K.The best pub in (slightly out of) Town! Friendly staff, always good music. Excellent decor and vibe. Feels like a real community pub. Lots of good events on weekends and regular events during the week, quiz etc. A real pub in a world of bars!
F. C.Honestly one of the best pubs in Brighton. You'll make a new friend every time you go. There's a sea shanty session on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month and amazing bar staff who are friendly and just generally awesome.
B. P.A truly beautiful building clad in original tiles, with a similarly unspoilt interior, yet with a curious Brighton-hipster charm of its own. Interesting selection of beers and great regular live music.

U. A.A good old fashioned cosy boozer - good beer, good atmosphere, unpretentious surroundings, and live music. Piano players and singers welcome. Good Irish music night on a Wednesday. Lovely friendly staff who know how to make customers feel welcome. A little gem of a pub.

K. F.Glory be! A proper pub. Endearingly 'shabby' but with that indefinable cosy atmosphere which first-rate pubs tend to have - a 'nooks and crannys' feel if you like. Combine this with exceptionally friendly and welcoming bar staff who are mature enough to realise that background music should be exactly that, and not a function of their own tastes played at ear-splitting volume. This means that, unlike many other pubs in the area, this is not a combination of kindergarten and heavy-metal concert. If wish to have a pint and a conversation without needing to shout or lip-read, this is the place to be. Regarding the price of drinks, Brighton has a reputation for being 'Bohemian' which usually translates as 'expensive' but the prices here are very, very reasonable, you can buy a round without checking with your bank manager first.
Whoever manages this place should not change a thing. Unreservedly recommended.

j. p.Formerly rather a spit and sawdust kind of place, the Jolly Brewer, in recent years has become more of a hipster hideout. That's good because other nearby hostelries are either populist or packed with students.
S. G.Coming back from slightly sorry times, the current owners have made this into a friendly local pub with live music and quizzes. There's still some renovations to go but for a cheerful local it's a good bet.
