Friendly country pub, both my dad and I go frequently here to drink and eat, and we're never let down. Great for a summer's day. 🙂

Couldn’t find any place to eat around where I was traveling and randomly found this pub. Very old pub indeed and has lots of history in it. The inside is quite small. However, the seatings outside were plentiful and really has beautiful view of the countryside. I enjoyed my lunch over here and would come back again in near future if I am around the area.

This is a gem of a find in the Ashdown Forest. You'd pass it by without noticing but when you step into the remarkable well thought out landscaped garden you'll be treated to this view, and glad you stopped here and not the one with the famous name! There is a good selection of food . You'll pay a little more than average but probably no more than others in a popular tourist spot.

Historic pub, beautiful views, friendly service. A great location on a sunny day.
On the downside , lunch was fairly standard pub grub but expensive for what you get. I chose my main simply because it was the only option with fresh green veg. Would definitely return for drinks but not in a hurry to return for food. Would love to see the menu improved with healthier, fresher options (and I don’t mean salads!).

Very friendly family run pub. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Impressive menu with specials. Came with my 90 year old father and we both had beautifully cooked mains off the specials menu. Lovely terraced garden to the back with great views. Definitely coming back!

Excellent little country pub. The food was outstanding. One of the best Moules Mariner I have had for a long time. Although it need more bread to soak up the excellent sauce. This was provided but at £3 extra seemed to me to be rather high.
However the fish and chips were sublime.
The pub is quite small inside with a small carpark. It's rather 'tired' overall. The best place is outside in the garden facing fields.
Overall definitely worth a visit. I for one will go again.

My dad was up to stay so we thought we'd treat ourselves to Sunday lunch out. This was rated the best in our area so we thought we'd try. Sadly we were let down.
Is in an amazing location and the views in the garden were great. It's family run so your not pumping money into a corporate chain.
The staff seemed to be all family who knew a lot of the people dining in there which meant they were a little distracted but friendly.
The roast was average and the potions very small for the piece tag of £19!!
When you add onto this the fact that they add 12% service to your bill without telling you or checking your happy to pay it a roast costs you £21.28.
If you're in a wheelchair, struggle to walk or have a pushchair it's not that great for access as the pubs on a hill and there's lots of steps to get to the garden.
Safe to say its a shame the service charge not informed about and the small portions mean we won't be visiting again in a hurry.

Super little pub. We had a wonderful Sunday roast served in their sloping garden out back with views down the valley. Publican very clearly cares about the pub and its service. Very good menu.

Lovely log fire, warm hospitality and a great meal of tender calf's liver with onions, mash and winter greens at the end of a long day. Highly recommend the excellent food, the beautiful old inn and the warm reception.
