Reviews of The Rainbow
E. D.
Fantastic changes have been made since I visited the "old" rainbow pub venue. Decor is tasteful, bar and seating is gorgeous and classy.
I've had the Sunday dinners from BaHa (vegan) twice now and both times have been outstanding. Really delicious food and worth every penny.
Staff are great - really friendly, helpful and on top of everything. I don't think I saw an empty glass or unclean table for longer than 30 seconds before a staff member was on it - really good work.
Only thing I would say, is research your drinks prices. Some things are really well priced and good value when some other things are pretty expensive compared to other venues in the area.
Also when eating our dinner at 7pm on a Sunday, the music got cranked up to an unbearable level - we couldn't hear our conversation, so we did leave after food rather than having another drink to somewhere a bit quieter. I think this might have been done to cover up the sound of the gig going on in their room next door (that was also shaking the floors).
Really good venue but I would recommend checking if there's a gig on next door before coming down for food!

Delicious food, there was of bit of a wait on our orders but that was no big deal as the atmosphere was great. I had the 'King of Roasts' which was incredible. I love the fried king oyster mushroom, it goes hand in hand with the garlic herb butter. I paired this Kentucky Wings which I ordered with Maple Barbecue sauce, perfect combination. My girlfriend had the Lentil loaf was quite dry so it needed a bit more gravy, and the veg was a touch on the cold side.
Overall, it was a lovely Sunday lunch, a really nice end to the week. I'd recommend to all, vegan, vegetarians and meat-eaters.

Great to see the Rainbow pub back up and running. Great selection of beers great vegan food and vegan Sunday roasts. The roast dinner was tasty and very well presented. I'm not vegan myself but I enjoyed the food nontheless, five stars !!!
C. O.
REALLY nice burgers and fries. The spicy mocktail was really good too. The salad was okay but I probably wouldn’t order it again, nothing special.

Been twice. This is my favourite pub in Birmingham.Great range of beers and superb vegetarian Sunday roast. I'm no veggie but it's the best pub Sunday lunch ever.
V.
Great bar staff and Baha's kitchen has the best vegan food in the city. Their kentucky burger is amazing and is my go to place to treat myself
T. M.
Nice place, cosy and cool atmosphere, clean and stylish. Staff very friendly and kind.
Too bad the kitchen was absolutely useless.
C. C.
Great selection of drinks including cocktails. All the food here is vegan, but don't let that out you off, it really is another level, can't recommend enough. Great little music venue downstairs and a beer garden to boot.
J. W.
Great food and great service. They were really busy when we arrived but kept us updated and in the loop about how long our food would be and it was worth it when it arrived. Amazing range of cocktails and cute heated outdoor seating area too!

Decided to visit after seeing some reviews, thought we'd do a tour of Digbeth and some of the bars & pubs.
I can't comment on the old Rainbow as I've no idea but,it's very nice inside, and upon arrival a member of staff cleaned the table.
Music was good, albeit the thumping noise from downstairs.
There was a mix up with the food and the attitude of the server & the manager gave us the impression that we were not welcome.
The food was very average and we won't be returning. I would much rather go to the The old Crown.
K. C.
5 stars for the basement! I was at an event that started outside (smoking area bit) then moved to the basement and it was a lot of fun. Not sure what it's like during normal operating hours but I had a great time when I visited
R. P.
One of the must visit gig venues in Brum. Great beer, food has a great reputation but most of all, the space is fantastically used with the main stage in the basement, a large covered courtyard with sporting events available on multiple screens and cosy rooms for more intimate pub visits. The architecture is fantastic with most of the original features having been left exposed.
C. D.
Great place to have a drink and had some great nights out here. Bar staff are friendly and treat everyone as if they're a regular. Just a great atmosphere all round
S. R.
Decent live music venue, good beer, friendly staff. Only negative is the view as the stage is low due to the ceiling height, but that adds to the atmosphere and intimacy of the place.
K. A.
The really nice pub, inside was really comfortable, with good selection of beers & cocktails, staff all friendly & helpful. Really nice outside space too
T. B.
Nice venue, however after asking if the venue was dog friendly whilst my girlfriend was outside, and the barman saying yes to inside and outside, got inside with my dog and then the other barman shouted across the room to the contrary and was told we could only go outside. Would be good if they had a clear policy firstly that their bar staff actually knew, and then on their website or socials, nothing was visible. Can't really see why a dog can't be inside a pub with a wooden floor on a Sunday afternoon, would do less harm than most people! A non-dog friendly pub these days isn't a good pub.

Service and beer was great very very friendly staff, don't wanna slate too hard but my topped chips were cold and the burger wasn't up to scratch shame the food rly kinda let this. Place down paid a fortune for the burger too no offence to the chefs but food wasn't any good at all
J. G.
Hands down the best Old Fashioned I've had in Birmingham. Excellent service on the bar, and very attentive when we ordered food. Service was great and food was delicious. Live music later on in the basement which was also amazing! Had a fantastic night.
V. C.
Awesome drinks (bar staff really take care on the cocktails, very appreciated!!) Lovely refurb and make sure you check out the food from Baha!!!
R. J.
The refurbishment of this famous place has been very tastefully done. The cosy terrace area and TVs with a live feed from the music venue in the basement are a really nice touch. As for the basement itself; the epic lighting and sound system draw you in immediately and the rustic aesthetic gives it a proper underground club vibe. House band and DJ are on point 👌.
J. S.
Newly refurbished venue and what a thing of beauty it is. Awide range of beers also love what they are doing with the music. Food is to die for also the cocktail menu is special too Will 100% be making this my second home
J. f.
Drinks overpriced for what you get. The cocktails are all pretty simple and the bartender's don't know how to make them. Food was bang average. They've give the place a decent revamp though and the live music downstairs was a nice touch
B. M.
This is undoubtedly the best atmosphere I have experienced for years. The staff are all friendly and helpful, this is then mirrored by the happy customers. The venue itself is a thing of beauty. You have the basement downstairs with its own bar and live music, there is an outdoor area with a bar and TV for live events streamed on TV, this area also doubles up as the smoking area. The main section of the venue is a modern but traditional looking pub, with stain glass windows and a proper traditional wooden bar. I'm not a vegan but the vegan only food here is tasty enough that I didn't even realise it was vegan. This is a must visit venue for me on any trip to town, whether its day shopping or out on a night. Highly recommended.

Food was lovely, good sized portion and staff were friendly. Definitely a great place for veggies or vegans to go to.
E. F.
Popped in the pub for some food after the gym; food was epic, beer perfect, just what I needed at the end of a long week and the customer service was another level! Not experienced customer service like this in a bar for a long time! Welcoming and friendly, we will be back. Thank you
J. H.
Really nice pub with good pints on offer. They also do a collab with BaHa food who make insanely good food
M. P.
We came because of BaHa offering DELICIOUS vegan food but were pleasantly surprised by the cosy but vibrant interior.
Definitely where you want to be for a roast and some drinks on a Sunday afternoon 👌
L. T.
My partner and I visited here for a Sunday roast. The food was amazing - we had a vegan roast dinner by ba-ha vegan and it was superb! The only negatives are things that could easily be fixed. The drinks are exceptionally overpriced and the staff are not trained in cocktail making. I ordered a margarita and the lady serving me had to look at the instructions hidden in the till. The drink was subpar at best and put me back almost £10. My husband wanted a bloody Mary, after having had a few drinks the night before he didn't want anything too boozy. Surprisingly this wasn't offered. There was no condiments available, mint sauce etc. I don't think I've ever eaten out at a place where condiments aren't offered with a roast dinner. The next time I visit I will bring a jar with me!
All in all, we enjoyed our visit but it could've definitely been better by just tweeking what are essentially the basics. If you can't do that then at least lower the prices to reflect the service.
S. M.
Smart refurb on its reopening. Decent choice of quality draft drinks, but not a real ale type of place. Broad range of gins as well. Smartened up its image from what it was before.
c. w.
Was very impressed by this menu and quality of the food and the atmosphere was great too. Worth a visit
G. D.

Great night, great bands, high drink prices though
N. D.
Lovely decor and atmosphere, food was quite expensive for what it was.
K. T.
One of the best venues in Birmingham, so happy it is back open and now with a tasty looking cocktail menu and Baha serving up vegan deliciousness. So many great memeories in here it was good to be back with friends to enjoy a sunday roast and the footy before strolling around the corner for a live show. The Rainbow is a place of ledgends
M. W.
Great vegan food menu from Baha. Nice cocktails. Cool place
A. H.

R. M.
Amazing vegan food and great atmosphere
D. J.
Excellent pub and cracking refurbishment
C. O.
The odd thing is about the bouncer, he was kinda racist. He took me from the queue even tho i had the ticked printed, then another bouncer told him "he looks okay let him in" I don't know what's the criteria for not being allowed in. I wasn't drunk or badly dressed. I think the bouncer who is doing this should be fired. Other then that, the club is the best clubbing scene in Birmingham ! Tho the sound is clearly not top notch but it's okay !
M. F.
Much better than I expected
L. T.
Saw The Novus there, great gig at a great venue.
J. C.

Planet Zykotika awards 5 Stars
Took a trip to The Rainbow late 2016 to see a couple of bands we have been following for future gigs... Very well looked after by the management & staff.. Great atmoshere and vibe and a well organised operation there.. looking forward to going back..
R. T.
Excellent bar, great atmosphere
A. H.
Drinks are overpriced which is evened out buy the lack if staff to serve you, at the end if the night it all breaks even in that you spend as much as you would in a pub that were fully staffed and charged normal drinks prices
A. S.
Baha kitchen is awesome
J. L. G.
Gooooorgeous refit !! .... top cocktails, and yummy food
J.
Delicious BA-HA food!
K. S.

M. S.
This is the real peaky blinders bar.

Made festival - Nasty atmosphere at the main stage, but the more rave style rooms were better music and much friendlier people
P. G.
Small but good live music venue. Drinks are a bit on the pricey side though!
C. K.
