Reviews of The Earth & Stars
S. L.
The roast dinner was exceptional! By far the best pub roast dinner I've ever eaten. It was cooked to perfection. The lamb was epic! The staff were really friendly and attentive. Really great experience. I would recommend booking as all the tables had reservations.
I. R.
Nice/out of the ordinary beers, friendly staff and cosy location. They also offer an interesting choice of small plates. We tried the beetroot arancini and tasted really nice. Location is fab, just off the main road to the station - still convenient but avoiding he big crowds. Pleasantly surprised by the bill too, very reasonable prices! Would recommend :)
R. M.
Incredible food. Pub grub menu and a small plates menu on the flip side. Everything is great. Friendly staff, great location for people watching on busy weekends. Try and book downstairs.
J.
Good selection of beers, friendly staff who had a laugh with us on a recent trip to Brighton for the football. Nice rooftop terrace area.
j. a.
Super pub with great food and welcoming atmosphere.
I would highly recommended this venue the food menu is great the staff are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is great.
Not often toohisy and you can find a quiet table.
I had a steak and my girlfriend had a crab salad which we both shared. The steak was superb and cooked perfectly the salad was amazing tasted fresh and delicious.
We shared padron peppers to start.
I would recommend and return to this location anytime
R. J.
Fab food, lots of vegan stuff, really tasty made obviously with passion, care and flair. Definitely not the usual token gesture offerings here. We will be going back for sure.
A. M.
Amazing food and a few really nice beers. There is a small but very tasty selection of vegan and veg options which I would highly recommend. I will be back soon
B.
Excellent Sunday roast, good for vegetarians. My friend has numerous allergies and although in the end she couldn't eat the food, the staff made every effort to accommodate her.
M. C.
Looks like a pretty normal pub but the food was anything but normal pub grub. To be honest I'm not even sure what mains were on offer because we got half-way down the small plate menu and realised we wouldn't be going any further. Wonderful combination of flavours, textures, colours washed down with some good beers. Feels like a find and we'll be back to go through the other half of the small plates menu and it will be a while before the mains get a look-in! Nice work.
A. D.
Always enjoy my visit to this place, as they’ve always offered great vegan food. Really appreciated!
L. C.
Vibrant, fun. Vegan, except also had fish and chips. Good non alcohol lager on tap. Good ales.
E.
Sunday lunch is a special thing, and when it's delivered in nice surroundings by super friendly staff, not to mention delicious, it makes it all the better -they do vegan options as well - superb!
T. M.
Genuinely the best food in Brighton, catering to vegans and non vegans. Their Sunday roasts are incredible, just remember to book in advance for them as they are VERY popular, and for good reason!
S. M.
A small but nicely proportioned pub within 5 minutes walk from the station. Limited menu for food - locally sourced - we all had the burger at £15 a pop. It was nice if a little underdone and you could actually pick it up, which you aren't able to do with most burgers in pubs these days! Good service from the one bar tender but then it was a Wednesday and was very quiet. Great music, some classics belting out in the background. Beer prices are what you'd expect to pay in any pub that's not a Wetherspoons - around £5 a pint.
M. W.
An excellent all round pub that sells a great range of Vegan food, beers and ciders. The Vegan wine list is limited. The food was wonderful, freshly cooked and really tasty. Would definitely recommend a visit as one of the many Vegan options in Brighton.
L. M.
Went here for sisters birthday, very friendly staff, and fantastic food, good selection of drinks too
L. M.
Found this place after searching for gluten free food in Brighton for my husband who is coeliac. It's really close to everything, but a bit hidden away. Totally worth a visit though - the food was amazing, and the staff were really helpful.
The food:
We both had the fish and chips, which was really yummy, and took a chance on two smaller items - bread with a dip, and daal with pakora. Both were really good, totally surpassed our expectations. There was no gluten in the items (I didn't even have to option for "normal" bread) but other than the bread being noticeably different you wouldn't even have known anything was made differently. All the food was fantastic, and we would happily go back again.
The drink:
My husband was amazed to find they had gluten free beer on tap, a bitter and a lager, both from a local brewery. The pub has two local breweries on tap (Laine and Gun Brewery) both providing really nice "normal" beer as well as the GF ones - I had a milk stout, but there were IPAs and lagers, too. Gluten free beer on draught is a rarity, so my husband was ecstatic to find it here, and really good ones too!
I. K.
Great food, vegan and gf options. Amazing bloody Mary's and really friendly people working. Also dog friendly. Yeeeeessss
N. J.
Lovely place to get a pint. They had a nice vegan menu too but since I had already eaten lunch, did not get anything. Bartender is really friendly. Prices are decent.
G. S.
Lovely vegetarian roast. Friendly staff and nice ambience. The place was packed so I reccomend booking in advance.
A. C.
Such a good roast! Never thought I'd be able to have a pub roast and not worry about gluten. We even got a Yorkshire and cauliflower cheese.
Well labelled with gluten and vegan options. Only one option for the roast contained gluten so having a choice of vegetarian options was a real treat.
Would recommend 100% but you should book in advance
J. H.
Love this place - staff are so friendly, the atmosphere is always buzzing and they have gluten free beer always on tap! What else do you need!
R. S.
Brilliant food with a particularly amazing vegan roast!
A. B.
Nice pub with great food and very friendly staff. Had an awesome time visiting the earth & stars 👍
G. M.
Dog-friendly gluten-free beer and warm and welcoming will come again
A. D.
Great place for an early drink and a burger, the cheeseburger I had was very good though service was rather slow. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. Good selection of wines.
M. W.
Great location, nice selection of beers, food on offer. Post pandemic this could be a good winter haunt.
One person serving on a Saturday afternoon though? 🤔. It took an age to get a beer and we were surprised to find ourselves in the place for over an hour when we left. New normal? Kills the urge for spontaneous pints when in town.
T. C.
Does some of the best pub food I've had. Well worth a try!
A. D.
Really yummy food, great inclusive options (vegan, gluten free). Had the battered tofu which was lovely.
O. O.
Excellent food (Sunday roast) and service. The vegetables in the roast were colourful and tasted amazing. Lamb was very well cooked. The whole presentation was excellent. Very friendly and attentive staff.
c. k.
Not impressed with the price, the brewery could've supported local publicity.
A. V. M.
Cool place with lovely pubs snd eateries right in the heart of Brighton and a stone’s throw from the sea
C. D.
It's always difficult to know how to review a place when there were issues but they worked to resolve it but I guess tell it how it is. Very nice cosy vegan and dog friendly pub. Friendly staff. Good drinks selection. Great food, just let down on this occasion by a lengthy wait and then when it came it was not very hot. Three of us were happy to just eat but one complained, they dealt promptly with that, getting their food recooked and giving us a fair discount off the bill. I had tofish and chips, very nice texture and smokey flavours. I would definitely go again when in Brighton.
S. R.
Small but varied lunch menu. The haddock and chips was divine! Couple of pump ales, both good.
J. H.
A friendly pub with excellent service, good range of real ales, including gluten free beer. Food is excellent and caters for a wide range of dietary requirements. Plenty of space including an upstairs and outside seating area.
J. T.
One of the best pubs for vegan food in the centre of Brighton. Good vegan options and alcoholic drinks. The lunch menu was bare but all the dishes were amazing. Perfect for big groups of just meeting with friends.!!
P. S.
What a little gem! We found this by Googling gluten free places in Brighton, and we were not disappointed at all. We both had the cheeseburger, which was absolutely gorgeous, and a great selection of beers, ciders and wine.
The staff were so lovely and did all they could to make sure we had a great time. I would really recommend this place! 😁
J. r.
We booked a birthday Sunday roast for 13 people (including children) and were really well looked after.
The food was quite delicious and none of us had any complaints :)
The staff are lovely and kept the cake cold and provided plates and knife once we were ready to bring it out.
Would really recommend this place to anyone looking for a Sunday roast whether as a group or as a couple.
Just remember to pre-book to avoid disappointment as it can get busy!
J. H.
The place has changed hands since my last visit and the menu looked completely different. Let me tell you it has definitely changed for the better. We had the smokey aubergine dip, the tempura battered broccoli, Panko squash burgers (scotch bonnet jam was heaven) and then even squeezed in a chocolate orange dessert. All of it so well presented, so creative and full of flavour. The two staff on were super friendly and helpful. House wines were a delight. Couldn't recommend enough
E. N.
Had the most amazing roast after the marathon yesterday - they had specifically saved all the vegan options for the two of us eating vegan dinners and we all had amazing roasts! They were extremely helpful and friendly - would highly recommend this for veggies and meat eaters!! Happy customers all round
S. R.
Nice staff but a really disappointing roast dinner. I was asked it my meal was OK and I gave an honest answer. They were good enough to remove the cost of the dinner from our bill, without me asking them to do so, which was nice. The place was recommended to us, so not sure if they were having a bad day or that's the normal standard.
J. D.
Really good selection of beer and nice people working there
C. B.
Absolutely amazing roasts today. We had both vegan and meat, both were exceptional
A. H.
Dog and coeliac friendly pub (just up the hill from north Laine). A great find.
We drove for an hour and a half to visit our daughter at uni; we had the dog with us, as she misses her so much; also one of our family has coeliac disease so I had to do regimental panning beforehand.
This place ticked all my boxes. Great atmosphere, great food, good choice of drinks, they welcome dogs and they understand gluten free cross contamination issues for coeliac!
We were there for a late lunch. We had phoned earlier to book a table, got distracted by the shops, arrived late, but that was fine.
We will be making this our "go to" next time we visit.
L. W.
A wonderful little pub, tucked away off the main drag. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff and a vegan Wellington roast dinner to die for...Sunday perfection! Can't wait to go back!
N. M.
BEST VEGETARIAN ROAST! Hands down, I was trying to rate it, wanting to be a little more reserved with an 8.5 out of ten, but after I finished it, who was I kidding, it was pure perfection! 10/10 and I don’t say that lightly!
It had a lot of gravy (I usually ask for extra before they’ve even settled it down in front of me) but this was a generous plate, everything was glistening and gorgeous. Vegetarian wellington was great but the trimmings!!! Where the outstanding part, every element worked well together! I really don’t have words!! I hope I’m not bigging it up!! I’m sure I can’t be, it was just excellent! If your vegetarian you can roast happy all and every Sunday!!
T. A.
Lovely pub with a small-ish outdoor terrace, and good selection of beers. Staff were particularly friendly and helpful, and the food was more than a cut above 'pub grub'. Definitely recommend the fish and chips, and yellow curry, and the local Laines beers were also great
S. G.
Great staff and lovely roasts. Can remember menu being good years ago too. Excellent hosts for private dos that don't require a deposit most of the time and not a bad selection of draught beers.
C. C.
A superb Sunday roast. We were a group of vegan and meat eaters. The puddings were sublime. Cannot fault. Our dog was treated well too. The waiter brought him a bowl. Of water for under the table.
A. L.
We were so relieved that this busy pub on a raining Sat night had room to squeeze us in at the last minute (we didn't reserve). It has an extensive vegetarian and vegan menu (as well as the usual fish and chips). The portions are huge and I particularly enjoyed the vegetarian fish & chips - probably the best I've had from all the pubs I've been to to date and that's saying something. The vegan dish was a bit bland thus only four stars...
m. k.
Had a large booking, on their Christmas menu, the taste of the food, staff and atmosphere were perfect.
Only slight critism was the size of the mains portions, however both starters and dessert were spot on and didn't impact how much we enjoyed our time there.
D. H.
Absolutely delicious vegan lunch. We had the aubergine steaks and the vege tart (with all the usual Sunday vege and lovely roast potatoes), both of which were delicious. Also really enjoyed the vegan peanut cheesecake, and vegan cider. Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere
A. F.
Came here for Sunday lunch, which was delicious: pumpkin in filo, with delicious vegetables and some of the best roast potatoes I've had in a pub. Also great to see three vegan menu options. I was too full for dessert but the rhubarb and custard looked promising. Only thing letting it down was the wine - both vegan reds were disappointing. My meat-eating partner chose pork and said it had soggy crackling. Otherwise a great meal in lovely surroundings with helpful staff.
a. g.
Menu caters for everyone but the vegan food is superb
D. M.
Their menu is at least half vegetarian/vegan, they also have a fee vegan drinks too.
The size portions are quite good but a little bit lack of taste.
Service is very slow, be sure to make a reservation if you’re planning to order any food.
A. D.
When it's available, the jackfruit burger is a piece of beauty, and the taste is simply phenomenal -- though sides sometimes can be a bit underwhelming. The pub itself has a great atmosphere, and a lot of interesting guest brews are available at any time.
R. B.
Amazing service and atmosphere, what a pub!
M. B.
Great food and a lovely atmosphere.
K. S.
A cosy new-age themed pub serving real ales and cider, and excellent food with a good vegetarian selection and famous Sunday roasts. Usually quiet in the daytime and busy with the after-work crowd. Toilets are rather small and badly maintained but the staff are friendly and cheerful.
S. B.
Lovely friendly pub with great staff. Love the food there. Very vegan/veggien friendly. Good selection of beers and ciders. Best Sunday Roasts around, honestly book and pre order at the latest on Friday for Sunday.
K. 2.
Just in case the vegan battered tofu and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce weren't amazing enough (they were) we followed it with the most superb brownie and sticky toffee pudding. Great staff, great vibe.
M. M.
Sadly, I don't think this can be called an undiscovered secret in Brighton any more. A year ago you could always find a table to partake in one of the many beers available and eat some delicious food, but nowadays you're lucky if you can find somewhere to stand!
They have some of the best food I've had anywhere, and a better selection than you'd expect to find in a pub.
My only complaints about this place are that too many people know about it now, and that the food specials often seem to run out fairly early.
R. B.
Really lovely hidden gem! We came for lunch and they were great for gluten free, really accommodating and let me try wines before I bought it. I loved the music and the food was fabulous!
B. W.
Cool pub, great beer and i do also enjoy my cider. Went there with my girlfriend, had a great roast dinner on sunday. Very enjoyable, nice friendly staff as well. Recommend to anybody who wants a relaxed pub.
M. C.
great little hidden away pub with good staff and a chilled athmosphere. Nice selection of Cider and Ale.... Having only tasted the cider, I couldn't comment on the beer but would recommend a visit for anyone wanting to experience the Brighton hospitality or have a drink in a nice traditional environment.
C. S.
Great selection of vegan and vegetarian food. Delicious Gluten free beer options too! Cosy with great staff. Roasts are amazing but definitely need to book!
B. G.
Lovely pub, not too crowded during daytime. They serve very good vegan options as well as loads of various bees and wines
P. H.
Found this restaurant through Google Maps and saw how good the reviews were so we decided to try it out for lunch. The food was excellent and very tasty, good selection of beers and ales to choose from. The service was excellent and we felt welcome as soon as we walked in. Definitely worth visiting!
M. E.
Lovely food, lovely staff
H. M.
Have been coming here for years and food gets better every time. Some quality fish and chips. Plus I don't know what they put in the steak's peppercorn sauce but it really is to die for, for want of a better cliché!
J. L.
I like this cosmopolitan pub. I usually make an effort to pop in when I'm in Brighton with the family. Food is very good, with a nice selection of beers which aren't the usual commercial variety.
M. J.
Great food. Amazing atmosphere, but there is a blonde man named steve that lives upstairs. It's not reay a problem or anything...just be aware he is there.
D. S.
Was here on a Sunday afternoon. The place is really nice and the staff are really friendly and attentive. Both of us had the roast beef, the portions was massive and the beef was so nice. Also serve some really nice craft beers
M. K.
Top quality food - in particular their roasts! Great offering for vegans and vegetarians too. Would give 5 stars if the beer and cider offering was a bit better.
J. P.
One of the best roasts in Brighton, definately book if you want a seat. Did have one occasion I had the Spanish inquisition several times asking if I'd booked (before I'd even ordered a drink) which was a bit rude. However multiple excellent roasts have more than forgiven this!
A. B.
Lovely pub. Stopped off for some food with our 14 week old son. Staff and customers extremely helpful holding doors open and moving furniture when we arrived avec pram. They even sterilised his dummy when he threw it on the floor. If you like nice friendly pubs with good food, drink and exceptional service then you should have a look.
M. D.
The best roast I've had in ages. Definitely in my top 3.
Super friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, kids friendly although can be a bit tight for prams and there is no changing table, but that's all part of the charm.
M. L.
Always been a favourite haunt of mine, staff friendly, beers amazing n I had the roast beef the other Sunday ( advise to book), pug friendly, prosthetics friendly sadly no wheelchair accessible lavs..
A. S.
We go here every Prude weekend Sunday. Great roasts great atmosphere and great staff. There's usually 12 of us and we are well looked after.
T. H.
Lovely pub, very friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. No Sky Sports, no musak, no machines just great beer, gorgeous food and simple furnishings. Heaven!
j. b.
Nice pub. never too busy. Indoor seating only. decent beers available. Staff are nice and friendly. Nice and warm in the winter! 🍺 🍷
J. C.
Great pub with good food
C. H.
Beautiful Christmas menu. Great atmosphere as always. Good beers and wines, lovely staff, what more do you need?!
J. E.
Excellent beers, warm, cozy, intimate and clean, with good service and pleasant company. Can't comment on the food as haven't eaten here, yet. Good pub!
P. T.
Loved my first visit here. The food is great & I loved the atmosphere. However it is a bit on the pricey side so I think I would probably only visit when I'm feeling like treating myself.
L. f. l.
Great Sunday Roast, busy little pub, very popular amongst the locals. Enjoyed the chicken roast, it's a big serving.
B. W.
Great food on the menu and good vegetarian options for those inclined. Can be a bit of a squeeze at times, but a nice cosy pub nonetheless.
H.
Honestly the nicest pub in Brighton. The staff are always super friendly, the food is delicious and they even label which of their drinks are vegan which is great!
K. W.
Excellent selection of ales and food for all diets. It can get a little crowded on busy nights but always a great atmosphere. Great staff.
C. C.
Good food and really friendly. Busy on a Friday evening early but we shared a table for a drink and a really fantastic sandwich.
J. R. G.
great ales including Easy Rider which I love! and a warm welcome but ..... Please fix the floorboards by the back door leading into Windsor st. they are broken and very wonky and have been giving way for many years.
cheers!
M. C.
Another good pub to meet friends for a catch up
A. G.
A cozy gorgeous pub to have a drink in, fab staff and great service. Great variety of beers Ales Ciders Spirits and Wine, great food
F. C.
I love this place for three reasons, they have a good selection of vegan food and they are cozy and they have amazing bartenders! Last night was a blast, thanks guys!
T. W.
One of my favourite pubs in Brighton. Run by really great people. They have some really fantastic beers and ciders, and on Sundays they have a killer Sunday Roast.
C. A. (.
Still a wonderful pub with unique and tasty food but sadly no loyalty card any longer. Please bring it back and I for one will come once a week rather than once a month.
E. R.
Since Wolfsmouth have taken over the kitchen, this is now the best roast I've had in Brighton hands down. Absolutely delicious!
S. H.
Absolutely the best Sunday roast I ever had . Love the place has chill happy vibes great staff . Highly recommended
C. C.
Swift point before jumping on the train to go home after a big night out. Friendly staff and a really nice atmosphere. Thoroughly recommended.
A. T.
Had the Sunday roast and while the food was amazing the staff and overall feel of the place was fantastic as well. Make sure you call to reserve a spot for the Sunday roast which starts at 12
J. S.
Best Sunday roast I've had as long as I can remember!!! 3 vegan choices 😍😍 would definitely go again.
E. S.
Staff always friendly. Menu accommodates all allergies and preferences so it's great for groups. Nice atmosphere.

Wonderful food and vegan beer together with a very chilled atmosphere and friendly staff make this one of our favourite places to visit for a meal.
B. T.
Great pub! Good selection of interesting ales, very good food and lovely staff. Highly recommended.

Top notch Sunday roast. Lot of flavours, great texture on Yorkshire puds and potatoes. Fantastic.
J. C.
Always got a GF beer on tap 🍻
C. H.
Great food, friendly and accommodating. We had the special veggie lasagne and fried corn bread/goats cheese. Good quality and fair price
P. P.
Love the Earth and Stars. Great location, chilled vibe and a great roast.
M. R.
Food was great, really good value for money. Good beer selection, good playlist. Relaxed atmosphere. Only criticism is the toilets aren't very nice.
K. B.
One of my favourite.pubs in Brighton. Feels welcoming to everyone with great food and interesting beer selection.
M. O.
Good local craft beers and tasty food! The menu is simple but well chosen and varied
A. J.
Good selection of organic booze
S.
Extremely friendly service, great selection of non alcoholic drinks and the food is one of the best places in Brighton for pub grub
S. A.
Best pub in Brighton by far. Great atmosphere and staff not mention the amount of gluten free veggie or vegan options.
M. G.
This is a local for our company and we go here quite often. The staff are nice and there is an upstairs section for groups.
The food is okay, nothing special.
L. F.
Sit outside on the terrace for a quiet chat! The veggie burger is one of the best in the town. Many other veggie options on the menu too.
S. R.
BEST SUNDAY ROAST EVER!! Braised lamb with mint sauce, vegetables and a gigantic Yorkshire pudding with gravy, all of it served with a smile: yes please!
L. R.
Lovely atmosphere and staff, very beautiful selection of vegan foods and I very much enjoyed my premium cider I've not found anywhere else!
S. V.
Always busy! We only had a drink (the wine was decent) The food does look lovely though and super friendly staff.
C. R. (.
Great range of beers, and vegan food. Gents is a bit too cosy, but hey, you're not gonna be in there long.
S. B.
Lovely lunch with gluten free and veggie options and absolutely delicious, great if you have specific dietary requirements, very accommodating
D. W.
Food was very good but rather small portions and took quite a long time to arrive. But was delicious when it did.
m. o.
Great bar. Food was ok. Had the burger which was not over impressive given the bar set by other places in Brighton.
A. V.
Visited this place for lunch and the vegan food was delicious. Really friendly staff too. Worth a visit for sure!
V. P.
Very friendly atmosphere and wasn't busy at all. Loved the mango IPA and their fries are divine.
T. S. M.
Very good for Sunday roast
P. S.
Excellent pub with good range of drinks including guest ale and ciders and good food, eco friendly and all in all a great atmos :) been a few times now!
C. B.
Nice food. Gluten free veg and numerous vegan options. Waiters were over worked and one was grumpy.
P. D.
Nice-ish place. But they don't allow under 18s in after 9pm. And they got a bit arsey with me when I asked if it was an actual condition of their licence or just a house policy.
R. W.
Small and quite expensive. Seems very themed to vegan and natural products (which have their place, just not in a pub). Very much a hipster pub from what we saw. Not our cup of tea really
B. O.
Fantastic grub whether you're a vegan or a carnivore. Great staff and good beer.
D. K.
Great roasts, wide selection of vegan, local beers, lovely atmosphere and plenty of seating
S. K.
Lovely service and excellent food. Very good for gluten free / vegetarian / vegan options
