Reviews of Priory Hotel Portbury

Spent a very nice couple of hours here recently on a Sunday, opted for the beef roast, and requested the beef be as rare as possible, thinking it would just be 'a standard beef dinner' but no, I was presented with a pair thick, moist, tender and nicely medium/rare slices of beef. The accompanying veg was hot and plentiful, as was the gravy. The place has only recently had a refurbishment so all was spick and span. Plus the fact we had a very attentive young lady looking after us all added up to me wanting to return in the not too distant future.

Has an absolutely gorgeous lunch time meal here. Food was exceptional with really lovely desserts and cocktails as well. Could not fault the service from Wade, so welcoming, really excellent service. Will be back soon!

Disappointed. Had Christmas lunch here for ten of us. There was only two Christmas turkey meal left. So eight of us couldn't have, and had to choose something else. If you want vegetables you have to order as a side dish, they don't come as part of the meal. I requested cream on my Christmas pudding...and got Milk. All for £35, did include 2 x drinks..but it was bland and disappointing.

Lovely venue, decorated beautifully. Plenty of car parking space and outdoor seating area which is a great sun trap!
If you're a halloumi fan, order the halloumi skewer - it's enormous, and beautifully cooked, with a choice of sides.

Four friends attended on Friday evening and were pleased to discover it was table service. We were served by 2 young ladies as one of them was training and it was her first full shift. She was friendly and although nervous did have interpersonal skills. The main course was very tasty although we were quite surprised at the rise in prices since the last time we had visited. Unfortunately our experience of ordering desert was not so positive. We had noticed on the main menu that there was the option for mini desert and a hot drink but couldn't see this on the separate desert menu we were offered. We queried this and were advised by the other young lady that we had an old menu????????? This issue was resolved and two of us ordered the mini crumble and assumed it would arrive with either cream or custard. When we asked for custard we were informed the mini crumble did not come with custard and if we wanted some it would be 50p for a small jug. Obviously we wanted custard as the crumble would be too dry otherwise. We assumed the mini deserts would be served in the same way as the main deserts only smaller. We could not believe that we had to pay £1.00 for 2 very small jugs of custard. I have never experienced anything like that before. If you feel you need to do this my suggestion would be to charge £6.50 for a mini crumble and custard and then people would not notice. I will be telling my other friends about this which I am sure will amuse them all ( whatever is the world coming to!!) they may still choose to come along to the Priory to experience this practice and hopefully it will keep them entertained.

The food was good, as was the service generally. However the kitchen had made a change to a dish, which was not explained by the waiting staff so what arrived was quite a bit different to the menu. At the time of paying the waitress refused to update my loyalty card saying that she had completed the transaction and it should have been presented when asking for the bill.

Thd priory delivers on food quality and dining experience every time, I've visited many times recently for both work lunches and family dining, the amazing Jane was our table host during our last visit, friendly attentive and nothing too much trouble and able to help navigate food intolerance (wheat and casein) the venue is lovely well kept and a warm and lovely atmosphere every time. Would 100% recommend

You were fantastic, you accommodated our needs as we wanted to surprise my dad for his birthday with balloons and a cake. Nothing was too much trouble, the service was smooth and very friendly, and the food was delicious. Decor was also lovely and a step up from last time I visited. Wonderful staff, tasty food and a warm and relaxing atmosphere. I would highly recommend the pub.

Haven't been to the priory for a long time as last visit the food was really poor bit after hearing good things since it has been taken over, decided to give it another chance for my birthday meal out. I was not disappointed. Food was fantastic! Staff super friendly. Service was exceptional and they were so great with the dog, bringing him a blanket to sit on, bowl of water and a treat. I look forward to going back
