Reviews of The Navigation Inn - JD Wetherspoon
J. M.
This is a recently opened, refurbished establishment. Smells new and clean. Quite important, post-Corona!! Also "It's huge", inside. It has different drinking/dining zones, some with windows, some more secluded, some under a roof window. Dependant on your mood, you can situate yourself in a suitable area. The kitchen is right to the back, out of the way. The bar is also in a separate zone. I went there for breakfast on bank holiday Monday and it was Packed!! Not entirely full, but definitely buzzing. Food was a lovely breakfast - a classic breakfast with coffee.no complaints.good old fashioned, what-you-set-up is-what-you-get standard food. 🍛. Lovely for when you want a breakfast meet up with friends and/or family.
Also - I must mention the toilets. They were immaculate and traditional/modern-day feeling. If you judge a place by the toilets, you will surely be very satisfied. And for further security they had CCTV in the communal handwash/sink area.
The other lovely detail - the pictures. Much of a nod to local history. So - to recap...
Excellent food 🍛,drink 🍸, toilets 🚽 and history lessons 📕. These will keep you coming back.
p. b.
Very impressive renovation of this former historical pub.
Huge frontage beer garden with plenty of planters.
Large open plan restaurant and pub, with some little hideaways.
Service is swift and hopefully this will continue.
You can get a few characters in here, so bear that in mind if you prefer quieter venues.
Look forward to going again
S. E.
Absolutely love the refurb. Looks beautiful and the history is amazing, pictures and stuff to read.
Food arrives quickly too.
Very clean and just a joy to have it back in our area. Love it
S. S.
It's so different from when I used to work here back in the 1090's as a chef.
It's airy and spacious. I love the decor and the place is very clean which is be very important.
The food is good, the chips are cooked perfectly and the staff are great.
Good choice of wines and beers, etc. Prices are very reasonable.
It wasn't packed on a Saturday afternoon but still busy enough! It looks like it is already becoming a very popular family pub.
I went with my friend who is blind, he treated me to lunch. I am also his housekeeper and it's such a change to go out on a Saturday afternoon.
We will be back!

Lovely and spacious, and looks a lovely conversion, with lots of local historic info here with maps and photo's as part of the wall decoration.
Only one large TV mounted on the wall (at my date of writing (March 2022)) in comparison to the now closed Pear tree which had at least 3 TV's within a smaller area.
Various bus and railway connections a short walk away.
P. D.
Nice pub... Exceptionally busy, but brand new as a J.D Wetherspoon. Disappointed to see un cleared and un clean tables in a brand new venue, first week of opening! (Number one hate of most Wetherspoons customers) . Great value Spoons.
C. H.
Looks amazing since reopening, food & drink deals are good value for money & service is good if you use table app
P. 1.
Newly open and very inpressed.
Staff are friendly and efficient prices are great as youd expect. Great training has been done here and everyone should be proud of this new venue.
We had food the last time we went. Service took around 10 mins. Food runners were going at lightning speed to keep up with the very efficient kitchen.
Food was served well. Very hot and well presented. Even went to the pass to congratulate the kitchen staff who seemed to all be ladies #smashingitgirls
As a non drinker i continue to massively praise Wetherspoons for the price and selection of 0.0 alcohol beverages 🥳
C. S.
I have now visited The Navigation on 3 occasions since the place was refurbished & then reopened under the J. D. Wetherspoon banner.
First of all I have to say that a lot of money looks to have been spent on renovating the Old Navvy,
they deserve 5* for that alone. You would not recognise the place from how it was.
The menu is the same as any Wetherspoon that you happen to visit & I would like to say that the food is just as good & is very good value for money.
I think that it has already taken a lot of the trade from the two local pub eateries nearest to The Navigation & I would not be surprised if that proves to be the case.
I must say that The Navigation is well worth a visit, no matter what time of day you decide to pop in for a meal
M. M.
Lovely pub/ restaurant
- stunning decor inside and outside,
good food and friendly staff
O. (.
absolutely a lovely place, lovely art on the wall an i like the carpet! love the big open area, feels very warm atmosphere!
a. s.
Pleasant staff, reasonable prices , good food and pleasant atmosphere.
Lose 1 star as the meat on my larger mixed grill was slightly colder than I would have liked but very tasty. They where very busy at the time on a Sunday afternoon but serving was reasonably quick.
J. B.
Fantastic renovation to this old pub in historic Kings Norton. The car park was full, but the pub didn't seem to be as it is very spacious.
We had a pepperoni pizza and barbecue chicken pizza. They were excellent with perfect bases. As good as, or even better than some pizza chain restaurants!
D. S.
Very spacious & beautifully presented. The women's are very clean & surprisingly big with plenty of cubicals. There is even a small sink for the little ones which is brilliant. The bar area is always busy so I would recommend ordering via the App or you'll have a long wait to get served. There are big seating areas both front & back (the rear one allowing smoking).
If you are driving there is an onsite car park which is free for pub users just go to the far end of the bar input your reg number into the tablet placed there.
S. H.
Newly opened as a Wetherspoons in December 2021. Despite being busy the service was excellent with attentive staff. Enjoyed the excellent value meal and good beer.
E. B.
Really lovely Wetherspoons. Staff really friendly, clean and the food is good. Came here twice for breakfast whilst visiting friends, A** .
m. g.
Don't go at busy times. I went for a birthday meal it was packed out.
I had trouble parking my babys pram the only table available was a middle one. The steak could have been better. But the breakfast is great there.
D. P.
I have to give this place a HUGE well done . Friendly management, friendly experienced Bar staff and very efficient table service staff . One particular person I have noticed over the past few months is ANDY . He is on his feet ALL the time dashing around and doing a superb job. He clears the tables and wipes them down straight away. He has got a great attitude and temperament towards his job as well as commitment. He gets the job DONE. WELL DONE ANDY
J. K.
Only 3 stars from a disabled point of view because allowing none disabled cars to park in disabled places is a nightmare for wheel chair user. The staff who helped get 5 🌟 food was excellant and the beer was excellant good value for money. Only negative is that due to it being open plan it is very noisy in the whole pub. That said it is worth a visit.
D. M.
Super cheap drinks, in comparison to other pubs. Spacious, clean and tidy with decent choice of food. Friendly staff, shame you can't bring dogs as there are two Spacious beer gardens.
J. C.
Nice venue. Food is simple, but done well. Staff are friendly. Only down side is it's a nightmare to get out if you are in a car and need to turn right.
--Update April 2022
Still clean and friendly. Good simple food, vegetarian options are small but good. Never overly busy or loud.
J. L.
I have visited the Navigation Inn on several occasions and always found it to be clean and the staff very polite. I have always enjoyed the food. Unfortunately on Tuesday 5 April when I visited with my wife the kitchen staff were swearing loudly at each other and when a member of staff left the kitchen they were shouting at each other across the dining area. This made for a very unpleasant visit.
R. M.
Nice pub. Good beer and food. Been a few times now and enjoyed it's relaxed atmosphere. As long as manager keeps idiots out it will be fine.very busy and popular. Minus point the bar service always seems to be slow.
a.
We only go for Sunday /Saturday lunch with a small kid, then it doesn't get too busy, food is served very quickly, and I'd say it is actually better than at other Spoons around the country. Clean and nice and we are glad that we have it now for a little chilled family meal for a very healthy price.
D. P.
First time here (now the newness has settled). Met family for breakfast and everything was cooked to a good standard and was delivered to the table within 20 minutes of ordering.
There have been reports of trouble in the place which is untrue other than 2 issues that were dealt with very quickly resulting in the troublemakers being banned and details passed to other establishments in the area.
A. S.
Been there twice now in last 2 weeks..much larger than the building originally was. Weatherspoon menu..was very tasty meal I had..good value. Large out door seating area at front partitioned from carpark..large outdoor seating area at back..large indoor restaurant. Staff welcoming. All in all cannot fault ..I very much reccommend a visit. Andy.
J. M.
Breakfast time service is fantastic but it seems too busy at the weekend for the bar staff to cope. Had to wait 30 mins for our first round to arrive this Sunday (Jan 30th) and then 20 mins for the second round. Both times kitchen orders arrived well before drinks. Hoping it's just teething issues as it's a new Wetherspoons.
K. M.
I'm going to give this new Wetherspoons a 5 star rating. This evening was our first visit, a fairly busy Saturday evening but we found a table quite quickly. Prompt friendly service at the bar, we ordered five bean chilli and ham, egg and chips, a gin and slimline tonic and a large Pinot Grigio, it cost £11.38. I was so surprised I asked the bar person to check the order, twice. £11.38! Food came within 10 minutes and it was fine. There was a bustling pleasant atmosphere, very friendly staff. A well deserved 5 stars.
L.
Don't rate the food, ate a few times now. Don't think I'll bother again. Heard they microwave nearly everything for cheapness and quickness. And you can tell. The piece of streak I had was horrible so disappointed.
A. D.
Big spacious place, loads of indoor and outdoor seating, lovely historical features have been retained along with some local history. However, the service can let this place down, even when not busy, the staff are let's say very relaxed and in no hurry to serve. By a Weathersooons standard it's decent enough. Watch out for the parking and mKe sure yiu register your car inside, staff won't mention it.
T. C.
Went to The Navigation Inn with my mom for a mixed grill. The meal consisted of steak, pork loin, lamb chunk, gammon slice, two sausages, fried egg, chips and peas. The cost for each meal was around £11 which included a drink. The portion was a really decent size for the money, my only complaint is they overcooked the meat too much, mainly the pork loin. As its thin it went quite hard. However the place is clean, staff are friendly and it wouldn't put me off going again.
N. H.
I found my visit really good, it was clean, tidy and spacious, an old building but made modern inside with some nice old features, the toilets were large and clean, and the staff were friendly, efficient and there were enough staff around too,it was busy when I visited at lunchtime, but it did quiten down and was more chilled around 2pm.
I would go back again, and I would recommend to others.
E. D.
Cheap booze as all wetherspoon pubs have. It's an ok pub. Clientele is from the local estates ,so say no more. Haven't tried the food but I am led to believe from a family member it's ok. Definitely not haute cuisine!! I don't think Gordon Ramsay would give it a very high rating!!
P. A.
I used with a group of friends used the old Navigation back in the 1960s .So to revisit was facinating to see the changes .
The structural alteration are well designed and thought out I think ,open plan vs the original layout of the 1930s I guess or earlier ???. The food menu on offer was comprehensive and the price point was good .Service and staff friendlyness was good as well. Infact good pub grub with a good selection of beers and cider.
The friends I went with had used the pub back in the day and enjoyed the visit .
I would recommend the New Navigation .As a bonus it also has adequate car parking extend around the side .
J. G.
Woah! First time visitor to the Navigation ever, and also since it has been refurbed and changed into a Wetherspoons. And it's huge! Very deceptive size from the road, but once you walk in, it seems as big as a football pitch (probably isn't really 😂). But the place was well packed with happy diners on the Friday lunchtime we decided to go with no prior booking (don't think you can reserve a table anyway). My party of 4 were shown to a table in a cozy nook area and we ordered our drinks and food from my Wetherspoons app. Within a short time our drinks arrived by a friendly waitress, and soon after that our 2 steaks, 1 Whitby scampi and 1 Lemon & lime chicken dinners came. Well cooked and piping hot. Large bar area and impressive open kitchen area where you can see the (very) busy chef working his magic. Only slight disappointment is the short choice of puddings on the menu, compared to the large main meal choices. But, hey, that's my sweet tooth talking. Overall very impressed, and deffo will be returning soon.
B. H.
Bank Holiday Monday visit so expected it to be busy when we visited (5pm but thinned out a lot by 7pm) but a lot of the food on the menu was unavailable. Eight of us and only one got their first choice. Felt sorry for manager on duty and can't fault the staff on shift.
a. M.
Im not going to lie, i had my doubts about this pub. I thought "do we really need anothee wetherspoons?" but they've done a lovely job with it. I love that the design of the building is tied to various things related to the canal network thats nearby. You can feel the thought thats gone into it and that they have really connected it to the local community, its got its own identity and doesn't feel like the same old pre-fab wetherspoons that's dropped in so many towns.
The staff are lovely and its a the drinks are not too expensive. Ill definitely go back again in the near future.
M. P.
Absolutely beautiful pub. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Beer selection is obviously fantastic. Food also very tasty. Overall very pleasant indeed.
M. W.
First visit to this new Wetherspoons, it was busy and loud, staff were nice, and service was good. Ordered steak, there was deluxe or normal and the normal was just steak and chips, no salad or anything else, sp a bit disappointing, tasted nice but was disappointed.
A. H.
Well busy but got served at table.ordered food. It can quickly and was perfect. Great staff really hard working bang on place would highly recommend
a. t.
Awesome place well laid out, excellent food will definitely be visiting again, only 1 thing the staff need to learn where the table numbers are situated outside as we watched our food do a tour of the outside smoking area before we could attract their attention
Y. c. Y.
Superb how they've done up the old pub, and food lovely, highly recommend use it when in the area, staff very friendly and helpful 😀
d. W.
Now the food is great cheap and cheerful tastes nice. Bit when thru have it in, we go early for breakfast and not alot in menu
Biggest big bearer is the state of tables and floor never seem to be cleaned
p. S.
Beautifully done up. Good food. Ambiance is enjoyable. Staffs are friendly and cheerful.
Have to mention the restrooms, it's a treat ☺️
A. T.
Nice pub nice surroundings. Good staff - But - noisy foul mouthed clientèle.
More a lunch time working mens pub than somewhere to take family.
I'd go again, but on my own.
T. A. P.
Had one of the best Fish n Chips we'd had in a long time, newly refurbished Wetherspoons, it's all sparkly and new but it's BIG and busy with young people when we were there, not cosy enough for us and lacks a bit of atmosphere, but we would return.
P. B.
Nice pub good selection of real Ales. Bar service is a bit hit or miss from great service to poor service at times leaving you feeling very wound up.... great food if you like Weatherspoons food. Which I do!!
C. H.
A model for all Wetherspoon's pubs. Light, bright and welcoming. Enthusiastic and motivated staff. The best cod and chips in any Wetherspoon's visited in the last 5 years. Considerate service given to my blind colleague.
L. C.
The pub is clean and well staffed. We have visited twice to eat the first time they had no salad and the second no chicken with no rose wine or even still water. Disappointing
E. J.
One of the best Wetherspoons with an amaxing look and pretty spacious indoors and outdoors nearly 700 tables. Great customer service and atmosphere. Food was well cooked and served well.
J. R.
This is definitely one of the nicer Wetherspoons pubs, really nice decor, friendly staff, good food. Big car park at the front with more at the back. Worth a visit if in the area.
W. W.
Fantastic, quick service with a nice chilled quiet atmosphere, only one flaw was the lamb on my mixed grill was very cooked on the outside and raw in the middle.
T. V.
It wasnt very busy and plenty of staff . Unfortunately , 3 members of staff just stood there talking instead of cleaning tables ( I had to ask for the table to be cleared before sitting at a booth. Service is slow. When getting a drink at the bar there was only 1 member of staff serving while again 4 members of staff stood talking with seven people waiting for service.
W. R.
The Navvy is now a great place to go. Loads of space inside and out. Friendly staff. Great beer. Great atmosphere.
What's not to like! 😎👍
J. H.
Huge recently refurbished pub has large internal and outdoor areas,we had pizza which was really good and weatherspoons prices very good.
L. B.
Nice pub, just a shame that children have to leave by 21:00pm 🤷♀️
Where the black horse in northfiled have kids allow to stop to god knows what time!!
Why is one rule for one pub and a different rule for another
I. H.
We attended with our friends who live in the area. We ordered via the app and where served very quickly. Food was spot on and service with a smile
M. T.
Really nice refurb , good selection of beers , hopefully they can keep the riff raff clientele out and maintain the good standard of pub it is now
D. J. M.
Went for breakfast very clean nice staff fab decor great to read some of the local history .first wetherspoons where the staff actually clear the tables well worth checking out car parking still free
No issues.
Just remember to imput your car reg on the consol at the bar .
A. W.
Would have given 4 stars but they constantly don't have the food on the Menu!
Staff very friendly and food was warm and tasted good and was a bargain 4 breakfast and drinks for under £20
Only lack of available food on Menu holds it back
S. D.
Very 'home' feeling the ks to the decor and friendly atmosphere, good food delivered promptly, and reasonably priced place.
j. p.
I was very sceptical about trying the food here after reading bad reviews but I was very pleasantly surprised. The food was very nice. Good prices. Definitely recommend
L. F.
A lot of things were out of stock. Nothing but ketchup packets available for sauce.
Place was clean and food/drinks came in good time.
D. K.
Lovely food absolutely delicious.
C. B.
Friendly and professional staff, nice food and drink and very nicely furnished and done out really nice. A big improvement on what it used to be!
s. w.
Nice food and very big lol. Should have no problem finding a table.
K. M.
Lovely big place food was amazing, service was exceptional prices were amazing. Will definitely be our local moving forward. Highly recommend
H. T.
Lovely open plan area, staff and food are great. Highly recommended.
K. P.
Weatherspoons have done it again, with a pub that was rather a rough place, daytime meal and drinks good, the way they have revamped is a typical Weatherspoons, you know what you're going to get, good service and atmosphere, definitely go again.
M. P.
Absolutely beautiful pub. The refit is a total success. Loads of good ales on tap. Typically good Spoons food and lovely staff.
Q. D.
I attended the Weatherspoons for the morning of my 40th Birthday on the 10th February 2022, I met with the ladies for a few drinks. I really enjoyed this place, the staff were friendly and accommodating, I'd certainly go there again.
P. D.
Supprisingly vast. We were in and every table was occupied and the bar was busy. Had a table order go missing but the staff were quick to apologise and remade the order. Friendly, nice, polite.
M. G.
First visit but definitely not the last! Plenty of space. The usual good food and very quick service. Friendly efficient staff.
N. T.
Bin here a few times now for breakfast and I have to admit for a weatherspoons the breakfast was spot on nothing was burnt or cold which I was surprised. Staff was very friendly and polite. Will be going back again soon
W. S.
Went for the first time carnt believe the transformation of the pub how much space to relax an have some lovely food ,an some cocktails hopefully going back soon 😋
R. S.
Usually I don't like weatherspoon pubs but I got to say, breakfast was tasty and hot and arrived fast
Pub has been well refurbished.
Shame they took out the play area for kids
D.
Well I was 16 when I first pop in this pub I lived in Stirchley not far it's always been a favourite of mine but as I am getting on and will not drink and drive not been there for a few years 76 years old now
But we pop in last week as it had not long changed by taxi Well my god its absolutely fantastic food fantastic
For 4 meals 4 drinks Only £35 and the charges have been very sympathetic to it's history thank god and still a very friendly place
Well almost certainly be going back
T. M.
Love it here... staff really helpful and friendly... food ok... would recommend
A. O.
Bit dull inside like all Weatherspoons, but nice and airy outside well maintained and staff friendly
V. T.
Food was good and fresh. Lovely sitting outside for the first time this year.
Great how all doors and windows open up.
T. N.
Lovely food. Friendly staff. Went on a busy Sunday but everything came quickly and was well prepared
G. T.
Nice refurbished, food took a while to come out and had to ask for the food as 2 out of 3 of us had ours but no sign of 3rd till we asked.
j. R.
Recently taken over by Wetherspoons. What a difference, modernisation I to one large drinking and eating area but with local information on the canal, the area of King's Norton, factories and what they made. Carpet has been specially designed to take in the Royal side of Kings Norton. Not far from canal, 2 car parks, front and rear. Car park charges yet to be utilised. Breakfast served until 11.30am. I
V. H.
Lovely new pub, huge place , unfortunately no pizza, no chicken and loads of other stuff unavailable. Disappointed. Drinks OK.
S. T.
Good service and food , very nice atmosphere, will certainly go again .
S. J.
Fights started in the first week as asual. Nice modern architecture mixed with traditional pub aesthetic and decor. Outside area both back and front have seating and carpark extends to the side. Haven't been inside but from the floor to ceiling windows you get a clear view of those inside or out
K. A.
Excellent, quick service, friendly helpful staff.
Great renovation has been done on this place, smells brand new still, looking forward to our next visit!
D. I.
Its a Weatherspoons.. Refurbished so clean and pristine. Very busy so many items not available on menu, service was good but kitchen staff sending out cold food items.
J. O.
It's weatherspoons open plan plenty bar space and staff restraunt food prompt Not a classic traditional quiet pub.
D. H.
Transformation of the Navigation! Very well set out. Food and service very good. Getting more expensive than some other "pub" chains
j. c.
Very nice airy pub. Pleasant staff and quick service. Affordable prices nice range of menus.
S. T.
Looks good after the takeover and refurb. Chose a Bank Holiday for first visit so very busy and short of a few things but friendly staff made up for that.
J. J.
It's a big space and nicely decorated...but its pub grub at the end of the day, it was better than average pub grub, but pub grub....
C. A.
Always have Sunday breakfast here. Service is usually good
A. V.
Nice new pub ,but needs to get the right glass's for the drinks thay sell ,if you going to sell Belgium 🇧🇪 beer 🍺 do what they do in Belgium 🇧🇪 and use right glass
J. M.
It was good there were 4 of us nice fish and chips best we had for a while.
D. P.

Burger was great. But you need to stock up on you cocktails. No sailor jerry rum so could not order jerry loves ginger and captain morgans spiced rum out of stock. I ordered 'tropical burst' but was made with white rum. This is the only thing that made you get 3 starts. Definately a place to visit.
