Reviews of Ye Olde King & Queen Brighton
D. W.
I love this pub. Such and old building. It is a huge place but feels so comfy. The food is good too.
F. P.
Great staff, decent beer selection and my food came out promptly. There's an excellent spread of screens for watching sport, as well as a wide range of seating options from big sofas to easy-to-move little stools.
I. B.
Me and my daughter loved this pub! We were like two 70 year old men in our favourite seat! Great staff, and I think I drank all their Brixton lager!!!
J. f.
Great place for drinks and staff nights out. Drinks are reasonable priced only six minutes from train station
S. M.
Smashing Pub ,full of atmosphere, loved the massive screen for the football. The Pub is like stepping back in time how it's done out. Pictures of Kings and Queens on the wall. And the furniture and settings is Brilliant. Will definitely go there again when I visit Brighton again !
T.
What a venue, its huge, popular and looks like a very historical pub. You could fit another pub in the outdoor space they have its truly great, equipped with heaters and lots of bench seating.
Highly recommended if you are visiting Brighton.
S. B.
Great sports pub! Lots of space, lots of TVs and projectors. The building architecture and history was pretty cool too. The two local beers we tried were a bit meh, but that's not their fault. Also, on the busy sports day, it smelled a lot like man sweat...but again, not their fault, lol!
T. D. G.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, met some welcoming locals. Went to watch football match, the pub was full but there was very visable security at the door keeping track of numbers and inside the pub, felt very safe.we had a fab time
G. A.
Great place to get out of the rain. Whilst being huge with plenty of room, it still manages to be cosy. Can highly recommend the Nachos, well worth the price. With great bar staff and amazing food, it's definitely due another visit soon.
G. B.
Great for watching football and good atmosphere. Only a slight question as I got charged 2 different prices for same drink by different staff but not worried about 10p
P. H.
Amazing decor, very good food, reasonably priced
P. C.
Lovely old pub with big screens for the football and also showed the F1 on smaller screens two cocktails for a tenner. Bloody Mary was poor at best basically a vodka and tomato juice
S.
Only popped in for a coffee but loved the size and decor so old wooden loved it
K. W.
Great pub always has a good atmosphere. Good prices on 2 cocktails and friendly bar staff.
c. g.
Love this place. I didn't stayed for long time, its huge bar with poker and pool. Its 80s interior and private party room on upstairs
A. S.
Great pub! Good prices and good drink selection. Only issue is the toilets are dirty and should be cleaned more often
W. d. G.
Nice and big pub. They've got good food and lots of drinks. Big screens for sports as well
R. K.
I was amazed theis pub interior.
n. t.
Huge, old fashioned, interesting pub lots of games, staff nice, great courtyard. So many different rooms, lots of staircases, a great experience.
J. f.
Nice big bustling pub, good beers, nice staff, great atmosphere, would recommend
L. G.
Nice venue, bar staff need to up their game though. Customers shouldn't be served on a who-shouts-loudest basis.
M. p. t.
Very solid pub, decent prices, nice seating, great atmosphere.
c. g.
Stag do for me nef beers where cheap shots never ended lol
V. P.
Staff friendly, only had nice drinks but other's food looked good. Alas on afternoon/evening we went a bit busy so lengthy wait. Nice atmosphere.
G. H.
Popped in here on a Wednesday night for a few ciders and cocktails, i quite liked the history behind this place, tho ot could use a little tlc here and there. Sat outside where you can smoke if you like. Nice staff good prices
J. M.
Very busy Saturday evening. Great atmosphere. Well mannered security.
P. O.
roomy pub in brighton, close to old steine <3
you can enjoy watching football or boxing etc through the big screen! nostalgic music is playing which definitely take you back lol
they have large and comfortable smoking area (garden) with even a small tv in the corner. so you can still enjoy watching the game! i really love the architecture of the pub :)
m. w.
60th birthday well catered for by staff nice big pub friendly staff
L. A.
Went here for a private function. It was absolutely packed out in the actual pub.
c. k.
Handy if ur a smoker, good coffee too
V. P.

Huge, old fashioned, interesting pub lots of games, staff nice, great courtyard. So many different rooms, lots of staircases, a great experience.
L. W.
What I call a pub pub! Miss these kind of pubs. Great range of beer on tap
M. Z.
Great place, very big always a table, good prices. Has a very unique vintage architecture
J. P.
Very large pub with a courtyard. All table service due to covid. Drinks arrived quickly. The toilets were disgusting, even though the pub was quiet.
L. T.
Lovely pub and easy to access. Drinks were good but starters are a little bit on the expensive side. Overall a lovely place to meet friends for a pint!
P. C.
Good pub. Enjoyed my visit ☺️
L. A.
Went here for a private function. It was absolutely packed out in the actual pub.
A. D.
Nice old pub, lovely staff. OK for a drink before the match
m. w.
60th birthday well catered for by staff nice big pub friendly staff
S. M.
Good for sports, with a couple of huge screens, but only one bitter gets a thumbs down from me 👎
S. L.
Nice big pub,friendly staff,not expensive
D. I.
Big pub, great for football nights, but that's pretty much it. The beer selection isn't amazing and the hugeness of the pub makes it a bit uncomfortable compared to the cosiness of smaller bars.
I. U.
Perfect pub for watch sports, several tv also in the outside area. You can hold the table as long as you want. Couples of pool tables and a couple of football tables too.
V. G.
Amazing places with plenty seats ! Large selection of food and drinks. Nice garden l. I recommend !
S. L.
Very good. friendly and fast service. But not taking reservations from tomorrow so queue system. I think its a mistake from a customer experience point of view.
Y. J.
Eaten here before. Went for lunch on Friday couldn't believe they had no fish on the menu. Lovely building. Friendly staff. One problem for me no disabled loo and LADIES loo upstairs.
V. P.
Sports bar with huge projector and lots of seating options, multiple pool tables and a friendly atmosphere
R.
Sat in outside garden area covered by lovely pergolas & surrounded by pretty borders decorated with Begonias, New Guinea Impatiens, Sweet Williams etc. Had to queue briefly & follow Covid regulations (face mask, sanitise hands, scan NHS Covid app on entering) although got sat quickly at table of choice. Atmosphere vibrant without being too noisy. Scanned pub's code to activate menu & order / pay for food /drink. Ordered classic 6oz burger, salad & chips which came quickly with fresh red onion, sliced toms in a soft brioche bap; very tasty. Toilets available inside but didn't use. Staff very courteous.
L. W.
What I call a pub pub! Miss these kind of pubs. Great range of beer on tap
T. R.
Sports bar, fantastic old building.
V. C.
Bouncers were quite rude to everyone entering the building. The lighting was very dark and the place was loud so it's hard to talk to people. The table is sticky and disgusting. The bar closes surprisingly early considering lots of students go to this place. Alcohol was cheap which was the only plus.
J. B.
Food is fab, staff are friendly, drinks are good. Can't beat good value for money! Or beat a great pub!
R. A.
Friendly staff clean glasses good prices.
Have no complaints
O. G.
Took a while to get in, however drinks are cheaper than most other bars.
G. N.
Great pub, lovely architecture and fab interior. Decent for watching the football and the Waitress/barmaid from Sunny Govan was very pleasant and helpful
T. W.
The venue is large and quite a nice place to be however service was struggling to cope with table service of everyone on a particularly busy evening. Also a 45 minute wait to get into the pub, however, bouncers were very friendly and good to talk to.
G. W.
Big bar with lots of seating, interior is set up like a medieval hall
L. S.
Went for lunch here and all of us had a lovely meal which was great value. Really good service too.
l. o.
Great atmosphere, a lot of screens for sports. Efficient and friendly service. Authentic theme, pool tables, table football and relatively good price. Good and spacious smoking area. However there was a lack of cleanliness as there were customers dirty glasses and plates were left on the table.
A. G.
Pool table arcade pinball and lovely food what more can you
J. p. L.
Great looking pub with loads of space. Pool table and sports on must of the time.
A. E.
So, where do we start with this pub?
I think we start with saying that this is the cheapest pub outside of a wetherspoons in Brighton. The outdoor area is huge and perfect for social distancing. I'd like to give a shoutout to the bar staff who are amazing and I wish I knew the guys name who welcomed us to give him a shoutout. He explained the track and trace system and how the bar worked on entry and was actually funny. It's nice to spend under a tenner for two pints in Brighton so maybe 8.25 stars out of 10 would be more appropriate. The reason this place hasn't gained 5/5 from me is it isn't perfect. The venue itself feels odd and the vibe is hard to discern. There was no music outside (I was there at 3pm) and it would have been nice to have something to break the silence.
All in all, nice pub, cheap beer, great outdoor space, slightly off vibe.
N. E.
Good beer, food good and great location
B. M.
Lovely vintage looking pub with huge screens, perfect for watching sports
S. B.
Best place to watch the football (or any sports really) new menu is good! Staff is always nice!
c. k.
Handy if ur a smoker, good coffee too
o. l.
Good facilities decent price nice karaoke
M. K.
Amazing historical place. Delicious plates. Just perfect.
G. B.
Top venue. Awful food.
n. p.
Good pub for watching sport.Huge pub, with loads of seating areas and a beer garden.Food was good and reasonably priced.Used this pub regularly on our visits to Brighton.
D. P.
Great building in a great location. However, very uncomfortable seating (I have a bad back) and a woeful lack of real ales. Only one option and it was either the very end of the barrel or there's another problem. Worst pint of Harvey's I ever tasted. But if you love larger and football you'll love it.
H. S.
I went here with a few friends and had a nice night out. It was warm so we sat in the large beer garden! it was very nice and spacious but noisy because of the other groups around us. The drinks were reasonably priced and they played current chart music inside on the Saturday I was there so I had a gooooood time
T. M.
A very delightful pub. Their selection of beers, ciders and spirits is surprising, the employees very kind. The old style, the bar games, the familiar enviroment and the cheap prices make this place one of my favourites not only in Brighton but in all the countries that I visited.
J. P.
Very big pub with lots of seating. It’s often busy and they play some good music; but not too loud so you can still have a conversation. The prices are a bit high compared to other pubs unless they have a special going on.
L. C.
Massive pub that's got huge round tables for groups or small corners if there's only two of you. Well priced drinks and lots of offers (student night etc). The food is pretty standard & lots of variety. If you like sport then there's two giant screens and TVs dotted around but make sure you get in early otherwise you'll be queuing outside to get in. If sports not your thing then I'd go somewhere else when there's something on, as you won't be able to hear anything else!
R. Y.
Saturday afternoon Farley busy but staff we're good
i. b.
Good place to go for drinks before a night out on the town.
R. W.
Back to normal opening hours since lockdown ended, you must give contact details for track and trace. This is one of Brightons best known pubs built in the 1930s in a mock Tudor style, there has been a pub on this site since 1860 when a farmhouse was converted to an inn. The pub serves a selection of food and drinks with friendly efficient staff especially Mark the proprietor. There is plenty of room here to maintain social distancing and it has outside seating in the courtyard.
B. M.
Large pub set within a beautiful Tudor building. Drink deals available throughout means the pub has a good mix of young/student punters as well as an older crowds which creates a good atmosphere. There is a large outside area, a couple off private function areas and pool tables/arcade machines. Overall great pub!
B. P.
One of the best pubs I've been to
C. W.
Beautiful pub with lots of seating indoor and outdoor, has a pool table and lots of other entertainment machines. Food portions were massive, if you're in need of filling up head here!
H. H.
its a nice place, good vibe and all of that. I bought a pitcher and im pretty sure it was £20 and now im skint
S. B.
Great service, wonderful atmosphere, large spaces.
C. A.
Great pub to watch football in. Great atmosphere, friendly service & fit barmaids. What more can you want other than a nice pint which this place does as well.
Let's talk about 6 baby! Boom!
A. S.
Wonderful place, the decoration is amazing, every day of the week you've got drinks deal.
The outside is really large with some tables with heaters. Just as a warning the weekend it's completely packed on the evening and same thing on sport events
Z. C.
Old school pub - equally busy with students and regulars. They have good drink deals throughout the week, and is a massive place so theres always somewhere to sit. Awesome place to go and watch sport as well.
F. M. S.
King and Queen is a proper studenty pub most of the time, I took my Dad there once and he has ever since referred to it as "the sticky floor pub". They do really amazing drinks deals through the week and you can usually find a nice big table for big groups of friends either inside or in the big smoking area. When there are no drinks deals on then it is a bit overpriced for beer but not much more than expected for Central Brighton, I reccomend looking up when deals are on if you are looking for value for money. Even though its a bit of a sports bar, the actual building itself is so beautiful, especially.. check out the old balcony in the garden, even if you wouldn't usually go outside. Good pub for big groups and a 'going out' atmosphere on busy nights, there are also games.. Pool, air hockey etc..
B. C.
Very nice, traditional-style pub with a great selection of beer at decent prices. Plenty of TV screens to watch the football and plenty of space so more than likely to get somewhere to sit down.
C. W.
Great little pub, unfortunately the drinks are a tiny bit expensive when there isn't a student deal on and they have a minimum card spend just over the cost of one drink so you end up drinking two. The venue is lovely and has a cool old quirky feel to the place and a nice outdoor seating area
t. a.
Great place. Expensive beer, but for central Brighton get over it! Lovely atmosphere and good mix of students / adults on varying nights of the week. Cracking on match day too
P. P. 2.
Good food, value for money good pool tables & live sports massive garden
J. M.
Good service and friendly staff. Have been several times.
A. W.
Easily the best pub in Brighton to watch any sporting events however this is also their flaw. It can get really difficult to get to the bar when it's mega busy... My advice is to buy 2 rounds at a time 😊
Can also be difficult to get seats but this just shows how popular it really is.
J. G.
Great pub nice pint great history
A. M.
Truly amazing experience on first sight I truly love the mixture of medievel and modern bought to life in this place. It has a Tudor courtyard and a heaven and all the trappings of an interesting night out. The menu looks very appetising and the choice of beers from around the world was excellent. The bar staff were very helpful in choosing my drink which made the experience well worth it. Well done ye old kings & queens.
M. B.
3 pools tables, 2 retro foosball tables, a arcade machine table (10 pages with 6 games per page). Reasonable priced food and drink and a cool atmosphere. Castle feeling and with modern touches in the right places 👍. Definitely coming back if I'm around.
D. t. C. M.
Coming from Australia this is what I would expect an old English pub to look like. Great feel, nice staff good range of beers and spirits. I'm sure the locals love it but if your a traveller it's a must to pop in.
C. C.
The King and Queen holds a special place in my heart, not only for its affordable drinks and friendly atmosphere. The decor here is incredible and classic, service is fantastic and will serve you as quickly as possible. The place is teeming with life and there's something for everyone in this local hub of activity.
B. M.
This pub is always a good bet when you have a large group due to the size. Music is pretty good and prices are reasonable. Last time I checked they did have a £5 card limit which is a little annoying. Music can be quite loud as well so it isn't always easy to talk.
A. H.
What a fantastic building and so interesting, even the ladies toilets are so Brighton! Sadly when we visited when the football was on TV so we couldn't talk to each other as volume was way too high. Sad really as Ive a feeling this place is probably usually a great find.
I. F.
Large historic pub in an excellent location with it directly facing Victoria Gardens and being within a stones throw away form the Brighton Pavilion and Dome.
Spread across two floors, there is plenty of seating and tables to go around. There's a dated and dirty feel inside but I guess that is to be expected in a period building like this one.
C. L.
Only stayed for a pint. The place is really worth a visit. Built in 1779 as a farmhouse and named in honor of George III and queen Charlotte. The principal bar is built in the style of a noblemans hall and it is flanked by a paved courtyard. The Tudor room is the main Banquetting hall and was formerly the headquarters of the Brighton Corn Exchange.
B. B.
Close to Royal Pavilion.
It's an historically old pub, so the style is interesting and cosy with comfortable sits and carpet floors.
The place is huge, has two floors, a terrace, pool tables, a foosball, big screens for football/sports and occationally there are dancing lessons or events in a separated room, like swing lessons.
The weekly offers make it quite packed of students from university some nights, so you might find out doormen asking for you Id at the entramce and loud music played inside, but it's not like that everyday.
The booze is Ok, the wine is not brilliant and maybe a bit expensive in comparison with other pub.
Haven't tried the menu yet.
K. W.
Regularly attend Liverpool games here as part of the Liverpool supporters club. It's a fantastic venue with amazing facilities for watching sport and drinking but I wouldn't recommend it as a family pub or a for a nice meal. The food is ok but again with beer and football not the wife and kids.
K. P.
Friendly,cheap food, nice atmosphere,recommended.
B. G.
A little bit of a Brighton institution. Wipe your feet on the way out. You are treated like a criminal before you even come in the door. However the beer prices are cheap and they have most live sports. It's sticky but fun
Z. P.
Very friendly staff
Had a great time watching the semi final England game.
S. A.
Really enjoyed our meal here we got some take aways which looked good for other family members then came back and had ours sitting down. Staff really chatty and efficient. Looks amazing inside really old but found out it had been made to look that way. Good visit.
T. M.
This place is like a medieval village! Great venue for sports, karaoke and other events. It gets busy but there is never a really long wait as they always have lots of staff. We always have a good night here.
Z. S.
Beautiful tudor histroical decor. Interesting paintings and I love the courtyard. Drink deals are great and lots of choices. Good prices for centre of town. Staff are always friendly.
j. e.
Great pub, I am a local and go often. Friendly staff and people in their. I do not really eat there so can't comment on the food but catch a good day and get really cheap drinks.
A. M.
Very good Brighton Pub. There is always something happening
N. B.
Good sports pub, with a good atmosphere when showing big games. Drink selection is okay, but more focused to lagers. There is a pool table and food is okay
N. M.
Good pub to watch the football. Good atmosphere. Food is a long wait if you order and when it came the burger was over cooked and tough. I wouldn't recommend eating here, but a drink we with the lads and watch the footie definitely!
I. R.
Every lively and has all the footy matches. Had a great night. Would definitely recommend if looking for a lively pub with a excellent array of sport
L. H.
This place is huge and amazing. Decoration of middle age very old style. Outside sitting. Good price for food and drinks. Looks famous many people going for food 🍲 here. Not save to much for children inside because or stairs.
M. D.
Great place to drink and Party !!
T. G.
One of the best pubs around
J. F.
Really nice big pub in the heart of Brighton. Reasonable drinks (nothing fancy) and mostly full of students without being an awful car crash like a lot of student places.
P. R.
Large open plan pub. Heritage pub with good atmosphere. Beer and food excellent. Good service and friendly staff. Recommended
A. P.
Very interesting pub with descent selection of beers and good burgers. I have to give it 4 stars because it's a sports pub. Quite annoying trying to keep a conversation over the loud narration (or whatever is called) of football games.
S. G.
Great food and prompt service even with lockdown measures in place.
Well organised, clean and tidy.
M. S.
Nice big pub that shows sports. Prices are a a bit dear but cheaper than others around. Fosters is about 3.75 a pint. Can get very busy and on sports days its often one in one out at the front door.
L. Q.
Haven't been here since l was 18, well that was over 20 years ago! l remember it as a child and the courtyard, which use to have a big bird aviary. It's still a lovely snap shot of Brighton history on the inside and outside, however it was a brief stop off, for a Harvey's, choice of three on draft, which then led then to another. Cosy, traditional but all the mod cons of today. I 'll be going back
J. F.
Perfect place to watch the England v. Panama game. Loved the atmosphere, reasonably priced pictures of beer and the splash zone/ mosh pit that occurred in every goal. Was everything I was expecting and more!! A+
O. W.
Nice space, good selection of drinks, odd atmosphere tho, and a window was slightly smashed so a little chilly with the breeze coming in. More of a lads place than a quiet drink it felt like.
P. M.
Definitely one of the best pubs in Brighton. On Thursday They have an offer for students and non students (2£ one pint). Is good to watch the football with your friends, or just stay for a drink. The pub is very close to the Brighton Pier.
N. V.
This pub has a great garden and provides a lot of choice, including cocktails. However, they close the garden at 12am and inside they play such a loud music as if you were in a club.
C. 2.
Amazing interior, with delightful staff to match.
Drink prices are also very reasonable and the location itself is very accessible and close to bus stops used by students.
Would recommend to anyone.
J. Y.
Great pub , friendly staff. Good choice of drinks and food. Fabulous building
J. A. M.
Good place everywhere ever!!! Upstep Tuesdays and Thursdays best salsa in Brighton with Dani Jay and down step nice promotions as half price every Thursdays and funny karaoke sessions on Tuesdays, come along to enjoy it 🥰
D. W.
Really good oldie worldie pub. With good food, and a good selection of beers and lager. Plenty of sport on the screens to keep everyone happy. And always plenty of staff.
M. G.
This is what I was looking for in London and amazed I had to go to Brighton to find a great British Pub. Fun, friendly and a great atmosphere. Bar keeps much nicer than what I experienced in London.
T. G.
Friendly, reasonably priced...door personnel are cool
R. F.
Excellent atmosphere and character. When i visit Brighton this is my first stop. I live in Somerset and this is still the best pub ive been to.
R. B.
It was ok for the inspirational inside ambient of this kind of pub set of 1800s where a Beer should be the most main drink and enjoy watching football in a big screen.
R. Y.
Nice food and good prices. Popular pub
C. O.
I've been living in Brighton for 6 months and I went there almost everyday. A lot of variety of beers. Good for watch a football match and play pool and table football.
A. H.
If you like sport this is the place, good atmosphere, great outside space, great looking pub inside and out. Toilets a bit nasty, but I did visit on a Saturday night so it's what you'd expect
R. M. B.
Excelent Pub with an excellent garden beer to enjoy a Pint with your friends. If you like Salsa music, you have it there on Tuesday.
O. M. P. #.
Great atmosphere and good vibes for this centrally located pub. Certainly worth visiting in the summer and drinks are reasonably priced.
L.
Very very nice pub, great atmosphere !
M. V.
A very large pub near the Brighton Pavillion with several pool tables and a very big bear garden.A great venue to watch a match or other sporting occasion. My favourite pub in Brighton.Highly recommended it if you have never been before.
O. B.
Banging cocktails for a good price, lovely interior with lovely staff. They also have a pool table which is a plus.
G. j.
Very nice old pub...loved it
I. A.
Ok place good service some rough clietelle
W. B.
Fantastic pub! The staffs there are incredible and very welcoming! Do not miss this pub. Expecting a free pint after this review.
M. E.
Nice and place to have fun
w. W.
Large place with Pool tables and gaming machines.
Lots of free seating which I appreciate as I usually go with a big entourage.
Would definitely go again
C. L.
Friendly staff and great venue
k. k.
Lovely looking pub, very busy, nice outdoor seating and lots of student types, only stayed for one pint but would go back again if in the area!
A. G.
My favourite, love this pub. Everything to me about this beautiful place is just perfect. Recommend a visit to all strongly.
K. P.
Good venue but the manager can micro manage his staff which makes the customers feel awkward and the food can be a bit hit and miss. Ok prices and the great venue means I would go again.
E. T.
Friendly pub, lots of space :)
S. F.
Great pub on a main road in and out of town. Very historic pub with pool and foosball tables. Also had outside area with heating.
J. S.
Well priced. Brilliant atmosphere. Grumpy bouncers the whole time and always too busy... Should expand would be perfect!!!
k.
Busy historic Brighton pub. Usually very busy and can take a while to get served at peak times. Fairly cheap, but sometimes the drinks aren't made well.
H. E.
Broken heaters. Everything else was wonderful
l. s.
!If you want to watch sports then this is the place. Great atmosphere! Garden for smokers. Drinks are very reasonable too.
D. T.
Great pub for football. Food is good beer is the average price. Wine price is ridiculous.
K. E.
Nice pub ,very nice staff
N. W.
Love this pub!
c. h.
