Reviews of Old Lock & Weir Inn
L. H.
This isn’t my first visit but it is my first review of this place. Stopped here with a group of friends after the Bath Two Tunnels 10k and it didn’t disappoint. There were plenty of Sunday roast options including a gorgeous vegan mushroom and leek pie served with a nice selection of veg including roast potatoes. I will definitely be back for food again.
m. p.
Fine location with a large table area fronting the river. Beer was good, food so so. Good quality whitebait but small portion size. Average nacho's.
M. I.
So needed after our 3 mile walk, could do with advertising along the river bank, people wouldn't give up then and turn back, there losing out on a lot of potential customers. There's lots of seats outside, either sunny or shady and there's bowls of water for dogs. Highly recommended it, would definitely go again.
L. C.
Gorgeous views and a beautiful location popped in for a hot chocolate 🍫 would pop back for lunch next time
T. S.
Managed to get a seat on this lovely sunny Sunday, which was very lucky. Watching the world go by with lot's of families, people walking, cycling and even paddle boarding in the river made it a good afternoon.
Great atmosphere and the food was good. Sunday roasts, burgers, chips, hot dogs coming out all the time with lots of Thatchers flowing as well. £5.05 for a pint, with the burgers around £6 isn't too bad when you've got it all being freshly cooked while you wait. The roasts started at £14.50 and appeared to be coming out on a conveyor belt 😳👍
The staff were working hard to keep everyone happy and their efforts were noted by more than just the wife and myself.
I'll say it again because it shouldn't be dismissed lightly, It really was a great atmosphere and highly recommended if you're down that way 👍

Great little pub and has been for years nice location by the river and good food to boot well worth a look..
J. W.
Just stopped for a quick drink with my hubby today. Simply lovely. Staff friendly and welcoming. The setting alongside the river was refreshing after the gorgeous weather we've had. Will be back another day to try some food.
H. H.
Very friendly pub, much friendlier than the one next door. They were very welcoming to our large walking group, when we stopped for drinks . The menu looks great too, so will definitely be coming back.
S. T.
Lovely food fieldly staff nice walk by the river but sort that squeaky 🚪 kitchen door out😀
I.
Great little pub - well run, friendly staff and well kept real ale. Sunday lunch was great too. Love walking here on a sunny day. Keep it up lads!!!
G. L.
Great location. Plenty of seating and a real locals feel to this place. Decent selection of beers and ciders. My main gripe is the staff. They are friendly enough but seem more interested in chatting to each other than serving people or even acknowledging that there are customers waiting. This is regardlesss of whether it is busier or not. Staff at The Chequers nextdoor seem a lot more focused on their customers.
B. H. D.
I always visit this place in the summer. Good vibe…. And now they serve Neck Oil! Nice to have a pint 🍺 and listen to the river. Can’t go wrong with this place.
P.
Only stopped here for a coffee after a walk along the river with our dog. It looked a lovely cosy place inside so will definitely come back in the winter when the fire is roaring.
S. M.
Lovely old pub, cosy and friendly. Fantastic to get Frozen Thatcher's from the pump ( like a cider slushy!) after a summer's walk along the river. Not eaten there, but food looks great and reviews for Sunday roast are really good.
Fab beer garden right by the weir/river with lovely views.
Highly recommend :-)
c. b.
I took a chance on Sunday roast
Bit much @15£ tbh
Set menu ..so tbh they did swap / remove / add items ..
Had beef 10/10 ,gravey (best I've ever tasted!! Yorkshire 7/10 big let down on roasters (not roasted enough)
Staff was top notch ,was hidden behind bigger pub ,but is a old pub so small
We did enjoy our food and drinks ..
Only issue was parking..2 areas to park both had signs up for other pub not yours so very confusing..
T. H.
Called here as part of The Bristol Packet Pub Lunch Cruise. It was busy, but the food and drinks service was quick and pleasant. The food arrived quickly, and it was a very pleasant lunch stop. Loads of outdoor seating from which to watch the river and boat traffic. I'd recommend the pub and the cruise!
L. G.
We came here for Mother's Day yesterday. 14 of us accommodated at quite short notice (about a week beforehand) to sit outside in the sunshine. The staff were amazing and had it completely under control even though they were really busy. Everything seemed smooth running. The food (roast for me) was plentiful, a child's portion was more than sufficient, and completely delicious. I have often been dubious that pubs can't do a good roast dinner and this place proved me wrong. Thank you for an amazing Mother's Day to remember. We will now be regulars and can't recommend this place highly enough. Well done!
K.
Lovely venue in great weather, had cool refreshing drinks with a Sunday roast and classic fish and chips... Quick service too... Only tiny down side was that the Yorkshire roast was rock solid and over cooked.... But none the less, a great day out.
P. W.
Two riverside pubs side by side provide a delightful setting off the beaten track, with ample shaded seating on the riverside. Both pubs provide food, and there's ample parking both in the 'old' car park or along the riverside, where there's also shaded seating below the trees. Additionally, a pleasant stroll up past the riverside cottages will bring you to the nature trail one way, and the other way will take you on a riverside amble if you're so minded. Well worth a visit on a warm sunny afternoon or evening.
z. w.
nicely prepared food. reasonable price. very relaxing outdoor river view sitting. really enjoyed lunch in a warm day.
J. B.
Beautiful location, we saw otters on the river fishing and swimming about and so many other types of wildlife. Unfortunately, the pizza was not particularly good which is the only sour point of the experience
C. P.
Excellent setting by the river for Sunday roast. Generous portions, a bit of a wait but worth it. Recommended
A. M.
We had a really nice time at the Lock & Weir. It's in a lovely spot on the Avon, the food was very good & great value too. The staff are friendly & efficient. We'll definitely be making regular visits.
H. J.
Lovely spot on the river front right on the weir. The views really dont get better than this on the river. We've often spent sunny afternoons sipping cocktails overlooking the weir. The food menu is good, think decent pub grub rather than a fancy meal. Can't wait for more summers days here!
T. H.
Went on a Sunday and the service was great and food was quick. Unfortunately the food (short rib and the beef roast) was over seasoned with pepper. You could tell it was a nice meal underneath the pepper. Hopefully a one off batch.
Outdoor seating with a Riverside view.
D. S.
Unlike Chequers pub next door, didn't need to book for a quick beer and lunch and service was excellent from a desk outside front door. Friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. Food half price, sun was out, what more could you ask for on a Monday lunchtime?!
D. P.
Had a Sunday Roast. Delicious. Very good prices. And great views. Very relaxing
T. C.
Really friendly people and a cracking place to visit, prices are as you would expect for a rural pub, in the summer a bbq has been known to appear and there is parking and ample seating also the rare slush cider.
A. W.
Great organisation during lockdown..service is fast and friendly, just sit at our table order food and drinks on line and then it's brought to you. Was nice to go to the pub again 🙂
F. B.
Ample portions very well cooked staff very helpful what more can I say will definitely return for second helpings
R. A.
Thank you to the bar tender who very kindly went above and beyond to save my nieces teddy bear from the stinging nettles!! You made her day :)
M. B.
Went here for Sunday Roast the service was quick and the staff were very friendly
The meal was gorgeous .would definitely recommend this pub to other travellers.
J. F.
Great pub, ideal location by the river Avon with a huge outdoor seating area along the river.
J. B.
A nice spot on the river to pause, sip a drink and dream. Good range of beers on tap. Lots of riverside seating
P. S.
Excellent pub. Very nice staff. And good beer of course. Definitely going to put this one on my go to list again
C. J.
Very busy but received excellent service. Only had to wait a short while for food and all reasonably priced.
A.
great setting in the summer, plenty of walks locally and a great variety of ciders.
r. b.
Good pub in a great location, a bit pricy, but well worth the extra pennies. Nothing beats a cheeky cider slush in the sun by the river, cheers 🥂 🍻
N. M.
Lovely Riverside pub. Can get extremely busy at times.
B. v.
Secluded yet lively. Great having for having a meal or just a pint👍
K. D.
Lovely spot by the river. Lots of space but does get very busy. Dog friendly as there's some nice walks from the car park so expect it to get busy on nice days.
Food was ok, relatively standard pub grub. The pub next door might be better for food (not sure, haven't tried) but they have vrry different vibes. Old lock and weir has a great trad pub, bristol friendly feel
C. S.
Delicious takeaway Sunday roast. Huge portions. Thank you, will be back for more.
A. J.
Good choice of ciders and plenty of outdoor seating as well as the odd bit of wildlife on the riverbank
S. T.
A little cold sat outside by the river but we had a beautiful sunset to compensate. We both had a delicious salad and a pleasant bottle of shiraz. Meal cost £48 for the two of us which is what you would expect for quality food in such a good setting
H. G.
Just had the most amazing Mothers Day at the Lock and Weir.
Thank you to Dan, Lauren, Connor and the rest of the team for providing the most amazing Sunday Dinner and wonderful service as always!
E. L.
A lovely Riverside pub that you can walk or drive to from different locations. A real breath of fresh air for us and plenty of covered outdoor seating space as well as open sections. Can't wait for a sunny day to take full advantage.
B. S.
Really mice pub on a sunny day
Lovely views
They sell Addlestones cider
Nice friendly staff
J. A. H. (.
A great friendly place for all the family to have a drink by the river. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very welcoming too.
T.
We love it and the slushy cider.
The food today was amazing we would recommend old lock & weir in a heart beat.
L. N.
Best sandwiches ever!! Great value for money! Lush!
J. M.
The setting is lovely and staff nice & friendly. Covid regulations set up good. Only gave it 3 stars as service was very slow depite it not being at all busy when we placedtour order. There was a mix up on my bread order, which they did offer to change but I did not want to wait any longer, at £6.95 for a cheese sandwich which was tasteless and very dry, food was not good value. Sorry folks but you need to do better.
E. H.
Pretty location for lunch stop on the river. Can recommend the sandwiches and jacket potatoes.
A. T.
The best pub we've ever visited. Every table had 1 of 2 dogs, which made it cute and homey. The most friendly staff and customers. The views are great, locals are super smiley and friendly and the spirit of it was amazing. Their cheese +chips were super tasty! All in all a 5 star experience. We will be back!
A. C.
Had Sunday lunch outside. Best pub roast dinner have had for a long while. Perfectly cooked beef, delicious vegetables , extra Yorkshire, huge helping. All served with a smile by extremely personable and helpful staff. Definitely recommended !
T. S.
Lovely location for this busy pub by the river. Excellent Sunday lunch
A. O.
I do like this pub, but it does annoy me that there's a service charge on every order and the prices have gone up, since reopening.
We would come here more often, as it's a lovely walk to the pub and fantastic location and settings
S.
Nice pub always nice beer friendly staff been using it for over 25 years
A. H.
Good old fashioned riverside pub with outdoor seating, was fully booked for Sunday lunch so book ahead
B. M. C. e. B.
Had a great service and Pub Lunch at the Old Lock
and Weir Inn Hanham, Bristol. The staff were friendly and helpful, the pub was organised which made the whole experience out after lockdown very relaxing with Great views overlooking the river.
H. M.
What a tranquil place to visit. The pub is lovely and situated right on the river. Lovely looking and staff very friendly and helpful.
The food is great after a walk around the area and must recommend the Cider slush!
Plenty of parking and just a short walk from the pub. A lovely little area to explore and to finish off with a drink.
C. E.
A beautifully located pub on the banks of the River Severn alongside the Weir.
They serve good food and beer, but most of all the staff are amazing. Quite sad it's time to move off my mooring, would be more than happy to call it my local😊
p.
Always enjoy a pint at this pub, seated outside watching boats on the river. Friendly staff and decent beer.. food too.
I particularly enjoy getting there by bicycle from Bristol, using the riverside cycle path - 30-40 mins ride from city centre.
D. H.
Had a great Sunday dinner in here.
E. H.
Can say whether good or bad, hence the 3 stars. But I can say it's expensive. Yes I know it's a prime location right by the river, and, I know Covid has changed the way things work, but when Tribute is 4.50 a pint and Thatchers at 4.80 AND you HAVE to pay a service charge on top of that (the option to 'untick' didn't work) we simply got up, got back in the car and went elsewhere. Will we go back? Doubt it
P. H.
Friendly staff. Sunday roast was lovely. Location is deceptive. You feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, yet so close to the city.
Recommended.
D. C.
If you enjoy being by the river and being one with nature. Then this is the place to be. Family run business with a great atmosphere. The staff always have a smile and speak to you as a person, not just a punter. I have been to this establishment on many occasions and have never had any complaints about food.
R. W.
Really nice pub down by the river. Loads of outdoor seating. The staff were really friendly and although we did not eat the roasts coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled amazing. We will definitely be trying the food next time.
W. T.
I run boat trips from Bristol to this pub very regularly throughout the summer with the majority of guests entering the old lock and weir. It's a lovely pub with great food at cheap prices and the owners are great people, very welcoming! It's ideal for just a quick drink too with plenty of places to sit outside!
C. I.
Solid good pub food with some extra bits. The beer battered onions were very good. Location is fantastic, very peaceful
J. H.
Ok, but definitely don't recommend for food! Fine enough place to go for a drink outside by the river. Service a bit hit and miss - waiter delivered our food without asking for sauces and didn't provide cutlery (definitely wasn't finger food!). When cutlery arrived it was dirty and the napkin was so wet is basically fell apart. In a covid environment, we found the lack of attention to hygiene concerning - if this is what it is acceptable to deliver to customers, I worry about what happens in the kitchen. Overall, nice setting, but probably won't go back here. Bit disappointing.
G. S.
Haven't been to pub for at least 20 years and it felt as I 20 years younger and it's still the same. I'm so glad I went back and it felt like I've never left.
Lovely food had a great time been back a few times and will always go back when the weather is good. Thanks you guys for keeping it going. 10 out 10
L. B.
Lovely old pub, really nice on terrace overlooking the river Avon. Friendly staff, can't wait till we're allowed to sit inside.
M. M.
This isn't a local for us so I don't call myself a regular but it is our pub of choice after walking along the towpath of the Avon from Crews Hole about 3 miles. It's situated at a nice spot on the river with a Weir right in front with plenty outside seating and a lovely place to sit on a sunny day with a nice refreshing pint of cider! Has a good selections of beer, wine and cider and serves food too tho haven't ate there myself. When it's busy, the access to and from the bar is a bit tight as it's through an arch on some stairs but I would say that makes it cosier in the winter
J. F.
Great food, great pint and relaxing surroundings outside overlooking the weir. Some of the best ribs I've tasted! Would recommend.
c. f.
Very nice location next to river. Down to earth pub with friendly staff. Food wait time OK but we were starting to get slightly fidgety! Food when it arrived was yummy. Did a half portion for child with no issues. Will visit again with family.
M. B.
Good pub by the river with indoor and outdoor seating. The benches outside have a nice view onto the river. Prices are reasonable and drinks selection is as expected from a pub. £10 minimum spend on card.
A. T.
Nice setting, decent drink selection, just not very well organised. Very limited social distancing going on and the NHS app rule wasn't enforced even if its a legal responsibility (I think)
M. C.
Visited for a Sunday lunch. Was met by Dan who was very helpful and friendly. We sat within the marquee. Lunch was very tasty and generous portions. Great service and food.
M. S.
A good pub in a beautiful setting. Lovely Sunday lunch.
M. B.
Had a meal there yesterday excellent food and very good value for money this was our view from our table
A. b.
Lovely food, staff and surroundings
A. G.
A little bit too much gravey on the lamb shanks it was swimming in it
I. H.
A wonderful pub by the river. A great atmosphere, really friendly staff, good food and well kept beers all reasonably priced.
A favourite on weekday evenings when it's a bit quieter 😉
P. H.
Sat in the garden and had to download an app to order, which was a pain and took about ten minutes. Once that was operating it took only two minutes for drinks to arrive. Faster than standing at the bar. Good quick service.
G. B.
Lovely pub to walk from Bristol along the Avon... or simply drive there and park. On a hot day the iced cider is a must. It gets busy on a sunny weekend day but the atmosphere is great.
L.
Lovely pub in the summer. Great location, drinks reasonably priced, food is good, staff are friendly. Only downside is the bar area is very small so sometimes can be difficult to get served, especially when people have congregated in the bar area.
C. A.
Great place nice for all ages and dogs r chilled too
S. U.
Cracking little pub with great outside area which is amzing on a sunny day , friendly staff who even feed the local fox sunday dinner it would seem ! The food here and atmosphere is amazing . Very friendly pub where everbody is welcome great selection of drinks and in the summer they even sell thatchers cider slush puppies ! Nowt more refreshing than that on a summers day ! Reasonable prices and fair sized meals well worth a visit and lots of walks to do along the river afterwards . True little gem of pub sat alongside the wier which again is nice to see the boats going by on a sunny day .
J. R.
Good outside areas for people to sit outside with their dogs and a glass of wine. I personally visited it on a boat trip and we sent our food reservations 20 before getting there however we still had to wait another 20/ 25 mins for our food to arrive which was disappointing because we had only ordered 2 salads 1 scampi and a cheese sandwich.
M. B.
A cheeky lil drink & cheesy chips with the my grandchildren very nice.
N. T.
Still a fantastic location to unwind & chill at. Prices are reasonable & a nice selection of drinks, including one of the only places in the surrounding area you can nab a cider slush. Unfortunately atm, they are without a chef, and that was reflected in the food & presentation, which was a little below par I'm afraid. Staff tho are excellent & helpful.
R. L.
Fantastic pub. One of the best I've visited in my lifetime. Such a lovely, friendly atmosphere, great locals, great staff, beautiful scenery, excellent food. Highly recommended
p. p.
Just had dinner at the pub great food
S. M.
Location is great, service is excellent, food isnt the greatest but okay for pub grub. Overall, definitely a place to try
L. C.
Beautiful out look, plenty of outside seating, but not all under cover and some benched tables not level. Meal was excellent and staff friendly, speedy service.
G. P. d. T.
Amazing sunday roast in a beautiful environment
H. M.
Beautiful location staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. Tons of seating, no need to hussle for a good spot by the river.
J. G.
A local type pub with a great selection of cider, real ale and lager. Dog friendly which is nice if you are walking along the river and fancy a drink and/or a bite to eat.
J. B.
Food was good; would be nice to be offered sauces given their location wasn't obvious and the table seating plan meant that some of us couldn't easily get up and look, but I do realise pub service is held to a different standard than restaurant service.
A. W.
Good food and pretty reasonable prices. They only take card above £10 and in my case only told me cutlery was at the bar when they brought my food to me outside, which as I was on my own wasn't exactly helpful as I had to take everything with me to grab it, and by the time I got back outside someone had taken the table I was on.
D. S.
This pub has really friendly and welcoming atmosphere with far more character than the clinical Chequers next door. Good cider and enjoyable food; well worth a visit.
A. B.
Food (a Sunday roast and scampi & chips) was nothing special, and quite expensive for what it was. Friendly service and pleasant setting, though. Nice for a riverside drink.
C. R.
Not impressed with the service charge added when using the app was advised to use, at no point was it mentioned and as I haven't been charged anywhere else when using similar apps why here? Food and drink very good
J. G.
Very good friendly service and lovely food. An ideal way to spend a lunchtime or evening drink.
d. k.
Great location for a pint in the middle of your walk. Lovely garden over looking the river.
Never eaten here so no idea for food?
r. l.
Amazing food!! Great atmosphere made to feel most welcome. Dog friendly. Most certainly visit again Would highly recommend!!!
G. P.
Nice to have drinks and food outside on a lovely sunny day. A bit tight inside for my liking. Good pub by the River Avon
A. H.
A nice old pub with a view over the river friendly staff, small and quaint but not wheelchair friendly. Gets busy on sunny days. Sit inside or out.
P. U.
Consistently excellent Sunday roast including a proper veggie option for my wife and I. Great outdoor space or rustic indoor restaurant and bar.
S. J.
A Beautiful place situated by the river. The staff are friendly and the food is gorgeous. Sunday dinner is a favourite of ours. Definately worth a visit.
C. T.
Lovely roast dinner and great place to sit outside by the river great staff definitely would recommend
A. T.
lock and wier is a lovly pub on the riverside indoor and outdoor seating friendly staff good selection of beers and ciders has a live band by the riverside on some weekend nights does lovly food during the day really good roast on Sunday and best of all does Thachers Gold Cider Slush great atmosphere and dog friendly too! and has a beer festival on bank holiday in August!
P. T. A.
Outstanding service 👏 and quality, treated my mum like a queen top place and staff
T. R.
After a cruise up river we stopped here for refreshments and were allowed to eat our own picnic sitting at their benches a lovely pub with Olde worlde charm. Will be back.
s. f.
Best roast dinner, nut roast was lush. I will try the vegan pie next time! :P
K. A.
Beautiful view, thatchers slushy, everything you need on a summers day
P. Y.
Very nice riverside pub. Often has music events at weekends on summer. Too loud for my liking (the music). I prefer it during the week.
A. M.
Easy to book a table and order drinks and food, great food and service. Lovely lunch 🙂
S. J. H.
Nothing but good food and a great place to sit by the river with a drink.
The sunday roast is one of the best!!!!
J. E.
It was very busy tonight and we had difficulty getting the app to work but a waitress got us our drinks so it was an enjoyable night
S. K.
Coping well under lockdown and serving some nice stuff at decent prices. It'll obviously be better once they're open again properly, but needs must for now....
C. P.
Great venue.the Sunday roast chicken was delicious. Allow time for finding a parking space
S. S.
One of my favourites, always busy , drinks are reasonably priced and in the summer they have Cider Slush on tap - Fantastic!
A. D.
Food very good little more pricey but large portions. Staff very friendly.
S. P.
Lovely traditional pub
Wide selection of beers
Great food
Staff very welcoming
Rewarding rest after a long walk along river
Dogs welcome
A. F.
A really nice pub by the water with a great beer selection. We didn't eat here but the food looked good
H. E.
Really friendly pub. Great pizza. They put on a buffet for a party of about 20. It was really good can't fault it.
T.
Friendly staff,. lovely food, all served outside. Picturesque setting on the river.
P. G.
A relaxing pub outdoor seating next to the river Avon. Good food and a great selection of drinks.
N. W.
Ok nice place but wow how expensive is the beer 4.90 for a pint of hop house 13 larger. But you do get a nice view of the river.
G. O.
Really friendly staff, nice views over the river, the food was good a reasonably priced.
l. s.
Love the pub, though I don't get here often... Food good, but gotta wait a while when busy.
L. G.
What a lovely place to enjoy the river and have lunch! Such a friendly hospitable venue
T. L.
Absolutely amazing roast beef sunday roast one of the best ive every had and the staff very so welcoming and frendly 10/10 definitely will eat there again
S. A.
Great spot by the river, overpriced food for the quality. Would go again just for a drink
S. E.
Lush for a summers day pint
M. W.
Just had a Sunday Roast takeaway and it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended 😀👍
J. L.
Friendly cosy dog friendly pub by the river. Good varied menu and lovely atmosphere.
P. B.
Nice traditional pub. Friendly and not too expensive. Lovely on a sunny day or warm evening
S. W. W.
Best pub in the area, really friendly locals and staff, great events in the summer, fantastically warm and inviting in the winter.
M. E.
I really like it here for nostalgic purposes but as a lover of real ale I find it lacking. Also the terrace area needs some work, it's looking very tired.
a. h.
very friendly pub always have a good laugh with the staff and everyone and Is a nice place by the river to
P. M.
Beautiful pub on a sunny day
A. P.
First time I've been there for a long time hasn't changed a bit! Unfortunately this goes for decor and flooring still a nice place to have a drink on a sunny day though.
C. B.
Lovely location overlooking Avon river and Weir. Dog friendly, good food and drinks at sensible prices. Recommended.
Y. C.
What could be better on a nice sunny day than a trip to this pub on the canal. Always busy and great atmosphere
L. W.
Great little find! Nice Guiness 😊. Sadly not able to try food. Friendly staff in lovely riverside location.
J. T.
Had a function here great friendly staff seemed like nothing was too much trouble the buffet had great choice and plenty of it will definitely be going again
A. M.
Great little non brewery pub. Good location and great staff
M. M.
Great Roast. Nice outside space, covered well enough that even heavy rain didn't ruin it!
I. K.
Stopped for a coffee and it was pretty basic from a machine!! Dog friendly pub which meant it was a noisy visit and hardly relaxing
r. b.
Just stopped by for a coffee on a cold afternoon, friendly and helpful staff
C. J.
Nice location by the river, lunches are quite good, seems like it could be a nice place to go for an evening drink
B. I. G.
Great place to go after a walk with the dogs, friendly staff and a refreshing pint by the river. Couldn't be better
m. h.
Great pub, have a lot of great memories here. Not a bad review ever
C. P.
