Great cider and a Bristol gem! I loved the cats, they're so tame and loving! The record player lets you choose music and there's plenty of board games. A 10 min walk from College Green. Definitely will come here again!

Quirky little pub with 15 resident cats who are free to wander around and who mainly choose to sit in their little cardboard boxes on the bar! Board games to help yourself to and the juke box is a record player; you choose what you want to listen to and put it in the 'listen to' pile! Worth a visit, especially if you're a cat lover! 😻

Quirky pub with lots of resident cats, all well behaved and loving 😁 Going in there is the usual pub smell with a bit extra cat smell, but not that much, as all the cats are very very clean and lovely. Nice beer selection and relaxed vibe.

Quite possibly my favourite place ever. Whoever thought to make a cat pub was a genius. 15 adorable cats (Wolfgang was my favourite) who walk freely amongst a pub with music on vinyl, several funny messages, and staff who are lovely and clearly passionate about their job (thanks Chris). A traditional pub but with a twist - 15 beautiful cats live there! They sleep on the bar or have a nap on your lap whilst your enjoying a drink. Very reasonably priced, easy to walk to from the centre of town or there is lots of on street parking within a minutes walk.

The most eccentric pub we have ever visited. Cats everywhere, in boxes on the bar, in the window. If you can bear the faint, OK, strong whiff of feline urine and you love cats well... Visit! The cats seemed well behaved, even grumpy cat, which spent their entire time during our stay asleep, typical of a cat though. My favourite pub as a) it has cats b) serves real ale. If you don't like cats or beer, frankly I wouldn't bother going in as the cat spotters will annoy you (people come in to pet the cats without buying anything which is not on!) and this place is tiny. But it's quirky and has great beer and furry friends.

Only for people who love cats. Otherwise the smell (which isn't very strong considering the amount of cats) and the little animals over the tables will annoy you. The cats aren't aggressive at all, and will delight you with the opportunity to pet them, if they think you are worthy. The bar also has an LP player for those who are fans of good quality in their music. Very quiet bar and very relaxing!

Very cozy pub. If you like cats, you'll like this. Very friendly, relaxed service, lots of cats and really good music. The cats are free to roam and will climb on people, but mostly they enjoy snoozing on the bar.

The highlight of my trip in Bristol. Cats. Beer. Friendly staff. Great music. What else could you want?! I don't know where all the complaints about the smell are coming from. I didn't experience any of that. The bar is quite small but we didn't find it hard to find a spot. If you're looking for a more easy visit, try going at off peak times. You can pay by card. Bathrooms are clean. If you love cats, this is the place to go! I fell in love.

Cute place with a great selection of drinks. Some tables have small table top games and some have cats on them! If you love cats I definitely recommend this bar! They are either playing or sleeping in boxes. The landlord is really friendly and often puts on records which makes it cozy! Love it here!

This lovely pub puts its feline residents centre-stage, but don't worry: it's about as far from one of those novelty cat cafes as it's possible to get. Music is exclusively played on vinyl, beers are decidedly diverse and delicious, the retro game room upstairs is a great spot, and the cats will make no qualms about jumping into the lap of anyone they deem worthy.

Have a peak over the bar for the 30+ board games they have. Great ales on when I visited. Looking on social media channels it looks like a pub that regularly cycles through different cask and keg ales. For a small footprint pub, it has a wide range of styles from light, amber through to dark. Personally not a massive fan of cats but the 3 to 5 moggies I saw on my visit were all very chill and weren't bothering anyone who wasn't interested. So short of being allergic to cats, I would still recommend this to anyone. (I also saw a cat climb onto someone's lap during pats so don't worry that the cats are just all super aloof if that is what you are into).

I really like this pub. It's very specific though, so if you lack sense of humour or the only cider you like is Thatchers or Strongbow, or you don't like cats or don't accept that they may smell a bit then nope, not a place for you. I love the way the owner treats those cats, he clearly loves them (although he swear at them often lol!)

One of the best pubs in Bristol. Known for its cats but frequented by plenty of locals. The craft ales are fanatically well kept by Luke and the staff. There's real vinyl from which you can select tunes if you know how to treat records. Don't forget the totally SANE rules imposed by management. It all makes for a tiny lovely place to make friends with cats and people over great beers. *If you only drink lager, ask for a bottle of Kolsch ;-)

Superb! This little gem was a pleasant surprise and I'll be returning regularly, without doubt! The cats are all wonderful and have individual personalities. Great selection of beer, which in itself is getting hard to find. The decor, furnishings etc are brilliant, especially the board of rules 😂 The barman was also very nice indeed. The management have got this place running beautifully, however unusual some may find it. Simply ignore the negative review comments, these complainers clearly have no imagination or sense of humour! Very much recommended indeed. My only regret is not having more time to spend on my visit!

Simply the best: Not just a cat cafe, not just a Pub - a cat Pub. Real ale, real conversation, real sleepy cats everywhere. They behave differently to street cats who beg for your attention though: Because they're so well looked after, they have no need to beg and mostly sit around snoozing. It's a good place to meet humans, too, and because cat Pubs are so rare, people travel long distances specially, so there's always an interesting mix of non-locals. It's not far from the city centre, and there's also a YoBike (bike hire by app) drop-off point right outside. You can moor your boat/barge quite close by, too.

Gem of a pub. Small and softly lit it exudes intimacy. Bar staff knowledgeable and friendly with quality west coast hip hop crackling away on vinyl. The cask selection is bang on and carefully curated. Refreshing change from the ubiquity of pubs supplied exclusively by distributors. Keg is good too. I think I spotted Armagnac also! Christ, why don't more pubs offer decent spirits? It's not like they are perishable. And the owner's replys to one star reviews are a good way to pass the time. Visit if you appreciate quality. Avoid if you spend your weekends shopping for square dinner plates in the John Lewis sale

Awesome little pub, full of cats! The drinks are good, the cats are lovely and there's usually enough space to sit. It's cash it though and the building appears to have some serious damp issues, as well as other problems, which I'd imagine can't be good for the cats. It's worth going to see, but I hope they fix the problems soon!

One of my favourite places on Planet Earth. The atmosphere is brilliant, very "old school British pub". They change all of the kegs at the bar fairly regularly so the choice of beer is almost unlimited if you visit often. There are also many many cats, so if beer and felines is your thing then this is the place to go for you.

Great find on an ale trip to Bristol. There are resident house cats, which you can choose to interact with or not. A varied range of real ale and other drinks. A friendly crowd are served by a chatty group of bar staff. There is a record player that you can look through the collection and ask the staff to put on.

This is without a doubt the best pub in the UK. Wonderful purry cats everywhere, great selection of beers, friendly and efficient bar staff and no screaming kids. If like me you love cats, you'll love this pub! Currently it has 8 kittens and several adult cats. To the business of being a pub, it scores 100% for quirkiness and has the friendliest clientèle. I often react adversely to mass produced beers but I'm better with real ales and darker beers. They do have some very nice beers and the selection is constantly changing. Though I'm not heavily into music, I enjoy the old-fashioned record player and the general atmosphere of being different. There are some house rules that some people find strange. Perhaps the most important is "no single-sex groups". Not sure what constitutes a group, three people of the same sex seems OK. I definitely recommend this place.

Wandering aimlessly I came across this pub. I'm so glad I did. I had a nice elderflower cider and hung out with some very pleasant cats. Wolfgang in particular was so soft. I suppose if you don't like cats laying on the pub counter then this won't be your happy place. But it made me happy enough to last several days at least.

Expect real ales and cider and not much else, toys everywhere round the pub to play with and a general awesome attitude of the landlord and bar staff. The cats are beautiful and friendly, that's the only real appeal of this place. Once you get past the novelty of the cats you realise it's actually quite dark, gloomy and grimy. Also smells strongly of ammonia from the cats. Bar staff seem hit and miss too. Some quite rude others alright. If this place didn't have cats I don't think many people would go in unless it was there "local". Also - no card payments! Need to get money out before going. Edit after the response from the owner: I think the venom in your response only reflects my point. I gave my honest opinion. Your place is run down and a mess. If you did clean it daily then you're not doing a very good job. I'd agree with you on it being you that's rude. Your staff are lovely whereas you're arrogant as reflected in any response you've had on here that's not 5*.

Quirky and delightfully different. There are way too many pubs that try to be different and actually end up looking and feeling the same. The Bag of Nails succeeds where others fail. Tiny inside, music from a record deck playing vinyl, games and toys scattered around the bar, great selection of frequently changed beers and cats that are happy to let you come into their 'home'. The "rules" on the blackboard on the pillar by the bar are an indication of how the Bag of Nails operates. Take us as we are!

Adorable (sometimes scratchy) cats, a great selection of ciders, lovely (sometimes cheeky) owner. Probably my favourite pub ever! Bring cash though - nearest cashpoint is the tesco's at college green if it's after 7pm :(

Highly idiosyncratic pub at the bottom of Jacobs Wells Road with a view of the SS Great Britain. It really isn't for everybody, the landlord designed it as the kind of pub he wanted so there is an excellent and constantly changing array of real ales, interesting booze in bottles, free roaming cats (except during busy periods) and music on vinyl or occasionally live. There is no tolerance for pub crawls, fancy dress, Christmas or ill-informed Daily Mail opinions. They don't have a TV or lager on tap. Perfect. As far as I'm concerned, there's no better pub in Bristol.

A great little, friendly, pub with the best pork pies in Bristol! The staff are friendly, as are the cats, and there is a great atmosphere. Choose the music you want to listen to from the stacks of records (yes, records!) and if nobody else is listening to something then just put it on. Try the pork pies, there is always a selection of chutneys to go with them, but I highly recommend the onion.

Cracking little gem of a pub close enough to the centre to be convenient but enough of a track to avoid the issues (read idiots) you get down at the centre/waterfront/park street. A great selection of independent beers and a couple of decent farmhouse ciders. Well decorated with original gas lamps working. The real killer icing on the cake is the record deck and eclectic mix of 7 and 12 inch vinyl records available for all to route through and put on at their leisure. This gives you hours of entertainment and is much more fun than just feeding pound coins into a jukebox. Totally recommended!

It _is_ undeniably small - so you might not physically be able to get in - but if you can, this pub like the magnificent Cornubia, spends its time worrying about being a pub: not a restaurant, or a wine bar, or a penny arcade, just a pub, and Thank Heavens for that. The beer is often-rotated and excellently kept. That's all you need to know (apart from "Obey Malcom").
