Staff were very friendly and attentive throughout.
Definitely worth a visit.
f.
Excellent location. Very nice food and drink. Friendly and helpful staff.

Lovely food, brilliant location
K. S.
As for my first time, it was a generally pleasant experience. All the staff including security on the door were super approachable and friendly. The decor and atmosphere was very homely and friendly. As some of our party had been to previous location before being, we mostly had snacks. Mine was the baked camembert with bread and I had the espresso martini. The baked camembert was perfect, great combo of flavour and just enough for a light bite, however, the espresso martini was a little bland in my opinion and felt the price point was a bit off for what I got. Service was lovely by the host any other staff we interacted with. Will be revisiting for food but not cocktails I think.
K. O.
The staff were all really nice and friendly, especially the older guy behind the bar, he was really friendly and really lovely.
I preferred the downstairs bar, the upstairs was a bit too trendy for me. The downstairs is more chilled and reserved. The upstairs is for the trendy young ones.
Good selection of drinks and decent prices. I will deffo come back next time i am in Birmingham.
O. R.
This was my 3rd time visiting here with my girlfriend!
She had the steak and i had the pork belly hanging kebab. Wow the food was good.
The sweet chilli fries are a delight
L. M.
Amazing place on the canal, amazing food, amazing drinks..for amazing prices and the customer service was spot on, you never get customer service anywhere else like this anymore. Everyone made you feel welcome from the minute you walked in.
Definitely will be going again!
S.
The location is great, and the food was fantastic, but what made our night was the amazing service. All staff we came across were brilliant, but special thanks to Dylan for whom nothing was too much trouble and who answered all our random questions with good humour and a smile! (Also for asking me if I was old enough when I ordered Baileys in my coffee! 😂)
L. S.
A mixed experience. Visited during the day on a sunny Saturday afternoon and it was lively but by no means crowded. We were told to go to the downstairs bar, even though the upstairs bar was empty and the barman was just stood around cleaning glasses! We went downstairs and got straight to the bar only to be ignored. I'm 6'4" so it's not like I'm invisible. There were 3 guys behind the bar and they were awfully slow. After standing there for 15 minutes (not exaggerating) trying to get served we left. There were a lot of customers huffing and shaking heads. The guy to my right was there before me and he looked ready to scream... some say he's still there now waiting to be served! Why couldn't people get served at the bar upstairs?!
We called back during the evening as my fiancée wanted to try a specific cocktail they had. It was around 9pm and the experience was much better. The service was more efficient and we managed to get 2 rounds in without much hassle. We all tried a few different cocktails and they were all very tasty.
They had some little heated log cabins outside which is a nice option, plus there was a band on and they were great. Our evening visit was much better, it's just a shame we didn't get to enjoy a beer by the canal in the sun during the afternoon. We were going to grab some food too but I heard a customer get told that there was a minimum 45 minute wait so we didn't bother.
A. H.
Good atmosphere and decent food - perfect for a get together when attending an event at the Birmingham ICC
T. T.
Nice atmosphere, great serving, and excellent beer.
S. P.
This is a nice place with good vegan options and excellent service. The plant burger was very tasty as was the hummus starter. They have a good range of beers too and the prices were pretty good.
J. M.
Had a lovely meal this week ..service was very friendly.one of the staff is my son :) ..food was very fresh n tasty .hanging kebabs was a great hit n my fish n chips was lovely .. lovely start to a great night out at the theatre.will definitely come back
J. D.
Very friendly staff and served at the table. Some of the habits formed in the past few years are good to continue. I would recommend this pub in town.
J. S.
Always walked past this place, now lockdown had eased we thought a nice afternoon meal and drinking was needed.. 2 hour slot, booked online, food was amazing, found it bit pricey then realised we've not eaten out in 13 months, forgotten outdoor eating prices.. Loved the food, staff were friendly nice seeing people enjoying themselves
K. L.
Our second trip to the Canal House, for a Birmingham Jazz Festival event, was even better than our first.
We booked a lovely table with an excellent view of the band and the staff could not have been nicer - they couldn't do enough for us. We were not hassled at all, but fed and watered at regular intervals.
Distancing measures were good and everyone was wearing masks, so we felt safe. Will definitely visit again.
R. F.
The atmosphere and staff are pleasant here but we had a bit of trouble with our kids meal order. The main thing I want to write about is the amount of blue food dye that was in the kids ice cream and Jelly. Blue food colouring is highly controversial and blue 1&2 are both banned in EU for being harmful to children. SO MUCH DIE.. even though we removed from our child’s plate our fingers and clothes were still horribly stained. Aside from the trouble of over died food ruining clothing and skin and creating laundering problems for parents, Blue food colouring particularly is also widely known to cause behavioural issues in Children. Any observant parent can spot this. I would never allow my child to eat this much die in a sitting and as a rule when working with food dies if it is staining skin it is over died. Wish I had taken pictures of the carnage!
E. E.
First time I had been here. Lovely space to meet as a pair or a small group. Food is nice...and the cheesecake is good!
R. H.
Great food but a bit pricey and some of the portions are a bit small. The service is pretty top notch and they have a couple of pool tables downstairs.
T. R.
Approached the bar on my 29th birthday and was initially turned away, upon letting him know it was my birthday he was kind enough to let us in and escort us to the beer garden where we could celebrate, enjoy drinks in a lovely atmosphere with a view of Birmingham canals. The bar staff were on point with drinks, it was a shame they don't accept cash at all, however the service was superb. Pool tables are extortionate prices but well kept and you can really see they try to keep the right clientele. Big thanks to the lovely door man, who checked up on us to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and made the night special!
C. D.
Fantastic evening for a family meal. Lovely food and a great atmosphere. The live music was an unexpected treat too. Our host/waiter was attentive and he was really friendly. We will certainly return again. Cheers!
M. L.
Booked a table of 11 for a wedding celebration. Food was good and no issue. Drinks of prosecco offered to newly weds. However on a total bill of £270, they charged us over 25% in service fees / tips. A little bit excessive given that the customary rate is about 15% and the staff didn't do anything special to justify such a high tip charge. We still paid them 20% in tips fees but won't be going back again.
A. H.
Looked nice, great location. But really poor choice for vegetarians and then 2 of the 4 options they had for Veggies were sold out anyway. Didn't eat there as we had to leave to get food somewhere else.
G. J.
Very average pub food with a very premium tariff. Not a place I would return to with my hard earned money. However, staff were helpful and a pleasant setting to relax with a drink. Just avoid the menu. Its far too expensive considering the options available.
T. K.
Lovely pub on the lower floor with pool billard and often live music, excellent restaurant on the upper floor. Seats outside either on terrace or balcony. Food was great, atmosphere outstanding. The whole location is styled in a cosy vintage style.
Had excellent Hawaiian beer and a proper meal. However the meat, though served medium was kind of dry, thus 4 stars.
C. B.
Honestly beautiful! Such a lovely experience. Great staff! Great service! Great food! The live music was so good I thought it was a Spotify playlist. Can’t wait to visit Birmingham to come back.
J. S.
Nicely themed pub. Wide selection of beers, though traditional bitters aren't on tap, but are available on bottles
K. P.
The staff were great and really friendly. The hanging kebab was really tasty. Could do with more of an accompaniment included. No decent draught ales on tap which was a definite let down for me.
O. B.
Incredible service from Sam. Came here with my boyfriend for our first years anniversary and Sam really went above and beyond to make the experience the most romantic. Food and drink was brilliant, especially the calamari. Will be back!
A. M.
I absolutely love this place! It's incredibly beautiful and the food is really nice. I especially like the burgers. Some of the friends I've gone with are vegetarian and they have always enjoyed the vegetarian options. If the weather is nice, the terrace is lovely. The cocktails are mind-blowing!
N. S. C.
Excellent food but was very disappointed with the service. Made a booking for Friday night but when we turned up they didn't have a table for us. Was told we could sit outside but it was dark, you wouldn't even have been able to see what you were eating so we left. We made another booking for Sunday night. It was very quiet so this time there was a table for us. Unfortunately after nearly 20 mins nobody had asked us for drinks or food order. My partner had to go the bar, then to be told someone would come and take our order. It was quiet, we shouldn't have had to wait as long as we did. Like I said the food was excellent but the service extremely poor.
S. C.
Lovely location on the canal, great “Peaky Blinders” vibe outside when it’s dark and rainy. This is a large pub that serves good, reasonably priced food. I went for the hanging kebab (pork belly) which was tasty, albeit a little fatty. The Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwich for dessert was interesting, but way too dry and not very good. The staff are very friendly.
P. W.
Very nice location, recommend the hanging kebabs
s. w.
Cosy bar, nice subtle background music. Still able to hold a conversation.
Quaint location good beer/wine.
What's not to like.

Had a wonderful hour and half here! Came for drinks and an afternoon meal with the girlfriend. The barmaid who served us was amazing! Went above and beyond to make sure we was okay. Food was decent and the cocktail I was to die for!
E. B.
Expensive, but lovely cocktails! The watermelon daiquiri was a highlight and one i shall remember for a long time! We also went for the football during the euros and managed to watch England beat Denmark! Great atmosphere and experience!
N. J.
Nice venue and range of beers. Large well set up outdoor area.
Lost one star because if you order a beer on app but the staff try to deliver it calling it by another name then everyones confused. I had to go inside to chase part of my order.
V.
Attended on preview week and was HUGELY IMPRESSED with the venue, location, service and quality of food and drink. The Budweiser Budvar lager on tap was delicious. Black pudding starter and lamb kofta mains were excellent. Really nice decor too. Highly highly recommended!
M. W.
Held my finacees 40th here and from the initial enquiry to clearing the table they were amazing.
The team couldn't do enough for us, going as far as to let us keep her cake in their fridge till the right moment.
Both the service and food was excellent and I cannot thank them enough for enabling a such wonderful evening.
We will definitely be returning the next time we're in the city. I cannot reccomend them enough.
R. Z.
Friendly staff, good food and selection of drinks.
R. G.
Lovely place to visit specially during summer time day or night it's a chill spot drinks are amazing food is good staff is amazing. Great place for a date. Beautiful setting specially at night when the lights light up romantic atmosphere very nice place. Weekend it's definetly a place to have drinks before heading out with friends they make some mean shots !!! Hope my tips are helpful enjoy your time guys.
T. S.
I like this place and it was a very nice surprise to have wonderful music from a live pianist singing and playing. Food was originally presented and deliciously cooked. Atmosphere was friendly and the service was very good and fast. Decor was very interesting.
C. C.
Loved it here, very cozy atmosphere with nice lighting, and just taking in all the decorations could take hours. Very friendly and helpful staff, and there was even live music while I was there for lunch - a very talented acoustic singer. Otherwise, the mood music was fairly muted, a good background for nice conversation. There are several areas with tables - the ground floor with a bar, the upper floor with a great skylight and an outside terrace, and the tables outside on the dock level. Will definitely return.
J. h.
Fantastic location, beautiful building and design, great food and excellent selection of beer, wine and cocktails.
G. B.
One of my favourite pubs in Birmingham. Incredible location, friendly staff, great food. Love it here.
J. M.
Another excellent meal after work with colleagues - The Food gets better and better with every mouthful even decided to have a dessert when I normally have a Starter and main - Dee-licious 👌
Definitely recommend The Canal House for bite to eat 🔥🔥🔥🔥
J. R.
Came here after work, food is really nice e would recommend the kebabs they are pretty good and chips were spot on, would defo come here again!
A. F.
One of the best pubs in Birmingham. Lively atmosphere, live music every night from 8 till 10 Monday to Thursday and 10 pm till midnight Friday and Saturday. Great coktails, nice food and lovely staff. They have two open smoking terraces, as the pub is on two floors, overlooking the canal. On a sunny day you would struggle to get a table.
K. W.
Food was nice but no atmosphere. Staff weren't very attentive. Okay to eat but for a night out I would move on somewhere else.
A. M.
One of the best recent food experiences! Great meals (right portions), very polite and helpful staff, live music! Can't wait for the summer to enjoy the terrace views. There's also a parking at the back!
D. B.
Great food. Great service. Great selection of beers. Decent prices. Overall really good experience here.
M. E.
Nice-looking building right on canal.
Had a Sunday roast which was very tasty and well presented on the plate.
Staff were very friendly and one person even bought my daughter out more hummus and carrot sticks as she loved them.
And as you can see from the photo she really enjoyed the strawberry ice cream!
j. d.
Lovely waitress, very friendly and bubbly! Good venue and great dessert, not the best Sunday roast I've had but also not terrible.
T. F.
Great spot by the canal, saw a few barges go by whilst eating a nice meal.
S. S.
I like places where you can explore many interesting things, having a nice cocktails and considering every little detail around you. Had a cocktails and side dishes there, delighted with everything. Unique serving and place in general. Peaceful atmosphere where you can enjoy yourself, but weekends are very busy here, as this place is quite popular.
L. D.
I was excited from the moment I saw this place on facebook. It didnt disappoint from start to finish. The atmosphere was clear from the otherside of the canal that it would be a good night. The food was great and very reasonably priced. We ate 3 courses with a few drinks for £60.00 for two of us!! James was very attentive and helped whenever he could. We had live music which was great! The refurb of the origional building really stands through and it looks great. I cant wait to come back. Thanks team Canal House!!
L. F.
Absolutely lovely food, staff were fast and friendly and cracking place to sit and have lunch.
Next time I visit Birmingham would most definatly dine here again.
Highly recommended 👍👍
M. P.
Great place! Next to the canal. Perfect in the sun. In between mailbox and broad Street so in a perfect location. Great cocktails on offer and food is banging. It's a bit above the average price but that's expected due to the location.
D.
Ok , not my type of local , it was busy and to get served took a while , however good selection of ales a good location
A. G.
The venue itself is very nice and comfortable, however it may be too loud for moments. Also beware of open doors in the evening as it can get a bit too cold, especially downstairs. We had to ask for another table due to that, but attendants were super friendly and quickly found a table for our party upstairs. The only downside we found is that the menu is quite limited, maybe due to new "normality". We definitely recommend it for drinks and sharers, maybe not so much for full course food.
D. P.
Our waiter was incredible and the food was delicious. Considered we were a large party, everything arrived correctly and drinks we readily available to order from our table
M. B.
Good place to hang out and eat, webt there for breakfast at 12 on a Sunday, first got an delicious pint of beer and for main Fisch anf Chips, rly tasty and huge portions! Lovely Ambiente so as the Service.
E. P.
Had the best Christmas celebration meal with work. Staff were just amazing!! Food was fab too! Lovely venue 😍
P. C.
Massive thanks to all the staff had a superb night food an drink brilliant. Had a private booth to host are daughters 18th 🥳🥳🥳🍾🍾🍻🍻🍻🌡🍹🍹 oh an the Christmas hanging turkey kebad with all the trimming was oh so nice 👌
C. W.
Not sure if this is because it is just after Christmas but 3 starters were out by 1830. The duck rillette was served fridge cold.
The rôtisserie chicken was a bit dry. It should come with gravy but good thing we ordered a side of rôtisserie chicken gravy. Unfortunately I have to say the stars were the two sides of chicken gravy and waldorf salad. Both tasted freshly prepared and tasty. The roast pork was fine. One of us thought it was a bit dry but it was saved by the chicken gravy!
The grilled pineapple and coconut ice cream was not bad. The pineapple is served warm but although you can see the grilled marks, it just tastes like warm pineapple. There is no taste of burnt caramelisation of a slow grilled pineapple. Perhaps that was the expectation due to there being a rotisserie.
Would go back to try the pork and Black pudding starter. Didn't order the "famous" hanging kebabs but although they look interesting, I couldn't see it being something to have more than once. Overall could do better. Service was fine aside that one of them thought the roast pork was lamb, took it away and then came back and said it had been switched to pork although he hadn't really changed it at all! Best to admit he got it wrong.
T. S.
Nice place, staff on the ground were few, some covid-19 restrictions followed by some staff and customers, good slection of beers and spirits, the food was below par for the what I was expecting could have been much better
M. B.
Great atmosphere in this pub and restaurant, decorated with character, making it a very pleasant venue in which to enjoy a drink and food. Excellent
A. D.
Great pub. Amazing beer selection, fresh tank beer and great food.
Nice garden area overlooks canal harbour. You would not think you were in Birmingham.
K. C.
A very interesting but lovely building. The lunch food menu had a variety of options and the food was good. Draught beer (Madri) was delicious.
E.
A really pleasing interior and exterior design experience, outdoor seating area on the canal is a nice spot to chill. Cocktails are great, some interesting ones (pic is old - their version of an old fashioned but I don't think they do it anymore) service is good though does suffer when it's busy, same as any bar I guess. Food is of a good standard too.
J. V.
One of my favourite pubs in Birmingham, it's so nice you forget you're in Birmingham! Win win! Great cocktails and staff too
P. P.
Beautiful looking place. Food was great too, very innovative kebabs. Service was excellent too. Very attentive
A.
Liked the atmosphere, lovely location and very convenient for Broad St. The service was good and enjoyed the food. Found the food menu a little lacking in choice and the only starter I wanted wasn't available. Enjoyed the kebab though.
J. F.
Food was excellent (the sweet chilli chips were a great addition), service was good throughout the evening
C. B.
Really nice restaurant in a fantastic location with a great aesthetic and views. The bar was fancy and I loved the food. A good range of very interesting dishes available, cooked by chefs who clearly know their stuff. Would eat here again and recommend it to all. I had the salt and pepper hanging pork kebab, which was wonderful.
J. P.
Came here for a few drinks with friends and I was NOT disappointed, considering there were 8 of us, we were seen to quickly and drinks etc. came in ample time. Our glasses were never friendly. Service is top notch and the staff that dealt with us were really lovely. Regretting not going for a sit down meal here now, as the nibbles that we did order were delightful. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Birmingham, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anybody! ♥️
L. R.
Last time we visited the food and service were amazing. This time less so. It may be the lack of hospitality staff but they seemed disorganised, it took a very long time for food to come. Some of it was delicious- amazing gravy! - but lamb fairly inedible and cold. We would love to come back again in a while to see if the service problems have been sorted.
S. W.
Absolutely love this place. Great drinks, great vibe, great food, great staff and great decor. Its the old James Brindley place that has been sitting there unoccupied for far too long. I'm so pleased that something decent has happened to it. Will recommend it to anyone that will listen.
P. G.
Fantastic food and service. My only future suggestion would be regarding the music - live music is great but the audio was stereo split. As we were sitting near just one speaker, we had live acapella only music blased at us. No great for a family catch up.
Overall though we had a fab time besides the audio...
G. M.
Lovely relaxed meal in beautiful surroundings. Great beer and a novel way to serve a child's sausage and mash entertained us.
All staff very friendly and accommodating. Worth the little detour over the canal bridge to get here.

Food was average but not bad, the outside seating area upstairs was a great place to sit! Service was good, waiters wore masks. Would definitely come back but possibly just for a drink.
L. W.
Really lovely face to visit great food and atmosphere, all the staff are welcoming and professional xx
J. C.
Really great food and a great atmosphere. We booked late and arrived a little late, they were more than happy to serve us. Service was really quick and staff were pleasant and polite. The menu is not particularly large, but is well accessible. The food itself is a touch pricey, but, it is well worth it, really tasty and well presented. Definitely well worth a visit!
C. T.
We only visited for drinks so can't comment on the food.
It's a lovely pub in a nice city centre location by the canal.
Would definitely visit again if in Birmingham again.
Prices were a little on the high side from where we come from.
£10.70 for a pint of Aspalls and a bottle of Rekordalig cider.
But hey ho.
G. W.
A cosy pub with a good selection of beers and a nice atmosphere. Sat above the canal (no surprises, given the name) it's just next door to the mailbox if you don't fancy the food here. I didn't order any but it looked quite nice based on what others ordered.
S. W.
Noticed from the other side of the canal and walked down Boad Street and off on side road to find the entrance. Nice friendly atmosphere and drinks on the terrace and starter of chicken wings and chicken skewer with chips between us. Very nice and would go back
J. C.
Lovely place, full of character and in a great location. Food was ok but the kebab was small and you only got 1. Alot af money for a bit of fish and a few prawns. Server was lovely. The other meal looked great. Would go again as such a great location.
J. k.
This place has been done very well. Sunny day, stunning canal side balcony, good food, crisp beer ♠️
@globalfoodquest
J. R.
Great drinks selection. Good pool tables. Amazing views out the back
P. D.
The staff couldn’t have been any more helpful. Food was great.
n. b.
A very nice experience. Food and beer was spot on. Singer doing his thing in the back ground and very bright and airy inside. Staff also very pleasant. Would happily go back.
B. B.
This is a lovely heritage bar and restaurant overlooking the canal area near the wharf. It has a pretty little sit out area with tables to enjoy a tipple or just soak in the sun on a good day with a nice pint of ale. A must do for first timers visiting Birmingham.
J. B.
Awesome place in the city center of Birmingham. Very nice furnishings and a great terrace directly at the water.
C. C.
Great location. Good atmosphere. Lovely food. Fantastic service.
J.
Absolutely lovely food and service! Quirky environment and lovely old school naval memorabilia. The outside space is wonderful and catches the sun for most of the day!
L. S.
Delicious food and great service. Would highly recommend.
A. L. B.
Lovely pub/restaurant. Made to feel at home the minute we walked in. Great food. Had the chicken, ham & leek pie love that the mash potato was under the pie. Will be visiting again.
I had to add to my review!!!!!
We travel up to Birmingham from the South Coast a couple of time a year.
We always visit The Canal House. Great food, great service like always. Today we were looked after by Chloe. She was so lovely & helpful. Nothing was to much trouble. 17/9/2021.
C. S.
Really nice food, and a nice location for a beer on the canal side terrace afterwards.
B.
We went there for lunch today. It was myself, partner and little one, we also went with friends and their little boy. The staff were so accommodating, even letting us sit down earlier than we had booked. Felt so safe inside to eat. Food was delicious, as always! Thank you for such a lovely meal and experience!!
M. T.
Great service and fabulous food. Lovely setting. Will definately visit again.
A. P.
The Canal House does their own twist on everyone's favourite cocktails! The decor is lovely and its a great spot for a sunny day!
s. g.
Had an amazing Sunday lunch here. Staff were very friendly, would definitely recommend it for a meal.
R. R.
Great service team, attentive host. She remembered our request to be inside despite the place buzzing with people. Great Daiquiris, average Espresso Martini, loved the dessert selection and of course their perfect location.
a. c.
lovely settling good food live music .id go bk there.
in fact we did you go another 3 times
J. Ž.
Me and my friend really enjoyed time in restaurant. Big thanks to Christian!
E. D.
We didnt book so didnt expect to get a table however we were pleasantly surprised! Lovely service & helpful staff.
We weren't planning to eat but we picked up some nibbles and they were amazing! The sweet chili fries were probably the best fries I've ever had - bloody lovely!
M. F.
Called Sunday for few pints with family place was lovely staff were fantastic and live music from 2pm. Would definitely recommend
A. S. T.
One of the best bars in Birmingham.Quick service, excellent location and very good decoration. Don't miss the outside area during the summer.
K. G.
Nice place for outside seating on a hot day, especially if you can get a seat on the edge of the canal. Good size with lots of available seating. I'm a veggie who doesn't eat fish/ cheese, so didn't have as much choice for me, but I ordered the tomotoe gnocci off of the children's menu and it was a decent size portion that came with two slices of garlic bread! Friends were happy with their food orders. The app was really temperamental which slowed down service, so in the end we asked staff if we could order through them, which they were happy to do.
A. J.
Lovely staff going the extra mile to cater for our needs. The food was excellent.
K. D.
Very, very impressed food was fantastic, great service, would really recommend
w. h.
What a cool place to go and visit for a drink and some amazing food. Great selection of drinks and a really good quality menu! Shame they had run out of roasts by the time I was ordering but will happily return to try and again, they looked amazing.
T. H.
My first visit today to the canal house (it would have been sooner without Covid, after the recommendations I’ve had to go). After everything they’ve had to deal with, the tough guidelines for re-opening and only open at the moment outside, they were phenomenal. The weather was awful but the food and service was beyond excellent. Offering umbrellas, apologising and asking regularly if all guests were alright was all above and beyond in my opinion. I work in customer service myself and I know somewhere that truly cares about their customers. Thank you the canal house and Christina especially. You were great, even if the other guests did really take the mick and ask to take the umbrella’s (some way to kick an establishment when they’re down after months of closure). Keep up the good work!
J. R.
Delightful spot to stop off in the summer for a drink. Pleasant staff and lovely location.
F. S.
We visited on a Friday night for my 40th. The staff were lovely, couldn't fault them. The food, however was decidedly mediocre. Everything we ordered was dry, overcooked and tough. I'm pretty sure this isn't par for the course, it was a very hot, busy night and I think we may have just been unlucky.
A. B.
Lovely venue by the canal. Good food and range of drinks.
The app wasn't always working and a number of our group had orders delivered twice... and charged twice! Staff were not overly helpful but polite enough.
K. J.
Good food, great service. Will definitely be back soon
C. W.
Fantastic time at the Canal House. They have a stage overlooking Gas Street Basin and playing tiday were the Potato Head Jazz Band from Spain. The weather was marvellous, the music was marvellous and the company was friendly. Great time!
P. C.
Food good but our bill was way overpriced. Feels a little like a cattle market with what seemed like an hour being asked to leave without even giving us the bill. Seems a target to turn tables around fast for max profit.
K. B.
Always love this place, they will always have a seat for you and offer fresh pints and good pub food. Great spot to people watch and have canal side view. I've been here for the past 7 years since I was 18 and they are classic whilst remaining relevant.
M. K.
After a while I was visiting Birmingham today.
Came for Lunch here and it was great experience. Emilia was serving me and she was great professional. She is very friendly. She told me about the canal and Birmingham.
She is excited Euro is starting tomorrow and they have a great big screen out site on the canal.
M. G.
Old & Quirky like us!!, loved it, staff, food, character, history etc 😎👍
d.
Very nice place to eat staff friendly food is of a good quality would recommend this place
A. B.
Great service. Hopefully the food is good too.
S. W.
Great atmosphere. Staff really efficient and friendly.
We will go again. 👍
D. H.
Beautiful food, very good service. Going back very soon
A. F.
Tank Budvar is 10/10!
T. D.
I visited yesterday Friday lunchtime with 2 friends. It is a very nice place and done out beautifully. We were sat out on the terrace which offers fantastic views of Gas Street Basin.
Overall me and my party were happy with the food and service although it was not clear at first how we were supposed to order more drinks - go to the bar or wait for the staff to pass by and order then. The latter being correct. The food was tasty if a little overpriced. I had a pork hanging kebab with fries at £13.
We enjoyed the experience overall but it was only when I checked our receipt properly at home that I noticed 3 extra half lagers at £7 had been added that we had NOT ordered! Along with a generous tip we gave to them it has left me feeling a tad annoyed after the visit.
Check your receipt before paying!
P.S I have now been refunded for the beers!
S. T.
Amazing food, great service and an awesome place visually too!
D. E.
Moretti beer huts outside are wonderful. Great service. Well recommended.
J. L.
Excellent bar, great outdoor area, great buzz and atmosphere, large drink selection, good service and the food looked great too (although didn't eat)
M. D. J.
Seems harsh to only give three stars, but when I visited they had ran out of Budvar, their signature drink and couldn't accept cards. Otherwise is in a good location and the afternoon sun hits the bench area for a good few hours.
H. C.
Love this place. Will defo be returning when I'm back in Birmingham. Great selectikn of food and drinks.
W. B.
A great place for a meal, perfectly cooked steak, and great vegan vegetarian choices avaliable too! If you're just looking for a drink and chill then you cant go wrong with heading downstairs either!
J. F.
Nice place for a few beers and to sit outside watching the world go by... Most enjoyable.
p.
Great place for drinks or food! Very quiet and relaxing place in the middle of the busy city. Recommend!
D. D.
A very nice pub set at the canal side. Good choice of real ales and wines, though a little dear. The food was decent pub food at a reasonable price.
A. G.
We went for Sunday dinner and had a great meal. Service was excellent, pleasant and relaxed staff. Food nicely prepared and good ambience with views across the marina/canal.
N. O.
A little gem hidden in the middle of Birmingham, nice pub/restaurant with a good atmosphere.
Definitely worth a visit.
The canal walk is also very enjoyable.
K. T.
Lovely Vegan Roast Dinner, very friendly service and the actual restaurant its self is beautiful with a good terrace for summer
M. F.
Friendly staff and a welcoming bar. Will definitely visit again
M. C.
This was our first family meal outdoors in four months and the Canal House staff could not have been more welcoming. We ordered using the App but staff were on hand to take orders verbally. The hanging kebabs were a good choice for all four of us, with a mixture of lamb, pork and chicken to share. The Wild Goose IPA went down well.
Only down side was that our table was completely in the shade and therefore very cold compared to the lucky ones in the April sunshine.
C. x.
Really nice bar/restaurant with amazing food.. the drinks and food were medium to high price but not surprising considering the location.. Lovely staff and pretty good mix of tunes, from Sonique to Aretha Franklin to Jamiroquai. Would 100% go again really enjoyed it.
K. P.
Lovely place however only card payments and 1 line to que and order them they could do it better.
N. S.
Booked table for 5. Pretty straight forward when we arrived seated quickly although there was a que. All table service via the app service was quick, drinks reasonably priced also ordered a few snacks again reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere exceeded our 2 hours as there was no demand for table and few tables spare so eneded up staying until closing. Toilets easily accessible. Only critism was i was asked to wear a mask despite being the only person from my party not weating one as im exempt.
T. N.
Lovely pub on the side of the canal. Great to watch sport on large tv in beer garden area. Lovely decor. Can only order via app at the moment so dont bring cash. Enjoyed the cocktail I had
C. O.
Amazing pub for a modern 'fake' it looks genuinely Victorian and a great addition to the city with beautiful canal terrace. Only downside is price of drinks .
E. J.
Love the atmosphere, food and friendly staff at the Canal House! The hanging kebabs taste just as fantastic as they look and we’re always greeted with a smile. Will be back soon
M. H.
An excellent evening, where the staff (even though short-handed) delivered a thoroughly enjoyable evening experience.
C. P.
Honestly amazing roast dinner and the prosseco was life changing live music was also awesome :) would definitely reccomend 💯 server Eve had a great vibe and definitely made the experience great.
B. S.
Really nice bar located by the canal side (as you might expect from the name!) Pool tables downstairs and food tables available for reservation upstairs.
T. T.
We liked it there. However, it was cold inside and we had an extraordinary gastronomical experience with the chicken burger that tasted like chicken sushi. I am not completely sure if anyone likes that combination to be honest. Also, we understand the nori sause inside but none of us pointed any spicy ingredients in the menu, so one of our friends had a spicy surprise. By the way we all agreed that the burger can be easily called Weirdo or Sush-Ger
K. C.
Great place to eat. Wonderful atmosphere, good service and great food.
J. J.
Great selection of drinks and the ambiance of the place was wonderful.
J. T.
Absolutely amazing food, drink and staff! Highly recommend, the place has a nice atmosphere and general feel, would highly recommend to couples or groups of friends.
P. P.
Great spot for drinks. Unique interior decor. Went for the sharing board which has a good selection on there.
M. T.
Had a lovely time on the balcony of The Canal House.
The atmosphere was bustling yet relaxing as you overlooked the canal. The chicken and chorizo kebab with chilli chips were sooo good and was served in a timely manner. The staff were also lovely and polite.
With the current situation of Covid restrictions, they only accept bookings and will not allow walk-ins, so please book, it is totally worth it!
J.
Always a nice vibe here, ideal for couple (Upstairs) with abit of live music most nice. Only small down stairs it's there always a wait at the bar but that is due to the cocktails being made.
B. S.
Excellent food and drink, and staff are so friendly and welcoming! I visited Canal House twice in a week and both times my experiences were 5*.
A. W.
Awesome food the Chicken Gravy starter is to die for excellent attentive staff good prices what's not to like
K. C.
Lovely place, great atmosphere, friendly staff and lovely food, what more can I ask for 👍👍👍👍
R. G.
Excellent nice staff nice food definitely go back 👍
P. L.
Been many times. Good beer and food overlooking canal
V. R.
Excellent service and food. Really impressed. Eve our waitress was really lovely, very friendly and professional as was the front of house lady.
Thanks guys, you made our day after a really long slog up the locks and bad weather, our tasty meal in a pleasant environment was really welcome. Would really recommend this place.
K. P. (.
Had a lovely Sunday dinner here. The inside is really well looked after and the service prompt and friendly.
S. D.
Nice establishment. One of those eclectic taste decor pubs - my kind of place. Food looked nice, reasonable prices from the menu, but we only stopped for a pint. Lovely balcony seating with heaters and sun shades (although heaters weren't working mid Jan, and the sun was much needed).
Having not had food on the first stop, we returned later that afternoon for a meal, and so glad we did. Excellent service, lovely food, and a good time had by all.
C. S.
Really lovely meal
K. W.
Lovely food great customer service!
A. F.
Very cool little bar near the canals edge. Makes for a different setting, and especially lovely in the sun.
R. D.
One of the best spot to have a drink in Birmingham. Beautiful place !
U. O.
Nice location, great atmosphere but expensive drinks
M. G.
Amazing service! Awesome food!! The Cookie dough it’s absolutely fantastic!!! Advice this super space for everyone they want to pass one amazing night in Birmingham!!!
J. S. T.
Amazing place...live music great surrounding....super
I. K.
Great location and decorations but gets extremely busy and a bit pricey
C. G.
Love the food service a bit slow outside .
m. h.
Beautiful location with a lovely atmosphere...reduced menu at the moment which is understandable with how busy they are but still plenty to choose from...the hanging kebabs are to die for!!
The whole process was flawless...from booking to prompt service from staff who couldn’t do enough for you....would highly recommend a visit...can’t wait to return!!
K.
Beautiful place right on the canal near Brindley Place. Absolutely gorgeous decor. Drinks are lovely, staff were great and also has outside seating.
J. D.
Stunning food, excellent customer service, pretty surroundings
C. E.
Really interesting building right on the canal. Food and drink were both excellent. As were the staff who went over and above to help out. Would definitely return.
N. S.
Always pop in here for a quick drink, its very comfortable and well fitted out. The drinks are good quality. Only thing missing from a 5* review are that I feel the staff are a bit rushed and don't necessarily give the best service every time. Still well above average however!
S. C.
Great Pub and restaurant very chic
S. B.
Lovely place to visit. Made very welcome especially as we hadn't booked a table. Service exceptional. Didnt have food but decent menu.. will definitely visit again 👌
M. A.
Great staff and food can’t fault
m. m.
Really nice interior, did and staff were very helpful.
E. G.
This place is absolutely amazing!
The service, drinks and food provided are impeccable!
D. B.
Had a great evening sat out by the canal. The hanging kebab was great and the cocktails were very nice too. Can't wait to go back.
D. M.
Very enjoyable lunch in a safe environment. All the staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. We will definitely return in the near future.
C. D.
Great place to sit and chill with a cocktail
J. M.
Great place to have a pint as the sun goes down .
L. R.
Not that cheap but really worth it, awesome decor, friendly staff and great food! The beer list could be a little better but that's the only small con so I give it 5 stars anyway!
P.
Gorgeous inside really quirky decoration. If you are going as part of a large group you can get a nice private table so good for special occasions or work events. Really nice food and great service. Lovely location as well alongside the canal.
A. G.
Nice place, nice staff but poorly drinks for the price they ask for. Small portions for the high price they ask and the cocktails is basically juice only bare alcohol. £5 Jack & Daniels for like 2 sips of it and 2 shots of fake tequila was just a waste.
J.
Great canal side location with high standard of food, service and atmosphere in Birmingham Centre.
T. E.
Me and my wife stopped in for some lunch on a Saturday, the place was lively and busy, we were able to still get a seat inside.
A good selection of beers if you like beers but the cider selection a bit poor.
The food menu is great and we decided to get a deli board each so we could both try a number of different items.
The food was delivered in a timely manner, the quantity of the food was good as was the quality.
We will definitely be going back there again and would recommend it to everyone.
H.
Fabulous restaurant/Pub. A must when in Birmingham. Absolutely lovely bartender who was so hardworking on a hot summers day. She kept a smile on and managed to keep orders going while chatting with everyone. Pleasant atmosphere and child friendly. Cool views outside along with the canal and the boats. Clean and spacious. Cool vintage industrial interior throughout. Loved it! Fantastic burger and perfect chips and great beer and cocktails!!!
R. E.
Very nice bar, standard prices, not cheap, not over the top. Shame that each pool game was £3.
R. A.
Absolutely beautiful.
Great booze, great food, great views.
S. P.
Amazing pub! I absolutely love this place! Fantastic food and service. I would highly recommend visiting this pub to anyone looking for a great place to eat.
M. K.
Great Food and Real Ales
Live music every night, great hanging kebabs, great choice of real ales and cocktails, what more do you want.
Would highly recommend this place, the food and drinks are excellent, great friendly service too. In the summer this place would be amazing, they have a great outside area to eat and drink.
H. P.
Really lovely food and staff for my daughter's PhD graduation meal ! Thank you 😊
M. B.
My husband & I absolutely loved it here, the staff were really friendly, food was great and it was a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely revisit!
S. P.
Good food, disappointing beer selection. Presentation of kebabs is interesting and new to me.
G. G.
Food and drinks were delicious. The vegan board was one of the nicest ones I had, and I recommend choosing the sangria to drink! Socially distancing is more than possible here and the staff were very accomodating.
S. H.
LIFE CHANGING BURGER!!
AMAZING ATMOSPHERE!!
EXTREMELY ACCOMMODATING!!
COVID SAFE!!
We had a lovely afternoon relaxing. Seriously delicious food, the burger was amazing. The staff were so attentive and went out of there way to ensure we had a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommend!!
Felix made our experience very enjoyable, he was extremely kind and helpful. It also helped that he was very handsome. 😂 We will definitely be coming back soon!
N. K.
Good music, good drinks.
T. &. E.
Good, kwerky, trendy bar / restaurant. Great location
P. B.
Great service well organised. Food dishes were excellent and great choice of menu. A great place to dine or drink on a summers day.
L. G.
Amazing food! Great atmosphere and very friendly staff! Highly recommend!
R. S.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Fantastic location, brilliant service, very reasonably priced for food and drinks, great ambiance for a lovely evening when I went. I will be back and will happily recommend.
I. D.
Had a good experience here, met up with my lad for an evening meal without booking... ended up being quite busy, but the staff sorted us out with a down stairs table and order at the bar meal.
Friendly and helpful staff, nice meal... i had the lamb kofta ... which was not a masive meal ... but was enough. Good selection of beers, nice surroundings and some live music. I imagine in the summer it is bursting at the seems by the canal
Keep it up everyone!
d. l.
Buzzing lively nice ambience Regency Wharf venue.
S. B.
Food was really good, the hanging kebabs are lovely and they have an excellent selection of low and non alcoholic drinks.
J. E.
A great place to eat and drink by the fantastic canals, live music to
D. R. W.
Brings back a few memories, used to drink here 25 years ago it was the James brindley ! Much smarter now ! Lovely in the sunshine !
J. B.
We had a fabulous evening at The canal house. Booked a table for food before going to see the Eagles in concert. Service was excellent, Food was amazing and all the staff made us feel very welcome . Great atmosphere and very busy. We returned after the concert for more drinks with family and friends. What a fabulous evening. Thank you to all the staff .
R. W. -. R. C. (. R.
Even though place is busy, the staff are very attentive. Me partner and baby. The staff could not do enough, very nice staff. Very impressed.
H. G.
I went there for a team lunch. Staff was super friendly and helpful and arranged a table within second despite not having reservation. Drinks were served quickly and food order taken promptly. We had two staff looking after our group of 7. Food was absolutely gorgeous. I had hanging lamb kofta kebab with seasoned chips. I can't fault food, only wish the portion was a bit bigger. Would recommend and visit again.
M.
1st time here and wow lovely pub live music and great views of canal
M. P.
Very nice setting and the venue looks fantastic.
The staff are extremely polite and helpful.
My only criticism is that the food is a bit too "posh" for my liking. A little more basic approach to preparing the food instead of being all fancy would have been better for me.
More quantity and less poshness please.
1. 9.
Great food, decent portion sizes. Loved the salt and pepper pork skewer (sauce tasted like Chinese sweet and sour). Food good value but drinks very expensive (£9 for gin and tonic, £3.75 for pint of Coke) Just a few minor issues, such as seeing "add a splash of lemonade to your juice!" on the menu then being charged 70p for the added 'splash'. Heard about free prosecco on birthdays but got told we had to have the app to get it and didn't get offered anything for birthday. Also got £1 charity donation added without asking (not a problem but we should've been told beforehand).
There was live music playing which was excellent, HOWEVER... before this, they were blasting awful pop music which completely ruined the atmosphere.
Worth it overall but beware of added costs and stinginess.
J. C.
14 of us had our team Christmas meal at the Canal House. The private dining room was wonderful as was the food and service. We really enjoyed our experience and will definitely be back. Everything ran smoothly and everyone had a great time.
S. S.
Loved the place. Great drinks, nice atmosphere and fantastic, accommodating staff.
T. I. T. C.
Nice that you don't have to book!
A. K.
If you're looking for a scenic place to have a meal in Birmingham, then Canal House might be for you.
Set along the Birmingham canal just of Broad Street, the Canal house offers good food in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
The staff here are always extremely pleasant and the prices are fair, considering the size and location of the property.
The grilled kebabs are a treat and the moving Mountains burger is a great addition for those who prefer to go meat free.
I'd recommend The Canal House and it's likely I'll be dinning here again soon.
P.S. I'd recommend booking in advance if you're planning on eating out on the balcony.
Bon appetite!!
R. J.
Great vibe and great service. Definitely worth a visit for a pint if you fancy somewhere lovely.
H. T.
Wicked place serving a good range of drink, including non alcoholic stuff. Good outside space but its get mental when the sun comes out! This is both a good and bad thing, good means an awesome atmosphere and loads of new people. Bad it can take a while to get service which is not the bar staffs fault at all. Does good grub too but if its busy can take a while to come, one of my fave places to drink in brum. Keep up the good work guys 👌🤙
N. T.
Really nice pub adjacent to the canal. Outdoor area has seating, brollies and heaters. Good choice of beers and excellent food.
H. C.
Lovely atmosphere and decor. Nice variety of drinks and Lovely menu the hanging kebabs are delicious with a great portion of fries. Had the creme brulee delicious and the huge ice cream cookie sarnie was lovely. Would highly recommend this place.
J. B.
Lovely place for a drink along the canal, we didn't have food, but have previously. Excellent menu and great atmosphere. Would recommend, probably worth booking.
S. C.
Handy and friendly. They had run out of a few beers though.
L. D.
Loved it. Everything was on point, from the cozy and welcoming atmosphere to the way we were treated by the waitresses. We went in February and it was pretty cold, but it was possible for us to sit outside and enjoy a cup of tea while admiring the canals due to their heating system. The interior is amazing, its desing is really wonderful, kind of sending you back in time, leaving you with a taste of a vintage-ish pub with modern facilities. Would definitely check it out anytime we're around. Family-friendly, this place can be ideal for both business or leisure, its design managing to keep both vibes up if needed. Enjoy!
D. L. K.
Very nice afternoon, we were only here for 1 drink each. Maybe have another staff member on busier, sunny days, only 2 bar staff working, and cocktails can take some time, so we waited around 8 mins at the bar to be served. But that's not the staffs fault, they were very welcoming with smiles on there faces.
Plenty of outdoor seating available, and nice views of the canal. Would visit again.
T. K.
One of my favourite places in Birmingham, lovely setting, friendly staff,
Reasonable prices for the beautiful setting
M. P.
Lovely pub. Excellent food too
A. P.
Tad expensive. We paid £71 a round for 6 people. (We was also have a cheeky sambuca) but still a tad pricey.
Great atmosphere inside, even better outside on a nice summer's day. Always live music downstairs. You can eat here but I have yet to do so, so cannot comment on taste but always looks lovely.
Would be a 5* venue but the price of drinks does let it down a tiny bit.
K. B.
The App to order food does not accept the "Eat out to Help out" offer which is a pain, but the staff were helpful and they all wore masks. Food was great. Would have been 5 stars if the App worked with the offer.
C. M.
Very nice place staff very nice food very nice and the bar man is very good
A.
Such a beautiful restaurant and bar! Dimly lit and romantic; with smartly dressed, attentive staff.
Good selection of craft beers on tap, and a well compiled cocktail menu. The amaretto sour was very well made!
The food is good too. I believe the whole establishment is run by the same people who run the Botanist so it's a consistency of quality you'd expect from experience. Weekday evenings are usually quiet and I wouldn't say booking is necessary, especially as it's huge inside! Lots of seating available.
Very pretty canal side location so I'm sure it'll be busy by summer!
R. P.
Beautiful place, wonderful staff!!
J. H.
We arrived early for a table of 6. Service at the bar was slow, and felt like the only served one half of the bar before we asked if service was only at one end, and we think they got the message and finally served us after a 10 minute wait. Food was amazing and no complaints at all with the quality of food, however service could have been a little better and all dishes bought out at the same time, instead of waiting 5 minutes for all dishes to be bought out. This was the same for main and dessert. Staff where all friendly and happy to help, and like I said food was amazing and would recommend the steak and ale pie, the pork belly kebab and chicken burger for mains, and the best dessert by far was the sticky toffee pudding, it was perfection. The chocolate and peanut pudding was nice but as a suggestion I would say less bananas jam and more chocolate!
When the bill came there was a 10% service charge which I wouldn't of minded of paying if all meals where bought out at the same time, especially as there was only 6 of us.
Overall a beautiful setting, lovely food, just feel if your going to charge a service charge make sure the service is perfect.
L. W.
Very attentive staff. Nice ambience. Great food

This place is really nice, but their prices are too much. I understand the good location and nice place will drive the prices up, but charging approx. £5.50 for a pint is too much. Also, they claim they have tank beer but coming from Slovakia where tank beer is common I can tell you that tank beer tastes differently!
M. M.
It's the hottest and most busy day of the year, and the bar staff are pushed to their limit. But nothing has stopped then from delivering great service. There's two gentleman on the bar taking two drinks orders at a time, the queues which look intimidatingly large fly down. A five minute wait is far better than expected. Great work in a great bar.
A. L.
Very nice place, we had a great time staying there in the sunny terrace watching the canals and the passersby walking. The food looked nice even though we didn't try it, the beer was nice but the selection was mostly average. There was awesome live music though! We'd definitely come back sometime
C. L.
Lovely venue but no seats for drinks only. Attitude of waitress was disappointing probably under pressure but came across as rude!
However.......our experience was saved by the FANTASTIC security officer BALA, he was fun and lovely, excellent customer service skills...because of him we may come back! Lost a star because of the waitress!

Have visited during the soft opening week, and I have to say this place is amazing. The interior decoration is smart and gives the place an authentic feeling. The lower ground is designed in a pub-style, while the upper ground has an airy, floral style and hosts the main restaurant. The outdoors areas are lovely as well. The terrace offers great views over the canals and, if it's a sunny day, you'll be in the sun until late. The cocktails are top quality, and they have great names as well! Much like in the Botanist, I appreciated the extensive cocktails list. I can easily see this place becoming one of the top attractions for an evening out.
A. C.
The service was wonderful even though the weather wasn't 😂 as soon as we sat down at the table we were greeted by a really friendly gorgeous blonde girl (not sure of her name) who took our order swiftly. Very enjoyable experience
J. F.
Nice outdoor area right on the canal side with waitress service and a very interesting choice of lagers and Ales, also a good food menu, would strongly recommend a visit
R. O.
Great food and drinks in a wonderfully done restaurant on the canal. Service was superb and the staff was very knowledgeable.
M. M.
Quality food , great atmosphere !

Lovely place to eat and live music
P. R.
Had a great meal the atmosphere was very good but not in your face the party I was with had a good time . The only thing I can fault is the lack of choice on the menu, we sat down to eat at 7pm but 60% of the menu wasn't available. We had booked the table but hadn't been told about the lack of choice.
The food we had was very good and the service was good but the lack of choice put a bit of a dampner on the evening. One of our party is gluten and dairy intolerant so the menu was the reason for making the booking.
Would still like to go back again
Y. Q.
Fab food and drinks. Service is faultless
D. T.
Good food, good pint!
P. B.
loved this place. staying just up the road we popped in for a couple of drinks. The staff were very welcoming on a quiet tuesday evening. The place was clean, warm and interesting. Obvious character and history. Very nice Sauvignon Blanc. The staff very kindly charged my phone as it was dead so unable to use the handy charging point, as it required an app to be downloaded.. of course :)
Y. B.
Lovely pub nice friendly staff
S. B.
New lady Maria is amazing, all the staff are. Food was top. Have been coming here for a while and have always felt welcome. Great live music making a lovely atmosphere.
5 stars every time.
b. d.
Great service, nothing over the top just friendly realist people. Cocktails are great food good. Red wine good too. Relaxed atmosphere. Vintage upto date look. Live singercdunday. No lamb dinner creme brulee or blueberry sponge but it's fine. Everything else made up for it. Speedy service not once did I think the service was slow from my table to approach the bar
S. W.
Great choice of beer and a good atmosphere.
M. R.
Was pleasantly surprised by just how good this place was, especially considering its in such a touristy area. It looks more expensive than it is.
Kids meals were huge, which was lucky because they were hungry. Best steak Ive had in 10 months in UK. The hanging kebab things are a speciality here and also awesome.
S. K.
Best place in the whole Birmingham. And they have a Czech beer as well.
C. K.
Really nice layout and decor and a great place to visit. It's a really unique environment but it's been done so so well. It's on 2 levels and has an outside seating area. It gets incredibly busy on sunny days. Drinks are reasonable prices. I've not had any food yet but I've been told it's very nice.
K. H.
Very pleasant experience. Special thanks go to Sophie for looking after us! Thank you for brilliant atmosphere and great service.
D. C.
Really lovely place. It's the same chain as The Botanist in the center so it's got a bit of a similar feel, which is a great thing. As expected they have a great selection of cocktails, like the Botanist, and a lovely selection of food, I'd especially recommend the hanging kebabs. The live music is always really good, and the view over Gas Street Basin is great too. This really is one of my favourite spots in town.
B. W.
A nice venue right by the canal in what looks like an old boat house. Amazing decor and live music piped through the building gives it a really nice feel. We only went for bar food so we were instructed to go downstairs by the staff so we didn't have to wait for a table. It often gets busy and is worth booking in advance. The pork salad I had was delicious if not a tad expensive, but you can opt for a smaller portion.
What we were disappointed by was the service, it seemed to take ages to get served for drinks even though there wasn't many people there (they did apologise for this and were very courteous) and when my dad requested vinegar for his chips it took them 10 minutes to tell them they couldn't find vinegar in the whole restaurant, when I'm pretty sure I could taste it on my salad!
I wouldn't let this put people off giving it a go though, it's a different venue with nice views of the water. ive been previously and the service has been better, and the cocktails are definitely worth trying.
S. K.
Went as a group of 3 on a Wednesday evening. I had the lamb kebab which was delicious and a friend enjoyed a burger and chips. The third friend went for the chicken kebab, which unfortunately came slightly undercooked. However, the waitress was hugely apologetic and the manager soon came to the table and offered my friend anything from the menu. The kebab and a couple of drinks were then knocked off the bill. We all really appreciated the honesty and pleasantness of the staff, and would happily return here in future!
N. S.
It is very nice aesthetically speaking, however the atmosphere is a little bit lacking. There is live entertainment in the way of music but it looks as though nobody is really enjoying themselves. It's great for a nice glass of wine but it is a little uncomfortable when You walk in and as nothing is really going on people just look at whoever is coming through the door just for something to do.
S. W.
Staff were very pleasant - inconspicuously attentive.
J. B.
Really nice location, atmosphere, decor etc. Really enjoyed a gin and tonic in the sun on the patio beer garden outside.
Thoroughly recommended - just don't expect it to be cheap!
Literally round the corner from the holiday Inn Express - which is also a good place to stay as it's new, so all the rooms are clean and good.
E. C.
Lovely place. Visited for my partner's birthday after visiting Electric Cinema. Staff extremely friendly and helpful (I had lost my purse) The management went above and beyond. The food, drinks and atmosphere were all 100%. We had a perfect evening (I got my purse back too!) Will visit again soon.
J. R.
Great atmosphere.good service.lovely food
T. S.
Food was excellent and the staff were exceptional. The weather unfortunately was a right let down, not so nice to eat such fantastic food underneath an umbrella.
d.
- Meal was delicious (Sea bass)
- Great atmosphere, even though the music was too loud
J. W.
Lovey and cozy cabins, great food
w. s.
Excellent views fom the canal side, we only had drinks which had a good choice but the food smelt very good
M. G.
Pleasant ambiance however the food needed some work. We were a large group for a special birthday but we were slightly cramped in a space not suited to our number. We had a good night and the staff were friendly and helpful.
H. L.
Food was lovely, staff were friendly however, they gave glutenous bread with a gluten free delivery board, didn't have a cider ordered so just replaced it with another one with no question or apology. It wasnt even hugely busy. The beer selection is impressive and I would go back
R. C.
First of all, the place was absolutely gorgeous! With the live music playing that day we really felt like we ended up in some old bar in New Orleans, which is so much more than we expected. The staff was very friendly and the food was really nice as well. Have a go at the cocktails when you're there, they are ideal!
N. A.
First time to this place. Lovely food let down by not so good service. I had the chicken kebab, my friend the fish and chips. Reason for the low rating was the poor service. My friend pretty much finished his meal before mine even came. My food arrived and I asked for cutlery and the waitress pointed "over there". This isnt the cheapest of places either.. If it's a help yourself sort of place then let us know on paying or have signs. It's not obvious and the place feels higher end than this? The waiter who brought my friends food was fantastic, noticed no cutlery and got some! Small things make the biggest difference!
O. C.
Went on a busy Saturday with a group of 6 + 3 children under 1. Bit of confusion initially as we were told to sit downstairs, found an unreserved table and were then asked to move. Staff made up for it with a free round of drinks and good service for the rest of the evening. Good selection on the menu. Our 10 month old enjoyed a halloumi kebab 😂. Would go back, but maybe avoid busiest times with kids.
K. I.
Brilliant place with great service. Came here on a private work event and the food we were presented with was quite nice, although the burgers could use some work, as they are rather small and lacking moisture.
Outdoor space can get quite crowded so is an issue in the summer, besides this it is a good place to go and have a few drinks.
C.
Great atmosphere and great food. Lovely restaurant with extremely good service at a reasonable price. They have a loyalty app which gives you a discount on your meal too. There was live music while we were eating which made the atmosphere even better and wasn't overbearing like in some places. Would recommend checking this one out.
N. M.
Felt food did not live up to expectations. My fish and chips had good batter but the fish was really very limp inside it. The sundae was rather strange with tasteless orange jelly squares that I assume were the marmalade that was mentioned in the menu. Also feel the sundae would have worked better in a sundae glass tather than a shallow bowl. However, we did have a pleasant evening there and the live music duo were good.
D. B.
Great night, however it was cold and wet and we were informed we would have to sit in the outside seating area if we wanted more than 5 people to a table. I know it's ristricted due to Covid but I assumed the rule of 6 would apply in bars too.
L. E.
We had a family meal here about 12 of us. Food was really good and we had an area to ourselves worked really well staff were friendly and helpful. Nice canalside location. Will hopefully return be lovely outside on a nice day.
N. V.
As having worked in the trade, the atmosphere is great the staff are very on the ball, polite and allow you space! I had chance to watch the kitchen staff, which was refreshing! As the kitchen look very clean, and they were discussing how to improve the layout for delivery ofservice! Right now to the food, my partner had the chicken pie on a bed of mash, which came with mushy peas! I had the pork belly kebab with chips, visual is spectacular as the taste! Served hanging from a stand with the bowl of chips/sweet potato fries beanth the kebab, then you pour the sauce from the ramenic into the top of bowl at top of the stand which allows the sauce to drip down, over the kebab into the bowl covering the chips!
A. T.
Very nice and cosy place with a great canal side garden. Often have live music from local artists which is lovely to see and the atmosphere is incredible. The decor is worth mentioning as it's fantastic, got lovely early 1800s industrial kinda theme very much embracing the canal it overlooks. Drinks are slightly more expensive than nearby establishments but you just don't get the same atmosphere and feeling from them I am more than happy to pay the extra!
B. B.
Great to be back and even better with the great food and service at The Canal House, staff were great and very friendly, pints were nice and fresh and all the food was perfect the hanging kebabs were awesome, thanks The Canal House for a great experience!
S. S.
Fabulous venue right at canalside. Delightful staff, one obviously training but very well supported by her senior. Lovely young girl singer there last night, a blissful relief from world cup fever. Menu pub food but very imaginative and excellently cooked and presented. Quick service
A. F.
Greatly helpful humane service for one and all the diverse people families and children of the world.
M. W.
Excellent place to visit if u are near the Mia, broad St or mail box. Lovely outdoor seating with canopys and parasols outside. Interior is nicely decorated inside. I only had a drink did not eat but do book a table as it seem very popular if you do want to eat
A. P.
Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Location is great and they had a live singer performing. Wine was also excellent. Only thing I would criticise is the staff member taking our order was awful, didn't seem to know how to use the till or anything and food or wine and then overcharged us.
E. H.
The location is outstanding with its canal side views, so it's a great place to enjoy an al fresco drink on a nice day. They do a fabulous range of beers with lots of craft beers and a reasonable range of real ales - something here for every beer drinker. Cocktails are good too. Food wise, we loved the black pudding starter and the hanging kebabs are really good (as well as being a bit of a talking point).
F. A.
There were 23 of us, so service was understandably a bit slow and there were a few mistakes, despite putting food orders in 2 weeks prior. 'Welcome' drinks took 45 mins to arrive. Having said that, the atmosphere was lovely and the food very tasty. All in all I would recommend, just not if you're hungry and want fast food!
K. A.
Loved the venue. The food I had was great however my friend didn’t like hers and describe it as veg in w condom ( she had vegetable spring roll ). I rate it 5 as I couldn’t complain on my dishes o staff. We where a big group as well.
M. P.
Perfect Sunday lunch staff are fab nothing is to much trouble, superb menu and food is fab. We were their today table for 26 and we had our own little bit of the restaurant just off the downstairs bar. love the setting on the canal it's perfect guys well done 😁
R. S.
Great location with lovely food.
Gets very busy with the afterwork rush but adds to the atmosphere. The outdoor space is lovely for a summer drink. The only quibble is a few things were not available on the menu and a more than a few drinks were unavailable at the time.
G. R. S.
I loved this place the first time I saw it. The decor is wonderful and has been restored tastefully. I would have given 5 stars if I didn't get the incorrect information about the specials menu. The food I did get was very nice.(Just not what I thought I was going to get)
D. B.
Lovely place to go either for just a quick drink or the whole evening. Super helpful staff, and a particular mention to Liam who looked after us in such a professional and friendly way - top bloke ! Beautiful location too just there on the canal. We will be returning for sure.
T. M.
A nice ambience with live music when visiting on a weekend afternoon, and the food was also tasty. There was a bit of a wait to both have food and drink orders taken and then also to get the food out. This certainly wasn't anything to do with the staff themselves, but rather that they seemed to be a little short-staffed to deal with the amount of customers booked in. That said, would definitely go back though!
P.
This is a top tier pub for any visitor to or local of brum. The location is a perfect view of old meets new, looking across the barges at gas street basin and a you have one of the best views of brum. Squint and you can imagine the victorian industry buzzing around you. Pub is standard fare but that location is unmissable
k. g.
Good food, nice drinks, lovely atmosphere for a lunch. Will defo be back
M. J.
Great location, lovely staff, always good service. On a sunny day with a but of live music on the terrace there really isn’t too many places better to go in Brum. Place looks great too with a nice atmosphere and good crowd of people.
The only let down is that without exception you are always waiting at least 10 minutes to get served. I run a bar/restaurant myself and can never work out why there is always an ample amount of staff on duty yet one or maximum 2 very polite bartenders are left with a heard of people to serve, really trying their best. I put this down to training and pour management prioritising but besides this it’s honestly a brilliant place to go for a drink or many.
D. E.
Friendly staff, great outdoor seating area. All taking Covid very seriously. Can't wait to go back.
j. j.
the interior of the restaurant is incredible with modern yet luxury feeling. food was lovely cannot wait to comeback
K. K.
Nice place. Good vibes
I. S.
Excellent service and an Ideal location on a sunny autumn day for an afternoon meal and drink right next to the canal
s. w.
Great place for food, 🍺 🍷 & cocktails.
M. B.
Magnificent place! If only I wasn't shy I'd take pictures of everything! Great selection of beers, wines (Argentinian riesling is so beautifully dry!) and other drinks. All the food we tried was delicious. The burger was exceptional! I'm definitely coming for that again! And what is also very important, the service - superb! Every person who we had a chance to talk with was polite, smiley and knowledgeable. Big thanks to our waitress Trina, who made us feel special.
So everything 5 stars! Hopefully they'll keep it that way!
L. J.
Quite a new establishment and for HSBC staff they get discount when eating here. We enjoyed a lovely meal here. The menu has fair choice, even for the vegetarian in our party, and draught beer and cocktails. The hanging kebabs were absolutely fantastic and wonderfully presented. The desserts and tea/coffee selection was decent and included chai tea and jasmine Pearl (bit different!). The atmosphere was really nice, the staff were friendly and catered for all of our needs.
The aesthetic alone is enough to entice you in. Very glad we went and we will definitely be going back.
L. S.
Excellent food and an amazing selection of drinks. Don't know how I haven't been here when I've lived in Birmingham all my life, also know it is fairly recently refurbished and re opened. Will definitely visit again, the live music was too class too. Highly recommended
E. C.
We decided to try the canal house as we have enjoyed visits to the botanist. At first we were pleasantly surprised, the space is well designed and sympathetic to the area. However the food was cold, portions were smaller than we have seen in the sister eaterie and some of the food was not at all pleasant. The poor server was apparently undersupported. Probably why our food was cold. The table smelled and was sticky, clearly not been well cleaned.
All in all, we were very disappointed with this visit and are unlikely to return.
G. G.
Very friendly staff good selection off drinks and food
A. H.
Good range of beers on tap, the pacific pale ale is very good. Food excellent, you must try the cheeseburger. Really interesting, light decor. Good service. We had a fantastic lunch.
D. S.
Attended for my birthday and was lucky enough to get a seat outside on the balcony on a sunny day overlooking the canal and houseboats. Drink selection was great, everything was clean and tidy and the staff were really friendly.
J. M.
Very nice pub. Very good kebabs. Just don't jump in the river
J. W.
We visited here about last year December just before Christmas.
First time and have higher expectation... Good view, great decor and lovely staff. have a good welcome and lead us to upstairs as downstairs was full of people.
three of us had beer wines and started to order food, the burger we had was terrible terrible, i never had a burger like that, thin beef and dry even worse than maci 99p chessburger...I dont understand why a place in a perfect location and nice decor but with a sh#'t food??? sorry...
R. B.
Such a beautiful pub for a dining out. Me & my girlfriend went here for our 2 Year Anniversary as the place we were hoping to go had closed due to COVID-19. Food was delicious & flavoursome. 👍👍👍
C. B.
Were able to get a table for 5 on a Saturday night with the help of one of the bouncers. Really good selection and quality of food. Drinks were delicious. Will be back again!
M. S.
Excellent food, very tasty and deserts also fine. Thank you for Sunday Roast....
S. L.
Amazing food and amazing staff!
M. S. V.
The interior decor on the first floor on this canal side bar is quite lovely and with a great outdoor space this is definitely one to visit when the sun is out. A large selection of beers and a good food menu will help cater to most occasions.
D. Z.
We visited the Canal House Saturday for our friends 'special' birthday. We had a fantastic cocktail masterclass with Anthony and J...looking after 9 of us was hilarious......really are lovely lads. Thank you to Erika and staff for beautifully dressing up our private dining area and all the lovely staff who looked after us during our meal.
Great place to come too...we will be back!!
K. T.
We had such a lovely anniversary meal here today. The food was so good, and reasonably priced too. All the staff who looked after us were really pleasant and very efficient.
L. C.
The best place to be during summer. It have an amazing beer garden, with a spectacular view of the canal. The food was amazing, I had the salt and pepper pork belly kebab & salt a pepper chip. It was finger licking. Great staffs and great service.
C. R.
Food excellent. Warm friendly atmosphere. Staff brilliant
J. M. (.
Cold outside, no space on the inside but a great place to chill
R. C.
I came here for a date night before going to the cinema at the mailbox and it was lovely. It was our first date night in nearly 2 years and it was perfect. Lovely views from the beer garden, looking at all the barges and sitting amongst fairy lights with a mocktail while being heavily pregnant. Can't wait to go again!
h. h.
Honestly the food is incredibly average. The decor is amazing but anyone who's eaten at a few restaurants won't be particularly impressed with this one. Servers were very nice though and cocktails are great.
M. H.
My favourite bar in Birmingham! Great selection of ales and spirits and live music (usually 1 person on guitar playing fun classics) every night. Great location on the gas street basin with lovely restaurants nearby. Enjoy guys
L. B.
LOVELY food! my second visit and wont be my last. Definetly MY kind of place in terms of decor - oldey wurldy, interesting, unusual, majestic, warm, cosy...... The food is well priced and i can imagine on a summer day, drinking here would be wonderful.
I highly recommend the pork scratchings to nibble on whilst deciding.... warm and yummy!
J. L.
This is such a lovely venue, the menu is very good and the quality of the food is great. If you are after some lunch or out for dinner in the evening then give this place a try. Next time I'm in Birmingham again I'm coming here! All the staff are really friendly and they live what they do. Keep up the great work.
M. D.
Nice place with a decent selection of beers. Caters more to eating than drinking.
M. G.
Went in for a very belated Xmas staff party on Tues 11th Feb, the downstairs bar only had one bartender serving and we were a big group but he (Chris) was very professional, very friendly and patient! Really great service and great drinks, big up Chris x
P. A.
Fantastic place great music great staff will definitely be going back xx
R. P.
Came with a friend about a year ago and it was realy quite something when you step inside. I loved the interior, I definetley recommend just to admire, they have a balcony and seating by the canal so it's great in the warm weather and pictures. I remember having a burger and fries, it was realy nice and filling, next time I'd try something less traditional but never less I'm well impressed with the look.
M. A. D.
lovely place overlooking the canals + good food and beers
F. H.
Friendly staff. Great service. Lovely food
T. C.
Lovely quiet place in Birmingham by the canals
S. L.
Lovely pub for a drink, not tried the food yet though
s.
Absolutely lovely. Live music was so amazing, coffee was great, staff very friendly and the Atmosphere was just amazing.
It's gonna be from now on my favourite place in Birmingham.
N. B.
The best customer service ever, every single person who served us was so friendly and chatty. The food was so good as well even though they had an issue with the gas due to a power cut they were still able to provide a good menu. Would definatly go here again.
X. Z.
The kebab is good but the pork chop is bland
C. G.
Kebabs on skewers are the speciality and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Interiors decor is original and we'll designed. Service was a little slow, but aperture from that all good. I would recommend. PS ask about downloading the app if you go, we got 40% off so well worth it.
R. W.
Great place for some food & wine in the sun :)
K. L.
What a fantastic venue, we hosted a few events with the Canal House with top rated feedback from our customers. Cannot fault how professional and friendly they were. Many thanks Erica for keeping us informed and extending our stay with you, it was very much appreciated. Regards Kev
O. Q.
I would highly recommend a visit here if you're having a few drinks in Birmingham. This bar has everything!
It has plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the canal. Outdoor seating is pretty rare in central Birmingham, so a sunny day I imagine it might get busy. On an evening there are heaters, so you can still sit outside and enjoy the scenery.
They also put on live music on a weekend but I can get very busy when live music is on and the bar queues get big! They have a wide range of drinks here, including cocktails and craft ales! They even have ale masterclasses for the ale lovers. The drinks prices are quite high but you can find unique beers here so it's worth it to have 1 or 2.
They have a few pool tables so it's a nice place to visit to chill out with a drink and a few games of pool.
The restaurant is beautiful! I enjoy the quirky decor. I like their menu, it's mostly kebabs and grills and if you're trying to eat healthily it's a good place to come to as they have lots of tasty salad options and various dips. However, I do think the food is slightly overpriced and the portions are OK the small side.
J. C.
A nice pub, staff were friendly and professional.
Ordered a hanging kebab (cod and prawn) and was a bit disappointed with how little food was actually on it. Looked like one king prawn was cut up and the cod might have broken off of some pieces. Tasted good but disappointing for the cost.
M. F.
A really good pub and restaurant. Good beer selection nice menu and good service. Really enjoyed the kebabs and beer choices. Slightly expensive but really good service and nice layout. Look forward to visiting again
L. B.
It's always a bit of a gamble when you seek somewhere via the website but the Canal House paid off as a brill success. A group of four of us wanted lunch before we went to a concert and this restaurant provided some great food in a relaxing atmosphere. We were well looked after and stayed a good couple of hours before meandering up to the Symphony Hall. The prices were reasonable too. The 'chandeliers' are a work of art and worthy of a visit in their own right; lots of bottles and other glass instruments surround the lights in a very effective way.
