D. W.My friends & I enjoy going here after work the fixed price meals are great value for money. There's always a good selection & the meals are always served hot. The staff are polite & friendly, & make sure everything is ok. We'll definitely keep going.
S.Customer service was amazing! The lady on the phone was very helpful, ensured we got the right table.
The waiting and bar staff were very attentive and were lovely. Especially the lady at the bar with the dark hair. We noticed one customer had an issue with their meal and they sorted it right away.
Food was tasty and drinks were brilliant value, with £5 cocktails and £10 wine you can't moan!!

Food came out promptly and was good quality especially for the price!

As you can see from the pasta dish, I highly recommend, and add the chicken on, it really pushes it that little bit further 🥰 pub looks clean and the team were friendly.

s. s.Spacious pub with lively atmosphere! Went there with work colleagues. Knocked one star off as they had no selection of mocktails (as I was meant to be behind the wheel). Haven't tried their food so can't comment - menu was nice. Maybe will try next time. Overall, great pub

J. M.It can get very busy here so it must be good for the crowd it accompanies. I ordered 2 double drinks from here though and it did cost £12 which I thought was a bit steep and got charged 1.70 for a double up rather than the 165 advertised, but it's only 5p. We did ask about the cocktails but the people behind the bar were unable to tell us what they did and instead referred us to find a menu from one of the tables. Probably won't be going in here again but the DJ that was on at the time of visiting was OK if a bit loud for the size of the building.

J. B.Very nice and chilled pub! Lovely staff here and they’re all very friendly! The vegetarian/vegan menu is reasonable with a nice variety! The “Cajun Style Vegan Chicken Bites” are nice and come with a nice side sauce! Prices are also reasonable!

Meals were good, plenty on the plates, good price. Only downside was planters out the back had 4 bags of dog pooh in there, why would anyone think that is acceptable! Shame on whichever patrons put those there

L. M.As a vegan it's always a mission to get good food. I went there today and the vegan choice was limited. However, they did have one vegan choice of starter, main and pudding. The quality of food was really great. The picture provided does not look great but the taste was amazing!! The topping was potato rosti. The bar staff had no knowledge of vegan food and had endless trips to the chef to ask if roast potatoes, parsnips where cooked without mean juices. I have to admit he was eager to find out without any huffing or puffing. I will return. An enjoyable experience. Staff exceptionally tolerant!
A. D.Lovely pub on Hagley road. Part of the Ember Inn group. Popped in for a glass of red whilst waiting for the traffic to die down. Relaxed atmosphere with real log fires giving it a homely, rustic feel. Great range of ales, beers and wines! Reasonably priced.

T. N.Great ember inn pub with a good choice of food which is also good quality. Very reasonably fixed priced menu too, 3 of us are 3 courses for £14 each. Good choice of real ales and cider. Small beer garden outside which is in the sun during the day, shady of an evening. Big car park and situated on the Hagley road next to the park.

D. P.Never visited here before tonight, and what a treat. Friendly and welcoming, excellent food and Jake our waiter could not have been more helpful. Nothing too much trouble, helped us with the app, and even organised us seats after our meal to watch the football. This is above and beyond the service we've all come to expect, especially in and during lock down when we've experienced such rudeness by some shops/restaurants. Well done to all the team, but special thanks to Jake who really made our evening 🙂

M. D.A spur of the moment visit to the dog while out walking with friends and our 3 pooches today, a very wet day. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the cheesy chips, nachos and hot chocolates were hot and tasty and the dogs enjoyed their sausages. Nothing was too much trouble and they split the bill so we could pay individually by card. We will definately be back soon and thoroughly recommend.

g.Good atmosphere. Fairly busy. I'm knocking a few stars off because I think my car was scraped by another vehicle in the car park. I reported it to one of the staff members (name starts with M) who said he would view the CCTV footage and get back to me. I was expecting a call yesterday but nothing as yet. I was expecting a more professional approach. Other than that the beer is cold and crisp.

My main issue is with the staff - now don't get me wrong, the staff are all wonderfully helpful and happy people (mostly) but there never seems to be enough of them behind the bar. Even just a second person would dramatically cut the waiting times for a pint, yet they decide to only have one tender for a bar that big most of the time.
Definitely a place I would come to more if I knew I could be served!

J. C.Booked a table for food and drink tonight via website. Well sorted out for Social Distancing. Greeted at the door by friendly fella. Shown us to our table which had just been cleaned. Table was booked for a 2 hour slot. Ordered at the bar as had no network on our phones to order via the app. Shame there was no haddock available but 2nd choice of scampi was lovely as was my friends burger. Good nite would definitely return 👍👍

The menu has a great range of food, loved their fixed price menu , a family can have 3 courses and drinks and it so not dent the bank, really well priced. Would recommend and revisit again.

Deep fried brie was excellent. Butternut squash risotto not very good, very watery. Replaced with a quiche which was excellent. Service was good and friendly. All in all happy with the food and service, would recommend.

Decided to drop into the Dog and as always the warm atmosphere and friendly staff took the edge off a miserable day. Stopped for a steak and it was perfection, washed town with a fresh well kept beer and all with efficient friendly staff. After eating, just sat in one of the relaxing nooks in a comfy chair reading. (OK with a 3rd beer!) replete and refreshed. Can't recommend highly enough.

A. B.I went there last night for a bite to eat with a couple of friends from work, The food was excellent and my steak was cooked to perfection. I had the mixed grill, which I'll definitely be going back for! My one friend had the ultimate burger, which was huge (again- I'll be trying that!) and the other had a lasagne which looked delicious. They have a good range of drinks and have some speciality ales too. As for price - very fare and I've paid far more in the past, for much less. Overall, I'll definitely be going back!

A. B.This has been my 'local' for more years than I care to remember, so I was sad several months ago when I was asked to write a review and had to mention the problems there last year. ( mainly the lack of staff and the lack of management there ..but pleased to say these problems appear to have been resolved recently. Staff decently dressed. Nowhile no glasses waiting age's to be served. ( this has caused people to walk out the pub several times before to my knowledge , including myself and my friends) staff now very attentive and not having a nice chat between themselves while no glasses were available and counter and tables were heaving with dirty glasses...it's back to a nice friendly pub with a good atmosphere ! !

G.For many years this was one of my favourite pubs but sadly over the last few years it has gradually gone downhill to the point where someone clearly lost the plot and booked an awful reggae disco one Friday night we was in ?!!!! We gave the place a wide berth for a few months but decided to give it another go last Friday and we were pleasantly surprised that they are once again, starting to turn it around. The Dog is officially back in the game !
B. C.Standard pub with a good atmosphere, a little on the pricy side for the area but nothing drastic. Great specials on a Monday for beer and the food is really tasty. The outdoor area will be great in the summer!

Why can't places have a separate fryer for chips so at least a bowl of chips could have been ordered without gluten cross contamination! It isn't hard to do! Went for the quiz but didn't start til way after 9 and never ended til gone 11. And hard to hear the questions when there are drunken men balling their mouths off who have been in there since 3 in the afternoon! Pity their wives if they still have one! Won't bother going again.

Sit at the top or down the end where the smoking area is and you will freeze your bits off (if it's winter) each time the door is opened. ...which seems to be often....

m. m.I have been to the Dog several times and the atmosphere is spectacular. The staff are friendly and efficient. Food presentation and taste is spot on. We have never been disappointed and my friends that we introduced love the place just as much.

R.Food was good but the wait was way too long one of our group turned up later ordered his food only to be told an hour later that they didn't have his starter nor main meal available he reordered got his stater 20mins later then another 40mins later his main arrived & it was cold!!! Bar staff were slow, only one waitress serving everyone poor organisation.

This is the Amber Tavern. I live very near and a meal at home is better. BUT, I haven't been inside it this millennium. I had a Christmas dinner there, not on Christmas day. It doesn't seem to have changed much according to recent reviews, so I will try it again. The food was very dry, but I put that down to serving a lot of turkey in a short time. They were very hospitable to a group of Deafblind adults and treated us very kindly.
