C.Very relaxed atmosphere, very clean pub in both bar and restaurant areas. We were very impressed with both the quality and presentation of the food. Staff were very friendly, and we loved the old map of Thornbury and surrounding areas on the ceiling. Without a doubt, we shall be returning many times in the future.
A. G.Just had lunch here, good lamb shank and the wife says it is the best lasagna she has had. Forgot to mention that as one meal was on the lunchtime menu is was surprisingly cheap.
Exceptionally helpful and friendly staff.
Very nice garden as well.
The beer is in excellent condition.
Also handy for public transport and the local shops.
P. S.Possibly the best pub locally. It could do with a bit of redecorating, however this pub is friendly, has a fair choice of beer with good service. It has a yard which is busy. (The Lion has a better garden) Unfortunately it smells of smoking and could do with the ash trays being emptied more regularly. A good meeting place or one to spend an evening at
K. H.We were staying at Thornbury Castle and we wanted to try a local restaurant and they highly recommended The Royal George. We are so glad we went! The food was scrumptious. Pricing very fair. We had the tomato soup (homemade goodness!), lamb shank, and chocolate cake with custard for dessert. It was so tasty, we thanked the hotel staff for the recommendation!
E. 8.Nice central pub in Thornbury. Easy to find, there's plenty of parking space, the inside feels and looks new, clean and well maintained. The starters were tasty, the mains were very generous portions and nicely presented. The service was attentive and friendly. The prices are very reasonable. The desserts were not the best, recommend having sweets elsewhere. The drink, especially the gin selection is top notch. Also, the place has a nice big garden area and outdoor tvs for watching sports events.
I.Had a lovely early Xmas meal with 13 friends with food chosen from their 2022 Xmas menu. All good and well prepared as we supplied our choices a few days in advance. Service was good and lots of well trained staff. Good choice of beers and soft drinks and all food and drink not at rip off prices.
R. P.Really friendly place to enjoy a relaxed drink and a bite to eat. Maz and the team have worked hard turning a once good pub into a now great pub with something for everyone. Myself and husband enjoyed a nice lunch here, I had the Moving Mountains Veggie burger with nachos, hubby enjoyed the cheese and bacon burger - both we would highly recommend. Will definitely be back soon.

S.Popped in for an impromptu meal with family, booked a table online as we wanted to bring a dog, and I have to say it was a great selling point being able to bring your 4 legged family the venue was very accommodating. In the end our dog stayed home because they didn't like the wind and rain. We struggled with the volume of choices across 3 menus and I think this reflected in the staff taking orders and the kitchen trying to fill them, we had one wrong meal delivered which ment one party member sat with no food while we ate ours and then we sat and watched them eat, not ideal but there you go it happens, we had another meal delivered that wasn't wrong but had been made to the style of the chef and not the description of the menu which spoilt the meal. Hence we didn't stay for desert and left early. The pub really had promise but it just fell short.

Great selection of beers and spirits in a very relaxed and trendy atmosphere, we only stopped by for a break and ended up ordering food, service was quick but I wasn't blown away with how it tasted.
Certainly not bad but I wouldn't make a special trip to eat here although I didn't try every item so can't judge completely.
What we had was great value though and presented very well.
Will go back again if not for food but for drinks

The greeting on arrival (a few minutes before they officially opened) was warm and welcoming.
The service continued to be great throughout the meal and the food was really good, quick and hot.

E. T.A nice venue however disappointed with the food. Couldn’t supply any salad dressing to go with our fish cakes and salad meal. One member of our group specifically asked for no ketchup with his burger but a small serving found inside the bun. A hair was also found inside the burger bun. It’s a shame as the setting and vibe was nice.
W. A.Lovely little pub. One of my favorites in Thornbury...chef went home for personal reasons. The bar staff cooked the food orders. Very nice and probably a more generous helping of chips than usual. I'm not a vegetarian but it was really nice!
C. M.Food has really improved here! The avocado and halloumi sandwich was delish, kids food was a good portion size and the "bulldog" was good too, although the mustard was very strong!! A great range of drinks available here, lots on tap too.
Food service was really quick and bar service was equally efficient and friendly. Plenty of board games to play while you wait and keep the kids entertained, colouring was provided too.

R. P.Visited the Royal George with my brother and nephew. Was served in a timely manner by a very polite young lady Ordered a 2 course meal for £10.90 consisting of lasagne with salad and garlic bread followed by cheesecake. The lasagne was delicious and filling and I'll be back for more at a later date.

B. H. T. H.Popped in last week not great at all, although today a complete change in attitude, met the new assistant Manager Katie. Felt very welcome, big talks of bringing this local legendary pub back to where it needs to be. I am excited to hear that things are on the up and that it now has a heart-beat. This is such a lovely venue, todays staff were very supportive and friendly and I felt very at ease. Great for food, functions, work, coffee, or a lovely pint. I also popped into the new GIN Bar area which looks fantastic! Expect to see a huge turn around at this venue very soon. Living in the local area? Pop in and support this venue as it's going to shortly become the heart of the community that the area is missing. Breakfast is a must for this venue so would be great see earlier opening times!

f.This pub has a standard bar, with a good range and also a "gin bar" towards the back if the pub. There are some standard offerings for drinks and food, with a few local beers, ciders and spirits.
It is a pub of several atmospheres - cosy at the front, calm near the gin bar and relaxed in the large outdoor space. Very pleasant overall and good place to go for a chat with mates

C. I.Sadly I visited when a very rowdy wedding party was in virtually every room. Very loud and nowhere quiet. This place isn't very spacious and really doesn't lend itself to large parties of this type. Won't go there again, there are plenty of other pubs in this area.
