Reviews of Black Horse
S. G.
Lovely place for a drink..haven't tried the food.,very small menu currently, mostly rolls &baguettes. Loads of tables inside in such acquaint building,as well as outside tables .
P. A.
Amazing deep set bar with real beer barrels and good variety of pub snacks :) incredible fireplace and cosy, true but atmosphere! Truly would recommend a visit! (And they show rugby!)
P. H.
Great little pub. Good selection of cider and beer that is well kept. Great straight forward lunches at a sensible price. Good parking too. Good vibe and dog friendly.
A. H.
Proper country pub. Good beer and Cider. Lunch was good, proper Ploughman's and home made soup. Friendly staff. Will be back.
D. T.
A lovely proper pub. We popped in for a quick drink while on a walk. It's great sitting outside in the garden. They had live music on the day we went (Sunday)
Brilliant choice of real Ales and premium Larger's. They also do meals and snacks and although we didn't try any, they looked really good. It was very busy as well, so looks like it's a popular place. I've been back in again (6/6/2022). I'm pleased to report it it as good as ever. We sat outside in the garden this afternoon and was really lovely. It was a bit quiet but what do you expect on a Monday. Definitely worth a visit.
M. S.
Lovely pub with a great outdoor area, its a shame some of the local clientele drink drive down Norton wood's Lane to get back from here.
J. C.
Lovely little traditional Local pub. Simple food and drinks. Large garden.
B. S.
Good pint of Exmoor Gold and delicious lunchtime crusty baguette with bacon and mushrooms, thankfully no chips.
K. L.
Beautiful old pub. Friendly staff and good range of ale 10/10
S. W.
great old pub , traditional spit and sawdust pub mostly locals but brilliant if you like that local pub vibe , loved it
J. L.
Great selection of ciders and real ale. Huge outdoor space and an almost endless number of table space in the back
M. C.
This has got to be the best pub in Somerset; lovely building, good selection of ales and ciders, super location - it’s a proper local country pub and there are few of them left!
S. H.
Great range of ciders and ales in a lovely old pub with a local atmosphere
E.
Stopped by for a drink and some lunch. Good friendly staff. We had a tuna mayo roll and a black pudding and mushroom baguette. Both were very generously filled. Would definitely recommend.
B. S.
Best pub around. Landlord, landlady and staff are brilliant.
H. S.
We did a 8 mile walk and stopped at this cute lovely little pub , the garden round the back is huge and they had a live band playing , really good 👍🙂 had a lush Pimm's :) all over really great , the toilets were really clean to and had all the good reminders of 2 metre distance , and washing your hands 👍 also like to add that you just take a seat and the staff will come to you and take your order and then bring your drinks/food to you :) payed by contactless .
K. B.
Good beer and very friendly service. Lunchtime food consists of soup, sandwiches and ploughman's. Nothing fancy but tasty. Great place to stop off at whilst hiking or cycling. Has very loyal clientele.
D. B.
Visited late afternoon midweek. Lots of outside seating including tables under cover. The table service was very swift and very well organised. The Butcombe best was absolutely on the money! Very dog friendly staff with treats brought out with the beer. Excellent hostelry!
J. P.
This is a proper old school pub. Excellent beer choice, which is much appreciated. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere amongst staff and customers.
F. M.
Very old pub with a history , good real ale and ciders popular with locals well with a visit
J. W.

J. H.
Great pub set out the way in a quite location ,fantastic garden and outdoor bar, friendly staff and a great selection of beers and ciders what more could you want
J. G.
Great service, good beer and pleasant staff
M. B.
Authentic dosn't do The Black Horse justice. 'The Kicker ' as affectionetly known to locals is a village pub whose origins (and decor) are lost in the mists of time. Inside the wooden interior and snug bars retain a genuine olde worlde atmosphere and you get the feel of generations of locals who have met, put the world to rights and quaffed the excellent ales.
Outside there is a generous garden for the summer months. I enjoyed a substantial (and tasty) lasagne under a spreading walnut tree.
Highly recommended, particularly on a cold winter's night with a good fire in.
Its a popular place, but parking is provided. The only problem is finding it in the first place, but maybe we could keep this little treasure as our secret?
R.
Such a Lovely country pub, delicious food and very safe set up in covid. All served outside and safe facilities, large tents/ gazebo all spaced out. Very impressed and felt at ease. Will definitely recommend and return. Well done.
m. r.

One of my favourite pubs that still feels like one. Open fire, beams, cosy inside and plenty of parking and outside areas to enjoy
c. f.
Proper "drinkers" pub with warm welcome from friendly staff, toasty fire on wet and cold days and bags of character (and characters!). Flagstone floor and dogs welcome. Well kept beer for m barrels with a regular different guest beer. Regular live music and open mic nights really popular with fantastic atmosphere. Love this pub 👍😃
D. B.
Brilliant old traditional country pub. Has a good choice of rough ciders and real ales. Prices of pints and pub snacks are good value. Spacious car park at the back. Indoor seating area is pleasant and has a proper log fire. Bar staff are pleasant and welcoming.

Always the best atmosphere in this 500 yrs old pub. Even if they run out of their so popular daily specials it is worth a visit to taste a good ham and chees baguette washing it down with a good pint. 5stars
R. B.
Great little pub, lovely location, nice inside, and out. There's a bar/serving hatch for ordering drinks from the beer garden. Boat loads of seating, plenty of parking. Beer was well kept. Not too expensive.
S. G.

The best country pub in and around Bristol. Good range of cast ales, largers and ciders. Friendly staff and do occasional live bands.
J. H.
Great little country pub tucked away at the end of a lane so that you wouldn't know that it was there if you were passing by on the main road. Friendly staff, lotsa outside seating and a fine range of local beers n ciders.
l. f.
Just had a nice pint of Guinness in front of a crackling fire, in this lovely old village pub, after walking back from the remembrance service, at the local church. Home now for Sunday roast with the family. Could life be any better.
R. K.

Olde Worlde original public house and therefore untainted by glitzy wine-bar culture or 'themes'. Good selection of ales, an open fire for these (at time of writing, snowy) temperatures.
