📍Nicholson’s @ The Shakespeare Inn
1. Toad in the Hole (£10) - Outdoor-bred British pork sausages inside a Yorkshire pudding with creamy mashed potato, topped with a rich balsamic caramelised onion gravy. Served with steamed greens and glazed Chantenay carrots.
Verdict: Toad in the hole done right - a historic & phenomenal meal indeed!! 🐸 This dish has a unique taste that is enticing that I could barely restrain myself from diving right in 🤤 It was indeed a hefty meal for one person as the portion was enormous, but it was just stupendous that I was able to finish it all by my own 🤩 The Yorkshire pudding was a beaut from inside to out- the savoury baked pudding was slightly crispy on the outside while retaining its airiness and fluffy texture on the inside; the thick buttery and eggy dense centre which nestled 3 big scoops of creamy mashed potato and jumbo sausages, soaked up the piping hot balsamic caramelised onion gravy well. There was a nice juicy bite on the sausages, and I’ve to admit that the rich onion gravy was spot on, as it paired well with everything on the plate. The highlight was definitely the Yorkshire pudding as it was gently crispy and beguilingly fluffy while not carrying a hint of grease despite its mode of preparation 😍😍
The Shakespeare Inn has its own distinctive warmth, genuine service and vibrant atmosphere. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this characterful pub which serves Autumnal dishes with modern twists. Prepare your taste buds for seasonal delights you’ll only find here within their historic walls. A superb range of cask ales from specialist breweries, as well as delicious freshly cooked pub food available. Cheers mate 🍻

Very nice place to spend time. Good food and friendly staff. Try it

Absolutely amazing staff and great drinks. The ambiance appreciates the name and has a proper pub feel with old wooden architectural decor and interior. The location is convenient - 1 min from the grand central station and the service is super.

I visited yesterday, had a day to kill whilst waiting for some work to be done on the car. Went in at about 11:30 so have a drink and some food.
Bar staff extremely welcoming, manager present and very pleasant too. Food ordered, took a little while, but I'm glad it did as ot was fresh, hot and excellent! Had the Nicholsons burger, big plate, just what I needed.
Obviously popular as well by the way it filled up.

We enjoyed a late lunch here. It was nice and filling. Service was quick as well. We will be back.

Fab Nicholson's pub serving well kept beer. Only problem is, since they made the main entrance for New Street station close to this pub, it is constantly very busy and you can struggle to get a seat.

An ideal place to have a quick drink before catching the train! The door staff were very good keeping an eye on the outdoor seating area where some 'heavy drinkers' were rather over familiar with other customers. Thanks to the door staff!

Amazing pub in the centre of Birmingham great food and lovely atmosphere and amazing staff, came up from Oxford for the day and chose to use a local company . We should all be using local business and not huge chain companies. Once again thank you for an amazing lunch and a tru Birmingham welcome 🙏 😊

Friendly staff, beer nice, great range to choose from... however the toilets are not the best, especially for how many ladies go in the pub. They could be better located, bigger, and cleaner

Actually a great pub and great food inside. Don't be put off by the smoking area just in front. I recommend for good pub grub (fish and chips and the pie) and a good pint of Guinness or London Pride (which we had). The only reason why I didn't put 5 stars is due to the layout of the pub. They advertise showing the 6 nation's and honestly I could only see 3 small tvs which were difficult to see.
