This is an amazing place. Here you can find an outstanding atmosphere, having a meal in a castle environment. To any end, avoid going for lunch because the service is not that good - looks like there are no managers at this time, so the staffs are not that engaged. At night things changes, and you can have a complete experience - week and weekends as well.

We decided on this place last minute for my birthday. It was on Friday afternoon so the place was not busy which was good. We ordered 2 Big Mexicans burgers with tortilla chips and seasoned fries. Although we had to wait 40 mins for the food, the wait was worthwhile. The portions were big size yet affordable. The food was spicy hot, but the heat can be managed with a side of coleslaw. I really enjoyed the food and waitress offered takeaway boxes since we could not finish. Staff was cheerful and helpful and checked on us and were happy to offer assistance where necessary. I would have given 5 stars but knocked off 2 stars as the environment is not clean. The chairs and table had dirty stains and the carpet had food crumbs. This place would really benefit with a deep cleaning.

I stupidly ordered the fondue steak trying to be the big man but was defeated half through....its like 32 ounces! The steak was cooked a perfect rare and the sides were banging... maybe one day I'll get my picture on that wall.. can you do a thatchers challange please and then perhaps I might finish it!

Visited for drinks on a very hot Thursday evening. Immediately impressed by the rustic castle style of the building and courtyard. Was happy to see a variety of Thatchers on tap including the Blood Orange which is my current favourite. Drinks are reasonably priced, the food menu has lots of tasty options, from burgers to wings to mac and cheese. Shout out to the staff, particularly Beth and Claire who looked after our group and were great fun. Looking forward to my next visit.

Visited for some food and drinks on Thursday. We were well looked after by Beth - nothing was too much trouble and she was super friendly. Also chatted to Claire who was lovely. Have visited the Castle pub once before on a visit to Bristol and still remember having the best Steak meal I ever had. When on a visit again recently I just had a chicken burger and chips which was also very nice, so would recommend the food. All staff very friendly, helpful and courteous. Also within walking distance if staying at the Arnos Manor Hotel.

Visited for lunch. Food was delicious! Ordered the steak fondue - says it feeds 2 but we couldn’t eat it all! Perfectly cooked! Service is quick, Tara and Kelsey behind the bar were really knowledgeable and helpful! We played pool while waiting for our food, Luke and Aaron made our visit, let us know that there’s a free game in the table if it’s the first game of the day! Also making sure we always had a drink in front of us! It’s the little personal touches that really made this visit a top one! Thank you to all the team!

It's a very strange old castle type building which makes an unusual pub. Nothing original inside btw. An odd layout as a result. The allergy info is good, we app ordered from the table as the bar was busy, which was good and it came quickly. Great pie and chips which amazingly is Dairy free. Not too expensive, good pub grub.

The food and service were really nice, would definitely go again. However, some of the food was quite small and we weren't completely full when we had the main course and the steak we ordered medium rare came through as well done. It did take a little while to get the food to us whilst there was noone else in. The puddings were really nice though, would recommend the Lotus Biscoff Cheesecake

Visited here again on Wednesday and was greeted by a lovely lady named Claire who was very friendly and very helpful. She showed us to a table and explained if we needed anything to just ask, so we chose our food and drinks then went up to the bar to order and was served by a lovely lady named Kelsey who was very friendly. Claire then brought out our food and even came back to check on us to make sure everything was OK with our food. Thank you for looking after us so well we will definitely be back soon.

I had a lovely time at the castle just last week, visiting some friends in Brislington. We called in for a pint and ended up staying for food after getting envious of someone’s nachos! My dad visited years ago and clearly the standards have gone up since Beth took over the place, I was very impressed. You should definitely poop in whenever you get the chance.

Have lived in the area for many years and been here many times...never used to come here because service etc was shocking.. In contrast over the past 3 months have been here many times...each time the service and friendliness has been incredible...never have I been to a Greene king pub that has such amazing staff. Had a Xmas party booking here recently too for a large group...all the food came on time and was great. Green king really need to acknowledge how lucky they are to have such a high caliber of staff running one of their pubbs :-) GrkGreengreeracknowledge how gragreat..aserviceimpeccable.

Regularly use this venue and generally okay. yesterday ordered 4 meals which came within 15 mins but had to wait over half an hour for drinks to be delivered by which time we had finished our meals, hope we don't go when there are more than 12 people in there

I know this place as Black Castle and have been visiting for over 20 years. It could do with some level of refit and they always seem to be short staffed. Beautiful building filled with local history.

The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly...But as gorgeous as the building is, it was in a fairly poor state of repair, with dirty vents, huge cobwebs, dust, sticky carpets and tables. The outside area was stunning though, just keep your coats on as there are no heaters! (Free parking, and it's right next door to a huge Asda....Many seemed to be eating before their shop!)

First time at black castle and In all my 45 years I’ve been alive that was the most amazing gammon I’ve ever had . I will not be eating a gammon dinner in any other restaurants/ pub . We ended up here by default as hadn't been to Bristol for ages and were planning to eat elsewhere but that restaurant was no longer there. We were not expecting much but thought we need to eat somewhere. However, we were really pleasantly surprised. The staff were really friendly and accommodating, the food we had was really good and tasty, a good sized portion, and very reasonably priced. The drinks were also well priced. So after what could have been a bit of a disaster we had a really enjoyable well priced meal, with great service.

This is only a review on the service and the booze. I haven't eaten here and don't intend to. But here goes. Lovely staff. The manager is very welcoming and the assistant manager is just as lovely. Great pint of guinness at an amazing price. Always great for sport. If you want a whole pub experience, maybe go elsewhere but if you want a pint at a good price and watch sport, it's a great boozer.

Visited here today for food and drinks after doing some shopping in sainsburys. Fish was fresh, chicken wings had some nice variety of sauces at different spiciness levels, and the chicken tika masala was creamy. The only complaint would be that the rice was a little cold. Unique pub tucked away behind Sainsbury's in Brislington, my daughter was very excited to visit an actual castle! We called in for a bite to eat before a trip to the cinema. There were plenty of vegetarian options and food came out quickly and tasted lovely. Staff were very friendly and although I am not a dog owner it was lovely to see how dog-friendly the pub is, with fresh water and plenty of drinking bowls available and even a treat or two. It looks a lovely place to nip in for a coffee too which will be useful when the Sainsbury's cafe closes. I look forward to my next visit.

I really like this place. It serves reasonably-priced meals, including great steaks, they also do reduced prices for senior citizens and kids' meals. Certain days of the week they offer some good deals too. I'm always surprised at how quiet this pub is, especially as it has a tv showing football on a regular basis, a few slot machines and a snooker table. There's plenty of room so kids can get up and wander. Outside there are tables as well. I'm always impressed by staff attitudes, never had a problem, in fact they've always been really friendly. Comfortable place to visit as a single female, which is a big plus in their favour.

Quality sport pub , has a pool table and bar games. Bar staff could be a bit friendlier. Food challenges gallore, go there for a bit of sport. There are 3 parts to the pub with a restaurant side and a sport side. Drinks are cheap and pitchers and cocktails are good value but not great quality.

Had the 36oz steak challenge (20 quid for so much food!). I wasn't expecting a great steak but it was actually amazing, and the last steak I had was Miller and Carter so high standards for steak at the moment 😂 Staff were great, unique setting being in an old castle, gave me a box to take food home when I had so much steak left and the prices for the meals were amazing! Would highly recommend

Had the million air burger and it was amazing I am taking in mind the price as it’s very cheap I spent the same amount as I spent in Burger King and you get much better value for money at the castle. A pub called The Castle which is an actual castle! Absolutely huge place as you’d expect despite being tucked away in the corner of a Sainsbury’s car park. The manager was extremely helpful seating us at short notice and the staff were all brilliant. I am not a steak fan, but my wife said hers was perfect. My vegan fish and chips was nice, and the bakewell tart pudding was spot on.

I come to the castle at least once most months. The food is a quantity over quality affair, but by no means bad. Its cheap, good enough and very filling. Drinks are on the cheaper side. Nice atmosphere. The building is different to the norm. Service is considerably above average. I'm sure there's a better venue in existence, but you could do so much worse.

Not quite so good today. Went last week on Saturday evening and was quite possibly the best steak I've ever had. There was a few items off the menu that they'd run out of. But they were busy so it was understandable and quite honestly I'm happy that I had the 10oz rib eye steak. It was absolutely delicious, we had a voucher so was brilliant value. Even without the voucher it would have been good prices. Went again today (Saturday late) afternoon and it was quite disappointing. They seemed to take ages to bring our food. Almost an hour. When they said there was a half hour wait. Well, then the cheesey garlic bread was undercooked and one didn't have cheese. But when they 'fixed it' we made do. I went for the 16oz rib eye this time. they cooked it more than I asked for. To be fair it was still delicious. So I didn't complain but my steak was medium well when I asked for medium rare. And my wife's was well done when she asked for medium. Again hers was really tasty and we didn't complain as we could see they were busy. They brought us extra mushrooms as we did mention the lack of them on the sizzler. So they were very helpful and tried to do the best they could. If any management or owners of the place read this. Get some more staff. They are obviously run off their feet and can only do so much. And they would bring in so much more more profits if they could keep up with the potential customers.

I generally only come here to watch the footie as the only other option locally is the Lodekka and that is always full of kids who never appear to have any supervision. The management has changed twice in the last year firstly for the better then almost back to where it was before hand. Ale appears to only be a choice of two fairly tasteless green king options seem to be permanent fixtures London Glory or IPA ( how anything under 4% can be considered an IPA is beyond me). There was a drinkable beer called east coast on free flow however that has had a glass over the tap for at least 10 days now. Food is good value but comparisons between the pictures/ description in the menu and what is served may suggest the chef short serves to protect his margins. Could be much better with attention to detail, Still the best place near by to watch the football.

I love the building of the black castle and would give it a higher rating as the food is cheap and the staff friendly. It drops a little as it's a little run down. It's a shame that the Sainsbury's car park backs onto it as otherwise it would be a lovely outside garden. Town planners of the past should be ashamed. Oh, also if you are a grab machine fan like me, it's got a great one, I won a Paddington, although I don't advocate gambling obviously.

All covid precautions are in place and staff are ensuring that customers adhere to it. We watched staff cleaning down after each customer and they were very thorough. The staff were literally run off their feet last night - such a great effort to feed so many diners now the Eat Out to Help Out scheme has kicked in. They’ve been ordered to halve staff numbers too! Great food and very sensible COVID precautions. We ordered food and drinks via the new app. We did have to cancel our dessert order as we waited too long but they were very apologetic and fair about it (and we’d eaten plenty!). Will go again.

I come here often and usually the service is good! However I recently had a very bad experience, we came here as group and followed all social distancing rules as we sat outside and ordered drinks from the app! First the wrong drinks came to our table after we explained that's not what we ordered the waiter Jack was very rude and argued until another table explained they were theres. I then ordered a single drink after waiting 20 minutes still no drink, so I explained to the Jack I was waiting on a drink in which he shrugged and said 'okay'. I then continued to wait a little longer and asked again if he knew how long it would be, he was then very rude again and told us to 'give me a break'. We spoke to the manger who was very good and we were then informed the situation will be sorted! My opinion has definitely changed on this place and will not be returning anytime soon!

Food is a decent standard for what it is (fried pub grub), the toilets are a disgrace though - very smelly and huge puddle of water on both my visits - perhaps a canoe could be provided to get to the urinals!
