Reviews of Boar's Head, Aust
S. H.
What a great place, Richard and Rich are great hosts and as the pictures show you super feed that is well presented. Tables aren’t on top of each other. A historic pub in all senses, beer is well kept and the wine chilled just right. Look out for the bingo bus.
L. G.
We stayed overnight with our motorhome and we were made very welcome the food and drink was outstanding, we can recommend the fish and chips. Also all the staff are very friendly and helpful, definitely worth a visit.
Len and kim wales.
J. C.
Great little pub off the beaten track. Food and drink is fabulous as are the staff. Really recommend visiting if you need a break near Aust/Old Severn Bridge
C.
Visited for the first time in a number of years. My goodness what a change! We were warmly welcomed as we came through the door and there was such a lovely friendly atmosphere. Our dog Charlie was also welcomed and fussed over, this is a very dog friendly pub. The owners Rich & Rich are great hosts. We will definitely be back again soon :-)
H. T.
Did have BBQ burger and local ale. Must say that I haven't have that good burger yet. And I mean that. It is worth every penny and more. Really big thanks.
L. C.
Really cosy pub/ restaurant with an open fire . Great food and very friendly staff. Can't wait to go back again.
L. G.
Had the most wonderful meal here. Great service too. 100% recommend.
J. B.
Lovely atmosphere, classic English hotel pub style. Friendly staff. Very helpful.
Way too many choices on the menu. Suggest you reduce it right down to a handful and concentrate on upping the quality of the ingredients.
I'll definitely be back XXX thanks
K.
Just had Sunday lunch here. Very nice food and what a plate full! Had a very warm welcome from the staff and hearty meal. Our 4 month old puppy was welcomed too. Highly recommend.
P. T.
Four stars is a tad mean! We sat on the covered patio to escape the drizzle, which was fine. Friendly staff, and no complaints with the food. Fish and chips more than ample, and pie of the day very, very generous.
Another visit. Don't bother with the Chorizo hash! My own Red Flannel hash is much better! Chicken sandwich very generous. Sat in the garden in the sunshine for possibly the last time this year!
A. G.
Four of us enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast there yesterday. As always, Richard & Rich made us feel so welcome & the ambience was wonderful!
Highly recommended. Wish we could give them ten stars.
R. L.
My wife and I visited, for the 3rd time and were not disappointed. We both chose the CDWM chicken, awesome. So good that we booked a New Year's Day table for 8 of us. Keep it up guys, we will be back this month. Russ n Kerry.
B. R.
Very welcoming, friendly staff.
Simple but well cooked food, with massive portions - couldn't fit a pudding in.
Great beer and wine selection, not high brow but not over priced either.
Will be back.
L. C.
Delicious food (generous portions too!), good atmosphere and staff were attentive. Also, loved seeing all the Christmas decorations! Would recommend.
L.
Beautiful local pub, with warm welcoming staff. Outside seating area, bar and resturaunt. Quite low ceiling so mind your head or you won't enjoy the great food as much as you should 👍 …
G. D.
Excellent pub and restaurant we've wanted to eat there for a while and we weren't disappointed very good service and delicious home made food
A. S.
Lovely cosy pub after a long country walk. Great staff. Fantastic pub food done really, really well for a reasonable price.
D. S.
Sorry no pics go and see for yourself. Great service by all the team, and the food was really good. Varied menu. Traditional old...really old pub. Atmosphere relaxed. 🤗 …
M. T.
Beautiful village pub , traditional pub grub with big portions. Good selection of beers and wines, very friendly staff. Excellent beer garden. Would recommend.
N. R.
Really enjoyed our food. The service was good and the staff were definitely characters, in a good way.
Watch your head if you're tall, though!
P. B.
Delightful ambience of a real country pub. The food is excellent pub food. The staff are perfect: very friendly and efficient. We'll6 recommended.
G. W.
Great pub with excellent food and even better staff who look after you from the minute you arrive. Highly recommended
H. t. G.
We stopped here to have a break from the driving and to have a look at the Severn Bridge. The pub was clean and the quality of the food was better than an average pub! Recommend!
R. W.
We booked a lunch on boxing day, like we did the year before, & like before the meal was exceptional, the roast had 6 vegs, potatoes, cooked peperfecttopperfectionperfectionperfectionccookedantrimincookedcooked ton cpooked

We visited today on the off chance and we were not disappointed how could you be after receiving a great friendly welcome, eating very tasty food in a lovely atmosphere!

Amazing little pub...
This is our 3rd visit in less than a month.
The food is very tasty, good portion size. Different meal on each visit & each as good as the last...
Staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble
S. J.
Food was amazing and staff isbl friendly. Will defo be coming back here
M. R.
Lovely old pub, good food, great service. Would recommend
H. H.
Good to see this old pub back in business, generous portions of homecooked food and decent cask beer. Extensive garden, tables nicely distanced.
P. B.
Great pub. Good beer, great food, super friendly staff and a warm welcome on a cold March Saturday. A proper village pub where they really make an effort.
J. S.
The rating speaks for itself, the food is absolutely lovely, great value for money and to top it off the staff are great and all!
A. L.
A very nice, very old pub. The menu had a good selection of the classics (pie of the week, fish and chips, burgers etc) and a good selection of other items. The food was very good. We all really liked the chunky chips. The Sunday roast had huge slabs of meat. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good size beer garden that had a bouncy castle in it. Looking forward to going again.
A. G.
Great pub, now independent not part of s chain which is so refreshing, the food is excellent and the surroundings lovely and the host was really welcoming in a quiet village very close to the motorway they are working hard on attracting different groups, they deserve to succeed as they put so much effort in making a success of the pub. Great indoors and a beautiful garden area. Visit you won't be disappointed
M. R.
Was recommended this pub and wasn't disappointed.
The food was really nice and generous portions. But the 2 most positive points were the hosts who were extremely welcoming, and a superb beer garden.
Highly recommended
L. W.
Oh my what an eye opener. Yum yum yum and more. Inside outside eating. Meals were out in some style. Toilets disabled access play area and more...
M. B. J.
There was a slight delay waiting fir our meals. We were pleased about this as we were able to really "catch up" re chatting. The staff were amazing. Apologising for delay etc. Ensuring we were 'comfortable'. The actual meals, three different choices, were absolutely 'spot on' . Lovely way to end my Daughter's 52 birthday. "I'll be back". Thank you do much.
J. F.
Very friendly staff, quick service.
It's a vintage pub which I really appreciated.
Food was absolutely wonderful and plenty of it too!
All at a very reasonable price. I would happily go back and recommend.
S. P.
Lovely village pub, run very well by the staff and fantastic outdoor setup. Food was great.
T. E.
First time eating at the boars head. It certainly wont be the last. Lots of seating areas inside and out. Bouncy castle for the children, dogs bowls, the whole area was lovely and clean and tidy. We sat on the patio which was very pleasant. The food was delicious. It was hot, tasty and plentiful. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Forgot to mention they have an ice cream parlour, with mr whippy too. I cant wait to visit again.
J. H.
We never knew this was barely a stones throw from the motorway services, so very happy to have discovered the lovely little village of Aust with a great pub. Cosy and characterful, the staff were friendly and were really interested in each table.
The food was good pub fare, short service times and well priced. The doorstop bacon and brie sandwich ensured I was fully refuelled for my onward journey!
M. K.
The staff were lovely, friendly and welcoming. The roast pork and beef were nice but the chicken breast was disappointing, like it had been reheated. No roast potatoes but the boiled ones were nice, as was the yorkshires, cabbage & mash. Stuffing was dry and tough.
The building is lovely.
B. R.
Lovely evening with friends and delicious food.
D. S.
Excellent food, lovely garden and friendly staff. Bouncy castle and chickens for the kids, beautiful traditional country pub. Highly recommended ☺️
D. H.
Great pub, Great food atmosphere, well worth a book in and stop if passing, or local.

Lovely home made food. Great value. Staff very friendly and helpful.
R. B.
Very good food, friendly staff with local knowledge of where to go and what to do, dog friendly and a large field/ car park at the rear.
C. M.
Absolutely great traditional Country Pub
Nice Home cooked food.
Traditional Ales
And the staff where so on it.
Check out the desert menu 😋.
T. J.
I make a point of stopping here when I'm in the area, because they serve great food, and a large range of beers & wines.
L. Z.
Lovely pub. Friendly and welcoming publicans and staff.
K. R.
Great pub and garden . Lovely food and bouncy castle for the kids. Good covid safety measures in place. New young Female waitress with long dark hair was very professional and so helpful.
6.
Had a table booked for ten of us no problem. Ebullient welcoming staff and excellent service felt like we'd been going there years!. The only reason for four stars rather than five was the fact that by three the beef had run out and the chicken dinners were served without spuds. The desserts were amazing!
We'll be back I think!
K. M.
Usually very good but had to wait 1/2 hr yesterday for mains and the garlic bread was burnt and the chips were warm…not sure what the issues are but hopefully better next time
D. B.
We had lunch today - chicken pie and chicken & bacon salad. Both were excellent and good value as was the Timothy Taylor beer. A very friendly pub
T. C.
Lovely lite lunch in a welcoming atmosphere, full to bursting now 😋🤤 …
a. m.
Food and atmosphere good (had a folk band in bar playing, but not too loud so very nice background music) service a bit slow and inexperienced but not an issue as we did not have a deadline. Desert menu was disappointing as mostly various cakes (carrot cake not really a desert)
K. W.
Always great food and friendly staff. Nothing is ever too much and always get service with a smile.
S. B.
Perfect motorhome stopover on our way to Wales. Lovely food and peaceful location. Would recommend and visit again if we come back this way in our van.
D. B.
Good beer, good food and nice oldy worldy pub. Friendly family run pub.
G. L.
Very nice pub, helpful and friendly staff and the food overall was good. The background music, although mostly to my taste, was more foreground, making conversation a little difficult.
r. c.
Fantastic Sunday lunch/staff very friendly / dog 🐕 was made welcomed with Water and a few biscuits we was all made welcome will definitely go back again …
T. W.
Love this place!!!! A superb little pub/restaurant with friendly staff, amazing food and a wonderful setting!

C. M.
Excellent food and service, good prices too, definitely go back
J. T.
Really good selection of beers, with great food and a nice atmosphere that Aust generally has; sealings are a bit low however, so maybe watch your head in the pub
l. b.
Really good pub lovely food love the back garden they have for the kids
k. k.
Such a lovely place with great food and really friendly staff 😊 …
J. W.
Beautiful, cozy Pub located just off the M48 bridge.
Great selection of lager/beer including my favourite, Peroni, which you don’t find very often in traditional pubs.
I’ve enjoyed drinks here previously but today The wife and I stopped in while on our way home from Bristol to South Wales. We had the soup and prawns which were divine and both came with the thickest, freshest and softest bread we have ever eaten!!
Very good portions and fairly quick from order to table.
Service and staff were exceptional, very friendly.
Card payments accepted.
This is a proper village pub with great atmosphere and decor.
As far as pubs go, this is a true PUB that welcomes all, not just regulars.
We will happily travel an hour to visit again!
g.
Stopped by for Sunday lunch. We hadn’t booked but the landlord and his team went out of their way to fit us in and make us feel incredibly welcome. Really fantastic service, great food, and lovely country pub atmosphere. Do book ahead, it gets very busy and we got lucky! Highly recommended
C. R.
Went here with friends today for a Christmas lunch 😋 Well cooked fresh food, large portions, all the Christmas vegetables on a plate with plenty of turkey on top. EXCELLENT. The staff were very helpful and attentive to our needs, they certainly helped us to enjoy our Christmas meal.Thank you very much. …
P. H.
A wonderful country pub, full of locals. Hidden down a side road near the Severn Bridge. Friendly staff. However it has my two HATES in a pub - canned music (not necessary, who asks for it) and television screens on but without sound. I can understand a big screen for special events. I hope the member of the kitchen staff who allowed a dog to lick her hands washed them before continuing work.
C. M.
This place is highly recommended! We had booked a table and requested dog friendly, which was accommodated in the bar area. They were very short staffed but dealt with it well. It happened to be my birthday and the staff brought out balloons and a slice of cake with a candle which was such a lovely touch. The kids loved the bouncy castle in the garden. Food was delicious and great portion sizes.
V. D.
Superb pub very cosy and extremely clean, very nice garden. Lovely and funny landlord and outstanding staff. Quality food (roast dinner and chocolate fudge cake) I wholeheartedly recommended this pub. I’ll be visiting again to the area and will definitely go back for drinks and food.
C. P.
Great pub. Fun events. Indoor and outdoor space. Parking. Engaging staff
S. P.
Great food, great service, lovely village location. Extensive menu choice.
T. B.
Very welcoming and lovely food. Good that they had had a busy weekend, but no good for us that everyone loved their beers and drank it before we arrive!
R. S.
Nice place this. Staff are all super friendly n make you feel very welcome....food was OK but I miss the mix grill. Star off for the loooooooooooong wait....2 hours! After booking for 730 was told 45min wait which turned out to be 120mins....but like i said the staff were all great ... the cider was cold n the gas had just gone up!!
N.
Fantastic friendly pub with a lovely Sunday lunch

D. W.
Great pub great atmosphere awesome food and beer

I'm on holiday, and my daughter son in law and grandchildren live in this village 💙 when I walked in the door, it's totally 16th century old pub, I was in awe, low beams wood burning fire 🔥, the Sunday roast was £12, well the plate you get, could feed me for a week.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, we did have a table booked for Sunday lunch, and I'd certainly be aware of that.
And such a beautiful village 😍
You only miss out by not going.
Q. S.
Been here twice recently and will definitely go back again. A little hidden gem, great atmosphere, food is delicious, staff are friendly and make you feel welcome as soon as you enter the door.
I discovered spicy nacho's with pulled pork here today - it's the best nacho's I have had and will go back there just for that.
L. J.
Huge portions of lovely quality food. Efficient service and friendly staff. Very clean and lovely atmosphere. Will definitely go again.

We went to the Boars Head on the 10th March. The staff are excellent. The was nothing they wouldn't do for you. The meal was really good and plentiful. For great tasting food and a good atmosphere I would highly recommend going.
S. R.
Visited for a large family meal.
Delicious meals with great portions. Wait on food was a little longer than expected due to how busy the place is.
Worth a visit if you are in the area.

First visit last week great country pub and an amazing welcome from host and locals a roaring light fire on a cold day and great food. So good going again this week and booked for a delicious Sunday roast next week
S. D.
Little hidden treasure. Exploring on bicycle, and stopped for lunch.
Ordered sandwiches, and we were amazed by the size of them. Honestly could have shared one between us. Really nice.
Friendly staff, lovely interior and the glimpse of the beer garden I had it looked very nice too.
Will be returning in the future.
S. T.
Such friendly and welcoming staff! Very good, efficient service. Lovely atmosphere. We hadn't booked, just took a chance and luckily there was a table available. Food very good. They had run out of a few things but not a problem. We will return!
P. R.
Excellent service and fabulous food, all cooked to order not just reheated like a lot of pub restaurants. Lovely atmosphere, cozy and warm.

I am giving this place four stars even though I didn't actually go into the pub (we had our meal on the patio)
The staff are both thoughtful and helpful. One server even brought out a bowl of water for our dog without us even asking. Lovely food.

What a pleasant pub, great food, great service, great atmosphere. Staff were nice and friendly.
Parking not great but that's a testament to how popular they are. Toilets were clean, has a country pub feel and dogs are welcome. You can pay contactless and there is free WiFi.
Highly recommended

Staying at the nearby Travelodge, the receptionist recommended this characterful and charming place for an evening meal. Situated just a short distance from the main roads the Boars Head is in a surprisingly quiet location and on arrival it was obvious this was a popular choice. However, we were greeted by a pleasant and welcoming member of staff who found our party of four - and also a dog ("no problem at all") - a table.
Full of Olde World charm, scrubbed tables with lit candles and gorgeous log fires set the scene. Each of us selected something different from the menu which offered an excellent but not excessive choice (usually a good sign that food is homemade). We were not disappointed...all was delicious, the relaxing atmosphere and lovely, attentive staff tempting us to stay for a scrumptious pudding! £76, including a round of drinks...all in all just fabulous! Thank you all.
S. D.
Excellent Sunday Roast and service, would highly recommend.

4.5 ☆ A change of chef maybe. An excellent pub. Great menu. Good service.
Well worth a visit. 🙂👍 …
M. K.
This pub is worth the detour off the M48.
Tucked away just off the motorway is The Boars Head. Great food, decent beer and fantastic service from Big Rich and Little Rich.
It was so good, we went back for another visit!
P. S.
Good food and a lovely landlord

Most likely the best family pub we have been too, first time today and everything was just right! We are gutted we haven’t known about this place before now but it will 100% be our new treat for a meal out. All the staff are lovely and the owners are also attentive and outgoing, exactly what you want in a family pub!
Oh and the food is amazing too!!!

Speaking to a cyclist last night he recommended this pub as he had just eaten there. We called in for lunch today and we're jolly pleased we had done so.
The staff were very helpful and so apologetic about the sticky toffee pudding having run out. We opted for light bites and desert and came away pleasantly full.
A delightful find.
P. K.
Awesome interior, super friendly staff, nice dishes

Staff was very welcoming friendly helpful. They was very busy and still was helpful. The food was nice could done with smaller plates .Veg was cooked lovely and chicken and beef was cooked well
Down side no menu on tables to show what roast they offer and the cost for the roast. Plus you don't know what you getting in less you ask . no stuffing to go with the chicken .the roast was covered in gravy would rather been asked .as they did have gravy on side. gravy was watery. . And the final bill was bit shocker. Found it over priced so if on budget probly not best place to go .£42.00 3 drinks two roast dinner and ice cream
N. J.

J. R.
After having really nice meal with friends a few weeks ago decided to go again on thursday night the 7th april. Sad to say food was very disappointing, don't know if regular cooking staff were off because of filming the night before but certainly was`nt up to the usual standard.Chips on one steak meal were cold[ but were change straight away] the fish on both fish meals salmon and bass were over cooked so quite dry and the mash on three meals was stodgy and tasteless in fact the meals with mash gave the impression they had been microwaved as any sauces had evaporated, my duck was fine and the steak was good and the starters were fine. It`s a cosy welcoming pub and we will go again and hope this was a minor blip for the reason stated.
B. F.

Very nice meal was had by all, very friendly staff
t. b.
Very welcoming proper pub with a mine host and plenty of well-trained and willing-to-help staff. Big menu, including specialities and our food was very good. It had been recommended, when we arrived, by a regular who had travelled up from Bristol to camp in the back field with her 2 grandchildren, who had the time of their lives jumping up and down in the rain puddles on the pub's bouncy castle. There is a spacious garden and attractive outside eating area. She also said the Sunday roast was "to die for".
We had our motorhome in the big back garden too. Some noise from the nearby motorway but not as much as we first expected. A historic pub with real ale, a real fire and great food in a quaint village setting 😊
S. W.
Excellent, friendly service for a delicious Sunday lunch. Will definitely return!
j. j.

Lovely food, friendly staff. 👍 …
S. E.
Food is fantastic. Drinks are very expensive
A. L.
OK pub. Food not well presented. I had the lasagne, which was fairly bland, and plated over the salad in a hot dish making the lettuce hot and limp.
I asked for no garlic bread and chips instead and was told I could not swap, but could buy chips. Not very helpful.
G. M.
Great night food was first class. Highley recommend 👌 …
C. S.

J. G.
The Boars Head at Aust is a pub we regularly meet friends from Bristol as we live in South Wales and I have left great reviews in the past. Today was the first time we have been there since before the lockdown, I booked a table for six, we were asked to sign in when we arrived and shown to our table. The pub was packed out with Hugh ques at the bar to order drinks then another long que making it impossible to maintain social distances to order our food. We were asked to “pay as we go” on cards but they only have one card payment machine so the machine was very busy and handed from staff to staff. There were only three ladies working the bar, food orders and serving food and they were rushed off their feet. The food was good as usual, but no deserts as they had sold out.
Overall due to the number of people allowed into the pub (wet weather) and the shortage of staff it did not feel very safe. The staff were very busy and working so hard and the whole experience of ordering food and drinks at the bar was a nightmare, had we not been meeting for a special occasion and the first time in months we would have not bothered with the food order as it all took so long queuing we had little time to sit and relax together.
We will think twice about meeting there again
p. w.
