G. S.We had a lovely Sunday lunch in the Hunters Lodge. The service was very good and the food was delivered to the tables promptly. The food was of very good quality and was piping hot. The deserts was of high standards. This was the best food we have had as a family for a long time. We were a party of 11 and all enjoy.

L. F.A couple of weeks ago we contacted the Hunters lodge about holding a wake there. Spoke to a lovely young lady at the time to discuss some options. We had the wake yesterday and would just like to a big thank you to all the staff involved, the buffet was very nice and plentiful. The staff were again lovely and friendly, nothing to much hassle, even catering for one of our party who has a nut allergy.
Would thoroughly recommend a visit to the Hunters lodge and not just for a wakes

H. O.Nice enough, but arrive early if you want Sunday lunch, we arrived around 4pm and it was all gone by then. What we ended up having was aok though. They have effectively split the pub in 2, and it works very well, thumbs up to the landlord/lady for that. Our first time visit, I'm sure it won't be our last as daughter just moved to Brackla.

l. m.Had food and drinks at Hunters Lodge last month, on the 29th August. Our table was served by a young girl called Tyla.
Overall, the service was fast and friendly. Tyla, who took care of our table and orders, had a pleasant manner and friendly demeanour. Nothing was too much trouble for her during our visit.
Although we ordered a few different food dishes, all plates arrived shortly after one another so we were able to eat together as a group. No complaints with any of the meals, as all food delivered to the table, arrived hot and were enjoyed by everyone.
Would return for another visit based on this experience. Good value for money with the food, portions were generous, and the establishment had a relaxed atmosphere.

D. D.Haven't been to the Hunters Lodge for probably a year or more. The last time we went we just thought that everything was all so wrong, apart from the staff, who have always been amazing but the place was cold, depressing & so dated.
I heard it had been updated, so today decided to give it another try
OMG! cannot get over the transformation, its amazing. So fresh, modern but cosy, comfortable, warm & inviting.
Honestly if you're out & about & looking for a bite to eat that is very reasonable and has a varied menu, I'd definitely give the Hunters Lodge a go.
I do feel that Bridgend is a bit limited on decent affordable places to eat, even more so for me personally somewhere close to Brackla.
I feel very lucky to have the Hunters Lodge close by. We use to go there quite regularly after work, but gave up on it as it wasn't the best.
So now looking forward to becomimg a regular customer again, so recommend, even the menu is improved.
One last note, we had the all day breakfast, awesome & it beat me, a little bit!
M. H.We've been fortunate enough to frequent the Hunters Lodge for many years, but we can honestly say that the current menu is excellent value and suits all tastes. The bar staff are so warm, welcoming and always friendly with great banter. Look forward to spending many more enjoyable evenings at the Lodge.
B.Recent refurb looks amazing. Darts, pool, TVs showing sports, great atmosphere. Staff were really welcoming and the food was excellent. Nice pint too!

B. J. H.We've been coming to the Hunters Lodge for decades. It has always been a bit of a budget meal kind of place - the sort of outing you do mainly for catchup with friends/family or an easy bite to eat but not the sort of place you'd choose for a nice high quality meal. But with that in mind it generally ticks the box.
However, you do need to choose your meals quite carefully. Because many of the meals are literally just pre-prepared microwaved dishes. Pie and mash, for example, will be served as a soggy warmed up pie and a dolop of warmed up mash, also with some hard peas that failed to survive the microwave. So I would avoid these kinds of dishes.
But other dishes, such as lasagne, do warm up quite well so even though it is still microwaved food you could easily have done yourself at home, it does at least taste quite nice and you won't feel like eating it is a chore.
But the best thing to do if coming here is to get one of the grilled items off the menu (steak etc). Because these do need to be cooked somewhat on demand, so you won't get served something warmed up in the microwave.
So if I was rating Hunters Lodge based on the grilled items I might give a 4*, with that being based mostly on value for money. It won't be anywhere near the best steak meal you've ever had, but it will be an acceptable meal at a good price.
But if rating based on the dishes I said to avoid, I'd give Hunters a 2* because these are really low quality meals that are not worth paying any money for in my opinion.
Hence my actual rating of 3* is in the middle of these.
Z. O.Update Dec 2022. Had a Xmas do with the volunteer rangers. Great Xmas menu, loads to eat, lots of great service from the staff. Really good prices. The recent refurbishment has made it a lovely place to eat and drink.
March 2019, called in for a quick bite before a road trip. Extensive cheap menu and pleasantly surprised by dishes. Choose the all day breakfast and it arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. All very hot and looked freshly cooked. It wasn't busy but it wasn't quiet either so amazed at how fast we were served. Food was good and tasty even the toast was hot. Will definitely use it again for a quick bite. The lounge side was cosy, tidy and pleasant. Staff friendly and accommodating. The Bar side is a bit open and airy but probably OK for families as some of the tables are larger.

C.Despite having two members of the team off sick and a lot of orders, this was a pleasant surprise to find! The food was very good, and delivered pretty quick too. My partner and I agreed we could have comfortably have spent an afternoon in a corner with a beer or three, if we'd had more time and no driving ahead of us. Thank you!

G. N.I went here a few days back after many years and was pleasantly surprised. While the look and feel is pretty generic I actually found it quite inviting. The old smell and stickiness of the place is gone and the refreshed menu offers decent, good value food. I especially liked the 3 or 5 small bites option which was a good snack for a family of 4.
Will give this a try next time I'm looking for somewhere to grab a full meal.

However... when you go in it's clean and warm there is dinning separate to the main bar which is nice. Good Food. N. K.Excellent varied menu, and friendly staff. The prices are very reasonable. I ordered a a mixed grill, but sadly the steak was extremely chewy and bland. The pepper sauce, whilst lovely, arrived cold. The chips are of poor quality, the chicken was lovely, juicy and flavourful, and the egg was cooked to perfection. The Cumberland sausage was very nice also. My fiancée was disappointed in her meal unfortunately, she ordered the jumbo meat free sausage roll. Which came out chewy and greasy, it was obviously microwaved. All the food arrived very quickly which is a worrying sign also.

P. M. L.I was in a funeral wake there last Thursday and the spread was frugal! There were around 50 people there and the landlord was watching what everyone was putting on their tea plate!! That's the first wake that I've been to that used tea plates. What the general meals are like, I've no knowledge. I can only comment on my experience.
