Reviews of Caxton Arms
K. M.
Today we celebrated the day of the Hungarian language with a Hungarian menu. Pubs are not my thing but went anyway and had a great experience ! The food was lovely and great service ! Compliments to the chef. 👍🏻
T. F.
Amazing staff and excellent drink selection. They run a happy hour Mon-Thur 5pm-7pm with some good deals. They also have a really nice smoking area out the back with comfortable cushions and proper heaters. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Brighton
R. M.
A great hidden bar / pub, from the friendly locals to the lovely staff this was a great find. The hidden back garden was delightful and gave us a giggle as it felt like a secret.
R. J.
Lovely pub with a great outdoor area. They also have a function room, lots of drink options, delicious food including the Sunday roast! Spent many birthday evenings /days here. Service is excellent and the owners very friendly! A hidden gem!
R. S.
Fantastic pub. Somehow we ended up wandering past the Caxton - what a great pub. Good beer, amazing food, funny bar staff. Cheesy beef quesadillas - winner!
C. B.
Great friendly pub with a nice outdoor area. Good range of beers on tap. Food and snacks available. Ideal spot to stop off before or after getting the train to a Brighton match.
M. G.
Great pub with a good selection of drinks. Outside area at the back with patio heaters. Busy but not packed on the Saturday night that we visited. There were free tables inside and outside for a group of 6 when we arrived.
l. s.
Caxton Arms has been a pub that I've bern visiting for many years, not often but always had many happy times. Staff are always friendly, food is amazing.. Games to play.. Outside garden, great photos to look at.. Really comfortable atmosphere..
A. R.
Lively crowd. Quirky, old-style pub with a modern flourish. Outside area. Very friendly and rapid staff. Draught beers something different. Variety is always good - certainly in this case!
K. K.
Perfect place for sunday lunch. Slightly hidden gem with great service and amazing food. Go hungry as they dont skimp on the portions. Great fun as lego on the table and tons of board games to keep you occupied. We spent a good almost 3 hours here eating, drinking and playing plenty of games
A. Y.
We enjoyed the pub! The beer was good and the interior is awesome. They have a lot of games and Lego :)
T. P.
Went for all day brunch for a hen do. Great food great service. Would go back because of this and because they have lots of games you can play
T. A.
The Caxton is a great pub. Interesting layout, cool board games and Lego, plus great beers and lots of Tucaca!
A. W.
Great little pub tucked down a side street of the main thoroughfare. Nice beer and friendly bar staff. The food looked fantastic although we did not eat there.
A. M.
Just stopped in for a beer whist our train was delayed! Really lovely staff and great choice of boardgames
E. D.
Came here for a late Sunday roast. We both wanted the pork however there was only one left so ended up getting both a pork and a chicken which came with alot of veg and lovely gravy. (They had also run out of beef.) We were told there wasn't any gravy left once our food had come so we couldnt get any extra. It was not table service which was fine however we were not told this on arrival so sat waiting for a bit.
The food was very nice, the meat was tender and cooked well. The selection of veg was very good and all tasted excellent. My only critique would be the potatoes were not crispy enough. They were nice but perhaps could've been even better with some more oil and time in the old oven.
Anyway thank you cax; cheers.
C. B.
This pub is a really solid backstreet boozer. Just one street back from the main drag out the station to the seaside you'll find a great welcome, a nice little beer garden, well served beer and really decent food. Hidden gem!
C. P.
A wonderful post-lockdown night out! This has always been one of my favourite pubs in Brighton and it's fantastic that they are open and serving customers again. Excellent COVID measures with advance bookings plus track and trace upon arrival, plus signs to manage people around the building and into the courtyard. But most importantly, a delicious menu of food and lots of lovely things to drink. Welcome back!
A. P.
Nice pub very friendly staff and a good atmosphere!
G. G.
Awesome little place. Enjoyed the great food by the lit fireplace.
E. M.
Nice pub, friendly staff and nicely decorated outside seating. Only one cider on tap. Clean bathroom
J. W.
This roast here really is a hidden gem in Brighton. Food is amazing. Great value. Definitely worth a visit.
P. C.
I went here for an event at the Brighton festival. I will certainly go back if I'm in that part of Brighton again. Lovely traditional pub. Shepherd Neame beers, which has to be good.
P. V.
Super friendly staff and clientele both and delicious food. Cosy atmosphere. First time here, not last for sure!
O. J.
This is a nice pub tucked away near Brighton station. I have visited many times. Very friendly staff and good food. The prices are good as well. There are lots of board games and books. There is a yard downstairs out the back and a little seated area under a canopy just above. I'm not sure if there is a TV in the right hand side of the bar. There is a function room downstairs. I think it doesn't open until late afternoon Monday to Thursday but Friday it opens regular time and at the weekend. Great little pub and good atmosphere as well
A. R.
Managed to get in before second lockdown! It really is tucked away, a lovely secret pub off the main drag of Queens Road. Food was very tasty and felt comfortably distanced from other tables. All made for a great evening, thank you!
T. S.
Fabulous pub, and omg amazing Sunday roast!
A. O.
Really excellent roast and amazing pub! Big portions that come with a sharing portion of lovely cauliflower cheese which is a real bonus. Amazing roasties and best yorkshire puddings I've had. Will definitely be going again
M. B.
Went to a private event in the Secret Room. Well appointed pub, good selection of beers. Did not eat, but the food looked, and smelled very good. Seems like a good locals pub as opposed to a Brighton tourist trap venue, so has to be recommended. Staff were cheerful and helpful as well!
N. P.
A top top top place. Whether you're a geezer with a builders bum or a fella in a frock this is the place for you
It's tucked away yet worth the 2 min walk off the main road. The drinks are well priced, it's clean without being poncey, fabulous food. If there's a better pub in Brighton I haven't been there. I cannot recommend this place highly enough
M. O.
Lovely food, great games and happy hour!!!!!
l. m.
A well-known run pub great food wonderful helpful staff and a great beer garden
a. w.
Gorgeous Sunday lunch at this hidden gem. Friendly staff. Advise booking.
W. H.
Fabulous Sunday lunch. What a fabulous pub. It has just about everything you could ever need. Good beer, fabulous food, piles of board games and a great garden. We'll worth a visit. Make sure you book if you're going for Sunday lunch, as it's hugely popular and incredibly good!
D. L.
Amazing Sunday roast! Absolutely delicious. Surprising and delightful combination of textures and flavours, totally wonderful!!
J. C.
One of the best vegan roasts I've ever had. I'm usually not a fan of nut roast but this was moist and delicious. The staff were incredible friendly and attentive. We sat outside which was a sweet little space.
T. C.
Nice cosy pub, friendly service
g. m.
Really great pub, nice outside area with an awesome atmosphere, good range of beers and food
A. L.

Q. R.
My sister and I visited Brighton over bank holiday and our cab driver recommended this pub on the way BACK home as it was his local for a few years.... I’m only gutted that I didn’t find this place earlier! a big special thank you to Jack (our resident DJ and generally made us feel welcome, nice guy) and Daisy, (a compassionate soul who will one day make the world a better place for sure) Thanks for making our last night in Brighton special. I definitely recommend this place (btw I went when it was very quiet but I can tell its a live atmosphere when busy; good music, drinks, location and staff. keep it up Caxton) 😊
C. A.
Super friendly pub who'll always try and find space, they serve the best tofu burger ever! And it's dog friendly! The beers are a little limited, but a good range of drinks in general.
J. D.
Great staff, lovely beer selection. They had a new menu which I wasn't expecting, but the bhaji burger was an absolute winner
M. H.
Charming pub with excellent bar staff. The barman George was an absolute delight, full of personality and charm. Would thoroughly recommend going as an easy-going hang out after work or even on a date.
B. B.
Nice little pub, off the beaten track, pretty quiet during the day, has a nice selection of beers. Staff are friendly. only negative was that I didn't like their choice of background music, seemed somber. But that just my opinion I'm sure some people would love it .
R. J.
Hired the downstairs of this lovely pub for my 21st. It was great, lovely staff and great atmosphere along with a huge garden area. Would defo recommend it for hiring out for an event but also a lovely pub to have a drink and great for sunny days for the garden. 10/10
J. B.
The beer selection is alright - not the most diverse but there are a few good one to choose from but the food! Omg they must have an excellent chef because every meal I've had here has been totally superb. Well done.
S. M.
Great pub. Fantastic service, brilliant atmosphere and a proper Brighton pub.
J. v. d. W.
Went for a Mother’s Day roast. First time I’ve had one there but came recommended. I can see why because it was the best roast I’ve had in Brighton and Hove and possibly ever. I had the pork belly which was deliciously soft and tasty. Not sure I’ve seen that much veg with a roast, but all of it was exceptional - you name it, it was there.
Go, but go hungry, cos you’ll need to be!!
E.
Absolutely amazing roast. Both the Beef and veggie options were superb and are well worth the trip. They also have plenty of board games to play while you relax in the beer garden.
A. T.
I can’t praise this place highly enough. Staff and clientele are lovely and friendly, great selection of drinks (ales, gins, wines, even a couple of signature cocktails!)
Now the important bit...the Sunday roasts are quite simply the best I’ve had and that is quite a statement given the level of competition in Brighton
Well worth a visit!
H. I.
A decent, fun little hideaway. Great selection of drinks and the staff are really nice.
J. H.
Proper pub in the centre of Brighton but tucked away in a back street
S. S.
Warm and welcoming pub catering for all. Brilliant owners and great staff.
Good selection of draft and bottled drinks.
The best Sunday roast I've had in ages.
K. B.
The best Brighton pub with the best staff and most amazing land lord!!
S. G.
Amazing place filled with lovely staff who replaced my half pint with a full one after I accidentally knocked it over whilst laughing at a book. Roast Duck was perfectly cooked, great portions for the price and the atmosphere just generally welcoming and brilliant. Cannot recommend highly enough from a guy just wandering around Brighton on his Todd on a Saturday afternoon. Burgers on Deliveroo are insane too.
A.
Wasn't going to get a roast as I normally feel underwhelmed by pub roasts. Two of my friends ordered the pork belly and then I ordered one as soon as theirs were brought to the table. It was delicious! The pork was cooked brilliantly as were the veg.
L. O.
Always a great atmosphere and friendly environment
T. L.
Popped in here after Christmas shopping for a quick drink and ended up staying a few hours and got some friends to come and meet us there. Lovely cosy pub, the staff were nice and friendly. Will definitely nip in again after the next shopping trip.
R. D.
Great comedy show downstairs! Would recommend and the bar staff were lovely.
D. P.
Went there today for a roast which was really tasty! As a group we had vegan, veggie and meat varieties and everyone enjoyed. Friendly staff and a nice cosy atmosphere.
B. D.
Best Pub in Brighton!! Great service, fantastic food and a proper traditional pub, would definitely recommend.
S. E.
Amazing staff, great food.
K. A.
Went for Sunday lunch with my daughter and grandaughter.Opted for the roast beef and it did not disappoint! Beautifully cooked and presented, generous portions, one of the best roasts I've had in a while.
E. B.
Favourite pub in Brighton, great food, well priced & good range of booze & great staff. Can't recommend highly enough.
C. E.
Cozy pub, nice staff!
M. W.
Such a friendly, accomodating pub. Nothing is too much of a problem. Staff and management are welcoming, and the food is fantastic! A hidden gem in Brighton
S. W. (.
Great little pub with a lot of character! All the staff are really friendly, amazing food and an overall cheery atmosphere!! Would definitely recommend
N. C.
Great little pub which serves FAB Sunday roasts. If they have the slowed cook beef thick ribs on the specials then i can't recommend it highly enough - and I'm not even a fan of roast dinners normally!!
D. W.
Went with my girlfriend with a reservation for us and a pre-order. The pub get billards and other games and books. There was a strong family vibe when we visited but it seemed to be well behaved locals. We found inflatables and kids toys in the rear garden bring used by adults and kids alike. I got a chicken supreme which lived up to its namesake. My partner got the halloumi and mushroom Wellington, which was really well prepared and served. Bar staff were friendly and attentive. Will be visiting again
V. R.
Cosy, friendly pub with great staff and a fantastic array of Brighton memorabilia. Boasting the only bar billiards table in town (as far as I know). Bradley the Pub Dog deserves a special mention!
L. B.
Went here for a friends birthday party - downstairs very good for a function if a little small. Would only recommend if hosting for less than 30 people. Staff attentive.
T. W.
Lovely pub, off the main drag. Decent beer & good food. An idea way to round off a trip into town.
d. f.
Great place to meet friends in central brighton but hidden away very nicely
P. S.
They say it's the third best roast dinner in Brighton - I can't imagine what the others do better!
J. M.
Surprising gem hidden away. Many cosy areas to meet with friends. Friendly staff, and a great reputation for food. A reservation for Sunday roast is recommended. Cheers!
E. s.
Staff were really friendly, there is a warm and covered smoking area with 2 floors, and I had one of the best vegetarian burgers I have ever had their so the chefs are clearly passionate about their food over there. Will definitely be stopping by again!
A. S.
Amazing bloody Mary's and the roasts are just fantastic
D. A.
It was very good and they did Lamb, my favourite...it was yummy...although the veg was a little too al dente...still managed to eat it all though...I can recommend. Friendly staff and good atmosphere
T. H.
Had a lovely meal (english muffins, poached eggs, hollandaise and asparagus) and Helen was a lovely landlady. Good selection of beers as well as lots of games if you're in a group - will be returning!
A. S.
Its hard to not find pubs in this area that arent super loud and too crowded - this is it! Its just been renovated and looks amazing. The food is great and drinks prices and selection i spot on!

R. C.
Great pre match venue
C.
I was surprised, a quiet little boozer off the main drag it actually nice in there. The food was well worth the price, drink selection varied and competitively priced and a big hidden outside area.
J. M.
Not far from Brighton station but an oasis of calm compared to the push and shove of the station boozers. Worth walking a bit further to check out the ales and the range of games on offer, including bar billiards.
T. H.
Great pint with friends! Outside but still undercover, tucked away out the back!
D. T.
Nice back street pub. Cosy atmosphere. They have a massive amount of board /pub games (no exaggeration) if that's your thing! Also a bar billiards table.
J. P.
Went here for a burger last week and surprisingly it was one of the best burgers I have had in a long time! Maybe even better than troll burger! Great staff and would definitely eat here again.
