Reviews of The George Inn
L. C.
Cannot thank the George Inn enough for hosting our Wedding Party last night. Pete and the team were amazing, so friendly and accommodating with all our requests and so helpful throughout the planning stages of our party.
The venue is fun and relaxed in a great location and perfect for the type of party we wanted. The private bar & private room upstairs is a great space and very easy to dress and make your own. It also led out to the decking and garden and was perfect for our big arrival in the sunshine. Buffet food was also fantastic as we're the drinks selection.
We had the best time and would highly recommend The George Inn to anyone looking for a wedding party venue.
D. A.
Very dog friendly and lovely staff, even brought our pampered pooch a bowl of water.
Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Perfect for a spot of lunch after a walk at Ashton Court, Leigh Woods or Abbot's Pool all of which are close by.

A pub with a very large garden and terrace.
We ate a Sunday roast and the quality was good but perhaps it lacked a little more quantity for me.
The waiters were very friendly at all times and they were nice people.
In my opinion an interesting site and if you own a pet you will have no problem taking it because pets are allowed access.

I really enjoyed the interior as well as the food and drink at this establishment. It reminded me of a time passed. In particular, the staff was very eleemosynary and seemed to have treated their jobs with dignity and grace. Categorically however, a young man served me a glorious roast meal with utmost respect and valour. Will wish to be dining here again!
J.
Nice interior and atmosphere. Food is usually nice and service is ok. Some of the staff come across a bit stand offish and I didn't feel the most welcome. Also very difficult to park if you come by car. Pretty pricey as well, especially for the roast dinner.
D. J.
Superb Sunday roast last weekend. Most of us had the nut roast, which was delicious. Generous portions. Friendly and attentive staff. Definitely planning to visit this pub more in future!
J. U.
We held a wake here in the lovely garden room. Pete was exceptionally helpful throughout, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the sandwiches and cakes spot on. Thank you for helping us through a difficult day.
D. P.
I have had 2 roasts here. Service is always great. The roasts are incredible. I've had beef and the lamb. Both delightful. The cauli cheese side is a must. Would recommend
M. G.
Stopping in the local area so called in for some food and a few pints, Guinness was nice, I had a pizza that was really tasty but it was that big I couldn’t eat it all, nice atmosphere with log a burner. 👍🏻👍🏻
P. G.
Butcombe original was very nice. Food was OK but nothing great. The George has change many times over the last 10 years or so and I really not sure what it's trying to be at the moment. Has great potential I'm sure.

It looks like The George Inn of Old is back. Big thanks to the managers and staff for making it a success. Great destination pub after a long walk or cycle. Recommended booking.

Amazing food and a beautiful garden area. Really friendly staff. Quiet country location with park. Country pub with a modern twist!! Although drinks are on the expensive side
A. H.
Friendly staff, delicious food, good portion sizes and a great back garden with a small kids climbing area. Will be back for sure

Fine Sunday lunch, nice room great atmosphere. Good team, all meals served at the same time 👌we will be back
L. M.
Dog Friendly, secure garden and perfect lunch stop on our way back to Cornwall from Buckinghamshire. Will visit again, good food and friendly staff.

Had Sunday roast here today in a pre organised event with about 45 friends in an upstairs room. The weather was fantastic as we all gathered in the garden before we were seated. Nearly everyone on our table had beef which was fantastic with no complaints. A only very minor gripe that haven’t have stopped me giving it 5 stars were that the dedicated bar we had was poorly stocked (no Diet Coke, Guinness and other drinks that were available in main bar). But considering the pub had to produce and serve 45 dinners it was a job very well done and the staff should be congratulated on their professionalism. Great afternoon. Thanks.
J. C.
A good pint in the pub, worth the price.
G. S.
Lovely pub and garden but need to up there game with Sunday Roasts and service. Granted 1st Sunday back after lockdown but portions and food needs improving, served hot and with plenty of gravy. A shame as they were trying hard but definitely room for improvement.
D. C.
Very nice pub with a modern spacious garden and play area for the youngsters. Good selection of drinks. We only had a quick snack of chips, but they were very tasty. The staff were very friendly, but service was slow and hard to get their attention at times.
N. H.
Good vegan curry and friendly, helpful staff. Room temperature was rather cold. Nice interior. Definitely worth a return visit.
A. B.
An unbelievable afternoon and Jess was amazing and provided the best service I have experienced in a long time!
R. D.
Burgers are solid balls of meat, unable to eat them without a knife and fork, buns break as they are dry, got bored of eating it. To be fair though, my parters pizza looked really good along with calamari and pop corn chicken (which aren't pop corn chicken but chicken nuggets) along with chips and dips, all tasted good and seasoned well etc.

First time we've been to the George but certainly will not be our last! Would definitely recommend. Drive past it all the time on the way to work and always liked their large wooden signs and so after a walk with the dog thought we'd make a visit. Dog friendly so good start (with bowl and dog treats by entrance). Nice decor (outdoor area looks great too so definitely be back in summer). Authentic homemade pizza with an excellent dough. I had the chicken burger which was so good - chargrilled chicken breast, crispy bacon and avocado - so tasty but without feeling too unhealthy, the quality of the food was excellent. Friendly service. Nice wood burner. What more do you need!
B. U.
Really tasty food (had the chicken burger) good size portion and pub price food.
Lovely staff, who were professional and friendly and explained there was a wait but got our food out as quickly as they could. Lovely decor and clean loos. Big garden which was a little sun trap, brilliant Wednesday evening catch up with the girlfriends. Happily return. Many thanks
L. S.
Stunning food. Had an absolutely amazing Sunday roast. Beautiful decor, friendly staff, lovely garden.
s. c.
Good beer, reasonable prices & friendly helpful staff
G. K.
We received the usual warm welcome and enjoyed a great meal reasonably priced, with our friends from devon.
H. D.
First pint and meal out since start of lockdown. Where better to enjoy the glorious experience than The George?
m. a.
Nice pub with friendly atmosphere and great that its dog friendly. Felt a little bit misled because I booked for a Sunday lunch and checked on the website that there were also other options for kids that weren't the Sunday roast. The website made it look like they did these, so we booked. Then when we arrived it turned out that they only do roasts on a Sunday! Cue meltdown from fussy kids 🙄 however, we made it work. The roast beef was excellent, as was the lamb. Great Yorkshire puds.
J. H.
Lovely roast lunch today with good service.
Was however disappointed by the flimsy Covid rules! Serving customers who were unmasked at the bar!! Totally unacceptable!
Pub has a really suitable outer area before entering the pub which could be used and manged more effectively to check customers pre entry...no queue at the bar area. Shame as a lovely place...where I actually worked 20yrs ago!!! I was also dining with 2 NHS nurse's who felt quite uncomfortable by the lack of compliance. Such a shame 😞
m. r.
Passed by this pub numerous times. Not been in for years. What a great place. Good layout in pub, sat in garden on a sunny day, very nice. Will return.
S. D.
Visited on a Friday evening. Table booked 2 days prior but not advised live music would be playing on that Friday so meeting up with friends was pointless as unable to talk.
Food was good and edible but no wow factor.
Nice garden so would be nice in warm weather.
B. B.
Really enjoyed our meal! The big chap (lovely man!) made us super welcome, nothing too much trouble. Excellent food and drinks. Only problem, if you can call it that, not entirely sure what the young girls were doing waltzing round in gym and daisy dukes gear, bit out of place! Will look forward to my next meal. Thanks!
G. R.
Beautiful pub that has recently re-opened with new management. We have been there in the past and every time had poor service. But with the new owners things looked like they have been fixed. They have separated off the top level and it's now longer accessible from the bar. Now lovely bar area with friendly staff and great beer. We also went out to the beer garden - it was a lovely place to sit in the sun.
V. R.
Knowing how busy the pub gets I booked 3 weeks prior to the Sunday I wanted to go with friends. When we arrived our table was stuck in the middle of the bar with 3 stools as if for a picnic. When booking a Sunday lunch I expect to have a proper chair to sit on. I asked if there were chairs but was told there were none. All the chairs at other tables were reserved and they were for elderly customers so we could not have any. We did decide to stay as it fitted in with our plans and thankfully the meal was good but not quite the ambience we wanted sitting on stools. When the 'elderly people' arrived they were half our age and some children. How did they know when I booked by phone that I was not elderly and qualified for a proper chair. (I am 65 plus) If they do not have enough chairs they should not take the bookings or warn people they may be sitting on stools so they can chose if they want that option. Sorry I so wanted to enjoy this meal as it is local to me but we were made to feel inferior to other diners.
W. B.
This was our second visit to the George for Sunday roast, and both times the food was lovely and the service great. Kids portions were huge but that was ok as the adults soon polished off the leftovers! Little bit expensive but worth it. Pub itself is very nicely renovated, with a decent garden out the back too
A. M.
Nice garden and draught beers. Sadly seems to have reverted to bar self service - staff seemed confused when we visited. Nice walked garden to the rear so thankfully risks can be minimised

First time here for a long time. What a super new look. Beer garden great. Selling Doombar which is a positive. Super friendly staff. It was Sunday and we didn't want to have the roast. Only ciabatas but they were super. Had to wait quite a while for the food. Otherwise fantastic. Will be going back with our walking crowd.
M. L.
Lovely pub, great atmosphere, nice selection of beer. Want to try to eat Sunday lunch there but fully booed (thats a good sign!). I will try again next week. Definitely a good place for a drink in a sociable atmosphere though. No need to go to Clifton for a good evening any more, Clifton likely to come to Abbots Leigh now The George is open!
J. D.
Four adults, two hungry boys and three dogs all comfortably accommodated. Delicious food, warm, efficient and friendly service. We will definitely be making a return family visit after a walk in Leigh Woods.
J. H.
Excellent Sunday lunch. Looking forward to visiting again 😊
J. S.
Beautiful pub, lovely staff. Nice big beer garden. Couldn't ask for more.
S. F.
We were here for a private party on Friday night and cannot fault the efficiency and friendliness of the staff and management. Food was excellent. Thanks to everyone involved for making it such a great evening. Looking forward to visiting again
M. H.
Very modernised since last visit.
Good "different" food, and a coffee shop attached.

Really great , been here twice since the reopening and both times it's been great . Great pub to go to after a nice walk in leigh woods , dogs are welcome too. very busy first time but the food was fantastic. Second time much quieter bit more cosy and the food was equally as good , looking forward to returning .
D. H.
This place always seems to be changing hands, not sure whether that is a sign to be cautious or glad. This time I was very glad. The food I had - BLT panini - was as good a panini I've had in a long time. The decoration of the pub is very tasteful and there is ample room upstairs for a private function.
T. C.
Lovely food and decor, higher end prices but well worth it my steak was delicious and they were very accommodating in swapping side orders. Would definitely recommend
S. C.
Went to a party in The George and have to say the staff were all so lovely. Great bar and function room with an excellent selection of gin! We had a great time and will certainly visit again. Thank you.
S. C.
Lovely pub, great garden. Quite pricey, but pizza was fantastic x
C. R.

c. j.
had a great afternoon at the george last Saturday after the rugby, was a bit full on and had to wait for food but was made up for by the young lady that seemed to be directing things, extremely organised and made it worth the wait, shame about the rugby result
s. E.

b. t.
Friendly staff, good food
M. S.
Nice bar with enclosed beer garden so peaceful even though close to road. Food looked great but menu is pizza and burger orientated
B. w.
Lovely food good service...only issue was children running and shouting upstairs ...made quiet conversation more difficult! Would definitely give it another try though
L. W.
Went for Sunday lunch today, food was amazing, portion size was brilliant and the atmosphere in the pub was really warm and cosy with the snow outside. Thank you.
V. M.

Much changed since my time spent there in the seventies. Pleasant modern decor, excellent food and drinks served by pleasant young staff.

Nice fresh modern feel with friendly staff. Felt menu needed more thought as prices where a little high for what was on offer
