Reviews of Folly
R. P.
I was in a group of 8, all food served in good time, cooked to perfection.
The dessert was difficult to resist and it was probably the best sticky toffee pudding I've had.
I shall be returning.
A. G.
A well run restaurant with a great atmosphere and friendly staff plenty of parking space and a large garden with seating and shelter the food was great and served promptly
R. S.
Nice pub. Decent car park size. Was able to book a large table at the last minute without any bother. Portion sizes were good and prices were reasonable. Only slight gripe was a bit of a wait for food. But as it was a large group amd all the food came out around the same time can't complain to much.
J. W.
Really expensive drinks, slow bar service and small portions of food (had to send my bowl of chips back which had around 10 in there and was £3.50!) Also never any crisps!
However, the pub does have a nice atmosphere and a nice garden to soak up the sun in. The bar staff are friendly and always nothing is too much of an ask. If they could look at the prices (£3.90 for a pint of coke!!!) And portion sizes it would be an 5 star venue.
N. W.
We had trouble initially getting a server bit when we did things were fine. The food was lovely and the menu had a good selection. It was pretty quiet when we went which we prefer. Will take our dog next time as it's dog friendly and there were dog treats at the bar.
K. C.
The food was nice, even if the menu didn't have that many veggie options. We found something to suit. The surroundings were lovely and the welcome member of staff very friendly. The waitering staff weren't very friendly and after our main meals were cleared we were left for an hour without being offered a pudding or drinks menu.
T. M.
I had requested a quieter table which was fulfilled. We arrived with an extra person which was sorted immediately. The waitress was attentive and helpful and the food was really good. So well done The Folly!
G. W.
Popped in for a late lunch while the car charged over at the science park. Lovely greeting and nice, relaxed surroundings. Both chose the veggie burger which was very nice, served with skinny, or in my cases chunky chips and coleslaw. Yum! Definitely worth a visit.
E.
I'd give four stars for the bar and two for the food so three seems like a fair average. The staff were friendly and helpful and service was good. There are vegetarian and vegan options but after having eaten I noticed the (very) small print at the bottom of the menu saying they use the same fryers/pans for veggie stuff as they do meat.
s. c.
The food and drinks were lovely, but when you were a carvery the price and bill was substantially less, probably a third cheaper.
Also the restaurant was always packed and fully booked on a Sunday afternoon, unlike yesterday. So from a business point of view if it worked why change it.
E. H.
We had a lovely Sunday lunch, the meat was so tender it melted in your mouth the Veg was excellent. My husband had Garlic Mushrooms for a starter and they were done to perfection, We also had a dessert I had the Banoffee ice cream cheesecake, it was delicious
D.
Our server was outstanding would honestly come back just for her customer service skills alone. She made us feel so welcome and special and knew the menu very well. Would definitely recommend.

We came as a group of 15 to celebrate my Mums's 70th birthday. The staff were very welcoming, the food was lovely and came very promptly. We were able to enjoy the evening without being rushed off which was wonderful as its the first time we have all been together since before Covid. We will definitely be back again and we thank you.
m. w.
The service was quick and friendly. The food was quick and well presented. Plenty of it. Disappointed they didn't have the apple and pear crumble so my wife didn't have a sweet either. On the web it says Marston's take NHS discount but no discount here. Apart from that a lovely Sunday lunch out. Not cheap but worth a visit once on your life x
R. B.
Such a shame, it really could have been fantastic. Was there for my sons girlfriends birthday celebration. We were all but forgotten. Our drinks order (taken from the table) were left at the bar. The gap between courses was far too long, and no new cutlery was provided between courses. When I asked for some, it was given to me from an empty table behind us! The quality of the food wasn't great either, if I had to guess, they probably didn't have enough staff to provide the service that evening. When we left and approached the server with our payment, we were met with, "I don't have any cash at this terminal, do you want your change?'......
N. B.
Absolutely love the Folly and we are privileged to have as our local. Great food, good selection of cocktails and staff friendly and attentive.
We visited today to make the most of the sun as The Folly also has a beautiful garden to soak up the rays.
L. B.
Really lovely food. Roast dinner was perfect. The service was impeccable. Highly reasonable desserts for the children.
Would say burgers slightly over priced though.
Really lovely food and wine and service.
S. M.
Good food and friendly helpful staff
Nice place to have a good lunch and be able to relax and chat with friends. Especially helpful waitress.. We go back thee because she is so nice. X
L. O.
Walked in to a busy pub, the staff were very accommodating and seated us very quickly. Food was brilliant and service even better. Highly recommend:
H. S.
The Shiraz was excellent.
The steaks were good.
The veggie curry was poor. Tasteless and looked like a ready micro curry. Rice was good.
BBQ Cauliflower florets were ok. Expensive for what they were.
Calamari was poor.
Table service was ok but nothing the best. The girl tried but didn’t seem very interested in us.
Unknowingly, We chose a quiz night and the compare was way too loud as was the music. Couldn’t hear dinner conversation.
The whole night was generally ok but not worth £141 for three of us. Poor value. Not the best. Mediocre food, great wine, terribly noisy.
Shame
s. b.
Over priced for size of portions meager salad and served up with no cutlery on table. also not asked if we wanted any sauces etc can't see us going back anytime soon, shame as the place is quite welcoming
K. H.
Food was delicious and served in a timely manner. Our server Marigold was warm and welcoming. A pleasure to spend the evening here.

I had a very pleasant experience with The Folly recently when I booked a table for 25 people for my partner’s 30th Birthday celebration. I communicated with The Folly via email throughout and they were always prompt at getting back to me and answering any questions that I had. We had to give our menu choices at the latest 4 days in advance which wasn’t an issue and we had the choice from their Main Menu. The staff on the day were as friendly, welcoming and helpful as the people I spoke to via email. The food came out quickly and warm and to a high standard considering we had such a large table. Not one of our party of 25 had any issues with any of their dishes and normally whenever I have gone out for a meal with a large party there has always been someone to complain so it was nice that everyone was happy. We had a few last minute adjustments on the day; the party number (was 27 people but when down to 25) and someone wanted to change their menu choice so we rang The Folly and they were more than accommodating to get this amended. We were seated on two separate tables parallel to each other in their conservatory area which was lovely as we were away from the main restaurant and the carvery wasn’t being used so there wasn’t a lot of people by our table. The food was reasonably priced and of great quality and I was pleasantly surprised by the food service. There was a slight error on our bill at the end but only where we had cancelled someone’s meal choices off the bill when we called in the afternoon but this wasn’t a major issue and they took it straight off. We didn’t get issued with a service charge like some food places. Overall I am very happy with the good customer service, food and atmosphere that I would definitely come back to The Folly again and would book to have a large party there again in the future.
I also went to The Folly for New Years Eve on 31/12/2018 for a 3-Course Meal and Live Music where again the food was lovely and reasonably priced and the staff were friendly.
J. C.
The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. Very nice evening
L. M.
Great food, I had the goats cheese lasagna and it was delicious 😋
Staff are really friendly and there’s a fabulous beer garden at the back
t. b.
The food is top quality, and the staff are very friendly and helpful
P. W.
This was my first visit to The Folly, fodd, service and atmosphere were excellent. I also had the best dessert I've had in years! Thank you.
l. b.
Fantastic Christmas dinner today. The food was wonderful, the staff worked very hard to make it a special day for us. I would fully recommend it for next year. Could not fault anything. Well done Folly.
Mrs Barwood.
L. S.
Staff were really polite/attentive and the food we had really cooked/presented well. Unfortunately I forgot to show the 30% main meals voucher I had when paying 🤦♀️. Really had an enjoyable meal though
S. R.
The service was prompt and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food was amazing and perfectly cooked. I love coming here!
A. G.
Since the plaxe has been unser new management it has really lovely pub food with an interesting twist in some flavours. Lovely cocktails and a fantastic range of drinks, particularly gin! The service was definitely the highlight with genuinely friendly people serving and one really nice man in particular who would initiate nice, honest conversation. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be back!
R. E.
Only stopped for a few cold one's but the welcome was magnificent. The smell of the Sunday Roast and the sight of some delightful looking plates made me very jealous.
Such a warm and cosy environment.
And there was a live singer creating a gorgeous backdrop with some absolutely classic songs. Nice touch.
M. W.
Needed to break up our journey as my Daughter was feeling car sick, you were the first pub we came across. Really impressed, beautifully decorated and clean. All of the staff really friendly and helpful. Good choice of food available and 2 & 3 course deals. I went for the fish finger sandwich which was just gorgeous, thick fillets of fish in lovely bread and the chips were the best ever! My Daughter went for the cheese burger and again, lovely home made food. Really filling too! Very reasonable prices. It will definitely go on my list for a return visit.
S. y.
The menu was limited. When we were handed the menu no-one said that the only pie available was ham and leek. Out of about 8 choices. This was frustrating..then felt rushed to pick another choice. Had the chilli which was pulled beef but had a lot of fatty strips in which was not very pleasing.
Staff were pleasant enough but seemed to be going through the motions rather than engaging with the customers.
I have eaten at the Folly before and not had such a bad experience it has to be said. I am hoping that this is a one off?
K. L.
Popped in here with the dog during a walk. I had a 30% off voucher from the website. Really fancied a pie but the gentleman at the bar informed me that the pie i wanted was currently unavailable but that the peppered pie was really nice so i tried that. It was better than i expected it to be and was really happy with this recommendation. Nice pint of IPA too
S. M.
We visited here on Thursday evening. The food was delicious but the service was atrocious. A good time was had by all of us despite the poor service. We were still eating desserts at about 10.15 pm and trying to pay at the tills was a nightmare which made it a very late night.
A. S.
Brilliant friendly staff, attended to every need. Good range of drinks, and food is delicious, freshly cooked.
K. Q.
Really delicious food in a lovely beer garden. Excellent selection and nice to have picpoul as an offering for white wine by the glass!
B. C.
Had a really nice family meal here after being recommended by a friend. Erdinger on tap is a plus as well
M. D.
Family meal on Sunday, service was vary good, choice of meats overall meal was excellent, will return soon.
G. V.
Staff are very friendly and attentive, food was excellent .Would highly recommend going as a treat .
J. E.
fab service and food this evening! Lucy was really polite helpful, will definitely be coming again. 10/10
A. J. K.
went there for sunday lunch, good quality beer, pleasant staff, but food definitely over priced ,
R. 2.
Breakfast with Santa was amazing the children loved the whole experience, it was our first time to the Folly and we will be back, beautiful pup with friendly staff, and great food.
D. S.
Good friendly service. Enjoyable food. Clean comfortable setting. Clean WC’s
G. P.
Just had a two course meal here both courses absolutely perfect as where the staff would definitely recommend
s. h.
Prices have gone up since we last went there it was £12.40 for a pint of larger and a glass of wine, sorry won't be going back again I could have bought 2 bottles of wine for that I know they have to make a profit and are recovering from covid but that is extortionate
M. K.
Really nice Easter Sunday lunch. Beautiful meat and veg selection good as well
A. M.
Absolutely fantastic from start to finish, the service was spot on and the steaks were amazing (mine a little undercooked, but still tender and enjoyable). And the lemon sundae 😍.. will 100% be back
L. B.
Very nice food but served on cold plates.
E. W.
Food was delicious but the staff were very miserable.
K. B.
Have been coming here on and off for years as i have moved in and out of the area. Such a nice looking pub and a great selection of drinks! we have started coming regular for quiz nights and have made it a regular treat to eat out on these nights
G. W.
A lovely place to eat and relax, great atmosphere and excellent food!
J. N.
Food was good and the staff were friendly, unfortunately just not very good at service. We were sat outside. It's a large premises both inside and out and I think they had about four servers on. They needed to have some dedicated to inside, and some to outside service. We spent far too much time waiting around to order, both with drinks and food. From arrival, we waited 40 minutes to order our food. We had to go inside twice to ask about ordering puddings and about paying. Plates left u cleared between courses, potential extra drinks orders missed. Both times staff were just chatting in a group. Like I said, the serving staff were lovely, but their apparent laziness is letting down their chefs.
M. C.
Very nice Sunday carvery and very friendly and helpful staff at 'The Folly'. Drinks prices a little on the expensive side but not a bad selection.
D. G.
Service was slow, but expected for a large group. Our order was taken down wrong so three of our group who had ordered one vegan item actually received another vegan item. Just to make it easier we accepted the wrong order and they made sure we paid for the original dish which was cheaper.
A. C.
The service was outstanging, food was excellent and staff professional would recommend to anyone who wants a good atmosphere and great food
M. M.
Thank you to Damien and the staff at the Folly for a beautiful Sunday lunch, had a great time .
I. S.
We haven't been here since the last lockdown and went today (15th August) for Sunday Roast, we were skeptical because it wasn't the carvery they were famous before but a plated roast! We were very impressed, the flavours were amazing ad the service was too. Have already booked for next week!
j. b.
Pub has improved a great deal over the past few years. Food is good, if not a little overpriced. It's the kind of place you'll go for a treat rather than something you'd do on a regular basis.
T. W.
We waited 10 mins for table service but no one came. It was not that busy. When we booked on the website it says Carvery but it is not. Only one piece of broccoli, no cauliflower, no stuffing.
K. A.
Lovely pub, food great and brilliant service.
G. R.
Very quick by all staff, however our sever Katy made our visit!! Friendly, professional and very helpful!
S. P.
Lovely staff, great food, very nice inside and a spacious garden
I. S.
Nice atmosphere , friendly staff , good choice of beers & lovely food
J. L.
I posted a few weeks ago as we had a bad experience and we were invited back to rectify, food was lovely this time, cod gourjons were particularly nice and food was hot, thank you for responding.
S. S.
Well having read previous reviews I was worried, BUT I have to say there was no need, last night we had 10 excellent meals, steaks were perfectly cooked, chips were crispy on the outside fluffy in the middle, the vegetarian pies were both excellent, having tasty fillings and perfect pastry cases, fish & chips was crispy batter around succulent fish, those of us who had starters enjoyed pots of tasty creamy mushrooms with plenty of bread to mop up the sauce or yummy chicken wings, all of us enjoyed good sized deserts and all whilst a singer entertained us with a mix of songs, Absolutely fabulous night all round, definitely will be returning.
J. s.
Nice atmosphere and are able to hear each other when having a get together. Great menu totally spoilt for choice. Eaten here many times and will continue to.
S. W.
As soon as we arrived we were greeted warmly and taken straight to our table the young girl who served us was polite, the food and drinks we had were excellent we are having our festive menu there on the 18/12 with our friends and are thoroughly looking forward to it.
Z. H.
The food was lovely & everything arrived as we ordered it but the service let the whole night down
C. B.
Just been in today. Julie was great. Lovely lady. Well looked after. After other places I have been whatever I wanted she got. Definitely would recommend this place.
N. W.
Great food, very friendly and service was amazing
E. B.
Great service from Lucy this evening. Very polite and helpful. 10/10 would recommend.
R. M.
Great food and service, best Sunday roast I have had!
J. H.
Our meal was excellent and the staff are all very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Lovely surroundings and decor
J. P.
Lovely service and good food. Lauren was full of smiles and was always on hand if anything was needed.
S. S.
U need to book for Sundays very busy nice food 👌
C. S.
Stopped for a quick lunch, great value. Lovely and warm escape from the awful weather.
R. W.
Good food and beer, bar staff 👍
S. H.
Good service. Very mindful of a friend with allergies. Food was good pub food I enjoyed my fish and chips although I thought it was a little expensive
A. M.
Had a family meal this evening, all food was delicious.
Will definitely be back again!
L. B.
Great food and excellent service. The only negative I could possibly say was that the toilets were quite dimly lit and cold.
M.
Food was nice enough, friendly waiter 😊
L. V.
Staff are great, some food is nice some is not. Didnt enjoy the roast dinner but the burgers are nice, lasagne is nice and hunters chicken and steak is nice. Didnt like the Korean chicken burger. Estrella dam is £5 a pint, gold is £4.45. Pints lemonade about £3.00. So mixed bag, but nice pub, huge garden plenty of space. Under new management and great upheld covid rules!! Well done the folly.
J. H.
Great menu and drinks, staff helpful
K. L.
The outdoor area had sheltered zones with outdoor lighting. We came in for food and it was nice inside too. They have a box of reading glasses to borrow if needed - great idea! 😊
M. G.
Good choice of food, nice selection of beers. Table service and friendly staff.
d. s.
A very nice lunch today, lovely a warm a great escape from the rain.
A.
Excellent service and nice food. A little overcooked but the friendly and helpful service was the best I've ever had.
J. M.
Went for a few casual drinks, have been here many times, it's alright, garden is nice, find it odd that they dont use an app for drinks orders right now, you have to order at your table and then go and pay at the door, bit of an odd setup really.
R. W.
Very welcoming and friendly time throughout the visit from all the young ladies on duty Monday 1 November 2021 Quality of food very good generous portions also.
C. G.
Great food, friendly staff, clean and presentable seating areas, 10/10
S. A.
A really nice local pub with friendly staff. Only concern was that the vegan burger came with sauces on the side that turned out not to be dairy free. Otherwise it was good.
J. M.
Delicious sunday dinner and the staff were all very friendly, we had a great welcome from the man on the door
S. G.
Highchair was filthy, had bits of food still so over it, I had to flash wipe it myself. Not keen on wooden highchairs in restaurants they always feel sticky and tacky to touch. The staff watched whilst I cleaned it as well. The food is much better than it used to be, and it's great for a pub lunch. I probably wouldn't go there for a special occasion
M. H.
Me & Wife had a Sunday roast dinner, only two choices of meat Turkey or Beef, food was not hot, warm at best, asked for extra gravy as very little on plate & was charged extra 50p for this. Never have had to pay extra elsewhere. Very disappointed with our food here. Won't be going back anytime soon
A. L.
Meal and service was fine although not much selection for early Saturday evening as had sold out of at least 5 mains and some desserts
L. T.
Had a lovely meal with family, staff very polite and helpful, nice atmosphere looking forward to going back.
J. C.
Really lovely meals, perfectly cooked.
Lovely friendly staff in a relaxed atmosphere.
Thank you, will call in again. :)
R. B.
Difficult to rate overall when Covid restrictions impose different rules. We had a table for 6 and ordered different mains and deserts. Food arrived together, it was hot, good quality and plentiful, service was quick. Odd arrangement having to clear our own table and staff not wearing ppe but overall happy.
M. B.
Great pub and good food!
l. k.
It is a fabulous place. Food was absolutely delicious and came out hot..
We had a small Christmas party dinner, well worth what we paid. Atmosphere was lovely and decor was really nice. Will be really nice in the summer to sit outside in their pub garden. I shall be definitely going back to this place.
M. S. (.
Not fantastic customers, but the staff were helpful. Wait times were long and the online system was broken, but possibly because they were busy? Food was mostly pretty good.
P. w.
Nice pub, friendly staff, food OK but not as good as last time we went, the steak 8oz for £18 was a bit boring and the roasted tomatoes were just cold fried normal tomatoes, a bit of rocket leaf salad , no mushroom and just a few chips, the sauce was extra. Cheese cake was frozen in the middle but was nice. Ok average I guess, had better in wetherspoons to be fair.
L. H.
Friendly atmosphere and hot fresh food.
J. H.
Nice food, good looking and clean pub, can't wait to go for my next roast dinner
J. E.
Friendly staff. I took my elderly great auntie for lunch. Her fish fillet was tiny under lots of batter for £11, but my lamb kebab was beautifully presented, really tasty with well marinated meat and fresh interesting flavoured delicious salad. I'd say portions were not generous, but adequate for us.
S. B.
The meal was ok , but rather " bland " The leeks were in a tasteless white sauce and the rest of the veg looked " tired " and lacked taste
The beef was rather tough to cut , but , as long as you had good teeth , was quite flavoursome .The turkey was good , as were the toast potatoes !
I have visited a number of times over the past few years , and was rather disappointed with the meal after previous good experience!
I am not given to negative feedback , but on this occasion , I feel I have to share my experience with you in the hope that improvement may be achieved for future diners !
e. w.
Nice friendly pub , food oriented .
S. E.
I came to the folly for food and drinks with the family and the service provided by Katie and Ellie was fantastic they were very helpful 🙂
A. G.
Éxpensive and car park a shambles. Kids running about in assisted
T. S.
Last minute booking of a table on Saturday evening, for 6 people, on recommendation from family.
Greeted by very helpful and jolly staff. They were very busy but somehow managed not to keep us waiting. Especially thanks to Christine and Carly. I hope that I have remembered your names correctly.
Value for money with some well cooked, beautifully presented, food. Well done Chef 👍
Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a good pub meal. You can view the menu online and book online too.
Exceeded my expectations. Thank you.
w. c.
Food was very good. A bit pricey. Background music was far to loud. For this reason would not go again. A shame, not very relaxing.
C. G.
Lovely food. Great service friendly staff
m. p.
Lovely food and friendly staff
A.
Excellent service from the staff & lovely pub grub. 4 stars
A. M.
Good pub, there was a nice selection of drinks, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. I plan on going back soon
M.
Lovely garden with a couple of covered seating and areas under tree's. Great food and fast and efficient service. Definitely need to book in advance.
A. P.
Lovely Sunday roast, shame they no longer do a carvery, but plenty on the plate at a reasonable price. Not exceptional, but pretty good.
K. M.
Nice food, great service and not over run with children, just what we like!
H. P. S.
Brilliant food. Bar service brilliant. Food service okay.
s. l.
A great place for a Sunday roast.
J. H.
I meet a friend here about once a month, for lunch.
The food is excellent and staff pleasant and helpful
K. G.
Good environment and meals have always been very good. Menu isn't varied enough as when you've been there a few times you end up ordering what you've had before. Drinks can get expensive but I suppose that's the same everywhere. Can also get very busy and when it does it's a very noisy place to have a meal.
c. h.
Went for Sunday Carvery, booking
essential would say as person behind could not be accommodated.
There are two sizes of carvery at £ 10.75 and £ 12.25 .
Very nice ambiance and the carvery meat was beef , gammon and Turkey with the usual vegetables .
All well presented and all of our party said how good the food was.
L. R.
Pleasant, friendly service. Good food & good value, I haven't been for years but will definitely return soon.
S. J.
Quick friendly service despite being quite busy. Food lovely and good size portions. Only thing is that the children's menu is limited and quite small for an 8 and 10 year old resulting in our son needing an adult meal as he wanted a burger
M. E.
Great food good staff
P. Y.
Good service. Food reasonable but have had better for the price. Although I would not say it was over priced. Big servings. A little overcooked for our liking. But this may not always be the case. And there was certainly nothing we would complain about as such.
P.
Great pub for a quick bite to eat at lunchtime.
We sat in the garden area and I've knocked off one star as there was some broken glass on the ground.
Staff and food were excellent.
H. P.
Went for a Christmas dinner with work friends. We had pre ordered our food as requested, however the food didn't come out as we'd ordered, the kids meals were left off and the food wasn't that hot. I'm so sorry, I genuinely don't normally complain about things, but it could have ruined the evening.
We were however situated in a fairly quiet and private area which ment the children could play a bit, the gentleman serving us was lovely, really apologetic and friendly.
We had a nice evening overall but the food could have been better.
D. G.
Good food ,very friendly staff, well worth a visit
C. I.
A group of us had lunch here, which we had pre-ordered. Whilst the lunch itself was fine, (mine was a sandwich with chunky chips), the place had a chronic lack of staff. This meant that service at the bar was slow, and lunch was served later than expected. The staff were willing, but could not cover all the tasks.
J. A. P. W.
Food was good and staff friendly
P. W.
Arriving 6:30pm we were greeted and shown to a table stright away which was great as I was starving! I was with the missus and I ordered fish and chips for myself only to be told minutes later they had none! I found this disappointing as well as surprising considering the time of day we turned up! The staff were very nice though and I went on to order chicken which was available...
M. C.
Food was well cooked, but sizes varied between orders of the same meal.
Deserts were nice but were not as described in the menu, eg caramel sauce instead of chocolate, and standard vanilla ice cream rather than vanilla pod
S. P.
Food very slow to be ordered and served
I. G.
Very nice meal. A lovely, friendly young waitress.
A. H.
Didn't seem to have enough staff. It was 35-40 mins before we were given menus and then quite a time before order taken. Food came out reasonably timely. Starters were good, mains 2 of us had Bourginon, 5 pieces of
meat in it, mainly carrot and oddly, served with carrot! Steaks, 2 were good, 1 very grissly. Have been for carvery previously and that was good.
G. S.
Brilliant atmosphere, lovely food and quality beer. Great buzz in the place.
C. W.
Called in for a meal. Staff were friendly, didn't have to wait long for the food to come out and it was just the right size portion.
S. N.
Little bit disappointed with the carvery. After reading some of the reviews saying how lovely it was we decided to give it a go. We found it not to be that great especially for the price you pay. The veg was very dry and the gravy very tasteless. Have found better for less money.
A. W.
Clean a bit staid food acceptable.
Nothing out of the ordinary
K. H.
Honestly... The best it's ever been for Sunday carvery. Loads better than the huntsman and alot better value than the holly bush.
Really good for big groups.
Good job folks. We will be there more regularly.
S. Z.
Absolutely brilliant. Amazing food, great service. Highly recommended to everyone
R. I.
Had a very nice meal tonight. Staff were excellent both behind the bar and serving the food. The food was very nice, well presented and tasty. Will definitely go back and recommend this place to all.
A. P.
Prebooked table for 14 which was well organised and staff were very good from start to finish in particular Grace who couldn’t be more helpful.
Food was great only downside was the chocolate mousse but alternatives were given.
The staff were also very conscientious about the nut allergy that one of the party has.
Great visit and I recommend
C. K.
Really enjoyed the new decor and menu. They've clearly spent a lot of time and money to up their game. The korean BBQ burger is awesome, and the sharing platters are literally the best things ever!
One suggestion, the car park and garden are the wrong way round, meaning the garden is in the shade (by the noisy kitchen extractor fan). If the two areas could be swapped, the garden area would get all the sun, and cars would benefit from the shade, keeping cooler. I do realise this would cost tens of thousands of pounds to do of course...

We went there in early August on a Sunday lunchtime, didn't have a booking we just winged it. OMG the place was packed, it was heaving. We were approached by a member of staff, who amazingly found my wife and I a table in ten minutes. We had the carvery, which was hot, fresh and plentiful, bar service was good, with a good range of beers, lager and cider. Toilets where clean. There's plenty of free car parking here, also has a nice garden for the kids play in. ps if you find this review helpful, please give it a 👍

Great service from our waitress. Food was excellent and well prepared. Cannot fault this at all. Coming from South Africa is a pleasure when you get service like this.
A. J. C.
Food and service were excellent. Their lunch menu was amazing value and fabulous quality. I will definitely be returning and recommend that you visit soon, you'll not regret it 😊
M. W.
Nice friendly pub with a great selection of food
M. G.
Very friendly staff and very good food at competitive prices. Three of us had different meals and we all had ample tasty food. Well worth a visit.
T. H.
Good service although menu stated ham egg and chips but was given Gammon, egg and chips as that was what was given instead of ham
P. D.
We had an excellent carvery meal, with a good choice of vegetables apart from the most appalling roast potatoes. They were burnt and still hard in the middle. Very disappointing.
V. J.
Lovely food.
Attentive staff.
K. J.
Came for steak night, great service and a good mixed grill! So much meat on it!

My old review is below so do read it but a month later a revisit didn't see The Folly at its best. Admittedly they were 2 staff members down but missing an order off our mains (they did strike it off when I came to pay) is just a bit sloppy and overcooked (bhajis and flatbreads both shall we say crisper than well a crisp) isn't what normally happens when you're bodies down. I'll try the place again in another month and update this but I'm not convinced my party of 10 will be accepting my invite.
Old review:
Another day another dinner. The Folly's under new management so time to see how the new fairs with the old. Out has gone the large central table and a lick of paint and I guess it does look a bit better. Last time I visited here I almost crashed the Audi after being distracted by the nippers arguing in the back - no such distraction today since I'm sans enfants so on with the eating. The extended family were not happy with the light coming in through the windows so complained - no problem sir, we'll move you to another table (1-0 to the Folly). My choice of beer wasn't on and no 2nd real ale (1-1). After ordering the waiter told those of us on carvery tickets we'd get the nudge 5 minutes before the remaining meals would come out (2-1). The chicken and chorizo pasta was average based on poor sausage choice by the chef but the curried swordfish was above average if a touch high on the scoville scale due to the chilli (possibly bird's-eye chillis sliced raw?) so a draw here. Service was cheerful and efficient (if changed half way through) but some drinks were missed off the first attempt at the bill (another draw I'm afraid). OK - what I'm saying is they're trying hard but they need to brush up on a few little things if they want repeat visits from larger parties. I know how difficult it is to please groups of people - nobody was dissatisfied here - the grub was decent mid-range pub fair - but you need to keep rubbing if you want the polish to shine. It's good to see it nicely busy though since I hate seeing pubs doing badly - we have a serious responsibility to keep them ALL open. Trebles all round...

Nice food quick service
D. P.
We came here on a Tuesday evening and had lovely meal. The service was great with very friendly staff.
It's a place where we will definitely come back to.
Thanks for a nice evening.
C. A.
Fantastic service and menu. All food prepared fresh to order at good prices. Two mains and two coffees £16.50.
Excellent atmosphere and value for money. Highly recommended.
A. M.
I was surprised to find that the prices were considerably more than that of The Landing Light at Weston Super Mare on exactly the same menu
D. C.
Great little pub, staff really friendly, lovely food, fantastic atmosphere- locals friendly and welcoming.
New manageress has kept up the high standards well done Emily.
J. D.
Love it... food drink staff. Only thing I would have liked was my pink gin & lemonaide was not in a gin glass, my first one not to too fust as was in a crystal glass but then it was bog standard 1.5 glass with no fruit.
Although it wouldnt stop me going again. Cheers.
G. H.
Delicious chips! Service was a bit slow but nice atmosphere in the garden and good covid measurers in place.
R. “. K.
Good quality pub grub. Enjoyed it Definitely recommend to a friend.
J. L.
Very good meal and experience
S. V.
Nice rustic place. Had the steak and it was cooked to perfection! Very good in my eyes all round. Drinks aren't too expensive either. (Get the Amstel not the Estrella)
G. V.
Went for a meal with my sister and her husband today as I'd not been there for a while we were made to feel very welcome on arrival by the staff, they hàd a good menu selection the food was very good and the prices were very reasonable, will definitely be going there again soon 🙂
A. H.
3 of us had a lovely meal. New measures are well thought out. Staff are helpful and polite. Well worth a visit
A. G.
Well, where do i begin. First time out for us on christmas day, and will be our last. Manager lovely food was served well, but unfortunatley a hugh family decended on us load and ill manner, we were obviously unlucky sat where we were. They did try very hard to move us but nothing available. We were given a complementary bottle of wine which was very kind. Just very unlucky on the day.
S. F.
6 of us as a family including 2 children went for a meal. Menu served between 12 and 4pm. excellent value 3 course £10.service provided by Julie was excellent.
D. K.
Food on lunch menu was good for the price. Bar was silly slow but down to under staffing rather then the bar maid who was apologetic for the delay.
N. C.
Only popped by for drinks, but very nice indeed. Outside seating and Covid friendly.
S. N.
Not overly impressed. Hallumi was cold... took ages to be served, it was busy.
M. H.
The best pint of Amstel outside Kent!
Discovered Thatchers Gold +++++
L. R.
We visited the Folly on route from Southampton to Bristol for a stag do. The service provided by all staff was exceptional, and we were made to feel really welcome. The food menu and specials board offered a great variety of choice. I enjoyed the piri piri chicken with pit beans which was amazing. I would especially like to reserve a comment for Geoffrey Perkins who served us throughout the night, his service was brilliant, totally customer centric and did everything he could to accomodate us. If ever in the area again will definitely pop in!
P. S.
Lush food,friendly staff x
B. M.
Couldn't fault anything. The food was well presented and tasty. Service great. It's my new favourite place to go.
S. K.
Food was mediocre. Fish was dry because it had been cooked for too long. Service was a bit slow, even though they weren't busy. Overpriced for what you get.
J. W.
My husband took my mum and myself for Sunday carvery. The roast was excellent and we shall definitely be going back soon.the staff are very helpful and friendly and the pub has a great atmosphere.
S. W.
Recently refurbished, this pub is always busy so booking is recommended. A really friendly team of staff are on hand to ensure you are well catered for and the carvery is divine.
S. S.
The welsh guy that answet the phone qhen we booked and greeted us when we arrived was fab. Food and drinks were good whilst sat in the sun
J. T.
Our server Geoff was fantastic and gave some really good tips when it came to dishes we would enjoy. Definitely recommend this pub!
T.
Good menu choice... can get busy with parties this time of year of course. Good value all around although not what it used to be... but still somewhere we will return to.
c.
High quality food at a reasonable price. Really nice atmosphere and decor, only let down by unattentive waiting staff last night! We had to go pay at the bar as there was nobody near the tables for about 30 minutes.
L. E.
Lovely food and great atmosphere.
C. A.
Lovely and friendly bright place
D. K.
Was okay, disappointing that you can only have the lamb carvery if you have the large carvery. Beef and gammon was very good but some of the veg wasn't 4/5 stars standard.
A. B.
We didn't booked for Sunday roast dinner but there was no problem for them to find us a table, lovely food & service josh is brilliant,
P. H.
Nice food and clean restaurant
D. W.
Nice Sunday lunch in pleasant surroundings with great staff
M. S.
Very helpful management, helped me out of a tricky situation. Food's great too, ate here twice prior to lockdown while waiting for appointments at nearby NHS.
I. G.
The food and value was good but given that the pub gets busy on a Sunday after a recent refit the service was very slow. Otherwise a five star rating.
J. B.
Table for 1, waited ages to be served. Food ok, no staff came to ask if everything was ok. Table bedside me waited an age to. Staff just milling around. Paid Bill at the car and left. I'll give it another chance I think.
A.
Great food. Was very impressed with staff. Nice environment overall.
J. J.

M. C.
Not good experience our party arrived at 12 30 had to ask someone to take our order eventually had food at 1.45 part of the order so I had t9 wait another 20 mins for a replacement food was good but the rustic bread advertised was two slices of dry sliced bread everything was so slow we did get our coffees free so thanks for that but they really need to have more staff and brush up their customer service
S. S.

c. w.
The dessert was delicious. Would be four stars but it was lacking in vegetarian choices for the main meal.
A. O.
Lovely staff. Nice setting. The food was overpriced for what it was which is why it's a 3 star review.
M. B.
The food and drinks are the best. And they serve quite big portions that fill me up 100%. And they have a great selection of foods.
