They have a new enthusiast manager who is friendly and was very helpful with looking after my elderly father with dementia. His flexibility was much appreciated … and the quality and standard of food superb for the price. Look forward to returning!

Not the best stonehouse restaurant/pub we've been to. We went for breakfast and the fried bread was over done. Plus there was no breakfast pizza or tomatoes... Every other one I've been to does it? Staff were friendly. Toilets required some tlc, the floor was uneven, had puddled water and the vinyl was coming away from the edges on the floor.

FAO Paul, Having been impressed with the fact that you take the time to reply to views, we concluded from this that you clearly care. So, today my family of five, travelled from Epsom in Surrey to try out your carvery. We were not disappointed. You were at the door to greet us even though it’s a Sunday AND Father’s Day too! The restaurant was clean, the service prompt, the chef very friendly and nice to talk to and the food very tasty. You’re never going to please everyone but you pleased us, thank you. So keep doing what you’re doing because you’re doing a great job. We will definitely be back. Best wishes, Debbie & family

We come here at least twice a month and never have a issue. We’re always greeted with Dina’s smiling face. And made to feel welcome by the wonderful staff. The food is always brilliant and we always manage to leave feeling stuffed! Would definitely recommend here over a Toby any day of the week! You won’t regret it :)

Our server, Aaron, was super helpful to our party of 8. He is very friendly and is a credit behind the bar. I was very impressed with the way he knew many of the names of the customers, and was even able to advise 3 gentlemen that only the carvery was available. He apologised profusely; but we were all happy as that was what we had come for. Very enjoyable, very friendly, and a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Very enjoyable lunch. I took my disabled sister. We were immediately helped at the entrance by a kind gentleman who opened doors for us and helped us to table. The carvery had an amazing choice of vegetables and was piping hot. To top it all we had a discount on our bill as well. Staff exceptionally friendly. Our only disappointment was we didnt have enough room for pudding. Will certainly visit again

Have picked up a few Too Good To Go bags from here that were always amazing so finally decided to go for the full experience and was met with friendly staff and lovely food. We had a discount and ended up only paying £15 for three of us to have a carvery and a drink which was an absolute bargain. The chef was lovely and even gave me an extra yorkshire pudding! Left full and happy, will definitely be coming again.

As an M&B Group property this one is a Stonehouse Grill and Carvery. Very good it is too ! Food is well cooked,plentiful and an excellent choice of veg sides if you choose Carvery. Drinks are as you would expect for this brand very sensibly priced. On our visit 5pm Tuesday,the property was very clean and tidy and tables were cleared within decent timeframe. I've heard its prudent to book for Sunday's though. All in all very good value.

Despite bing very short staff they were very polite and friendly to deal with. I understand that some things were of the menu and that can not be help. The staff at the sportsman did a great job in serving me and my family with delicious food with a great selection of veg. As this was our first visit and we were looking forward to having the Roast Dinner. Tom our waiter carefully went through all the additional items available, and option to have a £2 dessert instead of paying £4.79+. The slow cooked roast beef was so tender … highly recommended and our choice of the desserts were so good. My friend and I will definitely be returning to the Sportsman, good value and friendly and helpful staff.

Okay good value very cheap so cannot complain .Had to remind chef to bring over pigs in blankets arrived end of my meal .Also had to explain to waitress/bar person what treacle was ooh dear never mind . There was also a children's party that got going towards the end of the meal .It was extremely noisey .Not being a parent myself I didn't know little children guessing 6 or 7 could make that amount of noise .I found it a bit to much but there parents didn't seem to notice so maybe it's because I am not used to it .

This restaurant is by far one of the better quality carvery's that I've experienced for a long time! Upcoming restaurant that I use regularly now. The staff are super friendly especially the management and lower management. Louise is especially helpful friendly and can't do enough. I certainly would recommend this place for an eatery and drinking tenfold.

My first time visiting The Sportsman and I was not disappointed. The manager Paul greeted us with a smile. My husband and I both had the carvery and drinks, the meat was cooked to perfection and the roast potatoes were delicious and crispy. Staff very friendly. Definitely recommended.

You get what you pay for. Carvery is better than the breakfast. Went last week for carvery and there was a really good selection of vegetables and meat cooked well. The breakfast is a bit hit and miss but more on the miss side these days. Bacon is normally flabby and anaemic on the odd occasion cooked well. And sausages can sometimes be anaemic also. Their sausages used to be lovely but at some point the have definitely changed whether it be brand or the sausage recipe changed.

Carvery was tasty, seating wasnt brilliant as we were seated in the main walk through where there are two tables opposite each other, had to keep moving ours chairs everytime people walked through or got up from opposite table.. a bit annoying when you are trying to eat, lighting in that area not good either. But dont be put off.. there are other tabes by windows, food is good apart from using frozen veg! .(carrots) staff are friendly and its reasonabe cost. Suggest one of these tables are moved to allow more room.

Still the best value place I know of in Brighton. Had buffet breakfast today and unlimited tea/coffee, and really enjoyed it, everything well cooked and clean. The teabags are PG tips, and the coffee is grindhouse, which is so smooth and enjoyable I would go back for that. Very clean, much better than I ever remember it being about 4x years ago before it changed ownership.

Spent the early evening here (6-7 30pm) after visiting Brighton to see friends and walk around town shopping. This is the first time here, on entry looked clean and spacious. Ordered at the bar and got given a table buzzer as the 6 of us had pizzas, burgers and kids meals off the menu. Initial order experience was great, even checked with the kitchen ref an allergy. We waited and waited for the buzzer to buzz. In the end we found a waitress and got our food from the pizza bay hot plate. All served separately with the youngest child's order some 8 mins after the initial plate was delivered. Spoke to the manager and got sorted very quickly. All in all, a very good experience. The children's play area has clearly had a few naughty children writing on the walls recently. Note to make this better, check if your clients have been before and help them out in where to collect food, cutlery and sauces if not getting the carvery. Would have scored a 5 if the food had come out together. Will come back next time in Brighton.

I live in Worthing but when I do come down to Brighton this is my first choice of pub/restaurant to come to. Love the food menu the carvery and pizzas is delicious. Love the clean bright modern look to the building inside. The manager Paul is such a nice guy as he is new doing such amazing job. We've always loved the Carvery at The Sportsman but the thing that really makes our meals there is how accommodating the staff are. Tonight we needed a Beyond Burger with Carvery veg and many extra Yorkshire puddings for my autistic daughter. Nicole, our server, and the Carvery staff helped us out with a smile and made it all feel so easy. Highly recommended!

Started great , carvery was amazing ! However we decided to order desserts through the app and ended up waiting 40 minutes for them. We spoke to waitress and they brought out one badly presented sundae with wasn’t even half full or how it was pictured compared to the later one that arrived. Definitely not worth the price. We asked where the other two desserts were and she said ‘oh it’s probably under a massive pile of tickets’ and laughed it off but didn’t go and find them for us. So I asked a different waitress and she was very apologetic and offered us a refund and brought them out straight away, well presented and worth the money.

OMG today was amazing! Took one of my daughters special needs kids out for lunch at the Sportsman. The staff couldn't be anymore helpful and friendly towards us, even when I asked if I could take the gammon trimmings home for my pooches. We purchased one fish and chips and two carveries to eat in and one carvery to take home. The beef was amazing, which is difficult when kept on a hot plate! Thank you so much to Lou and the two girls (one with blue hair and one with magenta/red hair), and of course, the chef, who made our experience comfortable, friendly and very tasty.

Much quieter than anticipated which was lovely. No queue for food (carvery) despite last minute booking and arriving at 5.30pm. We were greeted by Nicole - couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. My partner - who works as a restaurant senior - noticed that Nicole was constantly on the go whether behind the bar, greeting diners, checking on food or clearing tables etc. Hands down the busiest staff member we saw all night and all with a smile.

In recent years this place has been great for food and atmosphere. I visited here tonight after 2 years and it was not a great experience at all. I ordered a traditional carvery. The Yorkshire Puddings were lovely and that was the only nice part about it. The “roast” potatoes was extremely undercooked to the point of which you could not bite through them. They had the same texture as raw potatoes and was overall just plain dangerous to serve in a buffet due to the extreme undercookedness of them. The peas were so undercooked that it was like popping popcorn in your mouth. The beef was EXTREMELY fatty and was impossible to actually eat. I felt quite upset due to not actually being able to eat anything I paid for. The manager Paul is lovely and agreed with me and rectified my issue within seconds, Paul asked me to come back again soon to give the place a second chance and to which I am fully willing to do, thank you Paul for dealing with the problem quickly and effectively.

We booked out the locker room for a 40th wedding anniversary for 30 people. The food was amazing, the staff were amazing and the facilities where great. It was well worth the money!

I would highly recommend to anyone who’s never had any carveries at this place before. The food tastes so good and you can even come for a Sunday roast. A solid 4/5 - docking one star only because of the staleness of the Yorkshires even when arriving within the hour of the breakfast - dinner changeover (still taste nice though). But this place is a regular go to for me for a cheap, quick delicious meal and i've been a few times now since covid, including for breakfast which is great.... an all you you want to eat for a very reasonable price. The main carvery is also delicious with great service, drinks and good precautions against Covid. My partner regularly has the calzones commenting that the meat and carvery calzones are really good too.

Great food, brilliant offers all week we had the 2 for 1 on pizza and burgers yesterday. One of our group had the vegan nut roast she said it was one of the best she had eaten. Friendly staff good location with the park and ride on the same plot.

Delicious... I was so eager to dig into my full breakfast from the breakfast buffet that I forgot to take a photo! My ONLY critique is that they use canned tomatoes instead of fresh. This breakfast is already quite inexpensive, so even if they had to raise the price £1-£2 to do make this change, it'd be worth every extra penny. We paid £12 ish for 2 people on the buffet, and refillable coffee and tea. Absolutely worth it. Plus we got to sit and watch a sports day going on at the stadium behind the restaurant... Bonus entertainment for an early morning!

I have been coming here regularly for the last few years for breakfast and the carvery. Always very nice but recently it has been refurbished and changed name. I Like the decor came in couple of weeks ago for the carvery which was very nice, but the breakfasts I find disappointing now. I myself love scrambled egg as I do not like runny yolk and this is no longer an option it's only fried eggs now which I don't even think are fried in oil whereas they used to be very disappointed.

Nice pub showing sports on TVs throughout the venue and offering a great choice of food and drinks at reasonable prices. We sat in the main bar area which had plenty of seating, only downside is that the TV screens aren't that big and the sound could be louder. We ordered a variety of hot snacks from the menu which were all fine although the chicken strips were a bit on the crunchy side. Free parking outside was a bonus

This place ticks all the boxes. It is not only a place for pizzas and carvery as the name suggests but it provides a resonably priced breakfast option from 08:00-11:30 where you can fill your boots on as much bacon, eggs, hash brown, sausages, fried bread, beans, tomatoes and toast as you can. A great start to the day.

Clean upscale chain with great value prices and and BT sport to watch football/rugby matches. With any purchase of food your can even even help yourself to as many sides that you desire like chips, beans and peas as well as sauces which would certainly cost extra in most other pubs. They also have a dessert counter so for whatever pudding you have, you have the option of putting toppings like coco pops and fruit droppings as well as pour on top your favourite sauces like chocolate😏, strawberry, lemon and toffee. Although it is mainly for the unlimited ice cream, your still allowed to put this on your desserts regardless😋. Only downside to this place is that the atmosphere can be a bit cold usually and too spaced out - meaning you don't really get that 'cosiness' that much but I guess if you come for just the 'shoveling your grub'😂 part, I guess its alright
