1 star for the most horrifying comedy stand ups I've ever seen....just awful! Great pub with awesome staff though and 5 stars for both!
C. W.
Good little dive bar. Friendly locals, sticky floors and good music. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty this is the bar for you
N. E.
Good pub, nice pint of hop head. Pool table, free jukebox on Tuesday advertised
J. V.
Good vibes, solid jukebox and great selection of draft lager.
R. D.
Great service, great atmosphere. Very sweet bar staff. Nula makes you feel at home 😊 Poll table, garden area out back and entertainment upstairs!
j. S. J.
Attention proprietor of 'The Caroline of Brunswick' pub do you lease from the brighton Rainbow group of pubs?
J. C.
Cool place to go if you like rock and metal music, reasonable prices, nice staff 👍
D. D.
I had a VIP treatment , they turned the music down for me .
S. “.
A nice friendly pub with a great bar supervisor.
A. L.
really great pub with great music and snake bite and black i love it
M. H.
Release the Bats and Below the Lights... two cracking music nights they put on :)
A. E.
This place is one of the best boozers around London Road.
Friendly staff, great music (mainly rock), great atmosphere and a pool table. The outdoor seating area is pretty nice too!
The selection of beer is great as they're one of the few places nearby that serve more lagers than just Pravha.
There's lots of events that go on upstairs too, including drag shows, live music, theatre and comedians.
5/5 stars, and that's not even mentioning the three headed dog that greets you on the way in.
T. H.
Nice old school pub, no pillocks, friendly staff and lush little back yard.... Tidy
P. S.
A really great venue, with amazing staff.
Y. H.
Cerberus greets you (in the form of a huge 3-headed dog statue, hanging just over the bar) as you enter to this little local rock-metal realm, with the perfect soundtrack to match the vibe.
Staff are awesome, there's the usual bar food, and a bit of everything to drink.
There are also outside seating at the front for you smokers, as well as an enclosed back garden.
They offer a range of tabletop games, and even a pool table (albeit not the best...)
Dogs are welcome.
R. J.
Grungy pub opposite the level which hosts weekly comedy shows in an upstairs room
K. “. L.
Best rock/alternative pub in 50 mile radius!
Always friendly and welcoming. Decent Rock and metal on the jukebox and a pool table. Not forgetting the sociable back smoking yard/garden.
D. C.
A good pub with a grungy, rocky vibe. Good seating, including an outside area, a bookable private room (I was there for a comedy night), and regular events including rock karaoke.
Good, cheap beer - £3.50 for a pint of Hophead when I visited - and very friendly and helpful staff. A gem!
B. H.
Hope it opens again for nice tunes and beers
(I can't respond in line - good stuff - I mean the "Release the Bats" and all that ... when will that be on (if it isn't already?))
S. H.
Dark and dingy. All the best pubs are! This place pulls off tacky in a very awesome way. The drinks are incredibly priced, given the location. It's an alternative bar playing alternative music only. Definitely go here if you're an awkward human.
N. M.
Step free access but again not great for accessible toilets... got my powerchair stuck quite a few times in that bathroom.
However the drinks are great, the staff are nice AND IT LOOKS AWESOME. But... yellow book is better...
As event hiring goes there is a room upstairs for cabaret and all sorts.
G. L.
Great pub with well looked after beers. It has the character of one of Brighton's old school pubs with a bunch of regulars that keep it up to date. Free jukebox, free pool a few days a week, and the food is incredibly well priced and top quality. Well worth a few visits.
T. L.
Great pub. Pity about the fraggle bar staff.
M. C.
The atmosphere was good. Obviously there are a good few locals/regulars. The jukebox was stacked full of great music. The only thing that let it down was the beer. It was the worst pint I've had in a long time! Going by other reviews, it would appear that I was unlucky and maybe came in on an off day. I'll visit again and hopefully the 3* will become 5 as I really liked everything else about the place!
L. C.
The only decent rock and metal bar left in Brighton it also holds the crown for the best jukebox in town by a country mile. Their roast dinners are surprisingly good and the function room upstairs more often than not has some sort of comedy going on, either for free or minimal ticket cost. Weird yet friendly locals, hilarious and interesting bar staff and a constantly free pool table make this a Brighton gem.
R. H.
The bar staff was lovely and friendly. She hoped I would come back. Nice friendly customers too. The bar staff said this place is for everyone not just people who are into heavy metal music. No such thing as stereotypes. Love to see her again, makes me want to come back. ☺
J. M.
Excellent beer, great music
e. m.
Only proper metal/hard rock/punk pub of its kind in the city. A bit of a sanctuary from the pretentious bars you tend to find in Brighton.
Decent wine list and cocktails on the side as well, if beer isn’t your tipple - no complaints with the draught. Great smoking area as well. 5 stars
M. J.
Easy going rock/metal pub, good tunes and beers
S.
My favourite drinking hole in Brighton, great music, friendly bar staff and a really nice alternative atmosphere. I travel up Brighton way from Devon to see my girlfriend and I always insist we visit Caroline of Brunswick at least once every time I'm here!
D. B.
I would like to put a 10 star but Google doesn't allow me.
Perfect rock and metal pub in Brighton. Very lovely staff and wonderful atmosphere. This is my favourite place in Brighton for a nice and relaxing night out.
Rock and Metal Jukebox !! This is a must!
E. B.
Absolutely brilliant place the staff is so friendly and helpful the atmosphere is great the customers are really nice honestly it's just fantastic
T. G.
Brighton's one remaining rock pub! Untouched by commercialisation and mass-market blanding/gentrifying the 'caz' maintains its unique atmosphere with low lighting, themed artwork and drinks slightly cheaper than the area average. Often full of quirky individuals representing many different subcultures and refreshingly non-standard range of music this is a great place for those wishing for the more authentic rock experience.
K.
Good ole fashion rock bar. Had rock and metal karaoke on when I last went which was a blast. Had alcohol free cider also which is awsome. They only accept cash when we were there so had to go and get some out.
M.
Simply amazing. Great music, great staff, free pool table..
K. P.
Great comedy show and pub, until the ceiling collapsed
r.
One of the best pubs in Brighton especially for us Rock fans.. Great music, great food, consistent beer, great staff.. What more can you ask for.. Highly recommended
A. J.
Cracking pub with superb bar staff.
W. M.
If you like your pubs full of good cheap beer and live to be surrounded by metalheads, goths and the unusual, beautiful exotic folk then you'll love it.
Be prepared to stick to any surface you lean on. Awsome juke box and absolutley massive dog behind the bar!
s.
Great alternative/rock bar, I try to visit everytime I'm in Brighton, just the best jukebox!! Friendly welcoming staff. 👍👍
T. M.
Good old classical metal pub where everything's a bit wonky and your feet are eternally stuck to the floor :-) Comes with a pool table and pub garden. Very rough round the edges, but a particularly good spot for when the Fringe festival comes around!
C. W.
Lovely atmosphere. Adore Cerberus over the bar. Went for Titter - the monthly comedy revue, upstairs, which gets 5 stars too
A. R.
Great comedy night but drinks service was slow.
k. h.
Great drag show
Small and personal venue
A. D.
Big names & fresh faces are regular acts in this rock-slash-metal themed hybrid of a pub and entertainment venue. Don't miss the comedy nights, they are seriously good (a lot of people preview their Edinburgh material here apparently).
C. C.
I've only visited this pub once, for the Komedy Krackers comedy night. It's a rock-themed place that has lots of live performances and reminded me its vibe of Shrewsbury's Yorkshire House, one of my favourites. We had beefburgers from the menu that were surprisingly good and the beer was definitely well kept with an interesting range.
The comedy was great fun. There were more performers than punters in the room and it was mainly very new performers with a few more seasoned comics in the second half trying out new stuff. Go with an open mind and low expectations and you could be pleasantly surprised. Expect Richard Pryor or Victoria Wood and you will be disappointed. The evening is hosted by the remarkable Sara Mason who must be a Brighton Institution in her own right.
I don't make it to Sussex very often but when I do I think I'll be back to the Caroline of Brunswick and, if the timing is right, to Komedy Krackers.
A. “. J.
Love the culture in this pub, I have been to spoken word nights to rock nights to comedy... this is a pub with lots of character and good if you like to be near the level, train station and near lots of tasty food places that Brighton has to offer.
J. P.
If you're into rock/metal it's a great venue. Great selection on the junk box, nice atmosphere and friendly bar staff
F. M.
Great pub. Very atmospheric from the giant, slobbering werewolf over the bar to the black decoration. This is a proper pub, not a drab chain pub. Also has a room upstairs which is used for skeptics in the pub
j. c.
Is usually describe this place as a gothic dive, but actually the service was good, the beer was good and the covid nonsense was good, so well done Caroline.
J. P.
Been coming here years after the Hobgoblin changed hands. Very Rock orientated pub with a jukebox to match. Shows upstairs from DJ nights to comedy all the time.
Friendly place to go with plenty to choose from behind the bar.
R. S.
Not the place to go if you're worried about covid!
L.
Nice pub, great decor, decent priced beer and friendly staff. Great music too!
B. P.
One of the only places in Brighton with a pool table. Friendly staff at any time of the week, delightful trip
N. “. T. O. C.
Good small - medium size venue for alternative people. Quiet daytime but good for a raucous weekend meet up. No kids allowed
S. D.
Lovely place, nice little theatre space.
M. L.
Great place for live music, they support new young bands & have awesome reputation for metal :)
A. R.
Atmospheric pub with garden room and upstairs venue. Drinks very reasonably priced and a friendly landlady.
D. A.
Amazing and couldn't ask for a better venue
N. I.
Ordered the vegan roast and the gravy was too watery. I asked for more but it was still watery. Nice staff though.
r. p.

Saw gabby last night and really enjoyed it, plus this pub is the quirkiest and funkiest place I've been to in a long time!!!
A. M. J.
Very cool place. Alternative. Great decoration and music. The comedy shows are very nice. Kind staff
T. S.
One of Brighton's last rock and metal pubs, lots of interesting events upstairs and a quality pub quiz, just avoid the burgers.
H. H.
Quality energy, nice lighting all that. Played a nice game of pool with the boys with no problems, other than me losing.
Z. S.
Nice rock/punk pub with a pool table and jukebox. Also has comedy and other shows on in the evenings.
M. S.
Fantastic alternative music pub, great bar staff. Friendly atmosphere
A. A.
Great metalhead pub, unique atmosphere, a real tonic against sterile, soulless chain bars.
V. A.
One of my favourite pubs. Metal heads and cheap booze. Good staff too
L. M.
Amazing place. So friendly more like a family than a pub
T. M.
Basically the last great music pub in Brighton. My favourite place to go to whenever I'm back in town.

Funky diverse and youthful crowd, nice selection of ales and comedy venue upstairs - enjoyed it.
L. P.
Free jukebox on Tuesdays. Good place to meet like minded alternative people
M. B.
One of the few pubs left in Brighton with any originality and character. Also, one of the few pubs in Brighton I wouldn't want to take my parents to
M. S.
Great comedy gig and they do Erdinger Alcohol free !
R. L.
Great Duke box, they also sell booze and crisps which is a bonus.
B. N.
They have Lamb of God, Tool, and the best Bloody Marys I’ve had, 5/5 would go every day
M. B.
Small venue, looks a bit of a dive but good beer, reasonably priced.
