Reviews of Spyglass & Kettle

The spyglass and kettle is in a great location on the clifftop in southbourne and they make the most of this with a conservatory dining area which is very nice, although a little cool on a winter's evening. We were there on a saturday and it was busy, with staff somewhat overstretched. Our meal was fine which was probably a good thing as I dont think they would gave coped well with any issues or additional requests.
However, for reasonable pub food and a good evening, it is worth a visit.

Fabulous place visited yesterday with dog to shelter from the rain before booking into the b&b. Staff amazing in this place, manager/brewery listen up give them a payrise if you havent already they are a credit to you and your establishment they loved Dexter Dog gave him treats and water. The Guinness was very nice as well. A gem of a place!!

Wouldn’t usually use a Green King house, but was hungry and it looked the most appealing of the pubs along that stretch of the road. I have to say how pleasantly surprised I was. Have returned twice since after spending the day at the beach and have to say have not been disappointed. Staff pleasant and attentive, food reasonably priced and tasty.
Would definitely recommend.

An excellent 4 night stay. My room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast included with a full English plus cereals fruit toast etc and a choice of smaller cooked options. The restaurant evening food was excellent with a good selection and bearing in mind that it was packed out every evening the service was superb. Within 10 minutes of ordering.

We stayed for 3 night at this nice inn. The beach is across the road and our room was nice and clean and comfortable. All the staff were friendly and helpful the food was good and the gin and tonic is nice and cheap. Would stay again Southbourne is a really nice little town.

Nice clean place, outdoor seating as well as inside, friendly chatty staff. A very decorative and pretty bar, serving great Greene King real ales plus all the usuals.
The food service was speedy when we went but there was a warning of delays at busy times (fair enough). We had a lunchtime meal deal, a main meal each with a drink which made it an extremely affordable visit. Excellent!

We had dinner here with 4 adults and one child. The service was a lot slower that what we experienced last year, perhaps they are understaffed. The service was friendly, but we just had to wait a long time for our food. The food was lovely, and sort on par what you would expect in a decent pub. Great selection of beers, especially the icebreaker IPA. Would recommend if you don’t mind a slightly slower service, although I do recognise the staff must be working hard.

Went on a Sunday and the roast dinners weren’t great and it was mentioned to the manager, give him his dues he refunded us for those dinners. The rest of the food was good though and no complaints regarding service. **dog friendly**.

Mixed feelings, but in general good and we'll give it another chance. Starting with bad, the fish and chips were below the average and waiting time for food over an hour is a bit too long. But other food we had in the party such as mixed grill and hamburger were great as well as the space and atmosphere in here. What would deserve 5* were the staff! Very kind and friendly! Thanks for that.
