Reviews of The Basketmakers Arms
A. M.
Great Fullers pub with 7 real ales on tap. Warm, comfortable and good food menu.
P. D.
Fantastic ales, friendly staff and a slightly quirky but characterful charm. Food orientated but I prefer to drink in pubs so can't comment. Who would eat oysters in a Brighton pub anyway? Hardly known for them. 🤷
B. S.
One of the best pubs in Brighton. Always busy at weekends but you can usually squeeze in somewhere. Great food and good selection of drinks. Cosy pub! Dog friendly. They even serve picklebacks, yum! If you go here be sure to open some of the little tins on the walls and leave a message of your own.
C. C.
Hadn't been to The Basketmakers in years and was great to go back. Had delicious lamb shank roast and cauli cheese! I was full halfway through but soldiered on because of how good it was. I'm not a massive fan of crunchy veg but that just preference and was still great. Staff was super sweet and friendly too, can't wait to come back!
G. s.
Great Pub. Good Fullers beer. Great food. well worth a visit if you like traditional English pubs
O. H.
Wonderful roast today, the staff were attentive and looked after us throughout. Great wine with the meal.
I recommend ordering too much as the sides were really tasty and well seasoned and perfectly portioned.
The pub has that lovely atmosphere you look for with a town centre great Sunday roast! Book in advance to guarantee a table.
L. G.
I have been coming to the Basketmakers for a number of years now, and I have to say it doesn't matter if it's during the week or at the weekend it always delivers day or night.
Food first class complemented with a superb selection of beer that is very well kept.
Friendly staff and locals, all a local should be!
If you haven't had the pleasure of this really good pub don't delay, it's a little gem.
Come in and breath in the atmosphere you won't be disappointed.
A. B.
Tasty food, plenty of real ale and a fabulous, relaxed atmosphere. Well worth a visit.
P. G.
Went there for Sunday roast. Chicken supreme was very juicy, beef sirloin & potatoes were a bit dry and the beans a bit undercooked. Staff was very nice.
J. N.
Love this pub. My favourite in Brighton. Great beer, lovely food and friendly staff. Couldn't ask for more.
P. R.
Great pub, fine selection of beers and tasty food!
W. W.
Excellent! Staff genuinely kind, professional and welcoming. Would recommend this pub for its high level of hospitality and warm atmosphere. Good real ale for my husband and delicious food. Interesting surroundings and one of the best highlights of our short holiday in lovely Brighton. Xxxxxx
M. B.
Good food and drinks, cozy ambiance. The fish portion of the fish and chips seems about half normal size, but otherwise everything you'd expect. Fantastic tartar sauce, also.
H. H.
I may have arrived after last call and sat there pintless for 10 mins (I was with people, I want to mention, just arrived late) Unreal little pub tho, definatley making another appearance. Nice homely, welcoming atmosphere
J. J.
Old school boozer giving you the best of a slightly chaotic traditional English pub. Right in the heart of North Laine showcasing the best of Brighton. Staff are friendly. Didn't try the food.
a. b.
Fabulous food in a quirky little pub . A real hidden treasure and a treat to visit , great staff, lovely pint and a great back bar. Marvelous choice of music played at just the right volume. Always a favourite to visit and take friends
B. W.
Great pub. Great beers. Great food. Always... look in the boxes on the wall. I may have left you a message.
D. B.
Great pub , everything you would want , food , atmosphere & all the drinks ..... had an excellent veggie roast , we will go back next time in Brighton.
M. H.
Been using this place since the late 70s, still one of the best pubs in town
L. D.
The best roast we have EVER HAD! We always come here for a drink in Brighton but had a roast for the first time recently and it didn't disappoint. Welsh rarebit cauliflower cheese was something else 👌🏼 Staff were lovely and adhered to all covid rules and regs . We will be back soon
N. W.
It may have changed owners a while back, but wisely they've kept it as it was. Always a friendly relaxed atmosphere and a decent pint 😀👍
J. C.
Fish nice
Batter over done
Chips looked and tasted wood chippy ;)
£13.95
London Pride good but on the turn
£4.60
Noisy and Very Popular with 38+ years old Brightonites

Very cosey pub hidden round the back streets of Brighton
T. D.
I love it in here. Small ‘n quaint with shiny, lovely, friendly staff offering much to drink on tap. Ales, lagers, beers, bottles, pop, spirits and tea, if you ask nicely. Plenty of food choice, and it’s all delicious too. Check out the sandwiches! 😛
If you can’t get a seat straight away, a short friendly wait at the bar will entertain you until one comes free. It’s packed with charm, aesthetic character and lovely people enjoying the friendly atmosphere, and there’s plenty of tins on the walls to look at.
A small but intimate and friendly place, and the food is amazing too.
You’ll really like it here. I recommend to travellers and everyone who fancies a drink.
Everyone.
P. D.
Staff is charming. Food is tasty and also there are different veg and gluten free options. You can seat inside and outside. I recommend.
C. S.
Loads of character, hearty food and properly great British pub vibes. Been out of the country for last few months and places like this make me miss home! It's real pub's pub, pop in for few jars and a pie.
a. c.
Same great feel as 30 years ago when I used to come here. Staff are helpful, effecient and serve drinks at the table, if the bar isn't too busy. The food is good wholesome quality fayre !!!
J. G.
Good back street boozer. Reasonable beers friendly staff.Limited but good menu
P. h.
Great beer, great food! The real North Laine experience at this friendly pub.
D. D.
Amazing place. Great staff, fantastic seafood and burger and sandwiches, four of us are there and had a beer and it wasn't too expensive / we had a great meal.
N. W.
Gorgeous little pub full of knick-knacks and odd little treasures; it's one of those homely pubs where you can truly lose track of time. They had a decent selection of cask and keg ales and the food menu is consists of a lot of fresh fish which is great for me, I always think pubs should serve fish more as it's the perfect fast food and obviously being so close to the sea, makes perfect sense. I had the special which was grilled mackerel with a spicy pineapple salsa, a great combination but for some reason they pared that with yoghurt? dairy and citrus? on the same plate? It was my only minor gripe though from an otherwise excellent pub and one definitely ranks among the best Brighton has to offer. Oh, and the music selection was inspired too, mid noughties indie bangers. What a treat.
L. M.
Always a fave, the walls are lined with vintage cigarette tins that the visitors have filled with secret notes. The Sunday Roasts are top notch and very generously portioned, we had a side of the cauliflower beer cheese and that was superb!
J. S.
Cosy, friendly and quite honestly a lovely little pub with a great atmosphere.
A. A.
Tucked away just outside North Laines area you'll find this gem. Aside from the nice selection of beers on tap and spirits you'll find them best fish and chips in Brighton. I would even go as far as to say they serve the best fish and chips I've ever had, and oh my the onion rings...SOOO GOOD! Best I've ever had of those too. The wings had great flavor and the blue cheese sauce was amazing but I like boneless wings a big more. For anyone looking for pub favourite eats and a good pint The Basketmakers is a must!
J. G.
When ever we visit Brighton we like to find new pubs and we found this little pub. Very nice.
D. S.
Always love the real ales and cosy feel, and the bbq chicken wings were amazing!
C.
Me and my friends had a great time here, the staff were excellent, fast and hospitable and the bartender Henry made our experience one to remember with outstanding manners and doing everything in his power to make our night extra special.
Will definitely be coming back!
L.
Friendly staff, lovely selection of beer and ale, and an absolutely amazing pork burger, in a quintessentially British pub, 5 stars! 😁
C. T.
Lovely pub, great food, and the staff always have amazing customer service! Absolutely recommend!
S. G. I.
Great sandwiches for lunch.
Even better staff. The lad working today was brilliant.
Thanks
R. e.
One of the best pubs in Brighton, great selection of real ales and good food.
P. H.
A VERY NICE ATMOSPHERE IN THIS PUB AND THEY SERVE A VARIETY OF DRAFT BEERS I WOULD HAVE LIKED A PINT OF AMSTEL BUT COULDN'T AS I WAS PICKING UP A GROUP TO GO PAINTBALLING
G.
It's classic and it's how pubs used to be before most were stripped of character. We love this pub! Situated in Cheltenham Place off North Road near to Old Steine it could easily be missed but its well worth visiting. The old tins on the wall are quirky and hold super hidden notes! Excellent service in a great atmosphere. Drinks & food choice are excellent and the quality very very good!
U. V.
Nice olde worlde pub. The barmaid was friendly too. She tried her best to find the Cask Marque certificate for me, to no avail. The beer was really good though.
N. L.
Whilst staying in Brighton, called in after seeing previous excellent reviews.
Cask beer choice excellent especially dark Star beers! Picture of meals attached as food choice slightly different and two meals we had were very enjoyable.
Find and enjoy!!! and I must add very covid aware!!
S. M.
Lovely traditional British pub with good pale ale in Brighton! Enjoyed talking to the locals at the pub which made us smile and laugh!
A. G.
Great food and beers. Excellent service, friendly staff.
C. C.
Cosy pub, lovely food and drink, friendly staff
D. L.
The classic Brighton pub with a great range of beers.
S. c.
Excellent pub.friendly staff and spotlessly clean.well worth a visit
A. G.
Great pub, that remains as good as ever. Great food.
L. K.
Always busy and crowded with great atmosphere. Good selection of beers and tasty food. Highly recommended.
R. T.
Good beer selection but stank of fish 🤮
S. B.
Ssshhh...completely off the tourist map...a local pub for local people...consistently good pub.
A. M.
Great, old Brighton pub. Good food menu too.
J. G.
Incredible choice if beers/lagers including a good range of "% alcohol" & "types" .... a nice change for a visitor from 'out if the city'! There's also an excellent menu of superb quality food, not especially cheap but definitely good value. Bar staff friendly and providing good service add to the place as does the "original British pub" atmosphere. All in all a great pub that I'd be very pleased if it was my 'local'.
D. D.
Perfect pub. Lovely space inside and pavement benches and tables outside. Proper pub decor, which is just the right tone, height and light to be super~comfortable. Friendly, efficient staff and drop dead gorgeous food, not at ridiculous prices. This wonderful place has survived gentrification, hopefully it always will, because it's perfect as it was and still is. Great selection of everything.
B. B.
Great pub and a delicious Sunday lunch
T. F.
The quintessential Brighton pub. I've always had a good time here going back decades. The atmosphere is good, with all sorts of paraphernalia on the walls. The beer has improved now, with guest cask and keg beers alongside the standard Fuller's brews.
The food is also really good. Not sure if they still do the fish platter with whitebait chips still but that was great.
J. D.
Lovely place to be. Cool boxes to store notes
S. S.
Proper old school pub like the used to make them. If we ever have anybody visit from out of the country we bring them here. They look after their ale and the food is always superb. The fish in the fish and chips was cooked as well as at any high end restaurant. Perfectly flaky and moist. Recommended.
B. R.
Excellent staff and the menu ( really good food) was still available later on a Sunday evening. Also 6 Ales (Cask) which is more than can be said for many pubs at the moment who struggle to sell one .
P. B.
Never had a bad time or pint here. A jewel of a place.
j. c.
Very popular Brighton haunt. Good beer always available. Friendly staff
m. B.
So friendly! Dog welcomed. Stunning food!
D. L. C.
Proper pub, chocka block full of vintage and retro paraphernalia. A great selection of real ales / craft beers, and enough other options for the wine and spirit drinkers. Patrons are a mixed crowd of old boy locals, hipsters, students showing off the pub to their parents and plenty of tourists. The food is super; generous portions suitable for all eaters. Vegans and seafood lovers shouldn't be disappointed. It is busy, busy, busy here, so be prepared to wait for a seat. Worth it though!
C. C.
Used to be my local when it was a bikers pub. Still a great traditional pub with a good selection of ales.
M. B.
Genuine traditional pub. Family owned and run and it shows!. Good range of Fuller's and guest ales. Varied and great quality menu. Highly recommended. I always call in when in Brighton, unfortunately this means about only 4 times a year.
m. d.
Always my tucked away pre-concert pub or early evening drinks. They still have the original Sierra Nevada ale. Only place in Brighton...great typical Brighton pub. Recommended.
G. R.
Great beer and a very popular pub. It can often seem a bit busy but people are very happy to share a table. Lots of drinks choices if you are not a beer drinker and there is a wide selection of food. The outside tables are on a quiet side street and get great sun. The staff are always friendly and helpful.
J. L.
Rub shoulders with media dad types and make new friends from out of town. Friendly capable bar staff. Great unusual beers but expect a suitable price tag for that. Best Sunday roast in Brighton. Tables turn over quickly so loiter at the bar and keep em peeled to get a seat at any time.
P. H.
Great as usual and continues to be our last minute go to place for a good meal and drink. My wife particularly likes the draft cider and the selection of draft beers always offers enough variety for most tastes. Ask for a small sample if unsure as the bar staff are happy to oblige.
T. M.
A great place if you like real ales. Very popular so it can be hard to get somewhere to sit at times but definitely worth standing anyway. A good antidote to the many chain places and women are that all seem the same. Far more down to earth and quirky. Definitely worth a visit. You can sit outside too , it has tables on the pavement. It's a quiet side road so traffic isn't a bother.
R. M.
Quirky and charming, a very popular spot with a great beer selection. Very cosy in winter and plenty of outdoor seating for the summer.
D. G.
It's a pub that sells alcohol and food. Located just off the level and London Road in the North Lines (not The Lanes) it was clean the service quick and polite and the beer well kept, the right temperature with a perfect sized head that didn't offend the wallet. Definitely use it again for a quick stop off or as a place to meet friends. Probably try the food next time.
T. H.
Very good choice of ales- and delicious choice of food. Good vegan alternatives for my partner, she loved it. No musak, no games machines just a proper pub with friendly service and great atmosphere.
J. M.
This pub is nothing special. Not the normal opening line of a positive review, I know. However, this iconic Brighton pub does all the basics right. Bundles of genuine cosy character, wide range of drinks, locally sourced, albeit basic, food, friendly staff, tables cleared and cleaned regularly. I could go on but so many pubs fall down on one or more of these things or just cannot conjure up the ambience that makes that foamy pint or clear G&T go down in feel good surroundings.
J. B.
Top pub. Great beers, both lager and ales, fine food with a reputation for good fish, but all the favourites too, as well as a great roast reputation - in fact a perfect kind of air with a Sunday book pub. Packed on a Friday, but always with good and varied people. While there check the tins on the walls for messages, and leave a few of your own.
C. L.
Had the toasted mozzarella tomato and pesto sandwich. Oh my gosh it was the best I've ever had.
Love this pub fantastic staff,
Great atmosphere
People from all walks of life.
Come here every week
S. B.
Top pub, hasn't changed much since the 70s and still offers the true pub experience without compromise. I delight in checking it's still there everytime I visit Brighton and tell as many people as I can about it! True hidden gem.
M. H.
Best Fuller's pub in Brighton. This is a well lived-in, friendly community pub. Good choice of Fuller's and Gale's ales as well as beers from the Dark Star Brewery. They also serve excellent meals and snacks throughout the day.
A. C.
This awesome little pub is great for whisky (and whiskey). Food is good and plenty of ales and cider to drink too. It does get a little crowded at peak times so get there early if you want a seat and be prepared to squeeze in. Check the tins on the walls for random little notes.
S. 4.
Absolutely delicious food! Wonderful use of fresh herbs! Worth every penny!
J. B.
Had a great experience here. The barperson was outstanding, incredibly friendly and easily able to recommend their products. A warm and cosy environment with good selection of both ales and lagers. Would recommend a call in to here if ever you're visiting Brighton.
R. C.
To the foreigner, this is as classic as an English pub can get. Located on a somewhat quiet street, it’s hard to miss with its large gold lettering. I came in on Sunday after skipping breakfast with goals to have a hearty and delicious Sunday roast.
Achievement unlocked.
Roast chicken with all the fixings and it was delightful. Fresh carrots, roasted potatoes, cauliflower cheese, a generous portion of chicken, topped (literally) with a piping hot Yorkshire pudding.
Thank god I only ordered a half pint. Couldn’t even finish the food. Beer was good too so I’ll have to return for a pint or two. Recommend!
B. M.
Very nice traditional pub with a large selection of hand pulled ales. Good quality traditional food and a pretty decent price. Will definitely be back when in the area.
S. T.
Excellent locals pub in the back streets of Brighton. The rugby club have been meeting here for years and it continues to please us. Excellent ales and delicious food. Their ESB is superb and is served by incredibly friendly staff.
A must visit if in Brighton.
B. N.
The food is quite nice, and the local Brighton community liven things up with secret messages hidden in the walls, but that can't change the fact that this is a Fuller's chain, with a very tame selection of beer on tap. Go here if the craft beer revolution has passed you by and you are stuck with the idea that beer needs to be pulled to be good.
R. B.
Great food and a " proper pub".
g. c.
Recommend booking if you want to eat as the food is wonderful with menus regularly changing with the seasons. Good selection of beers and ciders. Place very cosy. Ladies toilets need a bit of TLC and you have to be aware this is a residential area.
c. d.
This is my favorite pub in Brighton. It's always great to escape London and drink in the ocean air. It's also great to drink whiskey and they have an amazing selection at very reasonable prices. Sit up at the bar, order your favorite pint and then start thinking about what to sip on. I went Bunnahabhain 12 year this visit.
Cheers!
K. G.
In my experience one of the best pubs in Brighton for what it does. Great atmosphere, food, beer and friendly service. Great stuff. ESB and HSB on cask lines? Heaven.
D. E. C.
Lovely pub, very dog friendly which is even better. Great pint of esb
B. G.
I love this pub. Great beers and friendly staff. Plus the food ain't too bad. The best part is the tobacco tins and all their secret messages. So much fun reading random notes and leaving surprises for strangers
P. B.
Great food (not your usual pub grub) and real ales.
M. S.
Nice little pub :) only popped in for a pint, and seemed quite friendly place - but too busy and small to enjoy dinner there, so we ended up going elsewhere - but good for a drink or two
P. S.
Always busy and understandably so. If you can get a table, or even just a seat, is a relaxed place with great beer and very good good in a characterful setting. If not it can be a bit tiring standing and as it gets overcrowded you are constantly trying to avoid being in someone's way. A victim of its own well deserved success in that respect.
T. S.
Love this place. Quirky, comfy and ideal for a quick drink or an all day session. Great selection of beers, and the food is always amazing. One of my favourite pubs.
F. H.
never fails me. Have been going to this pub for years and years always eaten there, taken friends for lunch there, meet friends for evening drinks.... always a great atmosphere, great staff and great food. It is tucked away from the North Laine shops but is always busy. Love Love Love
B. T.
Used to be great. The food was chronically overpriced at £10 for a burger that was overcooked and a thimbleful of chips that came as a £3 extra. The only decent beers were on cask and warmer than body temperature.. shame really.
B. M.
An excellent traditional pub with a real buzz and a great atmosphere. Great selection of Fullers and Gales beers, huge range of single malts and excellent food. The downside is that it's nearly always jam packed. But there's a reason all those people head there.
S. G.
The best pub in Brighton, because it's a REAL pub. Great ale, great food, friendly service (as the staff are long term) and genuinely quirky. The walls are covered with old posters advertising cigars and tobacco boxes which people have put notes in over the years, but unlike in a chain pub where they have been bought and stuck on the wall to make it look old, they are genuinely old.
P. S.
Nice pub, with simple, basic feel to it in keeping wth most pubs in Brighton these days. Clean and looked after.
I arrived at just after midday and it was empty, but half an hour later every table was taken as it's obviously a popular place for lunch.
The food was very nice, with a tradition menu (ham and chips, fish and chips etc), with a decent sized portion. Sandwiches were also on the menu, but I didn't see anyone who had them so I've no idea what they are like.
Staff were friendly and attentive.
It's not the largest pub, and the tables are squeezed in a bit, with a second door strangely on the side which meant when a huffing and tsking large man came in looking rushed, we all had to either get up or get jostled on purpose by him, as he obviously thought he was very important and didn't have time to use the nice front door 5 seconds away and we were in his way.
They should lock that door to avoid disturbing everyone in that corner in the future IMO. Spoilt my visit a bit given his attitude, so find a table away from that second door if you can.
K. Þ.
Frequently rated Brighton's best pub and with good reason. Charming, cosy and warm. The food is good, the beers are decent and it's in a great location tucked away at the bottom of North Laine.
N. P.
I love this pub. Frequented it many years ago as a regular and I was delighted to see it is still as good as ever. Bar staff brilliant and great selection of beers
s. v.
Happy to help in these interesting times... some seating outside with a bohemian atmosphere within spilling out. Beer awesome and fresh too xx
j. p.
Busy local in the heart of the north Laines. Nice beer and good food. Gets very crowded but room to stand outside. Interesting interior and not too mucked about with. Popular with creative industry types and university people.
P. F.
Possibly both the best beer and the best food in Brighton!
A selection of real ales, ciders and lagers that leave most pubs behind. They also stock a good range of wines and a top shelf to die for!
If you are a whiskey lover, this and the Waggon & Horses are the pubs for you in the area.
J. B.
Great little pub. Cosy and friendly.
Z. S.
Great local tucked away just off North Laine. Friendly, great selection of beers and lagers, friendly local feel, changed little since my first visits as a student back in early 1980s.
B. C.
Have been going to the Basket Makers since I was a kid. Friendly environment and can get very busy at peak times. Food has declined over the years, but I cannot fault the cheesy chips - they're fab. Standard priced beer.
S. S.
Lovely old Fuller's pub, normally has Pride, ESB Seafarer's and HSB on the pumps and a decent range of single malts.. check out and contribute to the notes in the tins mounted on the walls.
C. R.
Really nice, proper pub. Very decent food and excellent beer. Sincerely hope that the change in management does not result in a change in approach. I'm sure it won't.
J. D.
Used to be a lovely pub with outstanding food. Now they never have mussels or steaks which were our food of choice here and everything else we tried here was below average. Still serving tasty pints though.
K. W.
Great pub... and now Henry can buy me a pint for nice review (seriously... he's a top bloke).... great group of people in front and behind the bar... great food too
S. B.
Great little pub. Can get pretty busy around peak times but good selection of drinks. Check the numerous tins mounted to the walls for messages and leave your own!
J. R.
Great food, lovely staff, always feel welcome with an eclectic clientele, family and dog friendly. Yummy mulled wine, fab roast pork with lots of crackling and six veg. Superb!
S.
Always good at Basketmakers.
Good selection of beers.
great staff.. always pleasant.
R.
Nice pub, enjoyed my pint of English IPA. 👍
F. B.
Truly one of the best little traditional pubs in Britain. Serving great guest cask beers amongst a regular supply of classics, inspirational food to die for, no loud music, just great chat with a mix of characters you read about in a Kasasian who-dunnit novel. A real jewel amongst the paste on Brighton xxxxxx
L. T.
Favourite pub in Brighton! Great location and friendly atmosphere. Prices are reasonable too. Will try the food at some point as it looks delicious.
P. M.
Great locals pub. Excellent range of 8 real ales - Fullers and guest, together with 10 gins and over 40 whiskies. Packed even at 5pm on a Friday.
S. H.
Still my go to pub when visiting Brighton, ESB on draught which adds to the attraction. Food is still good but perhaps not what it was a year or so ago. You need to get there early to get a table or be patient and nice people both sides of the bar - a good mix of clientele.
K. K.
Great place for Christmasy drinks and a super yummy meal. Had the lamb with mash. Loves it. This pub always has a great vibe and the staff are great
T. E.
A Brighton classic, fantastic selection of beer and other booze. Really decent honest food too. Very traditional and a proper locals place. Keep it up!
B. L.
Took our friends who were visiting from Greece. We'd taken them to great places in London, Portsmouth and Southampton, they loved it. Then we took them to the Basketmakers Arms in Brighton. They experienced what I thought represented the VERY best of British in terms of food, ales and great friendly service, it was rediciioisly good! They were throughly stoked and said it was the best food experience they'd had in the UK since they'd arrived a week ago. I don't generally write reviews, but seeing them so happy and talking about how good it was lead me to writing this. Hats off to the team there, they should be an inspiration to many others.
P. W.
Outstanding food and atmosphere. Good selection of alcohol and meals. The food took about 35 minutes to arrive at peak lunch lunchtime rush. Slightly pricey, but for the quality of food and sheer size of the portions well worth it.
P. E.
Very good all round well worth a visit
L. K. (.
Nice food, good drink & excellent atmosphere. Would recommend. Not suitable for the heavy drinking or party crowd but excellent for more elderly drinkers. Perfect place to come to with your parents.
S. J. S.
My 1st, and 20 years on, still my favourite pub in Brighton. Good beer, good food, friendly staff and welcome to all - your mum, your best friend and the akward ones too ☺.
N. B.
Possibly the best pub in town. Great beer selection and you can entertain yourself with the messages left in the tins on the walls.
A. D.
Very nice and quaint traditional English pub in the heart of Brighton. Excellent and reasonably priced food. The staff is lovely and very pleasant.
J. w.
Terrific old style pub! Loved it!
B. B.
A lovely place and great staff, but the food was a little disappointing, rather rubbery squid and slightly undercooked chicken wings.

Still the best pub in Brighton in all the 30 years I've lived here. Great proper beers, decent good value food and always a great atmosphere 🍺
D. D. L.
It is crowded in weekends, but the food (we ordered fish and chips/crab/sea food) is well cooked and tasty. Come earlier if you want to find a table. Recommended.

It's a Brighton institution. I always feel happy being here. Don't forget to check the tins nailed to the wall - you never know what you might find - you may even discover a genie. Be careful what you wish for!

That was a very noisy night at the basketmakers... I know that's not the pub's problem - it happens! Otherwise that's a nice pub, a bit sticky everywhere, probably the tables aren't cleaned too often but that's quite original I guess!
S. J.
