Reviews of The Kerryman
T. T.
This pub is opposite the Birmingham coach station. Inside very traditional 1970/80 look. Bar maid friendly pleasant. Also saw her being quite firm with a couple of scammers who came in to the bar, hats of to her. It not a go to pub for a visitor but a drop in as going by type of place, unless you’re a local. As name suggests Irish roots in Birmingham Irish quarter. An unpretentious bar with good beer

Really nice Irish bar in a fab location...
Apart from some roadworks outside but what can you do about that.
Friendly staff and some great budget accommodation over bar.
Well worth a visit

Stayed overnight.
Great place to stay, nice rooms. Very clean.
Great place for a drink too. Nice customers and fabulous staff.
Wwet close to the shops, not noisy though.
Would definitely recommend

Fair drink price. Lovely staff. Got BnB upstairs with Airbnb app. Thank you for having us before Mel c concert
S. P. C.
Popped in for a few minutes. prices reasonable. Staff friendly. Toilets pleasant but broken lock on one door. Enquired about music. Not been in there for years. Used to spend Sunday and Monday evenings in there some years ago singing live with Des.

Digbeth has its gems and its establishments. The Kerryman falls into the latter category. A large venue with Ireland’s best tipples flowing from its taps. Quiet during the day, bustling on the evenings.

It was very quiet and I didn't like the drink they serve but that's a personal choice bar lady lovely

We landed at The Kerryman after the Skindred gig. From the outside, it looks like your standard Irish pub, on the inside, it's clean and tidy, but I can only describe the vibe as "campsite clubhouse". Don't get me wrong, this is not a criticism, just a weird atmosphere for a pub so close to the centre of Birmingham. It wasn't too busy and definitely had a bunch of obvious regulars/locals. We easily got a table, the drinks were not too expensive and were good. (Hobgoblin, Stella and Vodka & coke) The DJ wasn't ear splittingly loud so we could all hear ourselves talking. It just felt a little bit odd. I do think they are missing a trick by not trying to match the music being played with the local gig clientele. This place would also be rammed with thirsty post gig punters, as it's literly doors down from the Institute. Will deffo visit again.

Lovely places, bar staff always bringing good energy and good vibes
And always willing to listen and have a chat thank you Kelly and jade and Rachel and radar and Jessica
M. H.
Great Irish bar with nice locals who don't mind if you sing along to their type of music
B. L.
Nice spot for a quick pint, the staff are great too, always friendly and up for a chat. Keep it up.

Lovely staff a lovely pint of cold carling

Bit of a dive tbh. Guinness was decent but note to write home about. Full of sketchy looking buggers. I’m a bit rough me self so didn’t bother me but might put others off.
T. A.
Have a great night out loved the music and the staff
P. M.
Lovely Irish pub.Always stop for a pint and some friendly banter. ☺️☘️

Went on a Sunday afternoon for the afternoon tea group of 10... Was exceptionally quiet however as a group it didn't matter. The cream tea was absolutely faultless freshness taste choice and bottomless drink for 2 hours 🙈... Lovely lady behind the bar. Will definitely be going back 10/10

Absolutely brilliant, nipped in after the cricket. Watched the footy, had a superb pint of cool Guinness and excellent service. Thanks.

Popped in for a quick visit before a concert and was warmly welcomed by the staff behind the bar. There were a couple of unruly customers who put us off but they were very quickly spoken to and moved by the staff, who were very apologetic, to the other side of the bar which pleased us. Other customers made us feel very at home with stories and jokes and made us laugh. Would definitely pop in again if I'm local. Well done guys!!

Prices ok, needs tidying up a bit

I love this pub
Staff are always amazing and good choice off alcohol
K. S.
What a lovely pub,not many of these authentic pubs left. Customers are friendly and staff witty. Had a fab time, will be back!
M. A.
Average place. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good atmosphere. It looks a bit outdated. They have nice musical parties during weekends. Convenient location but no public parking.
A. G.
We stayed in one of the Airbnb rooms upstairs. It was good value for the price and location, but a bit dated. The pub downstairs was quiet because it was a weekday, but the roadway traffic was loud. Staff was amazing and we enjoyed our stay!
P. D.
Great place. Good beer fantastic service. Lovely. Comfy chairs and a juke box. Great place to catch up with friends over a few cold drinks. Check it out of in the area.
M. G.
Traditional Irish pub with a very good pint of Guinness. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere also has rooms above pub bed and breakfast recommend to anyone who's passing.
A. D.
Calls itself an Irish pub, but doesn't really play any Irish music or have much Irishness at all. Plays music that you can dance to until 4am, so it's a bit of fun. Has cheap and cheerful airbnb rooms for rent as well.
G. s.
In a way it hasn't changed since the 1980s ok quite a few things have but not much it's one of those places that seems to be time lock and that's only a good thing the atmosphere was top notch people as you would except perfect all-round but four stars because I just don't use that place match

I visited The Kerryman over the Christmas period. It’s safe to say the place blew me away. There were immediate reservations on arrival (having been in the company of Birmingham City fans, me being a Villa supporter) with the establishment based near St Andrews, but the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. I truly judge a pub on their selection of drafts - they did Strongbow Dark Fruits - utterly superb - great start. We were able to sit down in what I can only describe as the comfiest sofa I’ve ever sat in. The bar staff really took me in as one of their own, albeit they didn’t know my name. If it wasn’t for a curry house which we’d planned to go to, I’d probably still be sat in there now.
Bar staff: 9/10
Locals: 10/10 (I made friends for life in there)
Beer selection: 10/10
Service: with a smile x
Hats off to you all. There should be more pubs around Birmingham like The Kerryman.
J. A.
Hats of to the barstaff in here who are great with people, dealing with situation when we were in that could have been messy. Decent boozer with a good selection of drinks and very reasonable prices. Perfect for pre-O2 drinks!
N. J.
Grand atmosphere and cracking pint
G. O.
I popped in for a cup of tea and to do some work when I dropped my daughter at the concert venue next door. Kelly and Karen were so friendly and we chatted when they weren't working. I'd definitely recommend popping in and saying hi! :)
D. M.
A brilliant pub with a fairly priced good pint. Weekends are a blast with dj spinning until the early hours. I consider it one of the last proper pubs still operational in the West mids..
R. G.
It was a nice, clean place to stay, only downside is that there's is a gap between the window and window frame so if it's cold outside it's going to be a little chilly. Other than that nice room
T. A.
Really really friendly barstaff, warm, clean, and you can buy everything on contactless even a bag of crisps! Perfect stop off before any gig at O2 Institute.
m.
Proper bar worth a visit, made welcome by the staff nice pint of shipyard.
R. P.
Friendly and charming gentleman staff showed myself and a work colleague to our room after sampling the delights of the high class gin establishments of Broad Street such as Reflex and Pop World. Room location was perfect for my colleague who enjoyed a red bush tea while recording the coach number plates rolling into Digbeth #wheelsareturning

As an away fan at blues ground a few of us came here to celebrate victory after the match , have to say had a great time, staff are so friendly and service so quick , bluenoses took the banter, all in all had a great time,
