Reviews of Hen & Chicken
G. S.
Brilliant space for a birthday bash. Best mate hired the back half of the venue, with its own bar and the patio/outdoor area. The young lady that was the bartender at our bar was really quite brilliant and made such a great effort for all the guests; demonstrating great energy and professionalism! Only downside, was responses to emails were not very timely from the management and my friend found they needed to chase the venue continuously to make the booking.

I love this place. The bar start are friendly and welcoming and happy to discuss alternatives when asked. I ventured upstairs to the Comedy Box to watch Lucy Porter in Be Prepared. What a fun evening. Steve and his team put on great shows and run a smooth venue.
G. H.
Hosted my 30th party in The Chicken Shed and it was amazing!
Great staff that could not be more helpful when it came to allowing decorating companies in on the day of event and arranging everything leading up to it.
I’ve been a customer of Hen & Chicken for many years and can safely say I will continue to be so. Would recommend the party space for hire to anyone
Thank you H&C team 🙌🏼⭐️

Wow, the wood oven pizzas are amazing. One of the best margarita pizzas I've had. Soft but also crunchy. A must try!
L. L.
Amazing pub and venue. We went recently to see the legendary Chris McCausland and were amazed by the food and service we received. X
J. A.
Nicely decorated, cheerful staff, good food (halloumi fries) and clean toilets. Would have got 5* if hand drier was working but guess that will happen soon - but paper towels would have helped.

Bloody good night. Decent bar noisy but fun and lively. Food was good and reasonably priced . On the Saturday or at least on the Saturday night I was embibing there was a stand up comedy night. Two comics, table, booze and food what's not to like...
S. M.
Fabulous place, quality food which is really good value for money. The staff were all very friendly. We had excellent service from Ryan, he couldn't have been more helpful.
We are looking forward to coming again next time we are in the area.
B. C.
Went to the Studio to see Blue Remembered Hills. Fabulous play. Very quirky venue. The bar downstairs is nice and there's also the option of pizza if you're hungry.
H. L.
I hired the function room at The Hen and Chicken for my sisters hen do in August. There were 32 of us, and the room was perfect. The staff were so attentive and we had whatever we wanted. Having a private bar area was perfect as there was no queuing, and the courtyard provided an escape for the hens who still had a hangover from the night before! We chose to have the bbq option, and the food was amazing and great value for money (and they catered for all dietary requirements)
We were able to provide our own music, and they had their own DJ system complete with lights so that we were able to have the party feel.
We were able to get into the venue early to decorate it as we wanted, and then had the room until 1am.
The staff catered to our every need, and went above and beyond (especially our barman Gabriel, who was more than happy to judge games and competitions, and even made an effort for the fancy dress wearing his kilt!)
I can't recommend them highly enough!!
R. M.
Nice staff, good drinks choice and food looked good (stopped serving).
Could do with a pie cabinet for us chubbers when the kitchen closes. Saved by Co op next door before i ate my own face.
Will be back!
A. B.
Great lovely pub in the heart of bedminster. Tasty drinks and the food menu looked delicious.
H. S.
Bristol Removals came to our rescue when we moved at very short notice last month. Tony was superb to deal with from an organizing perspective being both personal and helpful when it came to estimating what they could fit into their van. Highly recommended!
A. S.
Mid-market gastro pub. Lots of good beers on including a couple of cask.
Menu fairly extensive with high quality burgers and pizzas. But sadly no fish and chips!
Pre-Bristol rugby game so got very busy and took 20+ minutes for a drink at the bar.
F. H.
The atmosphere was good. The entertainment was excellent. The food was late but then they made up for this so it was all good
M. C.
Dog friendly pub with good service from friendly staff. Great choice of food, including Sunday roast (with veggie options)
T. B.
Really nice place with great beer selection. Banging view from the terrace too which was a nice surprise. Will be back soon!
J. W.
Enjoyable starters, dirty fries portion small but tasty. Pizzas not our favourite, goats cheese pizza had too much onion - would try something else for main if revisiting.
m. s.
Relaxed atmosphere but lively enough, decent food and even more importantly good beer
S. R.
Had a great time here on my birthday, started my bar crawl here with some chicken and a pint. Friendly staff.
C. D.
Came on August bank holiday, the staff were obviously quite busy so service was slow but they were always lovely. The food was decent, definitely worth it during Eat Out to Help Out but I probably wouldn't pay full price for it.
The only complaint I have is that they served coke zero when we asked for normal coke, but that's just a personal preference.
J. M.
A strange atmosphere that is reminiscent of corporate bars in the US. There was also an unavoidable, foul (if slightly subtle) odor. The prices are fair and the staff seem perfectly capable, however. Cannot say I'll be going back.
C. B.
Beer was good, atmosphere was great and comedy show in the upstairs studio was hilarious. Highly recommended for a fun night out.
a. d.
Very good food. Great presentation. But it was a shame to have the obligation to order on via the app. Staff not doing anything and finally took my order.
S. M.
Great live comedy venue with an excellent choice of drinks.
A. S.
Great pub, good food and drink, tables could do with a wipe down a bit more often though. Also good to see they donate the walls to upfest each year too.
G. W.
Definitely one of the best pubs in South Bristol. Good selection of beers and top food.
S.
The Hen & Chicken Comedy Club is a great alternative to most places on a Saturday night. Every weekend they offer such a reasonably priced evening of entertainment - so you’re bound to find someone performing that you like.
Each time I’ve gone to the comedy night it’s been a bit of a lucky dip as I haven’t known who the comedians are but I’ve never been disappointed. For £12 early bird tickets you get a 2hr show and two great acts.
The only down side is there are only a couple of toilets so the queues in the interval are always something to contend with and the service at the bar is usually pretty slow!
A. J.
Saw Kerri Godliman. Great show. Booze fairly priced. Seats are mega uncomfortable though.
B. N.
Love the food, large beer selection on tap and great comedy nights!
K. T.
Great service good beer and food. Just what you need from a pub!
L. C.
Great 30th birthday party held in the chicken shed for my partner. Lovely cosy venue - having our own bar was perfect. Good space for a live band and to boogie the night away! The 2ft homemade pizzas were excellent and enjoyed by all. James and Nick were very helpful and made the party planning process smooth!
K. S.
Brilliant place.. greatvfood, great selection wine and beer.. World class well run comedy venue and brilliant jazz
T. J.
I actually went there for a Funzing Talk about Psychopathy! It was held upstairs in the bar in a room large enough to hold 200 of us. Fantastic experience all round! The bar itself is large, friendly staff and the drinks are reasonably priced.
I. T.
Good beer, good food and a jazz club on the premises. Nice
S. L.
Great buzz about the place. Food was amazing and great selection of beers and lagers.
A. S.
Chilled atmosphere, friendly staff and great food. Siobhan looked after us well and the food Marcin cooked for us was fantastic!
New kitchen staff, give it a go.
d. !.
Great food, great atmosphere and quick service
Bartender bodie was fantastic ❤️
T. M.
Went to see some comedy. Good beers, great crowd and fun times
C. W.
has awesome events going on, good drinks and nice customer service!
J. C.
To start, the food here is really great and at a reasonable price. However the service isn't even slow, there isn't any.
Once we were seated we waited 20 minutes for menus and recieved nothing until we got up and asked someone. Apologies, united with menus and told someone would take our order shortly, 40 minutes in and no drink and no sign of anyone again. Approached the bar, recieved with smiles, but everyone was busy making drinks and I got the impression we were meant to order from our table.
Ordered food (after chasing down a waitress), asking to change fries to chips, was told should be fine but would double check. Drinks eventually arrived followed by some delicious food only 1.5 hours after we had arrived. Dinner done, we were asked if we wanted to look at dessert menus, we said yes of course. No sign of them being delivered 25 minutes later so we got them ourselves. The desserts were good but the waffle is a third of its previous size.
To add insult to being ignored for the 3 hour duration of our meal, they had added double chips onto our bill and when it was queried I was told that they cannot make a change to the chips served with mains so I would have to pay the full extra price for them (why they couldn't of told me this when I ordered who knows).
All in all although we had a pleasant night in the company of friends and good food. Service and lack of communication really let down what could have otherwise been a 5 star review.
D. B.
Great pub. Has a real nice atmosphere and feel to it. Is normally very busy as its quite a popular pub. Drink choices are good, definitely worth a visit.
C. M.
Ran out of pizza but fries were good
J. L.
Great place with a good range of local pints! Lovely lay out and even does good entertainment!
N. T.
It was a great night , with the excellent James Oliver band followed by the sublime Geraint Watkins band to headlining which made a very memorable night .
A. B.
They do great pizzas..but try the meat tray and wasn't disappointed. We had beef which was so tender. Steak a bit pink but tasty. Meatballs ok with Chips coleslaw
Pork with tasty ribs
Chicken which was cooked perfectly..
Staff (molly and a chatty small young lady ) so helpful and friendly . A bit on the noisey side .. as place seems to echo abit . Will be back ..😊
A. E.
Great roast lunch at the Hen & Chicken. Friendly and approachable staff 😀.
J. N.
We visited the Comedy Box upstairs at the Hen & Chicken on 22nd May - our first outing since this lockdown shizzle has eased up - and we couldn't have asked for a better night. Great comedians in a personable venue and then downstairs to the Hen & Chicken pub to eat. The food was great (2 x burgers), service was quick and the staff were so friendly and smiley! Thanks heaps for hanging in there H&C - I hope you have an amazing summer x
A. W.
Had a nice pizza and a pint here whilst gazing out of the window watching the world go by. This was pre-comedy gig upstairs. Very enjoyable evening.
G. K.
This place is nice, with nice staff, nice seating and nice atmosphere. Fairly reasonable prises but not for the area and a fairly okay selection of drink, but again, not for the area (especially concerning ciders, but I love cider). Food is good here though for sure. Overall - very good service, nice atmosphere, alright drinks.
J. U.
Staff are friendly, they have a reasonable menu of burgers, pizzas and chicken, and they have a good selection of beers and lager. Went there in January and it was quite cold indoors. Had to sit right next to the radiator. The toilets aren't in great shape. The venue also does comedy nights that are good. It's a great local place to see up and coming comedians at a reasonable price.
B. C.
Recently went to the Hen and Chicken for my first roast since lockdown which I was very much looking forward to and I wasn't disappointed. Their Covud 19 compliance was excellent and I felt reassured eating there. Both my friend and I had the chicken roast which was wonderful. Presentation was 5 star and it was beautifully cooked with a delicious range of roasted vegetables and red cabbage. The staff were super friendly and helpful as well. As a Sunday roast venue it comes highly recommended from me! Well done!
J. M.
Nice place to come for a few drinks with friends
F. B.
Love, love, love this place. One of my favourite venues in Bristol for great drinks, lush food and live comedy all wrapped up in a great atmosphere.
Wonderful staff, dead friendly and know their stuff behind the bar. Big thanks to Nick and Ruby for being so welcoming. See you soon!
S. G.
Delicious pizzas, good selection of beers and ales and the back garden is looking gorgeous after some updates over lockdown! Friendly staff and great with covid regs to keep us all safe. Love it 💘
N. S.
Good food, drink and atmosphere!
M. M.
Nice bar and not too expensive. It's a rather lively place and not so good if you want somewhere quiet, as the bar area is basically one gigantic room. The food is usually pretty good, burgers and pizzas and the like. On my last visit though the burger was quite dry and the very sweet relish that went with it didn't improve things any. Come on the Hen and Chicken... Your usually better than this!
J. B.
Clean, friendly and fun. Great entertainment.
M. M.
Went to the comedy club upstairs. Very well organised and great comedians and compares. Separate entrance from.rhr actually hen and chicken. Get in there on time aa the doors will be closed. We had a great 👍😀 time
S. W.
Went from having one of the best pizzas in here to having one of the worst pizzas. Have been here for a roast which was pretty good. Nice bar and atmosphere. Been to one of my best comedy nights here also. Check this place out if at a loose end and not sure where to go. Staff could be more friendly. Slight miserable service when at the bar but if you can get past that then all is good.
b. 1.
Good beers. Lovely beer garden which is a great sun trap when the weather is nice. Always a pleasure to pop in for a swift one.
T. M.
I visited for the first time with my family and we had an excellent Sunday Roast. The food was delicious, well priced and the service was friendly and attentive. The Rocky Road Sundae was pretty impressive too.
Last year they issued some rules around kids, which were all fair enough but made me and my partner feel not too welcome should we want to visit with our children. Sadly this has meant we’ve not visited there with our kids since then.
J.
Just had a great roast dinner this evening! Happened to come as the Spotted Cow were full - this is at least as good!
The pub always has good and varied beer on tap, friendly staff and the food was excellent. My partner had the beef and really enjoyed it, I had the roasted butternut squash and thought it was delicious. So good to have something a bit more creative and more “Sunday roast” than a spiced lentil nut roast!
Great work and looking forward to coming back.
M. B.
Nice boozer, can be busy on weekends but there's ample space in the beer garden and down the side. Food is good, not fancy but certainly tasty and portions are a good size. Nice selection of ales and beers are kept very well. Good for catch ups and sessions!
S.
I ventured in for a pint last night (Saturday night) and due to the comedy that was on, it was predictably busy, however the bar staff work extremely hard, are efficient and fast and are smiling and polite throughout. The bar has an interesting selection of beers and ciders, not your usual run of the mill drinks, but different and tasty alternatives, so if you are looking for a pub with a good selection of different beverages, this is for you. I also had a chicken sandwich, as food is served until 10pm, and this was excellent - very tasty. The venue also has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend it.
D. M.
The beer selection is getting better every time I come back. Can’t go wrong with their amazing spirit and cocktail selection. Great pub grub. Staff really helpful. The bar man, Carwyn helped suggest an amazing rum to end the night, Don Papa. Delicious
D.
Great little garden and chick burger was lush
J. W.
Ideal place to get a hangover-curing burger and a local ale hair of the dog pint. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the food was great and really well priced, and the support of local breweries is really welcoming.
C. T.
Have so far never failed to get a table in here for Sunday lunch, though you might want to book if it's a match day at Ashton Gate. The pork belly sunday lunch is just marvellous! Good beers too.
K. T.
Good Food good staff service thanks All
K.
Great venue, good buzz and energy about it with small but we'll formed comedy club above. Staff are friendly, food is good and overall nice spot. Very good for a large group as plenty of space and more adult focussed.
C. W.
Came here with my boyfriend and had the duck and hoisin pizza, very nice. Had a delicious beers recommended by nick, love a pale ale
Only found out about this place because it was in the news about their children policy. I have to say I agree with them. Many of our date nights have been ruined by kids running wild.
G. P.
I should have read the menu, £10 for a burger?! Donde es papas fritas? Good for a beer, cheese.
S. D.
Food was really nice! Staff was also friendly
E. G.
Nice and buzzy pub, lovely pizzas, which are better quality than the rest of the menu. Always busy day or night. Comedy club upstairs is good value with some class acts and outside seating area is great for people watching
D. W.
Pizza and staff are lovely, miss the other menu options (might have just been a Sunday though)
k. v.
Great place to hangout plis dogs aloud
R. E.
Interesting decor with modern, fairly generic, gastro pub pale grey woodwork downstairs, and an upstairs venue that is classic 70s-80s browns.
Bar staff were at best disinterested.
Beer was good.
C. H.
I've been regularly stopping in here for years and have always found it to be friendly, well priced with a good selection of drinks. The food is excellent both in variety and quality.
Update: Disappointing on my last few visits the quality of the food has dropped off of late. It's been a combination of missing or very late orders and a disappointing Sunday roast.
P. G.
Great comedy club location, if a little cramped around tables, but excellent comedians. Beer was well priced. Also easy to get to Ciry Centre on 24 bus...what more could you ask
S. C.
Not my cup of tea . Clean and friendly
D. H.
great venue, always with a good selection of beers. Always seems to have a good vibe and atmosphere when I go here, and two for one pizzas on monday is always a good treat to get over the first day back at work! I havent been for comedy, but plan to do so in the next few months
C. F.
Great pizzas & burgers, I much prefer the atmosphere during the week as the high ceilings seem to make it louder than other places when it gets full.
Normally have a couple of guest ales on, a few more would be great.
Terrace to the side and garden at the back.
I'd recommend it to anybody for the food rather than for the beer,
A. S.
Great comedy gig. Good set up at venue. Felt safe and enjoyed ourselves.
J. N.
Previously had given 3 stars due to food, it’s not the best but it is cheap. However the Hen and Chicken always have the friendliest, most helpful staff ever, and you never need to wait long even when it’s busy. Lots of seating, nice outdoor area and great comedy nights upstairs.
R. K.
We went to see Paul Sinha on 20th April 2018. The gig was great but sadly we had to leave before Paul's Q&A session had finished.
If you haven't seen Paul then definitely go - he is a class act with a finely crafted show. He also seems like a genuinely nice bloke which is a real bonus.
The venue takes a long time to enter - up the stairs and down a corridor. This was due to it being jam packed full. The atmosphere was buzzing and everyone seemed to having a great time.
Getting a drink isn't easy. I gave up at the bar downstairs and instead went tried the upstairs bar (on two occasions). Eventually I grabbed a drink. Thing is, at least they have two bars which really helps.
It is quite cramped but the air conditioning is great and keeps the venue nice and cool - otherwise it would have been sweltering.
I do hope the management and organisers read these reviews because I would like extend my thanks. We had walked almost three miles through Bristol to the pub and hadn't realised quite how far it was. I asked if it was easy to get a cab back and the lady on ticketing suggested I speak to the manager. He gave me the name of a great cab firm and said I should book well in advance. I did and the cab was waiting for us outside. Back the hotel for a tenner and grabbed some late night dinner.
Recommended for a fun night out.
S. C.
Good pizzas, nice place to have a daytime drink, tolerant of kids, there is a small smoking area but not really a garden. There is a pool table out the back, one of the few on North Street. Their pizzas are very good.
T. M.
Fantastic place in a happening part of Bristol. Good food and drink, friendly staff and some brilliant music in the upstairs room.
Worth keeping an eye on the programme for some great Americana acts.
P. S.
Great local bar with great vibes. Sunday roasts are superb albeit the service is a little disjointed, but they 'get there in the end' and the food is worth it. Great for a good old Sunday drink!
E. M.
Stopped here for a lovely cider in the sun -:I would definitely recommend checking out the beautiful little hidden suntrap at the back!
s. l.
We were randomly passing and were impressed with the menu board, order pizza and sides. Food came quickly and was good quality. Excellent friendly waiteress. Good friendly atmosphere.
S. C.
Great place, came in for a bite and a pint with a friend yesterday. Nice food and friendly staff. Nick (I think was his name) was really helpful serving us despite my indecisiveness
L. R.
Love this pub!!
Get there for 6 pm. Have good freshly cooked food and then upstairs to comedy / music.
Keep your eyes on the programme for future events.
Friendly staff.
D. A.
Nice place. Great live music upstairs, and good beer downstairs!
M. S.
Great pub. A selection of craft ales, Peroni, ciders etc. Menu ranges from bites to pizzas and scrumptious burgers. Small outside area plus upstairs venue for music and comedy acts.
K. M.
Not a traditional cosy pub but very open and airy and well laid out. Great atmosphere, guest ales and fabulous food. Good value and great staff 👍
P. T.
Good location, albeit on a busy road in Southville. Good selection of beers. Lots of seating, quite open, unlike a traditional olde world pub.
The upstairs performance area badly needs a refresh, apart from the sad peeling paint, the initial odour assails your senses when you first enter.
As an estate agent would word it, "lots of potential" :)
O. D.
The staff here were very friendly and were doing a great job of serving people as quickly as they could on a busy Saturday night. Unfortunately I've given it an average rating as the food was a massive disappointment. I came here for a Christmas work do and had ham hock to start which tasted like it had just come out of a tin. My main was a turkey roast dinner which tasted like it had been frozen and microwaved. The gravy was more like a paste, the potatoes were overcooked and rock hard on the outside. The turkey was simply mushy and tasteless. Don't think anyone actually finished their meal. The comedy show was actually brilliant and almost made up for the horrible meal, but I wouldn't come here again unless someone assured me the food had improved.
M. F.
Had the crumbled brownie waffle here, I highly recommend it! I swapped the chocolate ice cream for the clotted cream ice cream which I think balanced the flavours better.
The brownie and the waffle were nice and warm so the ice cream softened delightfully on top!
L. W.
Good food good service Thanks everyone 👍👍👍
S. D.
Good range of Pizzas and reasonably priced @ between 7 and £10. You can get the classics, through to some that have a bit of a twist. The Peppery pig is particularly nice with bacon, sausage and black pudding. Quality of the food can vary, but even when busy pizzas are 30 mins tops.
Good selection of cider and beer and not to forget the comedy club which has a range of local and national acts (check the programme for more details)
The atmosphere is nice, and slightly rustic with lots of bare wood. Very comfortable for a catchup drink and great value on a monday with 2 for £11 pizza.
S. E.
Love the food in here... especially the roasts!! definitely worth a visit. Great beer and wine selection too.
C. R.
Good food good service thanks All
T. F.
Great comedy Box club upstairs with great acts also food very good
A. S.
Great venue, and excellent food choice.
I. F.
Good selection real ales, nice wines, good service when one of them got to me as too few staff on a busy theatre night. Enjoyed the show and the beers. 😀
S. K.
Great pub, unfortunately the kitchen closed slightly early the night I was there, we believe because they had an influx of late orders and so didn't want to take any more. Disappointing when we were hungry and expecting to be able to get some food in there!
L. D.
Good food good service Thanks
H. M.
Very cool pub with great little theatre above
R. J.
An average pub, especially for North Street. Poor choice of beers and the food isn't anything to rave about. Would probably be 2 stars but the Comedy Box above is good and has decent acts on
P. S.
Great food, lovely staff, pretty pub. The Mediterranean pizza was very tasty (add vegan cheese, which is delicious).
P. B.
Good food good service thanks All
C. S. (.
I went to see a comedy event here. It's a relatively small venue, up the stairs from a pub. From the booking, I got the impression there was a ticket office where you had to show your booking number, but it was actually just somebody sat at a table when you entered the room. I showed them the booking number on my phone, which they checked against a list.
Chairs are set up in front of the stage, as you'd expect. Sound was fine, no technical issues, the room also wasn't too crowded. From a cyclist's perspective, there are places to lock up your bike outside. I'd be happy to go see a comedy event here again, although it's a little far from where I live (by bike at least).
M. G.
Went to see Midnight Skyracer blue grass band .. fantastic night.
Had a meal before show really enjoyed. Good atmosphere in hen and chicken nice staff would recommend highly.
J. B.
Had a xmas do with around twenty friends in the private room at the back. Great little space with it's own bar. Food was great and service was excellent and friendly. Thanks!
J. O.
Cracking comedy venue, with decent pub and pub grub food. Known for its pizzas.
S. B.
1st time I've been for a gig. The band were good, but I thought the PA could do with a bit of improvement. It was loud, maybe too loud for the PA. Still good though.
H. J.
Limited food menu tonight but good service and grub overall
P.
Great food, great service, good choice of music and I had an adult pizza and dough balls and they were delish!
E. L.
Ruth and Gabriel are flippin fantastic 🤗 made us feel like royalty. Defo come here init
J. S.
I think we got forgotten lots of people that came In after us had there food, after one hour we asked how long it would be and it came along 15 minutes later. The food was very good and we all enjoyed it but shame about the wait.
M. R.
Has changed a lot since my first visit in 1983, but it hasn't succumbed to gentrification and the laid back ambience and wide range of drinks perfectly complement the affordable menu.
W. P.
Food was good and the service was great. Beer isn't of bad either, had to have a few pints just to make sure though, naturally
J. B.
Attended a private pub quiz in the back of this pub. It was alright I suppose, took a while to get served and the cider wasn't that cheap. Would come back for the comedy as they had a good line up.
L. C. (.
It was almost impossible to listen to my friend without being first convinced and then maddened by the great food and great service.
M. R.
Great comedy venture with lovely foodnl and drinks .
E. C.
Great dog friendly pub with large garden. Only downside is that at busy times most tables are booked so if you just drop in you can't get a seat inside
C. G.
Always a great night of comedy at this intimate venue. The comedians seem to enjoy the venue and so give a good account of themselves.
Cracking value night out!
I. G.
Really chilled pub and the food is great. They also have a comedy show every Saturday upstairs! You can bring your drinks up and buy drinks up by the show
P. N.
Nice beer, very very busy and long wait times at the bar, very noisy too. It's a good pub, nonetheless.
A. D.
Great pub helpful smiley staff good selection of drinks. Good venue for various social nights such as comedy, informative presentations etc
D. C.
Quality food and good selection of drinks. What more could you want!
n. C.
I've been using this place for a few weeks and can thoroughly recommend it, friendly and efficient staff, good selection of beers and I particularly enjoy the roast beef on Sunday, this isn't a carvery scenario so don't expect carvery prices, but still good value and we'll prepared and served..
j. k.
Had Sunday lunch today wes very nice fancied a pint of cider but choice limited to Stowford press so I did not bother drinking
J. Y. P. G.
They only had three beers on??. The blue cheese and walnut pizza, we couldn't find the blue cheese & walnuts on the pizza, the other pizza was lovely, they served us after the a alotted time, the service was good.
B. F. H.
Amazing food and very reasonably priced. Ended up staying much longer than anticipated. Good beer too :)
S. E.
Highly recommended for the Sunday roast! Lamb was incredible and at a reasonable price for once! See you next Sunday Nick and team x
J. T.
Pub always makes me think spit and sawdust but a choice of two sauvignon blancs is quite sophisticated. I only go for the Comedy Box which is very good.
S. L.
Great service here even on a busy Saturday night. Would definitely have the chicken burger again!
A. B.
Came here for the Jessie Malin gig and had some food first. Lovely meal awesome gig!! Great venue.
A. M.
Very good drinks, very good food. A nice but casual environment. I highly recommend the pizzas, white Russians and nachos!
G. R.
Good beer selection, cosy atmosphere but plenty of space. They even have colouring paper and pencils to keep the little ones quiet.
m.
Great food, amazing service, pizza was Divine, some of the most creative topping options I've seen and hats off to Matty the chef
C. C.
Beautiful roast served here🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
J. M.
Good place for both drinks and food. Really nice staff and the pizzas are great 😊
P. P.
Great pub with a comedy club upstairs. Have had many of laughs here and is easily the best place for comedy in Bristol.
A. H.
So average. So expensive. Generally below par food and awful service. Tonight was better and we weren't eating so it got 3 star (5 quid a pint? !really? !?!)
J. R.
Really good pizza (especially the goats cheese and shallot one) & great staff!
A. I.
Very decent roast and good service
O. F.
Went there for a date we shared a pizza they were happy to do half and half for us. We both enjoyed each others selection and then enjoyed eachother later 🍆💦💦
T. K.
15 of us descended on the Hen & Chicken with only 15 mins notice but they produced great food in a good amount of time. Very grateful to them for feeding 15 hungry tummies.
M. S.
Tasty food, good selection of booze and friendly staff, in other words everything a pub needs.
H. D.
Tatty upstairs, usually one good stand up and one not so good. Get upstairs a little early as it fills up. Tables have gone and it's just seating now. Trendy downstairs.
J. B.
Great pub, good comedy upstairs
H. H.
Good food
P. W.
Ran out of veggie roasts by 12.30 😑😑😑 luckily found an alternative down the road.
L. T.
Nice place, friendly helpful staff!
Great cocktail recommendations from Jess H and knowledge on the drinks available!
M. H.
Love this place, really reasonable food which doesn't take long to get to your table, drinks are a little on the high side but not out of sync for north street so not really a massive shock, really friendly staff, lovely outside space to the side and rear, even a building out the back for the smokers dubbed 'the Chicken shed' but it's more like a large garage
M. Z.
Average pub with some nice art in back
L. B.
Nice atmosphere, and great comedy venue upstairs. Food however does seem a bit overpriced for what you get.
C. G.
Good food, good beer. Relaxed atmosphere. Slightly too few bar staff during lunchtime
S. B.
Really nice pub, friendly staff. Simple but good menu. Kid and dog friendly.
I. B.
Food really inconsistent. Seems to depend on the chef that day. Quite often food burnt. When the pizzas are cooked well they are very good though.
M. O.
Friendly staff good atmosphere but not what it used to be. Menu becomes more limited every time I visit. So poor4 I shan't be back
S. L.
Worth a visit, especially on match day
S. P.
Had a few drinks here on NYE. Could have stayed all night, great atmosphere. Good beers on tap.
J. G.
Very much a standard pub offering standard pub grub. I wouldn't go on a romantic meal here but certainly one for your friends.
R. M.

Great comedy night but the room is quite small and there are only two toilets upstairs.

Hurrah for that.
E. A.
Good selection of beers, nice food (great desserts), and the comedy is usually really good!

A decent sized venue upstairs and downstairs the food looks ok but places understaffed and has a lack of choice behind the bar
J. H.
Lovely place, good service and fair quality price, just a little bit slow to get the bill.
M. T.
Good place with a great vibe but the couple of times I have been in here it has been in need of a good clean-up (smells, empty glasses etc).
