Best pub on Gloucester Road! Fantastic live music, superb range of beers and ciders, amazing quality food and a great smoking area to the rear. The pub seems to have recently improved in leaps and bounds! The staff seem happier, it’s always very clean and well laid out and stocked too! This is our go to place on Gloucester Road and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

On the Cask Marque Ale Trail and justifyably so. A goodly range of well kept ales from local source and further afield. It's an older establishment that has had many renovations, much of the original interior is long gone. It was clearly not a one bar pub, but the original stained glass windows are still in place. Interesting wall art in the quad outback.

Traditional pub. Not much has changed since my student days. Jo the barman gave us a very warm welcome. Pub food (they do vegan burgers) was good value & quick service. Dog friendly too. What's not to like.

Was a good atmosphere for a Wednesday as it was a pub quiz evening, although made it quite noisy just to have a conversation. Decent pub, by far the best on Gloucester Road. Had a smashing roast here and a well kept pint of ale. Prices are not bad, but wish I was a CAMRA member as they give them a cracking discount. Manager was very friendly and helpful. Apparently they are having a tough time with Enterprise Inns, they are a bunch of cowboys who are systematically ruining the pub industry. Hopefully the current landlady can keep going and it not turn into a soulless chain bar. Oh and a great heated garden (smoking area)!

My favourite pub on Gloucester Road. Good beer and cider, good service, friendly staff & punters, heated & sheltered beer garden out back, and dog-friendly. Lovely for a pint with mates or to have a little afternoon sit down and read a book. Haven't eaten a proper meal there but the chips are great and huge portions, and their burgers look tasty.

I was pleased to see this place had a slightly cleaner feel than last time but the too-cool-for-school staff really let it down. When I order drinks and say "thanks" I don't want the bar staff to reply "no problem". The real thanks should come from the staff - there are plenty more pubs on Gloucester Road and manners cost nothing. The pub itself is still covered in graffiti, which seems so passé now, and the rear outdoor area still feels like it needs hosing down. I would never eat here - it still doesn't feel quite clean enough yet... maybe in another couple of years...?

I said the next time I was served up a tiny bowl of chips in a hipster metal dish, Id review it, so here it is. And in a good British pub no less. Tiny bowls of chips. Sad times. I asked for more considering its price - to which they put it in a slightly larger hipster metal dish with maybe 3 more freshly cooked chips. Nice people, good pub - need to address their bowl/portion situation.

A friendly and cosy little pub. The beer garden is a particular treasure. There isn't anything particularly outstanding about The Prince of Wales but there's something about it that makes my friends want to keep coming back. A definite recommendation and one of the best pubs in the area!

Went for a pub quiz on Wednesday night, while there got a burger and a few pints, food and drink were of good quality and reasonably priced also a 20 percent NHS discount which was nice. The quiz MC was lovely and engaging. Pub staff were also lovley.

Although I don't come here often because the outside area is small and full of smokers, I rate this as one of the best all-rounder pubs in Bristol. Staff are lovely, the place is quirky, music us always good and Sunday roast is huge!

A pub which unfortunately doesn't live up to it's potential at all. On one hand it appears to try to be hip and cool by the way it's painted and it's decorated quite well inside but the bar itself has a very stuffy feel to it and the draft beer is always just drab, despite them being a free house. I appreciate that quit a lot of people like Gem but they only ever have Bath Ales, Otter and something else which is highly traditional - Ashley Down is the most adventurous I've seen and this kind of selection is just totally out of touch with what Bristol loves at the moment. Perhaps they want to appeal to the explicitly anti-hipster only which I could understand but it isn't really the location for that. It's redeeming factor is the beer garden, which is large, sheltered an heated if necessary which has a good ambiance but still, would be a lot better if it was full of people drinking good beer.

Bristol Sunday Roast review at The Prince of Wales on Gloucester Road "My slow cooked belly of pork was a revelation. The thick strip of meat representing a faultless example of consummately cooked, melt-in-the-mouth perfection and topped with a salty, crusty layer of heavenly, crunchy crackling." Food is served Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 8.30pm with an extensive selection of lunch, dinner, light bites, mains, sides and dessert options. My visit on a rather grey and rainy Sunday afternoon, however, was to sample one of their much-trumpeted roast dinners, which costs £10 for the roast and £4 each for starters and desserts, or £12.50 for two courses. My slow cooked belly of pork was a revelation. The thick strip of meat representing a faultless example of consummately cooked, melt-in-the-mouth perfection and topped with a salty, crusty layer of heavenly, crunchy crackling. My dining partner in crime went for the topside of beef, which was still slightly pink as she liked it so it retained its fullest, juiciest, most potent beefy flavour. Both roasts were served with Maple roasted carrots and parsnips, kale and savoy, braised leeks, red cabbage, roasts potatoes - all cooked to text book, impeccable magnificence - and topped with a gargantuan Yorkshire pudding which was a first-class combo of adequately moist and perfectly puffy. We managed to crowbar down a dessert of apple pie with custard and carrot cake with vanilla frosting, both of which were top notch, and finally built up sufficient energy to bloatedly, rather inelegantly galumph our way out of the building. Pub manager Toby Summerell-Youde may have only taken over The Prince of Wales just over a month ago but he's clearly a man who knows what he's doing to keep the PoW fan base and city's food and drink collective happy. It's very much business as usual for a pub that has plenty of character and charm and Toby has no intention of changing a well-established and very successful formula. Business is very good and long may it continue; Toby's an affable, hardworking chap who was mucking in pulling the pints and serving the food to tables of hungry punters, and he deserves to do well. He's also surrounded himself with excellent, efficient staff in the form of Charlotte Milton and exemplary head chef Adam Gregory, who uses food from local suppliers and free range and organic produce where possible, including the Gloucester Road butcher Murray's. With them at hand to keep the pub's well-lubricated wheels of industry turning The Prince of Wales triumphantly carries the torch as one of the best, much-loved, most fiercely independent venues in town.
