Reviews of The Mesmerist
E. W.
We visited The Mesmerist in September as a group of 18 for a Hen Do bottomless brunch. We all had a really lovely time with our drinks being topped up regularly and amazing food that was served quickly. The Bride-To-Be had an allergy to one of the main drinks on the set menu but the staff very kindly tweaked it slightly so that she could still enjoy the bottomless brunch.
I'd recommend the food in general as it really was delicious! I had the avo on toast and loved it.
Overall we had a really great time at the Mesmerist, and all the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend!
C. D.
First time and certainly not my last. Immediately went for the cocktails and for a staff member that’s only been there 6 months, they absolutely smashed these cocktails! Nice range of drinks, they can cater to your needs if you prefer something sweet or sour. I had The Bees Knees which was done perfectly!
J. M.
£4.15 for a pint of brown tinged water. I asked for coke, it came out of a Pepsi dispenser and it tastes like water with a dash of pepsi. Oh, and mostly ice.
Great venue though. Lovely, heated, roof terrace with deck chairs and music.
L. K.
A really nice bottomless brunch, not stingy at all with the drinks (although a few different options would have been nice as only mimosa or Bloody Mary!) the food was delicious and service (with Hayley) was friendly and quick. Would go again :)
C. H.
Stumbled across a great find, with friendly staff serving amazing cocktails.
J. T.
Great veggie and vegan options. Very flavourful. The only thing I would say that I didn't like is the plate/bowl thing it was in. Felt like a dog bowl. I presume it may be something to do with covid, so maybe they usually have plates. Other than that lovely.
I. S.
Love the vibe and music in this restaurant. I ordered the full monty and gin and lychee martini. Both not bad though for the price is a bit higher compared to the taste and serving size. Would go back again though
J. H.
Best cocktail bar in Brighton! Amazing door team and amazing bar staff! Place is very well run and kept very clean! Prices are reasonable and good is tasty. 💯
S. P.
Went here for dinner last night and it was great. As a group we had both the dirty fries and the vegan dirty fries and both were great. In addition we had the chicken waffles, tacos, vegan burger and two of us had the jackfruit macaroni. All the food was great with lovely service. We would recommend this place for both food and drinks. I would return.
G. C.
We went for a Sunday Roast. The food was lovely and at decent quantity and the staff very friendly. However it took quite a bit of time before the food arrived.

Last visited 10 years ago! Was quiet as to be expected on a Tues afternoon. Guiness good. As with all my reviews, on the surface looks clean, toilets not used but yeah should be ok.
J. (.
Cocktails were very expensive and felt quite basic, music was a little too loud for how young the night was. Slow to get served.
N. M.
Went for Funday brunch, food was awesome, drinks were great and service was very good. Very impressed
M. G.
This place is my new go to! The food is decent and I love their cocktails. Will recommend the vegan dirty fries but the tater tots are a bit overpriced in my experience. (:
M. A.
This was our first outing during the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme and we were not disappointed!
Our first impression was delicious air-con during the heatwave.
Staff were really really friendly and attentive from start to finish!
The QR code ordering system was so quick and easy to use, meaning we could maintain a social distance and be provided quick and amazing service from start to finish.
D.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and a nice drink aswell, worth a visit if you are in Brighton.
G. B.
Wow wow wow , got to this pub at 8pm first time I've been there the music was fantastic northern soul and funck soul I lived it great atmosphere great people everyones dancing .
Ages from 21- 69 brilliant night 🤩🤞🤞🤞🤛🤛
N. A.
Our favourite pub in Brighton. Great beers (super IPA’s) and the staff are fantastic and know their various drinks whenever we ask about new beers on tap!
D.
We had the veggie Sunday roast, with goat cheese and mushrooms. It was superb, not a fan of the mushrooms they used though. My other friend had the goat cheese and onions tart - yeah, we kinda like goat cheese.
Staff is very friendly, nice atmosphere and reasonable prices.
P. L.
We had a yummy light lunch here in the cosy back room where the music is not too loud. We ordered the falafel salad and the tofu burger. The falafels were a bit stodgy but the tofu burger was surprisingly nice. The staff were very friendly, kind and really helpful just like youll find all over Brighton. Interestingly decorated, well located. I'd give them 5 stars if the falafel was better.
C. M.
Such a cool bar, full of interesting people and interesting decor. Great cocktails and super experienced staff. Awesome rooftop garden. Dogs allowed. Perfect!
L. E.
Been here a few times now, I enjoy this pace.
Had some excellent live music on a Tuesday evening when we visited, great atmosphere. Very chilled vibe for all.
The food and drink selection is extensive. We stopped on a Sunday for their roast; tasty and filling.
R. H.
Quite simply my favourite pub in Brighton. Love it. Never fails to have great beers on, served by great staff.
G. T.
Nice bar with a stage area. Visited it as part of the Alternative Escape on the Great Escape festival weekend and got to see some great bands including ARCAVES. Drinks weren’t the cheapest but the atmosphere more than made up for that. Would visit again.
H. R.
Not quite the small exclusive experience we were expecting when booking a table was essential, seemed to be a free for all and very hot, downstairs bar area (which was packed) was cooler!!
D. S.
Visit was pre-COVID. Stopped in for a quick pint while my wife did some shopping. Had a nice pint of Zamzama IPA from Gun Brewery. 6.5%. Very nice. Pub was quite for a Sunday with a big game in town this weekend. Other pubs were packed with supporters but not this one. Cozy and the staff was friendly. Nice beer garden but weather didn't support using it.
b. b.
Came for a birthday night out, quite crowded but not uncomfortably so. Great music, not to long to wait at the bar for a drink.
J.
I booked The Mesmerist's first cocktail lesson for my friend's hen party and could not have been more impressed. Everyone had an incredible time and enjoyed it so much with the friendly and knowledgeable bar staff teaching us. The atmosphere was really amazing in our own bar space and it really made the hen happy too- quite important!
R. S.
Had an amazing night here a few weeks ago great atmosphere great music and great team on the doors and behind the bar
D. M.
One cracking sunday roast!
W. W.
Lively atmosphere . Live bands and dj, brilliant
T. O.
Great food and atmosphere... Couldn't decide what to order coz there were too many options that sounded too good to miss... So we ordered far too much.
C. L.
Nice spot for a day drink id imagine with the rooftop terrace. Had a mid week evening drink here and there was a band on but it was really slow, not much happening music, and very loud given the vibe, so not possible to dance or vibe to and also not great for a catch up with friends.. Not much seating downstairs either
P. G.
Great live music friendly staff lots of different areas roof garden
L.
Nice pub, roof terrace, live music, busy atmosphere on weekends. Friendly bar staff which really makes a difference 😁
S. B.
On a rainy day in Brighton the Sunday Roast was fantastic! Great for meat eaters , vegetarians and vegans . The vegetables , gravy and potatoes were all perfect and the side of cauliflower cheese delicious! All washed down with quality range of lagers and delicious cocktails . Lovely service too.
D.
Great music & atmosphere with decent band. Low point bartenders recommendation of cocktail when didn't have what she wanted,he said he recommended Margareta & put sugar round glass so she thought could be good but it was salt. So she went & got a coke.
S. B.
Great pub, great atmosphere, great staff. Especially Phoebe, who had just started and yet seemed like an old hand at the job. Drinks were served super quickly despite the match being on. Highly recommend.
K. L.
Great music. Could do with some deals on their cocktails.
A. P.
Great night's out to be had here, great vibes, great staff, great music and above all great dancing!!!
J. C.
Such lovely friendly staff who were happy to make cocktails that weren't on the menu.
A. F.
Very good veggie and Vegan roasts. Good cocktails, good beer selection.
S. M.
Nice pub with a rooftop garden which is lovely on a sunny day, only downside is there is a lot of steps to get up there so would be unreachable for some. The food was good and staff friendly.
N. T.
We did their Bottomless Roast (Sunday Funday) and it was brilliant! The food was outstanding, they accommodated gluten free requirements easily and without fuss and the service was jovial and fun. Unlike some bottomless brunches, these guys actually want you to drink! No watered down cocktails or slow service that restricts from having fun and making the most of your 2 hours. Our server was Bobby and he was great. Highly recommend 👍🏽 I recommend not booking bang on 12pm as you have to queue to get in because of COVID stuff and it does eat into your time a bit. Saying that, they didn’t push us off our table bang on 2 hours at all.
S. W.
Nice pub. Great atmosphere. Could do with some decent music to reflect the uniqueness of the pub. Doing a good job with the social distancing compliance. Only criticism is the long wait for your drinks to arrive at the table. ( you have to order/pay via an app). We ordered drinks on 4 separate occasions and each time waited a long time for them to arrive. The servers varied in how they brought the drinks to the table. Some wouldn’t touch the glasses and made us take them off the tray ourselves and some were happy to pass the drinks to us which led to momentary awkwardness when the drinks arrived! Servers also hot on wiping and disinfecting the table tops but not the chair backs which is a bit strange as the chairs are tucked back under the tables and customers have to touch the chair backs to pull them out to sit down. Would like to return and listen to some live music when it returns.
Ps ladies loos...... bit grim
O. S.
Such a fun and unique venue. DJ's spinning actual vinyl! A great night out.
e. h.
My favourite bar in Brighton! Beautiful decor and friendly staff. I love it so much that despite not booking last weekend, we took a table for 15 minutes just to grab a quick drink and soak up the atmosphere. The roof terrace is fantastic in the summer and the cocktails (especially the pink fizz) are wonderful 👏
L. C.
Our server Rachel was super lovely and fantastic at her job! Rest of the staff were also lovely. Incredible food both vegan and meat related. Cocktails super duper tasty and reasonably priced. Great atmosphere, great social distancing + measures in place :)
S. M.
Something different, live this place, great selection of beers and drinks. Food is very good, huge portion sizes, not your standard burger and chips here. You can have spicy wedges or cheesy chips, the chicken burgers are delicious. I tried the strange sounding southern fried chicken with pancakes maple syrup and bacon jam, it was gorgeous. Didn't need the extra portion of wedges. Does good looking vegan and veggie stuff.
The decor is cool with loads of seating upstairs.
T. B.
Bottomless brunch was disappointing, roof terrace was closed off so we were just in the shade on the pavement. Plastic cups and food was dry and bland served in takeaway containers. Pre covid times this place is normally great for drinks
B. W.
Found us a seat upstairs on a Sunday and had a fabulous Sunday Roast
G. L.
It was fine but didn't really live up to the expectation I had from seeing photos. The terrace was a bit underwhelming but still a nice space. Stayed for one drink. Friendly and helpful staff.
J. J.
Best Sunday Lunch this side of the Mississippi 🤠
C. C.
Overpriced cocktails, unfriendly atmosphere. Not enough seating Had one drink and left
D.
We were there on a Saturday after noon and spent a few hours on the roof terrace. Suited me as outside so I could enjoy weather and smoke and had a bar on the terrace so perfect. Drinks are expensive but didn't bother me as don't like drinking in the street. Yes I would recommend for a drink, we didn't eat but plenty of people in there eating and menu looks good. We will try the bottomless brunch one Saturday.
G. P.
My all favourite pub! Great vibes, good music!
A. B.
Nice staff, lovely outdoor roof terrace for in the summer, although I was really looking forward to the cocktails but essentially got a glass of ice which let it down, moved on after 1 drink.
T. F.
I enjoyed it here as late night bars go. As a seriously uncool 30 something, I didn't feel that out of place and there were some real interesting characters in there. They played 90s music all night so worked for me!
K. W.
They managed to fit us in without a booking on a packed sunny Saturday. The food was good and the service speedy. Definitely keen to try the bottomless brunch sometime.
S. N.
Great atmosphere and decent prices with a good selection of drinks to pick from. I’ve been here for bottomless brunch too and they were really generous with the cocktails.
J. L.
Ridiculously long wait for food and drinks but it was worth it! Hands down The Best Mac n cheese I've ever had, the ribs were divine, as was the jumbalaya, corn, slaw, everything! Our server was polite, friendly, apologetic for the wait, she worked her butt off. It gets busy, but it's worth the wait. 5*
P. H.
Good large pub, lovely roof terrace. Not the place for a quite pint as it appears to attract hen/stag parties.
L. P.
Great bar with knowledgable and helpful staff. Good cocktails.
Live jazz band when we went that just played around and jammed for most of the night. Great vibes
A. F.
Great cocktails, but music always way too loud to have proper conversations with your friends.
A. W.
Good bar, friendly staff, lots of places to sit and drink. Top stuff.
A. S.
Nice pub, pretty roudy but good food
H. D.
If I could give 10 stars I would. Burger was heaven, staff was nice and I just cannot get over the fact how I have never tasted anything better before. And they have Cider that tastes like thatchers 😍
M. C. T.
We went for lunch first day after the 2nd lock down finished. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. They'd adapted to the changes really well. Professional with out being jobsworths. The home made real beef Nachos were excellent. The picture shows them part eaten as we paused to take a photo as they were so nice. It was quite quiet as first day, but they still managed to create a good atmosphere. Will definitely be going back. Great job dudes! 😁
N. P.
Went in for lunch, had chicken burger and fries. The burger was fantastic, huge, freshly made, didn't fall apart. Will definitely do it again some time.
S. G.
the best mix of people in brighton (or hove).
l. b.
The staff are so warm and welcoming, it's a real pleasure to be in the Mesmerist.
B. T.
Didnt have cocktails but had a lively g&t staff were lovely x
M. G.
Lovely bar, great vibe, good DJ, nice atmosphere, cool 😎 crowd ,
B. M.
I like the Mesmerist. Chilled atmosphere. Amazing staff.
S. B. M.
Nice place. Good vibes. Tasty cocktails.
j. k.
Sunday lunch was amazing!! Really nice food, also the unlimited cocktail was a bonus!! Will deffo be back here next time in Brighton.
m.
Nice atmosphere, great cocktails
H. B.
Arrived as a group for a birthday to be told they don't allow more than 5 in at once, so I've we'd arrived separately it wouldn't have been as problem... after speaking to the manager we were let in, but unnecessary disruption to our evening, quite a silly rule and unless you were a regular, not a rule you'd know about. Asides from this, they do good drinks and it's a nice atmosphere
J. C.
Popped in for a pint and spot of food at lunchtime. Covid friendly service. Good food. Dirty chips were great. I can imagine this place is buzzing in the evenings but unfortunately having a very young child does not currently give me the option to find out.
G. V.
Really fun vibes and tasty drinks. Alex & Georgia did customised drinks too which was really nice. Definitely recommend!
S. G.
Decor and atmosphere are excellent. Sat down for a late lunch, staff very attentive and friendly. Ordered half rack of ribs and a bottle of wine. The food is outstanding, portions are generous, and of a very high standard as was the selection of wines available. I highly recommend!!!
P. B.
Top notch Sunday roast, thank you
e. f.
Omg the best bottomless roast ever fact. food was amazing drinks were flowing service was good...Ash whatever your doing keep doing it. Cant wait to return x
J. J.
After a disappointing dinner elsewhere in Brighton, me and my boyfriend decided to get some cocktails to cheer ourselves up but everywhere was heaving. Luckily, the bartender directed us upstairs to the wonderfully chilled 70s themed cocktail lounge. Brilliant music was playing, staff were so friendly and Alex recommended some great cocktails. Will be returning!
J. B.
Quirky pub with a gorgeous roof top garden. Fantastic cocktails and lovely staff.
J. M.
Brilliant venue good service Wheelchair Accessible Toilet quiet area at rear of venue if don't like crowds. I highly recommend this establishment.
B. P.
Nice pub, but not many choices of ciders and beers
P. B.
Great pub, great atmosphere
D. P.
Lovely friendly place for a pit stop after a day of shopping
K. D.
Really nice bar, we only went for drinks so can't comment on the food. Drinks were really nice and the rooftop terrace was great in the sun! Staff are really friendly as well.
M. F.
Great venue, excellent IPA selection.
L. T.
Booked table for dinner thinking it was a restaurant with space for music elsewhere. We were given a high table just about big enough for two of us. It got so busy we left after dinner without waiting for a the DJ. Too many people in a small space. Dinner was fabulous, great portions and very tasty.
C. D.
Really nice atmosphere and dancing. Lots of lovely dressed people and great live music. Have seen wedding parties here, though it's not a super fancy establishment. It's really quirky with lots of character but the drinks are a little on the expensive side. Always a good night had here. Toilets are a bit grotty .
H. W.
I'm going with 5 stars purely for the fact I don't remember being here, I must have had a great night! Thanks guys!
M. D.
Cocktails were great, staff were helpful and helped chose the appropriate drink according to favourite tastes.
I. F.
Quirky bar located on Price Albert Street. Good range of cocktails which are presented well. Had a delicious honey drizzled cocktail here.
Bouncers a little odd with their questioning asking us where we have come from and why we wanted to go to the pub!?
P. R.
Very friendly brighton pub serving local beer and amazing cocktails
T. M.
Did their bottomless roast and the food was exceptional. Bloody Mary's not especially spicy at a "10/10" on their spice scale. Will return for sure!
E. C.
Love this place! The cocktails are excellent and the atmosphere is always inviting. I really like the different rooms and levels.
G. S.
The roasts were absolutely divine, the pork belly was the best ive ever had! Book the bottomless roasts- definitely worth the price. Kitty was so kind and so thoughtful!!
E. H.
My friends and I visited yesterday for Bottomless Brunch. It was very average and nothing compared to other places we have been to Brighton. Overall it was OK but I wouldn’t choose to go back for brunch again
e. a.
Omg the salted caramel espresso martini was solo lush, enjoyed drinking and playing kitty letter
s. s.
Very friendly staff, trying hard to run a bar with all the restrictions in place and doing a good job, haven't tried the food but looks amazing, downsides to covid and table service is the time you can wait for a drink but looked after properly.
J. B.
Booked a table at the Flipside - booking was easy, staff over the phone were really helpful. Even though we were really late on the night the bouncers were nice, upstairs decor was stunning, drinks were good and the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Loved it.
V. D.
Favourite place in Brighton. Had the first date with my husband 8 years ago. Love the music and cocktails
C. W.
This is an excellent place, beautifully odd and unique. The only issue was we had a private function booked on the condition two children could attend. The manager said this wasn't a problem but on the day they where told to leave. If they had been badly behaved I'd understand but they were not even seen but guests downstairs.
P. F.
Last time I went was much better, about food, and stuff to. Now looks bit different. Food not the same,
T. S.
Good selection of craft beer. Was very dark in there as the lighting is very subtle. Looked like it was closed from outside. Background music was at the right volume with an eclectic mix. Staff were friendly. Never tried the food so can't comment or score that. They only lost a star for the lighting. When back in Brighton, I will definitely be coming back. Ale drinkers, get in there.
A. W.
Am amazing dog-friendly and people - friendly place that makes you feel genuinely welcome. The food is scrumptious, the staff taking care of you unobtrusively yet warm. Can't wait to come back!
R. C. T.
I have been here twice. Once on a busy Saturday evening and another on a more chilled out live music night. Both really good evenings. The cocktails were lovely and the service was very quick despite the place being very busy.
F. M.
Nice, quirky bar. Especially loved the cocktail lounge on the top floor, cool retro decor.
G. K.
Great Atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and reasonably priced too.
T. C.
Great centre of town bar with some care and dedication with cocktails even at peak times. Pop in on Wednesday night's for Lindy hop lessons upstairs followed by the best Wednesday night love music from the resident band from 9.30pm. As an extra bonus order up some great unique bar food with minimal fuss but great taste.
A. S.
It would be a nice place to spend the weekend actually. With people and a very nice music.
The fact it's the people; it's fine to wait for the entrance and having some entrance selection but should be done better, fiding people under clear assumption of substances nearby you while sitting at the table with your friends it's just not so funny. It's not about the place off course but a clever selection may help avoding this trouble.
Solve this and it's one of the best pubs in town!
L. S.
Great pub, good beers and atmosphere
R. J.
Lovely place for a cocktail and a dance. Live music is great and adds atmosphere. Lovely upstairs smoking area with a bar (would be good if this was open more !) A little pricey but worth it for the chilled vibes.
G. S.
It's a lovely building in a good location. The decor is stylish and good quality, and we did enjoy our drinks and meal...so why three stars?
1. The drinks whilst good, were insanely expensive. £26 for a pint of Cider, a glass of white wine, a bottle of alcohol free lager, and a double rum and mixer? Not ok guys!
2. Menu - limited, around 10% over priced, and by 8pm on a Saturday night they'd run out of around a third of the items.
3. Service - all the staff were friendly and personable which was great, but, it took a very long time to get served at the very quiet bar, the food took its time too. And when the food did arrive there was around a ten minute gap between the first of our group of 8 bring served and the last of the food arriving. Most of us had ordered from the "burger" section of the menu - which incident didn't actually have any burgers in it - so most of use had fries. Naturally we asked for condiments to go with the fries but these took another 10 minutes to turn up.
Little details I know, but the they add up.
E. H.
Very nice staff is very friendly food is great me partner and I loved it
A. R.
Such a great atmosphere, I'd recommend this place to anyone
H. M.
Do a beautiful roast on Sundays. Drinks are expensive though, cost nearly £40 for 2 roasts and 2 beers. Would still recommend though, nice decor inside too.
J. K.
Had a lovely roast dinner here for 5 of us today celebrating a birthday. The staff were great, helpful and courteous. Amazing selection of drinks, especially the different variations on the bloody Mary 😊
K. G.
Welcomes everyone, decent selection of sales and shorts. Upstairs is a pleasant surprise. We liked sitting in the bath! Had a good night, but if you are a group, beware they only let up to 4 people in who are together. Only issue we had was the upstairs barman was a bit up himself and was rude to us when we asked for a beer that they apparently only serve downstairs. Must have been the woolly hat make his brain woolly.
R. L.
Good place but don't come you will take our room
K. S.
Nice quirky place, great interior. Pleasant staff. Very small menu (I like a small menu - a few dishes, cooked to perfection, rather than a large collection of rubbish) and the food is superb. Good beer, lager and wine selection.
c. m.
Excellent bottomless bunch. New lad Bobby working there make sure it was bottomless. Excellent service, covid safe and friendly
A. M.
Stopped in here for a quick drink and to escape the weather before a wedding at the town hall next door. The staff were friendly and efficient. I thought there was a lack of seating but it was probably set up for busier times in the evening and with less chairs you can get more people in.
A. F.
Does great cocktails and great vibe. Really friendly staff and good live music nights. There is also a great rooftop terrace for a bit of fresh air, or a smoke ;)
E. D.
Really cool old school vibes. The music was Northern Soul and rock n roll when we were there and there was a good atmosphere. Really chill, and people were already dancing at 9pm. Cocktails were good, though expensive.
A. I.
I had my birthday gathering last Sunday. The roasts were outstanding. Delicious and plentiful. The staff were attentive and super friendly. Can't wait to get another roast.
c. o.
Very nice decor, music was nice and the drinks were good. The staff member behind the bar was lovely but was ruined by her colleagues barking orders from the table halfway across the room.
L. C.
Was here last night and we had a great time. Loved the old school funky 70s and soul music 🎶 good atmosphere, met some lovely people in the smoking area. Definitely come back when we visit Brighton again ❤️
J. H.
Great music, incredible cocktails and super sexy bar staff. I reckon its the best night in Brighton since Fat Boy Slims famous beach party. Highly recommend it. If you go Tuesday or Wednesday I recommend dancing shoes.
j. c.
Excellent place. Very friendly helpful staff. Food amazing. Had Sunday lunch here was outstanding. Clean and very accommodating. Don't miss this place out if you want some great food.
N.
Friendly and chatty bar staff when a friend and I were some of the only people in there. Pretty cool open space. Haven't been of a night but if you want a quiet drink in the day time I'd happily recommend!
a. r.
Great music on Wednesday night, the atmosphere is great and drinks are cheap, paid £14 for different 3 drinks. Not too busy, space to sit down, but the right vibe.
J. L.
Stepped in because I've seen a lot of publicity on social media about this pub. It did not disappoint. If you know Laine pub company this place ticks all the boxes, including the cool hidden garden with plenty of shelter from the elements. Timmy served us in the bottle shop and was awesome, he was knowledgable on his beers and very attentive when I asked for beers which weren't in the fridge, going to look in the cellar for stock. Lewis then served us draught beers at the main bar, giving us tasters and great chat. A really welcoming experience, will definitely be back. Thanks guys!
P. S.
Been going here for 5 years and love it every single time! Love that the taste of their mojitos hasn't changed one bit in this time. The staff really vary but the drinks and atmosphere is always amazing.
N. G.
The roof garden was great until the sprinklers went off and everyone got soaked 😆 poor girls next to us had their paper shopping bag disintegrate. Go but don't sit by the walls! X
O.
I really love The Mesmerist. It has a fantastic atmosphere, like the door to the upstairs restaurant. It's always lively and nice to sit in.
The drinks are expensive, and the cocktails are daylight robbery at £8! This is why I removed a star.
I like it that they use waxed paper straws rather than single use plastic straws - great for the planet.
The East African/Indian food served there is absolutely fantastic. Me and my family loved it! It was a change from normal Indian food you can eat anywhere, with familiar attributes.
R. J.
Friendly staff, wide selection of cocktails. Great roof area for smokers with a bar. Amazing music acts in the evening, especially the jazz on a Tuesday night.
J. C.
Lovely staff nice roof top area. Good food nice atmosphere
K. S.
One of the best Brighton roasts I've had in a long time. Doggies happily allowed and service amazing. Will definitely come back. The food was amazing!!!!!!!
M. D.
Had a fantastic evening at the Mesmerist, great staff and beer. There was a circus evening on with some wonderful performers... Refreshingly different from the usual Brighton pubs. Will definitely be back for Soapbox!
S. P.
Lovely coffee and amazing customer service. Extremely helpful and gave us great suggestions where to go after our visit. Would certainly visit again!
R. S.
Great roast m8
M. E.
Lovely place good service great coffee and rosé. We will definitely come back to try the food menu.
S. B.
Just popped in for a quick coffee. Service was great, but I was hoping to sit on the roof, which was closed.
s. s.
Very friendly staff, trying hard to run a bar with all the restrictions in place and doing a good job, haven't tried the food but looks amazing, downsides to covid and table service is the time you can wait for a drink but looked after properly.
N. G.
The roof garden was great until the sprinklers went off and everyone got soaked 😆 poor girls next to us had their paper shopping bag disintegrate. Go but don't sit by the walls! X
J. P.
Fantastic pub, great atmosphere. I recommend many pints of Orchard thief.
l. w.
Great cocktails...great bar
T. S.
Good selection of craft beer. Was very dark in there as the lighting is very subtle. Looked like it was closed from outside. Background music was at the right volume with an eclectic mix. Staff were friendly. Never tried the food so can't …
D. W.
Lovely
D. S.
Nice pub. We stopped here on a Sunday and the roast dinners were amazing. A good amount of food and felt like a home cooked roast. Thoroughly recommend!
L. S.
Great atmosphere and a strong identity that runs through the entire place. Wide drinks selection, the summer rooftop bar is awesome.
M. S.
Trendy hipster place. Refurbished as of 2019. Good food, decent drinks prices. Great roof terrace with sun loungers. Worth a visit.
M. M.
Good selection of beer & drinks, great vibe and music - not your standard electronic/pop/hip-hop sort of place. Always an interesting variety of people too.
Service really depends - it's often quite busy but I find the bar staff downstairs fairly good; upstairs it can be good or really bad though.
S. E.
Fabulous sounds and fabulous people dancing the Lindyhop great to listen to and to watch....so much energy.
Really good priced lime and soda for me as designated driver.
J. W.
Strange pub. DJ playing louder than necessary at 3pm, good range of beers, multi level bar but only the ground floor was open. Dogs allowed.
M. E.
Lovely place good service great coffee and rosé. We will definitely come back to try the food menu.
S. R.
Atmosphere was great, the staff were very friendly and attentive. Small issue with some of the food but 10% taken of the bill. Will be going again
L. A.
Great music. Good crowd. Got very busy around 11.30 but calmed down a bit after not long. Good cocktails. Great atmosphere
C. S.
Brilliant pub and a hidden gem. The bar staff are very friendly and helpful and there is a nice atmosphere here. I'll be visiting again.
J. L.
Roof terrace was really nice, friendly staff
x.
Good staff. The environment was good too. Dark haired girl called Bina was the best bartender i'ver ever had! Really good cocktail knowledge and made me a mean espresso martini!
S. W.
Used to come here when it was old Orleans. It hasnt changed much , still has great cocktails and is heaving late on a Saturday night. Great place for a dance too.
R. L.
Had a great night. Not enough bar staff provided at a private party, one for 70 people, but Liam made up for it being very attentive knocking out some great cocktails!
B. T.
Nice rooftop bar, good vibes
M. R.
Was alright. Make sure you ask for rooftop and not outdoor seating if thats what you want as we found out the hard way
D. G.
Music and atmosphere excellent. Choice of beers a little limited and they ran out of mulled wine at about 6pm.
D. K.
Great atmosphere during Brighton Pride, classic anthems being played in the bar area, but a brilliant party happening on the rooftop with underground Brighton DJs playing all night long.
H. N.
I really love this pub, possibly my favourite in Brighton. Good location and a good terrace for the better weather. You can also book for functions. Great staff.
S. H.
Really cool bar with a really funky atmosphere. The bar staff are friendly and the environment is too. The queue for the bar can be slow on busier nights and the prices are on the more expensive side but overall the Mesmerist is a great bar
R. B.
Brilliant little bar with good music and events. Three floors allowing for different settings and s change if wanted. Very recommended!
O.
Great atmosphere and the staff were brilliant. Only gripe was the food has gone down in quality since I was there a few years a go.
T. B.
Quiet enough to chat, loud enough to dance, nice touch of alternative both in the bar/music and resultingly in the clientele. Also stocks 3 gluten free beers, which is a big plus for me!
I. T.
The staff are friendly and the drinks were really nice too! Great atmosphere
L. M.
Nice alternative night out, great cocktails but pricey (plus side = less young students!) There is also now a roof top, but no views because of the fenced edges
H. M.
Quirky, friendly, fantastic food, service and staff! A must for anyone visiting Brighton, an eclectic mix of music and medical memorabilia, including the furniture polish. Definitely visit here again!!!
S. A.
It was OK. The roof top bar cocktails were mainly ice and took a long time to make. Shame to have a rooftop terrace in Brighton without views!
F. B.
Went there in the evening when there was a live jazz band - nothing quite like it! Drinks were well mixed and it had a really electric but relaxed atmosphere.
M. W.
Upstairs seating area much nicer with a smaller and quicker bar service than downstairs. After 10pm the downstairs turned to a dancing floor and music getting too loud for chatting upstairs
P. C. (.
Always liked this place :)
J. B.
Great place and much larger than you would imagine. Expertly mixed cocktails. Good atmosphere. Pricey.
A. R.
Good selection of beers and South American style food. Late Fridays afternoon was quiet but 2 starters took a long time to arrive. Food was bery good however.
C. S.
The best bar in town for swing, jive and rock n rollness. Check out the recent addition of a rooftop terrace area for everyone, especially for couples or first dates..
D. A.
Great food, but asked for jd and coke. Was given diet coke and told that it would be OK, they taste the same. No they don't.
A. F.
Have fun at the Mesmerist every time I go. Great beers and cocktails. Great free live music most days of the week. What's not to like?
s. h.
Visited for lunch yesterday guy who greeted us was a little rude/offish. Food was good, pineapple juice wasn't great.
A. R.
This place goes on and on, great downstairs, could have spent the entire time there, no worries, but there is way more upstairs including a secret roof top bar, loved it
O. G.
Very tasty cocktails and bar staff were awesome. Only let down was that there was only 1 menu in the whole venue.
D. R.
Great place and location, cool atmosphere. The music is not commercial type. The bar is quite good, never waited too long for a drink
A. F.
Amazing food- couldn’t believe the quality and time taken to prepare it properly. Obviously a committed Chef who takes pride in his work. The prices put a lot of restaurants to shame. I can’t recommend this Chef enough.
S. B.
Nice live music
Also staffs are nice
S. R.
Always great music and an eclectic mix of clientele. Too long to queue for drinks but a good venue all the same.
E. C.
Fun night out with friends. We had table service and our waitress was fantastic.
B. M.
Came for drinks. Had a sunday lunch. The lamb shank was incredible. The food was delicious and the staff are bloody lovely. Love this pub!
J. D.
Live music and good cocktails
T. D.
Big open space, nice atmosphere. Seems like a place to go for pre drinks before heading out to your night.
K. M.
I liked the atmosphere of this pub for some reason (and the fact they use paper straws for drinks to reduce plastic pollution). Food was medium, service good.
F. L.
Bartenders are ever changing and have poor knowledge of their products, but a great place to dance on Wednesdays and Mondays.. I would tip the band before buying a drink for sure
A. S.
Nice atmosphere and good food, bit pricey but it is London on the coast. Our waitress rachel was fantastic, really nice.
G. B.
Superb atmosphere every time I've visited, accompanied by wonderfully friendly staff members, tasty drinks, and top class live music.
T. M.
Great drinks, great service, great location, great roof terrace!
a. L.
Went for dinner, great staff, great food and a good drinks selection, would definitely go back
T. P.
Drinks were out super fast, they seem to have got it right here!
D. B.
A bar that is more than just a bar. Trying to imitate a speakeasy of the 1920s with some raunchy shows every now and then such as magicians and firebreathers. And there's a good selection of drinks as well as a little café.
K. H.
Wow.
Great place.
Good music , very popular.
Drinks are pricey.
B. H.
Quirky place, great atmosphere, didn't eat but food did look tempting, bar staff are brilliant, definitely going back
L.
A great busy pub on a weekend night. Live music and a nice buzz.
Slightly older level of customer
S. C.
Great atmosphere and an amazing selection of different spirits and cocktails, staff were very accommodating.
M. S.
Spent an evening at The Flipside. Amazing vibe, fantastic drinks and probably the best retro playlist I’ve ever heard in a public place!
M. T.
A good pub that serves nice food. Has two floors with lots of seats. Good for an office party.
B. K.
Cocktail bar with live music through the week. Mostly aimed at jazz. Great atmosphere but can be pricy
J. S.
First time visitor , food was tasty and well presented , good drinks selection behind the bar and friendly staff. Nice ambience all round.
A. W.
Great place. Rented out the top floor area for an after wedding doo. Highly recommended. Staff were all very friendly
l. e.
Nice place good music but expensive £9 for a cocktail I think that's just brighton prices.
Would visit again!
C. F.
Super busy and expensive, but cocktails were delicious and there was enough seating that we managed to find a table for a big group of us upstairs!
C. B.
I think there is a slight reduction in quality overall. The cocktails weren't as good as previous visits and the decor is starting to get a bit worn.
M. D.
Nice pub for a few beers, good atmosphere and a great location in the centre of Brighton.
W. D.
Drinks are overpriced and the food is average. It's got a secret roof terrace and there's loads of space. Quite pleasant
S. M.
Home of the best oldies hits - 50s to 80s... you name your favorite artists from that era! Great music and vibe...twist and dance your heart out 😊
k. 8.
Great night with my friend's...had a excellent live band...would definitely recommend
l. m.
Saturday night, great DJ, beware as door security don't let in groups for hen/stag do's, good happy crowd, great fun!
K. R.
Swing jazz at its finest with the friendliest bouncers in Brighton, and certainly one of the more eclectic bars I have been to. A rip roaring time was had by all.
R. H.
Saturday night music is OK, but bit too samey. Mix the music up a bit more. Could improve the lager situation. Good selection of rum.
J. P.
Fantastic pub, great atmosphere. I recommend many pints of Orchard thief.
J. M.
Good bar in Brighton centre
A. D.
Nice place for drinks with a great roof terrace. The staff is very friendly and pleasant but it's a bit overpriced.
S. B.
Just popped in for a quick coffee. Service was great, but I was hoping to sit on the roof, which was closed.
R. C.
Good vibes, lively place. A bit creepy with all the random pictures and ornamants but good creepy. I like the weirdness and the roof top terrace is awesome
N. D.
I'm too old for this place. Walked up to roof terrace and had to walk up and down four flights of stairs every time we needed a drunk. Silly! Get your sh.. together and open the bars upstairs when you're busy.
C. H.
Nice bar with good atmosphere but £16 odd for 2 drinks🤯.
J. E.
Quirky bar with great atmosphere, this is a wonderful place to have a drink and really unique to a lot of other places.
d.
Amazing food & outstanding staff .
J. G.
Lovely rooftop Aperol Spritz :)
G. P.
Good to be back, friendlier than ever and great beers as always
S. J.
Great atmosphere and Sunday lunch is really lovely. Can be very very busy in the evenings, but I know cooler people than me like that!
P. S.
Great pub, good selection of drinks and food. Also the roof terrace is lovely in the warmer weather.
J. W.
By far the best of the big pubs in Brighton, worth trying if only for the roof terrace. Nice place.
S. R.
Nice roof top and outside area. Great for some early drinks to start your night.
a. h.
Amazing place! Great music! We had a wonderful evening dancing, super atmosphere!!
R. S.
The stepped climb to the top open terrace is worth if, even if without a view I did not get to savour the gastronomical delights
A. J.
Great crowd and entertainment. Drinks were good and reasonably priced.
M. “. K.
Awesome food, African style. Nice beer, fancy cocktails, all wrapped up in an eccentric package, with a photobooth.
M. E.
Great selection of cocktails and beers. Nice roof garden and take away beer store.
M. B.
Great food, excellent beer and one of the most unique places around, highly recommended.
M. M.
Great place to hangout, good cocktails and nice environment, live music on few days of the week
D. W.
Insanely loud - probably a health risk for your hearing and certainly impossible to talk downstairs. Otherwise a stylish place to have a drink.
C. M.
Pretty hipster place but fun, quirky, 4 different bars, decent music, a dance floor and pretty reasonable prices (especially for Brighton)
P. W.
Average cocktails (which is all we had). Food looked good from what we saw.
L. R.
Nice décor and layout, fantastic live band. Drinks slightly pricey but good service.
W. P.
I went there a few years ago... I think it was when Ross came down and it was quite cool but now it's a bit meh.
T. P.
A traditional pub in the Laines with live bands and jazz dancing. No parties of 5 or over on jazz nights so split up to get in.
l. w.
Great cocktails...great bar
L. S.
Long way up to roof top bar not for anyone with walking or breathing difficulties but such a cute little hide away..x
J. S.
We stopped by for a drink on a Bank Holiday weekend; all was fine and we'd definitely return next time we're in Brighton.
I. R.
Lovely drinks and a great atmosphere, boosted by the fantastic swing band playing.
J. B.
Nicely decorated and great music. The cocktails are good and reasonably priced too!
A. H.
Good selection of cask and craft beers
T. D.
A very nice atmosphere and quite a unique looking place. Good for a drink with a friend.
N. K.
Great food, huge portions, relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff
K. L.
Bar staff sarcastically rude. Otherwise bangers and mash cover band hired for Xmas Eve was delightful
D. G.
Great range of cocktails on offer with friendly staff who will make you custom offerings or ones not on the menu
L. S.
Fantastic food, generous portions. Definitely would recommend and would go again.
S. t. I.
I like this place in the daytime when it is quiet, it's nice and spacious and the decor is really interesting. Far too crowded in the evening however
L. B.
Good atmosphere, nice menu, convenient position on The Lanes. Would recommend.
S. R.
Great pub with good service and delicious cocktails 😁
D. S.
Nice interior and good beers. Apparently there's a roof garden but it was booked out when I tried to get up there
J.
Good funky vibe. Nice place for a drink and dance. A good mixed crowd
l. b.
Great cocktails, they might look pricey but the value for money is good as they are great quality ingredients and strong !!
D. E.
Perfect place where you can dance all night long. Great beer and cocktails.
K. S.
It's one of the places what is open late at the weekend. Really nice atmosphere.
J. L.
Really good live music here.
H. P.
Nice place good staff ,good music ,well decorated it is kinda pricey but that’s because you don’t pay to get in
M. W.
Excellent warren-like seating upstairs. Dancefloor too small and music just a pinch to loud downstairs.
H. B.
Guy who worked at the bar made the best old fashion I had in a while, really good old music that suits the decoration, can't wait to visit again.
t. l.
Great night out
I. C.
A really nice pub. When I visited they had an amazing live band playing.
D. u.
Good place to chill and have a drink and food. The fish and chips was lovely

M. G.
Nice pub, but one should avoid if you are looking for the "usual" English food.
K. D.
Come here on a Friday or Saturday night for some dancing and drinks. Really fun, but is obviously hard to have conversations with the music.
R. T.
One of my favourite bars, the bar staff are phenomenonal and the decor is perfect!
L. S.
Great pub for all ages. Great eclectic mix of music and great atmosphere.
K. A.
Accommodated a party of 21 at really short notice. Great service, tasty food and reasonable prices.

Really quirky place and cracking choice in drink and staff are mighty friendly

Sadly I only found this pub on my phone too late I missed John Crampton playing there. Place looks great!
L. M.
Food is very good, and huge portion sizes!
M. L.
Good at night with live music and a crowd. Otherwise an overpriced place in the lanes which clearly spent plenty to look more authentic than it is.
L. P.
Friendly staff, ordering website is a bit rubbish but everything else was great.
B. N.
Cool pub, pretty crowded sometimes. I like the small upstairs room.
J. P.
Good nite out
