Reviews of The Cricketers

Annie’s real name is Annalise and she is an absolute star! Shes made us feel so welcome in her amazing nostalgic pub. Best pub in Brighton. The cricketers. Gins away!
S. L.
I visited with a friend while on a weekend to Brighton. Loved the cosy feeling inside the pub and we were lucky to find a table by the fire, free, as it was a chilly night. We just had drinks but food was available. There is plenty of outdoor seating too. The location is great for a stop while sightseeing and shopping in the Lanes.
F. E.
Going into this building brings back memories of going into a proper pub. It's not that spacious though it is warm, welcoming and cosy. Lovely team of people behind the bar, happy to help and have a laugh whilst doing so!
c.
Great bar staff. Great bar. Don't remember the rest.
D. J.
Food and staff first class will visit again on my next trip
E. H.
This is one of our favourite pubs in Brighton. Proper pub if you know what I mean. Had food the first time and it was really tasty. Had a portion of their tater tots and they were delicious, we also had their charcuterie board which again was yummy. We normally drink a pint of Fosters and a Brighton Gin and a Mediterranean tonic. This normally costs just under £12.
Yummers.
P. B.
Celebrated a 60th birthday party in the upstairs function room. Great space with separate areas; had a lovely time.
P. H.
Nice locals pub, good range beers and spirits, friendly cute staff. Dont sit bye the Ladies as drains smell wafts out!
A. A.
A beautiful pub inside and out. Pleasant friendly staff, a decent pint and we enjoyed the food too. I can't really fault the place.
G. C.
Visited here for a Sunday lunch, we were told when ordering that food would take an hour as they were so busy, we didn't wait that long at all and the roast lamb was amazing. Staff were rushed off their feet but service was great and the pub was clean. Will definitely visit again.
P. L.
I'm gutted in Brighton watching Man Utd v the Mighty Reds in an hour nipped out the Font 4 a Sunday roast to here ( recommended by a doorman ; he should stick to guarding doors )
A lovely pint of Local bitter & although the lunch is visually stunning I had to masticate the roast beef & then give it to the dogs 🤔😪. Gutted staff lovely as is ale @ a good price.
C. M.
Cracking pub, cant fault this place, a little gem.
T. K.
Amazing Sunday Roast and very helpfull and friendly staff
K.
Although we only stopped for a few pints, the overall ambiance of the pub was good. The food being served looked nice and it was busy outside because of the warm weather but plenty of room inside.
A. H.
A really quaint Victorian style pub. Lovely courtyard outside. Cosy atmosphere. Serves food but we didn't have time to try any, the meals we saw being served looked nice though.
D. H.
The Cricketers is a very old pub in the south Lanes. It is a safe bet for the whole family, with seating in the bar, in an old undercover coach entrance or outside in the hustle and bustle of the Lanes with a view of the sea. The 3 draught beers are well kept (I had a nice Darkstar). The food is really good and my macaroni cheese was a thing of beauty. We took the grandkids (9 & 14), they ate well (fish and chips) and enjoyed the their Brighton pub experience. To be honest this isn't the first time we've been there, as I say, a safe bet.
A. G.
A lovely pub in the heart of Brighton and close to harbour.. you can see the sea shore from right outside the place. Very lively inside and outside the pub, tempting food to order, chicken burger was very good and nicely served with a pickle on top. A vintage and classic look. I would go again here.
C. V.
Top3 pub ever been in, really quirky, lovely food, staff great, and had great night with live band, defo go to pub wen visit Brighton again
R. G.
Gorgeous Sunday roast, quite possibly the best I've ever had out. Friendly and attentive staff, good atmosphere and more than reasonable value for money.
a. c. m.

FANTASTIC!
Great and super friendly service, delicious roast and the best mulled wine ever! We don't live in Brighton but this place will be our new place to go every time we visit. Thanks guys!
M. W.
The Cricketers has always been my first port of call when visiting Brighton. Red velvet seats, great atmosphere, great service. Great pub!
R. P.
Lovely place with friendly staff. Old small pub full of character, good beers on offer, can sit outside and people watch
R. K.
It is the oldest pub in Brighton. I had roast lamb, it was great delicious dinner. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Cosy atmosphere.
V. M.
Proper old school pub..friendly staff ..
N. B.
Lovely pub in the Lanes of Brighton. Very old and quaint. Food was excellent. Burgers were very nice. Good for a family meal. Beer good too.
V. B.
Good food and service and homely place
D. H.
The Cricketers was both I and my father's local since the 1960's, in fact we loved it so much we renamed our Royal mail road coach the Albany Flyer, and we used it to travel from our house at No 1 Albany Villas Hove, to the Cricketers every weekend, and give free trips home to their Hove customers
P. D.
Lovely and historic place to have a beer and chat. Food was very good.
P. N.
Interesting place. It had all the showings of an old traditional pub, but felt like it was lacking something and I don't know what
P. A.
Definitely full of ghosts. Proper old school pub atmosphere with lots of seperate seating spaces and a solid food offering
A. D.
Came in on Saturday with 8 friends for my birthday, staff very accommodating and great bar service
D. B.
One of the nicest traditional pubs in Brighton very attentive staff , good food and drink options, well run establishment.
C. H.
Chicken burger tasted good but oozes grease. The chips are actually incredible though, the crispiest chips I've ever had - basically roast potatoes. Dirty beef burger would benefit from a different type of cheese, cheddar's too overpowering. Would go back but to try something else.
J. L.
Cosy pub in the centre of town.anx had a good night with work colleagues
N.
Me and my mates always go here. Amazing pub with such a unique interior and feel. Staff great and always a fun laugh.
R. W.
Good pub with a few beers to choose from. Nicely decorated inside and outside seating available too.
Y. W.
Recently had a birthday party at The Crix, and the staff were so helpful and accomodating. They went out of their way to make sure we were looked after, as well as tending to the rest of the bar. And the food was lovely.
a. l.
Amazing service and service! Staff were really attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere of the pub was lovely! 10/10 food too!
D. D.
Roast diners being served 7 days a week for £11.00.
Very good quality too for that price.
I shall definitely be going again.
S. M.
Wonderful pub, with great staff. Brilliant live music, and Chris the doorman was kind and caring.
N. P.
Old pub from 16th century. It is nice to sit outside since is an a very nice corner, but chairs are not comfortable to stay longer.
A.
Very nice but a bit too many battered items in the Chicken burger...my fault should have read it properly but the fish and chips was perfect. Great service and good location with the Rugby on too!
D. M.
Went for a quick drink with friends, was quite busy but served pretty quickly and with a smiley bar staff.
d. s.
Excellent roast dinners.Staff friendly and quick service.Clean and tidy
w. f.
Really nice pub, old school vybz proper place

K. g.

It really is worth it.....
J. D.
Lovely quiet pub and yummy food! Would definitely visit again.
B. E.
Good pub, good entertainment on Friday. Spent 6hrs with great friends in here on a rainy Saturday.
K. G.
The name of the pub lured me the place , the ambience is very good as well as the service. The place becomes lively where there is a match happening. And there is a out door seating as well. The place is easily visible from the street and they have first floor during peak times
P. S. M. T.
Been drinking here since 1986..great pub and great food too.
G. A.
Great pub, very lively and friendly bar staff
L. j. M.
Great service and great food highly recommended, I will definitely be back I have had some burgers in my eating lifetime, but this is up there.
D. E.

Nice old pub, friendly staff
M. R. G.
Nice mulled cider, a lovely old pub with a warm fire and a nice snug.
L. J.
The only pub we have gone into since Covid (before as well) we’re your met pleasantly, always happy to find a table, and the minute you sit down your drink is ordered & poured!! Once your glass is empty along the staff come…. Absolutely fantastic… wish more places trained staff like this? I work in the travel industry and places like this are rare 👏👏 well done all!!!
D. M.
Very friendly pub with brilliant service right in the hussle and bussle of Brighton. Would definitely recommend.
P.
Awesome food great atmosphere
S. S.
Loved it. Highly recommended. Very attentive and friendly staff.
P. M.
A unique pub... A must visit
j. B.
It was great, lovely atmosphere and fab service.
N. G.
Good inside and outside drinking spots. The food is great. Surprisingly it usually has seats. Awesome location.
D. T.
Lovely atmosphere and amazing Sunday Roast. I went for pork belly which had an amazing crackling and my friend for beef which was also good. Loved the potatoes and vegetables. Highly recommended!
S. S.
Lovely old pub with nice staff
A. G.
Great pub. Late night live music. Heart of the City. Ales. Food.
S. T.
Good food, nice staff
G. H.
Nice pub ambiance with good food.
C. H.
Great food, although service a bit slow.
S. D.
One of the oldest, if not the oldest pub in Brighton. Expensive when compared to others.
(£8.95 for a double G&T). Has some outdoor seating.
J. E.
The food here and service is class!!! The dirty chicken burger is brilliant! 🤤
C. L.
Cute little pub in the laines. Funky alice in womderland style decor serving late night food and a casual drink. Great spot to meet with friends
J. D.
Good bar , good beer and great staff
L. L.
Great live music, lovely old pub
D. A.
Enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and the drinks. Service was very good being both polite and efficient.
We went for lunch and the food was great, I had a simple Ham, Mature Cheese & Piccalilli baguette but it was of a very good quality whilst most of the family had pulled beef or pork top heavy tater tots which are deep fried small pcs of potatoes loaded with a topping and cheese served in a bowl.
Certainly going again as we always do when in Brighton.
M. H.
Oldest pub in Brighton, fantastic! what more can i say?
I. L.
Lovely friendly staff nice pub
V. J.
Lovely pub this we were there couple weeks back when weather was glorious sitting outside wouldn't want to sit inside as was quite dark
B. W.
Lovely interior to this old pub, my favourite drinking establishment in Brighton. The food isn't too shabby either.
S. W.
Great looking pub with excellent service.
J. H. (.
Had an amazing brunch here...the full on cooked english breakfast is amazing (well worth the £14). Will eat here again for sure!!
b. r.
What a delightful little pub! Classic traditional old building- the lovely girls behind the bar informed me it was built in 1547- very knowledgeable. Cosy fireplace and nice atmosphere with lots of vegetarian options. The staff even brought me a dog bowl for my dachshund- very thoughtful... Can't say enough how much me and my husband and pup enjoyed our visit, will definitely be returning here!!
A. S.
Lovely pub for a pint
M. M.
Great pub, lively and nice vibe
A. P.
Great pub and lovely food , Sunday roast was amazing and fish and chips too.
Staff very friendly
Y. K.
I was very impressed, a very good selection of beers and we had the Brighton roast company lunch. It was all nicely cooked and well presented and not to forget the vegetarian option was equally good. Fairly priced and the place is full of character. Highly recommended, its nice to have a good honest roast when so many pubs are moving away from this great traditional food.
T. H.
Nice place for lunch with variations on sandwiches including a no bread option.
j. u.
Nice place, could do with a good scrub and a lick of paint, but nice atmosphere, and lovely very helpful, smiley chatty bar front of house she was great.
M. R.
Great atmosphere Great staff and excellent food
J. S.
Great vibe friendly staff can't wait for revisit 👍
J. C.
Great pub with a lovely atmosphere. Table service was very quick. I'd also like to give a particular thanks to Beth the barmaid for being so friendly and making sure we were all enjoying ourselves. Would definitely recommend stopping off here for a drink if you're in the lanes.
M. C.
Very busy staff didn't stop well done
E. D.
Old skool pub, lot of red velvet and brass!
D. B.
Party atmosphere. Paid £16 for a pint and glass of wine though.
L. K.
Very good Sunday roast. Attractive location in the Lanes. Worth recommending for a laid back lunch.
P. W.
Nice building, bit dark inside. Arrived two minutes after midday last Sunday but was told we had to wait as the till was 10 minutes off. Staff were polite enough but the range of beers was uninspired, all the usual suspects. Could be better.
C. V.
Excellent pub with beautiful Victorian period interior; the main bar is encircled by plush red velvet seating. Interesting literary history as English novelist Graham Greene's favourite pub. The beer is well kept and the publican and staff are friendly and decent. The outside area fronting the building is a pleasant location to drink and pass the time of day, and the regulars appear friendly and easygoing.
K. B.
We loved this pub , so friendly and cosy. Just how a proper pub should be. It was Halloween weekend so all the staff had dressed up.They all looked amazing along with the decoration of the pub. We popped in both afternoons for a drink after a lot of walking. Then again on the Friday night, it's certainly a popular place. With a mixed clientele, which is lovely. We will definitely go again on our next visit.
G. B.
Fantastic decor and locaion. Friendly service.
C. D.
Good pub right next door to another good pub! The drinks are reasonably priced. There's plenty of seats and standing room so good for large groups. I've heard good things about the food but haven't tried it yet myself. I believe there's also a function room for hire. Popular for all walks of life!
D. S.
I had an overpriced roast dinner, staff were lovely
J. W.
Lovely friendly staff, amazing old building with great history
Love it
C. S.
Brighton's oldest oldest pub. Great food and the gentleman who was serving us couldn't do enough so props to him. Good selection of ales and a nice atmosphere in the centre of Brighton. Highly recommend
J. F.
Love this place ❤
Make a stop off here every time we visit Brighton
J. F.
Vegetarian halloumi cheese and falafel burger on the patio with beer and classic British pub vibes.
C. H.
Really friendly staff, made us feel safe and comfortable, good social distancing but still a warm welcome
K. N.
Friday afternoon in the sun, food OK limited menu at the moment. Only one cask ale, no Harveys so only 4 stars.
Top tip...Book a table!
J. K.
East atmosphere and great food.
Looks like just one of them old pubs, but that s quite different place. With live music on Tuesday and Friday nights, very easy atmosphere, but not very easy to find a space to sit in the evenings, so better to book a table before. Food is just amazing. For just a £5 you might have absolutely delicious soup that will be better than in some fancy expensive restaurants.
S. A. L.
2nd best pet store I know
M. F. L.
The best pub in Brighton for location, service and atmosphere. Good service. Friendly staff. Will be back for our seat in the sun
A. H.
Just had an amazing experience at the cricketers arms- the staff are wonderful and I was so appreciative for their care in the light of the current covid situation. Thank you for your lovely service and amazing hygiene standards!
E. T.
Probably the best Sunday roast I have tasted for many a year. 4 of us popped in there today and had the lamb roast, we all without exception thoroughly enjoyed great food. Simple, no fuss, friendly service but terrific food !
E. B.
This venue was a great mix of professional and fun !
We hosted our company works do at this pub and it has received brilliant feedback and a desire to return. We would like to thank the managers in particular, as well as their staff they made it a great and effortless night for us all.
Many Thanks,
h. c.
Had an excellent night in the bar. There was a fantastic band with an amazing lead singer. Had a really nice vibe with friendly and happy clientele. The only thing that let it down and the reason it didn't quite get 5 stars (which it truly deserves) was a very rude barman that shut the bar in my face after I had ordered a drink, then completely ignored me once I questioned him regarding this.
R. C.
Top notch establishment. A much when visiting Brighton.
m. d.
Always good spot social distancing bit of an overkill but not their fault! Beavertown beer welcome but Warning to UK brewers...watch your pricing! £6.20 too much not sustainable...
S. F.
Great pub! Atmosphere is great and live music regular apparently. Food was way better than the normal expected pub food. We went there on a Tuesday when it is two for one fish and chips. Maybe a little too pricey otherwise but probably worth it anyway.
F. H.
Went on Sunday at 12.45 for our lunch. The food was of great portion, very well cooked and presented. The only problem we found, was that there were two couples on our table. We ordered per couple at the same time yet mine and my husbands meal came 15 minutes after theirs. I also noticed the Yorkshire pudding was dry so I asked for extra gravy. But the Yorkshire pudding was completely dry...just a bit more gravy on the meal or to accompany the meal would make it a 10/10
L. S.
Just want to say a massive thank you to Ian and all the staff at the Cricketers Brighton, you all made mine and my Fiancee's night.
Our Engagement party could not have gone any better.
Great venue, great food, and most of all amazing staff.
Once again, Thank you all.
Mark and Lynsey.x

Great place with friendly staff..
S. D.
Friendly pub good staff
O. B.
It's okay, not great, but they serve good drinks and are open till late
S. B.
Popped in for a couple of drinks. Very interesting decor that makes for a unique vibe. Staff were very attentive, the wine I had was okay.
J. M.
Lovely pub with good beer
L. C.
Never mind the nice atmosphere and staff, this place gets the 5 stars on the strength of it's food alone. I've tried most of the menu over the past year and not had a single bite that wasn't great, this is truly pub food that other establishments should aspire too. Good location, nestled in the middle of the Lanes with some decent outside seating and rustic feel this place is a must visit for almost everyone.
P. T.
Live music, friendly staff, great selection of ales. Well worth a look
J. C.
Good sevice and nice food
P. R.
I ordered a tuna salad thinking it would be from a Can with some Caper mayo slathered on, this gorgeous seeded baguette arrived. Tuna steaks inside with dollops of tasty mayo on top.my nate had the chicken burger an chips he enjoyed it.
I would really recommend this place the staff are lovely and chatty. And the place has an old style pub atmosphere and great music that's audible enough to talk over but still enjoy.
A. B.
Oldest pin on Brighton. Always good service and busy.
d. c.
Popped in for a quick drink on way back to station to get train back to London. Cos it was Saint Patricks day we thought we'd have a Guinness but they had none left! seemed a nice enough old English pub.
O. H.
I must say the blonde woman with tattoos gave amazing service and was a delight to talk to, her clean venue and will definitely be coming back with my wife and family.
C. D.
Deceptively large pub with a stunning atmosphere, huge choice of places to sit, great beer choice and a decent range of spirits, always make a point of visiting here when down. Gets pretty lively but always has a good vibe. Highly recommended.
J. R.
First day in Brighton for a short break. Pint of Guinness and and The "Cricketers famous fish and chips" And it was, superb.
T. V.
Pretty awesome place, small but great. Live music on Tuesdays and it's always awesome. Ask the staff what beer to get and they have knowledge and an educated opinion about it and even hand out small samples to make sure that you get yourself a good drink. 6/5
K. M.
Only stopped for a quick drink and had great service. Thank you
L.
Staff all friendly, very strict on covid good to see
S. D.
Outstanding hummus for starter. Flavoursome, authentic burger. Fantastic caeser salad. Really great food all round. Quirky setting but relaxing atmosphere made for a great meal. Staff very attentive without being obtrusive. Fire alarm made for an interesting turn of events as I write this review.
A. V.
Cool little bar. A must see! The staff were a little preoccupied though...
R. L.
Great atmosphere and beers!
Y. J.
First time there. Fish and chips was nice. I would have preferred the potatoes to have been peeled and not skin left on but that's just my choice. Batter crispy, fish nice and white. Bit dark where we sat but I think had we sat round the corner it was brighter. There were photos on the ceiling and I wondered if they were there for people who had drunk too much and keeled over.. It gave them something to look at while they were laying on the floor.
A. R.
Lovely pub, stopped there to hide from the rain and had a drink and a bite to eat. Good selection of drinks, lovely food. Easy acces, friendly staff, great location and view.
P. F.
One of the best pubs in Brighton. It has a great range of Ales, Lagers and a Cider. A good wine list and the food is good.
It is always busy though.
Two minutes from the beach and in the heart of the Lanes it is wonderfully situated.
P. D.
Lovely vibe, all ages
N. N.
Incredible Sunday roast. Each item — meat, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, swede, broccoli, Yorkshire — was excellent!
Treated ourselves to a sausage roll to start... YUM! And a cauliflower cheese with the main.
D. M.
Really good place to be fair. Good drink and open area at the back. Saw food pass me that looked great but didn't taste it myself so you'll have to see other reviews to rate that information
A. Z.
Great place, with superb staff and delicious food!
J. A.
Fairly traditional pub with reasonable beer choices. They were willing to serve hot food even though we had arrived around 9pm and it was good quality pub grub albeit slightly small portions (maybe health-conscious Brightoners count calories)
D. M.
Very confused, was told I couldn’t have an ultimate burger but people who arrived after me were ordering and receiving them after my order?? Wasn’t very happy with my chips / meal however my mrs had one of the best meals she had eaten the lamb special was incredible shame the main menu option was nowhere near as good.
S. S.
Random wandering led us to the Cricketers. Very happy with our cheese plate. In fact, when I said we're gluten free and cannot eat the bread, they gave us more cheese!! Staff are great and very friendly.
T. C.
Great night in the Cricketers .... proper pub, great atmosphere. One slightly nutty barmaid 🙄🙄and one really lovely Aussie girl behind the bar who we had a nice conversation with. Will definitely go to if we visit Brighton again
R. B.
Nice pub, but it is pricey. A double for the price of two singles. Perhaps it's better if you're local. They have live music sometimes to.
S. T.
A great pub with a great atmosphere, good selection of beers.
J. M. D.
OK. Music wrong for quiet afternoon drink. Beer selection poor. Hardly any local representation. Caledonian and Yorkshire? What's that about when you've got Burning Sky and other great breweries nearby? Tap in mens toilet running full pelt. No one doing anything about it
r. d.
Brilliant pub with lots of character. Had London Pride on tap so stayed for quite a while! Friendly atmosphere in the Lanes district of Brighton.
P. F.
Lovely classic Victorian boozer, good selection of beers, fast and friendly service. Large group of us welcomed in after the over zealous teenage door staff at The Black Lion didn't want us to drink at their premises.
J. B. T.
Love the vibrant and friendly atmosphere in here.
P. L.
Stopped by for a drink on Sat night. Excellent atmosphere with a broad range of ages all having a good time. Nice friendly vibe and good music.
k. g.
Great service lovely beers
C. C.
A quintessential English Pub, unspoilt and unaltered over the years. Great, vibrant atmosphere and appealing to all ages. Good choice of real ales complimented by the latest concoctions.
P. M.
Great little pub. All red velvet and cozy inside. With a small outside area in a great spot. Staff were friendly and service was excellent. A great little place in the lanes
A. N.
Small pub located just off the sea front. Looks like Sherlock Holmes living room red crushed velvet flock wall paper classic Victorian vibe. Has a covered area next to the main bar that used to be the coach yard complete with cobblestone floor. Good pub food and friendly staff.
M. K.
dropped in for light lunch and chose a couple of baguettes, they were both very nice indeed! very good value for money, no scrimping on the filling here.
Both members of staff we spoke to were very friendly and polite and I would recommend this establishment highly.
A. B.
A lot of shops closed it's a bit tired
M. E.
Went in for lunch whilst visiting The Lanes. Lovely old pub'just what we like. Had a baguette which was lovely & a very generous size. Very tasty.
P. L.
Fantastic food service is great
B. D.
Sadly this great old pub has been spoilt. Although it retains much of its old charm, i.e. it has not been radically revamped like many of the other pubs owned by this group, I have been coming here for nearly 30 years but now it has loud music in the bar that prevents normal conversation and just ruins the night, as you are prey to the managers taste in music. Also getting pretty rowdy and drunkards getting in the way and not caring if they spill your pint! The upstairs Greene room is rarely open being used for private parties alot, so there is nowhere to hide from the music and rowdiness down stairs! (Speakers are up there now too i think). Was a meeting place for my crowd but i think we'll go to The Walrus now!
I. H.
Wife's favourite pub in Brighton
L. T.
Went to the cricketers for lunch and drinks with friends over the weekend. It was an amazing pub with delicious food and great atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back here on my next visit, highly recommend it too.
N. P.
Just had a fantastic steak baguette. Meat was deliciously tender. Hubby had ham and cheese baguette the slab of cheese and quality of the ham was to die for. Well worth a visit
E. A.
Bit pricey than the usual but really great, friendly staff. Good selection of gin and tonics, happy all round service.
C. W.
Popped in with my misses and a mate for lunch on a Saturday it was really busy but the staff were all smiling and happy to help, really good choice of drinks and the food the special changes regularly and tastes amazing.
A cracking all round pub with a great atmosphere well worth a visit
S. W. (.
A good honest boozer in the centre of Brighton. The best pub in The Lanes in my opinion. Decent beers, no pool table and only one TV.
E. L.
What a fantastic place to go. Each time we go in there we have a amazing time. And all staff are so friendly and welcoming. The food is Lush. Can't wait to come back. Thank you all for a wonderful weekend!
j. s.
food not good at all 😥chips were over cooked ceaser salad nothing special
T. T.
Lovely food - staff were extremely helpful even with our fussy eater - and we had free drinks included on our night. Lovely atmosphere, live music in the bar, really good value
k. c.
Great place for beer and food
J. B.
Excellent night in a fantasic pub
J. M.
Nice outside. Pretty rubbish selection of cider. To be clear, fizzy fruit juice is not cider.
M. K.
Pork roast was delicious! Nice during the day time but gets very lively/rowdy at night! Interiors have lots of character.
h. t.
We had some nice fish and chips. Because it was Wednesday, we paid half the price for 4 times fish and chips. Nice atmosphere, nice staff. Definitely recommendable.
J. G.
Just popped in for quick drink around lunchtime...quirky place...very welcoming bar staff...lots of people having lunch, and although not having any, the dishes looked very inviting..think it also doubles as an hotel .
Cosy wee public house and lounge area, would visit again.
B. T.
Beer and service great. Bacon baguette different. Bread rock hard and bacon should be thiner but same quantity - it may cook properly then.
J. H.
Impressive interior which I assume to be late Victorian. Some attractive dark wood partitions with etched glass, chamber pots hanging from the ceiling, Victorian signs advertising the various drinks on offer - brandies, whiskies etc (and also etched into the windows), and an interesting bench running alongside one wall with tiny drinks tables attached. Drinks seemed a bit expensive though, but I suppose if that helps maintain the decor it is probably forgivable.
A. M.
Came across this place seeking sanctuary from the rain. Lovely vibe, great staff. Could happily stayed there all day Sadly the rain stopped and shopping had to be done.
K. F.
Good service, price ok,
R. S.
Amazing place ..lovely staff..
A. B.
Pub steeped in history, modern music in a dated pub didn't seem right € £8.25 for strongbow and a red bull, will let you decide if that's expensive
G. C.
Beautiful pub in the centre of town with large screens showing sports. Staff were looked a little stressed so it lacked the warm welcome of most Brighton pubs.
E. D.
Good place for a drink
a. q.
Nice pub
L. D.
Lovely pub, good food
W. B.
Covid aware, friendly staff and great food.
C. H.
We had the 2 for 1 burgers on Tuesday. The wagu burger was delicious, more cheese & I would have rated it a lot higher. If you are payingv £1.50 to haved cheese on your burger you expect to be able to see it.
It was delicious though thank you!
M. W.
Busy on a Friday night but not so busy you can't move. A good selection of beers. An interesting building. A pleasant environment.

Poppy said she could star jumps... but refused... I don't believe she could actually do them?
Poppy did not know the capital city of Colombia...
Poppy was genuinely awesome and full of helpful tidbits, despite her lack of Bogatorial Star Jumps
Poppy did not know what a sesh gremlin was x

V. C.
Considering it was so busy and we were in main Brighton Town, on a hot sunny Sunday, Bank Holiday, we received good friendly service and enjoyed our food. Also reasonably priced...
E. K.
Great for mid week roast within a student budget! Lovely area to eat and nice and quiet (on a weekday evening).
A. s.
Cosy pub with a Victorian feel on the inside. The is the Greene function room on offer, to hire for party's. Food is very good for pub fair.
L. H.
My partner and I were down for the weekend visiting from Scotland and had a very pleasant experience in this pub, very clean and COVID safe, hand sanitiser provided on arrival and displayed in each room. Must say, the girl we had serving us, I believe her name was Millie, was so kind and made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived and was so helpful. Great pub and would love to come again.
T. G.
Lovely venue
Good food
N. H.
We happened by this pub while walking back to the train station after exploring Brighton on a day trip from London
The staff was helpful and friendly as were the local patrons
A decent selection of local brews & ciders with well prepared, non-pretentious pub & "comfort" food
Their ham hock was quite possibly the tastiest meal I've had during the 20ish days I've spent in the UK during my life and it is high on my list of favorite meals ever
I hope I have the opportunity to have it again someday!
