Reviews of The Duck & Willow
K. L.
Nice friendly staff, accommodated a table for us without a booking. Enjoyed the food, just felt the wine list could have done with a few more on there, lacking a NZ Sauv! X
B. S.
The staff were lovely and the food was amazing with big portions and plenty of gluten free options available.
As a disabled person the bathroom was also close by and easily accessible which made the time there easier and less stressful.
The only issue we had was the wait, it was practically empty when we arrived, it took 5-10 minutes to be seated and then took nearly an hour to get our food. If it was busy then fair enough but that was definitely longer than I would expect for a lunch time service.
T. T.
Lovely Birthday meal, fab menu, couple of vegan meals, I had delicious Thai tofu curry.
Everybody enjoyed various meals. Kids portions are huge. Dog friendly and the staff were helpful and also friendly. Colouring page and crayons helped little ones wait for food. Definitely a winner and will be returning very soon.

Well this was an unexpected treat.
A menu that was familiar, but with twists and a specials board that elevated the choice very considerably. Great beer from the Bristol Beer Factory, plus friendly and helpful staff.
Was more than happy to leave a generous tip we enjoyed it so much.

A cosy and warm feeling pub. We attended for a private event which was hosted and catered for in a lovely, well presented and warm Marquee at the rear of the pub. (Despite it being a very cold night, the patio style heaters kept the venue very warm).
The drink offer was good although if being honest I was let down by the choices of spiced rum and whisky. Only the default brands you'd find in any old bar were available.
Despite this though, and the limited parking, I found this pub to be warm, friendly, cosy and I would definitely visit again.
L. O.
Excellent food and service every single time. Dog friendly, lovely warm atmosphere, attentive friendly staff and the food really is excellent quality. One of our favourite pubs - we travel from Bedminster!
T. S.
The staff and owners have done a great job in making this a nice place to eat. The menu is fairly small but what they do is done very well. I had the morrocan salad which was excellent and well presented.
T. H.
Fan of the Gloucester Old Spot so we thought we'd give this place a try too. Dog friendly, which is ideal for Vassels Park. Great pub. Well managed. Lovely food. Cosy atmosphere. Reasonable prices. If you've been and you like it - try Gloucester Old Spot, if you haven't been, give it a try!
A. W.
Absolutely cracking meal. Haven’t been in there for food since it changed from the Beaufort Hunt, many moons ago.
Food was really good quality and reasonably priced vs some other pubs close by they have gone off the charts with their pricing.
Excellent service too, will be back!

Duck and Willow.
We wanted to catch up with some friends before we set off to Spain and they suggested the Duck and Willow which has been renovated and apparently is gaining a reputation for good food, so we booked a table for 1930 hrs.
The pub is close to, if not opposite Downend Cricket Club which I suspect influenced the name.
I was driving so I was grateful to find a parking space in the Pub car park right outside the front door. Once these few spaces have been taken, its a bit of a bun fight to find street parking.
We introduced ourselves at the bar and we were shown to our table and given a menu each, whilst the server took the drinks order.
The venue is pleasant enough with pine topped tables perhaps a bit too close together but we weren't squashed, however our friends were sitting on a sort of bench (their side of the table) and both complained of back ache when we got up to leave.
The place started to fill up quite quickly and by the time we left it was packed so booking an early slot was a good idea.
The menu had some great options so choosing was always going to be a problem.
Strangely there are two sections to the menu.
The Restaurant Menu with:
'Single Muscle cut of Devon ruby red beef rump with a herb puree, pommes Anna, savoy cabbage, blue cheese and wild mushroom duxelle and a red wine jus' being the most expensive option at £19.50
I've no idea what most of this is but it sounded delicious.
The Bar Menu with:
Rump Steak, with 'an' onion ring, roast Tomato and mushroom, Chunky chips and dressed salad @ £16.95 with an additional £2.50 for Peppercorn sauce which seems a bit miserly?
When it came to it we all chose from the Bar menu which is still served at the same table though Im not sure why they make a distinction, perhaps the restaurant food isn't served in the bar area though I found it hard to see where the bar ended and the restaurant began?
The Fish and Chips was excellent. £13.50 but may vary.
Two good fillets of fish (unknown variety but apparently sustainable) on a good portion of chips, nicely cooked with a small tub of Marrow Fat mushy peas and a Tartar sauce dip. This was a really good choice and I would recommend this to anyone who loves Fish and Chips.
My partner surprisingly went for the 'Southern Fried Chicken Burger' that tasted delicious.£10.95.
Presentation was good though serving chips in an enamel mug is a bit too gimmicky for me. The only criticism from Jaki was technical. In order to eat this she had to deconstruct it and there wasn't enough space on the plate to do that, so it all became a bit of a logistical nightmare.
Maybe an additional side plate or a slightly bigger main plate would have been helpful.
There was no Ketchup or sauce served with the meal's though small tubs of sauce were available from the server if you asked for them.
I chose the 'Flaked and dressed Gammon' dressed with honey, mustard and fresh herbs, served with a poached Duck egg, chunky chips and salad. £11.95.
Gammon Steak is my all time favourite go to Pub meal, I don't eat it at home as Jaki doesn't like it, its 'Too much meat' for her.
But this was, I think, a roast (may have been boiled ?) gammon joint that had been pulled, like they do with pork and dressed with enough honey to make it sweet. It was an absolute winner. I was surprised to read that the eggs were duck, a novelty but I'm not sure I noticed?
The salad was from memory a sort of wilted spinach which went really well with the meat and the Chips were well cooked, crisp and tasty.
Unfortunately the 'Kedgery and Potato cakes' let things down. £9.50.
At best these were two rather dry, plain fish cakes with a side of salad. Very dull, very unappealing and would have ben better served as a starter than a main course. Very disappointing.
Whilst I'm in negative mode, there was a speaker just above our table and we found it difficult to speak over the music being played.
We will come back again and I would happily recommend this to friends and family.
Well done Team, a great Job.
M. J.
A super venue with absolutely fabulous 1st class quality buffet food. The scotch eggs and sausage rolls were the best ever. Sadly our time here was to be together after a funeral of a very dear friend. The staff were courteous and attentive. Can't speak highly enough of this super place and most definitely will return.
P. G.
Fine food good service helpful staff,
The mussels we had were superb all food tasty and hot, which may seem an odd comment but rarely these days do you get really hot food, well done, we will return again
A. R.
Very high standard food. Menu changes frequently so I won't recommend a particular dish. However, this is way more than pub grub.
S. E.
Great evening for my family birthday party, had visit from Tracey & Simon from Amsterdam great to see them, the meal was fine had a lovely pudding, thank you
M. J.
Lovely pie and chips and friendly staff
L. M.
We came here for breakfast one Saturday and sat in the garden. The food was excellent, everyone really enjoyed their food.
H. B.
Went for steak night this evening food was delicious as usual !!! incredible value, Service was also very good !!!
R. W.
What a nice pub. Three of us all had different meals one had a roast. I had fish and chips. One had fish with cauliflower cheese. All enjoyed mine cost £13.50.
Also had a pint of thatchers, in two halves which was ice cold and Really nice. This pub was once called THE BEAUFORT. alfie biggs who used to play for Bristol rovers was once the landlord years ago. Recommend this pub for food. Plus all girl waitresses who were all very pleasent and attentive. Richard.
A. A.
Very dog friendly, barman offered water for the dog, quick service, delicious food (home cooked) & reasonably priced. Would recommend! :)
G. R.
Good food on offer at reasonable prices. Service attentive even though busy
A. P.
The food is really good and the place itself looks really nice. Will definitely come back.
C. “. B.
Relaxed and friendly pub, serving most excellent food and non- alcoholic beer.
S. M.
Great food, nice beer, awesome staff. A fun time had by all.
J. M.
Food was really lovely. Usual Sort of prices and pleasant venue. Parking can be a bit difficult. The four Star instead of five star rating is done to the beer/lager prices, they are a bit steep. Food wise though I will definitely be eating there again.
C. S.
Excellent food, drinks, service and music! Definitely recommend!!
H. E.
We came here for dinner for my Dads birthday and the food and service was great. We were a party of 10 so we pre-ordered the food, when we got there they asked if we wanted the food to come out soon or if we wanted to have a little bit of time and a few drinks first . The food came out all together apart from one meal which was a few minutes behind and because of this they received a free cocktail. The food was lovely with great vegan options available. The staff were really friendly and helpful. I would definitely come here again!
N. S.
Always a pleasant experience visiting the the Duck & Willow. Food is always nice and staff friendly and helpful. Recommended

I've been a few times and a lovely space both indoor and outdoor. We had a late Sunday lunch and had pork which was very fatty. When I pointed this out, I was told that's how belly pork is...OK, I know that pork belly tends to be more fatty, but this was 70% fatty. Plus it wasn't pointed out it was belly pork at the point of ordering otherwise I may have chosen otherwise..As it was towards the end of service some of the waiting staff were congregating just outside on the patio..not a problem I thought..I'm definitely not a prude, but the foul language that was being used openly by the staff concerned me..might be living on reputation a bit imo..

We went for lunch at the Duck and Willow today. It had been recommended to us pre-pandemic. I really fancied a burger but so often they or epically disappointing. However, I decided to go for it.
It was NOT disappointing!!!
Picture the food advert, showing a person biting into their food with an expression of it being the most delicious food they have ever tasted.
It was the best burger I have ever tasted in a restaurant.
The burger was light, juicy and delicately flavoured. The chips were great. The coleslaw was sadly disappointing (hence the 4*) but I didn't care about that, as it was the burger I was after. Thank you chef!
Can't wait to return and try other culinary delights. Great service also!!!
E. P.
Nicely decorated space, friendly and efficient service and very tasty well cooked food.
p.
Had a exceptional dirty burger, with the pulled pork. Lovely atmosphere and super friendly staff
J. “. A. G.
Lovely cooked food, attentive staff, dog friendly, clean and good with our young feral child family. Everyone was well fed and too stuffed for pud... A bit of a shame! Problem with the till but they rectified it and took money off the bill no questions asked. 👍
C. F.
Just had a fantastic lunch here. Great food, great choice, great service. The garden is looking better than ever. We were there with my toddler & they gave her a colouring in page with crayons, her drink came in a plastic cup & the kids portion was really generous.
L. M.
Excellent well cooked food with a good range of options. From small plates, home made burgers, pub standards, specials menu and a selection of excellent desserts in a middle tier price range.
C. L.
Really nice find! Was looking for a nice pub lunch but had the dog with us and a lot of others were closed in a Monday. The decor is really modern and the tables nicely spread out. They have outdoor seating, a really good range of alcoholic drinks, a lovely breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. We will be back!
F. P.
Been here a few times and love it. Food always nice and service is great! Food and drink is a bit pricier than average bit food is nice.
S. s.
Lovely atmosphere, great staff and delicious food. We will be back.
P. S.
Good food nice beers nothing special but everything nice.
R. V.
Amazing Sunday lunch and incredible service for 14 of us including 3 kids! One of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had and definitely the best in Bristol.
Staff here are impeccable and didn’t even flinch when one the kids accidentally dropped an entire roast dinner on the floor! Just continued with a smile and took the food off the bill!
Thank you so much!
Food - A++
Atmosphere - A++
Service - A++++

Not great but not bad, went for a 40th birthday lunch, pre-ordered our food and had from 2-4. Service was a bit on the slow side but they were very keen to get us out at 4. The food was ok, I had tempura prawns but the batter was more fish shop batter than light batter and a smear of dip. Roast chicken was lovely, honey roast carrots were lush. Didn't try pud.
L. W.
Good lunches, proper Yorkshire puddings. We booked for Sunday lunch, but would have been able to just walk in.
m.
Honestly, I just dropped in for a swift pint, instead of waiting 20 minutes in the damp, for a bus, at a nearby stop. It wasn't even noon, so it was quiet. The pub was clean and tidy. The polite lady at the bar even asked if I wanted to set up a tab. Believe me, if I hadn't needed to catch that bus, I'd have stayed all afternoon and racked up an impressive tab.
r. g.
Great Sunday lunch and service. Dog was made to feel welcome too. 😊🐶
K. B.
Good food, good service, friendly staff, will return.
j. s.
Haven't been to D&W for a while due to disappointing service... but decided to try again and go, last minute, for Sunday lunch. Was NOT disappointed by the food, but the service was pretty bad. Had to ask to order, had to ask to get plates cleared and order desert, had to ask to get bill.. each time waiting a good 5 mins before someone came over!! I totally understand why they are popular, as food is fantastic, but service continues to leave a lot to be desired.
D. D.
Very nice food. Dog friendly.
D. Q.
Absolutely amazing food great service aswell steak was perfect highly recommended this place
D. M.
Amazing food and service.
Great atmosphere.
Brilliant staff.
Chef needs to go on Great British Menu
J. M.
Fab food and such lovely staff. Can't fault this pub. Very family friendly, relaxed and comfortable atmosphere....and the food.. to die for!!
R. T.
Consistently brilliant roast, highly recommend you get the cauliflower cheese on the side too! Great group of staff serving and a nice cosy Sunday lunch vibe. Highly recommended.
E. R.
We loved it here. The service was excellent. We were seated originally next to some customers who were very loud indeed (we had no issue with this, it's a pub, people get loud, whatever no problem) but we were moved to a quieter corner of the place which I was really impressed with it was lovely. The food was mostly excellent, I had the mussels they were great, the creme brulee desert was out of this world, I'm glad we shared the portion was huge! The only let down was the paella, I tried a bit it was just tomato rice. Not exactly what we expected in comparison to the other dishes we had but we don't know much about paella so maybe we're wrong? Not sure. Anyway we will most certainly be back and I highly recommend it!
J. D.
Had 241 burgers on Monday.
Great food, good value and good service.
C. A.
Great food, friendly staff! What more should I say!
B. P.
The pub has a lovely garden area. Food is great. Recommend the Dirty Burger. Staff are lovely.
There is a large covered area with heaters and tables with umbrellas in the open.
It felt really safe.
R. G.
Great breakfast, good quality produce and fab service. Good selection on the menu and a large range of drinks.
j. h.
Friendly clean alternative to the Union Inn. Quiet enough for discussion, great atmosphere and wide range of flavored gins. Great afternoon drinks. Staff very accommodating.
E. B.
Went on Friday evening, lovely outside space. Food was great and presented well. Drink choice was really good too. I would say they need outdoor heating up maybe they don't have it out as it was meant to be hot but it was pretty chilly outside.
M. A.
Very good menu. Starters are a bit suspect but the mains and desserts were sublime. I can highly recommend the lamb and my husband said it was one of the best steaks he has ever had. Not the cheapest meal we've had but excellent quality and value.
D. W.
Visited with family very friendly and helpful and a great meal. Will visit again when I am in the area.
r. b.
Good to see one of our favourite pubs emerge from lockdown. Sensibly laid out garden with good management for social distancing. Moderately busy on a Friday afternoon, kitchen a little slow but staff were working hard and with a smile.
N. B.
We popped in here for a family Sunday roast. 9 of us all together so a big group. The service was brilliant considering it was Sunday roast the staff were always on hand to provide service. Food was amazing! I found myself ordering a veggie roast, and I'm not veggie! That's how nice the veggie wellington sounded. So far it has not disappointed.
V. C. (. m.
This is an absolutely beutiful pub with great service and a brilliant selection of ales and ciders (other drinks are available too, but why would you). The breakfast menu is pretty amazing, and the nacho platter massive (probably meant to be shared... but.. umm covid....😇.). All in all a great place to go for drinks with friends.
Parking is a squeeze. But thare is a large supermarket car park within a 5 min walk (Dont Drink and Drive folks)
A. S.
Service was unhurried, not in a bad way. We were given plenty of time with our meal and not pursued to pay the bill. Food excellent. We had the vegan curry and goat cheese pizza.
T. B.
Food was really nice. Beautifully cooked pizza and chips. No complaints with that. Can't give 5 stars as I think its ridiculous that you would stop serving breakfast. I mean......why?
V. J.
*Updated* went for a roast recently and the experience was much better. Beef was quite fatty and roasters needed another fifteen mins but it was all tasty and staff are friendly
Also had the dirty duck sharing chips the week before. Chips weren't crispy at all, more a solid squidge of potato.....could have used an extra bit of time in the fryer to help seal before adding toppings
K. W.
Great place for your Sunday roast dinner. A little bit on a pricey side, but portions are generous and the roast dinner made for you in the kitchen, not carved in the middle of the crowded restaurant being more cool than hot. The taste is delightful and the cauliflower cheese is a must on a side.
Can be very crowded, do consider booking a table beforehand.
r.
I ate here last night with friends. Greeting and service was great, relaxed and welcoming.
Now the food.
I had the venison. Which was absolutely perfect. Served to perfection. Friends had the lamb and said it was equally as good. It certainly looked fantastic and smelt awesome. Hopefully I shall return before the menu changes.
Thanks D&W.
n. b.
very nice setting outside area very good great food and staff were on the ball
S. P.
Met friends here for a roast dinner on a Sunday. Delicious - I had lamb, partner had beef. Food was excellent and the drink selection was great too. You will not leave here hungry. The portions are generous and the yorkshire pud was huge! Will definitely return.
M. P.
Lovely services of staff, warm pub, calm nice environment with relaxing music and food was delicious!
R. G. (. G.
A great venue, fantastic food although disappointing steak isn't on lunch menu!! .. It is slightly more expensive than other pubs in the area but worth it for a relaxed and well presented environment. Kid friendly and a solid choice of beers and lagers for the adults. Highly recommend.
D. T.
The food was quite good with the onion rings being the highlight. Was surprised to see the staff having drinks during service. Not my place to criticise but the service was not at the level I expected
P.
Really nice food and staff all wearing masks for vivid. Tables all spaced out.
Sadly only 4 stars as we were overcharged and had a £20 bottle of wine added to our bill. Hopefully this was a genuine mistake so we would try again
L. W.
Great evening. Most amazing pizza and Dirty Duck chips.2 for 1 cocktails. Great friendly welcoming team. Thanks frist night out in along time made memorable.
Thanks Duck & Willow
L. P.
A great meal at The Duck and Willow. Food was great, service a little slow because it was full to the rafters in the restaurant and bar, but this just made it a more social meal, which was pleasant. Good value for money as well with good portion sizes. Only downside was, due to the sheer number of people dining, it was a little noisy which meant we then had to add to the noise by talking louder to be able to be heard across a table for 8. Looking forward to going back.
A. D.
Breakfast was very tasty, and well cooked just felt a little expensive for what you got. The meals all came out of different times the first person served in party had finished by the time the last meal had arrived.overal good.
k. w.
Great service. Wonderful food. Reasonably priced. Will go again and again. Thank you.
R. B.
We visited on valentines day and weren't aware of the set menu deal that night. However the staff and chef happily accommodated to our requests for options from the main menu. Lovely decor and delicious food. We had heard good reviews from friends and family and it did not disappoint on the night.
K. L.
Fabulous meal and lovely friendly service x
C. T.
Yeah enjoyed the drink nice bar staff who did insist we sat down before being served.
Strict but good. We only stayed for a half and sat outside after being served at the bar
a. 1.
Beautiful food and great service every time
C. J.
Disappointed by the service (we were made to feel like we were an inconvenience by waiting staff). Food was good, but not what you would expect given description on menu. And the bottle of wine was plonked on the table and not opened for us by staff, nor were we offered to taste it (which for a £40 bottle you'd expect). Overall left feeling money not well spent. Would be better going elsewhere
J. P.
Lovely Sunday lunch, somewhat a bit expensive in comparison to other Sunday lunch
Z.
A nice vibe, great food not too greasy and tastes fresh, although main meal portions a bit on the small side.
Friendly staff and decorated with quirks.
Had breakfast and lunch, would definitely come back again if in these parts of Bristol.
H. B.
Pub that's more about the food than about the drink. Great for breakfasts and not too busy. Kids well catered for. Relaxed seating. They were happy to check with the chef re: some weird food restrictions.
M. G.
Went for Sunday lunch, it was okay...the beef was decent but the vegetables were generally undercooked and I like my vegetables on the slightly under-done side. I think the biggest let-down was the roast potatoes... they were too large and didn't either crisp properly on the outside or get fluffy enough inside
C. F.
Came here for a late Sunday lunch; wanted to be sat in the pavillion and they were really accomodating even though we were the only ones out there. Great food, great service. Will be back!
D.
Recently renovated which gives it a fresh feel on the inside, with some nice individual touches. They also have a beer garden too which is great. However, they seem to be on the backfoot already, with a lack of offered extras. For example, in the baby change they offered handy wipe boxes, which were unfortunately out of stock. The food varied too, some of the Sunday roasts where pretty poor on standard but the alternative meals where nice. Displaying the mass pile of Yorkshire puddings though is really not a great look. We also had some slow service when it came to drinks dispite it not being particularly busy.
M. T.
Outstanding food and staff and one of the best beer gardens I've seen, the landlord keeps adding to it making it one of the best pub gardens to enjoy, wide selection and drinks and cocktails and everything on the menu is amazing.
M. P.
After spending an afternoon running around, it was nice to spend 1/2 hour to myself with a couple of friends in this lovely pub!!
First time in and will definitely be coming back if passing!!
Was quite busy and struggled to find a table but this is a good thing as it was full of friendly and polite customers, excelent atmosphere and no fighting (especially for a Saturday night after England/Wales 6 Nations)
L. T. O. Y. T. (.
Very excited to try this place so went for midweek lunch. Great menu and food was lovely but....it took so long! Despite there being only 3 occupied tables. My meal was sat on the hotplate so long it was warm at best by time it got to me. Even so worth 4 stars and if they speed up maybe 5. I'll will return as they've so much I want to try, the menu really is great.
Edit: Returned in December 2017. Still same lovely food but service has indeed been sped up so I'll definitely return and actually give it a 5
J. M.
Went to an event here as it was booked out for a full morning. Staff were great, atmosphere was good, and buffet food was very good. My partner also has an allergy and they were more than happy and able to accommodate with a great choice for him.
B. D.
Lovely menu choice. Standard fancy pub prices. Burger and nachos looked amazing, the fishcakes were a bit disappointing and the Keftedes were veggie which was sad... would recommend the onion rings though they were super crispy and massive.
S. G.
Was a really nice pub and the service was brilliant. It was a really nice atmosphere and had a good kids menu. The menu had really good options, the mains was a little disappointing. The chicken had been overcooked and was dry and the pasta hadn't been heated through.
L. T.
Attended for Sunday lunch, lemonade and starters were lovely. Both had the Sunday roast (beef) - asked for no red cabbage on one - but it came with it anyway. Beef was nice and rare if not a little stringy - difficult to chew .. need better knives. Roast potatoes could have been crunchier and there is always room for more gravy ! Cauliflower purée was lovely !!
Waiting staff - mixed bag , lovely couple of guys very nice / attentive but the girl was only smiling/attentive when it came to paying our bill. Perhaps just and off day ?
W. B.
I really like this pub, dont get to go very often but my mate lives just round the corner and i always try and pop in for at least one whenever i am in the area. Good beers, comfy and contempory interior design make for a good place to eat and drink. They do a quiz too that i must try, will update once i have done so.
J. B.
Lunch today with a friend. Excellent service and food. Creme Brulé was fantastic, if rather a large serving! Bill for two came in at just under £40.00 for 2 mains, 2 puddings, 2 coffees and 2 large soft drinks.
B. P.
The garden courtyard is really nice, a good place to sit in the sun and have a few beers. Menu was limited and doesn’t match what is shown on the website. Service was so, so.
P. D.
Nice food with a good atmosphere. Well run with excellent staff. Will go again .
l. n.
It started off well as our end of the pub was empty. Meal arrived and was very nice and hot. We finished our meal and then we were forgotten about, by then a few more people were sat at our end. In the end I had to get the attention of another waiter who got our waiter over so we could order a dessert. We ordered chocolate brownie with ice cream and chocolate sauce but when it arrived hence no choc sauce, again called the waiter who said he d go and find out but never came back to us. We went up to the bar to pay and mentioned the sauce and the only response was I ll mention it to the chef. Very expensive and quite disappointing.
S. S.
Nice atmosphere all food well presented. Downside cured coley fish cakes asked if served with potatoes told lots of potatoe in fish cake this not mentioned on menu thought it would be fish Should say it’s a potatoe cake as lacking in fish. Disappointing.Served on a bed of Savoy cabbage. On menu should have been wilted spinach and green beans that also missing. To be fair did complain and £3.00 was deducted .
M. G.
I'd give 3.5 stars if I could. Good but not outstanding food. Duck main was very nice, though perhaps could have done with some sauce. Salmon pate starter nice again but not enough ciabatta toast slices for the quantity of pâté and didn't get much wasabi flavour. Service friendly but slow at times. Pub well decorated and comfortable. Reasonable selection of ales, but how about a few craft beers in bottles and/or some Estrella Galicia (think this is served in the sister pub). Overall it was a pleasant experience.
A. L.
really good lunch, great to be back out again. Good service and food very enjoyable, did not have to cook or do the dishes.
S. W.
Very disappointed with the menu on offer. 4 of the 7 starters weren't available. No duck on the very limited menu. I struggled to find something I wanted. We went there for a family birthday so I didn't really want a burger or fish and chips and refused to pay nearly £17 for a rump steak! I wanted to go here because of the menu advertised online not what was on offer on the day. I've only give a 3 star rating because other people in the group enjoyed their meal, it would've be less just on my experience. As you can gather I won't be returning.
J. P.
Have been here a few times, the food quality has always been good. However we did find it has become a little pricey, and the current Lamb, Duck menus too rich and over powering, which could have been improved if flavouring was a little less intense.
T. H.
Lovely pub, decent food, friendly staff. Only minus was the veggie burger had a lot of one spice in particular, it was slightly overpowering. Wouldn't put me off going back though!
E. B.
A great place to visit for all occasions, visited here Sunday for a roast. The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. Moderately priced, however still great value for money. Would highly recommend.
H. M.
Gorgeous little bar with a really cosy atmosphere! Very relaxed and beautiful looking.
Well worth a visit and the staff were great! Fantastic range of gins too!
L. B.
Best sunday roast ever! with a Yorkshire pudding the size of a football, lovely veg and best of all extra gravy, well done to all of the staff, if you havent visited, you need to, thank you for a fabulous mothers day treat.
J. B.
A lovely pub with a good menu. My veggie burger was mushy and had little taste. My meat- eating friends however were very pleased with theirs.
R. P.
The staff were all very friendly and the food was delicious. I had the Moroccan salad and it completely filled me up!
V. G.
Had a roast dinner outside. They have set up for eating outside fantastic with heaters and a covered area The food was great, lovely pub
L. P.
Best Sunday lunch in Bristol! (Excepting sister pub of course!) Warm welcome and great food. Friendly helpful staff even when busy. Fab place
J. T.
Lovely Sunday roast and lovely service too.
H. S.
Choose this pub due to their reputation for welcoming dogs. Was not disappointed, my little pup was offered water and some lovely doggie treats at the bar!! We'll be back 🐾
B. S.
Great food and service. Only downer was they didn't let us know about the 241 deal before we ordered so didn't take advantage of it
C. M.
Clean and spacious outdoor area, reasonably priced drinks especially for Bristol. Would visit again, maybe to try some food as well!
P. L.
Great pub. We moved to downend last year from clifton and this pub is a great little nugget which fits in well. Opposite downend cricket club it ticks all the boxes for a Saturday afternoon with a few beers and really adds to the horseshoe as another choice of good pub for downend. Baby and kid friendly, the bar staff are brilliant as well. Well worth a visit!!!
C. L.
Excellent vegan nut roast, nice ambience and very good service. Will definitely return.
l. b.
Food was really really good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend
A. C.
Good roast on a Sunday, I like the laid back feel and the fact people can bring there dogs inside. Just feel some tables are placed to close to one another and can feel a little cramped at times.
t. c.
Great food. Good atmosphere. Had a second meal here. Even better than the first. Top quality for the money. Bravo.
P. K.
A smashing pub/food experience. Friendly and attentive staff, excellent courses... the nduja scotch egg is a masterpiece and a fine selection of ales and wines.
b.
Had a great time, the Sunday roast I think could have had the veg cooked for maybe 1 or 2 minutes more but was really good, the beef was great i would go again no problem
L. M.
Wonderful food and lovely, lively atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended!
T. P.
Excellent lunch here on Tuesday - brilliant food, excellent and attentive service and great beer. What more could you want?!! Highly recommended.
A.
What a lovely night last night. Thank you forlooking after us on our anniversary and sorry staying late. Food and atmosphere was wonderful.
J. S.
Great pub ... brilliant sunday roasts ... and less people there than i would expect... shocked it was half empty for sunday roast. There is also now a small kids area out the back with a newly refurbished garden with astro turf.
D. J.
Superb food, good drinks and friendly staff. The beef bourginon was both the largest and best version of the dish I've had.
S. H.
Only stopped for a quick drink. The food looked great. Really like this pub.
L. P.
Great food great drinks and a fantastic atmosphere. The new owners have made this place a great place to go
C. G.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere.
J. W.
Large party of 10 on a Saturday evening. Great service, amazing food.
J. X.
Had the Ruby Red Rump steak and it was perfection. Melt in the mouth steak, perfect Pomme Anna and jus and cabbage tasted amazing. Great experience, highly recommended.
C. M.
The food was high quality, as always, and well presented. Service was efficient and friendly and they have the COVID precautions in place in a well organised but unobtrusive manner. Would definitely recommend.
t. b.
Delicious dirty chips and the best onion rings ever. Gorgeous garden setting.
A.
Great pub food, great service and a really nice beer garden. Highly recommend it!

S. R.
Excellent, the food was fantastic and the staff were attentive, I can honestly say it was perfect. We have already booked a return visit and can't wait.
D. D.
3 great meals. Haven't had lamb breast for years and this was virtually all meat with crisp skin. Would recommend.
L. T.
Excellent food all week but especially in Sundays. Friendly regular staff who are always willing to help . Well run local community pub
K. B.
Lovely pub with a nice atmosphere.
Good, friendly staff, good choice of beers and plenty of seating.
Will definitely be back.
B. P.
Nice atmosphere, good food. I would recommend and I will visit again. One downside only few parking spaces outside so you have to look around for parking.
P. R.
Good quality food, it felt a touch over priced but that's probably nit-picking a little after only one visit. The decor was good and there are baby changing facilities too.
K. P.
The menu is quite limited but it is understandable when you see the quality of the food, it's fresh and clearly not cheap ingredients like some other restaurants. Is usually busy so call in advance to check
S. F.
Lovely meal, good selection of drinks. Reccomend highly what I had which was the gnocchi starter, venison, the Malbec and creme brulee.
T. &. C.
Ross was the gentleman behind the bar, great knowledge of the drinks and made it a great experience. He clearly cares about his work and wants to move this business forward. Thank you Ross. Thomas.
S. R.
Friendly, accommodating staff. Great food and atmosphere. Downside i didn't get the starter i pre ordered due to a miss count on the delivery
D. R.
Great service, good food. Really good roast with nice portions and well cooked veg. Beef was great and good Yorkshire pudding.
K. C.
Had lunch today, nice pub, friendly staff and good food. Loo roll in the ladies would have been nice! Will be returning though😉
l.
During the week the food and the service are excellent. However on a Sunday when it is busier the staff struggle to cope often getting flustered and ignoring tables. The Sunday lunch is average.
5 * for Mon - Sat.
3 * for Sunday.
R. J.
Great food, good service, dog friendly. Thumbs up from us after a really lovely Valentine's Day meal.
s. t.
Clean, friendly and relaxed. Brunch is good value with a free tea or coffee. Big things planned, what's not to like?
t. p.

K. C.

Only downside, staff very friendly, great atmosphere, well done

I've lived in Downend for a while and this place's only failing so far is that I didn't find it sooner. James runs an excellent pub and restaurant.
R. C.
Very friendly, garden was lovely in the sun, downside was toilets were grubby, no loo roll and none available (tried to take little ones for a wee)
