Reviews of The Bristol Flyer
D. C.
We had a fantastic visit last night. Big lively pub with great atmosphere. The food was delicious - especially the Sweet Freak burger which had waffle, maple syrup and lotus biscuit in it! 👌🏻 Absolutely banging!
Special mention to the DJ who played a superb Garage set last night!! Loved it
R. G. d. C.
Came with friends to get a bite to eat our server was Lydia gave us great advice on what to order in terms of not just food but cocktails. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and drinks in a lovely atmosphere great staff will definitely visit again!
F. S.
Came in for Wing Wednesday (a great deal on 2 for the price of 1 wings) and had a great lunch served by Lydia who was very helpful and also suggested some lovely craft beers on offer as well! We definitely plan on returning! Thanks guys!
K. N.
Good selection of veggie and vegan options. Large portion size and they’re dog friendly!
S. B.
Popped in for a quick bite at lunch today, very happy with the menu. Opted for halloumi burger. Good quality ingredients and really quick service.
Had a quick mooch about, looks like a great pub garden out back as well.
Have to give 4 stars just due to price, as did seem a little expensive.
H. C.
Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Both the food and drink was amazing. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a visit!
E. T.
We had a brilliant time at the Flyer on the bank holiday weekend. Emily who served us was incredibly friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious too!! We’ll definitely be back.
H. L.
Best pub on G-Road, best bar staff and best beer. If you disagree I'll fight you. Tuesday night visit this week went swimimgly - particular shout to the bartender, who was so nice and understanding that he made me write this review.
D. D.
Lovely friendly staff they couldn't do enough for you. Lovely atmosphere. Food was great. I had veggie lasagne and hallumi fries. Beautiful home cooked lasagne. Perfect. Would definitely recommend. Thanks everyone!
C. I.
amazing food and good beer selection. staff are great with a special mention to lydia who has always gone above and beyond to ensure our experiences are always great. thanks
J. S.
Very chilled environment! Went when it was not very busy on a Sunday evening. I highly recommend the Dirty Fries!
J. E.
Great pub with very friendly staff and great select of beers. Lydia was very helpful when it wanted some advice about rum and gin cocktails - clearly knows her stuff🍸🍸🤪
D. R.
Good quality pub serving real ales, good quality lagers and good cocktails. Friendly atmosphere and good food in smart surroundings in a good neighbourhood. Nice beer garden at the back is really big and lots of space inside too. Good for groups and classic pub food and burgers.
R.
I Visited yesterday with my girlfriend the staff were friendly, great selection of drinks and food available. The Sunday roast we had was delicious(see photo) The only let down was that we had to wait over an hour for the food to arrive.
I. S.
Lydia was a super star with her service and made the entire experience amazing. The food was great as well which was a bonus.
A. H.
This pub is the single greatest thing in bristol. Great staff, particularly the wonderful Lydia. Great student deals as well
J. P.
Friendly staff, great food and really enjoyed the pub quiz last Monday
W. P.
Great place. Do really miss the lovely blonde bar maid tho - Gracie 🥹🥹🥹
T. A.
Had a lovely but roast & a cheeky pint tonight, the kind young blonde waitress (sorry didn't get her name) made me smile, thanks for a nice evening, will be back for another meat roast soon
V. C.
My first impression when we entered the pub was that they have that kind of easy going atmosphere, and I wasn't disappointed. I went to visit my nephew who lives in Bristol and he said that it's one of the best pubs in Bristol, and I agree with him. The food was excellent and drinks as well, we also were lucky with the weather. The only black spot was that the door of the loo could not be looked. But I will definitely go back again next time in Bristol.
K. K.
Great food and some good beers
K. P.
Excellent lunch, friendly and helpful staff, definitely recommend
L. P.
Cosy pub with nice atmosphere and tasty food.
M. E.
Absolutely cracking pub. Went in there for a cheeky 2am pint and low and behold a liquid drum and base DJ was going at it. Lovely pint(s) and very friendly barstaff.
P. A.
Amazing food fantastic staff had a laugh
J. B.
I LOVED IT HERE
Lydia and her co worker (the one with the cool earrings) were so welcoming and lovely. The service was impeccable from recommending drinks to making sure we weren’t too cold. The garden looks beautiful and it’s clear they really take care of the place and it’s customers. The ONLY downfall is the burgers don’t come with chips. 10/10 I’m definitely a new local x
D. D.
Very student orientated but a nice vibe and reliable priced drinks.
N. S.
Nice pub along the Gloucester Rd. It's been my local since moving to St Andrews.
Always good service. It has a nice outdoor area at the back and is currently doing table service.
A. W.
Our lunch was really tasty and the rear garden is looking the best it has in years. Banging loud house music at lunch time seemed a strange choice though.
H. T. J. C. (. N.
Great service as usual! Alex served our food and drinks - friendly and chatty! Would definitely recommend - we will 100% be coming back.
S. L.
Love this pub, even when it's busy you can still find a seat! Staff are friendly and attentive and there's a good selection of drinks. We ate on our last visit, only a few starters but the food was good! Served promptly and good portion sizes! There are a fair few veggie/vegan options for anyone interested as well. Recommended!
K. Z.
It is an amazing place for a drinks with a group of friends as the place is spacious with great ambience. Also they have really lovely garden.
Unfortunately the food has been very disappointing. I gave it a couple of goes: the price doesn't match the portion size and the quality. E.g. my veggie lasagna was too salty to eat, I mean it was like licking a salt lamp. After raising the issue with staff, we were told they are new members and don't know what to do. I approached the other member of staff at the bar and was told 'she likes salty food'. I mean really, is this a response for a £40 bill? I didn't even have a half.
Edit: Definitely reviewed the right place. I live on Gloucester Road, I know it inside out. :)
R. W.
Has a pleasant courtyard with lots of tables and shade. Great selection of drinks and delicious pub meal classics. Spacious in pub. Friendly staff.
C. T.
The menu is odd and a little over priced when compared to the same meal elsewhere. However, the drinks selection is good, the staff are friendly and the vibe is welcoming
S. S.
Order through the QR code at your table - drinks come out super fast and the staff are really friendly and attentive. 241 burgers on a Tuesday what’s not to love? :)
K. P.
Great pub to enjoy on a sunny afternoon if you head to the rear garden. Decent choice of food menu options with the usual pub classics, the wine selection is pretty good, range of beer/lager on tap. Mid-priced so won’t break the bank. The atmosphere inside varies from super quiet to bustling at the weekends, definitely worth stopping in if you’re on a pub crawl.
S. C.
Brilliant staff. Prices a bit on the high side
P. B.
Lovely pub with good beers and a nice atmosphere. It is dog friendly and very relaxed. Popular with students and Gloucester road locals alike. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is because of the menu; the choice is slightly restricted with chicken, burgers, veggie or pub classics. The old menu was varied and used good produce.
P. W.
I really enjoyed it. David was a great host and I was welcomed by everyone! Definitely going to the next one!👍
D. B.
This is one of the best pubs on Gloucester road, its a very nice all round all weather pub. Nice in the summer to sit outside, beer garden is large and spacious and comfortable. The interior decor is attractive and again its very comfortable. The drink choice is decent and the gin choice is extensive. Food menu is nice and service is friendly as well. Definitely worth going back.
J. H.
Huge portions, lovely atmosphere. Great beer garden too!
B. B.
The southern fried chicken is amazing. Nice sized pub garden too. Nice busy place to go.
M. P.
The beer garden is the star here. It's a nice pub with a great beer garden. There's a nice range of beer, but often they're at the weaker end of beer choice. Burger was pleasant enough, but wouldn't pay extra for the triple cooked chips again as the skinny skin on fries were definitely better.
S. W.
Great pub, lots of seating and space to get together with friends. Good beer prices. There are much better food options locally, but this place will do you some average food if you don't want to walk anywhere else
P. G.
I’ve always liked this pub and had a great experience here today. Really good options for vegans, loved the Beyond Meat burger! Incredible service from Dan!! (4 star max because it’s not independent)
S. E.
Great venue. Super service from a professional and friendly Lydia.
G. G.
Good pub, great homely feel despite it having an abundance of tables. Usually a great range of beers available and the food is always good if not a little on the pricey side for what it is. Again, this place is perfectly situated on Gloucester road so if you crawling down make sure you visit this pub!
p. u.
Walking 🚶♂️ to watch the football
Looks a nice play for food.
K. H.
This might be the best vegan burger I've ever had. In fact I'm gonna commit and say it is!! Really like this pub, I went on a Sunday evening with friends and it was really quiet, but that meant no wait for food and drink. Dog friendly and a pretty nice atmosphere too. And, like I said, the vegan burger was AMAZING. Thank you!
EDIT: I'm knocking a star off here because I took the family back here today, had another meatless burger and was pretty surprised when it arrived solo! Turns out you have to pay extra just for normal fries (which lets be honest, aren't exactly expensive are they....) so you're basically paying ten pounds for a burger... albeit a good one... just didn't realise this last time! Doesn't make much sense when the kids meals for a fiver are bigger than a ten quid burger. Come on guys, a few chips on the side isn't gonna break the bank!!
J. S.
Drinks are a little pricey but fairly standard for the area. Food was nice (especially the fried onions) and the service was quick - pub grub with veggie and vegan options. Good atmosphere
A. C.
Great place to meet friends for a quiet pint
D. R.
It was lovely and very friendly and excellent service, only went for drinks , and they made a very welcome, would definitely go there again
A. B.
Great service, the food is great, ranging from a full blown meal to top quality and very considered bar snacks. So if you want a quick bite instead, there's also great options. I think possibly the biggest outdoor area on Gloucester Road (front and back of the pub). Great selection of drafts.
J. L.
Have visited several times, and the food and beer is always good. Most recently, I visited in a group of three, all of us really enjoyed our meals. The service was very prompt, and friendly.
Only criticism is the garden could be maintained better, given the nice interior.
Would definitely go back. One of the best pubs in Bristol.
D. I.
Very impressed with the food from the flyer. I had southern fried chicken which came in its own little frying basket. Excellent. The staff kicked out a stag do last time I was in there, not that I have anything against a good stag do in the right location, but it was nice to see the staff caring enough about the atmosphere and other customers to take action.
Good location, selection of beers and a decent wine list to boot.
S. W.
Staff and service is top notch (the manager came over and had a chat with me whilst I waited 20 minutes for a late friend) they also have their social distancing sorted. Beer garden is perfect for a bev in the sun AND they have a brilliant pub menu for vegetarians
D. P.
Nice pub & grub. 4 star as the prices exceed some London places which was a shame, over £7 for a double spirit and mixer?
R. C.
Something about this place stopped me from going in for a long time. I'm glad I eventually changed my mind though as it is a lovely pub. There is a good range of beers and also soft drinks too, which is unusual for a lot of Bristol pubs. The staff were friendly and chatty and didn't charge the difference when the beer we wanted ran out and had to chose another. Lovely beer garden with heaters, and plenty of room inside too. A great pub worth visiting, even if something seems to be putting you off from the outside!
S. C.
The pub and staff was lovely but I was disappointed with the food... £3 for a tiny bowl of chips and £7 for a bland noodle salad with some plastic in it. I'm sure this place can serve great and generous food but it's important to pay attention to each meal you're sending out.
A. E.
Decidedly average. Food was okay but roast beef was gristly and tough. Puddings fine but unremarkable. Servers all very friendly.
All in all, £70 lunch for three, two glasses of wine, a beer and two soft drinks was average value for a very average meal.
S. P.
Went for a Sunday roast and the price point was good although there were some trimmings missing on my plate which was stated on the menu like pigs in blankets and bread sauce. No doubt they would have corrected the mistake but then they should have got it right first time. Ambience was good and would go back and try their main menu. Advise to reserve in advance as there were only a few tables available without reservation
E. T.
Came in on Sunday for lunch, great atmosphere and service from the staff, roasts came out nice and quick, I had the chicken which was great, will definitely return!
S. B.
Popular pub with a decent range of beers and drinks, and a good menu. Food was tasty and servings were generous. Can get busy and staff can on occasion be a bit unfocused. Decent enough stop off on a night out.
A. Q.
Always a fantastic time in the Flyer.
Their social distancing is tip-top, they make sure to ensure that everyone is following gov’t guidelines which I massively appreciate.
Massive thanks to the Flyer team for helping me and my friends feel secure during these unexpected times!
R. C.
Had our work Christmas meal here in December 2017. I really can't praise them enough. It's very hard trying to do a decent "turkey with all the trimmings" meal for a big group of people (in our case, about 20) but they did an excellent job.
The starters were good. The turkey was proper slices of meat that looked like they'd actually come from a turkey. The veg and roast potatoes were all cooked just right (i.e. not over cooked). The gravy even seemed to be proper gravy! Their Christmas pudding was also pretty good.
I remember this place as being a student drinking place for quite a while, but it's a long way from that now. It's a bit out of my way but I'd be interested to go back and try their regular menu, I have a suspicion that it'll be really rather good!
D. G.
Went for a roast dinner, food was fantastic, they serve roast into the evening and have a great selection of wine and beer.
They did however lack in the small details to make this a 5 star visit. There was no loo paper in the gents and they were a little too efficient, clearing our drinks when we went to order food from the bar.
D. M.
Decent food and good amount of space. Pretty friendly staff and good atmosphere.
L. D.
Good dog friendly pub with dog biscuits waiting at the door. Food is a little on the high priced aide but its generally quite good with large portions. Not a massive selection for veggies though. Beer garden okay but nothing special.
D. T.
The sunday roast is big, tasty and served quickly! Not expensive as other pubs next to this one. The mulled wine was a perfect match. Loved it and I'll come back for sure.
D. E.
Part of a pub chain. Good choice of food and drink. Staff were helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was casual and relaxed.
L. L.
Generally a good pub with friendly staff and a good selection of drinks but I will be avoiding the food there since my last visit. Roast dinner was comprised anaemic roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding which was mainly raw batter.
M. C.
Nice atmosphere, quite cosy. The prices match the area so not too expensive though not cheap either. Had the Sunday roast with lamb and it was great. One of my favourite places to chill on Gloc road. It's right next to Cider Press which can be a semi good night out in there so makes Bristol Flyer a ideal to place to go before hand
S. S.
First visit, after recommendation. Booked a table online, which was great. Lovely pub and atmosphere. Disappointed my name was spelt wrong on reservation, sad I know, but if I've typed it into reservation correctly, surely it should be correct on the table. Food was good, chili non carne soup was amazing. Roast lamb, although presented well was a little tough. Overall an enjoyable experience, though.
C. P.
Tasty food and impressive beer selection, if slightly overpriced IMO. Nice garden seating area. One of the better pubs on the Gloucester road, so can get quite busy.
Z. S.
Very good but a bit on the expensive side and also a 50 minute wait for food. Disappointed.
S. M.
Great pub, good beers. One way system, good seating arrangements, and great service during Covid-19 times, music too loud though which is not ideal.
O. R.
Great food - best burger I've had for a LONG time (couldn't finish it!) and the dirty fries are filthy!!
M. H.
Friendly and helpful staff, amazing food (burgers are especially great!!). Really like the nooks and crannies of the place, makes for a nice atmosphere with plenty of places to have a quiet conversation.
D. C.
Good selection of drinks, good Sunday roast and very good and accommodating members of staff. What more can you want!
K. M.
The place is nice and broad, the meals was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. rapidly, efficient service and very friendly waiters. I highly recommend this place.
C. J.
Nice pub lager was good and the food was excellent will be back.
S. M.
Old skool pub, feels like a place pirates would have frequented many years ago, definitely worth a visit in a Gloucester Road pub crawl. They do beer tankards with pistachio's in as well, which are lush!
D. T.
Would go again. ..great attitude.
We all make mistakes but it is how you behave afterwards that counts.
The Flyer staff made a mistake with our food order..but their attitude and behaviour afterwards was superb. Food was very tasty and service very good.
A. H.
The burgers were amazing, gets busy but just be prepared for a wait at the bar. I would give it more stars but everytime I've been it's taken a long time to get severed, even when there is not many at the bar.
s. m.
Lovely staff awesome food and what a great atmosphere you have there
J. B.
Food would have been much better received if it had been hot & bit miffed aboit getting hoofed off our table in the middle of a card game.. other than that five meals including drinks £95. But please serve hot dinners
A. R.
Bit average. Food was ok and service non-existent. Went in for a meal with my family, no table service what so ever and food came out staggered. For a bill which came to quite a bit given there were 11 people I would expect a little better service. Staff were friendly enough but not particularly accommodating. probably wouldn't come again in a hurry.
l. w.
Food was nice apart from the cold noodle salad. The staff ( Jodie and Micheal) were friendly and fantastic. Great beer garden and Apreol spritz !!
C. P.
Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic service!
G. K.
Been in the area two years and still thought of this a student pub until taken there by Carole . . .thank you. Really nice place. The food is recommended, beer kept well, what's not to like?
M. R.
Good service nice beer garden plenty of seating music on weekends
N. H.
visited for an evening meal. Nice big pub with plenty of seating. Was a very hot day when we visited, all tables outside taken & very hot inside. Food good & staff friendly & efficient.
B. C.
Saturday Breakfast. 4 of us dropped in for breakfast.. A bit perturbed by the lack customers in the first instance but this was soon quashed by the site of the champion breakfast (which beat me and my friend). Awesome food including the best black pudding ever. Partner had the French toast, bacon and Maple syrup which was also fantastic.
Would disregard the rest of Gloucester Road and come here again.
A. G.
Brilliant food had mixed meet to start really nice then a real roast dinner! And a proper coffee. Brilliant service and really relaxing atmosphere.
L. S.
Quirky pub, great rage of beer cider and spirits, lovey atmosphere
C. F.
Good selection of drinks, great beer garden and good atmosphere
L. N. (.
Very nice food and the pub has a buzzy atmosphere. Staff were lovely as was the beer and change cocktails. 👍
D. A.
Popped in here to start off a night celebrating a friend's birthday. Nice friendly staff behind the bar, and a couple of us had the burger and chip on the menu, which was delicious!
J. A.
Spacious for big groups welcoming staff food looked great
M. M.
Can't fault the bar staff and interior - friendly service and a great place to chill (the board games are a nice touch).
Myself and a friend came in for a drink and decided to eat something we'd got from Tesco over the road while we had our drinks, because we didn't fancy anything on the menu. Appreciate this was probably against policy, but we hadn't seen any notices.
A polite word of advice to the bearded guy wearing the chequered shirt who came over and talked down to us as if we'd just been caught with drugs - be a bit more polite and evaluate your communication skills. After my friend politely apologised, he decided to come back over and threaten to kick us out if he saw us doing it again. After I took him up on his mannerism, he asked us to leave. Brush up on the emotional intelligence and you might gain customers rather than lose them.
Besides that, which ruined our drinks, a pleasant venue.
M. K.
Good pub, good range of beers excellent beer garden
J.
Courgette fries and tobacco onions at the Flyer, have been a pivotal point in my life.
A. G.
Good table service, felt safe with the strict one way system. Nice beer and staff
R. P.
Good food and drink selections, funky courtyard out back as well as outside seating in the front. Friendly bar staff.
M. K.
Beautiful pub with interesting beverages on the tap. Food is ok but nothing too fancy. Lo tation is very convenient for pre drinks before you hit the town.
S. C.
Nice big beer garden which catches the sun, friendly staff. Maybe not the cheapest place in town but great location so that's kind of to be expected.
M. W.
Top Pub friendly staff and good Beer 🍻 😎
B. S.
Great Pub, fine selection of beer, wine, and spirits. I love the back lounge, plenty of space to be somewhat alone even on a busy day..
N. K.
Always a good time at the flyer!
S. L.
Large and comfortable with a formidable drinks selection. The food is also good and reliable. There's a nice outdoor area out the back too.
J. S.
Great pub, plenty of room and friendly staff
A. G.
It is not a gastropub but good beer.
It doesn't take cash.
R. M.
good atmosphere and very interesting interior. Looks like a bunch of buildings merged together forming some irregular layouts... we had good fun in a group of 15-20.
v. m.
Good selection of drinks - food seems to have gone a bit downhill. Gets very busy and has a big sunny garden
R. M.
Friendly Staff and great traditional pub food! The cheese board was delicious with four contrasting cheeses with crackers and chutney.
J. G.
Cracking local pub, with nice food
S. D.
It's a bit of a bleaker atmosphere these days with the ordering system. On the plus side - you get served very quickly!
B. W.
Fantastic assistance with our Christmas party for 46 people. Service was excellent and attention to detail was superb. Food was a very high quality. Thanks
V. A.
Great pub ideally located! They have a lovely rear garden and the atmosphere is simple and cosy.
L. B.
It's a nice environment but very expensive. Still ,they seem to try to get interesting beers in and hve recently had a refit and it looks pretty good.
P. G.
Great selection of craft beers. Nice food. Friendly staff. Dog friendly. Amazing garden!!
J. W.
One of my favourite pubs in Bristol since moving here in 2006. Great food, service and atmosphere 😊

Fantastic place, wonderful atmosphere, fantastic food and great staff
S. H.
Good range of beers, lagers, ciders and fins with a beer garden (with heaters) at the back
J. B.
Great pub. Lovely outdoor space.
M. W.
Good pub, with great decor & a large garden. Can only criticise that the drinks are a little on the pricey side and it can be over crowded sometimes.
j. p.
Trendy pub, beers are main stream. Bar staff ok. Had a burger which was delicious
D. Z.
Classic pub with sports events
S. B.
Good service, decent food, average prices. Good all rounder pub.
A. C.
Acceptable food but nothing to get excited about. I went in because I was hungry. Won't be going again.
N. R.
~Really good selection of beer and ales both on tap and bottles. Always got a good atmosphere and the food is okay for a snack.
N. J.
Only had a drink here but the food looked tasty would go there I'd I go back to Bristol.
C. G.
Only went for drinks. Loads of space inside and out. Clean
K. M.
Good beers, great food, nice atmosphere. Not yet ruined by dogs in the garden....
J. D.
Pretty decent fare, not amazing value but a good selection of beers and the food is decent enough pub grub.
J. G.
Good choice of draught beers. Good selection of pub food available. I would recommend trying the veggie burger.
M. L.
Food and atmosphere were nothing special unfortunately. Looked like there is a great beer farden though.
A. P.
Very nice pint
S. A.
Although it's a chain pub made to look like an independent I really like the atmosphere here. The beer selection is pretty good.
S. W.
Wonderful food with lovely staff. Handsome blonde boy was very helpful.
C. G.
Food was lovely as was the service, staff polite and very covid aware
C. B.
Friendly service, nice beer garden and good for pub food.
S. B.
Amazing burger (chicken katsu) and good service. Also has nice big tables for large groups, and a good outdoor space.
J. L.
This is one of my regular drinking holes, i come here because of the people it attracts. It is a chilled place with a great atmosphere and a lot of choices of beer. Yay.
M. F.
Great pub with a warm atmosphere, friendly staff and a good selection of drinks to choose from
D. B.
Very popular place with all amenities and better than standard pub grub....good fun
J. K.

Amazing decor, great staff and runs like a dream. One of the best pubs around in Bristol
L. S.
They fit us in last minute and the food was absolutely delicious. Thank you!
W. M.
Massive pub which gets really busy on an evening. Good place to meet a large group of mates. Outside seating area.
S.
Had two roasts on Sunday, both very nice but small portions for the price imo
J. S.
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Good selection of beer, ale, wines etc.
A. W.
Not too pricey, great up dated decor, helpful staff and a nice menu that balances 'gastro' with classic favourites.

G. P.
Great atmosphere, nice range of ciders and ales, lovely back garden with heaters and very very friendly staff!
P. H.
Great food and great service from Lydia, she also recommended a lovely gin choice for me!
J. T.
Good friendly pub with comfy seating but a bit more expensive than the neighbors.
T. C.
Great pub. Friendly service. Cheap food and good cider.
