I love it here. Bohemian type decor. Great selection of drinks and good quantity, especially the cider. Staff very pleasant and friendly. Chorizo and white Spanish bean stew, delicious.

100% warm welcome and a hearty Sunday roast. Very characteristic inside, and yet a fuss-free approach, ideal for the conclusion of a coastal walk. Exemplary Covid protection measures, too, given the government's release of responsibility.

Delicious Sunday Lunch. We had veggie sausages, pork belly and beef in our group and all were yum with crispy roast potatoes, a big Yorkshire pud, lots of gravy and nice veggies.
Good friendly service, a traditional victorian style pub ambiance and well maintained. Relaxed. Car park right opposite £1 per hr
J. J.
Lovely traditional pub with a warm welcome. The gin selection is particularly good
M. W.
Great pub. Fantastic Sunday roast. All are available as half portions (see photo) which was more than enough for me and only cost £6! Highly recommended.
R. H.
Fantastic food, lovely staff, amazing selection of booze, the perfect pub
(which is marvellously managed)
UPDATE - Just had the loveliest afternoon, wonderful roast, wonderful hosts, thank you Queen Vic xx
G. R.
Wonderful hosts and a good menu and drinks selection. I'm definitely planning a return visit over the summer.
R. R.
Fabulous pub, great food and excellent atmosphere
M. P.
Bit chilly but good food, good pub, quick and easy table service app.
P. R.
Great Sunday roast! We had the roast chicken for 2 and it was amazing. Really nice back garden area, too
J. B.
Relaxing place with ambient feel, roaring fire to welcome you. Food just superb a half roast was plenty too!! Pleased to say ethical with energy like water/food straws composted
S. C.
What a lovely place so friendly and quirky place so old you can feel the history.
If the walls could talk
Thankyou for a perfect cider
A. B.
Traditional English pub with lovely old fashioned tables, chairs and decor. Tasty menu and good selection of ale. Helpful staff. Dog friendly. Toilets could use some work but otherwise felt comfortable and relaxed. Much bigger inside than it appears from the front!
J. L.
Decent pub, lovely decor. But very pricey. London prices for booze.
The vegan options for Sunday roast are great but it would be nice to have extra potato's and veg to make up for the missing yorkshire pudding on the meaty options... The vegan option do come up a fair bit smaller but are the same price.
They are very nice though, but would like a bit more for the money.

A well presented and quirky pub right by the sea and with ample parking opposite, I went with some family for a meal on the Pie and Tipple evening. We were well looked after by our waiter and barman, and enjoyed a varied selection of both local and more exotic beers and ales. The vegan option on the menu, my choice, was delicious. Although we didn't touch it ourselves, their spirits selection looked ample with a variety of names I knew and a few I didn't. Will definitely be back for another visit in the future.

Nice pub, friendly staff, great decor and tasty, interesting food. Only issue is that - in spite of all the pumps - this place is very frequently under stocked with only one or two beers on. If they had the full range of beers more often, I'd probably give 5 stars.
J. J.
Great Pies, packed full of filling.
Infact, I've never had with so much filling. You can taste the quality of the meat too. Great selection of drinks; particularly gins. 5 stars.
A. G.
Fab pub. Lovely landlords who welcomed us and our dog. Exceptional drinks menu. Highly recommended.
j. c.
Dramatic presentation. Attentive host. Nice selection of beer and whisky. Worth a visit.

The food is simply first class. My partner and I stumbled across this place looking for some midday lunch. My other half is gluten free and vegetarian, so in most pubs it's practically impossible to find anything. This pub had 4 gluten free vegetarian options! We choose two of them to share which were delicious - freshly prepared and healthy with lots of imagination. I would say the best vegetarian food we've eat in a pub. The tea was loose leaf also which was a bonus - again, quite rare for a pub. It seemed like there was a vintage theme going on which was fun and quirky. So overall an amazing experience and we plan to return.

Absolutely loved this pub, quaint and beautiful decorations.
M. R.
This was our first outing post-Covid and we had a great time..the staff were super attentive, we felt completely safe and although the menu was very limited, the food was lovely! Can't wait to go again!!
D. G.
Excellent food and beer. Plenty of options if you don't want meat. I liked the decor. It felt like a proper pub rather than a manufactured chain pub. My wife said if we lived locally then it would be our local.
J. D.
Beautiful old traditional pub with great beer and exceptionally friendly staff. A real pleasure. If you're going for a walk along the seafront, make a tiny diversion up to this pub when going through Rottingdean, it really is worth it. The food looked great too.
G. B.
Good value if not the most opulent Sunday roasts. Nice beers on tap and friendly service. Interior probably not to everyone's taste but I really appreciated the feel of the pub.
J. C.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly and accommodating staff, delicious food. However, despite our booking being early on a Friday evening various dishes were sold out and portion sizes are tiny. Some of our party went home hungry despite having a pudding.

Stayed over the road.. 1st time to the area we popped in for drink.. wow what a warm welcome with a Gin menu to die for .. served by a nice chap who helped me we my selection.. & I wasn't disappointed.. I had silent pool ... simply delicious.. my husband had an ale again throughly enjoyed it. Because we felt so welcomed we booked a table for Saturday night again the chap was talking to us about the menu.
After trekking the seven sisters.. we were looking forward to our meal .. we started with Two silent pool G&T's.. yummy and ordered the toad in the hole ..it didn't disappoint..
Simply scrummy.. with bubble and squeak and Gravy.. 10 out 10 .. with a gorgeous bottle of wine ..we spoke to one of the landlord's who was extremely friendly and chatty ..
Thanks for our experience and Meal
Would recommend and go back

Lovely local pub with friendly staff and a decent selection of beer - when it’s available, they are often out of stock. Amazing gin selection and home cooked food.
S. J.
Really nice old time slow village pub with a decent selection of ales and beers and the 'Gin Menu', which features more gins than you can shake a stick at along with recommended mixers and accoutrements. Very good food too
D. B.
Beer is ok, sticky tables though and quite shabby, it feels uncared for and was pretty empty by about 9 on a Saturday. Rottingdean has 5 pubs so there's a lot of competition and some of the others are much more welcoming...
J. P.
Proper pub with a decent selection of changing ales. Friendly staff with a "can do" attitude. Stone floors and wooden beams make this an authentic village boozer in the delightful Rottingdean. Prices weren't an issue either. Was only going to stop in for one, but ended up there for at least 3 ring with customers and staff alike. Can't remember the name (might be Emma) of the young lady who served me, but was quite the best example of how to run a bar and interact with customers. Keep hold of her, landlord / landlady!
D. G.
Watch out! The Sunday roast portions are massive. And it gets a bit cold in the winter. Probably due to the medieval stylings... Good local beer selection though... And very nice staff
G. A.
Very Ye Olde. Great food. Great service from staff
C. N.
Great little pub. Good selection of beer/lager/wines/spirits. Menu is relatively small but top, top quality and staff are very friendly and helpful.
B. L.
Table wasn't cleared of the previous occupant's dirty plates and I was there an hour. My Guinness was served with the largest head and shortest measure I've ever seen. Besides those it was a nice pub
A. F.
I love my Gin and they had a decent selection to try and the guy serving actually knows what he is talking about when telling you about them, very enthusiastic too.Worth a visit just to drink Gin.We didn't eat but will return to do so as the food menu looked very appealing with local produce on offer.
J. R.
Popped in for a pub meal on a Friday evening and had the best ribeye steak ever!! And the triple cooked jacket potato was scrummy, even the watercress with dressing tasted wonderful. And the pudding and cheese were first class too. Truly fine dining in a friendly pub.
B. D.
Charming barstaff, who were courteous and receptive to courtesy.
The overall impression of the pub is very positive, and nicely appointed.
However, this 4 star experience loses at least one star (and arguably should be two!) due to the, at best, sour, but potentially rude and passive aggressive nature of the elder man behind the bar at certain points.
Maybe, smile.
Maybe, be polite.
Maybe, treat your customers better than that noxious, brown substance on the bottom of your shoe.
Or, rethink working in hospitality.
S. S.
Nice and cosy pub with some good ales and a warming fire..
D. F.
Atmospheric. Not the largest selection of beer, but the ones they served were well taken cared of. Very large gin selection though. Worth visiting even from Brighton.
S. S.
Cosy pub, we liked the quiet Jazz music in the background, we had the Wednesday special steak meal - top quality & excellent value, friendly staff. Would definately go back - thanks for a pleasant evening guys!
M. M.
Very friendly girl behind bar even though I managed to spill my half pint of cider all down behind the bar disk onto clean dishes and floor. Even got a new drink! Nice selection of gin, aswell.
S. B.
What a difference a year makes. Vast improvement. The pub is full of character. I personally drink Guinness, l must say that it is the finest Guinness for miles.
P. M.
Great pub, great atmosphere and brilliant selection of beers. Food menu looks great and must try soon. Recent visits have been for Long Blonde only though!
D. C.
Good. Bit of a wait for Sunday roast and dessert ran out. But roast tasted great.
Dessert (brownies) rather small for £5.
But nice place to eat and nice staff
J. M.
Great pub. Nice staff, interesting beer selection and a great roast. Roasts have a half portion option, which is very generous and a excellent value.
C. B.
Excellent beer, great food, and a landlord who really means it. I only wish I had more time and energy to go through the gin menu. Mind you: it is only a few seconds stagger from the No.12 bus stop
p. k.
We couldn't of been made more welcome, a charming pub with charming staff. the food supplied was superb and was very reasonably priced all cooked to order and locally sourced. We plan on many return visits.
R. M.
Fabulous place. Amazing lighting. Great beer (not only your normal stuff). Staff absolutely charming. Very professional but still very friendly. Cannot speak more highly of the place.
S. M.

Went here with a group of us of mixed ages and told by a very rude manager / owner that as it was Sunday we would have to leave if we were not eating as he wanted the space for people having lunch .....we will go to the black horse in future as we had been told before about staff there.
