Very cool place. I didn't even know it existed! The drinks menu is different to anything else I've ever seen. It has a very chilled atmosphere, relaxing music and the service was top notch. I had the Smoking Barrels and it was stunning, I've never tasted anything like it. 100% going to visit The Milk Thistle again!

They also host a variety of event based nights that are worth checking out. Friendly bar tenders and reasonably priced and good value for money. Definitely worth pre-booking as it's popular and can gets busy/full.

Amazing place! The staff are very friendly and helpful! The decor and ambience is very nice. The interieur is quite dark but there are candles on all tables which sets a nice mood. You have to ring the doorbell to get in and I would definitely recommend making a reservation, it seemed to be quite booked! The drinks were great!

Behind a unobtrusive doorway is one of the nicest buildings in Bristol containing some of the nicest cocktails! Friendly staff and great drinks means this place is definitely worth a visit if you’re into cocktails. Most are under £10 each when we visited.

Really nice experience in the one of the top 50 cocktail bars in the UK. Very professional and excellent service from the staff. Cocktails were great and really we enjoyed. The bar was dark themed though we like it. It opens till 1 am on weekdays and till 3am on fridays and saturdays. Sundays closed.

What a wonderful little sleep-easy. Not exactly exploding out onto the road, but all the better for it. Decor inside is just right (the inlaid chess table we sat at was stunning!) Drinks menu was quirky and the concoctions even more so. Staff were helpful and knowledgeable. The two cocktails that I had were really good. One of theirs and a "standard" cocktail, both were a delight. If you want something special, definitely worth a look.

Never knew this place existed until my friends buzzed on a nondescript door in the centre of Bristol. We didn't have a booking but the maître d was able to find us a cosy space in the corner of this clandestine hang out. We had a couple short drinks which were served by the knowledgeable bar staff. Speakeasy vibe and atmosphere in this prohibition era bar. The drinks are fantastically crafted with inventive names and ingredients. We hired out the vault which is a really superb ambient room with a private bar and barman for a stag do party. We used the room to play boardgames etc and have some amazing cocktails. The cocktails were around £10 a head which was very reasonable and we ordered several platters of meat and cheese. The portion size on these too was fantastic with more than enough to keep us going thoughout the night. The drinks were fantastic - with proper cocktail options to cater for our Vegan and for our tee total members who both hsd the same cocktaiks ee had but vegan where necessary, or alcohol free rather than the usual mix of juices in a glass. The absolute standout however was Mike, our barman for the night. If you book the vault - request him. He was always on hand whenever we needed a drink but never felt invasive, and has an absolute enyclopedic knowledge of the drinks. We were very vague about what we wanted all night, and he delivered something we loved every time. We have all discovered new cocktails we like and mike took us through several nice whiskys to try. The point at which one of our party jokingly asked "have you got anything finnish" and he slapped a bottle straight on the table really shows he knows his stuff.

Love this place. Difficult to find but they now have a little sign next to the door to make it easier. You have to ring the doorbell to go inside. It is so awesome in here, the staff are incredibly friendly and it has a great atmosphere especially when it gets busier. Only went in for cocktails but they were incredibly tasty, staff seem up for recommending stuff based on what you like and are willing to mix up custom orders. The downside is the price but it's to be expected - didn't begrudge paying a lot as it felt like you were getting what you paid for.

if you have more than a couple people, make a reservation. Otherwise we were able to get in as there were just two of us and space was opening up at the bar. It's a great high end cocktail bar. Wonderful staff, great drinks, cool decor. I had the weirdest drink that was also delicious: it had matcha and egg whites in it. It was unlike any drink I had ever had.

Super friendly staff and great cocktails, the cocktail menu is great its a story going around Bristol with the cocktail names within the story. Walking through the door is liking taking a step back in time. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a different experience on a night out

It was my very first visit to the milk thistle and I was extremely impressed. The cocktails were faultlessly made and very tasty. What was so impressive was the service. The bartenders asked if you wanted a cocktail in a specific way and if you were looking for a particular taste (such as citrus, spice, rum based). The atmosphere and decor was also great. It is quite possibly the best thing i've done in Bristol.

After the theatre of entry you see the core of the building which is a wonderfully dark Gothic wooden staircase up to the cocktail bars. The venue is a little like a traditional London club - leather seating, high ceilings, plenty of dark wood, great for small groups to chat. When last there, I had a great rum/fruit juice cocktail. And my wife's ginger ale was served with the panache you expect from good bartenders - service was great. If like me your sight has slow dark adaptation, take to the stairs carefully.

If you're looking for an underground cocktail bar in Bristol, you can't go wrong with the Milk Thistle. It doesn't have a sign outside the door which is where Google Maps comes in especially handy, and you have to ring the doorbell for entry. Once inside, you'll find three floors of eclectic rooms and a delicious list of both classic and unique cocktails to choose from. If there's something you fancy that's not on the menu, the bar staff are normally more than happy to oblige. It's the perfect stop-off point before ending your evening.

It's a great place for a quiet drink, ideal for dates! but try and book ahead it you can as you're likely have to wait 30-50mins. The Port cocktail I tried last time was amazing and enjoyed the free tasty bar snack nibbles. I like to take friends here when visiting from out of town.

The Milk-Thistle is a pretty unique cocktail bar, clad in wooden panels and hidden behind a door with no sign in a relatively unassuming building. The cocktails are well made and the staff are very knowledgeable. A beautiful place with a lovely atmosphere to enjoy a good cocktail... forget about your pitchers of woo-woo or whatever junk you have been drinking and try some drinks made with real skill.

I have been here a few times and had no problems at all. I've been able to make reservations and also just pop in on a whim. Yes, you may need to wait at the door for a little bit but it's not the only bar to have this system. I have waited outside Hyde & Co. for a lot longer and that was with a reservation. I'm not sure what Samantha Jacobs has been taking; is there anything wrong with a good looking man in a tight shirt? The drinks are fantastic. She must be the kind of girl who thinks margaritas are supposed to be blended. Do not come here if you want a Woo Woo. Come here if you want a real drink. There's a good mix of genders on both sides of the bar but THANKFULLY it's not a suitable place for a hen night.

Unique experience from the moment you find the right door to get in. You are paying for quality, not quantity. The mixologist know their craft so the best way to enjoy this place is ask them to surprise you if you are not much of a cocktail drinker. This place really transport you to a different era.

I read the google reviews before we went here, but the must have been written by friends because went here last week and it was terrible. The place was dead, but we ordered a drink anyway. There was a bartender wandering around taking swigs out of a bottle while the other made our drinks. Not surprisingly, the drinks were terrible, and we left. Real shame as the building was lovely. Never a good sign when the bartenders are far more drunk than the customer.

I've been to the Milk Thistle at least 15 times, the last time was for the #BristolCityExperts launch party. It's always interesting, friendly and the drinks are always delicious. I may be biased, as this is where I was first introduced to proper cocktails, but I love it. If you're trying to show off Bristol to visiting friends or family, this is the place. I tend to stay away on Friday and Saturday though, as the hen nights and stag dos can be out in force and change/destroy the atmosphere completely.

The Milk Thistle is a building right in the centre but probably one you have walked past completely unaware of its existence. After knocking on the door and being collected (yup, one of those secret type bars) you'll no doubt be impressed by the interior. The building itself used to be a nerve centre for the docks and the nautical theme and wood panelling is continued throughout the building. Cocktails are the name of the game in the Milk Thistle, luckily they make them very well indeed. There are a number of other secret bars popping up in Bristol, but the Mil Thistle is still worth a visit as one of the best.

There are about half-a-dozen really top-end cocktail bars in Bristol, and The Milk Thistle is consistently in the top three. Buzz at the (unmarked) door to gain entry into the deeply panelled ex-headquarters of the Merchant Venturers and begin your journey into an expert land of beautifully crafted cocktails, from on or off the menu. Their Rum conference is something special! One piece of advice: avoid the hyper-busy Thursday-to-Saturday slots if you want to enjoy the ambience and talk to the bar staff about your next drink recommendation!

The Milk Thistle is a unique, speakeasy-style bar. Knock on the door and the staff (in bowties and waistcoats) will welcome you into their mysterious drinking den, bedecked with dark wooden panels, quirky paintings and antique furniture. The cocktails are fabulous and often nod to original recipes or unusual combinations. If you can, be sure to explore the vault in the cellar - the perfect spot for secretive soirees!

As you approach this unassuming building and knock on the door still unsure if you have the right place, the door opens and you're greeted by the smartly dressed doorman and welcomed in to building. Although quite dark your eyes are drawn to the random items hanging on the wall. A quirky bar that is a welcome break from the norm perfect after an evening meal to finish the night away from the usual riff raff! Not the 1st place on my list on a night out but would definitely come back.

Was a bit dubious about the entrance, but once inside was fine. Knowledgeable bartender, they can make any cocktail you like and then some Dimming the already low lights as the sun goes down leaves you fumbling about in the dark, try turning them up when it gets dark??

Great cocktail spot in Bristol. As the Google intro states, it doesn't shout about what it is at the front entrance. You need to know you want to visit the Milk Thistle to end up here. At £11 for a cocktail, it isn't cheap, but to their credit they don't just serve your standard cocktails (though you can get a standard old fashioned if that's your tipple) I had a lovely cocktail with earl grey lillet, and it was excellent. Full of earl grey flavour with notes of citrus. The atmosphere is excellent, I felt like I was in an old Bristol estate / manner house's smoking room or parlour. The art on the walls combined with the stories in the menu (take time to give them a read) make this place feel truly unique. Highly recommended.
